House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters
The art of the ancient Egyptians is known for how consistent it remained for thousands of years. The
Amarna period is significant because it was a brief shift from that consistency under the Pharaoh
Amenhotep IV, (who later changed his named to Akhenaten) his Queen, Nefertiti and later,
Tutankhamen. They began worshipping the sun god Aten, which is evident in the art that was
commissioned. Instead of using strict registers, walls were cluttered with images. (Giuliano). An
example of this stylistic turn is the House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters.
The house altar is a piece that was carved into limestone during the Amarna period of the 18th dynasty
around 1350 BC. It would have been similar to the altars found in homes that the royal couples
subjects could worship. That altar features the royal couple and three of their daughters in a domestic
setting. Akhenaten and Nefertiti are depicted as the only ones with access to the god Aten,
characterized by a sun disk with a cobra engraved in it. The family scene is also warmer and intimate
than those that came before it, (Lorenz) which is marked by the parents holding their children lovingly

The children also appear disproportionate and are depicted as miniature compared to their parents,
which was very atypical from the traditional approach where bodies were perfectly balanced. Another
example of this type of style is the famous Nefertiti bust, which also shows the elongated head and
crown. Conversely, on a sandstone block from Theban tomb 55 of Ramose has an example of
Amenhotep IV s image in the style of his father s reign, where his features are not distorted and are
much more traditional ( Images of Amenhotep IV 89), which is in contrast to how he is depicted in the

Model And Assumptions Of The Royle Nichols Model
Model and Assumptions The Royle Nichols model allows estimation of abundance from multiple
observations of present absent animals without specifically marking the animal. This model represents
the spatial distribution of the species observed. Several assumptions are made but two of them are
fundamental for this model. First one is that the spatial distribution of the animals across survey sites
follows Poisson distribution, and second is the probability of detecting an animal at a site is a function
of how many animals are actually at that site. The Poisson distribution represents the mechanism of
spatial distribution which is simply how many animals occur at each site within the study area. This
model assumes that each site is home to a certain number of species and this number does not change
overtime, which means no deaths, births, immigration or emigration of the observed species. The
Poisson distribution has as the mean parameter λ ( lambda ) which is the mean abundance across the
observed sites.
The probability density formula of for Poisson distribution is F(x)= (e^ λ)* (λ^x)/ x! Where x is the
number of animals at a given site and F(x) is the generic term of any probability distribution. Given
this information we can find the probability that a specific number of animals occupy a given site. The
graph for this formula takes different shapes. For example, if we calculate this function for λ=3 and
x=5 animals, the result is a probability of 0.10. The graph

Nt1310 Unit 6 Exercise 1
Premise: A team of three contestants answer a series seven questions by attempting to diffuse seven
bombs before they explode. On each question, one contestant will have a certain amount of time to
clip the wires that lead to the correct answers on each bomb. Each teammate must answer at least one
question in the game. Successfully diffusing a bomb adds the money at stake for the question to the
team bank. If a contestant clips a wire which leads to an incorrect answer or if time expires, the bomb
explodes, sliming the contestant with a mystery substance (maple syrup, pesto, tomato sauce, etc.),
and eliminates them from the game without adding any money to the team bank. Here s how the game
is structured for each bomb: #1: $5,000; 30 seconds to get 3 right answers (4 possible answers) #2:

The gameplay is well constructed with the rising levels of difficulty, big risk/big reward end game, the
absence of frivolous elements including lifelines and challenging trivia questions. BOOM!
successfully challenges each team s speed, strategy, and the ability to think and move quickly under
pressure. The physical aspect of the show with the contestants manually clipping the wires under the
pressures of time and cash at stake gives you exhilarating feeling as if they are diffusing an actual
bomb in a spy movie. From the hundredth second countdown clock to the five second pauses between
contestants clipping wires to abruptly cutting to commercial breaks during tense moments, the
producers of the FOX version did an wonderful job creating the suspenseful atmosphere on BOOM!.
The impromptu commercial breaks would normally annoy me, but it s far from a deal breaker on this
show considering no gimmicky teasers are added to allow viewers to enjoy each episode without

Piaget Observation
Cognitive Development: Transition between Preoperational Concrete Stages
Piaget believed that human development involves a series of stages and during each stage new
abilities are gained which prepare the individual for the succeeding stages. The purpose of this study is
to evaluate the differences between two stages in Piaget s Cognitive Development Theory—the
preoperational stage and concrete operational stage. Cognitive development refers to how a person
constructs thought processes to gain understanding of his or her world through the interaction of
genetic and learned factors. The development of new cognitive structures (mental maps or schemas)
will be a result of the individual s ability to adapt through mental processes such ... Show more

The power of suggestion, which is how a person says something, demonstrated that Adriana was
easily persuaded to change her mind. When the experimenter performed task two and three, he asked
her why she thought the amounts were the same and she simply explained what she saw visually, but
she always looked for confirmation in her answer from the experimenter. Adriana was then asked
about where she thinks dreams come from and she said they were scary . She couldn t mentally come
up with any other reasons of where she thought they came from, which demonstrated her inability to
think abstractly or logically.
Isaac was able to agree on each task that initially all the quantities were the same, but was easily
influenced once the pennies were moved, the water was placed into a different size glass and the clay
was rolled into a different size shape. He thought the row of pennies that was spread out had more
pennies, the glass that was taller had more water and the clay that was rolled out had more clay. When
asked why he thought there was more, he used concrete physical descriptions about what he saw such
as the glass was taller or of a different size and that the clay was longer . This demonstrated Isaac s
inability to conserve and that he is indeed in the preoperational stage, as Piaget suggests. When
presented with the last task, Isaac first said he didn t know and then once the experimenter encouraged

Research Paper On North Lawndale
From Chicago s 77 neighborhood areas, North Lawndale occupies 3rd for violent crime reports, in the
past 30 days, being robbery the most frequent one, it ranks 20th for property crime, with thefts as the
most common offense, and 4th for quality of life, with criminal damage being the highest one. As big
plants and other factories moved out of the neighborhood, several liquor stores replaced the empty
spaces and crime became the norm. Abraham Burgo, 35 year old, was shot in the neck on January 23,
and on February 1 he died. The victim lived in the 1500 block of South Trumbull Avenue. The register

Abstract
In the last three decades, pulsed high voltage discharge technology has offered promising techniques
for the treatment of wastewaters released to the environment by industry. A significant effort has been
directed towards understanding the processes that occur during the discharge of solutions for a variety
of reactor configurations. This review presents the disadvantages and advantages of different reactors
based on discharge phase. Detailed information is also provided on the principals used in each
technique and the advantages and disadvantages associated with each method. Finally, a discussion on
the different discharge areas is presented.

