Ever wonder about how stress affects our bodies and our health? This word stress is thrown
around by the media so much it s losing its meaning but have you ever wondered how they define
stress? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines stressas a physical, chemical, or emotional factor
that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation. Our text book
defines stress as the term used to describe the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral
responses to events that are appraised as threatening or challenging. Stress causing events are
called stressors, they can come from external sources or from within us and can scale from
relatively mild to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Believe it or not there are such things as good and bad stress. Too much of either can lead to
disorders that can control our lives and can help spiral our lives out of control. These disorders
can possibly, in a sense, make us do things that we normally wouldn t do. It s almost like an altered
uncontrollable state of both mind and body. One of those stress disorders is called acute stress
disorder. Acute Stress Disorder, or ASD, is characterized by the development of severe anxiety,
dissociative, and other symptoms that occurs within one month after exposure to an extreme
traumatic stressor. This disorder was unfortunately the most common suffered by many people after
the traumatic events of 9/11.
Another stress disorder that is commonly found among returning soldiers from war is called post
traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that can
develop following a traumatic event that threatens your safety or makes you feel helpless.
Traumatic events that can lead to PTSD include rape, a natural disaster, kidnapping, assaults, car or
plane crash, medical procedures especially in young children, and war. According to The National
Institute of Mental Health, women seem to be more susceptible to PTSD and have almost twice
the risk of developing PTSD. It s easy to talk about the major life changes and major stressors but
the most of our daily stress come from the smallest things. From minor

Case Study Of Eprit And Zara
Esprit has positioned in a different market segment from rivals like Zara, H M and Mango. The
Esprit woman describes tis typical customer, should be in their 30s and care more about the
quality and value of a product than its price. Most other fast fashion retailers are more price driven
and target mainly youngsters aged from 15 to 20 years old.
Another major difference between Esprit and Zara is their respective business models. Esprit now
has around half of its sales revenue coming from wholesale, while Zara adopts a vertical business
and takes control of the sales of all its products.
Despite the differences, there are always elements Esprit can learn from Zara. One thing it has
learned is how to deliver products faster to the market. For part of its collections since June,
Esprit has shortened the time needed to delivering new product lines to stores from the original
six months to a period of eight to 12 weeks. The key to achieving this is to cancel the lead time
for wholesalers to make selections and orders but ask them to reserve part of their budget for what
the clothier will offer them.

Anaacond Unity Of Command During Operation Anaconda
Unity of Command during Operation Anaconda Unity of command is defined as all forces operate
under a single commander with the requisite authority to direct all forces in pursuit of a common
purpose. (Doctrine for the Armed Forces of the United States, 2013, p. V 1). Combined Joint Task
Force (CJTF) Mountain only had tactical control of some of the organizations involved and due to
United States Central Command (CENTCOM) not being centrally located this caused delays in
decision making. Even though lessons learned from Operation Anaconda has help facilitate unity of
command for future operations; unity of command was a newer concept that the Armed Forces had
not fully operated under.
Leading up to Operation Anaconda Prior to the building up of forces for Operation Anaconda, the
command structure was set up that CENTCOM was working with two subordinate commands.
Those commands were Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) and Coalition
Forces Air Component Command (CFACC). CFLCC and CFACC were both staged in the Persian
Gulf and were set to offer support to any operation in Afghanistan from there. Task Force (TF)
Dagger was the only ground force located in Afghanistan. (TF) Dagger consisted of 5th Special
Operation Forces (SOF) and Central Intelligent Agency (CIA) operations. During the build up and
planning of Operation Anaconda, elements of the 10th Mountain Division Staff were deployed into
the CENTCOM s area of responsibility. While doing their

Fort Polk houses over 10,000 soldiers per year. It is home to as much as seven military operating

facilities to maintain and display archeological finds.
In the 1940 s, the military acquired the Fort Polk land from private owners. The area was once
home to a thriving lumber trade. Today, scientists study the land to find archeological clues about
the area s past.
The base deals with more than military issues, doing work to learn about the area s ancient history

Essay On Lucretia
The purpose of this assignment is to present a brief yet comprehensive formal analysis of the work
in question, namely, Joos van Cleve s Lucretia. The painting was completed ca. 1525 by the
Flemish artist most likely in Antwerp, where he was highly active from about 1511 until his death
in 1540. The paintingis oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroqueperiod.
The work depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia,
following her rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. The incident bears
historical significance as it marks rising popular dissatisfaction of the Roman people with the
monarchy, and the transition from the Roman Kingdomto the Roman Republic,... Show more

This image of Lucretia is not that of some mythological or religious origin, say, of a venus, for
example, part of whose appeal is the depiction of nudity without social repercussion. With respect to
the time which bore this painting, it is not unlikely that this inclination to experiment with the
female nude was in part sublimated by means of this historical subject matter, however, so say that
Lucretia s nudity is illustrated only on account of what would amount to the privilege of moral
impunity is perhaps too simple an explanation. It seems much more reasonable to posit that
Lucretia s own nudity, especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very
expensive clothing (other depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether),
is employed by Cleve to highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes
have been cleaved open, and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. Whether intended by the
artist, this awkward parting of Lucretia s garments over her left shoulder and down through her
abdomen adds greatly to the desolation and pity associated with her historical figure. Ultimately,
this compositional decision serves to augment the paintings emotional

particular help to a database designer. Also, discuss indexing practices that can adversely affect the
performance of a database. In your discussion, include information on how a designer should
decide on how many indexes to provide per table.
Indexes are used to boost performance in a database. Finding an individual record or set of records
most efficiently done by Index. Index key is the reference point where an index is an ordered
arrangement of keys and pointers. Each key is appointed to the location of the data recognized by
the key. For example: when we print out at the NEU library we have given our User ID so ... Show

Not updated: Look for information that is not subject to change when identifying primary keys. ID
numbers instead for Names.
Required: If the key is defined within a table, it will never have a null value. Information cant
referenced without a Primary key. Value is required by the software.
Combination Keys: A primary key can be made from a single field or combination of several
fields. It could be made from a combination of student ID number and the time computer use started
in a database. For an example: Computer user logs.
Identifying foreign keys: Every dependent and category entity in the design must have a foreign
key for each relationship in which it participates. Foreign keys are formed in dependent and sub
type entities by migrating the entire primary key from the parent or generic entity. If the primary
key is composite, it may not be split.
Foreign key attributes are not considered to be owned by the entities that they migrate, because they
are reflections of attributes in the parent entity. Each attribute in an entity is either owned by that
entity or belongs to a foreign key in that entity.
3. Describe at least two examples of common errors in entity relationship modeling. If possible,
provide a graphical illustration of the problems and solutions. List some questions the designer
should consider before designing the models so that these errors can be avoided.

