Describe the Basis of Feminist Criminology
The Basis Of Feminist Criminology Feminist criminology was created out of the realization that
criminology from its beginnings focused on the male criminal and the unlawful acts they
committed. When in the fact it could be argued female crime was studied as far back as 1800 s,
female criminal activity, its causes and the effects in which it placed on public opinion were often
disregarded. Over the past 20 years, there has been a significantly different approach in how females
are being dealt with inside the criminal justice system. This has been the result of a more
broadening law enforcement effort, stringent medication sentencing laws, and post conviction
limits to reentry that would greatly influence females. While there seems to... Show more content on

The response to the way women are dealt with, radical scholars agree that women turn to substance
abuse and criminal activity. Marxist women s activist conjecture bridges patriarchy into the
elements of free enterprise when female offenders are sentenced for property or sexual criminal
activity. Socialist feminism strives to create equal roles for women as, child bearers, servants, and
homemakers, so they can assume their licit place in society. Socialist feminism is a two part
theory on the basis that it increases the scope of Marxist s theories and the radical women s activist
theory .The extent of perception in women s activist criminology focuses on merging both society
and private sectors of a woman s livelihood and an end to the financial and the social continual
pattern of a woman s abuse.
2. Do you believe that this philosophy explains the cause of criminal behavior in women? I believe
that this train of thought addresses the cause of criminal behavior in women because many
viewpoints that fall under the umbrella of feminism are given as different causes of criminal
conduct in women .Feminist criminology lacks evidence of a woman s crime. Women s activist
theories not only strive to elucidate criminal wrong doing, exploitation and additionally join
together theory with practice to create more impartial answers for the crime at hand.

Cdc Risk Factors
Most risk factors associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are
interconnected. For example, an obese person is more likely to have other conditions such as
high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
CDC (2015) reports that some risk factors are modifiable such as smoking, and diet, while others
are non modifiable such as age and family history. Approximately 47% of all Americans have at
least one of the three major risk factors for CVD; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and
smoking (CDC, 2015).
Diet intake is one of the risk factor that can be modified. High cholesterol which refers to low

The Geography Of Madagascar
Madagascar is a huge tropical island off the southeast coast of Africa. In the 1500 s, the first
person to have found Madagascar was the Portuguese explorer Diogo Dias. It is the fourth largest
island in the world and is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The island was formed when it broke
away from Africa about fifty million years ago. Madagascaris known for its unique landscapes. It
covers 226,700 square miles. A steep cliff on the eastern coast is home to the country s remaining
tropical rain forests. The central part of the island is a plateau region. Most of the country s major

The country s coastline is covered with national reserves designed to preserve the unique plants
and animals that draw visitors from all over the world. The Madagascar Spiny Thicket is an
unusual region in the south of the country. It is a cross between a forest and a desert. Most of
the plants in this region are found only in Madagascar. Some trees grow tall with long, sharp
spines and no branches, these are octopus trees. The famous Baobab tree has a fat trunk and
stubby branches. This helps them to store lots of water along with their leaves that help store
water as well. All of these characteristics help the plant survive for long periods without rain. A
Baobab tree can create its own ecosystem and support the life of many different other creatures. It
can support mammals all the way to thousands of tiny creatures crawling on its branches. Most
birds make a nest in its wide branches, baboons come to eat the fruit. Also bush babies and fruit
bats like drink the nectar and they also help pollinate the flowers on the tree. Elephants have been

The Grove House
It all started with a land grant in 1694 by a gentleman named Robert Fenwick. After being
through roughly about nine families, George Washington Morris purchased a plantation in
Adams Run, South Carolina containing approximately 842 acres in 1825, which happened to
be across the river from his parents plantation. G. W. Morris s parents, Ann Barnett Elliott and
Colonel Lewis Morris, owned a large piece of land called Bull s Island along with a plantation
across the river that was called Block Island. G. W. Morris inherited those pieces of land and
renamed the plantations The Grove, he later built what is known as The Grove House in 1828.

ran power lines throughout the land leading to the house, giving the house electricity in 1947.
Roughly about two decades later Margaret B. Hendricks bought the plantation that was
containing about 2200 acres with only 400 acres of rice fields and then sold it in 1991 to The
Nature Conservancy. A year later the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service bought the plantation. The
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service made this historical rice plantation a home to the ACE Basin
National Wildlife Refuge. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service soon came to know that the Grove
Plantation was only one of very few mansions to survive the Civil War. Therefore the Grove
Plantation was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The plantation currently shows
the tragedies and happiness that have happened in the past, but is also a home to numerous wildlife

School Uniforms Are Inefficient And Unnecessary Summary
In the article , School Uniforms Are Inefficient and Unnecessary, by the American Civil Liberties
Union (ACLU) OF Nevada, the ACLU of Nevada successfully builds an argument in opposition to
institution of uniforms in school by alluding to historical precedents, appealing to patriotism, and
using ethos to foster a sense of solidarity. The ACLU of Nevada wastes no time in starting its
argument as evident in its historical reference during the introductory paragraph. The ACLU of
Nevada argues that the First Amendment, the right to freedom of speech, is granted to every
American citizen and that, students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse gate,
an opinion from the free speech case during the Vietnam war. Additionally, the ACLU of Nevada
mentions that as a result of the case involving the students expressing their free speech rights during
the Vietnam war the, Court set out a framework for dealing with student s free speech rights in

To make this appeal really affect the reader, ACLU refers to the Constitution, arguably the most
honored American document, and attaches it to the fact that the identity of American is ingrained
in the Constitution, a highly valued standard, and for us to violate it, in the case of a legal minor is
not an American thing to do and may in itself an un American value in our youth. Through this
emotional argument the ACLU of Nevada conveys to its audience that the installment of uniforms
in our educational institutions id not only wrong, but that it goes against the American identity. As
a result when the reader reads this portion, they will not only be against uniforms because they
violate the law, but they will also feel a sense of guilt that arises from the fact they are inferring the
American identity , a would that runs deep and still hurt a lot of

This focuses on selling a product or service to a current market. However a strategic market
embraces the potential market for the product or service. (Kotler and Keller; 2009: 86). An
organization that markets directly to their end users to sell their products and services are

According to the corporate report on Cell C 2008; as a means of improving its infrastructure and

Short Summary Of Araby
James Joyce tells a story of a young boy around the age of eleven, who lives with his uncle and
aunt in an uninhabited house at the end of a blind corner. He likes to play with his friends till
late night. Araby also known as the bazaar was the place he wishes to visit. This story is mainly
based on the type of place where they live, his fondness toward his friend s sister, and the
Araby(bazaar) where he wanted to go. According to the story the place they live sounds awful
because as he mentioned The former tenant of our house, a priest, had died in the back drawing
room (Joyce 86). This place doesn t sounds adequate enough for a child to live in because it can
cause unnecessary fear for the child. Also he was playing in the contaminating place till late
night in freezing cold, which can be proven harmful for a child s physical health. Once his aunt
send him to market to pick up some of the parcels, on his way he saw drunken men, druggies, and
some bad people were cursing on each other. Those were the worst things for a child to see, and
a child was not supposed to send to those kind of market as well. Living in this type of
environment is dangerous for the child s future because a child learn faster by observing an
adult . His uncle and aunt were careless about him. They never paid attention to the things he
had been doing during their absence. On the other hand, they should have used all the bad things
to give him an example that, if he started doing those things he will never able to be a successful
man. He will be stuck there as those people were, and never will able to see a good lifestyle. But
his uncle and aunt had never bother themselves to teach him anything. As he likes to play with
Mangan everyday. Most of the time Mangan s sister come out to call him for tea, and he (Joyce
as a child) likes to watch his sister, every time she come out of her house. A little by little he
started liking her, but he was scared to talk to her. Except some casual talks. He was in love with
her because everyday he uses different techniques to take a glance at her. Once he murmured: O
love! O love! many times for her. He promised her that he will bring something for her whenever he
goes to Araby. For a eleven year

