High-Stakes Testing Strategies
powerful impact on the academic achievement and success of all children by viewing them as at
promise rather than at risk and preparing them to reach their full potential. Teaching strategies The
preliminary findings presented here suggest that when teaching a high stakes examination class,
teachers often select their test preparation strategies in ways that unconsciously reflect their
professional identities, identity meaning being recognized as a certain type of person in a given
context (Gee 2001, p. 99). Three such strategies are supplementary tutoring, drill and practice, and
reflexive pedagogical praxis. Beliefs teachers have about the fairness and the benefits of the high

The Influence Of Soccer In America
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world by far. It beats out Cricket, which is the second
most popular sport, by one billion viewers. Soccer is even considered a religion or art in other
countries, but in America soccer isn t as popular as it is in other parts of the world. The biggest
hindrance to soccer s popularity in America was that it became viewed as un American. Soccer
became the most popular sport worldwide, because of how little you need to play the sport. The
only thing that you need is the ball, not even another person is required to practice the sport. Since
soccer requires so little, merchants and missionaries would take soccer with them when they
travelled. When British merchants would go to other countries they would take

Egyptian King Akhenaten Research Paper
The meaning behind Akhenaten
Going against many years of Egyptian worship Akhenaten proclaimed in about the 14th century
B.C that his people were only to worship one god and that was the sun disk Aten. Akhenaten was
called a monotheist maybe even the first to live. Egyptian King Akhenaten s meaning Effective for
Aten . His name was originally Amenhotep IV, he ruled for about 20 years. While in his rule he
move the royal house from Thebes to a new site somewhere in middle Egypt, Akhenaten ordered
marvelous temples to be built for Aten. Akhenaten claimed to be the middle man so to speak
between the people and Aten; this made him like a god in a way to the people because he was the
only person blessed with the ability to be able to talk to Aten. The funny thing is he worshiped
all of the Egyptian gods and was building a temple to one. Then dropped that to build a different
temple to Aten which now he thinks is the one and only god. Before all of this took place how
did Akhenaten come to power in the first place? Right before he took power we know that his
family was already the ruling party after using military force to take over. Which he was the next
to rule the empire in kind of a military enforced domain. He began building a city that he named ...

A Brief Note On Legislation And Poor Oversight
Cause: deregulatory legislation and poor oversight Since 2001, the Federal Reserve System chose
easily monetary policy and reduced loan level again. As a result that America began to decrease
interest in the two half years. FRS totally reduced interests in 13 times. It allowed financial
institution to borrow money for unlimited times. And then, it leaded to increase American money

market stimulated consumers costs appetite and brought investors enthusiasm. At last, it became
inflation. It is clear that there are many causes leaded to the financial crisis in the 2008. However,
America s macro policy is definitely the core reason for the financial crisis. Since 1999, America
began to release financial regulation. It made American financial ecological environment break out
many problems. For example, financial derivative instruments occurred changes, value chain
became longer and longer, which leaded to a subprime crisis. Before subprime crisis happened, the
American government proposed a series of acts and policies involved limited export. American
government adopted different trade barriers for developing countries. And it also limited
technology products which push the domestic products price increase and decrease the job
opportunities. At the same time, the government controlled domestic economical innovation power.
That is also a main reason of financial crisis. Another

Violence And Video Games
According to the Entertainment Software Association, a study in 2015 shows more than one
hundred and fifty million Americans play video games; Around 42% of Americans play
regularly. There is an ongoing debate whether video games cause an increase in violence in
crimes. Video games do not increase violence. Video games affects the lives of the players
positively, and help children learn how to deal with violence. Video games have a positive
effect on the lives of people who play them. Cheryl K. Olson, a public health consultant and
media researcher, states in the Review of General Psychology, Getting wrapped up in a violent
game, it s good. Cause if you re mad, when you come home, you can take your anger out on the
people in the game ( Video GameViolence Does Not Cause Violent Behavior ). Video games are
used as an outlet for players to release their negative feelings. Games help to reduce a player s
aggression, stress, and frustration from a bad day by channeling their anger into a virtual world
instead of reality. According to a study in 2013, organized by Brad J. Bushman, showed people
who did not steal and cheat even though they were given the opportunity were more likely to say
they were attracted to violent video games ( Video Game Violence Does Not Cause Violent
Behavior ). This study suggests that the people who had demonstrated their good morals used

The Christian Faith
One of the foundations of the Christian faith is the belief that God is actively working in His
creation. God did not create the world and leave it to its own fate. Instead, God is still actively
involved in every part of His creation today. This belief is crucial for the Christian scientists in
today s world. Ones who study cells and molecules can discover how astounding and detailed
God, the Creator, is with this belief in mind. God is working through his seen and unseen
creation. In the tiniest cell, God s workmanship can be displayed. God made each cell to have a
specific purpose towards the human body or the plant. Cells and molecules are the work of an
intelligent designer and are not random chances. Without God, cells could not accomplish their
purpose. God places every geneon DNAand makes the cells come together to form a human. For
you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb (Psalm 139:13, NIV).
Through cells and molecules, God creates each unique person on His earth.
When a Christian scientist knows God is at work in His creation, they can have a new perspective
of cells. They will see cells as the design of God instead of results of randomness. Once they
observe and study cells, they can learn more about God. They can learn how detail oriented and
omniscient He is. God is in control not only of the seen world, but also the world we can only see
under the microscope! Each cell and molecule are shaped a specific way to carry out a

