History of Delicious Spaghetti
Spaghetti can be eaten most successfully if you inhale it like a vacuum cleaner. Sophia Loren.
Spaghetti is one of the most popular meals at restaurants and, even in our homes. It isn t as simple as it
seems, there are many forms, an odd amount of nutritional benefits, and it has a complex history.
Spaghetti is the plural form of the Italian word spaghetts, which is a diminutive of spago meaning thin
string or twine (www.allaboutspaghetti.com). Spaghetto, a single noodle, has helped to form our
society from the Neolithic age until today. It has transformed shape, size, has lost and gained
popularity, but it has always been. The history of pasta dates back to as early as when the first humans
began harvesting wheat. The first mention of it was from a Roman chef, Apicius, in the first century
A.D. He had called the pasta ribbons (www.exanitier.com). This led historians to believe that this was
the first written reference of spaghetti. In later centuries, there were references of pasta making
equipment used by the Etruscans. The next written record of pasta was mentioned in Italy during the
12th century by Guglielmo diMalavalle, who called the pasta macaroni. In the 14th century, sailors
would use pasta for their meals because it was easy to store and, it didn t spoil. By the 16th century,
pasta was a luxurious type of food. Only the wealthy people ate it because the durum wheat required
to make spaghetti was hard to ground harvest efficiently. In the early 17th

Dealing With Repeat, Criminal Offenders, And The Justice...
Dealing with repeat, criminal offenders, has become a hot topic issue in the corrections community, as
well as the justice system as a whole. Society demands to be protected from the criminal element, and
rightly so, but how do we identify the career criminals, and keep them from harming others? Even
though a small number of career criminals were responsible for the majority of the crimes being
committed in the country, it was not until the mid 1980s that selective incapacitation began to be used
(Mays Winfree, 2009). One of the assumptions, concerning career criminals, is that here is no way to
reform them. These offenders will continually commit criminal acts as long as they are not
incarcerated. To keep these career criminals locked away, many states began passing laws to identify,
and incarcerate them for mandatory lengths of time. By the mid 1980s, and the early 1990s, states
began passing habitual offenders statutes, which in effect, identified repeat offenders in the justice
system, and sentencing them to long, mandatory prison sentences, up to, and including life in prison
without parole (Mays Winfree, 2009). These statutes are known as the three strikes laws. The meaning
behind this is that if an offender, who has been convicted three times for criminal offenses, is
incapable of reforming, and therefore should be incarcerated, and kept away from the rest of society.
In principle, this may sound like a great idea, and a great way to keep society safe,

Knee Injury Summary
Summary of Article
This article begins with explain how even though volleyball is a non contact sport, it holds a very high
risk of injury. The most frequent way injuries occur are because of poor landing techniques. Women
are more prone to these types of injuries because biologically they have weaker ligaments. The second
most common injuries are injuries to the ankle. Researchers have said that the best way to reduce
injuries is by practicing appropriate postural control. Postural control is also linked with balance.
Balance one of the main components of knee injury. Volleyball, basketball, and other active athletes
have not developed proper posture to land safely, causing many injuries to the knee and ankles.
Point of Agreement
I agree that there has to be some reason for non contact athletes, like volleyball players, are injuring
themselves. It makes sense that the injury is caused by a poor development of proper posture. With
anything in sports, it is important to develop proper form and technique to both execute the skill and
be safe while playing. Many athletes, even professional, have a hard time with proper technique. They
think they know everything about the game but forget the basics and end up injuring themselves.
Point of Disagreement
As much as it is probably true, I would have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It does a good job explaining that every injury has a cause of what happened. I like how it talked about
how something as simple as landing posture can be a huge cause in major injuries across many sports,
including volleyball. I think that these findings can help encourage coaches of all sport train their
athletes of proper form for both sport specific tactics and non sport specific tactics. Injuries while
doing something as simple as running or jumping continue to happen and we cannot assume anything
will change unless we are coached

Analyzing Paul Zaentz s Film Amadeus
The 1984 film, Amadeus, was produced by Paul Zaentz and directed by Milos Forman. There are
many actors in this film; although, the two main actors are F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce.
Viewing Amadeus allows one to become better acquainted with the life, times, and music of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart. This report will describe some of the film s outstanding themes and features.
The setting, as well as the fashion of this film was upscale, meaning that everything was detailed and
had an expensive look to it. The walls were not simply just a color with a picture on them, they
incorporated elegant, detailed work. The outfits of all of the actors were very elaborate; they all had

was a very talented musician; he used many features in each piece of music he composed, leading to

How Did Ancient Egyptomania Affect The Modern World
Egyptomania; the expression used to encompass the West s complete allure with the wonders and
mysteries of the Ancient Egyptian world. Part of this fascination stems from unconscious
acknowledgement of a civilization that produced a highly functioning society, government, economy,
art, and religion that permeates the world today, that contrasts with the engrained ethnocentricity of
Western societies. Inquest into the mysteries of the land have sprung up from Hellenistic times, to the
Renaissance, to the Age of Napoleon and even to the interest sparked by the recovery of the Boy King
s (Tutankhamun) tomb in the 1920s.
Ancient Egypt has not only effected the modern world with periods of captivation but by providing a

The study of ancient Egypt is critical in understanding these developments and institutions as they
concern modern society. The insight the Egyptian political environment provides is instrumental in the
study and analysis of a variety of foundations in politics, society, modern governments and recent

innate captivation with the way society subconsciously sees how Egypt plays a role in the present.
Egypt is beautiful because the mysteries of the ancient world are evident in not just the movies of
Hollywood but the politics, economy, society, art and architecture that resides in the everyday lives of

Comparing The Battle Of East Berlin And West Germany After...
After World War II ended with the defeat of Nazty Germany and the victory of the Allied Powers,
conflicts aroused for Germany s territory. Leaders from the allied powers United States, France, and
United Kingdom; and the Soviet Union, the four powers divided Germany into four occupation zones
for equality purposes. This division was approved at the Potsdam Conference in 1944 the United
States, United Kingdom and Soviet Union had agreed on the zones. The Allied Powers occupied west
Germany, while the Soviet Union ruled east Germany. Also, the capital of Germany, Berlin lied in the
center of east Germany so they divided that into four zones.Later on, France and the United Kingdom

History on the War on Drugs Essay

October 26, 2010
History of the War on Drugs The war on drugs has been an ongoing fight that many presidents and
foreign allegiances have tried to stop the trafficking, distribution and use of illegal drugs into the
United States and around the world. Policy and laws have been created and maintained and changed to
try and prevent illegal drugs being made in other countries as well as the United States and from being
brought across the borders into the United States. The punishment for the drug traffickers and users
has been an issue with the campaign to stop illegal drug use and trafficking. Through the United States
history the president s and their administration have been focusing on how to deal with the war on

