How Tobacco Advertising Influences Young People.
How Tobacco Advertising Influences Young People.
At the age of fourteen, I had my first puff of smoke. Even before that I knew a lot of cigarette brands due to
advertising. Since then I started smoking and when I went to cafeterias and clubs the people who were promoting
cigarettes would offer me a new brand to try and gave me free packs of cigarettes and a lighter with their brand. They
didn t mind how old I was, they just wanted to give them away and promote their product. But except this kind of
advertisement, I had seen lots of tobacco advertisements on billboards which made me believe that everything is ok
if I smoke. This is a false impression that tobacco advertisements picture to teenagers. Tobacco advertisements
influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second reason why tobacco advertising attracting teenagers should be forbidden is the positive impression which
teenagers get from tobacco advertising.
When teenagers see a tobacco advertisement showing smokers who are pictured with lots of friends, they feel they
want to be cool or successful socially. This is how the advertisements play into the natural insecurities of young
people. Also when the teenagers see the Virginia Slims advertisements they get the impression that smoking will
make them beautiful and thinner. But this is not true, because it destroys the beauty. The tobacco companies use this
confusion that many young people think (KQED). The advertisements connect smoking with romantic relationships.
Because many people want to feel emotionally secure and physically attractive advertisements create a false
impression between smoking and finding the soul mate. Another way to advertise their product is to put healthy,
successful and thin role models to act in such a way to attract teens. A recent report from the
National Cancer Institute strongly suggests that tobacco advertising and the depiction of cigarette smoking in movies
can encourage teenagers to start smoking
(Hayes 1). Also Hausa film Industry stars glamorize the smoking of cigarettes and the rate of this glamorization is
very big. Young people imitate the actors

Religion In The Autobiography Of Miss Jane Pittman
Many people in today s world believe there is a higher power and practice a religion. Some exhibit true religious
behaviors of peace and kindness, whereas other individuals hurt innocent people, claiming that they did it in the
name of their deity. In The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, religion is a common theme. Jane practiced
Christianity like much of the south, but she was genuine in her religion. In an earlier part of the book when she and
Ned are trying to get to Ohio, they came across an ornery woman whom reluctantly served them water. She told them
that if she wasn t a God fearing Christian she d kill them because she hated them. Jane Pittman was more of a true
Christian than the ornery Christian woman because Jane worshiped God out of love, she was very accepting of
others, and she was able to bounce back from hard times.
Jane became a Christian during the later years of her life and she always felt that God was protecting and watching
over her. She believed He had sent Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson for the purpose of showing the world that skin
color doesn t matter. Jane was also a true Christian because she believed the message that God stood for. The ornery
Christian woman was God fearing because she wanted to kill the freed slaves, but since the Ten Commandments
state that killing is a sin and she didn t want to go to hell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If someone was rude to her she wouldn t retaliate with violence; she d ignore it. The ornery woman didn t commit
any violent acts physically, but she threatened Jane and Ned with death if they didn t move away from her fence.
Jane didn t care if someone was black or white or had a questionable past; in her eyes everyone was her equal. The
ornery Christian woman, like many white people residing in the Deep South, thought of African Americans as below
whites. She still looked down upon them and never saw them as her

Persuasive Essay On Mental Health
It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock fired upon a
concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further to 2011, Jared Lee Loughner
killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford (Moon 209). As more and more mass
shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such tragedies could be avoided by involuntarily committing the
perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary commitment, also known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can
order the mentally ill to get treatment against their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and
Salekin 325). By implementing a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the only criteria, the
U.S. can provide equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless off the streets, and prevent violent
situations.
Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking gibberish or a lady is
pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man commonly overlooked by the law and passerby
has the potential to be just like the average middle class person, working a steady job, having a family, and owning a
home of his own but is unfortunately held back by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment
due to having no family, money, and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less restrictive
involuntary commitment laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility at no cost, help them get
better, and start their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would provide housing
and proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren t able to get the help they need on their own. By eliminating
the worry of finding housing, a patient can focus more on getting better mentally and getting off the streets for good.
Supporters of the housing first method agree that once homeless people have a safe, stable place to live, it is easier to
get well and look for work ( Homelessness ). Involuntary commitment of the patient would allow a bed in a mental
health facility, routine care, and a healthy environment

Television as an Agent of Socialization
Television as an Agent of Socialization
I chose the first episode of the very popular television program The Event. I viewed the first episode on Netflix,
October 20, 2011. This program originally aired on NBC, September 10, 2010, and is titled I Haven t Told You
Everything . This program has a total of twenty two series to date and is classified as an action adventure drama.
After viewing a picture of the main characters with the synopsis of this program, I noticed immediately that this was
a male dominated show. The picture shows seven people standing together and merely two of the seven are female.
The premise of the story is about a man searching for his missing fiancé. The story line was a prime example of the
gender male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have their status titles which come along with expectations, but they are all conflicted with another issue that is
still a mystery during this episode.
This show represents men as the influential leaders in our society. The creators of this series opted to categorize all
the professions with male dominated characters emphasizing the glass ceiling effect. Consequently, the undertone of
this series reflected woman as the weaker less important of the two sexes. The women in this series for example were
waitresses, flight attendants, and news broadcasters. Even when the producers had a woman portrayed in the same
profession they gave the speaking role to the man. For example there is a man and a woman working at an
information desk on a ship, the main character automatically goes to the man while the woman is shown in the
background. Even the role of the staff of seven setting the tables for the president only consisted of one woman; in
this scene it would have been plausible to have more than one woman, since this is categorized as a woman gender
career.
The Event did not disappoint with my hypothesis that this was a heavily male dominated program. The content of
this show illustrates the social hierarchy and roles that men play in society. Subsequently, the major life events
change the direction and course of the actors and force them into new roles, norms and values with their characters.
I think that TV s powers of

Americans celebrate where there ethnic or cultural background as a nation of immigrants, there is mixed feelings
about immigration. Hirschman (2006) There is a strong belief for the continued economic growth. Immigration has
been a core of events of America. A dark part of American s in the past are continuing to blame another heritage

nation. During that era people didn t really know what illegal or legally meant because there weren t any laws in this

result, the Native Americans were wrong and had to be thrown off what they considered their land and had to move

belonged to someone else. Ehlich (2012) The image of Manifest Destiny was used to uphold the westward

Simulated Prison Experiment
A Study of Prisoners and Guards in a Simulated Prison Purpose Craig Haney, Curtis Banks and Philip Zimbardo are
the authors of A Study of Prisoners and Guards in a Simulated Prison and published the article in September 1973.
The purpose of the Zimbardo Stanford Prison Experiment was to grasp a greater knowledge of, the basic
psychological mechanisms of human aggression. (Haney, Banks, Zimbardo, 1973, pg. 1) Creating a simulated prison
environment did this. During this experiment, a greater understanding of the development in roles, labels, and social
expectations was identified. The researchers thought this topic should be studied to help determine and isolate the