Themes In I Am Legend
Dystopian movies are based on an unpleasant society and often themes that play out in reality. Stories
are built on universal storytelling elements and literary devices as they intertwine with the central
theme of the story. In the dystopian movie, I Am Legend by Francis Lawrence the primary theme of
loss of humanity is delivered in a manner that reflects these elements. This movie is ultimately based
on a disease that affected the population of New York and the finding of the cure. Reaching the reader
s emotions, symbolism, heroic scenarios and interesting ways in which a story is told structure this
movie and play off of the theme of loss in humanity. Sam, Robert Neville s dog symbolizes the
reflection of loss in humanity with the use of reaching the reader s emotions as Sam serves as Roberts
primary companion in the movie I Am Legend. This plays an important role within the story because
Sam belonged to Roberts daughter Marley. In a flashback Marley had given her father Sam in hopes
of her caring for her Father just before Marley and her Mother had passed away, in that moment
Marley had exchanged her last words with the puppy. Sam you take care of Daddy, (Francis
Lawrence) This was a form of her security blanket in hopes that Sam could secure her Father. This
quote relates to the theme of loss in humanity because they were preparing for that moment of loss. In
the real world, often when we are faced with the loss of another who plays an important role in our

Shawshank Redemption Andy
What would you crawl through to be set free? Shawshank redemption is a spectacular movie full of
excitement and it has many dramatic scenes which have a very large impact on the audience. The film
the Shawshank redemption directed by frank Darabont is truly amazing as it will make you think
about geniuses that made the story. It will definitely leave you wanting to see it again and again. In my
opinion I really enjoyed this film because of the way Andy has entered Shawshank prison, Andy is
brave and an intelligent man who helps others to do the same. However, Shawshank redemption
played by astonishing actors and assisted by effective lighting, camera shots and costume to
emphasise the importance throughout the film. Throughout this movie ... Show more content on

As when we saw Andy we already knew that he was different from the other prisoners, as he was
dressed differently from the rest of them. He was wearing a suit and this represented that he had
power, but now he s looking a bit scruffy and you can see his power slipping away until it s
completely taken away and then he s dressed like them all, unimportant and powerless. An example of
this is when Andy first arrived to Shawshank prison, he was wearing a suit compared to the others
they were untidy and dirty. The first thing that pops into Reds head, he knew Andy was a brainy,
intelligence young man with less friends. This shows how Andy is hopeful and patient, Andy won t
give up on his dream of living the free life he s entitled to, no matter how impossible it seems. Another
example is when Andy enters Shawshank prison and meets the warden, and the other police men s.
Andy is now wearing the prison clothes like the other prisoners; this shows how Andy is no longer
strong and powerful. He is now stuck in a cell with no friends and is powerless. Andy was different
from most prisoners; he was quieter but he never lost his mind like many new prisoners. He kept to
himself, but many prisoners didn t like that because they thought Andy thought he was better than all
of them. Mentally Andy Deferens was kind of in a weird place. He was sitting in prison, but his mind

The Geology Of Ontario Through Its Rocks
Minerals are what make up Rocks and rocks are what make up the geology of an area. In this report,
we will focus on the geology of Ontario through its rocks. We will look at ten difference rocks
samples that have been collected from several different places here in Windsor Ontario including the
beach, the river, gravel pits, along highways and roadways as well in parks and campsites. The rocks
that were collected are all rocks that have formed right here in Ontario.
Canada and especially Ontario have very interesting and much filled geologic pasts. Ontario has many
types of rocks and minerals that have formed and are still forming due to the geology. Ontario has
sedimentary rocks; igneous rock, and metamorphic rock as well as minerals such as gold, silver,
quartz, and many more. In this paper, we will begin by talking about ten rocks that were collected
right here in Windsor Ontario. The rocks were examined from the outside which tended to be
weathered and the inside which were fresh.
Description of rock types:
The collection of the rocks was based on just picking up the most amount of difference looking rocks
that was possible and bringing them home to analyze. This was done for about two months from many
difference locations including campgrounds, beaches, rivers, highways as well as construction sites.
After about two months there were many rocks so I started to analyze and take out the rocks that were
of the same kind. I found many granite, basalt and conglomerate rocks.

Summary Of The Short Story Caged
Silencing and isolating people has always been, andSilencing and isolating people has always been,
and still continues to be a way to conserve normalities in a society. It minimizes the fear that an
outsider may change the typical mindset and values a person is brought up to have within a society. In
the short story Caged by an unknown author, the elders of the village imprisoned Charity for breaking
the rules of the village in hopes that the other women of the village could learn from her mistakes and
would not follow her footsteps. Charity s imprisonment failed to be the example that the elder s were
aiming towards. The elders believed that by isolating Charity in a fence away but in view of the other
village women would be a lesson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With time, the women started to acknowledge Charity less and less to the point that she was merely a
woman behind a fence. They no longer considered the reasons of her being in that fence or the
punishments that came with Charity breaking the village rules.
For Constance, unlike the other women, it does not take her time to overlook the men s reasons and
lessons for segregating Charity. It was against the elder s rules for anyone to help Charity and Charity
was aware of that as well She knew her friend was risking grave punishment just by talking to her (5).
Not only did Constance overlook it from the beginning, but she also continued to secretly provide
necessities for Charity and accompany her at times.
The way that Charity is isolated in Caged symbolizes how females are silenced in the modern world
today so that their ideas do not overpower the standard way of life, often involving male dominance. A
lot of the time, it seems as if the isolating and silencing has been successful but that is not the case for
many circumstances. As women are silenced, it often leads to ignorance from those that oppose
feminism, as shown by both the men and the women in the short story. From Constance, being
someone who supports Charity, there is rebellion. This is shown in the outside world as those are
support feminism, where there is also rebellion. Ignorance and rebellion are not a sign of success, but
are in fact a sign of failure as it also disrupts social norms.

The Wide Spread Problem Of Graffiti Culture
Graffiti art is a world wide spread problem, it does not just occur in one part of the world. As stated,
Professor Snyder, 40, argues that while graffiti culture emerged around the same time as hip hop, in
the early 1970s, graffiti in fact comes from a variety of cultural sources (Chan, 2009, p.1). For a fact,
it is not a specific type of person doing it either, these petty crimes. It could be anyone around you:
Whatever their class, race, ethnicity religion, or age, writers define themselves not by what they look
like, or what language they speak, or what clothes they wear, but by what they do. Their identities are
as writers first, and as members of ethnic, religious, and other subgroups second (Chan, 2009, P.1).
In the beginning it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or why would someone draw that. For example, [f]or many who catch sight of a tag or a mural on a
wall, their glance leads quickly to speculation as to why someone wrote that word or drew an image in
such a place (Halsey Young, 2006, p.3). Many questions asked and are only answered by, [t]he
sociality of shared peer activity is another important reason why writers are attracted to graffiti culture
( Halsey Young, 2006, p.4). Academic writing on graffiti has approached it in a number of ways,
encompassing its analysis as sociological subculture, as juvenile delinquency, as a historical
phenomenon and as a regulatory problem (Halsey Young, 2006, p.2). There is said that many young
adults like to do graffiti art because it causes a rush through there body they get. A reaction that feels
good enough for them to express themselves over graffiti. A theory was shared, [b]roken windows
theory, which holds that low level and petty crimes, if not addressed, create an atmosphere conductive
to more serious and violent crimes (Chan, 2009, p.2). Many believe if they do not stop crimes young
or discipline kids at a young age it cause more violent people in the future. Graffiti is not just a crime
in many ways it is more than people see it as just like shared, I m not trying to make an argument that
graffiti is art and not vandalism, Professor snyder said in a phone interview, I hope I ve made it clear
that it s both (Chan, 2009, p.2). [t]he shifting threshold between art and vandalism : writers reactions
to blank surfaces and clean spaces, with other criminal activities (Halsey Young, 2006, p.2). Every

