Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd ) And All The...
The story is an intriguing tale that I would argue explicates and profoundly depicts the different
dynamics associated with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and all the corresponding
tendencies that exacerbate the anxiety. The main character, Mr. Melvin Udall s behavior and actions
speaks volume about the debilitating effects of the disorder. He seems to constantly have unwanted
and intrusive thoughts that can t seems to get out of head, making him obsessed with it, Example the
constant irrational worry about dirt at home, in the restaurant, on the streets so as to not come in
contact with germ, virus or disease, and excessive concerns with order, arrangement, or symmetry, as
well as Feeling overly responsible for the safety of others a distasteful religious and sexual thoughts or
images. The anxiety that is developed as a result of the above tendencies that compels him throughout
to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and arrangements, such as cleaning, repeatedly washing of
his hands and one occasion bathing for hours, while Helen, the waitress waited for him to go a date,
clearing demonstrating the compulsion that is too often difficult to control, even though it appears
irrational. It must be said that this compulsive aspect of the symptoms tend to help him mitigate or
ease the anxiety that persist. So in a narrow sense the compulsive behavior serves as a positive remedy
or coping strategy, but generally it is irrational

Madagascar Lemurs And Spies Sparknotes
This documentary, Madagascar, Lemurs and Spies, was touching both in terms of realization of what
is at stakes here and the overall separation there is between our society and what happens in the most
biodiverse places on the planet Earth. The overall combination of beautiful landscapes from
Madagascar, the sensibility and love for these animals shown by the scholar living there and the
constant danger and drama present in this situation of conservatism on this Island produce a perfect
accord for a great documentary. The beauty of the Silky Sifaka or pure white lemurs is astonishing and
it is a shame that we need to protect so intensively creatures of this value. They are critically
endangered and are only found on the island of Madagascar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Most of the trees cut down will be used especially for furniture like tables, chairs, or desks, but also
for expensive guitars like Gibsons. The amount of wood timbered illegally is both impressive and
terribly sad. The saddest part is that without even realizing it we are complicit in this situation since
most guitars and furniture are sold in the United States, Europe or even China as mentioned in the
documentary. These objects sell for a lot of money to wealthy people and this contributes to the
development and growth of illegal deforestation. I find unbelievable the amount of wood taken down
and at the same time there is no action made by the government to stop the trade. It seems that foreign
countries do more the conservation of the forest and the specie than the country of Madagascar or at
least this is how it is depicted in the documentary. Overall, this short movie provides a good point of
view on the situation, however, I believe that there is not a strong enough emphasis on the other
threats possible like global warming, hunting or any other possible conservation issues. It is mainly
focused on the wood trade and the danger concerning lemurs in this place, but usually species are not
endangered just because of one cause. Global warming is a growing concern all around the world and
Madagascar, being an island, could be touched even more by the sea level

The Museum Of Glass Art Movement
Robert Clark Palusky, b.1942 Duluth, MN, is a pioneer in the contemporary glass art movement.
A prolific artist, Palusky s career in glass spans four decades. His work is featured in museums around
the world and celebrated in many world class private collections. Most prominent show to date
includes Tête à Tête: Figures Humaines (Ten Masters in Glass) a show featuring Palusky along side
Pablo Picasso, Salvidore Dali, and Jean Arp.
Typically, in order to see Palusky s artwork in person, you would have to travel to museums in
Switzerland, Japan or Spain, or in the U.S. to the Museum of Modern Art or the Corning Museum of
Glass. However, due to sheer luck, Palusky s work is on display right here in Saratoga Springs at the
Equine Gallery at Studio di Luce which benefits The Foal Project (www.foalproject.org). The gallery
is located at 480 Broadway on the main floor right next door to City Hall.
I ve been blessed to know Robert Palusky (Bob) and his wife, Virginia (also an amazing artist in her
own right) for quite some time, and they have been great friends of the Foal Project as well. When the
Equine Gallery opened a few months ago, it only made sense to ask if I could showcase one of his
pieces, to highlight his work, and introduce this remarkable artist to the Saratoga community. I was
honored when he was kind enough to oblige. I had no idea which piece he would agree to send to
Saratoga, however, it was no surprise to discover there was a horse involved.