Persuasive Essay On Homeschool
Do you hate having to wake up early to get ready and drive to school? Are you sometimes late to
your 1st period of the day? Well if that s you, maybe public schools aren t for you. You should
try homeschool online and forget about being late to your first period ever again. Don t be like
the roosters and be smart. I choose homeschool online and the only thing that I regret is not
switching faster. Here are some Pros and cons When you re deciding which is best for you. The
most important factor is the educationthat you will be receiving. Sometimes is challenging
receiving the best education possible on public schools because of the distractions. If there s no
interruptions, then teacher will have no problem teaching and you will have a pretty dissent
education but that s rear. While in online homeschool there s no interruptions and your teacher will
have a one on one interaction with you to make sure that your are learning your lessons. Also, you
wouldn t be doing the same thing as other students because is based on each individual. Base on (
Homeschool World , 2010) a website about homeschooling, over 2.4 million students are now
learning from home, a 75% increase since 1999. This shows that every year more people are to
switching from public schools to homeschools. Another thing, did you know that students that
decide to do homeschool are doing better in national test than those in public schools? Maybe is
because of the minimum interruptions and more learning, that homeschool online students are out
performing public schools. Another thing that homeschool students are out performing public
school students are communication, daily living, socialization and maturity. Which helps
student on there every day lives. The best part of online home school is the schedule. The
schedule is based on each individual. For example, I work in the mornings and I get out at 5. I
get home and the first thing I do is turned on my laptop and get ready for my next lesson or to
revised one of my lessons. The only tricky part of setting your own schedule is following it.
Everything is possible, so, don t let that stop you. In the other hand if you re in a public school,
you most likely have to follow their schedule. School

Summary Of The Mammoth Cometh
The article, The Mammoth Cometh, uses many appeals and techniques to relay the importance
of de extinction, especially in relation to Novak s passion, the passenger pigeon. Pathos are
effectively used to in giving us (the audience) a personal connection with Ben Novak as the
author takes us on hikes as a boy throughout the badlands near his home, exploring a vast
petrified forest, in North Dakota. Novak frequently came across vertebrae, phalanges and rib
fragments of extinct crocodiles, and other animals. With such a childhood it s no wonder that at
13, Novak pledged his life to the resurrection of extinct animals. A few years later he fell in love
at first sight with passenger pigeons and has since dedicated his life to their cause. The burning
passion he has for these extinct animals can t help but inspire us. He is described as overcome
by awe, sadness and the birds physical beauty, and has visited 339 preserved passenger pigeons.
His solid determination in the revival and restoration of these birds is also unbelievable, trying
first to become a part of a lab already sequencing passenger pigeonDNAand then, when he was not
accepted, writing more than 30 times to an institute to receive a sample of a bird s tissue to do it
himself. Ultimately, he was able to partner with the other lab, but the owner expressed that she was
worried his zeal might interfere with his ability to do serious science.
A combination of logos and pathos like the shocking

Observation Of Literacy Learners
The fourth grade group of literacy learners I worked with was intermediate readers and writers
and yet their individual skill sets varied in some degree. This became evident during the rereads
of a close reading lesson. The lesson consisted of two different passages pertaining to the topic of
hurricanes. However, the lesson was revised by day two to include the second passage. This
decision was based on one of the factors of text complexity involving text structure. Students were
able to compare and contrast the passages, determine the point of views, and synthesize information
involving a hurricane survivor. Choosing a complex text became the most difficult part of the
lesson being my first lesson on the topic. I followed the International ReadingAssociation (IRA) and
National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE) (2014d) guide for choosing complex text, which
stated text, is complex if it is higher than the students independent reading level and if the text...

Before reading the passages, I discussed with students the need to apply their reading strengths and
strategies to help organize key details needed to answer questions. According to the media segment
Metacognition: Thinking About Thinking (Laureate Education, Inc. 2014i) it stated literacy
learners must know when to apply skills for comprehension of text. My group did exactly that as
one student preferred to highlight key details and make notes in the margins. Another student took
her time during silent reading always referring back to the questions. One way to improve future
lessons dealing with metacognitive skills is to display strategies and ability identifiers as a
reminder to apply during any literacy lesson. During the lesson, my own metacognition of literacy
was tested. Since focusing on long passages is quite a challenge, analyzing information according to
each paragraph then organizing by note taking helped for future

How Did Thomas Edison Impact The World
When one thinks of a famous inventor from the past, who is the first person that comes to mind?
Most would say Thomas Edison, who died in 1931, but is still living in a way. Even in the 21st
century, he is surrounding us with his inventions, such as functional incandescent light bulbs, and
even the cell phone you have in your pocket right now. Born in 1847 in Canal Town, Milan, Edison
had a long and successful career as an inventor up until the time of his death in 1931, at the age of
81. He was married to Mary Stilwell until her death in 1884. Shorly after, he married Mina Miller. A
well known American innovator, his most significant and famous inventions include the
phonograph, the motion picture camera, and the long lasting practical electric light bulb. Thanks to

version of light bulbs were more affordable, and convenient to use. Edison s simple invention of the

Dickman, C. R., Australian Nature Conservation Agency, University of Sydney, Invasive Species
Program (Australia). (1996). Overview of the impacts of feral cats on Australian native fauna.
Canberra, ACT: Australian Nature Conservation Agency.
Content Summary
In this book the authors review impact of feral cats. Feral cats have major or minor impacts on
the Australian native wildlife some of which are competitive, amensal, and predatory. The
Competitive impact caused by cats is on large predatory species by loss of prey. Amensal impact
is most likely cause by transmission of diseases. And predatory impact on native wildlife has been
identified by historical evidence. Many conclusions can be made from this evidence. Mammals
make up a large part of a feral cats diet. They target mammals weighing up to 2kg, and birds up to
1kg. But they prefer prey weighing less then approximately 200grams in Mainland Australia. ...

