Essay about Music throughout Society
Music throughout Society
We ve been talking a lot about social rituals. Well, just what exactly is a social ritual? Social rituals
are, basically, traditions or customs that a society has followed for many years. For example, in
America, most people follow the custom of dating. In Israel, they tend to follow the tradition of
arranged marriages. Yet, in some countries, they use courtship. Even though all three of these
approaches to finding a mate are different, they all are very similar because they are all Social Mating
Rituals. Now, of course, mating isn t the only social ritual. The way our culture responds to and views
death is a social ritual in and of itself. So is the way we do warfare. The way we eat and the way we

Many artists knew this to be true and took advantage of it. Music rapidly began to influence every
aspect of American lives. It was heard in their homes, cars, offices, theaters, movies, elevators and
countless other places. Music made it s way everywhere. The songs that were sung defined what every
American loved and worked for. It gave people hope and joy, as well as bringing out every other
emotion possible. Music was around during the bad times as well as the good. When people were
down there were songs they could relate to, and when they were happy there were songs they could
sing and dance to (Ennis, 1992).
In the 1920 s the first pop music began with the big bands. They were a popular choice for many
listeners, but new forms of it were already starting to branch. Swing and Jazz soon became very
popular styles of music. They mainly consisted of several trumpets, saxophones, and even stringed
instruments. A deeper bass, piano and percussion then supported them. Jazz got it s influence from
African American folk music, such as ragtime, fife and drum bands, string bands and spirituals.
Because of the newness of Jazz music, it exploded though out the United States quickly. Jazz had a
huge impact on the people of the early 1900 s. It lessened racism to some degree, and started opening
people s minds to other forms of dancing, which was considered an indecent act among many
societies. African American people gained a little more acceptance through Jazz music

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wordpress
5 Advantages And Disadvantages Of WordPress Development And Usage
In this digital age, it would almost be a mistake for any business not to have an online presence. Even
if that business is doing very well offline in its brick and mortar outfit, it would certainly perform
much better if it can move some of its products online. Daily, millions of people come to different
online platforms to communicate, source information or transact business. The internet is rich with
potential customers just waiting to patronize your goods or service.
One of the best ways of getting an online presence is by the development of your business website. A
website offers tremendous advantages to the growth of any business. It helps to introduce the business

WordPress is an open source platform. This means that the codes that have already been written and
used can be reused by developers without having to start from the beginning or modify. This has given
thousands of developers worldwide the avenue to develop themes, plugins etc, for the WordPress
platform. This saves them tremendous time since they are working on a foundation that has already
been laid. The more these developers develop WordPress themes and plugins, the more popular the
platform becomes.
2. Usability and simplicity:
WordPress developers may love WordPress development because of its Open Source nature, but
average users love WordPress because of its high user friendliness. For most other Content
Management Systems, you must, up to a good extent have basic technical knowledge to develop and
manage them. But that is not same for WordPress. It is very simplistic. You don t need any technical
knowledge neither do you need to understand programming language before you can use it. It works
on a principle of click and use, and drag and drop. Anyone can use it and use it quite well.
Perhaps you want to add some pages to your website or change the theme or color, you don t need to
hire a developer or designer, as you may have to do with other CMS. When it comes to WordPress, all
of these can be done yourself with a simple click of a bottom. This saves precious time and

Decade of Corporate Greed
Decade of Corporate Greed Dale Schroll University of Phoenix Axia College As Ronald Reagan
Ascended in the 1980 s he reinvented Republican policies that favored deregulation and the growth of
business in America. These Ideas markedly opposed the views of the governmental interventionist
policies of the 1960 s and 70 s with these ideas Reagan hoped to decrease government Involvement
and heavy taxes. With these tax cuts Reagan s thinking was that many new businesses would spawn
and that it would have a trickledown effect by not only empowering businesses to grow and hire more
people which in the end would benefit all from those on top in the corporate world all the way down

This new concentration of wealth created a whole new class of millionaires, however on the downside
for every millionaire there were several hundred homeless people. With this came more negativity that
came with the corporate greed of the 80 s.For these people who became homeless and poor due to
these millionaires greed were blamed for dragging down the economy by Republican politicians and
their mouthpieces in the media, while the truth we found out later is that indeed it was these rich
people who were ripping us off and actually were responsible for dragging down the economy. Going
as far to blaming the poor the city of Los Angeles installed a fingerprint system to guard against
welfare fraud that cost the city and hardworking tax payers 30 million dollars, and for all of this it

street crime cost, also doing more damage and arguably causing more deaths. Reagan also had a
deregulation of the savings and loans industry which was a total debacle and ended up costing
Americans 500 billion dollars which is part of the still current banking problem that is going on today.

Feminist Perspective
Two Feminist Perspectives on Perceptions and Understandings of Contemporary Feminism You re a
Hardcore Feminist, I Swear, by Jessica Valenti focuses on the different perceptions and definitions of
being a feminist. According to Valenti, most us are undercover feminists, we are afraid to admit it
because we are concerned what others will think, or have a lack of clarity regarding the definition.
Feminism is largely seen as all about the anti s, especially anti men, but it is primarily concerned with
progression and equality rather than anti anything. Valenti debunks many modern counter arguments
for the feminist movement such as things are fine the way they are, feminism is outdated and tackles
the lack of clarity regarding feminism itself. Recent polls demonstrate most women support feminist
goals, like equal pay, ending violence against women, childcare, women s healthcare and so on. To
Valenti, feminism is simply about belief in equality of the sexes, and the movement organized around
this belief. Feminists are everywhere and many people support feminist goals without even
considering to be a feminist.
Feminism is for Everybody by Bell Hooks calls for a closer look and understanding of feminism.
Hooks is extremely proud to represent feminism as a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation and
oppression. Hooks describes people think she is not like the real feminists because she is not anti men
or angry. The misunderstanding of feminist ideologies

Analyzing Anomalous Weather
In recent years, scientists and the general public have become increasingly aware of climate change.
Scientists have begun and continue to study historical and geologic records in order to determine
natural patterns versus human induced changes in climate. By studying historical data and recent
impacts, scientists may be able to determine consequences people will face now and in the future.
One of the potential consequences of the changing climate is an increase in anomalous weather events.
By definition, an anomaly is an irregularity, or something that varies from the normal pattern or range.
For the purpose of this study, anomalous weather refers to measured temperature and precipitation
values which deviate from the normal range for weather in the area of interest.
Extreme weather phenomena result in numerous instances of property damage, human displacement,
and loss of human life in the United States and globally each year. In recent years, there seems to have
been an increase in anomalous weather conditions, such as floods, droughts, severe storms, and high
temperatures, among other types of events. Extreme weather episodes affect a range of sectors
including agriculture, and food security, water, health, and tourism (Cooney, 2012). Some areas, such
as developing countries, are more vulnerable than others due to lack of funds, planning, and
infrastructure (Cooney, 2012). However, more needs to be done in all areas in order to prepare for the
rising number of these