Relationship Between Teacher And Students
Relationships in the classroom
Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary and
important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher and
the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only a tool
for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work matter. If the
relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and
rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning. A large body of
research supports the idea that a good teacher student relationship helps the students feel better and
have higher academic achievements [2] [5]. A good teacher, one that has a good relationship with
his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their students and help them achieve more
also in the future, when the said teacher is not present anymore.
Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in their
lives and don t usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of a
student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on
various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the way
in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment

Harry Potter Vs. Christians Essay
Who has never dreamed of witches, broomsticks and full moon light? I always wished, when I was
younger, I could turn and do magic like a witch. I even bought little magic kits, but it was nothing like
the magic I wanted to produce. In my teen years, a book called Harry Potter caught my attention. It
took me to a world I thought could only belong in my head. J.K. Rowling brought words of
description to my dreams and brought out the little witch and wizard in many children s lives. I have
not been able to find a more descriptive, memorable, imaginative, and well written books for both

The Harry Potter books make witchcraft and the practice of magic seem appealing and fun; therefore,
parents shouldn t allow their children to read them.
This particular issue is the source of most Christianity complaints and protests against the Harry Potter
books. Christians who express nothing but disdain for the separation of church and state when it
comes to the government promoting Christianity, suddenly become defenders of the principle. They
are arguing that schools are inappropriately promoting religion when students are encouraged to read
Harry Potter.
Even if they are hypocritical, it would matter if they are right because schools shouldn t encourage
students to read books that promote a particular religion. Most people tend to regard censorship as a
bad thing, but if the Harry Potter books really do promote witchcraft then perhaps there haven t been
enough challenges. If the Harry Potter books don t promote witchcraft, but merely include witchcraft
as part of the fabric of a fantasy world, then complaints are less about the books themselves. Then the
problem must be something else, possibly the

The Fight for Bilingual Education and Women’s Rights in...
The Civil Rights movement, during the 1960s and 1970s, created many changes for both American
society and its schools. The transformations were the result of such movements as Bilingual
Education, women s rights activity, and the passing of the Public Law 94 142 legislation. The
incorporation of these new laws and ideas into society all came with their own consequences. Each of
them helped, in some way, to lessen the inequality of minority groups in America, like students whose
primary language was not English, women, and handicapped children. They also faced opposition by
certain groups, who did not feel that their inclusion in American life was necessary. Those fighting for
the minorities, though, were steadfast in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third approach, bilingual education, suggested teaching the student s native language and English
equally.
According to Urban and Wagoner in American Education: A History, advocates of this last approach
sometimes emphasized biculturalism as well and bilingualism (ibid.).
These attempts were both supported and opposed by various parties.
Those who defended incorporation of bilingual education into American schools included politicians
and other Hispanic leaders, who were trying to prevent assimilation. Opposers included teachers,
Anglo politicians, and some
Hispanic intellectuals , who thought that it was important for the children to assimilate in to the
society (ibid.).
Women s rights activity also became popular in the 1960s, but did not have many large effects on the
schools. Teachers did not want to be involved with the feminists, and so the activists also distanced
themselves from the teachers. The hard work and determination of the feminists did though, bring
about the passing of the Title IX of the Higher Education Act in 1972 (ibid., 320).
This act instilled gender equality in institutions of higher education, and has played a monumental role
in regulating fairness among the sexes in colleges and universities. The Title IX

The Oregon Death With Dignity Act
1. The Oregon Death with Dignity Act was put into effect on October 27, 1997. This act allowed
physicians to prescribe to terminally ill patients a lethal dose of medication in order to hasten their
death, even though euthanasia is prohibited in the United States. According to Katrina Hedberg, this
act has been revised by Oregon legislature, but has still been brought to attention of the United States
Supreme Court on raised questions of legality. In order to receive a prescription for the Death with
Dignity Act, the patient must reside in Oregon, be a terminally ill adult, and should be expected to die
within a six month time frame. Along with these requirements, patients must be able to make their
own healthcare decisions. Katrina Hedberg found that over the course of ten years, physicians had
written 546 prescriptions and a total of 341 Oregon residents passed away after the lethal dose under
this act. The medications that were prescribed during this time were secobarbital and pentobarbital,
and most patients would pass away within an hour of taking pentobarbital. Many physicians have
reported that patients who requested these prescriptions often had a loss of autonomy and a decrease
in their ability to engage in activities that they enjoyed. The results showed that these factors had
increased over the course of ten years. According to physicians, patient s concerns of pain had also
increased during this time. This is still very controversial, but findings have shown that

Julius Caesar Character Analysis
In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar we read about how William Shakespeare uses the book to portray
many different characteristics or themes through the characters he writes about. Shakespeare is known
as one of the most successful and greatest writers of his time. Having wrote over 37 plays and 154
sonnets in his lifetime which would make it seem to be true. The works surveyed in the preceding
pages have given Shakespeare his status as the greatest writer in English, perhaps in any language.
Like most great artists, he built on foundations laid by other men. The play was set in 44 B.C. Rome.
In the play he as some of the things he writes about is companionship, envy, and betrayal. He shows
these themes through the charters Brutus, Julius, Mark Antony, and Cassius. Julius Caesar was a
skilled writer and was one of the most literate and cultured men of his age. Julius Caesar rose to
prominence through his abilities as a military general and politician to become first emperor of Rome
He was a great leader who was very much appreciated in his time. The story developed was that when
the death of his daughter, Julia, occurred his trust towards Pompey started to deteriorate and he
eventually killed him. With his death, Caesar was made dictator for life. After being crowned, he was
murdered by the conspirators including Brutus (a good friend of his) on March 15, 44 BCE. Caesar
again recorded the battles and political intrigue of this war in his De bellum civile. During his

