The Pros And Cons Of Hacking The Autonomous Vehicles
Back in 2004 when everyone watched the dystopian science film, I, Robot, no one imagined that the
autonomous cars that were shown would one day belong to many Americans. In the 1860 s, Robert
Whitehead invented a self propelled torpedo which gave rise to many new ideas such as autopilots,
auto tillers, and autonomous drones (Weber 3). With the new technology set in place, car developers
are engineering self driving cars known as autonomous cars (Weber 3). Autonomous cars are able to
sense vehicles, humans, and surrounding territory without any human cognition ( Weber 4) These cars
are available in the market today, but they are still a very futuristic design that is being improved to
reach a perfect state. To reach this perfect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This in turn improves the traffic conditions on the road in areas that have high trafficking. When
someone is not stuck in traffic and is able to accelerate to the speed of other cars, they can maximize
on gasoline usage( Standley 12). This way the consumer in Northern Virginia will have to buy less
gasoline, and the gasoline will run a longer way for the autonomous cars. This will also help Northern
Virginia s movement to becoming a greener place. Conclusion Lastly, drivers will have to have some
kind of knowledge about driving a car in case of an emergency and they need to be in charge and take
over, but a person who is disabled will be able to drive an autonomous car. Teenagers and young
adults with cognitive recognition and form will be able to use these cars even if they are not the
normal age of driving a regular car. Some type of testing procedure will need to be put in place. Self
driving cars are progressing day by day which only a decade ago was considered to be in dystopian
literature or in science fiction movies. In many contexts, there can be a lot of information that can be
misleading about the self driving or autonomous cars, its impact on people s daily life, and what will
happen

Cultural Anthropology And The American Society

Cultural Anthropology
Feminist Approach to the American Society
One theoretical approach in the field of cultural anthropology is the Feminist Approach. The feminist
approach is an approach that helped females from all diverse cultures to band together for equal rights
or more freedom for themselves. A feminist theory can be described as an approach to move towards
empowering women worldwide. Feminism has been a problem in any culture from any time in history,
and feminist worldwide are all banding together for one reason: to become independent and highly
powered women. The main goals of feminism are to discuss the importance of women, break the
gender inequality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the later centuries in school girls were depicted to be in home economic classes to learn how to be a
homemaker, whereas boys were sought out to be in math and science classes. As the centuries
progressed society has changed immensely in how men have treated their women and how women
have overcome their typical roles in society. People have always had the impression that society is
driven by males. One big feministic move that women fought for was the right to be able to vote.
Women had never been able to vote because it was thought that men should only have the right to
choose who would be serving us locally and nationally. Liberal feminists thought that this idea was
unfair and that both genders should be able to vote, so they fought for the right for some women to
vote in 1918 and then in 1928 their appeal was approved and all women got the right to be able to
vote.
Another area that feminists fought to change was the view of women in the workplace. Many career
areas have always been depicted as a men only career such as Political, law enforcement, military and
construction. Feminist have taken the challenge to prove that this is a gender equal nation where
women are able to do the same amount of work that men can do if not better than men. In the earlier
centuries when it came to serving in the military you would never find a women serving because they
were known to be very weak and physically unfit to serve in the

Summer Heights High Analysis
The two films of documentary Educating Essex and mockumentary Summer Heights High both have
troublesome teenagers as the centre of the text. Summer Heights High has Jonah, Jonah is from a
Tongan background and is the main trouble maker in the school. Educating Essex is the documentary
of Vinni, Vinni was a bright, likeable star pupil when he came to Passmore Academy school in year 7.
Vinni was affected by the breakdown of his parents marriage, he was unable to emotionally cope and
he went down in a spiral becoming a nuisance in the school. The comparative essay question is asking

Summer Heights High is set in an average year 7 12 school in Australia. They both share some
similarities and differences. One of the major differences between them is how the school in
Educating Essex deals with the atrocious behaviour of Vinni. Vinni used to be a star pupil but he did
not emotionally cope well with the breakdown of his parents marriage. The school refused to expel
him because 80 85% of prison inmates were expelled from high school and his school stood by his
side until the year 10, end of year exams. Educating Essex did not show a meaningful, objective and
realistic portrayal of the modern male experience of school because the character of Vinni was
aggrandized to be a dramatic character.
In the mockumentary Summer Heights High Jonah s background is closely related to Vinni s
behaviour. Jonah has a behaviour of being disruptive, ultimately caused from his mother s death.
Unlike Educating Essex Jonah was expelled because of a threat he made to a teacher. The stereotype
Jonah is designed to portray is typically destructive, rude and stupid behaviour, reflecting why Jonah
was expelled.
Both the characters in Educating Essex and Summer Heights High are exaggerated examples of
showing bad behaviour and utter disobedience, not leading to a meaningful, objective and realistic
portrayal of the modern male experience of school. Both Educating Essex and Summer Heights High

The Chalic Glass Pipe In Aztec Culture
There are many cups in the world. These instruments have been used since the beginning of time in
everyday life. They are defined as petite, bowl shaped containers used for drinking. Cups come in
many shapes, colors and are made out of several types of materials such as glass, plastic, wood, clay,
metal, stone, and china among others. These objects also hold other uses unrelated to drinking. Due to
the cup s pitted structure, it can also be used for holding smaller objects that would otherwise become
easily misplaced. They also can possess cultural, religious, artistic, educational, as well as
architectural significance. It is common knowledge that cups have been used since the beginning of
time. The earliest recorded cups were made of shells and stones. Special cups were fashioned for kings
and queens especially in Aztec culture. They were seen as the only ones worthy of drinking out of
these carefully created and fashioned instruments. These nicely crafted and decorated instruments
showed their importance and impact, the same way their majestic homes did. A cup can also bare
symbolic importance. The Chalice, with its gold exterior and magnificent formation is another prime
example of a cup s religious use. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Characters In True Grit
Can there be some good in villains even though they are contrary to heroes? In the book True Grit,
there are two kinds of villains. Ones with a code of conduct, and ones that just do as they please. It is
thought that all thieves and bandits are considered purely evil, some villains like Lucky Ned Pepper; a
character in the book True Grit, and Leonard Snart from the TV show, The Flash, have specific rules
they go by that could suggest otherwise.
To begin, Leonard Snart, being the most aggressive and elusive, only works with villains that follow a
specific criterion. If they are found guilty of not obeying these rules, they will either be found frozen
or with a hole in their head. He demonstrates this code of conduct by enforcing one of these
statements to his former lackey: You know the rules. We don t shoot guards or cops unless it s the only
option (Berlanti, 4). Though Snart is the most wanted criminal in Central City, he does have standards
that keep him and those he works with, in line when doing a job.
Tom Chaney, on the other hand, does not have any code to direct him. Mattie states this clearly to
Lucky Ned Pepper when she is about to be left behind with Chaney. He will kill me, said I. You have
heard him say it. He has killed my father and now you will let him kill me (Portis, 191). Lucky Ned
orders Chaney not to kill Mattie or else he would not get paid. Later in the book, Chaney grows sick
of Mattie and tries to harm her, but does not succeed.