Utilitarianism In Beowulf
The movie Beowulf can be viewed in many different lights satirical, sad, beautiful, and some
may even dare to say, complete garbage. Renowned, American film critic, Roger Ebert wrote a
comical review for the movie and Marsha Sinkevich wrote a pointed response to his viewpoint.
Ebert believes the movie adaptation of the poem is strictly satirical, ment for laughter, and should
be taken for nothing else but pure enjoyment. Sinkevich wrote a response to to Ebert s review
stating that she believed the movie was, storytelling at its best. Personally, I agree more with Ebert.
I don t think the film did any justice to the epic poem, Beowulf, and should be seen as a comedy. In
Robert Ebert s review he writes, When Beowulf slays Grendel, the hero immediately strips naked,
because if Grendel wears no clothes, then he won t...which leads to a great deal of
Austinpowerism. This deviates from the actual poem in a mediocre attempt to add humor. In
reality, Beowulf simply fought Grendel without weapons he was fully clothed, and protected in a
blanket of silver armour. If the film showed the battle as it actually occurred in the epic poem, I
would have found it much more enjoyable and I assume others, including Ebert, would have too....

For example, Marsha Sinkevich replied to Ebert s review saying, I found the film moving,
dynamic, and even with the blood and guts, very poetic and sad. The only truth in her statement
is that the movie is sad, viewers watch Hrothgar plumet to his suicidal death; an event which did
not occur in the original poem. However, since this scene does not follow the actual events of
Beowulf, I feel a false sense of sadness is created. All in all, the movie deviates so much from the
original poem that it becomes dreadful to watch, especially if the viewer appreciates the actual

Animal Testing Cosmetics On Animals
Sure the final product may look pretty, but is it really worth it to test these products that could be
toxic, on defenceless animals? When people go shopping for cosmetics they can never picture the
product being meant for humans, being used on a defenceless creature such as a bunny or a
mouse. The test are not as accurate as testing on a human. In most cases the animals are never able
to live the life they were meant to. People using animals to test human products on is pointless for
many reasons. Testing cosmetics on animals was a common thing for companies to do in the 1980s.
The types of test they perform on animals are the potential for eye irritation, oral acute toxicity,
photosensitivity, skin irritation, and many more depending on... Show more content on

Some reasons for this are that it does not put people s lives at risk, it is easier for the scientist to
observe the results, and that it is supposed to be more affordable than testing on humans. The
testing involves multiple experiments and multiple test subjects, but since humans are not used in
this form of testing the harm to them is limited unless they are the ones who are performing the
test. The contact of the product is minimal to the people performing the test. The results of the
testing is easier for the researchers to observe due to the fact that keeping the animals under
surveillance is easier to do rather than keeping a human in surveillance. The animals they use for
testing usually consist of a rodent of some sort. Most companies want to be able to have a safe
product that does not put humans in danger. The toxicity test is one of the most important test and
it is extremely harmful to humans Most of the new tests assess acute toxicity, but animal use is
highest when testing for the toxic effects of prolonged exposure to chemicals for long term
consequences such as cancer and reproductive toxicity. These costly procedures are harder to
mimic in vitro and may never be completely replaced. (Abbott). In 1971, a comparison of animal
Draize tests in different labs showed most of the test to be non reproducible without animal test
subjects.(Cole) Cosmetic companies who use animals for cosmetic testing

Cuba Human Geography
Cuba has been the source of controversy for decades. Between events such as the Bay of Pigs
invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s and the country s ongoing Communist
dictatorship, this island nation has not always been thought of as an appealing place to visit.
However, Cuba s physical and human geography, especially when coupled with the lifting of the
US embargo, give it the potential to be a prime tourismdestination. Cubafirst gained importance in
the 1560s, when the Spanish built Havana as a center to keep and build navy ships. During the
1700s, it primarily profited from sugar plantations, though it also made money from cattle farming,
tobacco, and coffee. Cuba primarily exported the sugar it produced to Spain, but... Show more

Although only certain Americans will be able to visit Cuba at first, there is the potential to
allow free travel between the two countries in the future (Marsh, 2016). Because Americans
make up over half of all Caribbean tourist arrivals, they would likely add Cuba to their itineraries
when visiting the region. Another potential sector for development is ferry service from Florida
to Cuba. These ferries would easily allow Floridians to make quick weekend trips to the
Caribbean, and even bring their car by using one of the larger drive on ferries (Padilla McElroy,
2007, p. 650). In addition to ferries, Havana could become a port of call for the hundreds of cruise
ships that sail through the Caribbean each week. Although the Port of Havana is currently only
suitable for smaller ships with a maximum length of 755 feet, the government is sure to realize the
huge potential economic benefit from cruise ships and construct larger areas for them to dock (Port
of Havana). Another way Americans will be able to visit Cuba in the future is by plane. Currently,
the United States Department of Transportation is reviewing bids submitted by airlines in February
for various routes between the United States and Cuba. Flights are expected to be rewarded to
airlines over the summer and to begin around October. Competition between airlines is likely to
result in flights

Antoine Henri Jomini
The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were turbulent eras generating several changes in the
way how commanders led the war. The world owes a debt to one man for interpreting and
recording his contributions to strategy and the art of war: Antoine Henri Jomini. The purpose of
this paper to explain why the Jomini s theories are a school of thoughts that remain adequate for
explaining warfare in the modern era. The importance of logistics, the acceptance of principles of
war, and the concept of the geometry of battlespace proposed by Jomini s theories are three broad
concepts that are still adequate for explaining in the modern era. Incorporating the logistics in the
planning process is a key task to achieve important militaryoutcomes. Clausewitz... Show more

Mallick argues that The Principles of War are the principles expressing the rules of military
thought and actions that serve as the permanent basis for combat doctrine. Ettrich mentioned
that to have a better understanding of how Jomini developed his principles of war creating a set
of thoughts that have remained relatively unaltered for approximately two centuries, it is
necessary to study his life, his intense studies of war, military career, and the circumstances that
shaped his tactical and strategic thinking. Jomini as the same way of other military philosophers,
tried to articulate his insights about of the art of war presenting his ideas through a list of
maxims or as a list of general truths whose application contributes to success in war, they may be
legitimately viewed, as the prototype of the modern principles of war . Jomini s maxims are the
closest thought to the modern principles of war. Without considering the fact that Jomini never
defined his concepts like general principles of war, nor did he provided precise details of the
fundamental principles he wrote, these have been adopted for many armies in the world. In
chapter six of Peter Paret s Makers of Modern Strategy: From Machiavelli to the Nuclear Age,
John Shy mentioned that many of the nineteenth centuries military leaders accepted Jomini s
maxims as valid principles. Ettrich recalls that historically, the Jomini s concepts of principles of
war were introduced to the United States in 1817 and were used initially at the US Military
Academy; these principles are still valid in the US Army doctrine. Weigley argues that during the
United States Civil War, military leaders from both sides embraced concepts and principles
learned while studying as contemporaries at the Military Academy prior to the rise and secession
of the Confederacy ; as a result, Union and Confederates leaders achieved

Good Vs. Evil In Rikki-Tavi
In Rikki Tikki Tavi, I think the primary theme is good versus evil. If we look at the story from a
postcolonialism perspective, you will see the symbolism of what each character represents. The
cobras represent the rebel Indians, while Rikki Tikki represents a British soldier hero of sorts.
The author was born in British India, eight years after the Indian Rebellion. As a child, he
probably heard stories, that would later inspire him. I think he wrote this story for two purposes:
it s bedtime children s story on the surface, but deeper within, a look into postcolonialism. Rikki
Tikki Tavi is an enjoyable story for me because I like its deeper meaning. Using an animal instead