What forms the basis of such vast and complex system of governance? One needs not to be an
Einstein to guess the answer. It is fundamental right to vote or simply voting in elections. Indian
constitution provide every adult above the age of 18 years irrespective of his/her religion,
region, caste, creed, color, economic status, education and sex the essential right to vote and
elect her/his candidate to represent her/him. Hence voting can be termed as backbone of not just
democracy in India but all around the world. Voting can be done in various ways. In early Roman
Empire voting used to be done by raising hands in favor or against. In board rooms voting is done
in similar way, some write their vote down, some choose to speak, some choose to cast vote using
latest technology.
Voting Techniques In India all earlier elections be it state elections or centre elections a voter used
to cast his/her vote to his/her favorite candidate by putting the stamp against his/her name and then
folding the ballot paper as per a prescribed method before putting it in the Ballot box. This is a
long, time consuming process and very much prone to errors. This method wanted voters to be
skilled voters to know how to put a stamp, and methodical folding of ballot paper. Millions of
paper would be printed and heavy ballot boxes would be loaded and unloaded to and from ballot
office to polling station. All this continued till election scene was completely changed by electronic
voting

how much effort and time it takes to get here? Immigrants play a major role in the U.S. They
come here for various reasons as far as starting an enterprising business, an ideal marriage, or
pursue their education career. They come across challenges when they come here. In class, we ve
read the books, My Favorite Chaperone by the author Jean Davies Okimoto, Bonne AnnГ©e by

KreyГІl, the language of my birthplace, is a mystery. this example shows that he wants to inform

Overall all of these stories conclude that language is a big challenge immigrants face because
they have to deal with a form of communication. In the U.S immigrants struggle with adapting to
English. Another important topic immigrants struggle with is adapting to through culture. Maya
in (MFC) struggles with this because when she wants to fit in like an American such as, hanging

the text says, They don t know about things here, only their own ways. They are like

great American sea. This quote emphasizes that Maya wants to engage the reader to know that

Why Is John Paul Successful

John Paul s maritime career began when he was my age. He served as an apprentice on the

The logos of the article is fundamentally flawed due to the lack of logically sound and accurate

Labyrinth In Theseus
Confrontation With The Unconscious in Theseus
The journey to self awareness is one of great challenge that many, unfortunately never persevere
to seeing the end of. Theseus is a story originating from Greek oral tradition. First recorded by
Homer is 600 BCE, is about consciousness and how one s perception of reality and of himself can
be grown and changed. In Theseus, the hero, Theseus, leaves his home of Southern Greece, killing
thieves that lay in the path to Athens. Upon arriving, he vows to kill the minotaur of Crete, wherein
he would have to walk a trying labyrinth before he could reach the minotaur.
The labyrinth, as a metaphor, is most commonly interpreted as the mind and for life itself. Walking
a labyrinth is about the journey, not the destination. It weaves its walls in a complicated yet linear
course. It is about discovering a path that already exists, but possibly one that had otherwise not
been considered. Where the labyrinth is the mind, for Theseus, walking it is a journey of
psychotherapy. When he enters the labyrinth, he enters with the intent for violence, but in having
such a long stretch between then and reaching his goal, he is given time to reflect on his own
actions and morals. Upon entering the leaving he realizes the inhumanity of eye for an eye justice.

makes it s humorful to its audience. Many of the characters in The Simpsons resemble the ones
in Lord of the Flies, which makes the two Lord of the Flies , very easy to compare and contrast.
Lord of the Flies and The Simpsons both compare and contrast Bart and Ralph, how they keep
everyone in control, and also how they become savages.
Every story has a protagonist, these characters are the ones the lead and keep everyone in control.
They give the other little characters someone to follow and guide them through whatever journey
they are going through. These two characters are Bart Simpson and Ralph from Lord of the Flies.
Bart and Ralph are very alike in both of these stories. When the kids get to the island one of the
first things that both of the boys grab is the conch. This immediately represents leadership and
communication. Both boys use the conch to get everyone s attention and to call meetings.
Instantly Ralph and Bart are looked at as the leader of their groups. Another comparison between
them is towards the end of their times spent at the island there are people who rebel and want to
kill the two great leaders. Both Bart and Ralph start off as the people to follow and quickly
become the kids to kill because of the few mistakes they made as leaders. The Simpsons episode
is considered comical to it s viewers. It is not supposed to be a serious tone like Lord of the
Flies. This is why the groups of kids both have different ways of handling things and keeping
things in order. In the episode Das Bus , Nelson portrays Jack, Lisa portrays Simon, the two twins
portray Sam and Eric, and Milhouse portrays Piggy. When Milhouse is charged for getting them
stuck on this island, it is proposed that they have a court session to

Themes In Scott Westerfeld s Uglies And The Third And...
Imagine if an individual conquering his/her largest challenge presents one with an incredible
reward. Surprisingly, this idea is shared between three uncommon literature works. Within Scott
Westerfeld s Uglies, the main character, Tally Youngblood, triumphed through an exhausting and
tough journey to a place that leads her to learn about self worth. Furthermore, The Third and Final
Continent describes the narrator, Jhumpa Lahiri s, adventure of his life through three continents
and poor living conditions during that time resulting in Jhumpa Lahiri finally finding a value in life.
In Rudyard Kiplings poem, If , the audience witnesses if statements that express if someone
conquers the troubles in their life, the world will be theirs. Incredibly, among three unlike
compositions, a common theme, overcoming obstacles and being honored with a sentimental
reward, is conveyed through plot, cause and effect, and characterization. Between Ugliesand The
Third and Final Continent, the moral surpassing struggles and receive an award is displayed
through the literary device, plot. For justification, both storylines included developed characters, an
exposition, a descriptive setting, one or multiple conflicts, necessary rising and falling actions, an
intense climax, and a resolution. As evidence, Tally, from Uglies, defeated her rough trip to her
destination and enjoyed her freedom as she fell into the routines of the Smoke (Westerfeld 218).