Willa Cather s My Antonia
In her novel My Antonia, Willa Cather, while writing in a sexist time, calls attention to the power of
the female in life and society through Antonia, Lena Lingard, Tiny Soderball and Frances Harling and
accentuates and celebrates the significance of the matriarchal world by use of Jim Burden as the
narrator. Jim holds an enlightened consciousness of the female because, after spending most of his life
with these women, he sees how they started with nothing ended with a successful life. In a time when
women were expected to be subordinate to men, Cather s female characters defy the stereotype and
prove their self reliance and independence with the accomplishment of a prosperous life. The strength
of the female is primarily revealed to Jim through Antonia, whose determination and confidence show
to him that despite her struggles, she continues to give birth to multiple children which further
triumphs her challenges that led to successes. Since most women are accompanied by a male in life,
Lena proves that even with their absence, success can come from female independence. Frances
serves as a more obvious explanation to how females thrived in a non supported environment because
she has the same job as many men, but victoriously triumphs over them. By declining the conform to
the typical female role, Antonia, Lena, Frances, and Tiny advocate to the female character their
importance in life and society, showing that their absence would be virtually useless to males. Antonia

Developing Private Label Between China And Uk Essay
In recent years, due to the change of own profit model, high inflation, increasing operating costs and
competition from online commerce, traditional retail businesses have grown slowly in China. Chinese
retail business, especially supermarkets need to be transformed and updated. Developing private label
brands is one of the most efficient ways to realise supermarkets transition and updating, it could
reduce costs and improve supply chain system. However, the development of supermarket private
label in China is only in start up stage now which leaves plenty of scope to learn from mistakes and
successes from other businesses. The British retail market is the second largest in Europe, and has the
highest profit margins in the world. Its supermarket private label has developed into a mature stage
(Zhen, 2007). Since there are limited studies in the area of analysing the gap between British and
Chinese supermarket in developing private label, this study will help to stop the gap in literature study
of comparing the development of private label between China and UK. In addition, it may predict the
future developing trend of Chinese private label and benefit Chinese supermarket managers on how to
introduce more successful strategies of private label products in further development on the basis of
British experience.
The author chose this topic due to a personal interest on the development of supermarket, growing up
in a family where most members work in the retail industry.

Catcher s The Rye, A Phenomenal Work Of Literature
Catcher in the Rye Soundtrack Catcher in the Rye was a phenomenal work of literature. The novel has
been able to withstand the test of time without ever making it to the big screen. Present day with a
movie of the bestselling novel is coming soon, every detail must amaze the avid reader of the book.
This includes, lighting, a flawless director, a cluster of A list actors, outstanding scenery, and last but
certainly not least, a soundtrack that will knock the viewer of the movie into a sense of amazement. A
soundtrack can completely devastate a movie. If there is a scene where a character in the scene is
crying because they lost their friend, it would definitely be strange if the music in the background was
Can t Touch This by M.C. Hammer. Soundtracks tell the audience what to feel whether it would be
fear or excitement. With a soundtrack playing a critical position in a movie, the songs that have been
chosen have transcended more than just the scenes they are played in, and turned into the embodiment
of some of the major themes in the movie. A great selection for the opening song would be a song by
Chance the Rapper called Finish Line . On this song, Chance the Rapper appears to just spout
sentences that just come to head like the stream of consciousness like Holden. When Holden goes on
his particular tangents he usually is trying to get to a specific point, a finish line. Coincidentally,
Holden during the entire book has been trying to come to some finish line . With

Air Pollution in California
Air Pollution in California In the 1940 s California was supporting a population of seven million
people and contained 2.8 million registered vehicles. Within the next twenty years the population
more than doubled to reach 16 million while the number of registered vehicles all but tripled
increasing to eight million. This has been a common trend in California s documented history from the
early twentieth century to today. There have been many historical and environmental factors that have
assisted in contributing to increases such as these in California. One such factor was World War II,
from the late 1930 s to 1945, which triggered a boom in the population of California and the beginning
of the urban sprawl. Increases in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one hour Ozone standard has a limit of 0.12 ppm, which means that an Ozone monitoring site
which takes a reading greater than 0.12 ppm of Ozone would be in violation of the one hour standard.
According to the EPA there has not been a violation of the one hour Ozone standard for a number of
years and the amount of chemical pollutants present in the air in California is on the decline (Thomas
Addison BAAQMD). Although most of the United States is lacking in affordable and convenient
public transportation the San Francisco Bay Area offers many different forms of public transportation.
The Bay Area is home to one of the more widely known public transportation systems within
California called the Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART. BART is a multi car electric rail powered
system which travels from the northeast bay to the southeast bay and connects the east bay and
Oakland with San Francisco. One downfall to the system lies in transportation to and from a desired
BART station. The east bay area contains a bus system called the County Connection, which runs
constantly to and from the local BART stations and most residential areas, shopping and business
centers. With a little patience one can get pretty much anywhere in the east bay area using BART and
the County Connection busses. A common benefit of BART lies in its convenience in heavily
trafficked areas and/or during daily commutes and rush hours. BART offers a premier form of

America s Rights Of Utah
It seemed as though the U.S. would never allow Utah to become a state, at least as long as they
practiced polygamy, which was one issue they wouldn t budge on. Republicans stated that it was
Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery.
(Republican Platform of 1856)
By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws
of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the
Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood,
Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S.
government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally
enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of
Utah. (Davis)
In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more
Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in Nebraska s
admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000 to just over
1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. (Dalstrom) Congress hoped that by granting statehood to the
mainly Mormon territory of Utah there will be an influx of non Mormons to balance out the
population. Congress turned out to be accurate. Utah s population at

The Palace Of Versailles As A Symbol Of Wealth, Glory,...
Absolute monarchs in the seventeenth and eighteenth century made sure to increase their power in
order to have absolute authority. These monarchs all had several similar methods to control,
consolidate, and increase power. Methods in these centuries included constructing grand buildings,
controlling the nobles, and stimulating economic revenue. Constructing grand buildings for absolute
monarchs was a symbol of wealth, glory, importance, and power. Louis XIV of France spent an
enormous amount of money to construct the Palace of Versailles. Construction began in 1660, and it
was not until almost 30 years later that the palace was complete. The Palace of Versailles served as

These show Philip II s deeply religious aspect. The rulers of Louis XIV, Peter the Great, and Philip II
all built magnificent buildings to consolidate and grow their power by their dominating influences. In
Europe, absolute monarchs knew that controlling the nobles was key to power. Louis XIV exemplified
this by removing nobles from the royal council and transferring them to his court of Versailles. Once
they were at his court, Louis XIV discretely controlled the nobles by cleverly occupying them with
numerous activities of life in Versailles, none of which included politics. As a result, the nobles
influence over politics diminished, allowing Louis XIV to gain more power. Another absolute
monarch was Peter the Great of Russia. Peter the Great also agreed to the idea of controlling the
aristocracy. However, his way differed from Louis XIV. Peter the Great compelled nobles to shave
their beards and cut their coats at the knees in a bid to Westernize them. Not only that, Peter demanded
that nobles that held land either serve in the military or civil offices. These actions from Peter show
the increase of monarchial power over the landed nobility. To add on, in the eighteenth century, Peter
the Great created the Table of Ranks, which allowed non nobles to become nobles through a serious of
levels. This increased Peter s power since this new nobility was dependent on him, and they

Romeo And Juliet Potion Essay
Love has been a stabilizer and terrorizer for many families for as long as we can remember. In the play
Romeo and Juliet the two main characters, Romeo and Juliet, quickly fall in love. The two do
whatever they can to live happily ever after, together. Romeo and Juliet s deep love for each other
drives them to kill themselves, because they believe it is the only option they have left to be together.
The first time death becomes a thought is shortly after Tybalt s death. Romeo was the guilty murderer
of Tybalt, causing his banishment from Verona. This takes a large toll on Romeo and Juliet s
relationship. As she finds out about Romeo s banishment, Nurse says, Faith, here it is, Romeo is

Taking a Look at Optical Technologies
Q1:
The main pathway of color vision is as following: light‚áíphotoreceptor‚áí bipolar cell ‚áíGanglion
cell‚áí LGN ‚áí cortex‚áí extracortex. Here I will stress some key points of color vision.
1) photoreceptors ( mainly cones, because rods are sensitive to low light level and blind to color)
absorb light, and through photochemical reactions transfer solar energy to electrical energy which can
be indirectly displayed as action potential of cells. There are three cones: L, M, S cones respectively. L
cones are responsible to long wavelength; M for middle wavelength; and S for short wavelength. The
typical receptive field of cones is center and surround pattern. For example, on center Receptive Field
will maximally activate if the surrounding was dark and center was light on; the reverse is true for the
off center RF. There are two complementary theories of color vision: One of them is the dominant and
popular trichromatic theory, which argues that three types of cones (L, M, S) are sufficient to code the
color vision. However, Hering raised a different theory color opponent theory. He argued that there
were four elemental colors (R,Y, G, and B) not three. He also noted the pairing of R G, and of B Y.
Three cone types provides input to two different color opponent ganglion cells. For example, the
opponent neuron that produces the neural response we see as red or green gets excitation from the L
cones and inhibition from the M cones. When the L cones are more active than the M