The donation of mitochondrial is extremely important because 1 in 200 children in the UK are born
with the condition that can lead to disability and death and there is no cure currently (Mitochondrial
donation, 2014).
In the UK there is a shortage of donated gametes even though gamete donation is in demand (Murray
et al,2000) especially within the ethnic minority groups (Purewal et al, 2005). More often gamete
donation is more common within the men population than it is for the women. This may be down to
the simple fact that the technology and methods for gamete donation for women are more intrusive
and lengthy in comparison to that of a man s. Some oocyte donor express positive attributions about
their donation experience (Jordan et al,2004) whilst others attribute some negative perceptions mainly
about the techniques used and that were involved (Jordan et al,2004).
Using assisted reproductive technology has an emotional effect on the surrogate, it could cause
emotional distress on the surrogate when it comes to handing the baby over (Kennell et al,2002). Prior
to this this stage there would have been a biological bond between the surrogate and the foetus during
her pregnancy, pregnant women produce a hormone known as the oxytocin hormone which helps
prepare the surrogate to have a natural maternal instinct. (FazliKhalaf et al , 2008)

Fortune In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare often uses other worldly themes and powers in his works. One of the most
prominent ones is his use of fate, or fortune as it is more often referred to as. In Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare alludes to the role that fate plays in the story of this pair of star cross d lovers (Rom.
Prologue 6). Shakespeare s opening line in the prologue states from the beginning that fate will be
playing a pivotal position in this work. Shakespeare s other plays, such as Julius Caesar, Macbeth,
Hamlet, and King Lear all makes hints to the role that fortune plays throughout these character s
journeys. The role of fortune is often illustrated as Fortuna, goddess of fortune. Shakespeare s
characters beliefs in the stars ultimately prove that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare rarely uses the wheel seriously, as it was an overused concept at the time, according to
Rolf Soellner, But since the Wheel of Fortune was a major tragic icon that Shakespeare inherited, it
must at first sight appear strange that he rarely alluded to it seriously rarely that is, if one makes the
tough minded assumption that only explicit verbal references count. There are six such references

him. The final scene, when Edmund falls at Edgar s sword, The wheel is come full circle (Lr. 5.3.166).

The Tragic Characters Of Sophocles Antigone
In literature, a tragedy is a drama where the main character in the end suffers extreme sorrow because
of their mistakes or poor judgment. If characters fates are to suffer the extreme sorrows, then these
characters are tragic characters. These tragic characters, however, must follow Aristotle s principles
which include hamartia, hubris, peripeteia, anagnorisis, nemesis, and catharsis. If the character has all
six of Aristotle s principles, then the character can qualify as an Aristotelian tragic character. Two
examples of Aristotelian tragic characters are from Sophocles Greek play Antigone from the trilogy
dealing with Oedipus and his children (Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone). The two
Aristotelian tragic characters are Creon, the king of Thebes in Antigone, and Antigone herself.
Creon s hamartia, his flaw that causes his downfall, includes his stubbornness which causes him to not
listen to the opinions of others, including Tiresias, additionally, this also connects to hubris since he
also did this because of his pride. In Antigone, Creon is an Aristotelian tragic character. His six
principles are more obvious to the reader. Tiresias tries to warn Creon as to what will come if he doesn
t change his ways now, but he ignores Tiresias even though he is a prophet. Creon says Tiresias sold
his wisdom and lets out his words for hire (Sophocles 837). This means that Creon thinks that Tiresias
has come to say these things to him because someone pays Tiresias

his innocence cannot assert with surety that Dunne is not a criminal because revelations keep popping

utmost level.
Amy character is credible in the sense that she successfully leave trails that were a good evidence to

perpetrator is Dunne. At the beginning of the movie, Amy makes it hard to believe that she is not dead

Sdlc ( Software Development Life Cycle ) Methodology
Abstract: In this report we are going to explore about SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)
Methodology and we are discussing about the differences between SDLC and Agile Project
Management. Firstly we discuss about basics of SDLC Methods and their SWOT Analysis their
mission and visions , And we are discussing their basic differences in it Before we get into actual
discussion we need to know about three main thing of SDLC methods they are : 1) Design of software
to meet the requirements 2) Construction of the Software to meet the design 3) Deployment of
software Along with this three things we need to give the maintenance facility for the developed
software. With all these basic features we can say that we meet the specifications of SDLC
methodology. There is many protocols to meet the actual requirements of any SDLC method. Here
there are common features like analysis, design, develop, Testing, Production and Maintenance. Here
in this report we not discussing these features in each SDLC methodology but the difference among.
INTRODUCTION: Some basic information about the SDLC SDLC is comprises of a series of
sequential Phases which usually do not step over each other. The sense of the do not step over each

Slavery reforms, sobriety, women s rights, and Temperance in the Antebellum Period, between the
War of 1812 in the Civil War, all descended from the Second Great Awakening. The Second Great

Americans. The Abolitionist Movement was a movement for equality. Equality was one of the main
goals and influences in The Second great Awakening that carried into the Antebellum Period. The
religions created in the The Second Great Awakening also included the creation of perfectionism.
Perfectionism was not fully supported by Baptists and methodists because they did not believe it

Terror(ism) in Literature:
The Man Who Was Thursday :
A Review
Authors either use terror as a topic or theme in order to justify the acts of the artist as revolutionist or

literature in the form of textuality with reference to The Man Who Was Thursday. Gilbert Keith

In this essay on social classes in Britain I will mostly concentrate on structure of various classes in
Britain and relations between them. I will also describe some changes and movements which this
classes went through over the years. Furthermore, I will put emphasis on today s important issue in
Britain, the problem of class struggle i.e. disparity between the rich and the poor. Although there are
various definitions of social class, we may say that social class is connected with factors such as
wealth, level of education and occupation. To be more precise in defining it, a social class is a status

With the loss of the majority of traditional working class industrial jobs from the market, a new
underclass , below working class emerged. The underclass , defined as unemployed relying on state
benefits, is the new bottom of the British class system. [12] Since the 1950s there has been a massive
growth of the middle class. But there has also been the emergence of a sizeable underclass , as
category E is commonly known. [13] As opposite, in the 1990s, according to Andrew Adonis and

which consisted of elite professionals and managers, which held high salaries and share ownership.
[14] Because of such situation, caused by the fact that the middle class is mobile and fluid, there has

percentages of categories A, B and C1 have increased, and percentages of categories C2, D and E have