Role Of Art In The Arts
Can the arts play a role in solving international conflicts? At first, my answer was a no. I mean
international conflicts are complex and far reaching. How could the arts possibly play a role?
However, throughout the day I thought about it more. I thought about how music, novels, films,
paintings can affect us on a very personal level. There have been plenty of times when art has put me
in either the best of moods or in the worst of moods. I then realized that the arts can play a role.
Perhaps not directly, but it can influence culture and culture can influence society which can then
affect the world. The main examples that came to my mind was The Beatles and Bob Marley s One
Love Peace concert. However, before getting into that I want to discuss the benefit concert held by
Ariana Grande after the Manchester terrorist attack.
On May 22nd, 2017 there was a bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England that
killed 22 people and wounded more than 100. I remember when I found out about the bombing. I was
utterly shocked and appalled, especially how some people on social media and the internet were
already making jokes about it. I just didn t understand how someone could do something like that.
However, whenever I found out that Ariana Grande was going to hold a One Love Manchester just
weeks after the attack I was both surprised and moved by it. I respected Ariana Grande and all the
musicians that performed such as: Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay,

Understanding and Preventing Air Pollution
Air pollution is a major problem affecting the entire world. In the United States some progress has

it impacts on the ecosystem and what we can do about it.

incomplete combustion of fossil fuel. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that, when inhaled, combines
with the blood and renders them incapable of carrying oxygen. Methane occurs as a principal
ingredient in natural gas, and is produced by the bacterial decomposition of plant and animal matters.
Methane in the troposphere absorbs heat and causes greenhouse effect ( Gutnik pg. 15).
A sulfur based gas occurs mostly as sulfur dioxide (SO2) which is a colorless, tasteless, foul smelling ,

Throughout our primary and secondary educations, these ideas are emphasized and fine tuned so that

The author of the article, Paul M.E. Shutler, states that of all topics in the history of mathematics,
Egyptian mathematics is the most overlooked. He continues that this is due to our eagerness to
translate these ancient problems into their modern equivalent and then regard it as we would the work

hinders our ability to gain deeper insights on the past, but also opens the door for us to simply brush
off and categorize the magnificent solutions that the Egyptian mathematicians came up with nearly
4,000 years ago as incorrect to our standards. Paul goes on to say that, Anyone who has actually

Foils In Hamlet
Characterization is a critical component of William Shakespeare s writing and is intricately developed
in his play Hamlet. As the protagonist, Hamlet deals with the tragedy of his father s death, and vows to
get revenge when the ghost of his late father informs him the murderer was his Uncle, King Claudius,
currently married to his mother, Queen Gertrude. Although Hamlet appears to be set on his deadly
vengeance, his indecisiveness and major flaw of procrastination becomes evident when compared to
his foils in the play, Prince Fortinbras and Laertes. The literary significance of a foil is to highlight a
key component of the protagonist s character through comparison. Prince Fortinbras and Laertes take
action to avenge the death of their fathers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These three characters have massive similarities when it comes to the circumstances they are placed
in, yet their unique personalities lead them to take very different actions. Hamlet and Laertes share
rage over their individual losses, Hamlet surpasses Prince Fortinbras in motivation and justification
for revenge, yet only Prince Fortinbras and Laertes are able to take action unconditionally to avenge
their fathers. In the play, Hamlet has many chances to avenge his father s death by killing his uncle,
but he fails to do so until the very last moment. While Hamlet could have killed King Claudius by
simply poisoning his food, he went to the extent of maintaining an antic disposition, playing with
Ophelia s heart, lashing out at his mother, and killing an innocent fool (Polonius) eventually ending in
his own death. Although he ultimately achieves his goal by killing King Claudius, Hamlet
subconsciously initiates more problems than are necessary. As the protagonist, Hamlet has a very
complex character developed by Shakespeare through the use of literary foils. Prince Fortinbras and
Laertes are extremely critical to the play since they offer insight into the cause of Hamlet s downward
spiral. Without literary foils to draw attention to Hamlet s internal weakness, it would be difficult for
the audience to determine

Television s Impact On Television
One part of television that has always been a constant in a lot of programs is family. More particular,
the family sitcom and family dramas have been around for years and are still around today. Family
television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented.
However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically
with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen
and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired
from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives
together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while
Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The series even showed them sleeping in separate beds at that
time because we as the audience weren t allowed to see a couple sleep in the same bed. Later in the
series, Lucy became pregnant which wasn t a very common thing to show on television, especially at
that time (Garrison).
Typical families shown on television in the 1950s were a mother, father, and their children. One show
that started to break the mold was My Three Sons which premiered in 1960 and aired until 1972. My
Three Sons was about a widowed father raising his three sons on his own with the help of the kids
grandfather (Taflinger). In a matter of only ten years the family sitcom had

Additionally, many of the locals have issues with the decision to build the wind farm off the coast of
Ocean City. The Ocean City Mayor stated that the residents of the city voiced their large concern with
visual pollution . The residents proposed that the wind farms be built further offshore in hopes to
avoid this issue. Councilman Dennis Dare, also prefers the wind farm be pushed at least eight miles
further offshore to aid in the solution for visual pollution. However, even with the already hefty price
tag of the wind farm, pushing it further out would cost one million dollars per mile. If the wind farm
causes visual pollution, it may result in a decline of tourists and revenue for the city. In 2016, tourists
have spent $16.4 billion dollars at Maryland tourism related businesses, 98% of which are made up of
small local businesses, all of which will suffer great financial droughts in their business. Businesses

The Opera Rigoletto At The Metropolitan Opera
The opera Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera was conducted by Pablo Heras Casado. The three
principal singers were Piotr Beczala as the Duke, Zeljko Lucic as Rigoletto and Olga Peretyatko as
Gilda. This being my first opera, I was surprised by how large and grandiose the house was, which is
in sharp contrast to my typical experience when I see musicals. The production decided to place a
modern twist on the setting of the opera, rather than the original setting of 16th century Italy, the story
is placed in Las Vegas in the 20th century. The set is constructed to reflect that in the first act with a
casino scene complete with neon lights, card tables and roulette. In my opinion, this all seemed to
distract the viewer from the story and the change in setting didn t enhance the production itself. Rather
it made me think about how out of place this all was instead of focusing on the opera itself. The first
act was fairly difficult for me to suspend disbelief and get into the plot of the opera. This had much to
do with me being initially turned off by the casino as the setting for this opera. Although in later acts I
was able to move past the modern set that was only because this set became less pronounced in the
second and third acts.