Racism And Discrimination Coincide With A Lot Of Issues
Maisson Shuman ENC 1102 Dr. Dimock 12/01/2016 Racism and discrimination coincide with a lot of
issues we deal with in the world today. I chose this topic because of many situations; America is
forgoing at this moment of time. Especially with this recent presidential elections. Many do not realize
this type of prejustice also plays a role in sports throughout history and up until this day. One main
issue is religion. I am a Muslim and I am proud to follow the religion of Islam. Many people judge
and have things to say because of the scarf us Muslims choose to wear on our heads. Many girls who
wear head scarfs are discriminated against and nobody seems to want them on their team. Imagine you
love sports, work hard, play games and for the real competitions somebody tells you are not allowed
to wear a piece of clothing on your head. This is what many Muslim women across the globe have to
experience each day. In my opinion these are the types of things that need more media coverage, even
the NFL should speak publicly about. It is not fair that somebody is discriminated against because of
the color of their skin, what religion they choose to follow, or how the live their life. If somebody
wants to and it is their dream and passion he/she should be allowed to play. Others should stress this
argument and do whatever it takes for this to happen and for hate to be diminished. Athletic rivalry,

When I woke up in the morning, my mom had left for work. My dad was singing in the kitchen,

Is Jude Real
Throughout the novel I believe Jude is most real when expressing his feelings for Luke. Not just
admitting them to himself moreover, letting Luke know how he really feels about him. At the
beginning of the novel Jude expresses his interest in Luke despite the fact that he is yet to accept him
as a Facebook friend (Reid,16). Being Facebook friends, is quite a big deal as it means you re cool
with that person. Furthermore, it gives you access to more personal moments in their lives and helps
you understand them better which is something Jude wanted very much so. As the novel progresses,
once can see that Jude and Luke are still very much apart. At one point Jude simply says that he wants

Jude s feelings and attractions towards Luke are certainly not hidden in the novel. Many know that
Jude has a crush on Luke and everyone was interested in it (Reid, 100). It was something people
talked about especially since Jude was very vocal and open about his feelings. It was also of interest to
people since Luke was in a relationship with Madison, who was not every fond of Jude s attraction to
her boyfriend. Finally towards the end of the novel, Jude takes the leap and asks Luke out (Reid, 147).
Jude does so in front of an audience and the response Luke gives him isn t what he was hoping for but
he does it anyways and puts his feelings all on the line. These moments made Jude seem real to me as
they are both brave and vulnerable and something that is certainly relatable. They are brave as Jude
demonstrated his determination to tell Luke how he truly felt. This certainly must not have been easy,
especially with Luke s reaction and if lack of interest throughout the novel. Nevertheless, Jude didn t
back down and he wanted to make sure Luke really knew how serious he was about him. This also
shows vulnerability as Jude risked a

God s Sovereignty Of Eternal Life
There are many great points that Moyer brings out as to how we should evangelize. He is clear on
many aspects of the Gospel, such as using 1 Corinthians 15 to explain what the Gospel is. He also
deals with sin, saving faith, assurance, good works, evangelism in the New Testament, the best way to
evangelize, prayer, boldness in evangelism and our duty as believers to evangelize. For the most part it
is great stuff.
There were some thoughts that were not so positive when I finished reading the book. In an
overarching way, Moyer gives a sense that man accepts a gift in trusting Christ rather than God
choosing man to receive the gift of eternal life by trusting Christ. It may seem like splitting hairs to
some, but what is called into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The good news is that God made a way for man to come back into a right relationship with Him
through the atoning death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. How we can come into a
right relationship with Christ is by realizing our condition of sin and recognizing that without Christ
we will spend eternity in hell apart from God. Oversimplification doesn t make the Gospel clearer
instead it gives a muddy picture of who Christ is and what He did. The Gospel is not that God is here
for you take Him. The Gospel is we are here for God serve Him. The only way we can serve Him is if
we are in right relationship with Him.
Moyer s book stresses emphatically that repentance in salvation is only a changing of the mind and not
a change of the will or actions. When used in a soteriological context, repentance means to change
your mind about whatever is keeping you from trusting Christ and trust Him alone to save you. [2]
Moyer also feels that repentance is not necessary for the sharing of the Gospel to an unbeliever A
comfort we derive from studying repentance is recognizing that we need not apologize for not using
the word repentance in evangelistic presentations. [3]
Moyer does not believe that salvation in any way requires surrendering to Christ. God does not say to
a lost person, You must give me control of your life or I will not save you. He is asking,

The Bombing Of Oklahoma City
The period between 1995 and 2005 is very memorable in America s history. There are several
incidences and occurrences that unfolded which helped in shaping and framing the current United
States of America. The bombing of Oklahoma City is a major epic event that still lingers in the minds
of most Americans. However, there is much to contemplate and deduce based on the incidence of 19th
April 1995. The music industry also experienced drastic changes between this time frame and
analyzing these changes is pivotal in understanding the history of America and may assist in
predicting the changes to be expected within the next one decade. Evolution and advancement in
technology are also a crucial part of the discussion of American history and the emergence of the
digital era. It is, therefore, worth appreciating and acknowledging the past since it forms part of our
identity.
Timothy McVeigh was the main accuser in the case of Oklahoma City bombing. The bomb exploded
during the early morning hours of 19th April 19, 1995. Despite being an ex military officer, Timothy
was the main conspirator, and he used a rented truck to bomb the downtown side of the Oklahoma
City. The accused had parked the truck on the rear part of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building,
which is located in the downtown of Oklahoma City. According to the FBI, the powerful bomb
mounted on the truck was made of a mixture of diesel fuel, agricultural fertilizers and traces of other
chemicals ( Oklahoma City Bombing ).

The Witchcraft Hysteria Of 1692
The witchcraft hysteria of 1692 happened within the Puritan colony known as Salem Massachusetts. It
s important to know that the belief in witchcraft was carried over from their home country, England. In
England, an act of witchcraft was considered treason against the Church of England, not to mention
the king, who was the head of the church, so if one was to turn their back on the church also meant
going against the king. Many acts against witchcraft were passed, the one dated closest to the Salem
witch trials was the Witchcraft Act of 1604 that moved trials of the supposed witches from churches to
actual courts. The fact that they were once held in churches rather than courts seems like a biased
situation to me. The puritans were afraid of witchcraft so having the church conduct the trials of said
witches could only mean that death was certain. The puritan faith to my understanding was a tough
faith to follow, especially for women.
Gender roles were heavily put upon Puritan women, women were seen as inferior beings that needed
to be dominated by a male figure, and those who broke the mold were viewed as dangerous. When
speaking of puritan women and church, women were not allowed to pray with the congregation or
lead a prayer. The fact that women were viewed as dangerous should they not conform to their gender
roles should really show just how ridiculous their belief system was. One can only imagine that the
paranoia of women being witches derived from the belief

The Measurement of Pendulum s Harmonic Motion Lab #2
Abstract
The specific purpose of this experiment was to verify three physical concepts based on Newton s
Laws. These concepts are vector addition, force as a vector, and the law of equilibrium. The densities
of two different objects were compared by measuring their masses and volumes. In this experiment,
two different sets of methods of volume measurement were compared to the density computation of an
object bearing a standard shape. In addition, the density computation was used to determine the
buoyant force acting on different objects. At this point, it was observed that an object maintains a
constant velocity if all the external forces cancel out one another (no net force results from the
unbalanced forces acting on an object). In this case, a force table was used to study Newton s First
Law of Motion. These forces were represented as F1, F2, and F3. Analysis of results obtained from the
experiment proved that the value of F3 determined through calculations was less than the measured
value of F3. In Trial#1, for example, the calculated value of F3 was 211.59g @ 2430 while the
measured value of F3 was 215g @2430, translating to a % difference of 0.5g @20. Although the
primary objectives of the lab were achieved, errors (in particular, static friction) occurred during the
experiment. These errors were observed