Contaminants In Water System
Few people give much thought to what s in the water that comes out of their faucets until a funny
smell or color alerts them that more than just water is coming from the tap.
Unfortunately, many pollutants don t taint drinking water with foul odors or colors, leaving many
people unaware of the contaminants their families are likely consuming on a daily basis. Fortunately,
Anderson Water Systems in Rochester, New York, has helped homeowners in their region filter and
purify drinking water for more than 60 years.
Its technicians understand that there are more than 20 common pollutants in America s water supply,
varying city by city. Some of the most common contaminants include:

Grief And Trauma
Introduction:
I have learned a lot in the Intro to Abuse course, including how I respond to traumatic events; how
abuse affects attachment and how my caregivers affected my self esteem; my resiliency as well as the
skills, traits and professionalism necessary to work effectively with abused children. I will use this
knowledge to develop a better understanding of myself and to become a better Child and Youth Care
practitioner.
Grief and Trauma:
This course has taught me how I respond to traumatic events. For example, this past summer, I was
demoted without warning from a job in which I was extremely invested in and passionate about. On
day three of my job, I was suddenly transferred involuntarily from my position working with children
with special ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a young child, my parents unintentionally negatively impacted my self esteem in a variety of
different ways. Due to my undiagnosed learning disability, I often misinterpreted or failed to
understand rules and instructions without my parents realizing it. I would frequently get in trouble
because I broke a rule or failed to do what my parents wanted me to without even knowing it. My
parents thought that I was just being difficult so they would yell at me or punish me and because I had
no idea what I had done wrong, I felt like I was a bad kid because I was always getting in trouble. I
would also misinterpret what my parents were trying to say a lot of the time, which was also often
damaging to my self esteem. For example, when I scored my first goal playing hockey I was so
excited and proud of myself and thought my parents would be too, since they would always tell our
family if one of my siblings scored. However, my dad told me that he did not care if I scored a goal
and I interpreted it to mean that he did not care about me or that I scored and only cared if my siblings
did, but what he meant was that he was proud of me whether I scored or not as long as I was doing my
best. My parents also damaged my self esteem by belittling me or shaming me when they got
frustrated because I was not doing what they wanted. For example, my parents would say things like,
why can t you be more like your sister, she can put her seat belt on, why can t you? . This led me to
feel like there was something wrong with me and that I wasn t good enough. It also caused me to start
comparing myself to my siblings, which made me feel inadequate because it seemed like no matter
how hard I tried, I could never measure up to what they could do. However, once my parents
discovered that I had a learning disability that caused me to misinterpret nonverbal, social and
complicated verbal cues, they did their best to

The Supreme Leader And The Authority Of The State
It s the only country in the world with a theocratic government.
The supreme leader is similar to the GB queen but with the difference that the supreme leader sets
overall policies and can nullify an executive decision whereas the Queen role is completely
ceremonial.
There is multiple power centers in Iran which is similar to the checks and balance in the U.S
Many policies and rules are sets by unelected specialize bodies considered as state institutions even
though there are not mention in the constitution.
B) Explain why Iran is called a theocratic state explaining the role of key institutions

Compare and Contrast Business Systems in Japan and China....
Compare and contrast business systems in Japan and China. Answer with reference to relevant
theories and use comparative country and/or corporate examples.
Word count: 2,608
To understand the differences between Japanese and Chinese business systems we must first
understand the meaning of a business system . A business system is a methodical procedure or
process, used as a delivery mechanism for providing specific goods or services to customers in a well
defined market (1). Unlike the Eastern ways of doing business, Asian Pacific business is heavily
influenced by religion and the ways of society plays an important role in the approach they take on

Therefore it seems that Japanese business is like a family, employing their workers for life in a closed
community of loyal, trusted and harmonious beliefs.
Economy:
Japan enjoyed a period of high productive development since the end of World War II. It boomed in
the late 60 s and 70 s and then came to an immense halt in the 80 s and 90 s and still vacillating today.
Since the beginning of 60 s, Japans growth has been called a post war economic miracle (11). This is
because, in that time, they had an average growth rate of 10% in the 1960s, 5% in the 1970s, and 4%
in the 1980s (11). In this time, according to Richard Katz in his book Japan: The System That Soured
the Japanese government applied a developing country strategy which involved very low interest rates
so that Japanese companies, that during that time, needed money to start up their businesses, could
take out loans at a extraordinarily cheap price (10). They also used a system called WAT. This system
was a peer to peer complementary currency system (12) which would allow for small businesses to
issue IOUs (called WAT ticket) to their suppliers (12). This allowed for a high cost structure (10)
where efficient manufacturers and inefficient service related sectors were able to co exist (10).