(O Toole, 1996) However, the subjects did suffer and the guards were allowed to humiliate the prisoners, over an
extended period of time. Although the experiment was cut short a week earlier than planned, it shouldn t have began
without a full outline of what to expect. The subjects who were prisoners were given minimal explanation and details
as per what to expect, with minimal information being as inadequate as 3 small meals a day. The prisoners were only
allotted supervised bathroom visits, if they were earned, otherwise were not allowed to go. They were called girlies
and mocked by the prison guards, which in turn affected their need to have authority and power after the experiment
was terminated. Within real jails, inmates are allowed to have unsupervised bathroom visits, all while maintaining
security and safety and minimal invasion of privacy. (Bülow, 2014) The guards ethically and legally should not have
been able to treat the prisoners in such ways, as they took away their privacy and

Essay about Changing Times Depicted in Faulkner s The...
In The Sound and the Fury written by William Faulkner, Faulkner bases this story in theImaginary town of Jefferson,
Mississippi. The Compson s are a rich middle class family that has four children that seem to have problems with the
thought of letting time move forward. What the family seems to experience is the dividing of the family Quentin
Compson the eldest son of the Compson family that personifies all the key elements of insanity that seems to be
taken place in the imaginary town of Jefferson Mississippi, they once had high class and wealth. The Compson s
family in the beginning of their downfall is with Caddy The novel tends to gravitate towards the fact the time is

Quentin and Mr.Compson is the only two who do not adapt well to the fact that times are changing. Instead of
dealing with the fact that times are changing the both decide to take themselves out of the world because they can not
cope with the fact that times are changing. That what seems to be the struggle of the family is the fact that change is
in Caddy and she is the one that seems to divide the family and the old values verves the new southern values. Mr.
Compson says to Quentin I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you might forget it now and then
for a moment and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it. Because no battle is ever won he said. They are not
even fought. The field only reveals to man his own folly and despair, and victory is an illusion of philosophers and
fools. William Faulkner, The Sound and the Fury, June Second, 1910 What seems to be Quentin s downfall is the fact
that he is obsessed with time and trying to stop time from moving forward. Quentin wants to repress time and not let
it move forward.
In The Sound and the Fury edited by David Minzter : On The Sound and the Fury: Time in t the Work of Faulkner an

State of Racism and Gender Discrimination
State of Racism and Gender Discrimination
What is discrimination? Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of a different person or groups of people based on
certain characteristics. In the United States there are seven protected characteristics or classes that are defined by
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination Employment Act, and the American Disabilities Act
that can not be discriminated against: race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, and disability. This paper focuses
on two of the protected classes: race and gender discrimination.
What is racism? Racism (also known as discrimination against a race or races) is a belief that all members of one
racial group have superior characteristics or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These requirements are important to becoming a fire fighter and many argue that they are more than necessary.
However, this does not mean that the fire department does not want to work with women. It is just the policy to set
the standards high. Another interesting example: A male employee was fired by his employer because he refused to
work at night ( Small Business Encyclopedia 2002). This company had a policy saying that women did not have to
work at night because the company was located in a high crime area. The male employees had to work the night
shifts for the company, while the women employees did not. The male employee in question filed a suit under Title
VII against his employer claiming sexual discrimination. The company claimed that several female employees would
quit if they were forced to work at night. The company also claimed the policy was a bona fide occupational
qualification (BFOQ). This case is interesting because BFOQ can be used as a defense to allow certain
discrimination. BFOQ is an exception provided by Title VII for jobs that require a specific religion, sex, national
origin, or age as a reasonable necessity for normal operations of a business. Although BFOQ applies to the fire
department qualifications, the courts deemed that the company who asked only its male workers to take the night
shift was could not use BFOQ as a valid defense ( Small Business

My Leadership Philosophy Of The United States Air Force
The intention of this paper is to introduce my leadership philosophy. I will start off defining leadership as well as
explaining my leadership philosophy. I will then share a summary of an interview with a Squadron Commander
about a difficult situation that he needed to use his philosophy to work through and analyze how my philosophy
applies to the same situation followed by a brief summary.
There are numerous definitions of the word leadership and it can mean many things to many people. For the purpose
of this assignment I feel the best definition of leadership is ...the art and science of motivating, influencing, and
directing airmen to understand and accomplish the Air Force mission in joint warfare. 1 When taking over a new

I believe without integrity as the cornerstone in building any relationships, higher levels of productivity cannot be
obtained and ultimately with crumble. It is important for your people to trust that you have their interests and goals at
heart while also laying out clear expectations early on in your command and trusting, yet verifying all parties are
meeting expectations. Throughout my life and previous experiences I have witnessed firsthand how cohesive units
are when these values are incorporated into leadership philosophies and have also seen how detrimental it is to the
unit if they are not incorporated. An additional layer to integrity is that I would never ask of others what I would or
could not do myself. Nothing will alienate a follower quicker than a leader who is unwilling to work as hard as or
demonstrate that they are willing to get in the trenches with the people they are leading.
For my interview, I interviewed a peer who is a squadron commander at Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND4. He stated
his most challenging leadership issue came about early on in his command. Within the first six weeks of his
command, seven of his Airmen failed their PT tests. One of these failures was an Airman facing a medical evaluation
board due to several back surgeries. The commander states he was sympathetic to his situation but he had to remain
tough since it was

Discrimination, Policies, And The Gender Wage Gap
Discrimination, Policies, and The Gender Wage Gap For decades, the gender wage gap has been an ongoing issue in
Canada. Since then, women s rights have changed and allowed them to obtain career positions much like men.
Although women have successfully fought for their rights, the issues of the gender wage gap, and sexist stereotypes
continue in Canada. The Canadian Government needs to strengthen its discrimination policies so it can rectify and
allow for equal opportunity, support parental leave, and narrow the gender wage gap. Gender based stereotyping in
the workforce informs societal perceptions and assumptions of what is accepted as a typical male or female roles
within the workplace. Experts still disagree as to which variables inform each stereotype. One expert, Morley
Gunderson suggests that the difference in preference towards the chosen occupation is the key indicator, not gender
profiling (M. Baker, M. Drolet 2010). Another opinion is that women are more likely to pursue careers within health
and education sectors, whereas men are more inclined to pursue engineering and other related technological fields (J.
Cool, 2010). This shows a strong sense of gender bias, and harsh stereotyping of the gender roles in society. Both
men and women have a place within technological, and educational fields of work. Gender based stereotyping is also
present in the expectations of women outside of the workforce. Employers and executives may anticipate a