Advertising And Media Affect The Image Of Women In The Media
Advertisers display women as more of a sex symbol while the men are displayed normally. In the first
essay, Kilbourne points out an epidemic that still occurs today when Kilbourne states, Sex in
advertising is pornographic because it dehumanizes and objectifies people, especially women, and
because it fetishizes products [...] meet our emotional needs (489). This quote unfolds the truth on
how advertising and media portray women as sex symbols. Both the media and advertising have
women portrayed in a sexual way, which affect the image of women drastically. In advertising
specifically, Solnit points out a problem that occurs in the gaming community when Solnit states,
Women in the online gaming community have been harassed, threatened, and driven out (528). This
quote shows how women in today s world cannot even speak out of a problem of a game design
without getting death threats. In those games woman characters nowadays are simply stretched to the
extremes of sexualizing the women characters. An example of a specific game that has women
portrayed in an overly sexual way is in the Mortal Kombat series. In the game, the women are
portrayed as either sex symbols while on the other hand the male characters would be completely
normal or they are a mutant monster build. The women who try to speak about the displayed images
of women in such video games in result from doing so results in the women receiving massive hate,
which includes death threats. Within Colombo s essay, it

Graphic Causes A Great Impact On The Consumers Mind
The previous mentioned tagline and graphic causes a great impact in the consumers mind because it
evokes both, a feeling or emotion as well as a relation with time; this strategy is called Nostalgia .
Basically, the word Nostalgia means a preference towards objects that were common when one was
younger in adolescence, childhood or even before birth (Holbrook and Schindler, 1991, p.330) or in
another view it can mean when a love of home instinct controls one s emotions and the individual
experiences homesickness (Rutherford and Shaw, 2011). Although Brands know that people are not
only influenced by immediate circumstances, but also by their pasts and they also know that their
consumers cannot return to the past, but they can try to preserve it through nostalgic consumption
activities (Bambauer Sachse and Gierl, n.d.) since, as stated by Orth and Gal (2011), consumption also
acts like a regulator of the mood; meaning that consumers can regulate or calm their emotions by
buying certain product and that s exactly what the black and white adverstiment is all about, Patek
Philippe is not selling just a watch, it s selling a trip to a past experience through Nostalgia.
Now a days, companies are using this strategy to position their products in the marketplace to reach to
their target market and differentiate themselves from competitors (Kessous and Roux, 1998) as well as
a way to stay in the consumers mind by provoking a feeling of a past memory. Furthermore, by using

Social Work As A Social Worker
There are many helping professions. Society has doctors, therapist, teachers, nurses, etc. To help
means to assist, which means to serve. Every business has the infrastructure to serve a need presented
for whatever motives lay behind the person s reasoning. What makes social work idiosyncratic unlike
the rest is the willingness and passion to promote human well being. I yearn and hunger to see growth
of what is already innate. That is the reason psychology became my undeclared major.
My ignorance of the social work role did create misconceptions and fears. I knew I had to be in some
helping profession. I was not sure if I would do so through occupational therapy, psychology,
teaching, or social work. I wanted to be a social worker, but I was afraid of the danger associated with
it by giving way to stereotypes. No one wants to be shot or harassed due to taking someone s child
from a terrible environment. This is what I defined social work as. I was a psychology major with a
niche for social and child developmental psychology. I as three years into the Bachelor of Science
Psychology program and I began to develop a distaste for psychology methodology. The field
appeared to be competitive and only research or clinical driven, which I believed confine the goals I
set for myself. I was tired of rehearing the same old man psychological theories that had a narrow
scope. The competition was not intimidating, but it was unnecessary and defeating to turn out rates of

Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Insanity, the unsoundness of the mind, and madness are topics that are difficult to understand.
However, Edgar Allen Poe s poem, The Raven presents the concept of insanity in an enchanting way.
In this paper, I am going to argue that Poe s use of the image of the raven represents the narrators
budding madness and could possibly be viewed as a symbol for his subconscious mind in the poem.
Poe seems to structure the raven in this way through his abstract language, form, tone, symbolism and
imagery. Although The Raven is rich in symbolism, the plot is actually quite simple. In the poem, the
unnamed speaker is reading and nearly napping in his home alone on a bleak December night when he
hears a tapping at his door. He is in a deep sorrow over the loss of Lenore who is assumed to be the
speaker s deceased wife/lover. He discovers that it is a raven that was tapping at his door and he
begins to speak to the bird who responds only with the phrase nevermore . As the poem ends, the
speaker seems to have been driven into a fit of insanity because of his conversations with the raven.
Like many of Poe s poems the setting of The Raven is dark and gloomy. In the first stanza, we learn
that it is late at night, Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, (1). Moreover,
the speaker suggests that the night was a bleak December , further cementing the dismal tone of the
poem. It seems significant that Poe chose the poem to take place at midnight and in

not all the laws that were put into work made sense and not all applied as they said they would. Things

Comparing Apocalypse Now And Heart Of Darkness
Apocalypse Now a movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola and Heart of Darkness written by Joseph

taken place during the U.S. Vietnam war when a captain named willard accepts a mission to Cambodia
to kill a mad man who has set up his own kingdom of savages and has committed several harsh

In The Heart of Darkness as Marlow approached Kurtz he just sounded plain out crazy, as if his
deranged ways has caught up with himself as he thought he was normal. The tone that Conrad creates
for Kurtz sounds as though he has lost his ways of life and that he is close to a breaking point. Kurtz in
The Heart of Darkness sounded like he accepted his insaness and actually listened to Marlow when he
approaching his arrival to his empire . On the other hand, upon the arrival of Willard to Kurtz s empire
in the Apocalypse Now film Coppola uses sound and the tone of Kurtz to show how defensive he
became as Willard arrived. The tone of Willard s voice was very angry as he felt that Willard was
assaulting his home and his people. Willard was only trying to get near Kurtz as it was his mission
although he was suppose to kill him, and did Willard was seen as the enemy in the situation where
Kurtz was really the criminal. Kurtz was sort of sucked into the life of savages and living a jungle but
took control of the people to create his own kingdom so he fell into their out of control life. Kurtz was
very distinct in his life choices and did not like it when Willard came and disrupted the peace strange
peaceful living that Kurtz developed in the empire of savages. Both of the works The Heart of
Darkness and Apocalypse Now had very different personalities for their main character of Kurtz and

Canterbury Tales And The Pardoner s Tale
In The Canterbury Tales, the poet pilgrim stories written by Geoffrey Chaucer, tells a touching
commentary of religious and political tales. We believe that Chaucer is the narrator of every character
s tale while traveling on the journey to the shrine of Saint Thomas a Becket. The characters on this
journey were of various lifestyles. Their reasons for their pilgrimage and their expectations vary as
each tale is told. Two characters that can relate and then be the opposite of each other were the Parson
and the Pardoner. The Parson is a member of the Clergy Class, or part of the Church. Within the
church he is a parish priest: A holy minded man of good renown There was, and, poor, the Parson to a
town, Yet he was rich in holy thought and work. (Lines 487 489) ... Show more content on

He is pleased with what he has and is not greedy or selfish. The Parson is a devout Christian and keeps
his faith in God even in troubled times. Also, he willing gives portions of his income to those who are
less fortunate, even when he barely has just enough money for himself. Not only does he willingly
give his money to the poor but he practices what he preaches. He knew God s word well and was able
to preach and teach it to parishioners. Patient in the face of adversity, the Parson gives