Innate Pathogens
Pathogens and parasites are very dangerous and lethal to not only vertebrate species such as animals,
but invertebrate species like insects as well. Insects have to heavily rely on their innate immune
system, which is an immediate response in quickly destroying invaders (Alberts et al 2002). Melanism
is a key response to insects innate defenses that serves many functions like improving fitness. Melanin
darkens the insects cuticle, which is facilitated by the enzyme phenoloxidase that converts dopamine
to melanin (True 2003). So when the insect is infected, host hemocytes surround around an invader

Perfection In Dancing
Perfection in the eyes of dancers is thinness as well as good health, great performance, and overall the
best dancer. Perfection is an abstract idea that everyone wants to achieve. Smith states that dancers are
one of the most driven people, however perfection is their main obstacle. Their goal to achieve
perfection throws them off because they slowly begin to develop eating disorders without realizing, all
because they want to appear thinner and slim. Dancers are especially more prone to developing eating
disorders due to their environment and peers; the unhealthy body expectations placed on dancers

Eating disorders may initially be a choice not to eat but it becomes an addiction, similar to how
smoking or drinking becomes addictive. Ballerinas are more likely to dislike their body because their
body may not fit their body goals. Body dissatisfaction is present among 37% to 84% of ballet dancers
(Ringham). Similar to how some teens idolize celebrities rich lifestyles, ballerinas idolize professional
dancers body physiques. In the dancing world, having a skinny body is praised. It is seem as a
necessity as a dancer, when it really is not. The percentage is unfortunately a high amount, which
means that the eating disorders must be stopped. Coaches and dance teachers are beginning to reach
out to any of their students that seems to have an eating disorder, by monitoring their behaviors and
maybe their eating habits if permitted. It is unfortunate to have dancers develop eating disorders from
a hobby and passion that they love. Anorexia [an eating disorder where one starves themselves] is
something I will have to deal with for the rest of my life, however, and truly getting over it is a long
process (Cappelle). Eating disorders are a huge obstacle for dancers because it affects their body and it
will slowly affect the way they dance and perceive the world as well. People who suffer from eating

One watches TV, another cooks, while one hangs his laundry on the bars. Difficult to be convinced
that it s about a prison. The colors and lighting serve this hyper realist atmosphere.
Inspired by the lighting of the prison, Walter Carvalho, director of photography, mixes the colors,
making hot and cold lights cohabit. The result: a chromatic chaos contrary to the dark and dull images
one usually has of this type of place. However, bad luck and filth live on the walls.
The characters drag bad luck like a ball and chain. It s unfortunate that Babenco didn t know to draw
up their portraits intelligibly. He doesn t manage avoiding the tedious enumeration of their personal
stories. During the procession of the prisoners in the infirmary where the doctor quickly gains their
confidence, the audience is entitled to flashbacks on each one. As necessary as these biographies are in
order to be attached to the protagonists, Babenco toils to connect everything.
On the other hand he manages to awake the audience s empathy through a distanced humor, as in the
scene where a volunteer helps the doctor to inject the patients, all while smoking crack. In order to

Examples Of Roswell Conspiracy
Roswell Conspiracy Conspiracy theories have always been easy to spread amongst the American
population due to common lack of trust for the American government. An example of which being the
incident of Roswell, New Mexico. On one dreadful summer night in 1947, something crashed in a
corn field in the middle of New Mexico. Little was known of what crashed that night, and it was
because of this lack of identity that caused the common population to assume the worst, an
extraterrestrial encounter. Slightly before this news of an alien spaceship crash, there were numerous
reports of flying saucers being seen flying above Roswell, New Mexico (DiSpezio para 12). It was
because of this increased interest in such things as extraterrestrial life that ... Show more content on

At the time, this was biggest thing to happen in America and everyone was interested in this incident
and the conspiracies that came with it. Such rumors as there being a surviving extraterrestrial creature
that came with the crash soon entertained the people of America (Park para 17). Due to all the
different stories being told to the public, people started to just say that there was an incident in
Roswell that had to do with an extraterrestrial encounter and the government was covering it up. It
was not until decades later in 1994 that the military decided to come clean. According to their report,
the remains of the wreckage found on that night were not of any kind of spaceship, but instead of a
crashed weather balloon apart of a secret mission called Project Mogul (DiSpezio para 14). By 1997
the Air Force had gathered all information related to the Roswell incident and formed a formal report.
The formal report drew one of the biggest crowds on record for the Pentagon press conference (Park
para 24). Although the report was officially released, it was still far too late. The government hoped
that the report would change people s mind about the whole conspiracy, but anything they did was
seen as a conspiracy. Everything that has ever been said by the government after that original report of
a flying disc being recovered has been

The Commercial Sexual Exploitation Of Children
The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children proposed an international commitment to prevent
the exploitation of children in pornography, trafficking, prostitution, and other crimes of a sexual
nature. They suggested the commitment in late 2001, and they committed to improving local, regional,
national, and international laws to help combat sexual crimes against minor children. They developed
laws to coordinate agencies and push for laws that help prosecute anyone conducting illegal activities
against children. The cooperation of all countries that accepted the commitment made it easier for law
enforcement to find, track, and eventually prosecute persons who exploit child for the before
mentioned crimes. The CSEC conducted studies on different

Why Magic Should Not Be Confused With Witchcraft
In the 21st century what do people think of when they hear the word magic? Is it Harry Potter and his
friends fighting off Lord Voldemort or perhaps as Black Sabbath sings witches at Black Masses? It is
probably a bit of both depending on your age and religious beliefs. This was not the case during the
time period extending from antiquity to the early modern period. People in this time believed that
magic could explain things they did not understand or could not explain. It was not for entertainment.
Magic probably claimed to provide all the answers which were later provided by science, technology,
and philosophy: it was everything. This statement stands true for all three periods this paper focuses
on even the early modern period when religion was supposed to have taken place of magical beliefs.
Magic should not be confused with witchcraft. People believed that you could perform magic without
being or needing a witch. In antiquity, people believed that magic was between religion and
superstition. In a sense, magic, understood as a kind of science, has always tried to locate the secret
forces in nature, especially their sympathies and antipathies and use them for specific purposes.
Ancient Greeks and Romans practiced or believed in many forms of magic but the magical ideal that
lasted the longest and is seen throughout all three time periods is the ideal of malefic, the use of magic
to do evil or harm. Medea is a prime example of this type of magic. She uses her