What Were The Pros Of The Vikings
By the Xth century the Vikings (also called Northmen ) used to raid one European monastery after another (Richards,
2005). The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much chaos. It was the source of fear and panic
among the European lords and Christians (Graham Campbell, 1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed
people, robbed the monasteries and vanished. They were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes.
Their actions were described as insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder seamen
(Graham Campbell, 1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us aware of the fact that their
raids on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. Due to that, a certain stereotype of their being wild, rude,
aggressive and destructive prevails in human history. They became notorious for being merciless barbarians, pirates,
ravagers and beasts. But were they really like that? To what extent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as well. (Short, 2010) Along with being good warriors and accomplished seamen, the Vikings were skillful jewelers
and sculptors (Graham Campbell, 1980). The Norse culture influenced much on the European art and language. For
instance, Irish architecture and sculpture is full of Viking ornaments and carvings, English vocabulary is full of

Magic And Divination And Magic In The African Magic
The African magic can be transferred through various medium and modes. Some magic is scarce while some exist on
a daily basis. Some magic is pronounced in physical ceremonies while some have become a routine. For instance,
words directed to a child by the parent and sometimes, community seniors are said to possess a lot of power. Words
can be used to curse bless, bring fortune, peace and success. Words spoken with anger or out of disappointment and
pain have the potential to cause curses and misfortunes. Sometimes people travel long distances and conduct
ceremonies to appease and seek atonement from their elders, parents and diviners. It is believed that formal blessing
is strong and so are the curses. As such people avoid doing things that would earn them such curses, for example,
disrespecting parent. People can receive divination or curses through magic and witchcraft in the African religion and
specialists are tasked to facilitate the process.
Divination and cursing through magic and witchcraft
With magic, mystical powers can give people the ability to walk on fire, send curses and lucky charms to people over
distances. Depending on the occasions and the task, practitioners can change their physical forms from a human body
to animals like snakes, or cats. Practitioners can cause one to lose their intellectual ability and even die by
performing some gestures like spitting on the person or touching them on certain parts of their body. Sometimes
magicians can convert

In this case, the employees compared themselves with a self inside situation, which is comparing their current
situation with it was before. They found their ration decreased because of income (effort paid) increase and outcome
(salary received) decrease. Since they regarded themselves as under rewarded, they took actions to reduce tension
and want to bring the situation back to normal. For example, symbolic protest was emerged. They started to work
according to the rules and refused an overtime work. Thus, this is one kind of illegitimate political behavior under
power in action.
Another problem faced by Cathay is the conflict between its management and employees. As mentioned above, the
ground crews perceived that the company has negatively affected their concerned working conditions. This conflict
may be resulted from poor communication between both parties, lack of openness of the company, and failure to
respond to employees needs. It is obvious that Cathay failed to respond to its crews needs. Many ground staff
complaint there is an increasing amount of work and overtime works. Cathay, however, did not notice the heavy
workload among the staff. Thus, there is felt conflict appears among the affected employees, who have negative
emotions, may create hostility, mistrust, and negative interpretation to the company.

Narrative Essay About A Masquerade Ball
Aahat Aahat Bloot! sounded the busy cars in Times Square, New York City. The clock struck twelve and the street

attire for the ball was different; I now wore a red dress that was clenching, tight with white stripes. I wandered

towards this building, so I followed behind the crowd. Immediately after we arrived in the building, the aroma of the
place was sickening. The room was filled with alcohol with a stench of marijuana; there were people unconscious on
the floor and some were throwing up. My mind was appalled at how unaware the people were to their surroundings.
Somehow I found myself in the kitchen of the place, they were handing out drinks and bottles. The back of my

Real Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird
Real courage is not abundant in the city of Maycomb, even though the people ostensibly believe so. They believe
that having courage is defined as aspiring to become strong or to become a warrior. The author, however, believes in
a different kind of courage that these people do not have. In To Kill a Mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee defines
courage not as being a hero or a warrior, but as regular people. What makes these regular people courageous is not
their physical bravery, but their mental bravery. The most prominent examples of courage are Atticus defending Tom,
Mrs. Dubose giving up her morphine addiction, and the jury member who believed that Tom was innocent.
One obvious example of courage in To Kill a Mockingbird is Atticus. On the main premise of the book, Atticus is ...

Dubose. Mrs Dubose, at first, just seemed like a bitter, resentful, and exasperated old lady. Later in the book, it
becomes known that this attitude and behavior is due to her drug addiction, in which she was addicted to morphine.
She said she was going to leave this world beholden to nothing and nobody. She just wanted to live the rest of her
life detached from her addiction, but this made her seem like the furious old lady she was. Her situation is
comparable to giving up smoking in today s world, which, as it is known, proves to be a difficult task to even the
utmost willful. To add to that, according to modern statistics, there is a lower chance of giving up smoking as people
get older. People who are addicted but give up their addiction dwell on the idea that they will never be happy again

The Impact of Macroeconomic Indicators on Operations and...
Select three macro economic indicators that you feel have the greatest impact on the operations and/or planning for
your SLP organization. Remember that an economic indicator measures a change in the general or in a specific
aspect of the economy and and you should be assessing how each macro economic change you have chosen affects
your company. Explain why they are important to the current or future condition of your organization. The Consumer
Price Index. Wanting to please consumers and positing that I intend to start a small business, I would like to know
the products that have the most current potential as well as promise potential in the future. The Consumer Price Index
(CPI) will give me that information since it uses a basket of goods approach that compares the monetary base of
products from year to year. There are really two presented CPI figures in the indicator: the CPI for Urban Wage
Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI W), the CPI for all Urban Consumers (CPI U) I would be interested in the latter.
It has its food and energy prices deducted and are usually presented with seasonal adjustment since consumer
patterns vary depending on the time of the year. (For instance, if opening my store in Winter I can possibly expect
less demand in soap given that people may use more soap in the summer time). The CPI is a thoroughly detailed
release with data for most major consumer groups (such as food and beverage, apparel, recreation, etc.) and