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) was initiated in schools all over the United States in 1983
to inform students about the effects drugs cause and to make children and their parents more aware of
the drug problem in the U.S. (Frontline). Under Reagan, the federal prison population doubled. Young
offenders and non violent drug users were sent to Special Alternative Incarceration boot camps, where
they were brainwashed with yet more anti drug propaganda, to undermine their subversive attitudes.
The President declared the War on Drugs to be one of the major achievements of his administration,
while the international narcotics trade thrived and cannabis prices sky rocketed. Then in July 1984, the
Washington Times published a story about DEA informant Barry Seal s infiltration of the Medellin
cartel s operation in Panama. The story showed that Nicaraguan Sandinistas were involved in the drug
trade. As a result of Seal s evidence, a Miami federal grand jury indicts Carlos Lehder, Pablo Escobar,
Jorge Ochoa and Jose Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha. In February 1986, Seal is killed in Baton Rouge,
LA., by a gunmen hired by the cartel (The Washington Times). For the first time Colombia extradites
the drug traffickers to the U.S. in 1985. Then the U.S. officials discover that the Medellin cartel has a
hit list which included embassy members and their families, U.S. businessmen and journalists (NPR).

My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Love Analysis
True Love
(A Discussion on Robert Browning s My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover.)
Robert Browning wrote many amazing dramatic monologues during his time in the 1800 s. The
English poet Robert Browning (1812 1889) is best known for his dramatic monologues. By vividly
portraying a central character against a social background, these poems probed complex human
motives in a variety of historical periods (Gale). Browning was super influential with his monologues
during the Victorian period and even still today. Several of Browning s work are about love. Two of
his most notable love monologues was My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover. Browning s two
monologues My Last Duchess and Porphyria s lover share several similarities, but also differ severely.
In Browning s readings My last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover share several similarities. Both the
men in these monologues kill the women they are supposed to love. The main part of these
monologues is the men killing their wives. Both kill their wives because they are both jealous men,
who want complete control over the woman. They feel as if the women should be their property, and
only theirs. Another Similarity of these monologues is they are wrote in the man s point of view, and
not the women. Both poems show a similarity because they are both narrated from the male lover s
point of view. As a result, the reader becomes more closely involved in the poems and can feel very
strong emotions for the individuals

The Colonial Settlements
An extremely important era in the history of America was the Colonial Settlements. During this time
Spain had most of the control of the recently founded land in America and controlled many ports
along the coast. Although Spain controlled most of the land, they were only looking for resources as
was France. The English were also in the New World but they were focused more on establishing
settlements than exploiting new resources. The English s first settlement failed at Roanoke Island. The
next settlement was the colony at Jamestown, Virginia and it became known as one of the first
permanent settlements in America, ran by John Smith. This colony was sponsored by the Virginia
Company of London which was composed of a group of investors. The

Having trustingly moored his ship under the weapons of the Algerine post, Bainbridge had minimal

The Issues Of Financial Reform Within The Un,...
The issues of Financial Reform within the UN, peacekeeping, and the Veto power are all interrelated.
Veto countries abuse the powers they are given by refusing to pay, or contributing little to the UN and
allowing the weaker countries to do the dirty work. Peace Keeping is, perhaps, The most important of
the UN’s duties. But without the funds and equipment of the veto countries Peacekeeping forces will
become only a memory. The main problem facing the UN, despite the issues with Veto powers,
Peacekeeping, and the Americans, is the organization s financial situation. It has been forced to begin
a lengthy restructuring to make it more cost effective due to the lack of funds it is encountering. In a
recent UN report entitled, “Renewing the United Nations: A Programme for Reform” the UN
officials began to address this problem. The report outlined the course which will be taken in order to
balance the budget. Since the organization itself is completely reliant upon the money it receives from
it’s members it is almost helpless in its hopes to move forward. The only way of punishing members
who do not pay is to kick them out of the organization and cut off the benefits they receive. The
current financial reform of the UN is very complex. It will involve, for the most part, cuts in
employee’s and an increased efficiency from it’s four departments. These departments being Peace
and Security; Economic and Social Affairs; Development Co operation; and Humanitarian Affairs.

David Malouf s Remembering Babylon And William Golding s...
David Malouf s Remembering Babylon and William Golding s The Inheritors both explore and
criticise violent and discriminatory human nature through various techniques. Remembering Babylon
takes place in 19th Century Queensland following a young British man, Gemmy Fairley, who was
thrown overboard a ship and has grown up with aboriginals for sixteen years, and his relationship with
the new settlers. The Inheritors follows a journey of a peaceful Neanderthal tribe who are slowly
facing extinction due to the violent nature of the coexisting humans, kidnapping and murdering. Both
novels have criticised the impacts of human nature, how humans has developed and detached
themselves from nature and been drawn to violence and discrimination. Malouf and Golding employ a
range of literary techniques to express these ideas.
Malouf and Golding s narrative perspectives vary to portray a unique perspective on the issues of
human nature. Malouf writes in third person omniscient with a narrator, however changes the focus to
specific characters throughout each chapter, becoming third person limited. This allows readers to
understand the mind set of the settlers surrounding Gemmy s arrival however for the perspective to
remain unbiased. This helps display issues of human nature in an unprejudiced way as Ned Corcoran,
resident of the settlement Gemmy is brought to, thought that Gemmy was trading on the residents
goodwill (39) rather than having a positive influence on the settlement. This

Upgrade U Analysis
For this week s discussion post, I decided to pick Upgrade U by Beyoncé to compare with the dance
performed by the Les Twins. But first I want to explain the cultural of Hip Hop and Jazz, and why it
took a long time to be accepted in the United States. Jazz was one of the earliest genres performed by
African American s and white people did not accept it during the time. But as the 1940 s came around
Jazz grew into something big and was widely accepted in the America. The videos we viewed this
show so much culture and value because originally these dances originated from African and it
resembles the same type of moves as some traditional African dances. That is why I picked Upgrade U
, even though Hip Hop was originated in New York, they still have resemblances from African
Dances.
The movements in Upgrade U by Beyoncé can be described as flexible, sudden, and direct. The
fluidity that these performers have when dancing is unbelievable, and also the coordination that
everyone has. In my opinion Hip Hop can be described as a cultural expression through the beat of the
music. The reason why is because, if you go back to the African Dances the beat is what ... Show more

to the community that Hip Hop can loathed, but it is always going to prosper for many individuals.
Hip Hop originated in New York and it can be said that these moves definitely shows their origin. I
think that these dances are a great representation of their culture, even though things are changing in
this new era, true Hip Hop dancers will stay true to the origins of