The Similarities and Differences of the Causes of the
Rebellion in Upper and Lower Canada
The causes of the Rebellions of 1837 in Upper and Lower Canada have similarities and differences.
For example, both Upper and Lower Canada had problems with their government, not having a
representative or responsible one. They also both had a group, the Family Compact in Upper Canada
and the Chateau Clique in Lower Canada, that had a lot of money and power. Another similarity is that
they both had a document trying for change that got shut down by the government, Gourlay s petition
in Upper Canada, and the 92 Resolutions in Lower Canada. The proposed union of 1822 also
contributed to the Rebellions of 1837 in both Upper and Lower Canada, as both they disapproved of
union of the two colonies. The proposed union of 1822 could also be considered a difference in the
causes of the rebellions, since the union would make the French in Lower Canada, a ... Show more

Firstly, the government in both Upper and Lower Canada both were neither representative nor
responsible, it was an oligarchy. Even though anyone (landowning men) could have been elected as
part of the Legislative Assembly, the Legislative Assembly only could suggested ideas. Any
suggestions could be vetoed by the councils or the governor, who were all appointed by Britain,
making the assembly ultimately have no power in the government. This was a huge issue because the
councils were mostly made up of the Family Compact (in Upper Canada) and the Chateau Clique (in
Lower Canada). Which leads to the second similarity of the causes, the power structures, the Family
Compact and the Chateau Clique. Both of these upper class groups wanted different things than the
lower classes. An example is that the Family Compact wanted to build canals instead of roads and the
Chateau Clique wanted the

Keystone Habit Research Paper
Keystone habit is a change of a behavior that can form other positive habits. It creates a chain reaction
on the way we live our life. Based on Habits as Change Levers by Daniel Denison and Levi Nieminen,
the authors give an example on how changing keystone habit can affect other habit and be
advantageous. To start with, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is an authority that
manages all public transportation in New York City and surrounding areas including Long Island. This
includes a high volume subway system, which carries an average of 5.4 million passengers per day
(1.6 billion per year) (Denison and Nieminen 26). The subway service not only helps the New Yorker
to escape the traffic congestion, but also tourist to get around the city. So, it was crucial for MTA s
crews to make sure the subway system is operating without stop and safely. However, the subway
system must still be repaired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This unprecedented decision was made when the subway system experienced several high profile
safety incidents. It involved a worker fatality and a blizzard that left some passengers stranded for 10
hours without food, water and heat. As a result, a program named FastTrack was introduced to identify
and shut down the whole track s section for maintenance from 10 p.m. until 5a.m. of the following
day. This allows the maintenance crews to access the tracks, signals, cables and other rail components
without any interruption. At first, the public outcry over the new subway service because they never
accustomed to any interruption to the service. However, the program has given many benefits over
time. It was reported that it has improved productivity, saved money (estimated savings of $16.7
million in 2012), cut accident rates nearly in half, and increased train reliability by nearly 5% (26).
These achievement is clearly achieved because MTA has changed its keystone habit, which is running

patient with the food. Indeed, Karen Carpenter needs to change her way of thinking in order to treat
her disorder, and in order to do so, punishment need to be associated to losing weight and
reinforcement to gaining weight. Even if most anorexic patients deny their disorder, hospitalization is
always the best way to keep the person alive by imposing weight restoration (Davison et al., 2013).
Then, the cognitive behavioural therapy can come into play by reinforcing eating with a reward. For

According to Davison et al., (2013), disorders are the result of unconscious conflicts in the individual .
The psychoanalytic paradigm concentrates on childhood and defines what the individual has been
through during childhood is reflected in his/her adulthood. Davison et al., (2013) stated that anorexia
nervosa disorder usually starts to develop in adolescence due to past unstable relationships between
parents and the child. Indeed, being overprotective and overinvolved in the child s life by taking all
the decisions for him without giving him a voice, as it is seen in the case of Karen Carpenter, lead the
child to feel powerless, insecure, and have a low self esteem. A lack of control is felt by the child and
is then transformed into high self control later on. Approaching adolescence, the child becomes more
conscious about the society demands on appearance and as a result respect those requirements to be
accepted by transforming him/herself into a thinner silhouette. This self control over a strict diet
creates an identity to the individual. According to Mushatt (1983), problems in the family increase the
probability to develop an eating disorder as anorexia nervosa. The roles played by the parents of
Carpenter family were well defined: her mother has control over everything and her father was
following her mother s commands in order to satisfy her. Concerning Karen s father, his passive
behavior did not help to lower the anxiety level felt at home and to bring back stability within the
family. Indeed, being a perfectionist mother does not help the child to grow up normally. The fact that
Karen s mother was over controlling could also have participate in her development of the anorexia
Nervosa disorder. Karen was not taking her own decision which is defines as it as an infantilizing
decision making by Msuhatt (1983). As explained in her biography, Karen Carpenter did not even