Persuasive Essay On Caged Rights
Caged Rights
Whether it was long ago in the glorious days of childhood or if it was a recent trip, the majority of us have gone to a
zoo at least once. As a child, no one seems to challenge the ethical dilemmas zoos put forth, but as one matures they
may start to call into question the ethics of zoos. Do zoos treat animals humanely? Some questions one should think
about are the zoo s breeding and conservation strategies that go on and the exhibits. Do they support the necessities
that animals require?
One well known positive impact zoos have in place are their breeding and conservation programs. These educational
and species saving programs have been able to bring numerous animals such as red wolves, black footed ferrets, and
California Condors back from the brink of extinction. Species Survival Plans (SSPs), which aim to manage the
breeding of specific endangered species in order to help maintain healthy and self sustaining populations that are
both genetically diverse and demographically stable (Traw), are a key factor in saving these species. So far, the
Association of Zoos and Aquariums has put in place over 100 SSPs. Without these plans in place, the Earth would be
missing an even larger amount of species. One of the main arguments zoo protestors have against captive breeding, is
that it creates a lack of diversity in the species genes; however, experts in this field are very knowledgeable about
creating diversity, and they have software that looks over the genetic

Narrative by Judith Ortiz Cofer Essay
The narrative written by Judith Ortiz Cofer discusses some of the many experiences she has encountered throughout
her life dealing with stereotypes and common misconceptions of Latin American women. To further engage her
audience in the story, she provides detailed past experiences that have stood out to her the most. In order for the
readers to fully understand those past encounters, some of which are cultural and common among Latinos, Cofer
explains them in careful detail. For example, Cofer explains the concept of piropos which are poems composed on
the spot by men to women as a form of admiration. This helps her introduce the audience to her own experiences
with piropos and how she has dealt with them throughout her life. One of the ... Show more content on

She knew how to dress for specific occasions such as a Sunday mass or a party, but this was a challenge. This shows
the audience that Latin girls dress the way they do because of their cultural background and something that is
considered acceptable in Latin America can differ from what is acceptable in North America. Cofer goes on to
discuss how the way Latin women dress can be misinterpreted as a come on to men when in fact, that usually isn t
the case because dressing that way is normal and even encouraged by Latin mothers. The point Cofer was trying to
display in her narrative was that the outward appearance of Latin women should not be mistaken with who they are
but rather be considered as part of their culture. This narrative describes a cultural clash between America s
mainstream views and opinions and Latin women who have to struggle with these stereotypes from a young age.
Career Day is one of the examples in which Cofer experienced falling under one of those stereotypes and feeling like
an outcast when the nuns at her school displayed the Latin girls as the negative models of Career Day. Cofer s strong
opinions against these stereotypes is made clear throughout the story as she explains random instances she
remembers of how others view Latin girls and how the media often objectifies women comparing them to Hot

Bone Marrow Syndrome In Chernobyl
On April 27th, exactly 30 years ago, the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine, played forth as we know it today.
Many believe the fault and cause of the accident had many results. (Burlakova, Elena B.) Many elements played a
part in this great nuclear disaster that lead to multiple deaths, many long term health effects in humans and wildlife,
and ultimately still causing issues to this day. On the afternoon of April 26th, the staffs of the Chernobyl nuclear
plant were about to do testing on the fourth unit of the nuclear facility, and ultimately the unit that caused the
destruction of the plant. They were testing safety features of certain hardware to see if the system could run for a
minute in the catastrophic event of total power failure. (Leatherbarrow) The purpose of the pumps and steam turbine
system that was being tested was to keep the reactor having cool water flow to the core continuously. Without a
constant water flow to cool the core, the reactor itself would ultimately melt down. The pumps that direct the flow of
the cooling water run on the electricity that the plant produced itself; so in a case of a ... Show more content on

Mathematics Of The Math For Educators
The fraction lesson that we worked on in class has given me a deeper understanding of fractions that I did not have
before. Fractions have never been a topic of math that I have took a liking to. They have intimidated me for as long
as I can remember. I did not imagine in my wildest dreams that there was going to come a day that I could
understand fractions. Being enrolled in the math for educators course has contributed significally to this newfound
understanding. This class has taught me a lot of valuable knowledge on how you can make fractions easy and at the
same time fun for yourself and the students you are trying to teach. I learned that fractions can estimated, they could
either be close to almost nothing or zero, close to one half, close to one, and more than one. Based on that
conclusion, students can easily figure out which fractions are bigger, smaller or equal to each other. There was an
example provided in class that talked about Irene eating pizza everyday and having to frequently call in to tell her
doctor how much she had eaten that day. Irene figured out that instead of telling him the exact amount, she would
give him an estimate. There was a magnetic circle on the board with removal able pieces, from here Dr. Math took
away and added pieces in multiple ways and would ask if it was close to nothing, close to 0, close to ½, or close to 1.
This helped me visualize and understand what she was trying to teach us on a deeper level. We also learned that

You should start grooming your dog as a puppy so as to make it used to the exercise and this will make it easier for
you to groom it and make it more comfortable when its being groomed.
I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and that it helps you to get the impression you want from your dog. Dogs need to

The Ulysses Mission Essay
The Ulysses spacecraft was first and only spacecraft designed and lunched to study the Sun from outside the lower
solar latitudes. All other space craft that studied the Sun stayed along the same elliptical plane that the Earth is on.
The spacecraft was part of a joint venture between NASA and the ESA. Originally planed as a two spacecraft
mission called the International Solar Polar Mission, it was scaled down to one probe due to NASA cutbacks in
funding. This resulted in the ESA designing the spacecraft and NASA lunching it from Space Shuttle Discovery in
1990.
The Spacecraft then flew to Jupiter in two years. It used Jupiter s gravity to increase its speed and alter its orbit

Its mission was extended to allow for a third and final approved to the Polar Regions. The last orbit happened in
2008 and by 2009 all communication ended with the probe.
The spacecraft was launched from Discovery and it proceeded to Jupiter under power from Boeing and McDonnell
Douglas rockets. The main body of the space craft was almost a cubic meter in size and was powered by a
radioisotope thermoelectric generator. The radioisotope thermoelectric generator converts energy from the heat
generated from radioactive decay to electrical energy for the spacecraft to use. It used hydrazine for its source of fuel
used in course corrections. Two beryllium copper antennas perpendicular to the radioisotope thermoelectric generator
reached out seventy two meters. A third antenna was along the spin axis opposite of the dish. The last side of the
spacecraft contained a experiment boom that had instruments to collect X ray data from solar flares. The boom also
contained two magnetometers. On the main body of the spacecraft it also contained detectors for various particles
and subatomic particles.
The Ulysses was one of NASA s and ESA s longest lasting missions, lasting over nineteen years. It was able to
record data from the polar regains of the Sun and thanks to extending the original mission three times the original
amount it was able to do that three times and is still the only spacecraft that has done that.