The woodland caribou are in trouble all across Alberta; from a population of 7000 9000, there

the woodland caribou can find necessary items for them to not only survive, but to thrive. As a
result of the rapidly decreasing caribou population our forests are also suffering. The caribou take

How Does Headgear Affect Soccer Players
Headgear Can Help Reduce Injuries in Soccer`1 4% 20% of all injuries in soccer are head
injuries. Concussion and head injuries are a big part of soccer, many younger players should
have to wear protective headgear while playing. Also, many of these head injuries that players
sustained during soccer can affect them for the rest of their life with things such as CTE. Even
though many people don t want to change the game of soccer, at a certain age players should have
to wear headgear if they want to head the ball because the brain damagekids can get from heading

With so many head injuries and no protection the game is more dangerous than many think. For

The Pros And Cons Of Doping In Sports
Ethical reflection is deemed as being very important in the world of sport. Doping for instance,
although athletes resort to this. It has many ethical objections and is portrayed negatively as
numerous faults are argued about this case.
Doping in sport, is arguably, the most talked about and controversial issue today, with very little
change on it. Although, there has been a substantial increase in the use of it, (Dimeo, 2013) states
Anti doping regulations were only established in the 1960 s, and serves as a useful reminder of an
important but neglected fact about drug use. There is a consistent dispute against doping as, it
fluctuates through all sports and have been demonised by society as it is considered as unethical.
The International Association of Athletics (IAAF) was the first international sports federation, in
1928, to ban performance enhancing drugs (IAAF, 2003). Followed by the World Anti Doping
Agency (WADA) and The International Olympic Committee (IOC). An athletes engagement in
competing is very important. It is their desire to gain any possible advantage to have an edge on
their opponents and will do anything in their power to be the best. Doping is discriminated due to,
being an unequal playing field and being harmful. This study explores the strengths and weaknesses
of these ethical objections and the sociological theories on the use of drugs in sport.
A common argument against doping in sport shifts from the concept that, there should be a level
playing field for athletes and competition. A connection between doping and wrongness is
noticeable as, it is argued that doping is banned because it is cheating or unfair (Meller, Waddington
and Hoberman, 2015). In some cases, doping in sports is cheating because the athlete is breaking
their contractual obligations, in sports that it is prohibited. (Green, 2004 and Schermer, 2006)
define cheating as being the intentional violation of a rule, that is used in common language as an
indication to many different forms of deception, and fraud that are intended to gain some benefit
for oneself. Cheating essentially involves the intent to gain an unfair advantage (Feezell, 2010).

census which left places either democratic and republican. The problem cause a problem the
politician due not campaign anymore , because they already know they will win. when policiation
due not campaign the are also less like to to compromise and come to agreement. The new rule is
the citizen redistricting committee. now instead of politician drawing the lines, a group of citizen
do it. They job is to stop gerrymandering and also to not violate any of the voting right act when
drawing this lines.
The third rule the the budget rule. the old rules was that you need the majority of votes to pass a
budget rule. they would need about two thirds of votes for it to pass. This rules caused a few
problem like if the majority did not like the budget proposal that it was thrown away. Alo this
cause to be late budget since it is hard for a budget to pass. It also cause use to borrow money
from others since the is no budget rule, leading to us having a wall of debt. Now new budget rule is
simple majority. A simple is a majority in which the highest number of votes cast for any one
candidate, issue, or item exceeds the second highest number, while not constituting an absolute

The Japanese Political System
From the Meiji Restoration era, democratization efforts were undertaken to modernize Japan. A
bicameral system of legislature as well as local, though unelected assemblies were created in the
image of the Prussian model (Haddad, 2012, p. 50) and a Constitution placing absolute power with
the monarch was formed. Although the main intention of the oligarchs behind the Constitution was
to have the national Diet as an advisory body, they created a series of transcendental cabinets which
answered to the Emperor (Haddad, 2012, p. 50), Bureaucrats were important tools during this period

Sharing information is the solution to improving beneficial outcomes for all children. It is essential
to facilitate early intervention and preventative work for safeguarding children. All professionals
involved with children must know and understand what to do and the most effective ways of
sharing information about children who are at risk of abuse or neglect. In some situations, sharing
information with a family about their child could seem good practice, but it is not crucial e.g.
where evidence of abuse or neglect could be destroyed or removed by a parent/carer or where a
child could be placed at an increased risk when parents/carers have this knowledge.
2.1 Explain the importance of safeguarding children and young people.
It is important to work in partnership with other organisations to safeguard children/young people

Boys And Girls Munro
Mother Versus Father: A Thematic Analysis of Boys and Girls Alice Munro developed the
theme Be yourself, and do not let others change that in her short story, Boys and Girls with the
use of characters and the setting. At the beginning, the narrator sees herself as a daddy s girl who
enjoys helping out on the farm, but as the story continues she is shaped into a character more like
her mother. Together, Munro s characters and the setting of the story influence the theme in a
variety of ways. The narrator influenced the theme as she was being shaped into a person she did
not want to be. Her mother continuously pushed her to be less like a tomboy and more like a
typical girl. The narrator viewed the word girl as something she had to... Show more content on

women belonged in the house, just like the rest of the society in the early 1900s. The narrator s

she discussed how Laird was getting older. The mother was against the idea of women helping
out with a man s job, such as working in the barn or helping out with the pelting operation, for she
was plotting now to get me to stay in the house more, although she knew I hated it (5). The mother
showed both irritation and displeasure due to her daughter always running off when she asked for

Slavery In The English Colonies
The labor system used in the English colonies of North America experienced developmental shifts
from 1607 to 1750 as the institution of slavery became firmly established in law and in society. In
1607, English settlers founded Jamestown, in Virginia. A Dutch ship brought around 20 Africans to
the colony in 1619, where they became indentured servants. Both white English people and Africans
worked as indentured servants during the seventeenth century, though some Africans served for life.
Slaverystrengthened as an institution during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and African
slaves became the dominant source of labor. The strengthening of slavery in the English North
American colonies and its development into a powerful institution with criteria for determining the
roles and rights of slaves were caused by the establishment of the status of slaves among whites and
the decline in the popularity of white indentured servants. Policies created by the Virginia General
Assembly contributed to the development of the institution of slavery in its colony by legally
establishing differences between indentured servants and slaves. In 1667, the assembly cleared up
slave owners concerns regarding slave children s status being changed by baptism. They determined
that baptism would not change the condition of slaves and that masters could spread Christianity to
slaves without creating any grounds on which they could be freed. (Document 4). This policy

Mezirow specifically argued the importance of feedback for reflective learning (1998). It has been
noted that an environment of trust is key to maximizing student s success in developing high level
reflective skills (Epp, 2008). Multiple studies have identified issues of trust from the student s
perspective (Landeen, Byrne, Brown, 1992, 1995, Riley Doucet Wilson, 1997). It can be that
students write what they perceive teachers want to read or in other instances that students must
have a sense that the environment and relationship between student and faculty is safe to achieve
higher levels of reflection. Indeed, in the medical student study, although the expectation was that
feedback would be at least as effective as guidelines in improving learners reflective skill, the effect
sizes were quite different. Feedback had a very small effect size whereas the use of guidelines was
larger. Even the clinical learning environment seems to impact the reflective levels of students.