Persuasive Essay About Bad Driving
My best friend will likely be the death of me, but I still love her. I have known her for three years and
would trust her with anything, or so I thought. Everything changed the moment she got her license.
Suddenly the need for coffee was completely eliminated, and all I had to do was ride to school with
her. Through many close encounters and two accidents so far, I have learned the definition of a terrible
driver. Every ride with her is an adventure involving skipped stop signs, speeding, and near collisions.
She is the reason why many adults believe that teenagers should not their license because of poor
driving. The first thing I do when I get inside her car is buckle my seatbelt and prepare myself for the
journey ahead. The entire time she is behind the wheel, I am on the edge of my seat checking her
speedometer and watching for children and other cars. Subconsciously, my hands curl around the seat
belt and tightly grip it when I notice a sharp turn or speed bump ahead. I do my best to not make a
sound, but I sometimes catch myself mentioning the turning car ahead. My friend snaps at me and
assures me that she knows what she is doing, but I am not convinced. Only when the car is in park and
my shoes touch solid ground, am I able to breathe normally.
When you are taught to drive, the instructor emphasizes the importance of being aware of your
surroundings and reacting to them. In spite of this being the essence of driving, my friend is oblivious
to everything around

The Thousand And One Nights And The Decameron
Women used to be seen as below men and were not given equal opportunities that men were. Authors
started to write books and stories to show that women can be put in situations where they break
adversity and show their worth against men. Men used to believe that they were above women at all
times and that no matter what they could do what they would like to a woman and not be questioned,
and this is where gender roles and social norms started to be a huge factor in everyday life. In both the
thousand and one nights and the Decameron, women are seen as not worthy of much and are seen as
being downgraded in many situations. Even though certain social norms and behaviors are portrayed

In the Decameron, women are viewed as powerless, but if the reader reads between the lines they will
see that women hold most of the power because the wife still gets her way and the husband is left
alone. The roles are evident for both men and women and that is whatever the man wants usually is
what happens, except for the suicide attempt. In both the Decameron and the thousand and one night s
women have certain roles set about women, which include that women are under men and should
always do what the man says.
In the thousand and one nights, women can be seen as degrading themselves while doing the act of
cheating. After King Shahrayar witness his wife cheating on him, he told his brother that No one is
safe in this world. Such doings are going on in my kingdom and in my very palace. Perish the world
and perish life! (560) This proved that he did not respect women anymore because his wife was
cheating on him in his own area, and this was a representation of his wife degrading herself since she
looked for other sources of love and feelings. The action of cheating showed that women cheat on
their husbands to take revenge because of the unfair and unrightfully treatment that they are put
through. After the cheating, the King sees down on women because of how he was treated. This

After the 9/11 attack, Americans became enraged with those from the middle east, specifically
Muslims. Raisuddin Bhuiyan, who goes by Rais, was a Muslim who immigrated to The United States,
was unfortunately a victim of this hate. After being shot and nearly killed by Mark Stroman, Rais s
faith after the shooting became very strong, realizing he was given a reason to live. Rais is a very
religious man who came to the United States, from Dhaka, Bangladesh, shortly before the attacks on
the twin towers in New York. After making America his home, the attack itself affected Rais very
strongly, causing him to, throb with rage. (p. 24) Though he was not the only one who was enraged.
Many people he encountered or overheard in the food mart where he worked were saying things such
as Kill all Muslims in the Middle East. (p. 24) This affected Rais on a personal level, given he was a
Muslim. Rais believed those who committed the act of terrorism were not Muslims, they were

Foucault, Femininity And The Modernization Of Patriarchal...
In Foucault, Femininity, and the Modernization of Patriarchal Power, Sandra Bartky utilizes Michel
Foucault s concepts about power to help explain femininity. Throughout the article, she details how
society forces women to fit within the confines of this construct and how it affects them.
Sandra Bartky begins her piece by explaining Michel Foucault s ideas about modern power dynamics.
Unlike in the past, power in modern society focuses not only on controlling the products of the body
but, rather, on governing all its activities. In order for this power to continue, people are disciplined
into becoming docile bodies which are subjected and practiced (Bartky, 63). This discipline is imposed
through constant surveillance in a manner similar to the Panopticon. Inmates in said prison are always
visible to a guard in the central tower, so they mentally coerced into monitoring their own behavior. In
the same way, individuals become their own jailers and subject themselves to the society s whim due
to being in a state of conscious and permanent visibility to its all seeing eye (65). Bartky, however,
breaks from Foucault s theory by claiming that there is a clear difference in the disciplines imposed on
men and women that are ignored in the latter s writings.
Bartky posits that neither women nor men are born feminine or masculine; they are disciplined into
those molds. She delineates three categories of disciplinary practices that produce feminine women.

Personal Statement On The American Dream
The American dream is a well known phrase. Working hard is the key to being blissful and successful.
My personal American Dream is to be truly prosperous. True happiness for me would include
fortunate marriage, my dream career, an impeccable house, and two healthy kids. I heard my aunt say
this before and I agree wholeheartedly: Everything good in life is worth working for . In order to attain
my American dream I have set goals for myself. My first goal is to have a blissful marriage. A truly
blissful marriage to me would have trust, honesty, communication, love, and so much more. Of course
to achieve true happiness in marriage is forgiveness and being able to let go of the little things. In my
happy marriage, my husband would have to share responsibilities and at the same time, try not to
expect too much from me and I would do the same. In addition the ideal marriage for me would have
cuddling, sex, booty grabbing, laughter, vacations, and slews of hugs and kisses. Another important
thing to remember is no marriage is perfect. Furthermore my husband would never ever go to sleep
mad at me and he will always say I love you before leaving and before bed. Additionally, he will
remember to thank me, he will also think about what he says before he says it, and he will show that
he appreciates me and will never take anything for granted. With this in mind, making each other
happy is very essential in any marriage so I would ask myself what I can do to make my partner

The Value Of The Balance Sheet
The main purpose of the balance sheet is to reflect and explain the accounting equation: Assets =
Liabilities + Owner s Equity. This equation is the fundamental model for recording and reporting
transactions. It is essentially useful for showing what the company owns, what the company owes, and
what does the owner s equity remains. The ordering of the assets and the liabilities help the user to
assess the liquidity of the company. For our purpose focusing on Walt Disney World, we are primarily
focused on their assets and liabilities. In analyzing the balance sheet of our company, we will explain
each aspects of the balance sheet in three separate parts.
To understand how the total assets changed within a year, we shall look at each aspects of the assets.
In the cash and cash equivalent, we have seen that the cash in hand decreased in 2013 from $3,931 to
$3,421 in 2014. This shall shows that the company may have spent cash on inventories and other
goods for the benefit of the company. In the receivables aspect, the amount of receivables has begun to
increase from 2013 to 2014 with an increase rate of 11.6%. In other terms, it increased from $6,967 in
2013 to $7,822 in 2014. This was an infinitesimal increase and it shows that the company had a lot of
companies owing them for the purchase of the Walt Disney Products and land usage. Another way of
saying is that other companies may be purchasing land from Disney to sell their products and expand
their companies to wider