Cuisine In Southern Food In The Invisible Man
Cuisine in Southern literature has become a character in itself that exposes the secrets of the cultured
south. Conversations about food have offered paths to grasp bigger truths about race and identity,
gender and ethnicity, subjugation and creativity (Edge, 2). The historical past of food presents the truth
of a South that is often forgotten when discussing the evolution of food. Southern food stems from
slavery, agriculture, and traditions of southerners over the centuries. Ralph Ellison uses southern food
in the Invisible Man to represent the elements of southern food exemplifying its true meanings and
associations from history s past. John T. Edge in Potlikker Papers: A Food History of the Modern
South shares the hardships of the past that have become embedded into the culture of southern cuisine.
Southern food embodies a history that has evolved over time and explains why we have come to
believe of exclusive foods as deeply southern. The South is a world so shaped by history and memory
that is difficult to separate myth from reality. The same is true for southern food (Ferris, 3). Southern
foods are rooted in culture and traditions of the past. Real southern food is distinctive, innovative
cuisine that is grounded in the world of local agrarian traditions soil, waters, region, season, flora and
fauna and the influence of global cultures (Ferris, 3). Through agricultural innovation, southern food

Roles Of Women In Tudor England
For this assignment I decided to take a look at the roles of women in Tudor England. The era of Henry
VIII has always been one of my favorite times in history to read and I have enjoyed many books on
his life and those of his wives, the most tragic being that of Ann Boleyn, we have all heard the story of
her life and how she arrested and executed. But what was life like for women during those times?
What rights did women have?
We all seem to think that life now is easier than it was back then with all of the technology we have,
but there are some ways in which life back then was better. In today s world kids have video games to
play and computers to help with homework assignments, in the sixteenth century, kids had chores and
played outside.
If we look back on what life was like for women we can see many things that are different today.
Women didn t have any rights as the laws were made and used by men to limit their women s
freedom. They got married and had children in their early teens, sometimes as young as 12, now
women marry when they want after the age of 18. In the sixteenth century, marriages were arranged
and women didn t meet their prospective husbands until the wedding, and marriage back then was
until parted by death. That was until Anne Boleyn told Henry to form the Church of England so he
could divorce Catherine of Aragon. Another difference was women could not own land even if she
was to inherit it, women had to be married; now women can own all the land they

Beethoven s Waldstein Sonata First Movement
Piano Sonata No. 21 in C major, Opus 53 is one of the most technically challenging and
compositionally ambitious piano sonatas by Beethoven. The name of the sonata, Waldstein , is derived
from Beethoven s dedication, Count Ferdinand Ernst Gabriel von Waldstein of Vienna, a long time
close friend and patron of the composer. Composed from 1803 to 1804, it is one of the most important
pieces of Beethoven s middle period and surpasses all the earlier sonatas in scope, power, and energy.
Like many other major pieces around the time the piece was composed, Beethoven was constantly

The key characteristic of this five note cell is that it is entirely composed of step wise motion. This
feature would affect the melodic and harmonic choices of the movement s composition, as the
movement is almost entirely built on step wise motion. Because of the step wise quality of the
movement, the primary harmonic motion is an oscillation between tonic and dominant chords.
The movement begins quite solidly in C major as the first component of the theme (figure 2), which
we will call component A, is a repeating eight note C major chord which hammers the tonic tonality
into the listeners minds. This component ends with an ascending three note step wise motion in the
right hand into the dominant of the key, with the second note being a sharpened F, temporarily
tonalicizing the dominant, suggesting the idea to the listeners that the beginning C major chords may
instead be serving a subdominant function to G. In measure 3 and 4, the left descends into B, serving
as a bridge to the upcoming flat VII to smooth out the jarring key shift. We will call the right hand
motif in measure 3 as component B and the one in measure 4 as component C. All three motifs would
come back later as important building blocks of the movement. Beethoven confuses the listeners
further as we progress into measure 5. The first four measures are repeated, but the music

There is not a sign that Oganda did sacrifice herself, yet the rain came anyway. The story did not stick
to the main point, which, throughout most of the story, was either Oganda to be sacrificed or the entire
tribe to slowly die because of the drought. For the tribe, she was a hero, and for me, as a reader, she
portrayed this strong woman, who does not go against the ancestors´ words and is ready to die for the
tribe she is a part of. Her being willing to get sacrificed means that she had to say goodbye to her
future. It must be difficult for any young woman like her to watch her future slowly slip away and
know that she will not be there to reach maturity, get married and have children, those were things
Oganda seemed really to want. However, the ending can be interpreted very romantically, as Osinda

The Relationship Between Parent And Family
Parent s: The first step to ensuring your child s safety outside of the home is establishing a healthy
family dynamic based around mutual trust and reliance on each other, to an extent. When you and
your child have a relationship between yourselves that is healthy, you ensure that your child feels safe
in the place that matters most; in their home. When a child feels safe in their home, among their
family, then they are more likely to feel the can communicate when there is something happening in
their lives outside the home that is bothering them or can prove harmful. Without this healthy
dynamic, your child may withhold important information from you that could end up causing a drastic
change in your child s wellbeing.
As important as open communication is between parent and child, it is equally as important to set a
solid set of rules for your child to follow. For example, younger children may not be allowed to cross
the street or leave the yard without an adult with them. Without solid rules for children to follow, then
the relationship between child and parent becomes too lax, and there is no sense of respect of child to
parent. Without a sense of mutual respect between parent and child, the child will then feel that their
parent has no knowledge of what is best for them; even though the rules their parent may try to
enforce rules that are in their best interest to follow.
As far as setting rules and punishments for your child, the ramifications should evolve as the

Renaissance Humanism Research Paper
When you hear the word Humanism you might automatically thing about current definition of
Humanism. This particular essay instead will discuss Renaissance Humanism instead. In this essay, I
will talk about several important facts around Humanism. First, I will define what Humanism is.
Second, I will compare and contrast the core assumptions and attitudes that Humanism brings to
society, culture, and the universe with the assumptions and attitudes that prevailed in Western Europe
before the Renaissance. Last, how did Humanism pose a challenge to the traditional worldview of the
Catholic Church? Renaissance humanism came to be around the thirteenth century during the
intellectual movement which came to dominate European thought during the Renaissance. ... Show

Scholastics emphasized logic, reason and dialectic where Humanists emphasized the study of the
classics and language (Ridenour, 2018). Scholasticism focused on training people who would was as
theologians, on the other hand, humanism focused on creating people who would be ideal citizens in
whatever domain their work was in. The most distinctively difference between the two was in the relm
of the supernatural. In scholasticism, faith in supernatural things was an intrinsic understanding,
whereas, humanism rejects the supernatural as a basis for study of work but placed emphasis on
human reasoning (Ridenour, 2018). Scholasticism and humanism are both historical philosophies that
influenced particular university level teaching methods. It was a school of thought that tried to bring
the ideas of Aristotle and the ideas of the church. Both scholasticism and humanism emphasized at
least some mans participation in our own salvation. They both believed they were Christians and had
to do Christian type work. They believed that all humans are inherently good and that we have free
will. They where the dominate players and thinkers in the renaissance era (Ridenour,