Bio-Fuels Are Better than Fossil Fuels
Fossil fuel plays leading role in upsetting environmental, economical and climate protection. Our
earth is at catastrophic risk by the exploitation of fossil fuels. Therefore, pressure is on to find
viable alternatives for energy to bring a stable, safe and clean revolution. In that case, bio fuels
make an attractive alternative for energy than fossil fuels. Various provocative questions need

dependence is to be actually minimized? What is the scope of bio fuel for a safer world? How will

greenhouse gas production from human activities. This burning carbon has overloaded our earth
with detrimental effects, including severe storm, drought, massive fires, thawing of the polar caps,
earthquakes, global changes in agricultural productivity and disease patterns. Thus, the dependency
on fossil fuels to meet energy demands should be minimized.
To solve the rigorous threat to earth from global warming, bio fuels serve as the most feasible
source of energy all over the world. The environmental and economical performance of bio fuel
as compared to fossil fuel was analyzed by full Life Cycle Analyses (LCA) in Spain. The
Spanish government CIEMAT, carried out two LCA s so as to compare ethanol ethanol mixtures

these standards evaluate energy and mass balance for two or more objects. It was concluded that
carbon dioxide emission during utilization of bio fuel are lower than fossil fuel and bio fuel
requires less primary energy to be processed than fossil fuels. Bob Dinneen, President and CEO of
the Renewable Fuels Association submitted the letter to the editor of The Gazette in which he
marked that On an environmental level, conventional ethanol is reducing greenhouse gas emissions
by 34% compared to petroleum, including hypothetical land use change emissions (qtd. in

Maintaining The Blood Glucose Level ( Bgl )
Homeostasis is defined as the constant maintenance of internal equilibrium in order for the body
to function at a stable and optimal level. There are many different things the body has to
maintain and keep under control in order for this to happen and one of these is maintaining the
blood glucose level (BGL). Glucose is the preferred fuel source used in the human body. There
are several important cells and organs in the body that require a constant supply of glucose to
properly function, these include red blood cells and immune cells. The purpose of blood glucose
regulation is to keep the body in homeostasis because abnormal levels of glucose can manifest in
pathological conditions such as seizures, hypoglycaemic coma, diabetic ketoacidosos (DKA) and
possibly even death. The brain and the nervous system are the biggest consumers of circulating
glucose and are reliant on a constant supply to maintain optimal function. Failure to maintain BGL
within typical parameters 2.5 7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L or mM) will soon cause
complications within the body. This assignment will seek to give an overview of the homeostatic
system and its components, with emphasis on the regulation of BGL. The author will explore the
significance of this control system as well as the biochemical processes involved. Homeostatic
System The purpose of the homeostatic system as I previously mentioned is to maintain an internal

The Cause of the Great Depression Essay
The Cause of the Great Depression The economic expansion of the 1920 s, with its increased
production of goods and high profits, culminated in immense consumer speculation that collapsed
with disastrous results in 1929 causing America s Great Depression. There were a number or
contributing factors to the depression, with the largest and most important one being a general loss
of confidence in the American economy. The reason it escalated was a general misunderstanding of
recessions by American policymakers of the time.
The U.S. economy was booming in the 1920 s. Stocks prices soared, as they were bought on margin

Many people lost as much as ten times their initial investment, which shook consumer confidence.
In an effort to cover their margins, people rushed the banks in masses, demanding their money.
Soon, banks began to run out of cash and went bust.
With the economy falling in shambles and companies defaulting on loans, nearly all private and
corporate investment ceased. Companies couldn t afford to expand, and in fact, many had to
consolidate in order to cover the margins on their loans. This meant postponing hiring and laying
workers off, which caused unemployment to skyrocket. With people now willing to work for less
money, wages lessened too. At the same time prices rose in an attempt by companies to make some
amount of profit off the goods.
Because the governments prevailing economic theory was based on laissez faire economics, the
government believed that recessions were self correcting. Eventually unemployment and inflation
stopped declining, but not before the U.S. lost 1/3 of it s output and 25% of the workforce was
unemployed.
In the end, it was World War II that brought us out of the Great Depression. With war at hand, the
government began pumping massive amounts of money into the economy. Production and inflation
increased. More jobs were available and wages rose. At the

Medicine has become so advanced in the previous centuries that it is a wonder how the medical
discoveries of today have been fueled by those made during the Renaissance. As the mindset of
those living in Europe during that time changed from religion to self discovery, medical research
began to expand and grow to a more scientific approach. Though several were unable to read, they
became more aware of themselves and humanity compared to their earlier religious views on life,
causing them to take a closer look at the human anatomy. During the English Renaissance,

The citizens of today are living well beyond their fifties, and some are even living past their
nineties. As more and more citizens began to discover different aspects of life, their approach to
medicine began to change as it neared the end of the Medieval Era.
Though the Church still controlled most hospitals, physicians began to research and experiment
with human anatomy. Before, dissections would be made using animals instead of humans. Soon
their practices were dispelled by a physician, Andreas Vesalius. Vesalius conducted his own
anatomical dissections on human cadavers and found that Galen s teaching [...] did not always
apply to humans (Shane 26). At the time, dissecting a human was against the word of God, to
do so would be unholy. The Church began to reconsider after Vesalius findings but they still did
not allow the dissection of God fearing bodies. Instead, they allowed for the use of criminal
bodies once they were executed, or even while they were still alive as a source of torture (
History of Medicine 2011). Though some may see the practice as inhumane, it opened up many
windows for physicians, giving them a chance to go against the Church but still being able to live
with the word of God.

My First Time

was a day that I will never forget. It was the day my friend came to my house crying to me, lip

The Battle of Normandy WWII was a very brutal war, but The Battle of Normandy changed it for
us. This was the turning point in the war. To prepare for this fight the Allies decided to increase

Marbury Vs Madison Case Essay
The Marbury vs Madison decision created lasting effects for the history of American politics by
establishing judicial review. Judicial review provides the Supreme Court with the ability to
determine the constitutionality of an act or issue passed by the legislative or executive branches.
The case took place early in American history where the powers of the Supreme Court were only
outlined in the Constitution but never explicitly exercised in public. The Marbury vs Madison
decision is significant in formation of contemporary American politics because it affirmed the
process of judicial reviewwithin the Supreme Court which secured the principles of the
Constitution and entrenched the separation of powersidea among the bodies of government in the
United States. After the election of 1800, Federalist Party president John Adams lost to Thomas
Jeffersonand his party of the Democratic Republicans. Before handing off power, Adams

However, when Jefferson took office, he told his Secretary of State, James Madison to not confirm

In this landmark case, the Supreme Court found that segregated schools for black and white