Traditional Tradition And Traditionalism
Tradition is the living faith of the dead, traditionalism is the dead faith of the living. And, I suppose I
should add, it is traditionalism that gives tradition such a bad name (Jaroslav Pelikan). As seen, a
person could either control tradition or be controlled by traditionalism. Throughout this paper, we will
be visiting three different pieces of art: the short story Tikki Tikki Tembo by Arlene Mosel this is a
great example of what could happen if we fall for traditions; the song Am I Wrong by Nico Vinz, this
songs boldly encourages people to think outside of the box of traditions; and, lastly, the poem The

The song encourages its audience to think outside the box and come up with new ways to do things
out of the ordinary. The singer starts the song with a hook question: Am I wrong for thinking out the
box from where I stay? Am I wrong for saying that I ll choose another way? (Nico Vinz). This
question is meant to make people think about breaking the ordinary. Afterward, the author offers the
audience with a benefit of being non traditional and extraordinary, he sings, If one thing I know, how
far would I grow? (Nico Vinz). As been chanted, a new, non traditional way could ultimately help us
find a new higher limits and beat the old ones. This song wants to beat the ordinary and help people
escape traditions to potentially earn better results throughout their daily lives. This is such an amazing
benefit! So don t be afraid to be non traditional and try something new.
Finally, the poem The Rose That Grew From Concrete conveys the great benefits of non traditionalism
by clearly showing how a beauty is formed from unexpected places if we leave

Pros And Cons Of A Good Ozone And Good Ozone
Good ozone
Bad ozone
Ozone occurs in two layers of the atmosphere. The ozone that is commonly associated with ozone
depletion and the ozone hole is in the stratosphere, a layer that extends upward from about 10 to 30
miles (15 to 50 kilometers) above the earth. This good ozone shields life on earth from the sun s
harmful ultraviolet rays (UV b).
The layer surrounding the earth s surface is the troposphere. Here, ground level or bad ozone is an air
pollutant that damages human health, vegetation, and many common materials. It is a key ingredient
of urban smog. The troposphere extends from the surface to about 10 miles (15 kilometers) above the
surface. Ground level, or bad ozone , is also called tropospheric ozone while good ozone is called
stratospheric ozone. About 80 90% of all ozone in the atmosphere is found in the stratosphere ... Show

In fact, 90% of the earth s ozone layer is located in the stratosphere. This stratospheric ozone is 6 30
miles high above the ground. Natural ozone creates a protective shield from the sun s damaging rays
onto the earth. Ultraviolet radiation, or UV rays, can create a host of health issues, such as skin cancer,
cataracts and immune system impairments, if UV exposure is too high. Ozone is also commonly used
in mold remediation and as an effective means of odor control.
In our modern technologically advanced society, man made activities have been depleting our ozone
layer faster than ever. As our protective ozone shield becomes compromised, more UV radiation
makes its way to the earth s surface. Increased amounts of UV rays are exemplifying the detrimental
effects on human, animal and agricultural

Personality Change And Age Difference
Barbara Sarfo PSY 437 Advanced Research Method 07/20/2015 Personality Change and Age
Difference Does the age difference have something to do with people change in their personality? A.
Specific Aim The age an individual feels is related to changes in characteristic ways of thinking,
feeling, and behaving over time. As people aged, they become more mature and they approach thing
differently and that in a way has effects their personality either positively or negatively. The aim of the
study was to find out if age difference has anything to do with personality change. B. Introduction
Personality takes many shapes and forms and is affected by many factors. My understanding of
personality is simply a genetic and environmentally determined set of psychological traits that
influence our reactions in the world around us. Genetic because our parents possess a certain set of
psychological personality traits that we tend to have in common with them so therefore in my opinion
there are heritable personality traits. Personality is environmental because we each have our own
separate experiences in the world and these experiences help form our unique personality. Neo
Freudians such as Jung have given us a wide array of ideas of how they believe personality is
developed and formatted. Jung in particular has a very interesting take on personality. It is this theory
that I can most resonate with and apply to myself and even friends and family of mine. Current

John R Searle Can Computers Think Summary
In Can Computers Think?, John R. Searle argues that strong artificial intelligence is false and
therefore machines cannot think or exhibit understanding like a human mind. Strong AI claims that a
correctly written program running on a machine functions as a mind and there are essentially no
differences between the software exactly emulating the actions of the brain and the mental contents of
a human. Searle uses a thought experiment called the Chinese Room Argument to argue against strong
AI. Various objections, such as the Robot Reply, challenge Searle s argument by further testing the
potential of a machine to possess understanding, intentionality, and subjectivity. In this essay, I will
argue that Searle s argument against strong AI ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will explain two objections to Searle but conclude that the Robot Reply is a stronger objection. First,
the System s Reply claims that the person in the Chinese Room does not implement the computer
software. Rather, the person is only part of the machinery and the system as a whole implements the
software. The System s Reply claims the larger system understands Chinese even if the person running
the program does not. I assert that the person running the program can internalize the larger system
and still cannot understand Chinese, that is, gain semantics from syntax. In comparison to the Systems
Reply, the Robot Reply adds the capacity for casual interaction with the world. The Robot Reply
concedes that Searle is correct that a computer trapped in a computer room could not understand the
meaning of the language whose symbols it is manipulating. However, the Robot reply further claims
that such a computer in a robot body, with the ability to move and interact with the world through
sensors, could attach meaning to symbols and actually understand the language. While the Robot
Reply is the strongest objection to the Chinese Room Argument, I oppose this objection to Searle s
argument because the robot system continues to follow a computational set of rules that are
established through its

Inside Job 2010 Directed By Charles Ferguson
International business is the most desirable and vital phenomena in today s modern world. Most
individuals know that International Business is the necessity for the prosperity of our world. No one
can prosper without performing business internationally. When learning of how other countries
conduct International Business, a company can expand their market to appeal to citizens of these
places. However, being as close knit as we are to other countries, not everyone holds the same values.
Every business goals is to make profit and if one company acts in an unethical matter, that will create
a downfall domino effect. This statement holds truth for the result of the financial/banking crisis that
occurred in 2008 because of many errors that were made unethically and eventually affected many
other countries around the world and their living conditions. The documentary Inside Job 2010
directed by Charles Ferguson is without a doubt a very effective film documentary. It did an
outstanding job of giving more insight on the banking crisis in 2008 and how it created a domino
effect leading to global recession. In all honesty, this film did not shock me at all in terms of how
corrupt the financial industry in the United States is. What I found humorous in this documentary,
were the moments throughout the film where most of the important questions to be answered followed
with the next screen that said ____ declined to be interviewed for this film . However, besides the