The specific works of The Epic of Gilgamesh and the book of Ecclesiastes from the Hebrew Bible

Our next step was to walk half a mile up a set of worn out and weathered stairs, this was very tiring

Some people who have made it out of the prison have tried to swim in the bay, but since they were
accustomed to warm waters they either died of hypothermia or drowned. If a prisoner was found
escaping, they usually were put in the hole, which is a cell that has a solid door to block off all light.
The cells in the hole have no bed, no blankets, no AC which made it cold. Prisoners were not allowed

Britain in 1750 In 1750 there were lots of agricultural jobs, men usually worked on farms (were
laborers) doing physical jobs like:
Looking after the animals
Being a milkman
Harvesting crops
Sowing broadcast
Dibbling
Threshing
Breaking stones
The women did a lot more in the domestic system they would usually stay at home and:
Cook food
Wash clothes
Sew and make clothes
They were very involved textiles and the making of cloth, they would spin the wool at home using
hand looms or spinning wheels then the men would weave it into cloth. This was a good way to
suplement the men s income as farmers.

Riddley Walker Language Analysis
Riddley Walker, which is set two thousand years after a nuclear war, is written in a way that is hard to
understand for the reader because it focuses on the perspective of a young boy who narrates in a
language that has been shaped by a society in post apocalyptic England. The language may seem
simplistic and straightforward but its words connate different meaning and contexts. Therefore, it is
the reader s job to be able to make connections and come up with the meaning of the words for
themselves through Riddley s perspective in which he uses worn down English. Furthermore, because
this novel focuses on Riddley s point of view, it can be described as a picaresque novel in which

Language survived through the nuclear holocaust, yet Riddley s society had to change the english
language in order to fit it into their culture. Specifically, religious and scientific words no longer held
the same use or meaning. Their beliefs, knowledge, and language no longer depended on abstract
ways of thinking, but rather the physical explanation for their origins and way of living. Themes such
as death, religion, and power became prevalent aspects in Riddley s life as he continued to seek the
answer for human nature and why we are who we are. Hoban conveyed this shift of language through
the use of phonetic language, that slows down the reader s recognition. Thus, Hoban causes the
audience to truly derive meaning from the context and meaning of the world, figuring for themselves
the nature of Riddley s experiences and connections. Furthermore, Eusa is the center of a legend that
Riddley s people rely their understanding on. As the culprit, Eusa, obtained cleverness and as a result
an entire world was destroyed. Furthermore, people no longer understand the basics of technology nor

life. Their way of life changed and so did their language. No longer do words have the same
connotation and they no longer believe in the same things. Riddley s society is experiencing the

Zora Neale Hurston Sweat
The story Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston tells the story of Delia who overcame her abusive husband,
Sykes through her development of becoming a strong woman. The development of Delia s character
throughout the story relates to Zora Neale Hurston s life of growing up into a strong, empowered
woman. Delia and Zora were both verbally and physically abused which made them afraid and timid.
Zora made her characters talk in a dialect that she grew up listening to which was uncommon to do in
literature. Delia and Zora both had to provide for themselves by putting in the effort remain stable and
happy. They also stood up for what they believed in which started their development into strong
women. Delia had to let her husband die in order to gain independence, while Zora had to move away
from home in order to be successful in her future which developed them both develop into
independent women. They became stronger because of these things which empowered them to take
back control of their lives. The snake is a symbol in the story that represents the evil that was
overcome by the good. This story can now be better analyzed when looking at the life of Delia which
connects to Zora Neale Hurston s life. Delia was physically abused many times by her husband,
Sykes. He was also mentally and verbally abusive to her by calling her names and constantly teasing
her. This can be seen when he pretends to scare Delia with a snake, and then calls her names for being
scared. In Zora s life, this is seen where she also grew up as an abused child from her father. Her
father did not like her very much because her sassy attitude. He said that she was too spirited and too
mouthy for her own good which hurt her feelings and made her very aware that she was not his
favorite child in the family (Boyd 27). Her father would also physically abuse her by threatening and
spanking her as a child. In the story, Sykes represents Zora s father because they were both abusive
towards women. Zora included this detail in her story to explain her life as a child. The story is put in
the perspective of a grown woman who had been abused, but how she would feel the same pain a
child would feel who had been abused. No matter the person s age, anyone

Numerical Modeling Of Turbulent Flow Through Bend Pipes Essay
NUMERICAL MODELING OF TURBULENT FLOW THROUGH BEND PIPES