Australia has the worlds worst record for extinct mammals, 28 species and sub species mostly
marsupials since European explorers and settlers arrived. Most of these extinctions have been
linked to feral cats and other introduced species. Cats have developed there skills over millions of
years and they a fast and silent killers. The US Fish and Wildlife Service has revealed that feral

However, Bp has demonstrated a disturbing measure of corrupt behavior, including government
wrongdoings. Legitimate issues began the first time in 1998, when a temporary worker was
gotten wrongfully dumping several gallons of dangerous waste into lustgraten well. An
investigation of state records shows that the company is the most exceedingly awful in the
business as far as oil slicks and put people in harm. It was also revealed that many of the rig
workers had made reported about issues on the oil rig and were ignored by Bp and that shows
how the company was reported by the issues by whistle blowers and they were ignored by the
company. I believe that in any team project the company should have the obligation to stop any
further issues and provide the safety of the workers if there was reported an issue. It was known
that the Blowout Preventer was one of the main reasons that the spill was as big as it was.
According to a company Transocean which tested the Blowout preventer many times, but it was
suggested that it was defective but Bp ignored the failure of the Blowout prevented. I think it was
the company s fault the part was not fixed and taken proper response to it but it wasn t and that

Confucianism, Daoism, And Legalism In Evergreen Middle School
Introduction Confucius once said, oppressive government is fiercer and more feared than a tiger
(Source #2.) Confucianism is one of the three main Chinese philosophies created during the warring
states period, a time when rulers fought others for more power and land. Another philosophy
created during the same period was Daoism. Daoism was created by Laozi. Some Daoism beliefs
include that harmony with nature leads to peace and happiness and that one should accept
whatever happens. The other main Chinese philosophy was Legalism. Per http://www.ancient.eu

The Bible Is Not A Children s Book Essay
The Bible is not a children s book. Not only is it beyond the length and reading level appropriate
for younger audiences, it often covers what some parents might consider inappropriate topics.
Imagine finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or
children being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear
within the Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic
scholarship of the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a
handful of scholars to study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The
last thirty years have revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars
within this subfield: necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically,
dialogue about ancient Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from
the surrounding geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient
peoples; these topics are no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars,
the majority of academics appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical
practice belonging to the worship of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with
varying degrees of beliefs about the particular conditions during which these controversial customs
were performed.

Narrative Experience Of Ramadan
The tutorial class was filled with anticipation. Something was going to happen. Every Muslim

The Alamo Essay
The Alamo
To the people of Texas and all Americans in the World:
I shall never surrender or retreat ... I Am determined to sustain myself as long as possible and die
like a soldier who never forgets what it is due to his honor and that of his country VICTORY OR
DEATH. This was a letter sent by William Barret Travisduring the siege of the Alamo on February
24, 1836. It was a cry for help to anybody and everybody willing to listen.
It all started in 1830 with Stephen Austin, a leader of American pioneers in the wild, living in
Texas, under the rule of the Mexican government, who had solved two major problems that the
settlers had with the government. The colonist were now allowed to keep slaves in Texas, even

Thirty thousand Texans were willing to fight against a nation of seven million. They did not receive
any government aid from the United States but sympathetic Southern states secretly sent troops.
The war began with battle of the Lexington of the Texas revolution taken place on October 2,
1835. This little battle consisted of one hundred Mexican troops sent to Gonzales, a town east of
San Antonio, to order the settlers to surrender their only cannon. The soldiers said come and take it

That Time Of Year Figurative Language
That Time of Year by William Shakespeare illustrates the coming of death for an elderly man, and
the love in his relationship strengthening. Throughout the sonnet, the themes of love, The speaker, a
man who is growing old, uses a different metaphor in each of the quatrains to describe to his lover
how old age dawns upon us. By using a separate metaphor in each quatrain, Shakespeare uses
English form to his advantage. The metaphors that the speaker uses all relate to nature, which
unifies them together and relates them to the theme and purpose. In the couplet, we find that
although the man is dying and growing weaker, the love between him and his lover seems to grow
stronger. William Shakespeares use of Shakespearean form and rhyme scheme

Compare And Contrast Mental Vs Mental Health
Physical vs Mental: My thoughts
People tend to be more concerned with physical illnesses rather than mental illnesses. They think

Philippines Imperialization
The independence of the Philippines brought a new hope to the citizens that they would finally be
able to govern themselves. Imperialization from the Spanish in the 1500 s, followed by U.S. control
up until the end of World War II left the country hungry for economic resources and trustworthy
leaders. Even with independence from the United States, they were unable to escape from unethical,
elite leaders that were favored by the US government. Numerous citizens and nationalist leaders

Often, the social order for most imperialized countries are for the benefit of the colonizing country
rather than the people themselves (Scipes). This held true for the Philippines, as their economy was

administration tried to eradicate Filipino nationalism when it threatened US interests . By ignoring
nationalist pleas for economic reform, they treated the Philippines differently than other postwar
Asian countries; they implemented [reforms] on Japan, Korea and Taiwan, (Weekley) while putting

Donald Trump Interpretation
Accomplishments will prove to be a journey, not a destination. Dwight D. Eisenhower
This quote represents all that an american president, and really just any leader of any country
should be. A president should be able to take the trip through elections or even their past political
or even business experiences and still be able to get to their final destination. No, the journey may
not be easy, but what it proves to the people they are trying to persuade is that they have the effort
to put forth and keep going. No matter what happens or how far they fall, the fact that they get
back up, brush off the dirt and trudge on through the slop of politics is enough the prove they have
more than what it takes to perform well in the white house.