Cultural Capital As An Agent Of Change Essay
When examining a family s history it is obvious that the many children have ended up with the same
level of education as their parents and ancestors. Children whose parents received tertiary level
education normally obtain a qualification from tertiary level education as well. This idea was first
questioned by Pierre Bourdieu who introduced the concept of cultural capital. Cultural capital is the
skills that a person can use to their advantage in a social situation, especially in education. While
observing a classroom children were being dismissed because they did not speak the language, their
low cultural capital impacted their learning immensely; however, in another classroom I observed the
teacher being an agent of change. Striving to include every child in the lesson depict the diverse range
of cultural capital present. These two different situations impacted when the child was present, how
the children participated in class and their overall achievement.
Cultural capital is the ideas and knowledge that people draw upon and use as an asset in social
situations. As Lamont Lareau state the idea of cultural capital was introduced in the 1960s by Pierre
Bourdieu, a French sociologist, anthropologist and philosopher. The concept was originally designed
to explain why children from certain backgrounds would often repeat their family history in education
(Lamont Lareau). Bourdieu tried to explain the social inequalities in education in during the 1960s in
France. Children

Myths And Misconceptions Of Serial Killers
The term serial killers has never really been defined until roughly 1998 when congress passes a
Children Protection act from Sexual Predator Act of 1998. This Act defined serial killers as a series of

confused between serial killers and a spree murder. The Difference is that spree murderers often get
killed or seriously killed, however spree murderers have also killed themselves. Although serial killers
are extremely rare event that is estimated to constitute for less than 1% of all murders committed.
Serial killers mostly kill over a time period killing more than three victims, however many serial

Multilingualism is easily defined as an occurrence regarding an individual or group of speaker(s) who

two type of multilingualism is seen in our scenario: These two type of multilingualism are: A)
Additive multilingualism and B) Subtractive multilingualism.
Additive bi/multilingualism: Additive multilingualism enriches both the languages by their usage; e.g.
if a child cherishes/nourishes other languages side by side his mother tongue too, then it is called
additive bi/multilingualism.
Subtractive multilingualism: It refers to the gradual loss of the first language as the second language
dominates learner s functional space, in which case the speaker s loyalty shifted towards acquired
language; e.g. if a child acquired second language and this language dominates upon his/her mother
tongue and he/she priorities and shifts loyalty to acquired language, then it is called subtractive
multilingualism. (Bedadur Vijay Nivedita, 2015 pp