Abstract A numerical investigation has been carried out for incompressible turbulent flow through
900bend pipes. The model is based on the numerical solution of conservation equations of mass and
momentum. The results of the simulations of the flow in the form of contour and vector plots for two
types of pipe bend both mitre and smooth bend with seven different Reynolds numbers (2.0+E04,
2.5+E04, 3.0+E04, 3.5+E04, 4.0+E04, 4.5+E04 and 5.0+ E04) are presented in this paper. From the
obtained results, it is seen that the mitre bend produces more turbulent kinetic energy, eddy viscosity,
skin friction factor compared to the smooth bend. To put an emphasis on the smooth bend for different
R/D ratios, the static pressure distribution along the inner, outer wall and the pressure loss factor with
different Re numbers are analyzed. However, it is noticed that as Re increases the pressure gradient
changes rapidly at the inner and the outer wall of the bend. Again, the total pressure loss factor k
increases as the R/D ratio decreases and due to higher velocity heads factor k decreases as Re
increases. The numerical results are found to be in a good agreement with experimental

Rubiks Cube
How many of you have ever tried to solve this? I wouldn t be wrong if I say all of you, once in your
lives have tried to solve it, and I do know that you all tried to answer questions you didn t know. What
if I said the secret of the future is in a Rubiks Cube? Since the beginning of humanity people ask
themselves Where did I came from? , What am I doing where? and Where am I going? and after all of
these years we still did not know, or we only thing we don`t know. Somethings are just so complex
that we stop trying to achieve when they actually could be easier than you think. Trying something
new or unknown to us is always a difficult task. The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear,
and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. People need to label things, and who

Not being in control means not being in charge of the outcome of whatever it is inside that box, and
this is why we are so scared about facing the unknown. Now, try to imagine this cube as the
Unknown. You don t know how to solve it, you don`t know how it works, but someway, if you view it
from a different angle, you can find its pattern and give it a meaning. Put it in a box . When dealing
with faceless things, always imagine them as things you already know and try to fit them in a box you
already have. Keep in mind that things usually are much easier than they seem and giving up should
always be the last circumstance. Replace the fear of the unknown with curiosity. It is part of the
process of evolution facing the faceless, and if you don t take risks you will never find yourself, or
find meanings for your life. I am not saying that it is easy, but it is necessary. Get out of the box and
try new things. The unknown is a door for something different, and maybe if you open it, you will find
a whole new world of experiences. The future is the unknown, and the only secret to achieve it is to
take risks and never stop trying.

Higher Skill For The Next Level
Higher Skill for The Next Level
Looking at my background as a student from Indonesia writing and knowing that English is not my
first language makes me unconfident about myself, and I had a problem mainly in structuring my
sentence and grammar. When I first came to De Anza I did not have any confidence about my writing,
and after I took the placement test I was placed in EWRT 211 and I took it this summer. The first day I
came to the class, I felt so frightened that I could not do well in the essays and could not catch up with
other students because of the fast pace in summer session. However, after I took EWRT 211 with Prof.
Mary Diehl and as I wrote couple of essays I become more confident about myself as a writer. After
working in each essay I got assigned on, and learning about how to be a better writer, and I am feeling
positive and very confident going to EWRT 1A.
In my first out of class essay What is So Important About Appearance? , I learned many new skills
that I ve never learned before. The most helpful thing that I learned from this essay is about comma
splices. Before knowing what a comma splice is I made silly mistakes such as forgetting to use the
FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so). For example most people do not really care about what we
are wearing, maybe some people do care . In this sentence I should use one of the FANBOYS and
after the comma. However, after doing some reading and rewrites now I have the ability to avoid
comma splices. For

Fair Trade And Its Effects On Society
Fair Trade
Who am I? I work around twelve to fourteen hours every single day, I make barely enough money to
survive, I work in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world, and I am exploited based on
the poverty I live in. I am a garment worker in a developing country. While most people would assume
that this describes slaves a long time ago, this is actually a current issue that we have a much greater
impact on than we may realize. When we purchase clothing from stores such as H M or Forever 21,
with every dollar tank top, or a cheap pair of jeans we purchase, we are encouraging this sort of
modern day slavery. The label for Fair Trade was created in 1988, and over the years, the certification
has changed rapidly and now there are a number of standards companies have to abide by to achieve
the Fair Trade label. Due to this, consumers are now guaranteed of the morality of the product
(Marcovitz page 27). The book Fair Trade describes what Fair Trade really stands for by saying, Fair
Trade displays a radical shift in trade policy by using morality instead of personal and corporate gain
as the motive in the world economy (Fair Trade page 1). This means that instead of getting wealthy
being the main goal for the entrepreneurs at the top of companies, the goal is to help workers and
make the world a more fair place. They do this by paying a living wage to their employees, giving
them contractual rights, giving them a reasonable amount of hours, and countless other of