Essay On Islamic Money Market
Islamic Capital Market
Current Position of ICM in Bangladesh
Islamic Money Market
The Bangladesh Bank introduced an Islamic money market that is, the Islamic Interbank Fund Market
in 2012 to help address the temporary and short term liquidity problems and facilitate the liquidity
management of Islamic banks. The central bank acts as custodian in the market. Interbank
transactions, limited to overnight tenors, are based on a pre determined profit share ratio decided by a
central bank committee using Islamic banks deposit rates as a starting reference.
Islamic Funds
A recent development in the equity market was the introduction of the Alliance S P Sharƒ´`ah Index
Fund in September 2013. This open end mutual fund is the first Islamic ... Show more content on

Domestic financing is projected to account for 90.7% of total investments. Bangladesh s demographic
profile also presents significant opportunities for the development and growth of ICM. With a total
population of about 160 million of whom about 90% are Muslims, demand for Sharƒ´`ah compliant
personal investment and financing products and services may grow substantially in the medium to
long term, particularly as the economic growth in the country contributes to an expansion of the
middle income segment.
Challenges in Islamic capital market
The challenge for Muslim countries like Bangladesh is to overcome its late entry into the market
against well established jurisdictions all over the world. Another subsequent challenge would also be
to educate the masses and the other industry stakeholders regarding Islamic Problems and Prospects of
Islamic Capital Market In Bangladesh 59 financial principles, products and investments. The
challenge for them is to motivate authorities to provide favorable platforms and policies to make such
initiatives viable. The Islamic financial operations are subjected to strange rules different from the
ones applicable to the conventional operations; there are a number of challenges being faced by ICM.
For instance, in many cases, the Islamic capital market has had to comply with the regulatory
provisions meant for the conventional system which has an entirely different underlying objective and
approach. Additionally, it should be noted that the

The Size Of A Tiny House
Less is More
According to the Census Bureau, the average American home is about 2,600 square feet. While
national home size continues to rise, there is a growing population of Americans in favor of small and
tiny houses. Reality TV shows including Tiny House Hunting, Tiny House Building, Tiny House
Nation, and Tiny House, Big Living, have brought national attention to the movement. A typical tiny
house falls between 100 and 400 square feet. The tiny house movement is one possible solution for
individual financial and environmental concerns. Most tiny homeowners also cite a simpler lifestyle as
a main factor for choosing to live tiny.
One of the greatest benefits of living in a tiny house is the relatively low cost. The average tiny house
costs around $50,000 but can cost significantly more or less depending on building materials used,
location, and luxuries included. Forbes estimates the cost at $200 to $400 per square foot. This makes
tiny houses a great option for people who can t afford a downpayment on a larger home, but would
rather be putting their money towards owning something rather than paying rent. DIY homebuilders
accumulate expenses over time throughout the building process rather than all at once, which works
well as long as you have somewhere else to live in the meantime. Tiny houses are often seen as a way
to pay off loans or live debt free with the opportunity to spend less time working.
Prefabricated homes can be purchased at nearly every stage of

Nasogastric Tube Analysis
X ray Verification for Nasogastric Tube Placement Nasogastric tubes are placed after a surgical
procedure, ie. whipples, puestows, and gastrectomies, to decompress the stomach or small bowel
(Snaith Flintham, 2014). These tubes are blindly inserted in the operating room normally by
anesthesia once the surgery is complete. By definition, a blindly inserted nasogastric tube is one
inserted without the use of imaging guidance, including fluoroscopy or ultrasound. The two most
common complications of blindly guided tubes are insertion in the lungs and inaccurate placement in
the esophagus. On rare occasions, nasogastric tubes have been lodged in the brain or spinal cord. As a
result, x ray verification has been considered to be the gold standard ... Show more content on

The manager will identify the target groups, in this situation it will be the surgeons, PACU nurses, and
the anesthesia providers. An education plan will be developed by the interdisciplinary team to
educated the required staff. An example of an education plan would be an email updating the staff of
the practice change, along with a copy of the new policy. Also, the chest x ray order would be added to
the surgical order sets, thus making it easier for the order to not be overlooked. It will, additionally,
serve as a reminder to the residents who change services each month. It will be imperative to provide
in services to the anesthesia team on nasogastric tube insertion, particularly for the students and
residents. Per the medical center manual, the policy is required to be current and it must be reviewed
annually and revised, as needed. Once again, it would be the manager and educator to facilitate the
review and revision. This process is very detail oriented and tedious, but it is important to take every
precaution when patient safety is

Comparison Of Dystopias And The New Harmony Society
Utopias and dystopias are two complete opposite societies. A utopia is defined as any real or
imaginary society, place, or state that are considered to be perfect or ideal ( Utopia ). Everyone has a
different idea of what a perfect world would be. This makes creating a utopia for everyone very
difficult. One person s utopia may be a dystopia for another. Dystopias are defined as a society
characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding ( Dystopia ). Both
Oceania and the New Harmony Society started out with the intention of being a utopia; over time,
these two societies changed into dystopias for more than one reason.
Utopias are a great thing: however, most utopias do not remain utopias. With time, these utopias can

Everyone wants to have power and money so eventually the society turns corrupt and certain people
feel inferior to others. The government slowly but surely changes and things go from great to horrible.
Some examples of utopias are The Garden of Eden, Heaven, and for a short period of time, the New
Harmony colony. Examples of dystopias are Present in the book The Hunger Games , the book 1984,
and The New Harmony society.
Both Oceania and New Harmony considered themselves to be a utopia. George Rapp founded a
society that he believed would have a community free of individualism, exploitation, social tension,
and political corruption. When joining the New Harmony society, Members signed over all their
property to the community; they pledged to live in celibacy; and they prayed for the Second Coming
as depicted in Father Rapp s weekly sermons. (Communitarianism). The members must agree to these
guidelines and give their consent in order to be accepted into the society. Once they agree to these
opening guidelines, they must immediately start practicing them. One belief that they practice is that
Reform would be achieved through communal love not violence or coercion meaning, they want to

On the other hand, while Zynga has managed to keep a positive cash flow in operations for 2013, their
cash flow in investment activities were positive for the first time. For a growth company, this could
also be a tell tale sign that the company is at a standstill in deciding what their next project should be.
Profitability Assessment Return on Equity Description: Return on Equity (ROE) indicates what each
owner s dollar is producing in terms of net income that is the rate of return on stockholder dollars.
ROE is a common metric for assessing the value of a firm and most investors look to ROE first when
deciding where to allocate their capital. As such, it is also an important measure for a CEO to monitor.
Present Position: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another way to make the ROE look better is to increase debt financing. An increase in debt on the
balance sheet makes shareholder s equity smaller and thus increases ROE without an increase in
earnings. As the other ratios herein indicate, Zynga has not been utilizing debt to a large extent. So an
increase in debt may help, but the company s main focus should be on increasing revenue. An
argument could be made here that Zynga s low ROE at this stage should be disregarded, given its
circumstances as a relatively new company in a rapidly changing external environment. Investors may
need to accept that Zynga needs to spend money in order to make money. Other indicators would tend
to support this, including the steady rise in ROE itself, which if the trend continues, should bring ROE
into the black by the end of 2014. This trend suggests that Zynga is getting more efficient, possibly
through economies of scale, but it should be expected that research and development remains a
significant expense cutting into equity investor s returns. Return on Assets Description: Return on
Assets (ROA) is synonymous with return on investment. It indicates how well a firm uses its assets to
produce net income. It is calculated by dividing a company s net income by its average total assets for
a given period. Like ROE, ROA is often used as a measurement of firm value by providing solid
insight to the number