Information Literacy and Scholarship, Practice, and Leadership in IT Management
R. Dannels
University of Phoenix
IT (Information Technology) management entails all the routine issues faced by any type of
business manager in addition to the issues of software development, technology purchasing (not
necessarily physical items), systems integration, the limits of technology and the related budgetary
issues. General information literacy is important for any level of IT manager, as he or she needs to
communicate successfully using many different modes, media, and technology with all types of IT
workers, upper management, and technology product vendors. IT management also entails
leadership of projects or departments. Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sheer volume of information of all types is ever increasing, making the job of IT manager more
difficult. To remain competent, IT managers must keep up with the latest trends and new
technologies. The evaluation of new technology is another skill related to information literacy,
since the information describing such technology can take many forms. The best IT managers are
highly skilled in such evaluations. These effective managers seem to be rare, as found in Li (2009).
That study found that to deal with the difficulties of IT management, many organizations used
encroachment, to save face for executives by simplifying and deflecting harmful results and
analysis. This spreads the managerial blame and deals with the well documented fact (every
computer science student is taught this) that over 60% of all technology projects fail and software
development projects in particular fail even more frequently. The reasons for the failure of such
projects include the incompetence of IT management (Toader et al., 2010). This is increasingly
exemplified by the inability to communicate effectively with workers of foreign origin and incorrect
evaluations of technology. The lost revenue of software projects is a huge number and that problem
is not getting better. Since dealing with cross cultural management and the evaluation of new
technology are skills learned in information literacy, the lack of formal information literacy classes

The Contributions Of Socialism In The Jungle, By Upton...
Have you ever heard of the book called The Jungle? This book was written by Upton Sinclair, a
muckraker. Harry Sinclair Lewis was a janitor at Upton Sinclair s socialist colony and he was
influenced by Sinclair s idea of socialism. Therefore, their ideas are very much alike even though
their childhood backgrounds were completely different. Upton Sinclair had a great impact on
society by addressing social issues in the early 1900 s, so what is the significance of Lewis s
works? Some of his major representative works are Main Street, Babbitt, and Arrowsmith (
Assignment Five Sinclair LewisBabbitt ). These books played a big role on muckraking the social
corruptions in his time period.
One of the reasons that Lewis s works are so significant is that he has a unique style of writing
and a very revolutionary way of thinking. It is obvious from the book Main Street in which the
story takes place on the Main Street in Gopher Prairie, a small town. People in the story are old
fashioned, very religious, and have little interest in their government. In this story, Carol tries to
reform the village so that it can become more modern and beautiful, but as she tries to introduce
new traditions to the town, she starts to realize that many of the people who live there are not
very welcoming of the social reforms, and they think it is better to settle down and enjoy small
town life ( Main Street ).This work by Lewis satirizes the duplicity, intolerance, and resistance to
change in small

Adjustments to Southwest Airlines Operations
SOUTHWEST OPERATIONS
Although in recent history Southwest Airline did some adjustments to its operation, company
maintained its philosophy and stayed true to its original strategy. When company was established in
1971 its primary focus was to stick to short haul trips, point to point flights, fleet only consisting of
Boeing737s, high frequency flights, low fares, and no international flights. Operating in no frills
philosophy resulted in lower fixed cost which enabled Southwest Airlines opportunity for growth
and created the competitive advantage.
Southwest Airlines also had only a limited participation in computerized reservation systems,
channeling travel agents and customers to book flights through its reservation center. Taking
advantage of technology Southwest was the first national carrier to sell seats from a home page on
the Internet, reaching 81% online bookings via southwest.com in 2010.
COPYCAT LEAGUE
Pioneering services such as providing the ticketless travel helped efficiency and lowered
operational cost. Efforts to lower the fixed cost proved to be a successful formula in achieving
competitive edge for Southwest Airlines. Southwest s success did create numerous imitators. In
earlier days, all competitors eventually went under. Today however, several airlines provide stern
competition. JetBlue Airways based at JFK Airport and Allegiant Travel, successful and
geographically diversified companies. These competitors are in fact able to include both short haul

The Critique Of Dystopian Fiction
The increase in the quantity and array of literature available for young adult readers today
represents a more recent happening. The up and coming belief that the teenage years represent a
stage of life split from both childhood and adulthood. The publishing houses started to publish quite
a few chain of books aimed at young adults and also mature audiences. Through these fictionthere
began a makeover into what contemporary readers think as young adult literature.
This YA literature began to utilize a realistic style combined with a grittier view of life. The world
found its reflection in this brand of literature. The schemes of these fictions were subjects often

Fallout 3 Essay
Mothership Zeta is the final bit of DLC for Fallout and after the previous four attempts I was
hoping that Bethesda had learned enough to let this one end with a bang. The premise is
certainly promising enough. Your character follows a strange signal that leads to a crashed alien
ship but before you can loot anything you are abducted and stripped of all belongings. Aliens are
hardly newcomers to the Fallout universe but an entire DLC set aboard an alien space ship
came as a surprise. I guess space really was the final frontier for Fallout 3 after all the adventures
on, around and below the capitol wasteland. Visually the game is still recognizable as Fallout 3
but only just. The art style is quite different than the main game and previous DLC but is let down
by the linear layout of the levels. The alien computers and corridors are suitably sci fi looking...

Fallout 3 was never a great shooter and stripped of the interesting quests and moral choices you
are left with a linear slog through some uninspiring locations. You encounter some suitably
futuristic alien weaponry and gadgets which are useful since your captives are bullet sponges.
Weapons such as the alien atomizer and disintegrator are nice additions to your arsenal and you
can even take over the alien ship as a home base for your character once you complete the DLC.
The lack of side quests means that most of your time in Mothership Zeta is spent vaporizing aliens
and munching on disgusting alien food for health. The highlight is discovering some fellow
captives who have been plucked from different time periods which provide a nice B movie feel.
Sadly these characters are never really fleshed out and mostly tag along while you do the shooting.
You can hunt around for some truly funny tapes that contain conversations between alien captives

Causes Of Rising Student Debt
For many in the middle class student debt has a strong and relentless grasp on their economic
future. In their article Why Free Higher Ed Can t Wait Jeje Biola and Belinda Rodriguez state
that, Student debt has reached a record total of over $1.3 trillion (6). This has left many people
wondering where this is coming from and wanting change. This number is just too high in the
minds of the average American. In the last few years free collegetuition has been a hot topic in
American politics, as recently as the 2016 presidential race. Candidates such as Bernie Sanders and

These have been hot topics for sometime now but little seems to have happened so far in
regards to legislation and actual action. In the eyes of many free college is nothing more than a
dream at the moment and who could blame them, for alas the government is taking their time, in
no hurry to swiftly respond to the pleas of citizens. However there was a plan in the works that
Catherine Morris describes in her article Pay It Forward . She states, Obama proposed funding
Americas College Promise to the tune of $60 billion and paying for it with a series of taxes
including one controversial and short lived proposal to tax 529 college savings plans (13). This
shows that the government has some willingness to approach the issue, but most likely they have
found that it is going to be more difficult than imagined to apply reform in this area. Another plan
that is currently in use and has a controversial funding method is the Tennessee Promise which
supports college students who are going to attend community colleges for shorter lengths such as
two years. The gray areas start to come in with the funding. Scholarships for four year students are
cut to help students who will be in college for less time and who will subsequently acquire more
debt. Despite these criticisms they are a step in the right direction even if they lay on some
unsteady framework.