Summary Of Letter From Birmingham Jail By Elizabeth Costello
For almost any right movement, or important period of time, in the history of the world, there are
readings that will correlate with these movements. For example, during the Civil Rights Movement
there was Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr., for the feminism movement, there
was Riot Grrrl Manifesto, and so many more important readings that go along with important
movements. These readings all have one common thing in common, they call for action in some part
of the movement. In The Lives of Animals by J.M. Coetzee, there are some points made by Elizabeth
Costello, the main character of the novella that could be used to represent the views that this group

Reincarnation is the belief that after one dies they will be reborn into another living being. Looking at
Costello s beliefs from this standpoint, Doniger argues that the Hindus for a while believed in not
eating meat because they had the possibility of being reborn as what they were eating (i.e. a cow, a
pig). Since she looked at it from this viewpoint, it is reasonable to believe that it is odd for people to
be eating what they could become in the future, and they will be spited for doing so. Along with
becoming an animal that they have eaten in their previous life, these people would eventually become
food for other people, and this is where the belief in karma kicks in, what comes around goes

Summary Of The Song Pretty Hurts
Music is a really powerful thing that should not be taken lightly nor underestimated. Every song has
the ability to explore themes and issues in society through lyrics and music videos. In December of
2013, successful singer songwriter Beyoncé Knowles came out with a lyrically challenging song,
Pretty Hurts which exposes the reality of the pageant world and in turn, the real world. The
combination of techniques and conventions used in both the lyrics and the music video such as camera
angles and symbolism are successfully used to create an effective song which reveals the harsh reality
of society, the high standards placed upon women to be beautiful and pretty and the lengths young
women go to just to fit in and the consequences of this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can see this happening within Pretty Hurts right after Beyoncé is asked what her aspiration in life
is and she answers in three simple words: to be happy. The most repeated words in the song being
pretty hurts is emphasised even more as Beyoncé begins realising what the toxic world of beauty is
doing to her and decides to wreck her shelf of trophies which she is seen standing in front of earlier on
in the music video. The symbolism of knocking down the trophies portrays that she is knocking down
beauty standards and falling into a victim of that, underlying all of these messages we can see that the
world of beauty doesn t bring you happiness or inner peace and it most certainly doesn t help you

Rikki Tikki Tavi is a well known mongoose who is a warrior and hero to many. Rikki Tikki Tavi, who
sometimes goes by Rikki, has a story that is told through book and movie. It is well known that when
watching a movie after a book they have very large or small differences. Rikki Tikki Tavi s book and
movie are both called Rikki Tikki Tavi but the book is by Rudyard Kipling but the movie is based off
of the book by Rudyard Kipling and is produced by someone else. The two have a lot of similarities
within them though they both have differences. In the movie Rikki Tikki Tavi is a strong mongoose
who fights two King Cobras in the garden in order to save his human family and the garden. Rikki
Tikki Tavi the book is the same story as the movie but has a lot of differences. The whole story starts
and ends with; The same start, The garden, and The Snake Fight.
Both the book and the movie are told the same and have the same characters but they have lost some
minor facts. The narrator in these stories says the same storyline as the movie and the book. This book

just an English family who moved to India. Yet in the book they are still an English family in India but

Changing A Little At A Time
Chapter 3: Changing a Little at a Time (Make a Difference)
If you won a million dollars what would you do? This is a common question people often ask. The
common response is going on vacation, buy a nice car, etc. But we often hear the response of giving to
charity and making a difference in the world. I am the same way. If I had a million dollars I would
want to make a difference in the world and give a lot of it to charity. The reality of me winning a
million dollars is extremely slim. However, I can still accomplish my goal, to make a difference, no
matter how much money I have. I have decided that in my own community I can make a difference

High School graduation finally rolled around. I had enough money saved up to spend 16 weeks in

And then I met a handsome young man that swept me off my feet. I was in a big dilemma. I could
either spend four months in Costa Rica and accomplish my dream of making a difference in a foreign
country, or I could get married to the man of my dreams. It was a very hard decision to make. It
brought me many sleepless nights, and in the end, I knew I needed to marry this boy and use the
money I had saved up for Costa Rica to help with wedding and future plans. It was devastating. But it
was eye opening. From that moment on, I knew I didn t need to go to some foreign land to make a
difference, I could stay right here in my own community and make just as big of a difference. There
are children here who don t have shoes to wear or food to eat. Some don t even have homes. Right in
our own back yard we are seeing poverty.
I have done, and am doing, several things now that I feel like are making a difference. For instance, I
am currently working with Cache County Extensions. A big difference that I see is making a
difference in the Latino community. We teach workshops on finances and nutrition to these
individuals. It is amazing to see the attitude of the people we help, especially in the financial