Sustainable Improvements Of The Uk
Sustainable Improvements
The UK has thousands of beautiful period properties that were constructed from brick and timber with minimal
insulation, and as a result produce high carbon emissions. As a government department will occupy the property it
should serve as an example to the public of how such wonderful period properties can be made sustainable without
impacting their historical and visual appearances. In order to make this property more energy efficient, sustainable
and in accordance with government legislation, a number of improvements can be made.
Since the property is located in the Fleet Street Conservation Area in the City of London, the following
improvements may require planning permission:
a) Hybrid solar panels by Naked Energy where both photovoltaic and thermal energy outputs are combined. The
benefit is reduced installation time and cost while maximizing the usable installation area . This would also include
replacing the whole heating and water system. To ensure planning permission is approved the solar panels should not
be easily visible from the street.
b) Windows should be replaced with double glazed windows which resemble the existing windows
A number of additional energy saving improvements can be made that do not require planning permission:
a) External wall insulation is not possible due to the property being in a conservation area, however insulation can be
achieved internally on walls and floors, i.e. by using aerogel and by adding

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow epitomized poetry of the nineteenth century, yet remained living, breathing figure

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine then still part of

Zilpah Wadsworth, found herself the daughter of a Revolutionary War hero. His father, Stephen
Longfellow, served a prominent Portland lawyer and later a member of Congress.Henry assumed the role of a

Such poems find themselves to invigorate the nineteenth century, according to hwlongfellow.org. Both books were

Longfellow s growing duties as a professor left him little time to write more. In addition, Frances
Appleton, a young woman from Boston he was courting, had refused his proposal of marriage.
Frances finally accepted his proposal the following spring, bringing in the best eighteen years of
Longfellow s life. The couple had six children, five of whom lived to adulthood, and the marriage gave him a fighting
spirit. In 1847, he published Evangeline, a book length poem about Evangeline, which describes the betrothal of a
fictional Acadian girl named Evangeline Bellefontaine to her beloved, Gabriel
Lajeunesse, and their separation as the British deport the Acadians from Acadie in the Great
Upheaval. The poem then follows Evangeline across the landscapes of America as she spends years in a search for
him, at some times being near to Gabriel without realizing he was near.
Finally, she settles in Philadelphia and, as an old woman, works as a Sister of Mercy among the poor. While tending
the dying during an epidemic, she finds Gabriel among the sick, and he sadly dies in her arms .The poem had a
powerful effect in defining both Acadian history and identity in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Even to the

Literary Devices InThe Sound Of Thunder, By Ray Bradbury
Watch Out! As they fight for their survival. In the short story, The Sound of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury, is about a
man going into a time machine to hunt a T Rex. He was traveling along with his other companions through the time
machine to meet the T Rex. They ended up encountering many obstacles as they re on their journey. Although people
don t pay attention to what they re doing even if it s the smallest things, it can lead up to a consequence as shown in
literary devices such as; simile, metaphor, and repetition.
At first, Bradbury uses simile as a way to illustrate a comparison of unlike things reflecting to the character s actions.
Simile is an expression comparing one thing to another using the words, like, or as. In the short story, Eckels and the
company travelled back 60 millions years ago. Travis warned everyone to not step off the path, and began to talk
consistently about the consequences if you would step off the path. As Travis was talking about the consequences, it
was brought up that if you step on a mouse, and you leave your print, like a Grand Canyon, across Eternity
(Bradbury, 22). This shows us that Travis said this, but meant that if you make any changes in the past, even the
smallest ones, it can result into something disastrous in the future. It compares the effects of stepping on a mouse to
that at the Grand Canyon, which shows the resemblance. This is one of the many similes used, but another
comparing literary device is used as well in the

a parent to do is educate their son or daughter on those topics and teach them to respect their bodies. If an accident

Pros And Cons Of Bernie Sanders
Why should we vote for Bernie Sanders? Bernie Sanders was born on September 8, 1941, in New York. He grew up
in Brooklyn as the younger of two sons of Jewish immigrants from Poland. Bernie Sanders started out his political
career as the mayor of Burlington, Vermont in the early 80 s. In 2007, Sanders won election to the U.S. Senate and
was reelected in 2012. In April 2015, Bernie Sanders announced his plans to run for the Democratic presidential
nomination. Being the underdog, Bernie Sanders is not afraid to challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic
presidential nomination. Bernie Sanders says People should not underestimate me (Bernie Sanders 2016). As a
veteran independent, he has defeated Democrats and Republicans candidate. According to Sally Kohn Sanders is still
holding on and showed last weekend that he can keep racking up wins. He brings ... Show more content on

And his campaign is, I think rightly, pushing super delegates to retract their anti democratic support for Hillary
Clinton and instead side with the voters in their states (Sally Kohn, CNN Political Commentator 2016).Bernie
Sanders should be the next president because he supports our education by making tuition free at public colleges and
universities, lower student loan

Observation Essay The Barbershop
Immediately I recognized that things were different, as I struggled to find a parking spot in the tiny lot hidden just off
of the highway. The barbershop is located in an area too small to be considered a strip mall and apparently too small
to handle all of its customers vehicles. It is the third in a row of three shops, although the first, a former ice
cream/water ice business, was for rent. I knew that all of the drivers of the automobiles in the lot were in the
barbershop, as the repair shop next to it does not open until 9 A.M. Apparently all Saturday mornings here begin with
such a full parking lot. Once I found a parking spot, I was ready to begin my observation of the U.S. Male Men s

A tiny television with a screen approximately six inches high, located in the middle of the four barbers stations, was
displaying CNN, but the sound was turned down. When the razors stopped buzzing, the classic rock radio station
seemed to blare through the quiet. Despite the open door, the air conditioner was moaning softly in the background.
I took this opportunity to examine my surroundings. To the right of the opened front door was a gumball machine
and a green leafy plant. The counter in front of the door seemed to have no immediate purpose, except to hold
another leafy plant and some additional magazines that were strewn about it. Above the chairs where I was sitting
was a mirror, which I presume is used by the nervous customer who wants to keep an eye on the way in which the
barber cuts his hair. Another wall sectioned off an area from the four barbers stations, which I knew to be the owner s
workspace. His station basically was set up as were the others, but he had more room in which to work. There was
one sink on the opposite side of his wall for use in case a customer wanted a premium cut, which includes a shampoo
and conditioning wash or a color treatment. In the corner, between the sink and the fourth barber s station, was the
ATM, conveniently located next to the cash register. This is practical because the barbershop only accepts cash for
payment.