Housing In Ancient Rome
Over the past few weeks, we have learned that Roman culture comprised of classism; it determined
what type of positions one could hold in the government or military, and housing is no different. There
were three common types of dwellings during that time; the insulae, the domus, and the villa.
Depending on your wealth, you could own one or more of these types of dwellings. Beginning with
the insulae, these building are similar to apartment buildings we see today. There were multiple levels
in each building, and they were centered around one courtyard. An interesting aspect about insulae
was the ground level consisted of shops; providing residents supplies they need. This type of dwelling
was common for the lower class, as they were smaller and more affordable. Dwellings for the less
fortunate expanded upward, while dwellings for the rich remained ground level but expanded outward.
The domus was a common dwelling for upper class citizens, they were grand homes with multiple
amenities. Furthermore, they displayed some of the beautiful craftsmanship of the Roman culture.
Extra courtyards and pools were dependent upon the resident, but there were some characteristics
customary to this type of home. A compluvium was a large opening in the ceiling of the atrium, and it
was used to let natural light inside the structure. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was common for wealthy families to have two, one for practical use and the other for rest. The villa
designed for practical use was called villa rustica; it comprised of two courtyards, stables, a chicken
coop, and water tanks to feed the livestock. Secondly, they had a villa for relaxation, otherwise known
as villa urbana. Similar to a vacation home, it was designed to be a luxury estate for when they wanted
to get out of the city. These homes generally had swimming pools, steam baths, beautiful gardens, and
rooms for all weather

Eleanor Roosevelt Research Paper Outline
Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 to her father Elliot and her mother Anna. She was
born and raised wealthy, in Manhattan, New York. Eleanor s parents were there for a huge part of her
childhood because they both died when she was very young. At age eight she lost her mom to
diphtheria and at age ten she lost her father to a drunken fall. Before Eleanor s mom died, she made it
clear that she wanted Eleanor to continue her education in London. So she went off to London and
returned when she was eighteen. After she came back she met up with her soon to be husband.
Franklin was a distant cousin of hers, but they didn t see each other a lot in their childhood. After
spending a lot of time with each other, they got married on March 17, 1905, when Eleanor was twenty
years old ( Eleanor Roosevelt ).

Lucy and Franklin were having an affair. At first Eleanor was furious and wanted to a file a divorce.
However, Franklin s mom threatened Franklin if he divorced Eleanor because she thought it looked
unprofessional for a presidential campaign, which he won in 1932 (Taylor 30). In 1933 he was
officially President of America. Eleanor claimed the affair made her a stronger woman. When the
Great Depression broke out in the 1930s Eleanor made as many appearances as she could. In 1933 war
veterans protested in Washington because they were unemployed. The previous year, they were tear
gassed by Herbert Hoover s workers. The second time around, Eleanor talked to them instead of
punishing them (Taylor 33). Women s pay wasn t equal to men s at the time, so Eleanor pushed for the

Artemis Twin Mother
Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo and the daughter of Zeus and Leto. Her mother gave birth to her
on the island of Ortygia and after she was born she immediately helped her mom give birth to her twin
brother and with that ...becoming the protector of childbirth and labour. (Megas, 1997 2017)
She also asked Zeus to grant her eternal chastity and virginity. Artemis focussed on hunting and nature

of wild and tame animals, agriculture, and animal herding. But just as she was the protector of all this
things she also could cause sudden death and diseases with her twin brother Apollo.
Artemis would protect women, children, and animals unless they disgrace her or her family. One day
the wife of Amphion which goes by Niobe was bragging that she was superior from Leto because Leto
was only blessed with two children and she was blessed with 14 children. Leto feeling angry told her
children Apollo and Artemis to kill Niobe s children one by one. Artemis killed the females and
Apollo killed the males. They killed them with arrows that were dipped in poison. Niobe s children
remained unburied for nine whole days because Zeus warn anyone that would try to bury them he
would turn those people into stone.
Artemis is granted eternal virginity from her father Zeus but that didn t stop one man named Actaeon.