Events That Have Changed America Essay
Abraham Lincoln had it right when he said, My dream is of a place and time where America will once
again be seen as the last best hope of earth. From the time of Abraham Lincoln until now, America has
endured so much, but is still hopeful. Throughout history, there have been many events that have
changed America, such as, natural disasters, the Civil Rights movement, and multiple terrorist attacks;
having endured all of which gives people hope for a brighter future. Completely out of human control,
natural disasters take their toll on people by destroying properties and crops, as well as killing people.
There have been many tornadoes in the past, because of these events there are now better warning
systems and rebuilding programs. After hurricanes, many people open up their homes for people in
need. There are also many large scale refugee centers that help people that have lost everything due to
a hurricane. Adversity brings out a kindness and generosity that is not always present until a storm
wakes people up to the needs of others. A man made storm can also bring an awaking to American
society. The Civil Rights Movement took place from 1954 1968. The goal of the Civil Rights
Movement was to eliminate discrimination so equal rights were not contingent upon race. In 1954,

Child Developmental Theories Essay
Child Developmental Theories
When an infant arrives in the world they are helpless tiny humans who depend on adults for every
need from love, to feeding them. It is amazing how these tiny babies grow into adults able to make
decisions and become self dependent. There are many theories about how children develop and what
roles the environment plays, what people affect their lives and how events can shape their
personalities. Some of these children have and easy life and some have a harder time making that
journey to adulthood.
Child development was largely ignored throughout most of human history and refers to that which
occurs from birth to adulthood. Infants and children were mostly viewed as a smaller version of ...

Cognitive development is the way a child sees, thinks and gains understanding of the world through
interaction, influence, learned and genetic factors. There are four areas of intelligence and child brain
development. They are: biological approaches to intelligence, cognitive succession of stages,
knowledge, and intellectual ability.
Many child development centers, preschools, and school programs are passed on Jean Piaget s
cognitive development theory. When you combine the theory with teachers challenging a child s
ability without introducing concepts beyond their understand, hands on learning, field trips, art crafts,
and games you have the perfect learning program for children.
The environment and object in the environment play a large role in cognitive development around
seven months old. What an infant learns to do naturally is just as important such as like learning to roll
over or eat solid foods. Later in toddlerhood children learn symbols and language in pre operational
cognitive development stage which shows intelligence abilities.
As children get older egocentric thinking will begin to dominate in a non logical and non reversible
way, and this will give a more developed imagination and will improve memory. The child grows into
adolescents and the operational stage of cognitive development with the use of symbols and abstract
concepts grows and shows more

Consequence Based Ethical Theory: Advocated by Jeremy Banthan
Let us first discuss Utilitarianism, on which, lies the whole development of the consequence based
ethical theory. Utilitarianism can be defined as :
An individual act (x) or a social policy (y) is morally punishable if consequences resulting from (x)
and (y) produce greatest amount of good for the greatest number of persons affected by that policy .
All the people who believe and abide by the concept of utilitarianism are known as Utilitarian s.
Utilitarian s have always argued that the consequences by an act to the greatest number of individuals
in a given society deserve consideration in moral deliberation. They believe that if an act produces
happiness to the majority of people, then that act should be allowed.