Argumentative Essay On Space Exploration
Imagine living in the lost city of Atlantis where everyone is living underwater and their is a

only found in fictional worlds such as the DC Comics universe, science can now make this
possible. Even though space explorationhas been the main objective of many scientist and groups,
colonizing and exploring the vasts oceans should become the main objective for many various
reasons. By defining the necessity for pursuing ocean exploration and colonization as a more
realistic than present space exploration, by refuting those who claim space exploration should take

persuaded that exploration and colonization of the ocean is imperative, realistic, and should take
priority over space exploration.
Colonizing the oceans would be surprisingly beneficial to humans because it would help decrease

The Joint Commission On Accreditation Of Healthcare...
Abstract The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) core
measures in relation to Heart Failure (HF) was examined using empirical based nursing research.
Findings suggest that lack of understanding by nurses contributes significantly to the privation of
core measure implementation. A significant number of Americans suffer from HF, so patient
quality of care assessment was necessitated. Identifying factors were: nurse patient education
resulting in follow up appointments, left ventricular performance or left ventricular systolic (LVS)
function, treatment medications, and smoking cessation programs. Nurses provide an important
role in the education of patients with HF. The Nurse is integral in providing documentation in
relation to LVS. Nurses play an important role in the administration of HF medication. Smoking, a
major cause of HF, requires special nursing intervention. Nursing results in improved quality of
care if HF core measures are implemented properly. Additionally, Orem s universal requisites are

Bobo The Doll Experiment Summary
Albert Bandura s Bobo the Doll Experiment was performed to solidify and add credence to his
belief that all human behavior is learned through social imitation, rather than inherited through
genetic influences. During the 1960s, many psychologists debated whether genetics or
environmental factors, such as social learning, effected a child s development. Bandura designed
the Bobo Doll experiment to prove that children imitate behaviors set by role model s. Bandura s
research hastened the evolution of the 20th century experimental psychologyfrom pure behaviorism
into what is now known as social cognitive learning (Artino, 2017). The 1961 experiment followed

Bandura s findings and his social learning theory help explain this correlation. The American
Academy of Pediatrics decided to explore if this correlation can be scientifically exhibited in
research studies. They discovered that media does indeed influence children because of the ideas
founded by Bandura s theory. A child can learn aggressive behaviors by imitating others, including
those who are portrayed in the media. This is because children younger than eight years have
difficulty being able to distinguish reality from fantasy (Media Violence, 2009). Therefore, they
can be vulnerable to learning, or adopting the attitudes and behaviors of a role model found in the
media. However, this discovery is not always detrimental. Much of prosocial media uses Bandura s
theory to their advantage, and creates role models that exhibit excellent behavior (Ng,

Primarily, the first issue that arises is the fact that a company that was founded in the United States
dealing with military dictatorships in less advanced politically as well as economically countries
than themselves is undoubtedly a form of exploitation, but also manipulation as citizens of the
United States would not have been aware such a relationship existed between the United Fruit
company and Latin American military dictatorships. In addition to this, Frank Pearce (1976)
argues that corporations with the connivance of the American state act systematically to control
the markets in which they operate. Using the example of the United Fruit Company in
Guatemala from 1899 to 1944, we can see this to be accurate as by doing business with dictators,
United Fruit grew into el pulpo (the octopus) with a vast enterprise extending far beyond were it
extracted bananas (Dosal 2005, p.3).Linking in with this, it is often the case that whilst exploiting
a foreign populace the corporation is not acting on its own. The state can act as a facilitator for the
process of exploitation and profit over people. For example, the U.S Government bears
responsibility for United Fruit s enterprises as it encouraged the government of Guatemala to adopt
policies that would benefit American enterprise and the United Fruit Company (Dosal 2005, p.3).

capitalism. Despite the

short essay I will be discussing the impact that electronic information has on individuals and also
as a society. ICT is a major part of society as it provides communication quickly and easily
between different parts of the world and provides quick access to the information they require at
the time. I will also be discussing how home owners themselves have now opted to use ICT as a
major part of their home; this is due to many factors that will be looked at in more detail

Another great influence that has provided my life with a lot of ease and that is the invention or
the use of computers for trains. An electronic train time table provides me with quick easy to
read access for when and where trains are coming and going when I go out with family or
friends to different parts of England. The major issue with these is there accuracy they can be
very inaccurate at times, along with them not working. This result in mass panic as there is not
a reliable back up system to go with this if for some reason it fails. Impact On Friends and
Family TV provides inspiration to my brother who studies music this is due to the subscription
service (Sky) offering TV channels like sky arts and other media based services. This provides
him with help in his studies by being able to study certain musicians as well as the channels
providing lessons and support for musicians out there. It also provides help for him to unwind
for example it gives him access to entertainment channels where he can watch TV shows like
Friends . Also TV provides my Mum access to many channels which were unavailable when she
was younger and helps her to watch some of the programs she has always wanted to like the Horse
Racing and similar programs. TV has provided almost 900 channels since it