  • 2. Essay about Music throughout Society Music throughout Society We ve been talking a lot about social rituals. Well, just what exactly is a social ritual? Social rituals are, basically, traditions or customs that a society has followed for many years. For example, in America, most people follow the custom of dating. In Israel, they tend to follow the tradition of arranged marriages. Yet, in some countries, they use courtship. Even though all three of these approaches to finding a mate are different, they all are very similar because they are all Social Mating Rituals. Now, of course, mating isn t the only social ritual. The way our culture responds to and views death is a social ritual in and of itself. So is the way we do warfare. The way we eat and the way we clothe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many artists knew this to be true and took advantage of it. Music rapidly began to influence every aspect of American lives. It was heard in their homes, cars, offices, theaters, movies, elevators and countless other places. Music made it s way everywhere. The songs that were sung defined what every American loved and worked for. It gave people hope and joy, as well as bringing out every other emotion possible. Music was around during the bad times as well as the good. When people were down there were songs they could relate to, and when they were happy there were songs they could sing and dance to (Ennis, 1992). In the 1920 s the first pop music began with the big bands. They were a popular choice for many listeners, but new forms of it were already starting to branch. Swing and Jazz soon became very popular styles of music. They mainly consisted of several trumpets, saxophones, and even stringed instruments. A deeper bass, piano and percussion then supported them. Jazz got it s influence from African American folk music, such as ragtime, fife and drum bands, string bands and spirituals. Because of the newness of Jazz music, it exploded though out the United States quickly. Jazz had a huge impact on the people of the early 1900 s. It lessened racism to some degree, and started opening people s minds to other forms of dancing, which was considered an indecent act among many societies. African American people gained a little more acceptance through Jazz music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Wordpress 5 Advantages And Disadvantages Of WordPress Development And Usage In this digital age, it would almost be a mistake for any business not to have an online presence. Even if that business is doing very well offline in its brick and mortar outfit, it would certainly perform much better if it can move some of its products online. Daily, millions of people come to different online platforms to communicate, source information or transact business. The internet is rich with potential customers just waiting to patronize your goods or service. One of the best ways of getting an online presence is by the development of your business website. A website offers tremendous advantages to the growth of any business. It helps to introduce the business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... WordPress is an open source platform. This means that the codes that have already been written and used can be reused by developers without having to start from the beginning or modify. This has given thousands of developers worldwide the avenue to develop themes, plugins etc, for the WordPress platform. This saves them tremendous time since they are working on a foundation that has already been laid. The more these developers develop WordPress themes and plugins, the more popular the platform becomes. 2. Usability and simplicity: WordPress developers may love WordPress development because of its Open Source nature, but average users love WordPress because of its high user friendliness. For most other Content Management Systems, you must, up to a good extent have basic technical knowledge to develop and manage them. But that is not same for WordPress. It is very simplistic. You don t need any technical knowledge neither do you need to understand programming language before you can use it. It works on a principle of click and use, and drag and drop. Anyone can use it and use it quite well. Perhaps you want to add some pages to your website or change the theme or color, you don t need to hire a developer or designer, as you may have to do with other CMS. When it comes to WordPress, all of these can be done yourself with a simple click of a bottom. This saves precious time and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Decade of Corporate Greed Decade of Corporate Greed Dale Schroll University of Phoenix Axia College As Ronald Reagan Ascended in the 1980 s he reinvented Republican policies that favored deregulation and the growth of business in America. These Ideas markedly opposed the views of the governmental interventionist policies of the 1960 s and 70 s with these ideas Reagan hoped to decrease government Involvement and heavy taxes. With these tax cuts Reagan s thinking was that many new businesses would spawn and that it would have a trickledown effect by not only empowering businesses to grow and hire more people which in the end would benefit all from those on top in the corporate world all the way down to the lowest person in the company in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This new concentration of wealth created a whole new class of millionaires, however on the downside for every millionaire there were several hundred homeless people. With this came more negativity that came with the corporate greed of the 80 s.For these people who became homeless and poor due to these millionaires greed were blamed for dragging down the economy by Republican politicians and their mouthpieces in the media, while the truth we found out later is that indeed it was these rich people who were ripping us off and actually were responsible for dragging down the economy. Going as far to blaming the poor the city of Los Angeles installed a fingerprint system to guard against welfare fraud that cost the city and hardworking tax payers 30 million dollars, and for all of this it caught one cheater. While at the same time White collar crime was rising and costing us more than street crime cost, also doing more damage and arguably causing more deaths. Reagan also had a deregulation of the savings and loans industry which was a total debacle and ended up costing Americans 500 billion dollars which is part of the still current banking problem that is going on today. • 5. Feminist Perspective Two Feminist Perspectives on Perceptions and Understandings of Contemporary Feminism You re a Hardcore Feminist, I Swear, by Jessica Valenti focuses on the different perceptions and definitions of being a feminist. According to Valenti, most us are undercover feminists, we are afraid to admit it because we are concerned what others will think, or have a lack of clarity regarding the definition. Feminism is largely seen as all about the anti s, especially anti men, but it is primarily concerned with progression and equality rather than anti anything. Valenti debunks many modern counter arguments for the feminist movement such as things are fine the way they are, feminism is outdated and tackles the lack of clarity regarding feminism itself. Recent polls demonstrate most women support feminist goals, like equal pay, ending violence against women, childcare, women s healthcare and so on. To Valenti, feminism is simply about belief in equality of the sexes, and the movement organized around this belief. Feminists are everywhere and many people support feminist goals without even considering to be a feminist. Feminism is for Everybody by Bell Hooks calls for a closer look and understanding of feminism. Hooks is extremely proud to represent feminism as a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation and oppression. Hooks describes people think she is not like the real feminists because she is not anti men or angry. The misunderstanding of feminist ideologies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analyzing Anomalous Weather In recent years, scientists and the general public have become increasingly aware of climate change. Scientists have begun and continue to study historical and geologic records in order to determine natural patterns versus human induced changes in climate. By studying historical data and recent impacts, scientists may be able to determine consequences people will face now and in the future. One of the potential consequences of the changing climate is an increase in anomalous weather events. By definition, an anomaly is an irregularity, or something that varies from the normal pattern or range. For the purpose of this study, anomalous weather refers to measured temperature and precipitation values which deviate from the normal range for weather in the area of interest. Extreme weather phenomena result in numerous instances of property damage, human displacement, and loss of human life in the United States and globally each year. In recent years, there seems to have been an increase in anomalous weather conditions, such as floods, droughts, severe storms, and high temperatures, among other types of events. Extreme weather episodes affect a range of sectors including agriculture, and food security, water, health, and tourism (Cooney, 2012). Some areas, such as developing countries, are more vulnerable than others due to lack of funds, planning, and infrastructure (Cooney, 2012). However, more needs to be done in all areas in order to prepare for the rising number of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this essay is to discuss on whether surrogate mothers or those donating gametes for research and in fertility treatment of others receive remuneration for their contribution beyond what is currently offered. This will be done by defining the relevant concepts and associated terminology, discuss on the physical and emotional impact that may occur, the different factors that may lead to exploitation and finally considering what could be done to prevent exploitation. Surrogacy is an option for those with a medical condition that makes it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The donation of mitochondrial is extremely important because 1 in 200 children in the UK are born with the condition that can lead to disability and death and there is no cure currently (Mitochondrial donation, 2014). In the UK there is a shortage of donated gametes even though gamete donation is in demand (Murray et al,2000) especially within the ethnic minority groups (Purewal et al, 2005). More often gamete donation is more common within the men population than it is for the women. This may be down to the simple fact that the technology and methods for gamete donation for women are more intrusive and lengthy in comparison to that of a man s. Some oocyte donor express positive attributions about their donation experience (Jordan et al,2004) whilst others attribute some negative perceptions mainly about the techniques used and that were involved (Jordan et al,2004). There are six such references (Soellner 275). Three times uses this concept three times in King Lear. • 9. The Tragic Characters Of Sophocles Antigone In literature, a tragedy is a drama where the main character in the end suffers extreme sorrow because of their mistakes or poor judgment. If characters fates are to suffer the extreme sorrows, then these characters are tragic characters. These tragic characters, however, must follow Aristotle s principles which include hamartia, hubris, peripeteia, anagnorisis, nemesis, and catharsis. If the character has all six of Aristotle s principles, then the character can qualify as an Aristotelian tragic character. Two