Family Relationships With My Family
For two year, the first year my mother left dad, we lived with my maternal grandparents.
Although, I was toddler at the time I still acknowledge their efforts and support for a period my
family needed it the most. They occasionally visited for Christmas and for four of their
granddaughters quince, including mine. I visited them four times in Mexico. Because they live in
Mexico is it hard to keep constant contact with them. But they both had a huge influence and I have
great respect for them. When they visited Nebraska, they stayed in the household for a couples of
weeks. The most important extended familyrelationships are with my mom s sisters and brother
who reside in Nebraska.
The most important relationship outside my immediate family is with my cousin Brenda because
she is my best friend. We are only three months apart from each other and have many similarities.
We attended elementary and high school together. I honestly do not think our parents would have
handle us in the same middle school. We both attend UNL for our undergraduate. This year she
moved to Colorado for graduate school. I spend a lot of time at her house, therefore, her parents
had a huge impact on my upbringing. Her parents, my aunt Carmen and uncle Javier, would also
take my sister and I out for entertainment. Some of those include Disneyland, Worlds of Fun, and
Oceans of Fun. My aunt was very aware of my family relationship and the hostile relationship with
my dad, that I think she also invited us

The Movie The Band One Direction
Have you ever found yourself in awe at the videos of the three year old singing Rudolph the Red
Nosed Reindeer ? It doesn t help either, that the little kid is so cute and chubby you just want to
pinch his or her cheeks and talk to him or her in Barney mode. Well, today with one of the biggest
boy bands, their career is essentially the identical way. The bandOne Direction, is a combination of
five talented, handsome, young men who use their favorable looks to their advantage; basically the
same way the pretentious and self gratifying parent does when they put their child s video up on

One Direction even brings a whole new meaning to the phrase over used love songs.
Although love songs are normally the topic for all artists, it s also the biggest in boy bands. One
Direction started with a love song and is most likely going to end with one too. In their newest,
well liked songs, You and I, it is all about not having a typical relationship, and no one
understanding their love. The music video was pretty popular, even too many critics. The
Australian production company Oh Yea Wow have accused One Direction and their managers of
regurgitating a video for Clubfeet s song Everything You Wanted. In their song Best Song Ever,
(the music video even broke the world record for most views in 24 hours) One Direction was
once again accused of stealing a song. This time of The Who s track Baba O Riley. When I say
over used, I honestly mean over used. I ve also never understood why they write these songs
about love, when their audience is typically twelve year old girls; the age love shouldn t even be
considered. On their song Midnight Memories, it was also pointed out it has the same similar
structure as Def Leppard s song Pour Some Sugar On Me. In addition, on their very first single
What Makes You Beautiful (I bet you can t guess what it s about!), it s all about a girl not knowing
what she s worth, and how everything about her creates her uniqueness and beauty. This song was
even accused of plagiarism

Hurricane Katrina A Natural Disaster
Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in US history, the perfect storm in one
of the most impoverished parts of the US. The damage from the storm, flooding and the
resulting loss of life and property was astounding. However, I lack the words to describe the
economic impacts of such a disaster to the peoples of the Gulf Coast. As with all major
catastrophic events, even with all the planning in the world it comes down to people helping
people to survive. FEMA, the local and State Government, Emergency response/first responders,
National Guard, and Private Corporate Assistance did what they could to mitigate the damage,
however, the planning for such an event was (in hindsight) far too little and made the emergency
even more dire. I see the responsibility for preparation for future hurricane/natural disasters can be
divided into at least 4 parts: The Federal Government, State/Local officials, private corporations
/industries, and personal responsibilities. Federal Government Continued training and emergency
planning at various Federal agencies. Unfortunately, in the case of chaotic natural disasters,
Human element (looters, gangs, violence) prior to Katrina may not have been fully part of the
emergency response scenarios played out in simulations at a federal/private think tank. This
enigma may never be solved as regional behavior is almost impossible to predict without local
experts in sociological phycology and behavioral science. However,

Urban Water Planning
Introduction:
In this changing global world, urban water systems are the most essential, valuable and sensitive
part of public infrastructure. Different utilities and municipalities are dealing with this
infrastructure with high responsibility and trying to manage and expand this infrastructure properly
for present and future generations [2].
In this present world, some emerging issues should be taken in consideration for future planning as
these issues are going to increase day by day in near future. These most important issues are: rising
population, increasing urbanization, growth in development and climate change. According to
United Nations Department of Economy And Social Affairs (UNDESA), the projected increase of

The application of systematic and effective processes to manage the assets over a whole life cycle
is provided by Whole Life Asset Management (WLAM), in order to ensure that the infrastructure
performance satisfies the intended service and meets the demand of the stakeholders with
minimized corresponding risk and cost [4] [5].
Each utility company or Government faces unique problems. Therefore an asset management plan
(AMP) that gives unique solution to the particular problems that the utility company faces due to
urbanization, while considering the current issues, technologies and time required for planning,
implementation, associated risks and challenges is a necessity to provide.
As an analysis to measure, how WLAM can improve the asset performance of water infrastructure,
this report evaluates a case study carried out by GHD, University of Sydney and p3iC, on one
water approach to urban water management at a city scale, namely that of the city of Sydney (CoS).
The study highlighted the challenges and the problems that are present in the water infrastructure
of the CoS [1].
This report shows where WLAM can be applied at the water infrastructure of the CoS to cope up
with the pressure exerted on the infrastructure for increasing urban population and suggests
methods and techniques that can be applied or utilized in doing so.
The line of sight approach will be developed as a guideline from corporate objectives to final
implementation of an AMP. Line of sight is very