Analyze The Values Of American Society
The following paper with analyze the values of American society and prove there are more disadvantages than
advantages to a high degree of agreement on these values. A large amount of agreement on most of the values
considered American could be detrimental to the country and as an international power. Most American values
revolve around accomplishment and fulfilling a goal. Materialism, efficiency, demanding work, and competition are
all values considered the focus of most Americans. Materialism is the end goal; by working efficiently and beating
the competition, one can acquire all the possessions they want. In lesser amounts, these values can push a nation
forward economically. however, at the scale America utilizes these values, resources are wasted, foreign relations are
strained, and many within the country are left struggling. Capitalism is moral and practical as it leaves the individual
free to think rationally and act productively to sustain one s life and experience happiness on earth. In
macroeconomic terms, capitalism is the best system available and the system America has always used. When
looking at individual communities and families struggling to simply make ends meet, it is easy to question why the
government will not set in and help its own people. When America was smaller and agriculturally focused,
capitalism worked for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a utopian society, everyone agrees on the values they wish to uphold, but as communism, fascism, and Marxism
have taught the world, utopia is unrealistic. In George Orwell s novel, 1984, the nation of Oceania holds the same
values and expectations for every citizen. Any widespread agreement on what values a nation should uphold lead to
an extremely restricted range of thought and ideas for the people of that nation. If America were to hold its values as
universal, the country would lose the very thing that makes it

4 Cranial Nerves Lab
Introduction:
The purpose of this experiment is to evaluate the 4 cranial nerves that are used for vision and eye movement based
on their functions by performing several tests. With that being said, there are 12 cranial nerves in the body. The first
cranial nerve is known as Olfactory Nerve I. This nerve is used for smell. Next, is the nerve that is used for vision
and that is Optic Nerve II. The third cranial nerve is the Oculomotor Nerve III, which allows movement of the eye in
several directions including up, down, up and inward. In addition, this nerve controls the pupil. Next, is the Trochlear
Nerve IV. This nerve moves the eyes in a down and inward movement. The next nerve is responsible for the sensory

The patient is instructed to tell the doctor when he/she can see the pen light while looking forward.
The opthmalogist will then record the data and ask the patient to remain covering their right eye. The doctor will then
place the penlight about the patients head and ask them to tell him/her when he/she sees the penlight.
The doctor will do the same thing and place the penlight in the lower quadrant of the patients body and ask him/her
to state when the light is seen.
The doctor will go through the same steps, but with the left eye is covered now.
Results will be recorded.
The Oculomotor Nerve III is tested. This nerve allows the eyes to have certain movements as well as controls the
pupils.

Essay on Kabuki and Bunraku Art
As we know, Japanese culture is ancient, rich and assorted. It is considered a millennium culture, with lots of
traditions and beliefs that make it very attractive. These traditions and beliefs are expressed, among other ways,
through the performing arts, as: theatre, cinema, ballet, dance, etc. which somehow express the identity of the
Japanese people. Within these performing arts we can find to BUNRAKU and KABUKI which belong to this kind of
art, but they are two expressions very different from each other.
Concerning the set in scene, Bunraku consists in puppets which are handled each one by three people, who are
behind the puppets and move them with the right hand from one side to another on the stage. In contrast, in Kabuki

There are lots of attempts, on the wife s side, to get along with her husband. But everything ends up in a negative
way, with the suicide of the husband. On the other hand, Kabuki #180;s plot point out the relationship between
parents and children, about the problem that exist when parents ignore to their children and don t give them the
attention that the children need. This is represented by a fox which is obsessed with a drum. We can see a beautiful
woman knocking this drum and ignoring the presence of the fox. Unlike Bunraku, Kabuki has a happy end, where
parents and children achieve to be in touch.
Concerning the training of the actors; in Bunraku they have to have, at least, ten years of experience in the
management of the puppets. This is the reason of the skill in the so natural movements of these puppets that amaze to
everybody. To reach this purpose, these actors have to practice around three hours per day. On the other hand, Kabuki
requires from the actors a physical training, a kind of circus training, because they have to make many jumps from
different places on the stage. To do this, they have to have a balanced diet, low in calories. The practice of the
exercises must be at least four days per week.
Both Bunraku and Kabuky make use of the voice resource, so the actors have to create a voice and a way of speak
for every character; but in Bunraku there are only human characters, in the case of Kabuki, the