Best Weight Loss Supplements Research
There are almost always more questions for those of us who want to and need to lose weight
than answers. Which supplements will give me the fastest results? The best weight loss pills are
which ones? For the millions of people who need to lose weight these are two of the most
important questions they ask. There would not be a billion plus dollar industry related to losing
weight and getting fit if there were easy answers. What would be the best answer to these
questions? The supplements which produce the best results for me. That may seem like too easy
of an answer. However, this is the answer we are all looking to find.
Medications can cause dissimilar reactions for different people because we re not all alike. The
DNA makeup of our bodies, although similar in basic structure, can be vastly different. The best
weight loss pills that work for you may not necessarily work for me because of these differences.
A good example of this would be the effects of caffeine on siblings. Take me and my brother, for
instance, caffeine can affect him in such a way that it assists him in staying awake for long periods
of time, and helping him focus on projects that he s working on. However, it has ... Show more

This does not necessarily mean they are safe. For instance, a naturally occurring element that
would be considered natural is a toxic poison known as arsenic. Arsenic is not safe to ingest even if
it is natural.
There can be very good results with either prescription weight loss pills or over the counter
weight loss pills. However, we should be aware of the risks involved when using them. At least
you have medical supervision available to monitor your progress when using those in the
prescription category. This may make it safer to use supplements in the prescription category as
you ll be mitigating some of the risk

The Outcome Of Two Major Railroad Strikes
Identify and describe the outcome of two major Railroad Strikes. The two major Railroad
Strikes were the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The
Great Railroad Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were
being made by their employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages.
Because of various railroads cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to
continue working under those conditions. Not only were the wages of the workers being cut,
the amount work of work given to the employees increased and the employer did not hire
additional workers. This then caused railroad employees to respond by taking control of the rail
yard switches, and blocking movement of trains. Throughout various cities such as Baltimore,
Pittsburg, St. Louise, and Chicago, Violent acts began to occur. Many people died throughout
the cities. The strike cause the country s commerce to become paralyzed and pushed governors
in different states to utilize militia members to reopen rail traffic. This action also helped set the
stage for violence that would occur later in the 1880s and 1890s. The Railroad Shop Workers
Strike of 1922 affected everyone in the country. This strike occurred because of the pay cut of
seven cents to the wages of the railroad workers. Approximately 400,000 rail shop workers from
various unions were on strike because the cut was announced by the railroad labor board. When

Knowledge And Shared Knowledge
Knowledge is defined to be facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education.
There are two categories that fall under knowledge; personal knowledge and shared knowledge.
Shared knowledge refers to what we know because. It can also be defined as communicated and
constructed knowledge; within culture, social norms, and semiotics. Personal knowledge refers to
I know because. An expanded definition of personal knowledge refers to personal experiences,
values, and perceptions. Shared knowledge changes and evolves over time because of methods
that are continuously shared. It is assembled by a group of people. Personal knowledge, on the
other hand, depends crucially on the experiences of a particular individual. It is gained... Show more

He was an Italian physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, and engineer who played a
large role in the scientific revolution (1564 1642). Galileo was often faced with controversial
arguments about his findings. Based on the shared knowledge of the Catholic Church, it tried to
compress the personal knowledge of Galileo. This is where the idea of personal and shared
knowledge shaping each other comes into perspective, as Galileo was continuously faced with the
knowledge of the Church. Continuously his personal knowledge was rejected, because shared
knowledge had such an influence among the people. His hypothesis frightened both the Protestant
leaders and Catholic Church because it went against their teachings and authority. If people
believed that the church could be wrong about this, they would question the church teachings as
well. The Church warned Galileo of his theories, however silently he continued to research. The
Church s greatest fear was that Galileo s personal knowledge would ultimately change the shared
knowledge of the Church. In 1632, he published a book which presented both of the ideas of
Copernicus and Ptolemy, and it was clear that Galileo supported the Copernican theory which stated
that the Earth moved around the Sun. Galileo was sentenced to court and found guilty. Under
torture, he admitted his findings were false. Only in 1992, the Catholic Church

a voice within in you say you cannot paint , then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced
. This was one of Van Gogh s inspirational quotes stating that everything in this world can be
overcome and how you can do anything you put your mind to. Anna Carbentus Van Gogh gave

Van Gogh was taken to a nearby hospital and his doctors sent for Theo, who arrived to find his
brother sitting up in bed and smoking a pipe. They spent the next couple of days talking and
then van Gogh asked Theo to take him home. On July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh died in his
brother s arms at age 37. Theo, who was suffering from syphilis and was emotionally unstable
after his brother s death, died six months later in a Dutch asylum. He was buried in Utrecht, but
in 1914 Theo s wife, Johanna, who was a dedicated supporter of van Gogh s works, had Theo s
body reburied in the Auvers cemetery next to Vincent. Johanna then collected as many of van
Gogh s paintings as she could, but discovered that many of them had been destroyed or lost, van
Gogh s own mother having thrown away crates full of his art. On March 17, 1901, 71 of van
Gogh s paintings were displayed at a show in Paris, and his fame subsequently grew enormously.
His mother lived long enough to see her son hailed as an artist and a genius. Today, Vincent van
Gogh is considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt. He completed more than 2,100
works, consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings and sketches.
Several of his paintings rank among the most expensive in the world; Irises sold for a record $53.9
million, and his Portrait of Dr. Gachet sold for $82.5