  • 2. Stress and Health Stress and Health Psychology Andrew Arnold March 25, 2010 Ever wonder about how stress affects our bodies and our health? This word stress is thrown around by the media so much it s losing its meaning but have you ever wondered how they define stress? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines stressas a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation. Our text book defines stress as the term used to describe the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses to events that are appraised as threatening or challenging. Stress causing events are called stressors, they can come from external sources or from within us and can scale from relatively mild to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Believe it or not there are such things as good and bad stress. Too much of either can lead to disorders that can control our lives and can help spiral our lives out of control. These disorders can possibly, in a sense, make us do things that we normally wouldn t do. It s almost like an altered uncontrollable state of both mind and body. One of those stress disorders is called acute stress disorder. Acute Stress Disorder, or ASD, is characterized by the development of severe anxiety, dissociative, and other symptoms that occurs within one month after exposure to an extreme traumatic stressor. This disorder was unfortunately the most common suffered by many people after the traumatic events of 9/11. Another stress disorder that is commonly found among returning soldiers from war is called post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that can develop following a traumatic event that threatens your safety or makes you feel helpless. Traumatic events that can lead to PTSD include rape, a natural disaster, kidnapping, assaults, car or plane crash, medical procedures especially in young children, and war. According to The National Institute of Mental Health, women seem to be more susceptible to PTSD and have almost twice the risk of developing PTSD. It s easy to talk about the major life changes and major stressors but the most of our daily stress come from the smallest things. From minor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Esprit woman describes tis typical customer, should be in their 30s and care more about the quality and value of a product than its price. Most other fast fashion retailers are more price driven and target mainly youngsters aged from 15 to 20 years old. Another major difference between Esprit and Zara is their respective business models. Esprit now has around half of its sales revenue coming from wholesale, while Zara adopts a vertical business and takes control of the sales of all its products. Despite the differences, there are always elements Esprit can learn from Zara. One thing it has learned is how to deliver products faster to the market. For part of its collections since June, Esprit has shortened the time needed to delivering new product lines to stores from the original six months to a period of eight to 12 weeks. The key to achieving this is to cancel the lead time for wholesalers to make selections and orders but ask them to reserve part of their budget for what the clothier will offer them. • 5. Anaacond Unity Of Command During Operation Anaconda Unity of Command during Operation Anaconda Unity of command is defined as all forces operate under a single commander with the requisite authority to direct all forces in pursuit of a common purpose. (Doctrine for the Armed Forces of the United States, 2013, p. V 1). Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Mountain only had tactical control of some of the organizations involved and due to United States Central Command (CENTCOM) not being centrally located this caused delays in decision making. Even though lessons learned from Operation Anaconda has help facilitate unity of command for future operations; unity of command was a newer concept that the Armed Forces had not fully operated under. Leading up to Operation Anaconda Prior to the building up of forces for Operation Anaconda, the command structure was set up that CENTCOM was working with two subordinate commands. Those commands were Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) and Coalition Forces Air Component Command (CFACC). CFLCC and CFACC were both staged in the Persian Gulf and were set to offer support to any operation in Afghanistan from there. Task Force (TF) Dagger was the only ground force located in Afghanistan. (TF) Dagger consisted of 5th Special Operation Forces (SOF) and Central Intelligent Agency (CIA) operations. During the build up and planning of Operation Anaconda, elements of the 10th Mountain Division Staff were deployed into the CENTCOM s area of responsibility. While doing their ... • 7. Essay On Lucretia The purpose of this assignment is to present a brief yet comprehensive formal analysis of the work in question, namely, Joos van Cleve s Lucretia. The painting was completed ca. 1525 by the Flemish artist most likely in Antwerp, where he was highly active from about 1511 until his death in 1540. The paintingis oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroqueperiod. The work depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia, following her rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. The incident bears historical significance as it marks rising popular dissatisfaction of the Roman people with the monarchy, and the transition from the Roman Kingdomto the Roman Republic,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This image of Lucretia is not that of some mythological or religious origin, say, of a venus, for example, part of whose appeal is the depiction of nudity without social repercussion. With respect to the time which bore this painting, it is not unlikely that this inclination to experiment with the female nude was in part sublimated by means of this historical subject matter, however, so say that Lucretia s nudity is illustrated only on account of what would amount to the privilege of moral impunity is perhaps too simple an explanation. It seems much more reasonable to posit that Lucretia s own nudity, especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very expensive clothing (other depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether), is employed by Cleve to highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes have been cleaved open, and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. Whether intended by the artist, this awkward parting of Lucretia s garments over her left shoulder and down through her abdomen adds greatly to the desolation and pity associated with her historical figure. Ultimately, this compositional decision serves to augment the paintings emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Utilitarianism In Beowulf The movie Beowulf can be viewed in many different lights satirical, sad, beautiful, and some may even dare to say, complete garbage. Renowned, American film critic, Roger Ebert wrote a comical review for the movie and Marsha Sinkevich wrote a pointed response to his viewpoint. Ebert believes the movie adaptation of the poem is strictly satirical, ment for laughter, and should be taken for nothing else but pure enjoyment. Sinkevich wrote a response to to Ebert s review stating that she believed the movie was, storytelling at its best. Personally, I agree more with Ebert. I don t think the film did any justice to the epic poem, Beowulf, and should be seen as a comedy. In Robert Ebert s review he writes, When Beowulf slays Grendel, the hero immediately strips naked, because if Grendel wears no clothes, then he won t...which leads to a great deal of Austinpowerism. This deviates from the actual poem in a mediocre attempt to add humor. In reality, Beowulf simply fought Grendel without weapons he was fully clothed, and protected in a blanket of silver armour. If the film showed the battle as it actually occurred in the epic poem, I would have found it much more enjoyable and I assume others, including Ebert, would have too.... The only truth in her statement is that the movie is sad, viewers watch Hrothgar plumet to his suicidal death; an event which did not occur in the original poem. However, since this scene does not follow the actual events of Beowulf, I feel a false sense of sadness is created. All in all, the movie deviates so much from the original poem that it becomes dreadful to watch, especially if the viewer appreciates the actual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Animal Testing Cosmetics On Animals Sure the final product may look pretty, but is it really worth it to test these products that could be toxic, on defenceless animals? When people go shopping for cosmetics they can never picture the product being meant for humans, being used on a defenceless creature such as a bunny or a mouse. The test are not as accurate as testing on a human. In most cases the animals are never able to live the life they were meant to. People using animals to test human products on is pointless for many reasons. Testing cosmetics on animals was a common thing for companies to do in the 1980s. The types of test they perform on animals are the potential for eye irritation, oral acute toxicity, photosensitivity, skin irritation, and many more depending on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some reasons for this are that it does not put people s lives at risk, it is easier for the scientist to observe the results, and that it is supposed to be more affordable than testing on humans. The testing involves multiple experiments and multiple test subjects, but since humans are not used in this form of testing the harm to them is limited unless they are the ones who are performing the test. The contact of the product is minimal to the people performing the test. The results of the testing is easier for the researchers to observe due to the fact that keeping the animals under surveillance is easier to do rather than keeping a human in surveillance. The animals they use for testing usually consist of a rodent of some sort. Most companies want to be able to have a safe product that does not put humans in danger. The toxicity test is one of the most important test and it is extremely harmful to humans Most of the new tests assess acute toxicity, but animal use is highest when testing for the toxic effects of prolonged exposure to chemicals for long term consequences such as cancer and reproductive toxicity. These costly procedures are harder to mimic in vitro and may never be completely replaced. (Abbott). • 12. Cuba Human Geography Cuba has been the source of controversy for decades. Between events such as the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s and the country s ongoing Communist dictatorship, this island nation has not always been thought of as an appealing place to visit. However, Cuba s physical and human geography, especially when coupled with the lifting of the US embargo, give it the potential to be a prime tourismdestination. Cubafirst gained importance in the 1560s, when the Spanish built Havana as a center to keep and build navy ships. During the 1700s, it primarily profited from sugar plantations, though it also made money from cattle farming, tobacco, and coffee. Cuba primarily exported the sugar it produced to Spain, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although only certain Americans will be able to visit Cuba at first, there is the potential to allow free travel between the two