How Students Adopt Social Media
Introduction
This study will examine how HPU students adopt social media, and if there are any difference
between an early American adopter versus an early Scandinavian adopter. The literature review
will guide this study by give an understanding of how new innovations in social media are being
adopted by the use of Diffusion of Innovation Theory. The first three sections of the literature
review will provide information of the American and Scandinavian culture, with the focus on the
differences in the use of technology between them. The forth section will provide Social Media and
Facebook, which is essential in understanding this study. In sum, this literature review consists of
the following sections: Culture (the differences in use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definitions explain that culture as human made and that it is learned, it highlights subjective
elements such as values, beliefs and behaviors. However, culture is a term that is difficult to define
and it is difficult to identify all the factors that it encompasses (Davey, 2011). Culture includes
gender, sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status, and cultural background (Peters Williams,
2009). Other terms such as mainstream, minority, ethnicity religion and race are used to describe
how a group of people, a community or a nation lives in their social and physical environment
(Schinke Hanrahan, 2009).
2.2 American Culture and Technology
From a historic viewpoint, the American culture has dominated global culture based on its
technological leadership of Web based and consumer technology (Ashby, 2006). While these
innovations are adopted outside the United States, in America it becomes less and more global.
Cortada (2009) explains that American Web sites, applications and high tech gadgets are dispersed
worldwide, which results that it becomes less US centric, even though they remain influenced by
American culture. By using Facebook in this thesis, one sees that this technology is clearly a part
of American culture, but worldwide adoption causes them to become less American. Nye (1997)
explained, Machines are social constructions which Americans long have

Analysis Of Saturday s Child And The Secret Life Of Children
The poem Saturday s Child and the book The Secret Life of Bees have many things in common.
In Saturday s Child Countee Cullen uses the personification of death and imagery to portray the
loss of innocence, which relates to Lily Owens in The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.
Throughout the poem, the speaker uses the personification of death, which relates to Lily Owens
experience with death early on in her life. In Saturday s Child , Cullen describes Death cut the
strings that gave me life,/ and handed me to Sorrow (Cullen 17,18), which reveals that the author
was stripped of something important to them at a young age. Cullen describes the death of a family
member as Death ВЁcutting the strings that gave him lifeВЁ and saying that ... Show more content

The speaker describes, They swathed my limbs in a sackcloth gown/ on a night that was black
as tar (Cullen 7,8), which then causes the reader to imagine the scene in their mind. Cullen
describes a baby being swathed in a sackcloth gown and this happening when the night was as
black as tar . This imagery causes an image of what they interpret this scene to appear in their
mind, which further immerses the reader into the poem. Cullen has a vivid image of what this
scene looks like to himself, and the reader creating their own image of the same scene brings a
better understanding to what the author was attempting to show. While Lily is asleep in the
honey house, she has a vivid dream of her mother following Lily s trail of honey and when she
comes into view she is part roach. Lily explains, She is smiling, so pretty, but then I see she is
not a normal person. She has roach legs protruding through her clothes, sticking through the cage
of her ribs, down her torso, six of them, three on each side, (Kidd 174). Kidd creates a vivid and
detailed image of a woman with a beautiful smile but with the lower half of her body as a roach
using imagery. Kidd describes Lily s mother as following Lily s trail of honey, smiling, so pretty,
and She has roach legs protruding through her clothes. The imagery generates an image of the

Spotted Tailed Quoll Research Paper
Helena Czekalski May 18th, 2018 3rd The spotted tailed quoll is an Australia native carnivore
that inhabits wet forests and eats mostly species like snakes and lizards. As a carnivore, they use
their teeth to slice meat off their prey, and communicate using series of hissing and screeching
noises. The spotted tailed quoll is brown with white spots on it s torso and tail. Because if it s
short legs, they run slower than most quolls. Males are larger than females but there is almost no
difference in appearance. Spotted tailed quolls have two subspecies, the Dasyurus maculatus

Analysis Of Black Beauty In Anna Sewell s The Georges And...
One of the most courageous decisions youДєl ever make is to finally let go of what is hurting your
heart and soul. This quote said by Brigitte Nicole, holds true for anyone, as any living being will
eventually let go of its pain and find happiness in life.In the excerpt from Black Beauty: An
Autobiography of A Horse by Anna Sewell, a horse is illustrating its change in feelings while
being broken in and wearing unpleasant gear. Distinctive change is also observed in the selection,
The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, where the main character describes her favor in one
horse as opposed to another. By evaluating the excerpts of Black Beauty and Georges and the

At the start of the excerpt, Black Beauty shows that he personally feels hatred toward having to
wear heavy gear such as a bridle. However, at the end, he tells that as he rode with the items on
him more often, his anger had subsided. In the end, this story clearly uses first person point of
view to allow the character to grow from being a stubborn horse to an accepting one. Similarly,
the story Georges and the Jewels uses first person point of view to demonstrate how the main
character changes from favoring a horse to despising another. In paragraph one of the excerpt,
Georges and the Jewels, it states, ...because that horse is just dedicated to bucking you off. So I
did lie there... Near the genesis, Abby is lying on the ground because she is genuinely frustrated
and feels a sense of defeat that the horse she was riding threw her off. Abby is the main character
and she is telling the story in the first person point of view, which allows the text to be
interpreted that her annoyance towards the horse is clear. If the story had been written in another
point of view, the main character s opening feelings towards her father s horses would not have
been shown. In paragraph nine, it states, I rode her every day, and she never put a foot wrong.
Abby is having a flashback where she looks back at the time she had a very sweet horse that she
truly loved. This shows that since she

Ancient Roman Entertainment Essay
Citizens in ancient Rome held their entertainment close. Entertainment was free, and appealed to all
social classes, from slaves to the emperor. Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and
gladiator fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average
Roman citizens.
The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the
most popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the
senators and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of
entertainment appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the
races, there was a large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money
probably attracted even more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many
household items were decorated with symbols from the racing.
The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured
and their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites.
The green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the
other two into their ranks. The factions were not just racing teams, they also had political influence.
Most Roman citizens became racing fanatics, supporting one of the factions. Some citizens even
resorted to magic to foul their opponents, showed

Comparing Eva s Story, Paperclips, And The Sneetches
During the Holocaust, obstacles in many categories were a commonality shared by many
people. The Holocaust is a horrid example of evil in humans. It was one of the most important
events in World War II and killed over 11 million people, including Jews, Jehovah s Witnesses,
Roma, the disabled, and homosexuals. Obstacles and how they are overcome are everywhere in
Holocaust literature and films, including Eva s Story, The Book Thief, Paperclips, and The
Sneetches. In Eva s Story, Eva and her family attempt to overcome the obstacle of hiding from the
Nazis because they are Jews. Eva and her mother, Mutti, hid together in multiple different houses.
Her father, Pappy, and her brother, Heinz, hid together in separate houses from Eva and Mutti so
they would have a lesser chance of all four of them getting caught. At one point, Nazis searched the
house Eva and her mother were staying in. Eva and Mutti were hiding behind a faux wall in the
bathroom. Eva and her family were caught while transferring houses which led to them being taken
to a Jewish concentration camp. Eva and her family showed courage in trying to hide from the
Nazis, even though they were eventually caught.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of Spirit Family Support Shelter
DISCUSSION A.Does Spirit Family Support Shelter constitute as a dwelling under the Fair
Housing Act (FHA)? The first issue is whether Spirit Family Support Shelter qualifies as a
dwelling under the Fair Housing Act. Under the FHA, a dwelling is any building, structure, or
portion thereof, for purposes of occupancy, as a residence by one or more families, and any
vacant land offered for sale or lease for the construction, or location of any such building,
structure, or portion thereof. Fair Housing Act of 1968, В§ 807(a), 42 U.S.C.A. В§ 3602(b). In
practice, several Third Circuit Courts have demarcated residence to mean a temporary or
permanent dwelling place, abode, or habitation that one intends to return to, as opposed to a place
temporary sojourn or transient visit. Defiore v. City Rescue Mission of New Castle, 995
F.Supp.2d 413, 418 (W.D.Pa 2013) (quoting Webster s Third International Dictionary 1931).
Subsequently, there must be proof that the shelter is intended for occupants planning to stay in the
shelter for a significant period of time, and that the occupants viewed the shelter as a place to
return to during that period. U.S. v. Columbus Country Club, 915 F.2d 877, 881 (3rd Cir. 1990). In