Into The Wild By Chris Mccandless
Into the Wild details the events that lead to the death of the pretentious Chris McCandless. An
overconfident vagabond, McCandless causes his own death. Krakauer does his best to turn
McCandless into a sympathetic, relatable figure, by appealing to the reader s logic and emotion, but
ultimately fails. By exploring McCandless personality and background, Krakauer makes an appeal to
logos. From the very start, Krakauer states Alaska has long been a magnet for dreamers and misfits...

way he evade[s] the impending threat of human intimacy sets him apart from the common friendship

A frugal introvert such as McCandless should be perfectly suited to a life in the wild. The ability to
lead a spartan lifestyle is something to be admired, but McCandless does not come across as
admirable. Rather, he is spoiled and obstinate. The fact he had $24,000 of college money to donate
upon graduating, money which was given to him by a family friend no less, shows that McCandless
could not have lead a truly sparse life. There was no fear of a next meal or a lack of a roof overhead.
Anything he wanted, McCandless had access to. His refusal to give gifts comes across as selfish and
ostentation. McCandless letter encouraging Franz to find joy in travel rather than personal
relationships demonstrates his self righteousness. By putting his lifestyle of choice on a pedestal,
McCandless shows just how little regard he holds for the beliefs of others. McCandless holds the
ideals of a young man squirming to get away from the wealth of his parents, but rather than use
compassion to atone for his privilege, he becomes jaded and cuts off positive interaction with those he
should be able to rely on. Krakauer does his best to make McCandless past justify his trek into the
wild, but succeeds only in making McCandless look like a brat. Krakauer appeals to pathos by
revealing how those close to McCandless mourned his death. McCandless filled a hole in Ronald A.

The Importance Of Cultural Imperialism
The Kiowa are a Native American people who have been greatly impacted by cultural imperialism.
They were forced to adapt to western culture, and in this many of the Kiowa people were converted to
Christianity. Christianity is said to be a very important aspect of many Native American cultures still
today, but the way in which Christianity is portrayed and practiced in such societies, including that of
the Kiowa, stays true to both the religion itself and their Native practices. The Kiowa are said to have
kiowanized Christianity. The Kiowa version of Christianity is said to differ from the white man s way.
This means that they believe in God, integrate their culture and lifestyles into Christianity, and they
also relay the importance of their religion in a different manner. They use their native language in their
hymns, and these hymns are comprised primarily of those elements that pertain directly to Kiowa
culture. In the text Lassiter states, Kiowa hymns give life to a unique Kiowa experience, preserve the
language, and affirm and ongoing (and continually unfolding) Kiowa spirituality. This reveals the
effectiveness and importance of the integration of Christianity and native Kiowa practices. Language
has been a central focus of anthropological interest for many reasons. List three reasons and discuss
why they are important. Think about language in broad or general anthropological sense when

The Pros And Cons Of Red Meat
Secret. For the longest, a hot topic debate has always been that regular consumption of red meat was
healthy. A video titled What is Veganism to think we have such a thing called a slaughterhouse. Where
people are employed to grave an animal, to use electric prods to force it where they want, to jam bolts
in their heads, to slice their throats, hang them from chains and watch them die as blood drops out of

awful way of treating and feeding their livestock, people are finding alternatives to the meat these
horrific places produce. The ways the factories maintain their livestock has resulted in the
development of cancer to those who consume their products. To those dairy addict s, milk, cheeses,
and yogurt are not an exception. Meat consumers should be vegans because it will benefit their lives
and be cruelty free. The amount of torture put animals through is something that can be avoided.
People who constantly consume meat are running in a dark room unaware of the serious consequences
of consuming animal flesh. These people need to stop this tyranny by throwing away all the food in
their fridge that comes from an animal and switch to a vegan diet. Every time people consume
processed meat, they are putting carcinogens in their body, which results in serious health
complication. A recent study that states that there is limited evidence that the consumption of

Personal Reflection Of The Pain Management On 2B
I have been taken care of 4 patients towards the end of my time on 2B. I think I handled it well. It can
be challenging sometimes. For example, I had to discharge one patient by 10am. And the staff meeting
for my newly admitted patient was around the same time. Besides, one of my patients approached me
to have PRNs, the forth patient also requested a shave. On 2B, shaving has to be supervised by staff.
All my patients needed me at once. I learned to ask help from other RNs and delegate appropriate
tasks to NA in order to get things done on time. Sometimes, we don t have enough help. I had to
prioritize my tasks and patients needs. Of course, I offer my help to my fellow RNs when they re busy.
I had completed blood draws for others many times (11).
The pain management on 2B is quite different. (7) This is because many of the common non
pharmacological interventions are considered unsafe due to the high suicide risk in our patient
population. There is no heat or cold pad due to the toxic chemical contents. K pad is also not available
due to the long tubings for risk of strangulation. Aromatherapy is also out of picture. I often feel
limited when my patients ask me for pain interventions as there are not as many options available as in
other units. Fortunately, there are organized group activities offered by OT daily on 2B. They mainly
focus on relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness practices. I encourage my patients to participate in
those groups, and practice those

Key Features Of The Public Expenditure Structure In Cambodia
Public expenditure structure in Cambodia
Key Features of the expenditure system
The expenditure system in Cambodia has three main features. It s important to emphasize that more
information is needed to be certain about whether the following expenditure trends continue today.
First, the country has been running a deficit for a long time due to higher growth rate of expenditures
than revenues. Second, the country has dropped significantly their investment in rural development
and agriculture, which affects the country s growth because it s overwhelmingly rural. Lastly, the
transport expenditures have also decreased substantially. If the country had better transport
infrastructure, the government could raise their revenues that come from public services. Additionally,
without proper transport infrastructure there is a loss of potential tourism destinations, and reduced
competitiveness in market accessibility due to high access costs to commodities.
Budget Deficit
Cambodia budget s deficit has remained relatively flat between 2000 and 2017 (estimated). In 2000,
the deficit was 4.8% of GDP and in 2017 the deficit is estimated to be 4.5% of GDP, excluding grants.
The country s expenditures have grown at faster rate than its revenues. In the year 2000, Cambodia
expenditures represented 15% of GDP while the estimation for the year 2017 is 22% of GDP, 7
percentage points more than in 2000.
We need data leading up to the year 2017 to be more certain about the reasons of the