  • 2. How Tobacco Advertising Influences Young People. How Tobacco Advertising Influences Young People. At the age of fourteen, I had my first puff of smoke. Even before that I knew a lot of cigarette brands due to advertising. Since then I started smoking and when I went to cafeterias and clubs the people who were promoting cigarettes would offer me a new brand to try and gave me free packs of cigarettes and a lighter with their brand. They didn t mind how old I was, they just wanted to give them away and promote their product. But except this kind of advertisement, I had seen lots of tobacco advertisements on billboards which made me believe that everything is ok if I smoke. This is a false impression that tobacco advertisements picture to teenagers. Tobacco advertisements influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second reason why tobacco advertising attracting teenagers should be forbidden is the positive impression which teenagers get from tobacco advertising. When teenagers see a tobacco advertisement showing smokers who are pictured with lots of friends, they feel they want to be cool or successful socially. This is how the advertisements play into the natural insecurities of young people. Also when the teenagers see the Virginia Slims advertisements they get the impression that smoking will make them beautiful and thinner. But this is not true, because it destroys the beauty. The tobacco companies use this confusion that many young people think (KQED). The advertisements connect smoking with romantic relationships. Because many people want to feel emotionally secure and physically attractive advertisements create a false impression between smoking and finding the soul mate. Another way to advertise their product is to put healthy, successful and thin role models to act in such a way to attract teens. A recent report from the National Cancer Institute strongly suggests that tobacco advertising and the depiction of cigarette smoking in movies can encourage teenagers to start smoking (Hayes 1). Also Hausa film Industry stars glamorize the smoking of cigarettes and the rate of this glamorization is very big. Young people imitate the actors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Religion In The Autobiography Of Miss Jane Pittman Many people in today s world believe there is a higher power and practice a religion. Some exhibit true religious behaviors of peace and kindness, whereas other individuals hurt innocent people, claiming that they did it in the name of their deity. In The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, religion is a common theme. Jane practiced Christianity like much of the south, but she was genuine in her religion. In an earlier part of the book when she and Ned are trying to get to Ohio, they came across an ornery woman whom reluctantly served them water. She told them that if she wasn t a God fearing Christian she d kill them because she hated them. Jane Pittman was more of a true Christian than the ornery Christian woman because Jane worshiped God out of love, she was very accepting of others, and she was able to bounce back from hard times. Jane became a Christian during the later years of her life and she always felt that God was protecting and watching over her. She believed He had sent Joe Louis and Jackie Robinson for the purpose of showing the world that skin color doesn t matter. Jane was also a true Christian because she believed the message that God stood for. The ornery Christian woman was God fearing because she wanted to kill the freed slaves, but since the Ten Commandments state that killing is a sin and she didn t want to go to hell, ... • 4. Persuasive Essay On Mental Health It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock fired upon a concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further to 2011, Jared Lee Loughner killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford (Moon 209). As more and more mass shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such tragedies could be avoided by involuntarily committing the perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary commitment, also known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can order the mentally ill to get treatment against their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and Salekin 325). By implementing a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the only criteria, the U.S. can provide equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless off the streets, and prevent violent situations. Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking gibberish or a lady is pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man commonly overlooked by the law and passerby has the potential to be just like the average middle class person, working a steady job, having a family, and owning a home of his own but is unfortunately held back by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment due to having no family, money, and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility at no cost, help them get better, and start their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would provide housing and proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren t able to get the help they need on their own. By eliminating the worry of finding housing, a patient can focus more on getting better mentally and getting off the streets for good. Supporters of the housing first method agree that once homeless people have a safe, stable place to live, it is easier to get well and look for work ( Homelessness ). Involuntary commitment of the patient would allow a bed in a mental health facility, routine care, and a healthy environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I viewed the first episode on Netflix, October 20, 2011. This program originally aired on NBC, September 10, 2010, and is titled I Haven t Told You Everything . This program has a total of twenty two series to date and is classified as an action adventure drama. After viewing a picture of the main characters with the synopsis of this program, I noticed immediately that this was a male dominated show. They have their status titles which come along with expectations, but they are all conflicted with another issue that is still a mystery during this episode. This show represents men as the influential leaders in our society. The creators of this series opted to categorize all the professions with male dominated characters emphasizing the glass ceiling effect. Consequently, the undertone of this series reflected woman as the weaker less important of the two sexes. The women in this series for example were waitresses, flight attendants, and news broadcasters. Even when the producers had a woman portrayed in the same profession they gave the speaking role to the man. For example there is a man and a woman working at an information desk on a ship, the main character automatically goes to the man while the woman is shown in the background. Even the role of the staff of seven setting the tables for the president only consisted of one woman; in this scene it would have been plausible to have more than one woman, since this is categorized as a woman gender career. The Event did not disappoint with my hypothesis that this was a heavily male dominated program. The content of this show illustrates the social hierarchy and roles that men play in society. Subsequently, the major life events change the direction and course of the actors and force them into new roles, norms and values with their characters. I think that TV s powers of ... These requirements are important to becoming a fire fighter and many argue that they are more than necessary. However, this does not mean that the fire department does not want to work with women. It is just the policy to set the standards high. Another interesting example: A male employee was fired by his employer because he refused to work at night ( Small Business Encyclopedia 2002). This company had a policy saying that women did not have to work at night because the company was located in a high crime area. The male employees had to work the night shifts for the company, while the women employees did not. The male employee in question filed a suit under Title VII against his employer claiming sexual discrimination. The company claimed that several female employees would quit if they were forced to work at night. The company also claimed the policy was a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ). This case is interesting because BFOQ can be used as a defense to allow certain discrimination. BFOQ is an exception provided by Title VII for jobs that require a specific religion, sex, national origin, or age as a reasonable necessity for normal operations of a business. Although BFOQ applies to the fire department qualifications, the courts deemed that the company who asked only its male workers to take the night shift was could not use BFOQ as a valid defense ( Small Business ... Throughout my life and previous experiences I have witnessed firsthand how cohesive units are when these values are incorporated into leadership philosophies and have also seen how detrimental it is to the unit if they are not incorporated. An additional layer to integrity is that I would never ask of others what I would or could not do myself. • 11. Discrimination, Policies, And The Gender Wage Gap Discrimination, Policies, and The Gender Wage Gap For decades, the gender wage gap has been an ongoing issue in Canada. Since then, women s rights have changed and allowed them to obtain career positions much like men. Although women have successfully fought for their rights, the issues of the gender wage gap, and sexist stereotypes continue in Canada. The Canadian Government needs to strengthen its discrimination policies so it can rectify and allow for equal opportunity, support parental leave, and narrow the gender wage gap. Gender based stereotyping in the workforce informs societal perceptions and assumptions of what is accepted as a typical male or female roles within the workplace. Experts still disagree as to which variables inform each stereotype. One expert, Morley Gunderson suggests that the difference in preference towards the chosen occupation is the key indicator, not gender profiling (M. Baker, M. Drolet 2010). Another opinion is that women are more likely to pursue careers within health and education sectors, whereas men are more inclined to pursue engineering and other related technological fields (J. Cool, 2010). This shows a strong sense of gender bias, and harsh stereotyping of the gender roles in society. Both men and women have a place within technological, and educational fields of work. The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much chaos. It was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham Campbell, 1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and vanished. They were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions were described as insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder seamen (Graham Campbell, 1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us aware of the fact that their raids on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. For instance, words directed to a child by the parent and sometimes, community seniors are said to possess a lot of power. Words can be used to curse bless, bring fortune, peace and success. Words spoken with anger or out of disappointment and pain have the potential to cause curses and misfortunes. Sometimes people travel long distances and conduct ceremonies to appease and seek atonement from their elders, parents and diviners. To add to that, according to modern statistics, there is a lower chance of giving up smoking as people get older. Select three macro economic indicators that you feel have the greatest impact on the operations and/or planning for your SLP organization. Remember that an economic indicator measures a change in the general or in a specific aspect of the economy and and you should be assessing how each macro economic change you have chosen affects your company. Explain why they are important to the current or future condition of your organization. The Consumer Price Index. Wanting to please consumers and positing that I intend to start a small business, I would like to know the products that have the most current potential as well as promise potential in the future. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) will give me that information since it uses a basket of goods approach that compares the monetary base of products from year to year. There are really two presented CPI figures in the indicator: the CPI for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI W), the CPI for all Urban Consumers (CPI U) I would be interested in the latter. It has its food and energy prices deducted and are usually presented with seasonal adjustment since consumer patterns vary depending on the time of the year. (For instance, if opening my store in Winter I can possibly expect less demand in soap given that people may use more soap in the summer time). • 21. Persuasive Essay On Caged Rights Caged Rights Whether it was long ago in the glorious days of childhood or if it was a recent trip, the majority of us have gone to a zoo at least once. As a child, no one seems to challenge the ethical dilemmas zoos put forth, but as one matures they may start to call into question the ethics of zoos. Do zoos treat animals humanely? Some questions one should think about are the zoo s breeding and conservation strategies that go on and the exhibits. Do they support the necessities that animals require? One well known positive impact zoos have in place are their breeding and conservation programs. These educational and species saving programs have been able to bring numerous animals such as red wolves, black footed ferrets, and California Condors back from the brink of extinction. Species Survival Plans (SSPs), which aim to manage the breeding of specific endangered species in order to help maintain healthy and self sustaining populations that are both genetically diverse and demographically stable (Traw), are a key factor in saving these species. So far, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums has put in place over 100 SSPs. Without these plans in place, the Earth would be missing an even larger amount of species. One of the main arguments zoo protestors have against captive breeding, is that it creates a lack of diversity in the species genes; however, experts in this field are very knowledgeable about creating diversity, and they have software that looks over the genetic ... Narrative by Judith Ortiz Cofer Essay The narrative written by Judith Ortiz Cofer discusses some of the many experiences she has encountered throughout her life dealing with stereotypes and common misconceptions of Latin American women. To further engage her audience in the story, she provides detailed past experiences that have stood out to her the most. In order for the readers to fully understand those past encounters, some of which are cultural and common among Latinos, Cofer explains them in careful detail. For example, Cofer explains the concept of piropos which are poems composed on the spot by men to women as a form of admiration. She knew how to dress for specific occasions such as a Sunday mass or a party, but this was a challenge. This shows the audience that Latin girls dress the way they do because of their cultural background and something that is considered acceptable in Latin America can differ from what is acceptable in North America. Cofer goes on to discuss how the way Latin women dress can be misinterpreted as a come on to men when in fact, that usually isn t the case because dressing that way is normal and even encouraged by Latin mothers. The point Cofer was trying to display in her narrative was that the outward appearance of Latin women should not be mistaken with who they are but rather be considered as part of their culture. This narrative describes a cultural clash between America s mainstream views and opinions and Latin women who have to struggle with these stereotypes from a young age. Career Day is one of the examples in which Cofer experienced falling under one of those stereotypes and feeling like an outcast when the nuns at her school displayed the Latin girls as the negative models of Career Day. Cofer s strong opinions against these stereotypes is made clear throughout the story as she explains random instances she remembers of how others view Latin girls and how the media often objectifies women comparing them to Hot Tamales and other offensive ... Fractions have never been a topic of math that I have took a liking to. They have intimidated me for as long as I can remember. I did not imagine in my wildest dreams that there was going to come a day that I could understand fractions. Being enrolled in the math for educators course has contributed significally to this newfound understanding. This class has taught me a lot of valuable knowledge on how you can make fractions easy and at the same time fun for yourself and the students you are trying to teach. I learned that fractions can estimated, they could either be close to almost nothing or zero, close to one half, close to one, and more than one. Based on that conclusion, students can easily figure out which fractions are bigger, smaller or equal to each other. There was an example provided in class that talked about Irene eating pizza everyday and having to frequently call in to tell her doctor how much she had eaten that day. Irene figured out that instead of telling him the exact amount, she would give him an estimate. There was a magnetic circle on the board with removal able pieces, from here Dr. Math took away and added pieces in multiple ways and would ask if it was close to nothing, close to 0, close to ½, or close to 1. This helped me visualize and understand what she was trying to teach us on a deeper level. We also learned that when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main body of the space craft was almost a cubic meter in size and was powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator. The radioisotope thermoelectric generator converts energy from the heat generated from radioactive decay to electrical energy for the spacecraft to use. It used hydrazine for its source of fuel used in course corrections. Two beryllium copper antennas perpendicular to the radioisotope thermoelectric generator reached out seventy two meters. Although people don t pay attention to what they re doing even if it s the smallest things, it can lead up to a consequence as shown in literary devices such as; simile, metaphor, and repetition. At first, Bradbury uses simile as a way to illustrate a comparison of unlike things reflecting to the character s actions. Simile is an expression comparing one thing to another using the words, like, or as. In the short story, Eckels and the company travelled back 60 millions years ago. • 40. Observation Essay Observation Essay The Barbershop Immediately I recognized that things were different, as I struggled to find a parking spot in the tiny lot hidden just off of the highway. The barbershop is located in an area too small to be considered a strip mall and apparently too small to handle all of its customers vehicles. It is the third in a row of three shops, although the first, a former ice cream/water ice business, was for rent. I knew that all of the drivers of the automobiles in the lot were in the barbershop, as the repair shop next to it does not open until 9 A.M. Apparently all Saturday mornings here begin with such a full parking lot. Once I found a parking spot, I was ready to begin my observation of the U.S. Male Men s Hair ... A tiny television with a screen approximately six inches high, located in the middle of the four barbers stations, was displaying CNN, but the sound was turned down. When the razors stopped buzzing, the classic rock radio station seemed to blare through the quiet. Despite the open door, the air conditioner was moaning softly in the background. I took this opportunity to examine my surroundings. To the right of the opened front door was a gumball machine and a green leafy plant. The counter in front of the door seemed to have no immediate purpose, except to hold another leafy plant and some additional magazines that were strewn about it. Above the chairs where I was sitting was a mirror, which I presume is used by the nervous customer who wants to keep an eye on the way in which the barber cuts his hair. Another wall sectioned off an area from the four barbers stations, which I knew to be the owner s workspace. His station basically was set up as were the others, but he had more room in which to work. There was one sink on the opposite side of his wall for use in case a customer wanted a premium cut, which includes a shampoo and conditioning wash or a color treatment. In the corner, between the sink and the fourth barber s station, was the ATM, conveniently located next to the cash register. This is practical because the barbershop only accepts cash for payment. Analyze The Values Of American Society The following paper with analyze the values of American society and prove there are more disadvantages than advantages to a high degree of agreement on these values. A large amount of agreement on most of the values considered American could be detrimental to the country and as an international power. Most American values revolve around accomplishment and fulfilling a goal. Materialism, efficiency, demanding work, and competition are all values considered the focus of most Americans. Materialism is the end goal; by working efficiently and beating the competition, one can acquire all the possessions they want. In lesser amounts, these values can push a nation forward economically. however, at the scale America utilizes these values, resources are wasted, foreign relations are strained, and many within the country are left struggling. Capitalism is moral and practical as it leaves the individual free to think rationally and act productively to sustain one s life and experience happiness on earth. In macroeconomic terms, capitalism is the best system available and the system America has always used. When looking at individual communities and families struggling to simply make ends meet, it is easy to question why the government will not set in and help its own people. When America was smaller and agriculturally focused, capitalism worked for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a utopian society, everyone agrees on the values they wish to uphold, but as communism, fascism, and Marxism have taught the world, utopia is unrealistic. In George Orwell s novel, 1984, the nation of Oceania holds the same values and expectations for every citizen. Any widespread agreement on what values a nation should uphold lead to an extremely restricted range of thought and ideas for the people of that nation. If America were to hold its values as universal, the country would lose the very thing that makes it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