There are also tactical elements when installing or upgrading new weapons and support systems,
especially when dealing with different enemies. For example, there are certain weapons which
can penetrate through shields. Support items have defense and as their name suggests, a
supportive function. For example, some can give an energy boost, while others can help deflect
weapons. Although Sandstorm: Pirate Wars is worth checking out, the game shoves monetization

accomplishment goes down the game as you move further. Some enemies and missions may end

money might help you further enjoy it. Overall, Sandstorm: Pirate Wars is a solid game. With
outstanding graphics, good gameplay elements, and a well made ship upgrading system, it s
guaranteed to keep you playing for hours. The battles are exciting and action packed, while the
missions immerses you into the sandy, post apocalyptic world. Though it is heavy on monetization,

Enemy of the State
An Analysis of Enemy of the State Enemy of the State is a classical tale of good versus evil,

(1984) One thing that stands out about Enemy of the State is its unique use of camera angles to
set mood and tone. A good example of this is in the opening sequence. Vantages of Washington
D.C. exteriors are spliced with shots of high tech monitors and other devices tracking vehicles
from fast orbiting satellites. The camera changes angle quickly and unpredictably here, blending
with this dizzying montage of images to set the frantic, overwhelmed tone of the whole film.
Another example is the unique angles used during scenes depicting Dean having an argument
with his wife and Dean being chased through a tunnel. The crooked angles used to present these
scenes clearly convey the fact that Dean s life is being turned upside down. Some good use of
shadow during indoor scenes helps contribute to the overall paranoid, claustrophobic feel of the
film. Director Tony Scott clearly demonstrates his ability to use cameral angles and lighting to
evoke the feelings central to the theme of the film. Tony Scott has a reputation as a master of the
visually appealing action film. (Tony Scott) He does not fail to live up to that reputation with
Enemy of the State. He keeps up a quick pace throughout, using a multitude of finely
choreographed chase scenes and narrow escapes guaranteed to bring audiences to the edge of their
seats. High levels of speed and intensity are even used in the transitional scenes, giving the
impression that every moment you

Analysis Of A Christmas Story The Movie
A Christmas Story the Musical The movie A Christmas Story has always been a family favorite
and tradition, so when the opportunity came up to go and see it as a theater production, my mom
and I knew that is exactly what we wanted to see. On December 2nd, my mom and I spent the day
together by getting dinner, going shopping, and ending the night with a play. A ChristmasStory the
Musical was produced by the Morgantown TheatreCompany and directed by Hillary Phillips, both
whom did an outstanding job making sure everything was perfect from beginning to end. When I
was in elementary school every year we would go to a play produced by the same company, so
going back as a sophomore in college brought back fun childhood memories, as did seeing my
childhood favorite Christmas movie on stage. I personally believe that this production was directed,
preformed, and thought out extremely well with an overall experience of excitement, laughter, and
the Christmas spirit! The relationship and energy that the audience had towards the performance
made a large impact on my enjoyment of the play. Since A Christmas Story
is such a popular movie,
hundreds of people came out and packed the theatre! The doors to the theatre did not open until a

people were very upbeat and excited; many families had on matching Christmas sweaters, children

The French Occupation Of Spain During The Peninsular War
Francisco Goya was a Spanish painter and printmaker, especially known for his works depicting
and commenting on the horrors of the French Occupation of Spain during the Peninsular War, in
the early 1800 s. The Third of May , an oil on canvas painting created in 1814 by Goya, illustrates
the mass executions of innocent Spanish civilians, in response to the uprising of civilians against
the French military the previous day. Saturn Devouring his son, another oil on canvas masterpiece
by Goya, depicts the mythological, gruesome figure of the god Saturn, who, based upon the fear of
a prophecy, ate each one of his own children.
The Third of May depicts a pitch black sky, looming over crowds of people below, dimly lit by
geometric lanterns nearby. The focus of the scene involves two separate groups the faceless,
practically identical French military, aiming their guns towards the direction of a group of petrified
civilians, making various different positions. Around the civilians are lifeless bodies, coated in
their own blood. As many of the civilians turn away, one figure is prominent in the centre. The man
s arms are outstretched in a seemingly surrendering manner, as he kneels upon the ground, waiting
to be shot. Unlike the other people, whose clothes are a sea of dark blues, greens and browns, the
man wears bright white and yellow clothing, emphasised through the illuminating light of the
lantern which is cast in his direction. If examined closely, the man also appears

Challenges Of Homelessness In The United States Today
Challenges of being Homeless
Homelessness is a very big issue in the United States today. Homeless people are living on dirty

THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX
Abstract
Over many years, the views of premarital sex have been becoming increasingly more tolerant. The
whole reasoning behind why sex was created is lost in the minds of society and used for pleasure
and own physical satisfaction. There are negative consequences for these actions leading to guilt,
depression, and numbness to intimate relationships. Having strong parental influence can also
strongly affect the outcomes of adolescence and causal sex. Additionally, marriagecan be ... Show

Hence, even if there may be a motivation for casual sex because of developing one s script or
fulfilling a man s physical satisfaction and a women s intimacy in a relationship, there are the same
emotional effects and negative outcomes that result from taking part in premarital sex. An action
that was morally right would not have
THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX negative emotional and psychological
consequences, which would conclude casual sex was not intended to be done before marriage.
There is also another consequence for participating in casual sex such as disturbance in later
marriage. Sexual scripts can be written prior to marriage, providing knowledge about their own
abilities, leading to a stable marriage because they may be able to make more informed choices
concerning marriage. It is also very likely for someone to misunderstand physical intimacy with
emotional potential, leading to disruption in marriage and make worse marital choices (Kahn,
London, 1991).
How is Marriage Effected? In today s society, adolescents have a positive opinion about
cohabitation before marriage. The view of marriage as an institution has faded and cohabitation has
taken a new part of this culture (Martin, Specter, Martin, amp; Martin, 2003). It has often been
questioned whether or not premarital sexual activity causes marriages to be disrupted. According to
Teachman, Premarital sex and cohabitation has not

Companies across the United States do business in other countries regularly and for various
reasons. Some organizations move in to international markets to take advantage of other countries
strengths and resources which allows companies to expand and grow their business, revenue, and
international presence. The other reason that U.S. organizations move into international markets is
to take advantage of the human resource talent, innovation, and technologies. For instance, some
U.S. companies have expanded into Asian markets to leverage the technological expertise of local
populations, which not only boosts business and capabilities, but also helps to expand their client
base (Kokemuller, 2016).