Studying Islam Through International Students ...
While Baton Rouge, cannot be considered a large city, it is home to a well sized state University.
Considering the amenities that the school has access to and the ever rising demand for fluent
English in workforces around the globe, it is not surprising there is a large international student
population. My research took place among the Omani students here. I chose Islambecause I felt
conducting fieldwork among a group that I had been acquainted with and had several connections
with, would a good way to go about learning about a religion with which I was familiar on the
most basic terms. I decided to study Islam through these international students experiences with

These dietary practices and attitudes affect even those who might not sure the same thoughts
about food as someone. Even the very absence of it, fasting, has a huge impact on not only one s
physical but also mental state. In Islam, it is used as an oppurtunity to remind oneself of the
benevolence of Allah with the prayer Praise to Allah for feeding us, giving us to drink and making
us Muslims. (Raman 2014: 967). For Muslims, fasting is the fourth of the Five Pillars. It is
recommended to develop self control. During this month of Ramadan all adults are expected to fast
from sunrise to sunset, except under special circumstances such as travelling, sickness, pregnancy,
and the like. (Raman 2014: 970). Ramadan is also important for Ramadan strengthens religious
discipline and encourages believers to remember the great days when Allah sent the Quran to all
people of the world through the Prophet Muhammad.( Novaković 2013:1992)
Although Islam is one of the youngest of the world s major religions (the founder being born in
570 CE), it is already the second most popular religion in the world (second only to Christianity).
With 1.2 billion Muslims across the globe, they are found to be the majority in the Middle East,
parts of North and East Africa, China, South and Southeast Asia, South Eastern Europe with
substantial communities in former colonizing countries like France. Islam is the fastest growing
religion, already those who identify as Muslim count for

Hockey Lockout Analysis
Since the start of the twenty first century, there has been two different lockouts in the National
Hockey League. The first to happen was in the 2004 2005 season. The entire season was lost due
to an unsuccessful bargaining agreement. The second one to happen was in the 2012 2013
season. Over sixty percent of the season was lost and the league had to cancel special events
such as the Winter Classic games and the All Star Weekend. They were able to salvage the tail
end of the season and were still able to have the Stanley Cup Playoffs (The hockey lockout of
2012 2013, 2013). Previously before the mid 1990s, the stoppage of a sports season was usually
due to a strike rather than a lockout. As sports grew there became an influx of wealth due... Show

The agreement seemed to be a victory for the owners, but they continued to pay big salaries to the
players. Average salaries grew and started to exceed revenue growth. In 2004, the National Hockey
League claimed that they had lost nearly two billion dollars in the past decade. In the
negotiations, the league was focuses on the idea of the costs being certain. They would make
sure that costs are certain by introducing a salary cap. The union was against the idea of a salary
cap and insisted that salaries were based on market conditions and it would not agree to capped
team payrolls. As an attempt to save the season, the league dropped the demand that the salaries
would not exceed fifty five percent of revenue. The union then reconsidered and became willing
to accept a salary cap. The two parties however, could not close the gap on how much the salary
cap should be. Neither side would budge and finally time ran out, resulting in the league
cancelling the 2004 2005 season. The cancelation caused an estimated two billion in revenue for
the teams and roughly one billion in lost salaries from the players. After the season was lost, the
Nation Hockey League Players Association finally agreed to a salary cap for the 2005 2006 season
and onward (The hockey lockout of 2012 2013,

Why I Chose To Attend Emory University
18. Why did you choose to attend Emory University? (In 250 words or less):
Emory offered me something no other school I was accepted to could; it allowed me to study
finance and film. Emory also has the perfect location. It is in Atlanta, where many movies are
being filmed due to the tax credits in Georgia. This makes getting a job or internship easier. My
grandparents and cousins also live in Dunwoody, 25 minutes from campus. This made me feel
better about leaving home as I knew there would be people close by if I ever felt homesick. Emory
is also the perfect size campus for me. It is large enough to feel like a college not a high school, but
small enough to get around campus by just walking. Once here, I discovered you always run into
someone you know on campus no matter where you go. * 19. What has been your most fulfilling ...

Our midterm for this class was to split into two groups and produce a short film. I have always had
a passion for filmmaking and never had the man power to help me make a short film. With this
project, we had to write, shoot, and edit a film. Over the two weeks, I put in 27 hours of work.
Seeing the final project was the most fulfilling academic experience I ve had as I could see my
group s hard work and a goal of mine become a reality. * 20. What is your favorite Emory
memory? (In 250 words or less):
My favorite memory happened at the beginning of the year, Songfest. It was a way I could make
new friends while being super competitive. I loved how into it every freshman that participated
got and how hard we all worked. Attending practices was enjoyable and the actual event was even
better. Everyone wore their dorm colors and sang their dorm chants. Although my dorm, Longstreet
Means, placed second, it was still my favorite memory. * 21. What is your least favorite thing