Poverty In Africa Essay
Project Kwanele
Although Africa is the second largest continent, one can say poverty is an ever present situation
(Abebe and Quaicoe, 2014). Largely due to historical background, social inequalities are the
foundation of poverty in Africa. The continent has, for decades, been viewed as the epitome of
poverty, with many countries plagued by unemployment, malnutrition, lack of education and limited
access to healthcare. The difficulty with this is that poverty then becomes a viscous cycle, passed on
from generation to generation, and thus hindering development of these countries. With several
countries having gained independence, the development of African countries has been on a steady
escalation, even being viewed as a potential for investment by global investors. However it takes more
than a change in governance to correct the wrongs of years of social injustices. Abebe and Quaicoe
(2014) found that policies in these countries have a major impact on poverty. And this is the reason
why policies (particularly those addressing social development) need to be well drafted and well
executed to ensure that wealth is evenly distributed, in order to minimise the gap between the rich and
the poor.
Over and above impeding economic growth, poverty may have detrimental effects that can threaten
the survival of a population. An impoverished community lacks nutritious food that is supposed to
strengthen one s body to be able to fight off infections and other diseases. The State of Food

How Did Fahrenheit 451 Impact My Life
Today I read books like no tomorrow and I learn quite a lot from them. I never knew books could
reflect your life or even share experiences that other people might feel or have been through. It all
began in high school, my second year of school and my class was beginning a new book called
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. After reading the book, I learned it is explicit in its warnings and
moral lessons aimed at the present. I could not care less about the world but after reading Fahrenheit
451, I became more aware of the world now. Another book that inspired me to read more was called
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, learning about how we should not forget the fundamentals of
what makes human a human. These kinds of books impacted my life to

Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad
Xenia is an obligatory, socially regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god fearing
hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When welcomed in
to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably this then transitions to the
food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of
a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel. It
is the recipient s responsibility to treat the host with respect, as they are visitors. I assert that xenia has
a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory because respect is the foundation of xenia;
these effects can be seen throughout The Iliad and The Odyssey, particularly in the interactions of ...

Spoils were an important part of war during the time of The Iliad, and could be items of value or

(Homer The Iliad 1.24 32). Agamemnon s refusal itself did not violate xenia, but his disrespect of
Chryses did: Agamemnon was not pleased And dismissed Chryses with a rough speech: Don t ever let
me catch you, old man, by these ships again, Sulking around now or sneaking back later. The god s
staff and ribbons won t save you next time. (Homer The Iliad 1.33 37). As Chryses was a priest of
Apollo, he beseeched Apollo to seek revenge against Agamemnon and the Greeks. Apollo answered
his prayer and decimated the Greeks with a plague (Homer, The Iliad, 1.45 51, 61 62). The plague was
a consequence of Agamemnon s brash reaction to Chryses peaceful solicitation for the return of his

Don Pablo Escobar Thesis
Imagine being hated and loved by so many people, running from police, killing people that got in your
way, and taking control of your hometown; that s exactly what Don Pablo or Pablo Escobar did. He
was a drug lord who, at his height of his career, smuggled more than eighty percent of the cocaine into
America. Escobar was born December 1, 1949 in Rionegro, Colombia. Although he was born into a
lower class family, he would grow to become on of the riches men in the world during his time,
according to Forbes. Young Escobar would get his start in the streets by stealing tombstones and

He ordered the assassination of presidential candidates and was even rumored to be behind the 1985
attack on the Supreme Court, carried out by the 19th of April insurrectionist movement in which
several Supreme Court Justices were killed (Pablo Escobar Biography). This easily shows how he is a
villain because he went against the government which he is a part of. Even though he has been against
the government and lashing back at the government pretty much his whole life but this is the biggest
thing he has done to go against them. Although it isn t one hundred percent sure that he exactly did
this, it wouldn t be a surprise because he was a ruthless person and knew that he could easily get away
with this. Just like the other bombing and the killings he has done. The bombings made him even
more of a villain because he would go that far to bomb something. He does what he has to do, but
when it comes to bombing and killing several of the Supreme Court, that might be a little too far. But
it did show the power that he had and shows how much of a villain. He can almost compare him to V
from V for Vendetta. V would go around killing people and bombing important government buildings
to get his point across. Maybe even to show his power, minus the smuggling of drugs across borders
of course. But they both wanted to show how they were villains and would both end the same

Book Review over Washington s Spies Essay
The Truth About Washington s Spies
Madeline Carlson America s first spy ring, better known as the Cupler ring, was Washington s
carefully thought out solution to gain intelligence on the overpowering British troops. The revolution
was happening; there was no turning back and no denying that America was going to gain
independence from Great Britain. Washington needed a plan, a way to foresee what the British
planned to do next. Washington s only solution was to resort to spying. Washington desperately
needed to gain intelligence of General William Howe s next plan of attack, however there were few
who wanted to risk partaking in such a dishonorable task as spying. Hale was the first, and most well
known, of the many spies to scout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tales show anything from the exciting tales of close encounters to the invisible ink and coded
messages to the life of deception Washington s spies embraced. Rose not only reveals the exciting
tales of danger, but also shows how the deceptive spies and Washington gained mutual trust through
the difficult situations.
Rose s thesis statement declared how honor affected the spies who were a part of the Culper ring. He
first mentioned honor in the first chapter, quoting Nathan Hale, Spying, he agreed, was not an
honorable undertaking, but if the exigencies of my country demand a peculiar service its claims to
perform that service are imperious. The spying game was not considered gentlemen s work, for the
title spy was dishonorable in itself. Throughout the book, Rose proved his thesis by mentioning how it
affected each of the members described in his book along with some internal conflict they had about
it. Rose concluded the book with an epilogue sharing how each of the spies lived their lives after the
war was over, and how many could return to their normal lives without the criticism of partaking in
Washington s dishonorable tasks.
Rose s tales evaluated how the individuals themselves, in a way, altered history. Each individual in the
Culper ring motivated history and altered what could have been in some way. Whether Nathan Hale s
death made him a revolutionary hero, or Benjamin Tallmadge s idea of the Culper ring each

Pleasing Films for Historians and Mainstream Audiences
The transition from historical information to cinema is often a dangerous and controversial road, few
films are able to consistently please both historians and mainstream audiences. The topic of Sino
Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of film. Films
such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the Doorstep, The
Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek to investigate this
turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different perspectives involved.
Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever hope to achieve the detailed
work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding of some of the most chaotic
periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than 100 million people from thirty
different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human history. How can anyone make sense of
that on paper other than listing the number of casualties? Film, deeply aware of its limitations has
become a different form of understanding the past, capable of taking a particular event such as war
and exploring universal themes. Historian Natalie Zemon Davis states that: Historians want to
chronicle what happened, to be sure, but also to explain why it happened and what difference it
made...Although there is an inevitable dialogue between the past and the present, the