The WTO is the only global international organization that deals with trade rules between nations
and their goal is to help companies that produce goods and services and export and import, to
conduct business successfully (World Trade Organization, 2016). Because Indians are strict when
adhering to a policy or procedure and to deal with the vast amounts of bureaucracy the WTO
would be the best organizations to help both companies come to a business agreement. Indians
will often take longer than usual to get the U.S. company a contract, certificate, or document
which can create a bottleneck (Hume, 2012). The bureaucrats holding up the progress expect a
payoff for moving things along faster so having a local player or someone who knows how to
weave in and out of bureaucracy in India may make business dealings easier. Hume (2012),
suggests doing research beforehand to figure out who the right players are and be diligent.
Other cultural nuisances when conducting business in India is their perspective on time.
Indians don t like to be ruled by a calendar or a clock so getting business done in a timely fashion
is hard to accomplish. One of the frustrations with doing business in India is that the politicians
have a great deal of power. If a person in office is in the process of being replaced and a company
had business dealing with the previous person, business dealing will start over at square one with

Vision Screening
It is estimated that one in four children need to wear prescription glasses. A vision screening can
confirm whether your child needs glasses. However, there are a number of signs you may notice
if your child has a vision problem. Below is a list of signs that your child needs glasses:
Squinting Squinting is one of the most common signs of vision problems in children. The reason
children squint when they have vision problems is because it can help bring a blurry object into
focus. Squinting slightly changes the shape of the eyes. Sitting Too Close To The TV It is
common for children to sit too close to the computer or television. However, if your child is

Essay Double Blind Randomized Controlled Trial
Double Blind Randomized Controlled Trial
The controlled and randomized double blind trials refer to a situation in which a medicine
investigator is not familiar with the nature of a drug. The term may also mean that a scientist
does not realize that a drug is being tested maybe for certain diseases. Such medicines may be
under surveillance, and they are only administered in a small prescribed amount in case of any
side effects. For a typical scientific research, the desires, expectations and beliefs can
subconsciously influence, often, how people perceive things. In clinical research and preliminary
psychology, these values are broadly recognized, thus explaining the rationale on why studies from
subjects are regularly carried out under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the initial researches were made to assess mesmerism, and were strictly performed with
blindfolds. The application of blind evaluation had been implemented by the 19th century by
homeopaths, and by early 14th century, was regulated by psychical investigators and
psychologists. However, in the 1930s, the capacity of blind methods merged with no cure control
group in medical tests was broadly acknowledged by a majority of health researchers, and just
subsequent to World War II did blind tests in unsystematic controlled assessment became a typical
and normative procedure.
In medication and psychology, blind testing began as prevention against the unconventional, but its
universal significance has been renowned for orthodox study; it has been internalized. While
examiners in unorthodox medical and their incredulous columnists have been conscious of the
likely impacts of anticipation and credence for over two hundred years, and conventional health
explorers and psychologists for decades, this knowledge ha spread extensively throughout the
scientific society. The beliefs and prospects in other experimenters in other branches of science
seem to be ignored. There appears to be an implicit supposition that scientists in conventional

Family Theme In Nyxia
One theme seed seen throughout the novel Nyxia by Scott Reintgen is family. In the beginning
of the novel Emmett goes with the Bible company due to the fact that if he wins the prize would
be 50 thousand a month for the rest of his life as well as free access and treatment at medical
centers courtesy of Babel. My thinking is that the free access and treatment at medical centers is
the real reason he is there, as it even says so in the beginning of the book. His motherhas breast
cancer and kidney disease so winning could very well save her life.
The first basic theme of family I found in this novel was family can cause people to do things they
never would have considered before. (Emmett went to space on a trip out of our own solar
system for the chance to help his Mom survive) Some evidence to support this claim would be
found on page 18. This is where Emmet goes on a journey out of the solar system to try and get
money for his mother who has cancer. My thinking on this is that Emmett s family is poor, and
bable can control him through his desire to win and get his mother medical care. This leads me to
think about a possible theme that would be connected to the larger idea of family, control and
using one s family to control them. Emmett s family seems very supportive of him even though he
has had a rocky past and the family has fallen upon hard times and his father leaves him with the
message, bend the rules, break them if you must, Just be true to who you are. That

Identifying The Identification Of Bacteria
Abstract
The identification of bacteria is a crucial procedure in the field of biology. Identification can be
done through a series of tests run on different forms of media that detect the physical and
biochemical properties of the cells. In this experiment, a sample containing two unknown species of
bacteria was run through fourteen tests to determine morphology, fermentation properties, reducing
and oxidative properties, and other various characteristics of each isolated unknown. It was
concluded that the sample contained Lactococcus lactis and Shigella flexneri.
Introduction It is fascinating to look around and see how much diversity exists on earth. Perhaps
even more interesting is the diversity that exists far beyond the naked eye. Over the past several
decades, it has been determined that microorganisms account for the majority of the biomass on
earth and new discoveries about these organisms are constantly being made (4). Bacteria make up
a very large domain of the prokaryotes, or single celled organisms. Bacteria have an enormous
range of properties. Some can be infectious and lead to maladies and fatalities; others can benefit us
by contributing to medications, foods, and even maintaining natural body functions like those in
the digestive tract. Bacteria are virtually everywhere. It is for these reasons that it is vital we learn
as much as possible about the once unseen organisms. Studying their physical and biochemical
features can help us understand how to

The Fluidity of the American Civil War
The American Civil War, widely known in the United States as simply the Civil War as well as
other sectional names, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine the survival of the
Union or independence for the Confederacy. Among the 34 states in January 1861, seven Southern
slave states individually declared their secession from the United States and formed the Confederate
States of America. The Confederacy, often simply called the South, grew to include eleven states,
and although they claimed thirteen states and additional western territories, the Confederacy was
never diplomatically recognized by a foreign country. The states that remained loyal and did not
declare secession were known as the Union or the North. The war had... Show more content on

Slavery was the central source of escalating political tension in the 1850s. The Republican Party
was determined to prevent any spread of slavery, and many Southern leaders had threatened
secession if the Republican candidate, Lincoln, won the 1860 election. After Lincoln had won
without carrying a single Southern state, many Southern whites felt that disunion had become their
only option, because they thought that they were losing representation, which would hamper their
ability to promote pro slavery acts and policies.
Root causes
Slavery. Contemporary actors, the Union and Confederate leadership and fighting soldiers on both
sides believed that slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly believed the war was to
emancipate the slaves. Confederates fought to protect southern society, and slavery as an integral
part of it. From the anti slavery perspective, the issue was primarily about whether the system of
slavery was an anachronistic evil that was incompatible with Republicanism in the United States.
The strategy of the anti slavery forces was containment to stop the expansion and thus put slavery
on a path to gradual extinction. The slave holding interests in the South denounced this strategy as
infringing upon their Constitutional rights. Southern whites believed that the emancipation of
slaves would destroy the South s economy because of the alleged laziness of blacks under free labor.
Slavery was illegal in the