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Hacking The Autonomous Vehicles Back in 2004 when everyone watched the dystopian science film, I, Robot, no one imagined that the autonomous cars that were shown would one day belong to many Americans. In the 1860 s, Robert Whitehead invented a self propelled torpedo which gave rise to many new ideas such as autopilots, auto tillers, and autonomous drones (Weber 3). With the new technology set in place, car developers are engineering self driving cars known as autonomous cars (Weber 3). Autonomous cars are able to sense vehicles, humans, and surrounding territory without any human cognition ( Weber 4) These cars are available in the market today, but they are still a very futuristic design that is being improved to reach a perfect state. When someone is not stuck in traffic and is able to accelerate to the speed of other cars, they can maximize on gasoline usage( Standley 12). This way the consumer in Northern Virginia will have to buy less gasoline, and the gasoline will run a longer way for the autonomous cars. This will also help Northern Virginia s movement to becoming a greener place. Conclusion Lastly, drivers will have to have some kind of knowledge about driving a car in case of an emergency and they need to be in charge and take over, but a person who is disabled will be able to drive an autonomous car. Teenagers and young adults with cognitive recognition and form will be able to use these cars even if they are not the normal age of driving a regular car. Some type of testing procedure will need to be put in place. Self driving cars are progressing day by day which only a decade ago was considered to be in dystopian literature or in science fiction movies. In many contexts, there can be a lot of information that can be misleading about the self driving or autonomous cars, its impact on people s daily life, and what will happen ... Cultural Anthropology And The American Society Lucas Mochal General Education Task Assignment 1 10/3/2014 Cultural Anthropology Feminist Approach to the American Society One theoretical approach in the field of cultural anthropology is the Feminist Approach. The feminist approach is an approach that helped females from all diverse cultures to band together for equal rights or more freedom for themselves. A feminist theory can be described as an approach to move towards empowering women worldwide. Feminism has been a problem in any culture from any time in history, and feminist worldwide are all banding together for one reason: to become independent and highly powered women. The main goals of feminism are to discuss the importance of women, break the gender inequality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the later centuries in school girls were depicted to be in home economic classes to learn how to be a homemaker, whereas boys were sought out to be in math and science classes. As the centuries progressed society has changed immensely in how men have treated their women and how women have overcome their typical roles in society. People have always had the impression that society is driven by males. One big feministic move that women fought for was the right to be able to vote. Women had never been able to vote because it was thought that men should only have the right to choose who would be serving us locally and nationally. Liberal feminists thought that this idea was unfair and that both genders should be able to vote, so they fought for the right for some women to vote in 1918 and then in 1928 their appeal was approved and all women got the right to be able to vote. Another area that feminists fought to change was the view of women in the workplace. Many career areas have always been depicted as a men only career such as Political, law enforcement, military and construction. Feminist have taken the challenge to prove that this is a gender equal nation where women are able to do the same amount of work that men can do if not better than men. In the earlier centuries when it came to serving in the military you would never find a women serving because they were known to be very weak and physically unfit to serve in the ... Summer Heights High has Jonah, Jonah is from a Tongan background and is the main trouble maker in the school. Educating Essex is the documentary of Vinni, Vinni was a bright, likeable star pupil when he came to Passmore Academy school in year 7. Summer Heights High is set in an average year 7 12 school in Australia. They both share some similarities and differences. One of the major differences between them is how the school in Educating Essex deals with the atrocious behaviour of Vinni. Vinni used to be a star pupil but he did not emotionally cope well with the breakdown of his parents marriage. The school refused to expel him because 80 85% of prison inmates were expelled from high school and his school stood by his side until the year 10, end of year exams. Educating Essex did not show a meaningful, objective and realistic portrayal of the modern male experience of school because the character of Vinni was aggrandized to be a dramatic character. In the mockumentary Summer Heights High Jonah s background is closely related to Vinni s behaviour. Jonah has a behaviour of being disruptive, ultimately caused from his mother s death. Unlike Educating Essex Jonah was expelled because of a threat he made to a teacher. The stereotype Jonah is designed to portray is typically destructive, rude and stupid behaviour, reflecting why Jonah was expelled. Both the characters in Educating Essex and Summer Heights High are exaggerated examples of showing bad behaviour and utter disobedience, not leading to a meaningful, objective and realistic portrayal of the modern male experience of school. • 5. The Chalic Glass Pipe In Aztec Culture There are many cups in the world. These instruments have been used since the beginning of time in everyday life. They are defined as petite, bowl shaped containers used for drinking. Cups come in many shapes, colors and are made out of several types of materials such as glass, plastic, wood, clay, metal, stone, and china among others. These objects also hold other uses unrelated to drinking. Due to the cup s pitted structure, it can also be used for holding smaller objects that would otherwise become easily misplaced. They also can possess cultural, religious, artistic, educational, as well as architectural significance. It is common knowledge that cups have been used since the beginning of time. The earliest recorded cups were made of shells and stones. Special cups were fashioned for kings and queens especially in Aztec culture. They were seen as the only ones worthy of drinking out of these carefully created and fashioned instruments. • 6. Characters In True Grit Can there be some good in villains even though they are contrary to heroes? In the book True Grit, there are two kinds of villains. Ones with a code of conduct, and ones that just do as they please. It is thought that all thieves and bandits are considered purely evil, some villains like Lucky Ned Pepper; a character in the book True Grit, and Leonard Snart from the TV show, The Flash, have specific rules they go by that could suggest otherwise. To begin, Leonard Snart, being the most aggressive and elusive, only works with villains that follow a specific criterion. If they are found guilty of not obeying these rules, they will either be found frozen or with a hole in their head. He demonstrates this code of conduct by enforcing one of these statements to his former lackey: You know the rules. We don t shoot guards or cops unless it s the only option (Berlanti, 4). Though Snart is the most wanted criminal in Central City, he does have standards that keep him and those he works with, in line when doing a job. Tom Chaney, on the other hand, does not have any code to direct him. Mattie states this clearly to Lucky Ned Pepper when she is about to be left behind with Chaney. He will kill me, said I. You have heard him say it. He has killed my father and now you will let him kill me (Portis, 191). Lucky Ned orders Chaney not to kill Mattie or else he would not get paid. • 7. Willa Cather s My Antonia In her novel My Antonia, Willa Cather, while writing in a sexist time, calls attention to the power of the female in life and society through Antonia, Lena Lingard, Tiny Soderball and Frances Harling and accentuates and celebrates the significance of the matriarchal world by use of Jim Burden as the narrator. Jim holds an enlightened consciousness of the female because, after spending most of his life with these women, he sees how they started with nothing ended with a successful life. In a time when women were expected to be subordinate to men, Cather s female characters defy the stereotype and prove their self reliance and independence with the accomplishment of a prosperous life. The strength of the female is primarily revealed to Jim through Antonia, whose determination and confidence show to him that despite her struggles, she continues to give birth to multiple children which further triumphs her challenges that led to successes. Since most women are accompanied by a male in life, Lena proves that even with their absence, success can come from female independence. Frances serves as a more obvious explanation to how females thrived in a non supported environment because she has the same job as many men, but victoriously triumphs over them. By declining the conform to the typical female role, Antonia, Lena, Frances, and Tiny advocate to the female character their importance in life and society, showing that their absence would be virtually useless to males. Developing Private Label Between China And Uk Essay In recent years, due to the change of own profit model, high inflation, increasing operating costs and competition from online commerce, traditional retail businesses have grown slowly in China. Chinese retail business, especially supermarkets need to be transformed and updated. Developing private label brands is one of the most efficient ways to realise supermarkets transition and updating, it could reduce costs and improve supply chain system. However, the development of supermarket private label in China is only in start up stage now which leaves plenty of scope to learn from mistakes and successes from other businesses. The British retail market is the second largest in Europe, and has the highest profit margins in the world. Its supermarket private label has developed into a mature stage (Zhen, 2007). Since there are limited studies in the area of analysing the gap between British and Chinese supermarket in developing private label, this study will help to stop the gap in literature study of comparing the development of private label between China and UK. In addition, it may predict the future developing trend of Chinese private label and benefit Chinese supermarket managers on how to introduce more successful strategies of private label products in further development on the basis of British experience. • 9. Catcher s The Rye, A Phenomenal Work Of Literature Catcher in the Rye Soundtrack Catcher in the Rye was a phenomenal work of literature. The novel has been able to withstand the test of time without ever making it to the big screen. Present day with a movie of the bestselling novel is coming soon, every detail must amaze the avid reader of the book. This includes, lighting, a flawless director, a cluster of A list actors, outstanding scenery, and last but certainly not least, a soundtrack that will knock the viewer of the movie into a sense of amazement. A soundtrack can completely devastate a movie. If there is a scene where a character in the scene is crying because they lost their friend, it would definitely be strange if the music in the background was Can t Touch This by M.C. Hammer. Soundtracks tell the audience what to feel whether it would be fear or excitement. With a soundtrack playing a critical position in a movie, the songs that have been chosen have transcended more than just the scenes they are played in, and turned into the embodiment of some of the major themes in the movie. A great selection for the opening song would be a song by Chance the Rapper called Finish Line . On this song, Chance the Rapper appears to just spout sentences that just come to head like the stream of consciousness like Holden. Republicans stated that it was Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery. (Republican Platform of 1856) By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood, Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S. government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of Utah. (Davis) In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in Nebraska s admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000 to just over 1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. These monarchs all had several similar methods to control, consolidate, and increase power. Methods in these centuries included constructing grand buildings, controlling the nobles, and stimulating economic revenue. Constructing grand buildings for absolute monarchs was a symbol of wealth, glory, importance, and power. Louis XIV of France spent an enormous amount of money to construct the Palace of Versailles. The rulers of Louis XIV, Peter the Great, and Philip II all built magnificent buildings to consolidate and grow their power by their dominating influences. In Europe, absolute monarchs knew that controlling the nobles was key to power. Louis XIV exemplified this by removing nobles from the royal council and transferring them to his court of Versailles. Once they were at his court, Louis XIV discretely controlled the nobles by cleverly occupying them with numerous activities of life in Versailles, none of which included politics. As a result, the nobles influence over politics diminished, allowing Louis XIV to gain more power. Another absolute monarch was Peter the Great of Russia. Peter the Great also agreed to the idea of controlling the aristocracy. However, his way differed from Louis XIV. Peter the Great compelled nobles to shave their beards and cut their coats at the knees in a bid to Westernize them. Not only that, Peter demanded that nobles that held land either serve in the military or civil offices. These actions from Peter show the increase of monarchial power over the landed nobility. To add on, in the eighteenth century, Peter the Great created the Table of Ranks, which allowed non nobles to become nobles through a serious of levels. • 18. Taking a Look at Optical Technologies Q1: The main pathway of color vision is as following: light‚áíphotoreceptor‚áí bipolar cell ‚áíGanglion cell‚áí LGN ‚áí cortex‚áí extracortex. Here I will stress some key points of color vision. 