Mississippi Burning History
Mississippi Burning was directed by Alan Parker and written by Chris Gerolmo, their aim for this
American crime thriller film was to portray the events that took place during the FBI investigation into
the murder of three missing civil right workers. The movie was released on December 9,1988, starring
lead actors Alan Ward (Willem Dafoe) and , Rupert Anderson( Gene Hackman), Mississippi at that
time was known for extreme racism and efforts to segregate blacks and whites in every way possible.
The investigation sparked even more anger throughout the community of Mississippi which ultimately
leading to the burning of African American churches, killings, and a gruesome fight the for the truth.
The film Mississippi Burning was quite accurate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plot was entertaining while being very educational. What stood out to me was how relevant this
movie is even today. A black church in Mississippi was set on fire in 2015 as a result of a hate crime,
this goes back to the strategies used in the 50s and 60s to invoke fear simmon from Nydaily news
states. Even today we can learn from the actions taken during that time and reflect on the issues of
today as they have not gone away completely. The director s accurate references which showed though
the characters actions and word choice shed light on what was dark and ugly time in history, the
injustices that African Americans had to face were displayed fairly in spite of the additional drama . I
was able to empathise and grow a deeper interest for this particular time period because the movie was
so moving and emotion for me as a young black person. Although there were a couple exaggerations
when it came to some events, I felt that it added to to the movie rather than taking away credibility.
While having few inaccuracies, they were not completely fantasized but dramatized to create a
positive reaction and response from viewers like us. Alan Ward, the director merely filled in the blanks
to create a wholesome story that did not stay too far from the

John Cage Is The Epitome Of A Cutting Edge Composer
John cage is the epitome of a cutting edge composer. This is due to the fact that cage has achieved an
appreciation for music which is unmatched by any other composer. Cage enjoys sounds because of
their dynamics and their lengths, something other composers usually overlook. This gives him the
advantage to compose music in a unique manner; he can make music that is unmatched by others.
This is what undoubtedly makes him one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. One
significant reason why cage is considered unique is because of his experimentation with unorthodox
instruments such as the prepared piano and tape recorder. This was in efforts to break the musical
boundaries of traditional music in the west, this style was a change from his traditional musical styles
early on in his career, which were more alike to his mentors and followed more of 12 tone style. The
ideas brought forward by cage made him more of a philosopher than a composer, he broke the normal
role of a composer by encouraging people to focus on sounds rather than music and by promoting
eastern philosophies, specifically Zen Buddhism. He has extended his teachings for years to come
after his death by publishing many books such as silence and lectures and writings . Cage always
placed an emphasis on the ideas conveyed by his music more than how they sounded, for example
cage composed a piece in which the performers are silent, only with ambient sounds in the
background. This goes to show