My Father Is A Hero Or Villain Essay
My Father: Hero or Villain? A stranger once questioned my thirteen year old self, Would you rather
live an easy life or an interesting life? and in the moment without hesitation to think about it, I
responded an easy life. Ever since I was able to realize right from wrong, my immature mind always
struggled understanding why bad things happen to good people and why our world can t be at peace.
Or why must my body react anxiously? Or why my parents are divorced? Now, only God has the
answers to all these questions. However, God simply wants YOU to figure out the obstacles on your
own that appear throughout your growth. As I looked up with my arms wide open asking Uppie
uppie? ..my father says Okay EB, one last time as he picked me up and held me, I noticed his gestures.
Ever since I was young, I ve always had the power of observing and memorizing what surrounded me.
Then, it hit me. The strange characteristics my father held. His aggressive temper, the impatient OCD,
the odd jokes directed at my mother, the constant blaming as if he never made mistakes. Twas the
night time that I dreaded the most. His time to shine . His enjoyment was down in the basement
watching either football or baseball and through the thin walls I could hear that snap of a beer can
opening. Every single night. I was about eleven years old when I finally connected the dots. Those
dots meant everything but also meant nothing. My father is an alcoholic. At this developing age, I

Examples Of Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Defining who you are is always such an arduous task. I never know what to say and I always draw a
blank when I m put on the spot. I never know what to say because I never really put too much thought
into defining myself. It s usually just something that you don t think about too much because honestly
it s pretty difficult. Luckily there are theories that propose many ideas that help me define myself.
Theories such as the Symbolic Interaction theory, cognitive dissonance theory, expectancy violations
theory, and temperament. These four theories are each very different but they can all be used to help
define who a person is. They propose reasoning and thought behind the ways we behave,
communicate, and feel. What we might think to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cognitive dissonance can formally be defined as feeling of discomfort resulting from inconsistent
attitudes, thoughts and behaviors, ( Communication 90). We will have a feeling of discomfort if new
informations doesn t fit with what we already know and we will take many steps to reduce it (
Communication 90). We do this mainly because we seek psychological consistencies and that feeling
of discomfort can lead us to changing our attitudes and behaviors ( Communication 93). For example,
when we try and keep dissonance from happening we will either ignore the different views that are
presented, change either our views or the other person s views depending on the situation, or trying to
reassure ourselves after making a big decision ( Communication 92). Dissonance also comes in
different forms of impact. We will take into account how severe the situation is before making a final
decision, or the magnitude of the situation ( Communication 94). The magnitude is how much
dissonance is felt ( Communication 94). We take the account of magnitude in by looking at
importance, ratio, and rationale of the situation ( Communication 94 95). Importance is how
significant we see the situation to be (95). The last two parts are ratio, the dissonant cognitions
compared to the consonant cognitions, and rationale which is what we decide the reason behind the
dissonance is ( Communication 95). With the cognitive dissonance theory there are different ways in
which we can perceive information and that help us reduce dissonance ( Communication 96). The four
perception types are selective exposure, selective attention, selective interpretation, and selective
retention ( Communication 96). The first perception is selective exposure which can be defined as
looking at the information the we want to ( Communication 96). The

Columbus found native people whom relied on farming crops such as tobacco, cassava, maize and
yams. Diego Velasquez seized Cuba in 1511 and developed many plantations throughout the country.
The native people of Cuba, whom lacked resistance to evils of the world, fell ill to many European
diseases. Early in the 1500s the Spanish started smuggling slaves into the borders of Cuba.
By the late 1800s, Cuba had begun to prosper through farming and exporting of sugar cane. Much of
this success was due to the large amount of slaves living on the plantations. The 19th century brought
about the movement for independence. In 1868, a landowner, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, set his
slaves free causing the start of the Ten Years War. That war ended in failure in 1878. By 1886 slavery
was brought to an end across Cuba.
The year 1895 records the Second War of Independence. The United States of America found itself at

A peace treaty was written that forced Spain to surrender their claim on Cuba. The United States
occupied Cuba for four years after that war. The US departed Cuba in 1902, with the assumption that
Cuba was an independent country however in actuality Cuba found itself subjugated by the USA.

Analysis
When Henry Ford first developed the idea of the
assembly line he was heralded as one of the most forward
thinking men of his time, and without the assembly line we
would no doubt not be as powerful a nation as we are today.
The assembly line principle as it matured in industrial
society however, proved to destroy workers creativity and
stifle the very essence of human life. Growth and change.
On an assembly line workers are degraded to automatons,
performing the same tasks over and over and over. Day in day
out, without ever having any knowledge or input into any of
the other tasks related to completion of the project. This
monotony in the workplace spills over into the daily life of
many factory workers and affects how they live their life
outside of the factory after the whistle blows as much as it
does while they’re on the assembly line. This spillover was
observed by Hamper of his Grandfather. “Straight home from
work, dinner, the evening news and immediately into bed at
7:00 p.m. He arose each weekday at 3:30 a.m., fixed himself
some black coffee, turned on the kitchen radio, smoked a
handful of Lucky Strikes and waited to leave for work at a
quarter to five. This regimen never varied one iota in the
forty years he worked for GM” (Hamper pg.6). It is fairly
clear that the monotony of the assembly line has a way of

Arguments Against Christianity
In this paper, I will argue against Christianity being a rational religion because it holds beliefs which
are irrational and lack sufficient evidence. First, I will state this position on the premise of words from
the Apostles Creed. Second, I will argue that belief in things that humankind does not understand is
not a cause for disbelief, rather belief is required for the things humankind does not understand.
Lastly, I will respond that belief in the things we do not understand is flawed when argued by a
Christian, because the Christian view of humankind s sinful nature does not allow for humankind to
define flawlessly what is rational or irrational to believe. All of this means that Christianity is not itself
a rational religion, although there may still be a rational religion.
The beliefs of Christianity such as the virgin birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ are irrational and
lack sufficient evidence. The Apostles Creed reads, I believe in Jesus Christ... ...born of the Virgin
Mary... ...On the third day he rose again. First off, from science, hard truth, we know that human
beings always have forty six chromosomes (excluding diseases). Each human being received twenty
three chromosomes from their mother and twenty three chromosomes from their father. The virgin
birth requires us to believe that Jesus Christ had no father, yet still had forty six chromosomes. To
believe in the virgin birth is irrational, because a virgin birth is impossible. Second off, the
resurrection of

What Is Listening To Your Voice
Listening to Your Voice
How many of us actually listens to the person we are having a conversation with? Really listen? Not
just to the actual words that they are saying but also to the hidden language that is often referred to as
body language .
Listening this is an active process. It involves the use of many of our senses not just hearing the
obvious one. What tone of voice are they using? What expressions are on their face? What are the
surroundings like in which the conversation is taking place? A place of peace or a place of conflict?
How many individuals are in the room? Is the conversation in person or taking place virtually? What
are the ages of the individuals? What is the relationship like between the individuals or the group who
are talking? All of these factors and many others will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conversation must have a goal a purpose for the meeting to occur. Do you know what the agenda
is? Is it a spontaneous conversation? Your physical body may be in the location that you are having the
conversation in, but where is your mind? To really listen to, the mind and the body must be both
present in the same location.
Listening to your... Now this is the core of the conversation. We need to listen to someone else. We
need to have a dialogue and not a monologue. Too often we are not really listening to the other person
but formulating our own ideas in our mind. Listening is an unselfish act, as we are putting the needs of
another person above our own. We are letting them know that they truly matter; that we value their
time and ideas, which they are sharing with us. In an ideal situation we will both benefit from the
conversation.
Listening to your voice. When we think about these words we automatically think about the vocal
voice. What about the unspoken voice? The communication that takes place between individuals with
looks, gestures, specific habits? The use of Sign Languages? The use of the Morse code? Do these not