1) photoreceptors ( mainly cones, because rods are sensitive to low light level and blind to color) absorb light, and through photochemical reactions transfer solar energy to electrical energy which can be indirectly displayed as action potential of cells. There are three cones: L, M, S cones respectively. L cones are responsible to long wavelength; M for middle wavelength; and S for short wavelength. The typical receptive field of cones is center and surround pattern. For example, on center Receptive Field will maximally activate if the surrounding was dark and center was light on; the reverse is true for the off center RF. There are two complementary theories of color vision: One of them is the dominant and popular trichromatic theory, which argues that three types of cones (L, M, S) are sufficient to code the color vision. However, Hering raised a different theory color opponent theory. He argued that there were four elemental colors (R,Y, G, and B) not three. He also noted the pairing of R G, and of B Y. Three cone types provides input to two different color opponent ganglion cells. For example, the opponent neuron that produces the neural response we see as red or green gets excitation from the L cones and inhibition from the M cones. I chose this topic because of many situations; America is forgoing at this moment of time. Especially with this recent presidential elections. Many do not realize this type of prejustice also plays a role in sports throughout history and up until this day. One main issue is religion. I am a Muslim and I am proud to follow the religion of Islam. Many people judge and have things to say because of the scarf us Muslims choose to wear on our heads. Many girls who wear head scarfs are discriminated against and nobody seems to want them on their team. Imagine you love sports, work hard, play games and for the real competitions somebody tells you are not allowed to wear a piece of clothing on your head. This is what many Muslim women across the globe have to experience each day. In my opinion these are the types of things that need more media coverage, even the NFL should speak publicly about. It is not fair that somebody is discriminated against because of the color of their skin, what religion they choose to follow, or how the live their life. If somebody wants to and it is their dream and passion he/she should be allowed to play. Others should stress this argument and do whatever it takes for this to happen and for hate to be diminished. For the most part it is great stuff. There were some thoughts that were not so positive when I finished reading the book. The good news is that God made a way for man to come back into a right relationship with Him through the atoning death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. How we can come into a right relationship with Christ is by realizing our condition of sin and recognizing that without Christ we will spend eternity in hell apart from God. Oversimplification doesn t make the Gospel clearer instead it gives a muddy picture of who Christ is and what He did. The Gospel is not that God is here for you take Him. The Gospel is we are here for God serve Him. The only way we can serve Him is if we are in right relationship with Him. Moyer s book stresses emphatically that repentance in salvation is only a changing of the mind and not a change of the will or actions. When used in a soteriological context, repentance means to change your mind about whatever is keeping you from trusting Christ and trust Him alone to save you. [2] Moyer also feels that repentance is not necessary for the sharing of the Gospel to an unbeliever A comfort we derive from studying repentance is recognizing that we need not apologize for not using the word repentance in evangelistic presentations. The bombing of Oklahoma City is a major epic event that still lingers in the minds of most Americans. However, there is much to contemplate and deduce based on the incidence of 19th April 1995. The music industry also experienced drastic changes between this time frame and analyzing these changes is pivotal in understanding the history of America and may assist in predicting the changes to be expected within the next one decade. Evolution and advancement in technology are also a crucial part of the discussion of American history and the emergence of the digital era. It is, therefore, worth appreciating and acknowledging the past since it forms part of our identity. Timothy McVeigh was the main accuser in the case of Oklahoma City bombing. The bomb exploded during the early morning hours of 19th April 19, 1995. • 27. The Witchcraft Hysteria Of 1692 The witchcraft hysteria of 1692 happened within the Puritan colony known as Salem Massachusetts. It s important to know that the belief in witchcraft was carried over from their home country, England. In England, an act of witchcraft was considered treason against the Church of England, not to mention the king, who was the head of the church, so if one was to turn their back on the church also meant going against the king. Many acts against witchcraft were passed, the one dated closest to the Salem witch trials was the Witchcraft Act of 1604 that moved trials of the supposed witches from churches to actual courts. The fact that they were once held in churches rather than courts seems like a biased situation to me. The puritans were afraid of witchcraft so having the church conduct the trials of said witches could only mean that death was certain. The puritan faith to my understanding was a tough faith to follow, especially for women. Gender roles were heavily put upon Puritan women, women were seen as inferior beings that needed to be dominated by a male figure, and those who broke the mold were viewed as dangerous. When speaking of puritan women and church, women were not allowed to pray with the congregation or lead a prayer. The fact that women were viewed as dangerous should they not conform to their gender roles should really show just how ridiculous their belief system was. The Measurement Of Pendulum s Harmonic Motion Lab Essay Name: Kaleen Name of Lab Partners: Matt and Yesh Institution Course Instructor Date of Submission The Measurement of Pendulum s Harmonic Motion Lab #2 Abstract The specific purpose of this experiment was to verify three physical concepts based on Newton s Laws. These concepts are vector addition, force as a vector, and the law of equilibrium. The densities of two different objects were compared by measuring their masses and volumes. In this experiment, two different sets of methods of volume measurement were compared to the density computation of an object bearing a standard shape. In addition, the density computation was used to determine the buoyant force acting on different objects. At this point, it was observed that an object maintains a constant velocity if all the external forces cancel out one another (no net force results from the unbalanced forces acting on an object). In this case, a force table was used to study Newton s First Law of Motion. These forces were represented as F1, F2, and F3. Analysis of results obtained from the experiment proved that the value of F3 determined through calculations was less than the measured value of F3. In Trial#1, for example, the calculated value of F3 was 211.59g @ 2430 while the measured value of F3 was 215g @2430, translating to a % difference of 0.5g @20. Although the primary objectives of the lab were achieved, errors (in particular, static friction) occurred during the experiment. These errors were observed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Graphic Causes A Great Impact On The Consumers Mind The previous mentioned tagline and graphic causes a great impact in the consumers mind because it evokes both, a feeling or emotion as well as a relation with time; this strategy is called Nostalgia . Basically, the word Nostalgia means a preference towards objects that were common when one was younger in adolescence, childhood or even before birth (Holbrook and Schindler, 1991, p.330) or in another view it can mean when a love of home instinct controls one s emotions and the individual experiences homesickness (Rutherford and Shaw, 2011). Although Brands know that people are not only influenced by immediate circumstances, but also by their pasts and they also know that their consumers cannot return to the past, but they can try to preserve it through nostalgic consumption activities (Bambauer Sachse and Gierl, n.d.) since, as stated by Orth and Gal (2011), consumption also acts like a regulator of the mood; meaning that consumers can regulate or calm their emotions by buying certain product and that s exactly what the black and white adverstiment is all about, Patek Philippe is not selling just a watch, it s selling a trip to a past experience through Nostalgia. However, Edgar Allen Poe s poem, The Raven presents the concept of insanity in an enchanting way. In this paper, I am going to argue that Poe s use of the image of the raven represents the narrators budding madness and could possibly be viewed as a symbol for his subconscious mind in the poem. Poe seems to structure the raven in this way through his abstract language, form, tone, symbolism and imagery. Although The Raven is rich in symbolism, the plot is actually quite simple. In the poem, the unnamed speaker is reading and nearly napping in his home alone on a bleak December night when he hears a tapping at his door. He is in a deep sorrow over the loss of Lenore who is assumed to be the speaker s deceased wife/lover. He discovers that it is a raven that was tapping at his door and he begins to speak to the bird who responds only with the phrase nevermore . As the poem ends, the speaker seems to have been driven into a fit of insanity because of his conversations with the raven. Like many of Poe s poems the setting of The Raven is dark and gloomy. In the first stanza, we learn that it is late at night, Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, (1). Moreover, the speaker suggests that the night was a bleak December , further cementing the dismal tone of the poem. It seems significant that Poe chose the poem to take place at midnight and in ... On the other hand, while Zynga has managed to keep a positive cash flow in operations for 2013, their cash flow in investment activities were positive for the first time. For a growth company, this could also be a tell tale sign that the company is at a standstill in deciding what their next project should be. Profitability Assessment Return on Equity Description: Return on Equity (ROE) indicates what each owner s dollar is producing in terms of net income that is the rate of return on stockholder dollars. As such, it is also an important measure for a CEO to monitor. Present Position: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way to make the ROE look better is to increase debt financing. An increase in debt on the balance sheet makes shareholder s equity smaller and thus increases ROE without an increase in earnings. As the other ratios herein indicate, Zynga has not been utilizing debt to a large extent. So an increase in debt may help, but the company s main focus should be on increasing revenue. An argument could be made here that Zynga s low ROE at this stage should be disregarded, given its circumstances as a relatively new company in a rapidly changing external environment. Investors may need to accept that Zynga needs to spend money in order to make money. Other indicators would tend to support this, including the steady rise in ROE itself, which if the trend continues, should bring ROE into the black by the end of 2014. This trend suggests that Zynga is getting more efficient, possibly through economies of scale, but it should be expected that research and development remains a significant expense cutting into equity investor s returns. Return on Assets Description: Return on Assets (ROA) is synonymous with return on investment. It indicates how well a firm uses its assets to produce net income.