Who Is Creon A Tragic Hero
Tragic Heroism in Antigone In Greek Literature, there are three types of genres in stories. Those
genres would be classified as Romantic, Comedy or Drama. In class, we read Antigone, which
would be classified as a Drama because at the end she dies tragically due to her fate. Otherwise
known as a tragic hero. One real life example of one would be Martin Luther King Jr, his point of
existence to be a strong leader during the Civil Rights Era (1954 1968). Growing in power
through speeches, he beat the system and got what he aimed for, but sadly died because of James
Earl Ray. In Antigone, Sophoclesshows that Creon is a tragic herothrough the use of Indirect
Characterization, Foil and Hamartia.
Lines 185 through 240 (Page 326 327), Creon becomes King and says his acceptance speech.
Describing what he will be doing or changing in office in a very pridely manner. A good leader
will need that charistic in order to become successful. In his speech he tells everyone his goals,
telling them what he wants done. Using indirect characterization, a reader can easily conclude
that King Creon is a good leader and will bring prosperity in the future and that he is very proud of
his stance of his class. Sadly, his pride is one of his downfalls, dragging him down. ... Show more

personality can be described as selfish, caring only about his pride. He is also described as being

to his fiance, but King Creon does not listen, he even deeply regrets having his son and is
extremely disappointed. Antigone s personality is the complete opposite, being brave, determined,

Cultural Consideration Paper
Cultural Consideration Western generational models can not be applied broadly to a global
workforce. (Erickson, 2011, p. 1) The events that shaped the generations in the United States did
not necessarily happen around the world. Other countries and cultures have had their own
monolithic events to shape their beliefs and character. While events such as World War II did
happen globally, not every country was involve in that war and did not have the same experience
as say people in the United Kingdom and United States might have had. The potential exception to
this rule is the proposed Generation Y and Millennials who have globally had access to the same
information due to increasing availability of technology. In a recent email report... Show more

As new employees come in to an organization there should be a uniform way to impart
information to help the individual assimilate to the corporate culture as quickly as possible. In
an effort to gain consistency this usually means that people come in and get a crash course on
systems and logistics. Traditionalist may prefer a mentor with similar ideals. Baby Boomers
may want a structured training session. Generation Xers may prefer an online training class and
Millennials might prefer something in a group setting so they can start building relationships.
So how does a corporation efficiently and effectively offer all of these options? They usually can
not separately, but components of each can be integrated into an onboarding and development
plan so that all people are receiving the key information in a way that they best assimilate such
information. Situational Leadership Situational Leadership was a model originally developed
by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard to effectively assess what each person needs from leadership
on each task. (Hersey, 2004) Dr. Hersey and Blanchard parted ways and put their own spin on
the same model but it still stands that it works and can be applied to any person of any age with
any task. The key is that the leader has to be perceptive and fluid in leadership styles. One of the

The Hobbit Character Analysis
The Hobbit is a fantasy novel, by J.R.R. Tolkien that tells the story of an unexpected story. Rather
than being about a main character who is brave and noble, this story is about Bilbo Baggins, a
predictable, mild mannered hobbit. He lives in his cozy home and avoids anything out of the
ordinary until he is presented with the opportunity of an adventure with Gandalf the wizard along
with 13 dwarves. The goal is to take back the homeland of the dwarves from the dragon, Smaug,
who has attacked and taken over. The journey entails mountains, forests, and creatures such as
trolls, goblins, elves, and more. And even though no one sees much potential in the seemingly weak
hobbit, Gandalf sees traits of a hero within Bilbo. This journey results in... Show more content on

At this point in the novel, the narrator describes, On they went, Gollum flip flapping ahead,
hissing and cursing; Bilbo behind going as softly as a hobbit can (85). Once Gollum gets angry,
Bilbo slips on the ring and becomes aware of its power invisibility. He takes advantage of this
and follows Gollum until navigates his way back to the dwarves. This demonstrates Bilbo s
cleverness because it shows his ability to quickly read a situation. He has to think on his feet
and independently if he is to return to the others. Bilbo has never been put in a situation where
he has to quickly think on his own quite like this, so clearly, he has exhibited cleverness which
has commenced his transformation. Through his experience in Mirkwood, Bilbo exhibits
selflessness, which continues his transformation. In this episode, Bilbo and the dwarves enter
the dark forest of Mirkwood and encounter giant spiders they have to fight off. The spiders entrap
the dwarves in their silk, leaving Bilbo (with the ring) to find a way to save everyone. Bilbo
shows his selflessness at this point when the novel says, Bilbo saw that the moment had come
when he must do something. (159) and then later continues to say, In this way, [Bilbo and Fili,
who he had just rescued] rescued Kili, Bifur, Bofur, Dori, and Nori (162). This shows Bilbo s
selflessness because he s so determined to rescue the other dwarves and he once again has to think

Yorktown Battle Analysis
General Washington now had a combined force of over 16,000 American and French Soldiers
ready to begin a siege of Cornwallis and his British force of only 7,500 Soldiers. The French
Navy had decisively defeated the British Navy. There was no chance of escape for the British, both
land and sea routes were blocked. On September 29, 1781, the Battle of Yorktown began. As
Washington moved his Army closer to the British, the British would engage them from their
defensive positions. Over the next 6 days, the French and Americans would establish their trenches
needed to begin the siege. The French and America Armies moved Artillery pieces into position to
engage the British.

Ready confirms, On October 14, Washington ordered an attack on two British redoubts separated
from the town s main defense (Middleton, 2012, pg.387). These two redoubts were the last outer
defensive positions of the British Army. The redoubts must be captured, and by the capture, they
would all but force the surrender of the British Army, as they would now be in an indefensible
position. The Americans would attack redoubt 10. Seventy British Soldiers held it. The French
would attack redoubt 9. One hundred twenty British and German Soldiers held it. At 1830,
Washington employed a scene of deception. He has ordered troops movement which would appear
as if an assault on Yorktown it was about to occur. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hamilton
(Commanded attack on redoubt 10) told his men not to load their guns. Using only the bayonets at
the end of their muskets, Hamilton and his men captured redoubt 10 (Middleton, 2012, pg.385).
The French simultaneously assaulted redoubt number 9, and successfully captured the defensive
positions. Washington now had the ability to bombard the town of Yorktown from three directions
with very little the British could do to stop it. Ready status that the Americans and French could fire
their cannons into almost any part of the city (Kaufman ,2005, p.

Motifs And Motifs In Macbeth
In literature, one might notice certain images, objects, or ideas recurring throughout the piece.
These are called motifs, and unsurprisingly, many motifs are present in the works of William
Shakespeare. There are many themes that Shakespeare conveys through motif in his play
Macbeth. One of these is that breaking the Great Chain of Being results in misery and disorder,
but the natural order tends to eventually recover. Another is that violence is morally ambiguous
and can be good or evil depending only on who the violence affects. Finally, Shakespeare shows
that what one perceives as reality is not necessarily reality, especially under the effects of guilt and
or paranoia. From reading Macbeth, one can easily pick up on these messages:... Show more content