Public Health Paper
From past to present; the changing focus of public health by Maria Joyce
Key sections include:
Environment, infectious disease, locating public health, the enlightenment, the Sanitarians, national
provision of services, the inception of the National Health Service, crisis in health , The New Right,
The Third Way, new public health.
Public health, the new ideology may be taken to mean the promotion of healthy lifestyles linked to
behaviour and individual responsibility supported by government action; whereas traditionally the
description tended to relate more to sanitary reform and healthy conditions . The chronological
development of public health is mapped out, supported by the outlining and discussion of the
emerging themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The onus on notification of infectious disease is still seen today in the Control of Disease Act 1984
and the Regulation of the Infectious Diseases 1988. This may have positive benefits to public health,
limiting illnesses such as food poisoning and rapid identification of outbreaks of bacterial meningitis,
measles and other illnesses through prompt notification and medical or environmental intervention.
The role of social conscience however and its manifestation in social control may have been
responsible for dividing communities through encouraging individuals to report their apparently ill
neighbours.
Locating public health
The tradition of public health and inherent understanding of the term, dates back as early as pre
Christian times, classified in five periods or bodies of thought: The Graeco Roman period with
emphasis on water and sanitation, the Medieval emphasis on epidemics, the Enlightenment emphasis
on disease prevalence, the Industrialisation emphasis on working conditions and Modern era emphasis
on bacteriology and virology (Rosen 1993 cited in Costello and Haggart

My Personal Goals Essay
As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these
goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy tale like, we tend to see life through a rose colored
glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals
tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing,
tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals.
There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals
I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal.
First, my family goals include how I see myself and how I see my ... Show more content on

I have planned monthly individual date nights with my children, so that they can have my undivided
attention for a certain period of time.
The second family short term goal takes into account my marriage. In order to raise happy and healthy
children, a happy and healthy relationship with one s spouse is paramount. In order to achieve this
goal my husband and I have decided to also dedicate more time for the two of us. For the next year we
have made an agreement to take at least one vacation together, so that we may increase the bond that
brought us together. We have also decided that for the next three year we will spend Holidays as a
family so that we may create our own family traditions, we will do whatever is in our power to spend
Holidays together, that includes not working or making other plans with the rest of our immediate
families.
On many occasions my personal goals have come before my professional aspirations. A career in the
medical field has always been something I have looked forward to. As a child I wanted and dreamed
of being a doctor, however due to the choices I made in life and the priorities that I had not thought of,
I have come to realize that my childhood dream may not come true. Yet, I was able to compromise and
make short and long term goals that will lead me into a career in the medical field. My long term goal
is to enter the medical field world and be a respected contributor to it. I want to be able to help others
in the time of need. In

Regina s Flour Shoppe
This rustic pie takes all the great qualities from a regular pie: A browned pastry crust plus a gooey fruit
filling minus all the fuss thanks to it s free form style.
The filling is forgiving as you can use whatever is local and in season or head to the frozen section and
take your pick of frozen fruits (there is a grocer near me that stocks frozen cloudberries and local sour
cherries what a treat!), so choose your flavor, roll out the pastry which takes some muscle, but be
patient and it will work with you.
This galette is inspired by Kimberley Phaneuf of Regina s Flour Shoppe, from the newly printed
Feast, cookbook. If you haven t checked out this cookbook it s a gem, cover to cover. Two girls
traversed the prairies, coasts, tundra and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pulse a few times, just until the dough comes together, adding more water only if it appears dry.
On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough three to four times, then pat it into a disc (or two,
if making smaller galettes) and wrap in plastic. Let it rest and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2
hours (or up to 24) before rolling.
When you re ready to roll out the galette, remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it sit at room
temperature until slightly softened, about 10 15 minutes.
Dust the countertop with flour and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the dough out in a
circular shape to about ¼ inch (6mm) thick. Don t worry if it looks a little wonky. It s rustic! Once
rolled, transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet.
To make the filling, add the sugar, cornstarch, lemon zest, and thyme to a large bowl and mix together.
Add the fruit and stir to combine.
Pour the fruit mixture onto the centre of the prepared crust, leaving a 2 ½ inch (6 1/2 cm) border
around the edge. Fold the edges of the crust over the fruit toward the centre this will keep your filling
contained. Chill in the refrigerator for 20 30