Civil Disobedience Is Not Safe For The People Living...
When is an act of civil disobedience just or unjust? Or better yet, what is a just act of civil
disobedience? According to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in his Letter from Birmingham Jail, we
who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the
surface the hidden tension that is already alive. In the case of Greenpeace protestors breaking
into Australia s nuclear plant, their act of civil disobedience is exactly what an act of civil
disobedience justly looks like. Greenpeace had two goals when they decided to break into Lucas
Heights. The first goal was to actively show the world how the lack of security at Lucas Heights
put Australia at risk for a terrorist attack, and wanted to show how nuclear energy is not safe for
the people living around the reactor. In the early hours of December 17, 2001, 46 Greenpeace
activists broke into Australia s nuclear site known as the Lucas Heights nuclear plant. The 46
volunteers split into two groups. Group one entered the grounds through a fence at the back of the
facility, and the second group slipped in through the gate entrance. According to the activists in
group two, there were only two security guards on duty at the front gate and none were mentioned
for the back of the facility. While the groups were on the grounds, the activists used a four wheel
drive vehicle to block the entrance gates of the nuclear site so they would be able to run on the
grounds uninterrupted for as long as

High-Stakes Testing Strategies powerful impact on the academic achievement and success of all children by viewing them as at promise rather than at risk and preparing them to reach their full potential. Teaching strategies The preliminary findings presented here suggest that when teaching a high stakes examination class, teachers often select their test preparation strategies in ways that unconsciously reflect their professional identities, identity meaning being recognized as a certain type of person in a given context (Gee 2001, p. 99). Three such strategies are supplementary tutoring, drill and practice, and reflexive pedagogical praxis. Beliefs teachers have about the fairness and the benefits of the high stakes test, appears to be related in complex ways to the modes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soccer is even considered a religion or art in other countries, but in America soccer isn t as popular as it is in other parts of the world. The biggest hindrance to soccer s popularity in America was that it became viewed as un American. Soccer became the most popular sport worldwide, because of how little you need to play the sport. The only thing that you need is the ball, not even another person is required to practice the sport. Since soccer requires so little, merchants and missionaries would take soccer with them when they travelled. When British merchants would go to other countries they would take ... • 9. The Christian Faith One of the foundations of the Christian faith is the belief that God is actively working in His creation. God did not create the world and leave it to its own fate. Instead, God is still actively involved in every part of His creation today. This belief is crucial for the Christian scientists in today s world. Ones who study cells and molecules can discover how astounding and detailed God, the Creator, is with this belief in mind. God is working through his seen and unseen creation. In the tiniest cell, God s workmanship can be displayed. God made each cell to have a specific purpose towards the human body or the plant. Cells and molecules are the work of an intelligent designer and are not random chances. Without God, cells could not accomplish their purpose. God places every geneon DNAand makes the cells come together to form a human. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother s womb (Psalm 139:13, NIV). Through cells and molecules, God creates each unique person on His earth. When a Christian scientist knows God is at work in His creation, they can have a new perspective of cells. They will see cells as the design of God instead of results of randomness. Once they observe and study cells, they can learn more about God. They can learn how detail oriented and omniscient He is. God is in control not only of the seen world, but also the world we can only see under the microscope! Each cell and molecule are shaped a specific way to carry out a ... Well if that s you, maybe public schools aren t for you. You should try homeschool online and forget about being late to your first period ever again. Don t be like the roosters and be smart. I choose homeschool online and the only thing that I regret is not switching faster. Here are some Pros and cons When you re deciding which is best for you. The most important factor is the educationthat you will be receiving. Sometimes is challenging receiving the best education possible on public schools because of the distractions. If there s no interruptions, then teacher will have no problem teaching and you will have a pretty dissent education but that s rear. While in online homeschool there s no interruptions and your teacher will have a one on one interaction with you to make sure that your are learning your lessons. Also, you wouldn t be doing the same thing as other students because is based on each individual. Base on ( Homeschool World , 2010) a website about homeschooling, over 2.4 million students are now learning from home, a 75% increase since 1999. This shows that every year more people are to switching from public schools to homeschools. Another thing, did you know that students that decide to do homeschool are doing better in national test than those in public schools? Another thing that homeschool students are out performing public school students are communication, daily living, socialization and maturity. Which helps student on there every day lives. The best part of online home school is the schedule. The schedule is based on each individual. For example, I work in the mornings and I get out at 5. Summary Of The Mammoth Cometh The article, The Mammoth Cometh, uses many appeals and techniques to relay the importance of de extinction, especially in relation to Novak s passion, the passenger pigeon. Pathos are effectively used to in giving us (the audience) a personal connection with Ben Novak as the author takes us on hikes as a boy throughout the badlands near his home, exploring a vast petrified forest, in North Dakota. Novak frequently came across vertebrae, phalanges and rib fragments of extinct crocodiles, and other animals. With such a childhood it s no wonder that at 13, Novak pledged his life to the resurrection of extinct animals. A few years later he fell in love at first sight with passenger pigeons and has since dedicated his life to their cause. The burning passion he has for these extinct animals can t help but inspire us. He is described as overcome by awe, sadness and the birds physical beauty, and has visited 339 preserved passenger pigeons. His solid determination in the revival and restoration of these birds is also unbelievable, trying first to become a part of a lab already sequencing passenger pigeonDNAand then, when he was not accepted, writing more than 30 times to an institute to receive a sample of a bird s tissue to do it himself. Ultimately, he was able to partner with the other lab, but the owner expressed that she was worried his zeal might interfere with his ability to do serious science. This became evident during the rereads of a close reading lesson. The lesson consisted of two different passages pertaining to the topic of hurricanes. However, the lesson was revised by day two to include the second passage. This decision was based on one of the factors of text complexity involving text structure. Students were able to compare and contrast the passages, determine the point of views, and synthesize information involving a hurricane