However, towards the end of the play, the natural order begins to return to normal. Hearing that
Birnam wood was coming to Dunsinane Macbeth remarks I pull in resolution and begin
To doubt th equivocation of the fiend
That lies like truth. Fear not, till Birnam wood
Do come to Dunsinane ; and now a wood
Comes toward Dunsinane. Arm, arm, and out!
If this which he avouches does appear,
There is nor flying hence nor tarrying here.
I gin to be aweary of the sun,
And wish th estate o th world were now undone.
Ring the alarum bell! Blow, wind! Come, wrack!
At least we ll die with harness on our back (V.v.47 58).
This quote draws parallels between Macbeth and a horse, first with the metaphor of him pulling in
resolution. Through this metaphor, Macbeth suggests a fear that allowing the horse of his
confidence to be free was a mistake. He mentions later that at least [he ll] die with harness on [his]
back (V.v.58), which shows that Macbeth is returning to the battlefield where the natural order says
he should be. Rather than rule, Macbeth s nature is to obey commands, as both a soldier and a
horse does. Shakespeare emphasizes the unnatural nature of Macbeth s rule once again over here, as
Birnam Wood moving to Dunsinane is an event that does not occur naturally. Shakespeare
demonstrates through his use of these two nature motifs to enhance the idea that a disturbance to
the natural order causes great

Review Of An Article Related To A Study On APA
1.Cite an article relating to your study using APA format. How does the techniques used in this
article relate to the techniques used in your group project? Was the metabolic cart they used in the

compared to your study? (~2 paragraphs)
The article that I found that correlates to my group project, assesses and measures the VO2 by
looking at 7 indirect tests for aerobic power. This article also used the Bruce treadmill test (Bruce

The Journal of Strength Conditioning Research, 13(4), 346 352.
2.If you had the ability to change your group project, how would you alter it and why? (1 paragraph)
I would alter the project by using the formula of VO2max=15x(HRmax/HRrest), and have each
participant perform a VO2Max test, by using the metabolic cart. I would then compare the results
from the metabolic cart and the VO2 equation, and them compare the results for comparison. I
would make this change, because our group had to alter the formula of VO2max=15x(HRmax
/HRrest), in order to perform a submaximal test. What we did was calculated the max heart rate,
and multiplied that value by 85% of VO2 which would be considered a submaximal test.
I would have liked to have seen the comparison to the equation and the metabolic cart, to see if
there was an increase or decrease in the values of each of the measurements of maximal oxygen
consumption. This would be interesting to analyze, because the population will not always have a
metabolic cart around to measure VO2. If the equation showed similar values to the metabolic cart,
the equation would be a good tool to use for estimation if the metabolic cart was not available.
3.For your project, were the test procedures provided in the Metabolic Cart/VO2 Testing lecture
followed? Which steps were followed and which were not? If steps were not followed, why? (2