  • 2. History of Delicious Spaghetti Spaghetti can be eaten most successfully if you inhale it like a vacuum cleaner. Sophia Loren. Spaghetti is one of the most popular meals at restaurants and, even in our homes. It isn t as simple as it seems, there are many forms, an odd amount of nutritional benefits, and it has a complex history. Spaghetti is the plural form of the Italian word spaghetts, which is a diminutive of spago meaning thin string or twine (www.allaboutspaghetti.com). Spaghetto, a single noodle, has helped to form our society from the Neolithic age until today. It has transformed shape, size, has lost and gained popularity, but it has always been. The history of pasta dates back to as early as when the first humans began harvesting wheat. The first mention of it was from a Roman chef, Apicius, in the first century A.D. He had called the pasta ribbons (www.exanitier.com). This led historians to believe that this was the first written reference of spaghetti. In later centuries, there were references of pasta making equipment used by the Etruscans. The next written record of pasta was mentioned in Italy during the 12th century by Guglielmo diMalavalle, who called the pasta macaroni. In the 14th century, sailors would use pasta for their meals because it was easy to store and, it didn t spoil. By the 16th century, pasta was a luxurious type of food. Only the wealthy people ate it because the durum wheat required to make spaghetti was hard to ground harvest efficiently. In the early 17th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dealing With Repeat, Criminal Offenders, And The Justice... Dealing with repeat, criminal offenders, has become a hot topic issue in the corrections community, as well as the justice system as a whole. Society demands to be protected from the criminal element, and rightly so, but how do we identify the career criminals, and keep them from harming others? Even though a small number of career criminals were responsible for the majority of the crimes being committed in the country, it was not until the mid 1980s that selective incapacitation began to be used (Mays Winfree, 2009). One of the assumptions, concerning career criminals, is that here is no way to reform them. These offenders will continually commit criminal acts as long as they are not incarcerated. To keep these career criminals locked away, many states began passing laws to identify, and incarcerate them for mandatory lengths of time. By the mid 1980s, and the early 1990s, states began passing habitual offenders statutes, which in effect, identified repeat offenders in the justice system, and sentencing them to long, mandatory prison sentences, up to, and including life in prison without parole (Mays Winfree, 2009). These statutes are known as the three strikes laws. The meaning behind this is that if an offender, who has been convicted three times for criminal offenses, is incapable of reforming, and therefore should be incarcerated, and kept away from the rest of society. In principle, this may sound like a great idea, and a great way to keep society safe, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Knee Injury Summary Summary of Article This article begins with explain how even though volleyball is a non contact sport, it holds a very high risk of injury. The most frequent way injuries occur are because of poor landing techniques. Women are more prone to these types of injuries because biologically they have weaker ligaments. The second most common injuries are injuries to the ankle. Researchers have said that the best way to reduce injuries is by practicing appropriate postural control. Postural control is also linked with balance. Balance one of the main components of knee injury. Volleyball, basketball, and other active athletes have not developed proper posture to land safely, causing many injuries to the knee and ankles. Point of Agreement I agree that there has to be some reason for non contact athletes, like volleyball players, are injuring themselves. It makes sense that the injury is caused by a poor development of proper posture. With anything in sports, it is important to develop proper form and technique to both execute the skill and be safe while playing. Many athletes, even professional, have a hard time with proper technique. They think they know everything about the game but forget the basics and end up injuring themselves. The main part of these monologues is the men killing their wives. Both kill their wives because they are both jealous men, who want complete control over the woman. They feel as if the women should be their property, and only theirs. Another Similarity of these monologues is they are wrote in the man s point of view, and not the women. Peace Keeping is, perhaps, The most important of the UN’s duties. But without the funds and equipment of the veto countries Peacekeeping forces will become only a memory. The main problem facing the UN, despite the issues with Veto powers, Peacekeeping, and the Americans, is the organization s financial situation. • 13. David Malouf s Remembering Babylon And William Golding s... David Malouf s Remembering Babylon and William Golding s The Inheritors both explore and criticise violent and discriminatory human nature through various techniques. Remembering Babylon takes place in 19th Century Queensland following a young British man, Gemmy Fairley, who was thrown overboard a ship and has grown up with aboriginals for sixteen years, and his relationship with the new settlers. The Inheritors follows a journey of a peaceful Neanderthal tribe who are slowly facing extinction due to the violent nature of the coexisting humans, kidnapping and murdering. Both novels have criticised the impacts of human nature, how humans has developed and detached themselves from nature and been drawn to violence and discrimination. Malouf and Golding employ a range of literary techniques to express these ideas. Malouf and Golding s narrative perspectives vary to portray a unique perspective on the issues of human nature. Malouf writes in third person omniscient with a narrator, however changes the focus to specific characters throughout each chapter, becoming third person limited. This allows readers to understand the mind set of the settlers surrounding Gemmy s arrival however for the perspective to remain unbiased. This helps display issues of human nature in an unprejudiced way as Ned Corcoran, resident of the settlement Gemmy is brought to, thought that Gemmy was trading on the residents goodwill (39) rather than having a positive influence on the settlement. Second, the country has dropped significantly their investment in rural development and agriculture, which affects the country s growth because it s overwhelmingly rural. Lastly, the transport expenditures have also decreased substantially. If the country had better transport infrastructure, the government could raise their revenues that come from public services. Additionally, without proper transport infrastructure there is a loss of potential tourism destinations, and reduced competitiveness in market accessibility due to high access costs to commodities. Budget Deficit Cambodia budget s deficit has remained relatively flat between 2000 and 2017 (estimated). In 2000, the deficit was 4.8% of GDP and in 2017 the deficit is estimated to be 4.5% of GDP, excluding grants. The country s expenditures have grown at faster rate than its revenues. In the year 2000, Cambodia expenditures represented 15% of GDP while the estimation for the year 2017 is 22% of GDP, 7 percentage points more than in 2000. • 23. Poverty In Africa Essay Project Kwanele Although Africa is the second largest continent, one can say poverty is an ever present situation (Abebe and Quaicoe, 2014). Largely due to historical background, social inequalities are the foundation of poverty in Africa. The continent has, for decades, been viewed as the epitome of poverty, with many countries plagued by unemployment, malnutrition, lack of education and limited access to healthcare. The difficulty with this is that poverty then becomes a viscous cycle, passed on from generation to generation, and thus hindering development of these countries. With several countries having gained independence, the development of African countries has been on a steady escalation, even being viewed as a potential for investment by global investors. However it takes more than a change in governance to correct the wrongs of years of social injustices. Abebe and Quaicoe (2014) found that policies in these countries have a major impact on poverty. And this is the reason why policies (particularly those addressing social development) need to be well drafted and well executed to ensure that wealth is evenly distributed, in order to minimise the gap between the rich and the poor. Over and above impeding economic growth, poverty may have detrimental effects that can threaten the survival of a population. An impoverished community lacks nutritious food that is supposed to strengthen one s body to be able to fight off infections and other diseases. The State of Food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I never knew books could reflect your life or even share experiences that other people might feel or have been through. It all began in high school, my second year of school and my class was beginning a new book called Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. After reading the book, I learned it is explicit in its warnings and moral lessons aimed at the present. I could not care less about the world but after reading Fahrenheit 451, I became more aware of the world now. Another book that inspired me to read more was called Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, learning about how we should not forget the fundamentals of what makes human a human. • 25. Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad Xenia is an obligatory, socially regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god fearing hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When welcomed in to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably this then transitions to the food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel. It is the recipient s responsibility to treat the host with respect, as they are visitors. I assert that xenia has a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory because respect is the foundation of xenia; these effects can be seen throughout The Iliad and The Odyssey, particularly in the interactions of ... The god s staff and ribbons won t save you next time. (Homer The Iliad 1.33 37). As Chryses was a priest of Apollo, he beseeched Apollo to seek revenge against Agamemnon and the Greeks. Apollo answered his prayer and decimated the Greeks with a plague (Homer, The Iliad, 1.45 51, 61 62). Even though he has been against the government and lashing back at the government pretty much his whole life but this is the biggest thing he has done to go against them. Although it isn t one hundred percent sure that he exactly did this, it wouldn t be a surprise because he was a ruthless person and knew that he could easily get away with this. He does what he has to do, but when it comes to bombing and killing several of the Supreme Court, that might be a little too far. But it did show the power that he had and shows how much of a villain. He can almost compare him to V from V for Vendetta. He first mentioned honor in the first chapter, quoting Nathan Hale, Spying, he agreed, was not an honorable undertaking, but if the exigencies of my country demand a peculiar service its claims to perform that service are imperious. The spying game was not considered gentlemen s work, for the title spy was dishonorable in itself. Rose concluded the book with an epilogue sharing how each of the spies lived their lives after the war was over, and how many could return to their normal lives without the criticism of partaking in Washington s dishonorable tasks. Pleasing Films for Historians and Mainstream Audiences The transition from historical information to cinema is often a dangerous and controversial road, few films are able to consistently please both historians and mainstream audiences. The topic of Sino Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of film. Films such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the Doorstep, The Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek to investigate this turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different perspectives involved. Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever hope to achieve the detailed work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding of some of the most chaotic periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than 100 million people from thirty different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human history. How can anyone make sense of that on paper other than listing the number of casualties? Film, deeply aware of its limitations has become a different form of understanding the past, capable of taking a particular event such as war and exploring universal themes. Cognitive dissonance can formally be defined as feeling of discomfort resulting from inconsistent attitudes, thoughts and behaviors, ( Communication 90). We will have a feeling of discomfort if new informations doesn t fit with what we already know and we will take many steps to reduce it ( Communication 90). We do this mainly because we seek psychological consistencies and that feeling of discomfort can lead us to changing our attitudes and behaviors ( Communication 93). For example, when we try and keep dissonance from happening we will either ignore the different views that are presented, change either our views or the other person s views depending on the situation, or trying to reassure ourselves after making a big decision ( Communication 92). Dissonance also comes in different forms of impact. We will take into account how severe the situation is before making a final decision, or the magnitude of the situation ( Communication 94). The magnitude is how much dissonance is felt ( Communication 94). We take the account of magnitude in by looking at importance, ratio, and rationale of the situation ( Communication 94 95). Importance is how significant we see the situation to be (95). The last two parts are ratio, the dissonant cognitions compared to the consonant cognitions, and rationale which is what we decide the reason behind the dissonance is ( Communication 95). With the cognitive dissonance theory there are different ways in which we can perceive information and that help us reduce dissonance ( Communication 96). The four perception types are selective exposure, selective attention, selective interpretation, and selective retention ( Communication 96). The first perception is selective exposure which can be defined as looking at the information the we want to ( Communication 96). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, I will state this position on the premise of words from the Apostles Creed. Second, I will argue that belief in things that humankind does not understand is not a cause for disbelief, rather belief is required for the things humankind does not understand. Lastly, I will respond that belief in the things we do not understand is flawed when argued by a Christian, because the Christian view of humankind s sinful nature does not allow for humankind to define flawlessly what is rational or irrational to believe. All of this means that Christianity is not itself a rational religion, although there may still be a rational religion. We are letting them know that they truly matter; that we value their time and ideas, which they are sharing with us. In an ideal situation we will both benefit from the conversation. Listening to your voice. When we think about these words we automatically think about the vocal voice. What about the unspoken voice? The communication that takes place between individuals with looks, gestures, specific habits? The use of Sign Languages? The use of the Morse code? Do these not all have A ... The onus on notification of infectious disease is still seen today in the Control of Disease Act 1984 and the Regulation of the Infectious Diseases 1988. This may have positive benefits to public health, limiting illnesses such as food poisoning and rapid identification of outbreaks of bacterial meningitis, measles and other illnesses through prompt notification and medical or environmental intervention. The role of social conscience however and its manifestation in social control may have been responsible for dividing communities through encouraging individuals to report their apparently ill neighbours. Locating public health The tradition of public health and inherent understanding of the term, dates back as early as pre Christian times, classified in five periods or bodies of thought: The Graeco Roman period with emphasis on water and sanitation, the Medieval emphasis on epidemics, the Enlightenment emphasis on disease prevalence, the Industrialisation emphasis on working conditions and Modern era emphasis on bacteriology and virology (Rosen 1993 cited in Costello and Haggart ... • 45. My Personal Goals Essay As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these goals are far stretched and sometimes even fairy tale like, we tend to see life through a rose colored glass, not taking into account the many sidetracks life throws our way. At that stage in life our goals tend to be less focused and somewhat unreachable. However, the process of growing up, or maturing, tends organized and center our goals, we learn to make compromises and set goals for our goals. There are different types of goals, short term and long term. I have learned to separate the many goals I have into three main categories: family, professional and personal. I have planned monthly individual date nights with my children, so that they can have my undivided attention for a certain period of time. The second family short term goal takes into account my marriage. In order to raise happy and healthy children, a happy and healthy relationship with one s spouse is paramount. In order to achieve this goal my husband and I have decided to also dedicate more time for the two of us. For the next year we have made an agreement to take at least one vacation together, so that we may increase the bond that brought us together. We have also decided that for the next three year we will spend Holidays as a family so that we may create our own family traditions, we will do whatever is in our power to spend Holidays together, that includes not working or making other plans with the rest of our immediate families. On many occasions my personal goals have come before my professional aspirations. A career in the medical field has always been something I have looked forward to. As a child I wanted and dreamed of being a doctor, however due to the choices I made in life and the priorities that I had not thought of, I have come to realize that my childhood dream may not come true. Yet, I was able to compromise and make short and long term goals that will lead me into a career in the medical field. My long term goal is to enter the medical field world and be a respected contributor to it. I want to be able to help others in the time of need. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Regina s Flour Shoppe This rustic pie takes all the great qualities from a regular pie: A browned pastry crust plus a gooey fruit filling minus all the fuss thanks to it s free form style. The filling is forgiving as you can use whatever is local and in season or head to the frozen section and take your pick of frozen fruits (there is a grocer near me that stocks frozen cloudberries and local sour cherries what a treat!), so choose your flavor, roll out the pastry which takes some muscle, but be patient and it will work with you. This galette is inspired by Kimberley Phaneuf of Regina s Flour Shoppe, from the newly printed Feast, cookbook. If you haven t checked out this cookbook it s a gem, cover to cover. Two girls traversed the prairies, coasts, tundra and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pulse a few times, just until the dough comes together, adding more water only if it appears dry. On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough three to four times, then pat it into a disc (or two, if making smaller galettes) and wrap in plastic. Let it rest and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (or up to 24) before rolling. When you re ready to roll out the galette, remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature until slightly softened, about 10 15 minutes. Dust the countertop with flour and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the dough out in a circular shape to about ¼ inch (6mm) thick. Don t worry if it looks a little wonky. It s rustic! Once rolled, transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet. To make the filling, add the sugar, cornstarch, lemon zest, and thyme to a large bowl and mix together. Add the fruit and stir to combine. Pour the fruit mixture onto the centre of the prepared crust, leaving a 2 ½ inch (6 1/2 cm) border around the edge. Fold the edges of the crust over the fruit toward the centre this will keep your filling contained. Chill in the refrigerator for 20 30 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