examples of Aristotelian tragic characters are from Sophocles Greek play Antigone from the trilogy dealing with Oedipus and his children (Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone). The two Aristotelian tragic characters are Creon, the king of Thebes in Antigone, and Antigone herself. Creon s hamartia, his flaw that causes his downfall, includes his stubbornness which causes him to not listen to the opinions of others, including Tiresias, additionally, this also connects to hubris since he also did this because of his pride. In Antigone, Creon is an Aristotelian tragic character. His six principles are more obvious to the reader. Tiresias tries to warn Creon as to what will come if he doesn t change his ways now, but he ignores Tiresias even though he is a prophet. Creon says Tiresias sold his wisdom and lets out his words for hire (Sophocles 837). This means that Creon thinks that Tiresias has come to say these things to him because someone pays Tiresias ... In Foucault, Femininity, and the Modernization of Patriarchal Power, Sandra Bartky utilizes Michel Foucault s concepts about power to help explain femininity. Throughout the article, she details how society forces women to fit within the confines of this construct and how it affects them. Sandra Bartky begins her piece by explaining Michel Foucault s ideas about modern power dynamics. Unlike in the past, power in modern society focuses not only on controlling the products of the body but, rather, on governing all its activities. In order for this power to continue, people are disciplined into becoming docile bodies which are subjected and practiced (Bartky, 63). This discipline is imposed through constant surveillance in a manner similar to the Panopticon. Inmates in said prison are always visible to a guard in the central tower, so they mentally coerced into monitoring their own behavior. In the same way, individuals become their own jailers and subject themselves to the society s whim due to being in a state of conscious and permanent visibility to its all seeing eye (65). Bartky, however, breaks from Foucault s theory by claiming that there is a clear difference in the disciplines imposed on men and women that are ignored in the latter s writings. Bartky posits that neither women nor men are born feminine or masculine; they are disciplined into those molds. She delineates three categories of disciplinary practices that produce feminine women. • 28. The Value Of The Balance Sheet The main purpose of the balance sheet is to reflect and explain the accounting equation: Assets = Liabilities + Owner s Equity. This equation is the fundamental model for recording and reporting transactions. It is essentially useful for showing what the company owns, what the company owes, and what does the owner s equity remains. The ordering of the assets and the liabilities help the user to assess the liquidity of the company. For our purpose focusing on Walt Disney World, we are primarily focused on their assets and liabilities. This shall shows that the company may have spent cash on inventories and other goods for the benefit of the company. In the receivables aspect, the amount of receivables has begun to increase from 2013 to 2014 with an increase rate of 11.6%. In other terms, it increased from $6,967 in 2013 to $7,822 in 2014. This was an infinitesimal increase and it shows that the company had a lot of companies owing them for the purchase of the Walt Disney Products and land usage. Another way of saying is that other companies may be purchasing land from Disney to sell their products and expand their companies to wider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And, I suppose I should add, it is traditionalism that gives tradition such a bad name (Jaroslav Pelikan). As seen, a person could either control tradition or be controlled by traditionalism. Throughout this paper, we will be visiting three different pieces of art: the short story Tikki Tikki Tembo by Arlene Mosel this is a great example of what could happen if we fall for traditions; the song Am I Wrong by Nico Vinz, this songs boldly encourages people to think outside of the box of traditions; and, lastly, the poem The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac Shakur, this poem represents the beauty of being non traditional. The singer starts the song with a hook question: Am I wrong for thinking out the box from where I stay? Am I wrong for saying that I ll choose another way? (Nico Vinz). This question is meant to make people think about breaking the ordinary. Afterward, the author offers the audience with a benefit of being non traditional and extraordinary, he sings, If one thing I know, how far would I grow? (Nico Vinz). The ozone that is commonly associated with ozone depletion and the ozone hole is in the stratosphere, a layer that extends upward from about 10 to 30 miles (15 to 50 kilometers) above the earth. This good ozone shields life on earth from the sun s harmful ultraviolet rays (UV b). The layer surrounding the earth s surface is the troposphere. Here, ground level or bad ozone is an air pollutant that damages human health, vegetation, and many common materials. It is a key ingredient of urban smog. The troposphere extends from the surface to about 10 miles (15 kilometers) above the surface. Ultraviolet radiation, or UV rays, can create a host of health issues, such as skin cancer, cataracts and immune system impairments, if UV exposure is too high. Ozone is also commonly used in mold remediation and as an effective means of odor control. In our modern technologically advanced society, man made activities have been depleting our ozone layer faster than ever. Personality Change And Age Difference Barbara Sarfo PSY 437 Advanced Research Method 07/20/2015 Personality Change and Age Difference Does the age difference have something to do with people change in their personality? A. Specific Aim The age an individual feels is related to changes in characteristic ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving over time. As people aged, they become more mature and they approach thing differently and that in a way has effects their personality either positively or negatively. The aim of the study was to find out if age difference has anything to do with personality change. B. Introduction Personality takes many shapes and forms and is affected by many factors. My understanding of personality is simply a genetic and environmentally determined set of psychological traits that influence our reactions in the world around us. Genetic because our parents possess a certain set of psychological personality traits that we tend to have in common with them so therefore in my opinion there are heritable personality traits. Personality is environmental because we each have our own separate experiences in the world and these experiences help form our unique personality. Neo Freudians such as Jung have given us a wide array of ideas of how they believe personality is developed and formatted. Jung in particular has a very interesting take on personality. It is this theory that I can most resonate with and apply to myself and even friends and family of mine. Current ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. John R Searle Can Computers Think Summary In Can Computers Think?, John R. Searle argues that strong artificial intelligence is false and therefore machines cannot think or exhibit understanding like a human mind. Strong AI claims that a correctly written program running on a machine functions as a mind and there are essentially no differences between the software exactly emulating the actions of the brain and the mental contents of a human. Searle uses a thought experiment called the Chinese Room Argument to argue against strong AI. Various objections, such as the Robot Reply, challenge Searle s argument by further testing the potential of a machine to possess understanding, intentionality, and subjectivity. In this essay, I will argue that Searle s argument against strong AI ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will explain two objections to Searle but conclude that the Robot Reply is a stronger objection. First, the System s Reply claims that the person in the Chinese Room does not implement the computer software. Rather, the person is only part of the machinery and the system as a whole implements the software. The System s Reply claims the larger system understands Chinese even if the person running the program does not. I assert that the person running the program can internalize the larger system and still cannot understand Chinese, that is, gain semantics from syntax. In comparison to the Systems Reply, the Robot Reply adds the capacity for casual interaction with the world. The Robot Reply concedes that Searle is correct that a computer trapped in a computer room could not understand the meaning of the language whose symbols it is manipulating. However, the Robot reply further claims that such a computer in a robot body, with the ability to move and interact with the world through sensors, could attach meaning to symbols and actually understand the language. While the Robot Reply is the strongest objection to the Chinese Room Argument, I oppose this objection to Searle s argument because the robot system continues to follow a computational set of rules that are established through its ... This statement holds truth for the result of the financial/banking crisis that occurred in 2008 because of many errors that were made unethically and eventually affected many other countries around the world and their living conditions. The documentary Inside Job 2010 directed by Charles Ferguson is without a doubt a very effective film documentary. It did an outstanding job of giving more insight on the banking crisis in 2008 and how it created a domino effect leading to global recession. In all honesty, this film did not shock me at all in terms of how corrupt the financial industry in the United States is. What I found humorous in this documentary, were the moments throughout the film where most of the important questions to be answered followed with the next screen that said ____ declined to be interviewed for this film . • 35. Cultural Capital As An Agent Of Change Essay When examining a family s history it is obvious that the many children have ended up with the same level of education as their parents and ancestors. Children whose parents received tertiary level education normally obtain a qualification from tertiary level education as well. This idea was first questioned by Pierre Bourdieu who introduced the concept of cultural capital. Cultural capital is the skills that a person can use to their advantage in a social situation, especially in education. While observing a classroom children were being dismissed because they did not speak the language, their low cultural capital impacted their learning immensely; however, in another classroom I observed the teacher being an agent of change. Striving to include every child in the lesson depict the diverse range of cultural capital present. These two different situations impacted when the child was present, how the children participated in class and their overall achievement. Cultural capital is the ideas and knowledge that people draw upon and use as an asset in social situations. As Lamont Lareau state the idea of cultural capital was introduced in the 1960s by Pierre Bourdieu, a French sociologist, anthropologist and philosopher. The concept was originally designed to explain why children from certain backgrounds would often repeat their family history in education (Lamont Lareau). Bourdieu tried to explain the social inequalities in education in during the 1960s in France. Children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