One needs not to be an Einstein to guess the answer. It is fundamental right to vote or simply voting in elections. Indian constitution provide every adult above the age of 18 years irrespective of his/her religion, region, caste, creed, color, economic status, education and sex the essential right to vote and elect her/his candidate to represent her/him. Hence voting can be termed as backbone of not just democracy in India but all around the world. Voting can be done in various ways. In early Roman Empire voting used to be done by raising hands in favor or against. In board rooms voting is done in similar way, some write their vote down, some choose to speak, some choose to cast vote using latest technology. Voting Techniques In India all earlier elections be it state elections or centre elections a voter used to cast his/her vote to his/her favorite candidate by putting the stamp against his/her name and then folding the ballot paper as per a prescribed method before putting it in the Ballot box. This is a long, time consuming process and very much prone to errors. This method wanted voters to be skilled voters to know how to put a stamp, and methodical folding of ballot paper. Millions of paper would be printed and heavy ballot boxes would be loaded and unloaded to and from ballot office to polling station. Another important topic immigrants struggle with is adapting to through culture. Maya in (MFC) struggles with this because when she wants to fit in like an American such as, hanging with boys, not having many responsibilities, and doing many activities she gets in trouble. Theseus is a story originating from Greek oral tradition. First recorded by Homer is 600 BCE, is about consciousness and how one s perception of reality and of himself can be grown and changed. In Theseus, the hero, Theseus, leaves his home of Southern Greece, killing thieves that lay in the path to Athens. Upon arriving, he vows to kill the minotaur of Crete, wherein he would have to walk a trying labyrinth before he could reach the minotaur. The labyrinth, as a metaphor, is most commonly interpreted as the mind and for life itself. Walking a labyrinth is about the journey, not the destination. It weaves its walls in a complicated yet linear course. It is about discovering a path that already exists, but possibly one that had otherwise not been considered. Where the labyrinth is the mind, for Theseus, walking it is a journey of psychotherapy. When he enters the labyrinth, he enters with the intent for violence, but in having such a long stretch between then and reaching his goal, he is given time to reflect on his own actions and morals. Upon entering the leaving he realizes the inhumanity of eye for an eye justice. Theseus entering the center of the labyrinth is not only a shift in the path, ... Flies And Lord Of The Flies Analysis Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, and The Simpsons Das Bus episode, the parody of the novel, both showcase the fierce battle between nature and the children. The reader discloses who leads and who breaks through the harsh environment alive. These stories can compare in numerous ways, but also differ in many ways so that The Simpsonsfans find it comical. Lord of the Flies has a much more serious tone, while The Simpsons episode tries to add a bit of a twist that makes it s humorful to its audience. Many of the characters in The Simpsons resemble the ones in Lord of the Flies, which makes the two Lord of the Flies , very easy to compare and contrast. Lord of the Flies and The Simpsons both compare and contrast Bart and Ralph, how they keep everyone in control, and also how they become savages. Every story has a protagonist, these characters are the ones the lead and keep everyone in control. They give the other little characters someone to follow and guide them through whatever journey they are going through. These two characters are Bart Simpson and Ralph from Lord of the Flies. Bart and Ralph are very alike in both of these stories. When the kids get to the island one of the first things that both of the boys grab is the conch. This immediately represents leadership and communication. Both boys use the conch to get everyone s attention and to call meetings. Instantly Ralph and Bart are looked at as the leader of their groups. Another comparison between them is towards the end of their times spent at the island there are people who rebel and want to kill the two great leaders. Both Bart and Ralph start off as the people to follow and quickly become the kids to kill because of the few mistakes they made as leaders. The Simpsons episode is considered comical to it s viewers. It is not supposed to be a serious tone like Lord of the Flies. This is why the groups of kids both have different ways of handling things and keeping things in order. In the episode Das Bus , Nelson portrays Jack, Lisa portrays Simon, the two twins portray Sam and Eric, and Milhouse portrays Piggy. Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and gladiator fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average Roman citizens. The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the most popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the senators and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of entertainment appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the races, there was a large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money probably attracted even more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many household items were decorated with symbols from the racing. The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured and their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites. The green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the other two into their ranks. • 33. Enemy of the State An Analysis of Enemy of the State Enemy of the State is a classical tale of good versus evil, complete with a tortured hero and a powerful villain. The plot revolves around Washington lawyer Robert Dean (Will Smith), an average family man, who suddenly finds his life turned upside down when an old acquaintance slips a video tape that no one is supposed to ever see into his shopping bag. The tape contains footage of the murder of a United States senator by a member of the National Security Agency (NSA). When agents at the NSA get word that Dean is in possession of the tape, they proceed to ruin his career, drive him from his home, and threaten his life in an attempt to get the tape back. Thus begins Dean s fight for survival and his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (1984) One thing that stands out about Enemy of the State is its unique use of camera angles to set mood and tone. A good example of this is in the opening sequence. Vantages of Washington D.C. exteriors are spliced with shots of high tech monitors and other devices tracking vehicles from fast orbiting satellites. The camera changes angle quickly and unpredictably here, blending with this dizzying montage of images to set the frantic, overwhelmed tone of the whole film. Another example is the unique angles used during scenes depicting Dean having an argument with his wife and Dean being chased through a tunnel. The crooked angles used to present these scenes clearly convey the fact that Dean s life is being turned upside down. Some good use of shadow during indoor scenes helps contribute to the overall paranoid, claustrophobic feel of the film. Director Tony Scott clearly demonstrates his ability to use cameral angles and lighting to evoke the feelings central to the theme of the film. Tony Scott has a reputation as a master of the visually appealing action film. (Tony Scott) He does not fail to live up to that reputation with Enemy of the State. He keeps up a quick pace throughout, using a multitude of finely choreographed chase scenes and narrow escapes guaranteed to bring audiences to the edge of their seats. High levels of speed and intensity are even used in the transitional scenes, giving the impression that every moment you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of A Christmas Story The Movie A Christmas Story the Musical The movie A Christmas Story has always been a family favorite and tradition, so when the opportunity came up to go and see it as a theater production, my mom and I knew that is exactly what we wanted to see. On December 2nd, my mom and I spent the day together by getting dinner, going shopping, and ending the night with a play. A ChristmasStory the Musical was produced by the Morgantown TheatreCompany and directed by Hillary Phillips, both whom did an outstanding job making sure everything was perfect from beginning to end. When I was in elementary school every year we would go to a play produced by the same company, so going back as a sophomore in college brought back fun childhood memories, as did seeing my childhood favorite Christmas movie on stage. I personally believe that this production was directed, preformed, and thought out extremely well with an overall experience of excitement, laughter, and the Christmas spirit! The relationship and energy that the audience had towards the performance made a large impact on my enjoyment of the play. Since A Christmas Story is such a popular movie, hundreds of people came out and packed the theatre! The doors to the theatre did not open until a half hour before, so there was a large line that wrapped around the building, despite it being cold people were very upbeat and excited; many families had on matching Christmas sweaters, children worse their pajamas, and some people when wore Santa ... The French Occupation Of Spain During The Peninsular War Francisco Goya was a Spanish painter and printmaker, especially known for his works depicting and commenting on the horrors of the French Occupation of Spain during the Peninsular War, in the early 1800 s. The Third of May , an oil on canvas painting created in 1814 by Goya, illustrates the mass executions of innocent Spanish civilians, in response to the uprising of civilians against the French military the previous day. Saturn Devouring his son, another oil on canvas masterpiece by Goya, depicts the mythological, gruesome figure of the god Saturn, who, based upon the fear of a prophecy, ate each one of his own children. The Third of May depicts a pitch black sky, looming over crowds of people below, dimly lit by geometric lanterns nearby. The focus of the scene involves two separate groups the faceless, practically identical French military, aiming their guns towards the direction of a group of petrified civilians, making various different positions. Around the civilians are lifeless bodies, coated in their own blood. As many of the civilians turn away, one figure is prominent in the centre. The man s arms are outstretched in a seemingly surrendering manner, as he kneels upon the ground, waiting to be shot. Unlike the other people, whose clothes are a sea of dark blues, greens and browns, the man wears bright white and yellow clothing, emphasised through the illuminating light of the lantern which is cast in his direction. My thinking on this is that Emmett s family is poor, and bable can control him through his desire to win and get his mother medical care. This leads me to think about a possible theme that would be connected to the larger idea of family, control and using one s family to control them. Perhaps even more interesting is the diversity that exists far beyond the naked eye. Over the past several decades, it has been determined that microorganisms account for the majority of the biomass on earth and new discoveries about these organisms are constantly being made (4). Bacteria make up a very large domain of the prokaryotes, or single celled organisms. Bacteria have an enormous range of properties. Some can be infectious and lead to maladies and fatalities; others can benefit us by contributing to medications, foods, and even maintaining natural body functions like those in the digestive tract. One of these is that breaking the Great Chain of Being results in misery and disorder, but the natural order tends to eventually recover. Another is that violence is morally ambiguous and can be good or evil depending only on who the violence affects. Finally, Shakespeare shows that what one perceives as reality is not necessarily reality, especially under the effects of guilt and or paranoia. From reading Macbeth, one can easily pick up on these messages:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, towards the end of the play, the natural order begins to return to normal. Hearing that Birnam wood was coming to Dunsinane Macbeth remarks I pull in resolution and begin To doubt th equivocation of the fiend That lies like truth. Fear not, till Birnam wood Do come to Dunsinane ; and now a wood Comes toward Dunsinane. Arm, arm, and out! If this which he avouches does appear, There is nor flying hence nor tarrying here. I gin to be aweary of the sun, And wish th estate o th world were now undone. Ring the alarum bell! Blow, wind! Come, wrack! At least we ll die with harness on our back (V.v.47 58). This quote draws parallels between Macbeth and a horse, first with the metaphor of him pulling in resolution. Through this metaphor, Macbeth suggests a fear that allowing the horse of his confidence to be free was a mistake. He mentions later that at least [he ll] die with harness on [his] back (V.v.58), which shows that Macbeth is returning to the battlefield where the natural order says he should be. Rather than rule, Macbeth s nature is to obey commands, as both a soldier and a horse does. Shakespeare emphasizes the unnatural nature of Macbeth s rule once again over here, as Birnam Wood moving to Dunsinane is an event that does not occur naturally. Shakespeare demonstrates through his use of these two nature motifs to enhance the idea that a disturbance to the natural order causes great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Review Of An Article Related To A Study On APA 1.Cite an article relating to your study using APA format. How does the techniques used in this article relate to the techniques used in your group project? Was the metabolic cart they used in the study the same or different from the one you used? What variables did the article analyze compared to your study? (~2 paragraphs) The article that I found that correlates to my group project, assesses and measures the VO2 by looking at 7 indirect tests for aerobic power. This article also used the Bruce treadmill test (Bruce protocol) which was the same protocol we used in our project. The metabolic cart that this study used was the Beckman Metabolic Measurement Cart. However, they used Astrand Ryhming submaximal CE protocol (4, 5), LeВґger ... (1 paragraph) I would alter the project by using the formula of VO2max=15x(HRmax/HRrest), and have each participant perform a VO2Max test, by using the metabolic cart. I would then compare the results from the metabolic cart and the VO2 equation, and them compare the results for comparison. I would make this change, because our group had to alter the formula of VO2max=15x(HRmax /HRrest), in order to perform a submaximal test. What we did was calculated the max heart rate, and multiplied that value by 85% of VO2 which would be considered a submaximal test. I would have liked to have seen the comparison to the equation and the metabolic cart, to see if there was an increase or decrease in the values of each of the measurements of maximal oxygen consumption. This would be interesting to analyze, because the population will not always have a metabolic cart around to measure VO2. If the equation showed similar values to the metabolic cart, the equation would be a good tool to use for estimation if the metabolic cart was not available. 3.For your project, were the test procedures provided in the Metabolic Cart/VO2 Testing lecture followed? Which steps were followed and which were not? If steps were not followed, why? (2 paragraphs) Listed below are the steps that were used as test procedures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