survivor. Choosing a complex text became the most difficult part of the lesson being my first lesson on the topic. I followed the International ReadingAssociation (IRA) and National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE) (2014d) guide for choosing complex text, which stated text, is complex if it is higher than the students independent reading level and if the text... My group did exactly that as one student preferred to highlight key details and make notes in the margins. Another student took her time during silent reading always referring back to the questions. One way to improve future lessons dealing with metacognitive skills is to display strategies and ability identifiers as a reminder to apply during any literacy lesson. Imagine finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or children being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear within the Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic scholarship of the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a handful of scholars to study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The last thirty years have revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars within this subfield: necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically, dialogue about ancient Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from the surrounding geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient peoples; these topics are no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars, the majority of academics appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical practice belonging to the worship of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with varying degrees of beliefs about the particular conditions during which these controversial customs were performed. ... By defining the necessity for pursuing ocean exploration and colonization as a more realistic than present space exploration, by refuting those who claim space exploration should take precedence, by presenting compelling evidence, expert opinions, and strong arguments , all will be persuaded that exploration and colonization of the ocean is imperative, realistic, and should take priority over space exploration. Colonizing the oceans would be surprisingly beneficial to humans because it would help decrease the population in highly populated countries, such as China who has an AQI (Air Quality Index) of 300+. Abstract The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) core measures in relation to Heart Failure (HF) was examined using empirical based nursing research. Findings suggest that lack of understanding by nurses contributes significantly to the privation of core measure implementation. A significant number of Americans suffer from HF, so patient quality of care assessment was necessitated. Identifying factors were: nurse patient education resulting in follow up appointments, left ventricular performance or left ventricular systolic (LVS) function, treatment medications, and smoking cessation programs. Bobo The Doll Experiment Summary Albert Bandura s Bobo the Doll Experiment was performed to solidify and add credence to his belief that all human behavior is learned through social imitation, rather than inherited through genetic influences. During the 1960s, many psychologists debated whether genetics or environmental factors, such as social learning, effected a child s development. Bandura designed the Bobo Doll experiment to prove that children imitate behaviors set by role model s. Bandura s research hastened the evolution of the 20th century experimental psychologyfrom pure behaviorism into what is now known as social cognitive learning (Artino, 2017). They discovered that media does indeed influence children because of the ideas founded by Bandura s theory. A child can learn aggressive behaviors by imitating others, including those who are portrayed in the media. This is because children younger than eight years have difficulty being able to distinguish reality from fantasy (Media Violence, 2009). Therefore, they can be vulnerable to learning, or adopting the attitudes and behaviors of a role model found in the media. However, this discovery is not always detrimental. Primarily, the first issue that arises is the fact that a company that was founded in the United States dealing with military dictatorships in less advanced politically as well as economically countries than themselves is undoubtedly a form of exploitation, but also manipulation as citizens of the United States would not have been aware such a relationship existed between the United Fruit company and Latin American military dictatorships. In addition to this, Frank Pearce (1976) argues that corporations with the connivance of the American state act systematically to control the markets in which they operate. Using the example of the United Fruit Company in Guatemala from 1899 to 1944, we can see this to be accurate as by doing business with dictators, United Fruit grew into el pulpo (the octopus) with a vast enterprise extending far beyond were it extracted bananas (Dosal 2005, p.3).Linking in with this, it is often the case that whilst exploiting a foreign populace the corporation is not acting on its own. The state can act as a facilitator for the process of exploitation and profit over people. For example, the U.S Government bears responsibility for United Fruit s enterprises as it encouraged the government of Guatemala to adopt policies that would benefit American enterprise and the United Fruit Company (Dosal 2005, p.3). • 44. The Outcome Of Two Major Railroad Strikes Identify and describe the outcome of two major Railroad Strikes. The two major Railroad Strikes were the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The Great Railroad Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were being made by their employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages. Because of various railroads cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to continue working under those conditions. Not only were the wages of the workers being cut, the amount work of work given to the employees increased and the employer did not hire additional workers. This then caused railroad employees to respond by taking control of the rail yard switches, and blocking movement of trains. Throughout various cities such as Baltimore, Pittsburg, St. Louise, and Chicago, Violent acts began to occur. Many people died throughout the cities. The strike cause the country s commerce to become paralyzed and pushed governors in different states to utilize militia members to reopen rail traffic. This is where the idea of personal and shared knowledge shaping each other comes into perspective, as Galileo was continuously faced with the knowledge of the Church. Continuously his personal knowledge was rejected, because shared knowledge had such an influence among the people. His hypothesis frightened both the Protestant leaders and Catholic Church because it went against their teachings and authority. If people believed that the church could be wrong about this, they would question the church teachings as well. The Church warned Galileo of his theories, however silently he continued to research. The Church s greatest fear was that Galileo s personal knowledge would ultimately change the shared knowledge of the Church. According to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in his Letter from Birmingham Jail, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. In the case of Greenpeace protestors breaking into Australia s nuclear plant, their act of civil disobedience is exactly what an act of civil disobedience justly looks like. Greenpeace had two goals when they decided to break into Lucas Heights. The first goal was to actively show the world how the lack of security at Lucas Heights put Australia at risk for a terrorist attack, and wanted to show how nuclear energy is not safe for the people living around the reactor.