  • 2. House Altar With Akhenaten, Nefertiti And Three Daughters Sarah Gordon Mrs. Jennifer Awes Freeman Art History 1 20 September 2014 House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters The art of the ancient Egyptians is known for how consistent it remained for thousands of years. The Amarna period is significant because it was a brief shift from that consistency under the Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, (who later changed his named to Akhenaten) his Queen, Nefertiti and later, Tutankhamen. They began worshipping the sun god Aten, which is evident in the art that was commissioned. Instead of using strict registers, walls were cluttered with images. (Giuliano). An example of this stylistic turn is the House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters. The house altar is a piece that was carved into limestone during the Amarna period of the 18th dynasty around 1350 BC. It would have been similar to the altars found in homes that the royal couples subjects could worship. That altar features the royal couple and three of their daughters in a domestic setting. Akhenaten and Nefertiti are depicted as the only ones with access to the god Aten, characterized by a sun disk with a cobra engraved in it. The family scene is also warmer and intimate than those that came before it, (Lorenz) which is marked by the parents holding their children lovingly in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conversely, on a sandstone block from Theban tomb 55 of Ramose has an example of Amenhotep IV s image in the style of his father s reign, where his features are not distorted and are much more traditional ( Images of Amenhotep IV 89), which is in contrast to how he is depicted in the Amarna ... • 3. Model And Assumptions Of The Royle Nichols Model Model and Assumptions The Royle Nichols model allows estimation of abundance from multiple observations of present absent animals without specifically marking the animal. This model represents the spatial distribution of the species observed. Several assumptions are made but two of them are fundamental for this model. First one is that the spatial distribution of the animals across survey sites follows Poisson distribution, and second is the probability of detecting an animal at a site is a function of how many animals are actually at that site. The Poisson distribution represents the mechanism of spatial distribution which is simply how many animals occur at each site within the study area. This model assumes that each site is home to a certain number of species and this number does not change overtime, which means no deaths, births, immigration or emigration of the observed species. The Poisson distribution has as the mean parameter λ ( lambda ) which is the mean abundance across the observed sites. The probability density formula of for Poisson distribution is F(x)= (e^ λ)* (λ^x)/ x! Where x is the number of animals at a given site and F(x) is the generic term of any probability distribution. Given this information we can find the probability that a specific number of animals occupy a given site. The graph for this formula takes different shapes. For example, if we calculate this function for λ=3 and x=5 animals, the result is a probability of 0.10. The graph ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On each question, one contestant will have a certain amount of time to clip the wires that lead to the correct answers on each bomb. Each teammate must answer at least one question in the game. Successfully diffusing a bomb adds the money at stake for the question to the team bank. If a contestant clips a wire which leads to an incorrect answer or if time expires, the bomb explodes, sliming the contestant with a mystery substance (maple syrup, pesto, tomato sauce, etc.), and eliminates them from the game without adding any money to the team bank. Here s how the game is structured for each bomb: #1: $5,000; 30 seconds to get 3 right answers (4 possible answers) #2: $10,000; 30 seconds to get 3 right answers (4 possible answers) #3: $15,000; ... • 5. Piaget Observation Cognitive Development: Transition between Preoperational Concrete Stages Piaget believed that human development involves a series of stages and during each stage new abilities are gained which prepare the individual for the succeeding stages. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences between two stages in Piaget s Cognitive Development Theory—the preoperational stage and concrete operational stage. Cognitive development refers to how a person constructs thought processes to gain understanding of his or her world through the interaction of genetic and learned factors. The development of new cognitive structures (mental maps or schemas) will be a result of the individual s ability to adapt through mental processes such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The power of suggestion, which is how a person says something, demonstrated that Adriana was easily persuaded to change her mind. When the experimenter performed task two and three, he asked her why she thought the amounts were the same and she simply explained what she saw visually, but she always looked for confirmation in her answer from the experimenter. Adriana was then asked about where she thinks dreams come from and she said they were scary . She couldn t mentally come up with any other reasons of where she thought they came from, which demonstrated her inability to think abstractly or logically. Isaac was able to agree on each task that initially all the quantities were the same, but was easily influenced once the pennies were moved, the water was placed into a different size glass and the clay was rolled into a different size shape. He thought the row of pennies that was spread out had more pennies, the glass that was taller had more water and the clay that was rolled out had more clay. When asked why he thought there was more, he used concrete physical descriptions about what he saw such as the glass was taller or of a different size and that the clay was longer . This demonstrated Isaac s inability to conserve and that he is indeed in the preoperational stage, as Piaget suggests. • 8. Themes In I Am Legend Dystopian movies are based on an unpleasant society and often themes that play out in reality. Stories are built on universal storytelling elements and literary devices as they intertwine with the central theme of the story. In the dystopian movie, I Am Legend by Francis Lawrence the primary theme of loss of humanity is delivered in a manner that reflects these elements. This movie is ultimately based on a disease that affected the population of New York and the finding of the cure. Reaching the reader s emotions, symbolism, heroic scenarios and interesting ways in which a story is told structure this movie and play off of the theme of loss in humanity. Sam, Robert Neville s dog symbolizes the reflection of loss in humanity with the use of reaching the reader s emotions as Sam serves as Roberts primary companion in the movie I Am Legend. This plays an important role within the story because Sam belonged to Roberts daughter Marley. In a flashback Marley had given her father Sam in hopes of her caring for her Father just before Marley and her Mother had passed away, in that moment Marley had exchanged her last words with the puppy. Sam you take care of Daddy, (Francis Lawrence) This was a form of her security blanket in hopes that Sam could secure her Father. The film the Shawshank redemption directed by frank Darabont is truly amazing as it will make you think about geniuses that made the story. It will definitely leave you wanting to see it again and again. In my opinion I really enjoyed this film because of the way Andy has entered Shawshank prison, Andy is brave and an intelligent man who helps others to do the same. He was wearing a suit and this represented that he had power, but now he s looking a bit scruffy and you can see his power slipping away until it s completely taken away and then he s dressed like them all, unimportant and powerless. An example of this is when Andy first arrived to Shawshank prison, he was wearing a suit compared to the others they were untidy and dirty. The first thing that pops into Reds head, he knew Andy was a brainy, intelligence young man with less friends. This shows how Andy is hopeful and patient, Andy won t give up on his dream of living the free life he s entitled to, no matter how impossible it seems. Another example is when Andy enters Shawshank prison and meets the warden, and the other police men s. Andy is now wearing the prison clothes like the other prisoners; this shows how Andy is no longer strong and powerful. He is now stuck in a cell with no friends and is powerless. In this report, we will focus on the geology of Ontario through its rocks. We will look at ten difference rocks samples that have been collected from several different places here in Windsor Ontario including the beach, the river, gravel pits, along highways and roadways as well in parks and campsites. The rocks that were collected are all rocks that have formed right here in Ontario. Canada and especially Ontario have very interesting and much filled geologic pasts. Ontario has many types of rocks and minerals that have formed and are still forming due to the geology. Ontario has sedimentary rocks; igneous rock, and metamorphic rock as well as minerals such as gold, silver, quartz, and many more. In this paper, we will begin by talking about ten rocks that were collected right here in Windsor Ontario. The rocks were examined from the outside which tended to be weathered and the inside which were fresh. Description of rock types: The collection of the rocks was based on just picking up the most amount of difference looking rocks that was possible and bringing them home to analyze. This was done for about two months from many difference locations including campgrounds, beaches, rivers, highways as well as construction sites. • 12. Summary Of The Short Story Caged Silencing and isolating people has always been, andSilencing and isolating people has always been, and still continues to be a way to conserve normalities in a society. It minimizes the fear that an outsider may change the typical mindset and values a person is brought up to have within a society. In the short story Caged by an unknown author, the elders of the village imprisoned Charity for breaking the rules of the village in hopes that the other women of the village could learn from her mistakes and would not follow her footsteps. Charity s imprisonment failed to be the example that the elder s were aiming towards. With time, the women started to acknowledge Charity less and less to the point that she was merely a woman behind a fence. They no longer considered the reasons of her being in that fence or the punishments that came with Charity breaking the village rules. For Constance, unlike the other women, it does not take her time to overlook the men s reasons and lessons for segregating Charity. It was against the elder s rules for anyone to help Charity and Charity was aware of that as well She knew her friend was risking grave punishment just by talking to her (5). Not only did Constance overlook it from the beginning, but she also continued to secretly provide necessities for Charity and accompany her at times. The way that Charity is isolated in Caged symbolizes how females are silenced in the modern world today so that their ideas do not overpower the standard way of life, often involving male dominance. A lot of the time, it seems as if the isolating and silencing has been successful but that is not the case for many circumstances. As women are silenced, it often leads to ignorance from those that oppose feminism, as shown by both the men and the women in the short story. From Constance, being someone who supports Charity, there is rebellion. This is shown in the outside world as those are support feminism, where there is also rebellion. Ignorance and rebellion are not a sign of success, but are in fact a sign of failure as it also disrupts social norms. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As stated, Professor Snyder, 40, argues that while graffiti culture emerged around the same time as hip hop, in the early 1970s, graffiti in fact comes from a variety of cultural sources (Chan, 2009, p.1). For a fact, it is not a specific type of person doing it either, these petty crimes. It could be anyone around you: Whatever their class, race, ethnicity religion, or age, writers define themselves not by what they look like, or what language they speak, or what clothes they wear, but by what they do. Many questions asked and are only answered by, [t]he sociality of shared peer activity is another important reason why writers are attracted to graffiti culture ( Halsey Young, 2006, p.4). Academic writing on graffiti has approached it in a number of ways, encompassing its analysis as sociological subculture, as juvenile delinquency, as a historical phenomenon and as a regulatory problem (Halsey Young, 2006, p.2). There is said that many young adults like to do graffiti art because it causes a rush through there body they get. A reaction that feels good enough for them to express themselves over graffiti. A theory was shared, [b]roken windows theory, which holds that low level and petty crimes, if not addressed, create an atmosphere conductive to more serious and violent crimes (Chan, 2009, p.2). Many believe if they do not stop crimes young or discipline kids at a young age it cause more violent people in the future. • 14. Relationship Between Teacher And Students Relationships in the classroom Building a relationship between the teacher and the student is not always easy, but it is necessary and important. In the first lecture of this course, the importance of a relationship between the teacher and the students was discussed [1]. Building a good relationship in the classroom setting is not only a tool for building a better learning environment, but also a way to make a teacher s work matter. If the relationship between the teacher and the student is bad, usually the student feels pushed out and rejected and therefore develops a bad relationship with the subject and with learning. A large body of research supports the idea that a good teacher student relationship helps the students feel better and have higher academic achievements [2] [5]. A good teacher, one that has a good relationship with his/her students can manage to instill a growth mindset in their students and help them achieve more also in the future, when the said teacher is not present anymore. Building a relationship takes time and effort, as humans do not immediately accept strangers in their lives and don t usually trust others unless that trust is earned. For a teacher, earning the trust of a student can be a very complicated process, based on different experiences and different views on various topics. There are three main factors that set the basis for the classroom relationships: the way in which we interact, the content of the interactions and the environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The incorporation of these new laws and ideas into society all came with their own consequences. Each of them helped, in some way, to lessen the inequality of minority groups in America, like students whose primary language was not English, women, and handicapped children. Those who defended incorporation of bilingual education into American schools included politicians and other Hispanic leaders, who were trying to prevent assimilation. In order to receive a prescription for the Death with Dignity Act, the patient must reside in Oregon, be a terminally ill adult, and should be expected to die within a six month time frame. Along with these requirements, patients must be able to make their own healthcare decisions. Katrina Hedberg found that over the course of ten years, physicians had written 546 prescriptions and a total of 341 Oregon residents passed away after the lethal dose under this act. The medications that were prescribed during this time were secobarbital and pentobarbital, and most patients would pass away within an hour of taking pentobarbital. Many physicians have reported that patients who requested these prescriptions often had a loss of autonomy and a decrease in their ability to engage in activities that they enjoyed. The results showed that these factors had increased over the course of ten years. According to physicians, patient s concerns of pain had also increased during this time. This is still very controversial, but findings have shown that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How could the arts possibly play a role? However, throughout the day I thought about it more. I thought about how music, novels, films, paintings can affect us on a very personal level. There have been plenty of times when art has put me in either the best of moods or in the worst of moods. I then realized that the arts can play a role. Perhaps not directly, but it can influence culture and culture can influence society which can then affect the world. The main examples that came to my mind was The Beatles and Bob Marley s One Love Peace concert. On May 22nd, 2017 there was a bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England that killed 22 people and wounded more than 100. I remember when I found out about the bombing. In the play, Hamlet has many chances to avenge his father s death by killing his uncle, but he fails to do so until the very last moment. While Hamlet could have killed King Claudius by simply poisoning his food, he went to the extent of maintaining an antic disposition, playing with Ophelia s heart, lashing out at his mother, and killing an innocent fool (Polonius) eventually ending in his own death. Although he ultimately achieves his goal by killing King Claudius, Hamlet subconsciously initiates more problems than are necessary. More particular, the family sitcom and family dramas have been around for years and are still around today. Family television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented. However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The series even showed them sleeping in separate beds at that time because we as the audience weren t allowed to see a couple sleep in the same bed. Later in the series, Lucy became pregnant which wasn t a very common thing to show on television, especially at that time (Garrison). Typical families shown on television in the 1950s were a mother, father, and their children. One show that started to break the mold was My Three Sons which premiered in 1960 and aired until 1972. This being my first opera, I was surprised by how large and grandiose the house was, which is in sharp contrast to my typical experience when I see musicals. The production decided to place a modern twist on the setting of the opera, rather than the original setting of 16th century Italy, the story is placed in Las Vegas in the 20th century. The set is constructed to reflect that in the first act with a casino scene complete with neon lights, card tables and roulette. In my opinion, this all seemed to distract the viewer from the story and the change in setting didn t enhance the production itself. The era of Henry VIII has always been one of my favorite times in history to read and I have enjoyed many books on his life and those of his wives, the most tragic being that of Ann Boleyn, we have all heard the story of her life and how she arrested and executed. But what was life like for women during those times? What rights did women have? We all seem to think that life now is easier than it was back then with all of the technology we have, but there are some ways in which life back then was better. In today s world kids have video games to play and computers to help with homework assignments, in the sixteenth century, kids had chores and played outside. If we look back on what life was like for women we can see many things that are different today. Women didn t have any rights as the laws were made and used by men to limit their women s freedom. They got married and had children in their early teens, sometimes as young as 12, now women marry when they want after the age of 18. In the sixteenth century, marriages were arranged and women didn t meet their prospective husbands until the wedding, and marriage back then was until parted by death. That was until Anne Boleyn told Henry to form the Church of England so he could divorce Catherine of Aragon. Another difference was women could not own land even if she was to inherit it, women had to be married; now women can own all the land they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Composed from 1803 to 1804, it is one of the most important pieces of Beethoven s middle period and surpasses all the earlier sonatas in scope, power, and energy. The key characteristic of this five note cell is that it is entirely composed of step wise motion. This feature would affect the melodic and harmonic choices of the movement s composition, as the movement is almost entirely built on step wise motion. Because of the step wise quality of the movement, the primary harmonic motion is an oscillation between tonic and dominant chords. The movement begins quite solidly in C major as the first component of the theme (figure 2), which we will call component A, is a repeating eight note C major chord which hammers the tonic tonality into the listeners minds. This component ends with an ascending three note step wise motion in the right hand into the dominant of the key, with the second note being a sharpened F, temporarily tonalicizing the dominant, suggesting the idea to the listeners that the beginning C major chords may instead be serving a subdominant function to G. In measure 3 and 4, the left descends into B, serving as a bridge to the upcoming flat VII to smooth out the jarring key shift. We will call the right hand motif in measure 3 as component B and the one in measure 4 as component C. All three motifs would come back later as important building blocks of the movement. Beethoven confuses the listeners further as we progress into measure 5. The first four measures are repeated, but the music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Relationship Between Parent And Family Parent s: The first step to ensuring your child s safety outside of the home is establishing a healthy family dynamic based around mutual trust and reliance on each other, to an extent. When you and your child have a relationship between yourselves that is healthy, you ensure that your child feels safe in the place that matters most; in their home. When a child feels safe in their home, among their family, then they are more likely to feel the can communicate when there is something happening in their lives outside the home that is bothering them or can prove harmful. Without this healthy dynamic, your child may withhold important information from you that could end up causing a drastic change in your child s wellbeing. As important as open communication is between parent and child, it is equally as important to set a solid set of rules for your child to follow. For example, younger children may not be allowed to cross the street or leave the yard without an adult with them. Without solid rules for children to follow, then the relationship between child and parent becomes too lax, and there is no sense of respect of child to parent. Without a sense of mutual respect between parent and child, the child will then feel that their parent has no knowledge of what is best for them; even though the rules their parent may try to enforce rules that are in their best interest to follow. This is due to the fact that cage has achieved an appreciation for music which is unmatched by any other composer. Cage enjoys sounds because of their dynamics and their lengths, something other composers usually overlook. This gives him the advantage to compose music in a unique manner; he can make music that is unmatched by others. This is what undoubtedly makes him one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. One significant reason why cage is considered unique is because of his experimentation with unorthodox instruments such as the prepared piano and tape recorder. This was in efforts to break the musical boundaries of traditional music in the west, this style was a change from his traditional musical styles early on in his career, which were more alike to his mentors and followed more of 12 tone style. The ideas brought forward by cage made him more of a philosopher than a composer, he broke the normal role of a composer by encouraging people to focus on sounds rather than music and by promoting eastern philosophies, specifically Zen Buddhism. He has extended his teachings for years to come after his death by publishing many books such as silence and lectures and writings . Cage always placed an emphasis on the ideas conveyed by his music more than how they sounded, for example cage composed a piece in which the performers are silent, only with ambient sounds in the background.