countries in the future (Marsh, 2016). Because Americans make up over half of all Caribbean tourist arrivals, they would likely add Cuba to their itineraries when visiting the region. Another potential sector for development is ferry service from Florida to Cuba. These ferries would easily allow Floridians to make quick weekend trips to the Caribbean, and even bring their car by using one of the larger drive on ferries (Padilla McElroy, 2007, p. 650). In addition to ferries, Havana could become a port of call for the hundreds of cruise ships that sail through the Caribbean each week. Although the Port of Havana is currently only suitable for smaller ships with a maximum length of 755 feet, the government is sure to realize the huge potential economic benefit from cruise ships and construct larger areas for them to dock (Port of Havana). Another way Americans will be able to visit Cuba in the future is by plane. • 13. Antoine Henri Jomini The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were turbulent eras generating several changes in the way how commanders led the war. The world owes a debt to one man for interpreting and recording his contributions to strategy and the art of war: Antoine Henri Jomini. The purpose of this paper to explain why the Jomini s theories are a school of thoughts that remain adequate for explaining warfare in the modern era. The importance of logistics, the acceptance of principles of war, and the concept of the geometry of battlespace proposed by Jomini s theories are three broad concepts that are still adequate for explaining in the modern era. Mallick argues that The Principles of War are the principles expressing the rules of military thought and actions that serve as the permanent basis for combat doctrine. Ettrich mentioned that to have a better understanding of how Jomini developed his principles of war creating a set of thoughts that have remained relatively unaltered for approximately two centuries, it is necessary to study his life, his intense studies of war, military career, and the circumstances that shaped his tactical and strategic thinking. Jomini as the same way of other military philosophers, tried to articulate his insights about of the art of war presenting his ideas through a list of maxims or as a list of general truths whose application contributes to success in war, they may be legitimately viewed, as the prototype of the modern principles of war . Jomini s maxims are the closest thought to the modern principles of war. Without considering the fact that Jomini never defined his concepts like general principles of war, nor did he provided precise details of the fundamental principles he wrote, these have been adopted for many armies in the world. In chapter six of Peter Paret s Makers of Modern Strategy: From Machiavelli to the Nuclear Age, John Shy mentioned that many of the nineteenth centuries military leaders accepted Jomini s maxims as valid principles. Ettrich recalls that historically, the Jomini s concepts of principles of war were introduced to the United States in 1817 and were used initially at the US Military Academy; these principles are still valid in the US Army doctrine. Weigley argues that during the United States Civil War, military leaders from both sides embraced concepts and principles learned while studying as contemporaries at the Military Academy prior to the rise and secession of the Confederacy ; as a result, Union and Confederates leaders achieved ... If we look at the story from a postcolonialism perspective, you will see the symbolism of what each character represents. As a child, he probably heard stories, that would later inspire him. I think he wrote this story for two purposes: it s bedtime children s story on the surface, but deeper within, a look into postcolonialism. It has many ethical objections and is portrayed negatively as numerous faults are argued about this case. Doping in sport, is arguably, the most talked about and controversial issue today, with very little change on it. Although, there has been a substantial increase in the use of it, (Dimeo, 2013) states Anti doping regulations were only established in the 1960 s, and serves as a useful reminder of an important but neglected fact about drug use. There is a consistent dispute against doping as, it fluctuates through all sports and have been demonised by society as it is considered as unethical. The International Association of Athletics (IAAF) was the first international sports federation, in 1928, to ban performance enhancing drugs (IAAF, 2003). Followed by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) and The International Olympic Committee (IOC). An athletes engagement in competing is very important. It is their desire to gain any possible advantage to have an edge on their opponents and will do anything in their power to be the best. Doping is discriminated due to, being an unequal playing field and being harmful. This study explores the strengths and weaknesses of these ethical objections and the sociological theories on the use of drugs in sport. A common argument against doping in sport shifts from the concept that, there should be a level playing field for athletes and competition. A connection between doping and wrongness is noticeable as, it is argued that doping is banned because it is cheating or unfair (Meller, Waddington and Hoberman, 2015). In some cases, doping in sports is cheating because the athlete is breaking their contractual obligations, in sports that it is prohibited. (Green, 2004 and Schermer, 2006) define cheating as being the intentional violation of a rule, that is used in common language as an indication to many different forms of deception, and fraud that are intended to gain some benefit for oneself. Slavery In The English Colonies The labor system used in the English colonies of North America experienced developmental shifts from 1607 to 1750 as the institution of slavery became firmly established in law and in society. In 1607, English settlers founded Jamestown, in Virginia. A Dutch ship brought around 20 Africans to the colony in 1619, where they became indentured servants. Both white English people and Africans worked as indentured servants during the seventeenth century, though some Africans served for life. Slaverystrengthened as an institution during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and African slaves became the dominant source of labor. The strengthening of slavery in the English North American colonies and its development into a powerful institution with criteria for determining the roles and rights of slaves were caused by the establishment of the status of slaves among whites and the decline in the popularity of white indentured servants. Policies created by the Virginia General Assembly contributed to the development of the institution of slavery in its colony by legally establishing differences between indentured servants and slaves. There are many different things the body has to maintain and keep under control in order for this to happen and one of these is maintaining the blood glucose level (BGL). Glucose is the preferred fuel source used in the human body. There are several important cells and organs in the body that require a constant supply of glucose to properly function, these include red blood cells and immune cells. The purpose of blood glucose regulation is to keep the body in homeostasis because abnormal levels of glucose can manifest in pathological conditions such as seizures, hypoglycaemic coma, diabetic ketoacidosos (DKA) and possibly even death. The brain and the nervous system are the biggest consumers of circulating glucose and are reliant on a constant supply to maintain optimal function. Failure to maintain BGL within typical parameters 2.5 7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L or mM) will soon cause complications within the body. This assignment will seek to give an overview of the homeostatic system and its components, with emphasis on the regulation of BGL. The reason it escalated was a general misunderstanding of recessions by American policymakers of the time. The U.S. economy was booming in the 1920 s. Companies couldn t afford to expand, and in fact, many had to consolidate in order to cover the margins on their loans. This meant postponing hiring and laying workers off, which caused unemployment to skyrocket. With people now willing to work for less money, wages lessened too. Medicine has become so advanced in the previous centuries that it is a wonder how the medical discoveries of today have been fueled by those made during the Renaissance. As the mindset of those living in Europe during that time changed from religion to self discovery, medical research began to expand and grow to a more scientific approach. Though several were unable to read, they became more aware of themselves and humanity compared to their earlier religious views on life, causing them to take a closer look at the human anatomy. During the English Renaissance, physicians began to advance the scientific study of medicineleading to the development of modern medical practices, and making a more profound impact than previous eras. As more and more citizens began to discover different aspects of life, their approach to medicine began to change as it neared the end of the Medieval Era. Though the Church still controlled most hospitals, physicians began to research and experiment with human anatomy. Before, dissections would be made using animals instead of humans. Soon their practices were dispelled by a physician, Andreas Vesalius. Vesalius conducted his own anatomical dissections on human cadavers and found that Galen s teaching [...] did not always apply to humans (Shane 26). At the time, dissecting a human was against the word of God, to do so would be unholy. The Church began to reconsider after Vesalius findings but they still did not allow the dissection of God fearing bodies. Instead, they allowed for the use of criminal bodies once they were executed, or even while they were still alive as a source of torture ( History of Medicine 2011). Though some may see the practice as inhumane, it opened up many windows for physicians, giving them a chance to go against the Church but still being able to live with the word of God. It was the day my friend came to my house crying to me, lip busted and eye blacked. My initial reaction was shooting up in rage. I was speculating who I would have to seek revenge on. She told me who did this to her. I had to calm myself back down, knowing the results would be the same. The assailant was her boyfriend and father of her soon to be born son. This was not the first time he had put his hands on her, even though this was the first time it was this severe. I asked her what she desired to do knowing that my previous attempts at trying to help her were unsuccessful. I could not figure for the life of me why she would continue to go back to him. She said she continued to stay with him because they had a child on the way. Other motives for individuals staying in abusive relationships are they don t know any better, and they don t want to feel like a failure. When people think of birthing a child they think of togetherness. Usually, people want to be a happy family. A child can be thought of like a fresh start for various people. There are not many people who want to raise a child alone, so they may remain in a situation that may not be best for them. Being a single parent was a hard pill for my McDowell 2 friend to swallow.