  • 2. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ( Ocd ) And All The... The story is an intriguing tale that I would argue explicates and profoundly depicts the different dynamics associated with the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and all the corresponding tendencies that exacerbate the anxiety. The main character, Mr. Melvin Udall s behavior and actions speaks volume about the debilitating effects of the disorder. He seems to constantly have unwanted and intrusive thoughts that can t seems to get out of head, making him obsessed with it, Example the constant irrational worry about dirt at home, in the restaurant, on the streets so as to not come in contact with germ, virus or disease, and excessive concerns with order, arrangement, or symmetry, as well as Feeling overly responsible for the safety of others a distasteful religious and sexual thoughts or images. The anxiety that is developed as a result of the above tendencies that compels him throughout to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and arrangements, such as cleaning, repeatedly washing of his hands and one occasion bathing for hours, while Helen, the waitress waited for him to go a date, clearing demonstrating the compulsion that is too often difficult to control, even though it appears irrational. It must be said that this compulsive aspect of the symptoms tend to help him mitigate or ease the anxiety that persist. So in a narrow sense the compulsive behavior serves as a positive remedy or coping strategy, but generally it is irrational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Madagascar Lemurs And Spies Sparknotes This documentary, Madagascar, Lemurs and Spies, was touching both in terms of realization of what is at stakes here and the overall separation there is between our society and what happens in the most biodiverse places on the planet Earth. The overall combination of beautiful landscapes from Madagascar, the sensibility and love for these animals shown by the scholar living there and the constant danger and drama present in this situation of conservatism on this Island produce a perfect accord for a great documentary. The beauty of the Silky Sifaka or pure white lemurs is astonishing and it is a shame that we need to protect so intensively creatures of this value. They are critically endangered and are only found on the island of Madagascar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the trees cut down will be used especially for furniture like tables, chairs, or desks, but also for expensive guitars like Gibsons. The amount of wood timbered illegally is both impressive and terribly sad. The saddest part is that without even realizing it we are complicit in this situation since most guitars and furniture are sold in the United States, Europe or even China as mentioned in the documentary. These objects sell for a lot of money to wealthy people and this contributes to the development and growth of illegal deforestation. I find unbelievable the amount of wood taken down and at the same time there is no action made by the government to stop the trade. It seems that foreign countries do more the conservation of the forest and the specie than the country of Madagascar or at least this is how it is depicted in the documentary. Overall, this short movie provides a good point of view on the situation, however, I believe that there is not a strong enough emphasis on the other threats possible like global warming, hunting or any other possible conservation issues. It is mainly focused on the wood trade and the danger concerning lemurs in this place, but usually species are not endangered just because of one cause. Global warming is a growing concern all around the world and Madagascar, being an island, could be touched even more by the sea level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Museum Of Glass Art Movement Robert Clark Palusky, b.1942 Duluth, MN, is a pioneer in the contemporary glass art movement. A prolific artist, Palusky s career in glass spans four decades. His work is featured in museums around the world and celebrated in many world class private collections. Most prominent show to date includes Tête à Tête: Figures Humaines (Ten Masters in Glass) a show featuring Palusky along side Pablo Picasso, Salvidore Dali, and Jean Arp. Typically, in order to see Palusky s artwork in person, you would have to travel to museums in Switzerland, Japan or Spain, or in the U.S. to the Museum of Modern Art or the Corning Museum of Glass. However, due to sheer luck, Palusky s work is on display right here in Saratoga Springs at the Equine Gallery at Studio di Luce which benefits The Foal Project (www.foalproject.org). The gallery is located at 480 Broadway on the main floor right next door to City Hall. I ve been blessed to know Robert Palusky (Bob) and his wife, Virginia (also an amazing artist in her own right) for quite some time, and they have been great friends of the Foal Project as well. When the Equine Gallery opened a few months ago, it only made sense to ask if I could showcase one of his pieces, to highlight his work, and introduce this remarkable artist to the Saratoga community. I was honored when he was kind enough to oblige. I had no idea which piece he would agree to send to Saratoga, however, it was no surprise to discover there was a horse involved. ... • 7. Grief And Trauma Introduction: I have learned a lot in the Intro to Abuse course, including how I respond to traumatic events; how abuse affects attachment and how my caregivers affected my self esteem; my resiliency as well as the skills, traits and professionalism necessary to work effectively with abused children. I will use this knowledge to develop a better understanding of myself and to become a better Child and Youth Care practitioner. Grief and Trauma: This course has taught me how I respond to traumatic events. As a young child, my parents unintentionally negatively impacted my self esteem in a variety of different ways. Due to my undiagnosed learning disability, I often misinterpreted or failed to understand rules and instructions without my parents realizing it. I would frequently get in trouble because I broke a rule or failed to do what my parents wanted me to without even knowing it. My parents thought that I was just being difficult so they would yell at me or punish me and because I had no idea what I had done wrong, I felt like I was a bad kid because I was always getting in trouble. I would also misinterpret what my parents were trying to say a lot of the time, which was also often damaging to my self esteem. For example, when I scored my first goal playing hockey I was so excited and proud of myself and thought my parents would be too, since they would always tell our family if one of my siblings scored. However, my dad told me that he did not care if I scored a goal and I interpreted it to mean that he did not care about me or that I scored and only cared if my siblings did, but what he meant was that he was proud of me whether I scored or not as long as I was doing my best. My parents also damaged my self esteem by belittling me or shaming me when they got frustrated because I was not doing what they wanted. For example, my parents would say things like, why can t you be more like your sister, she can put her seat belt on, why can t you? . This led me to feel like there was something wrong with me and that I wasn t good enough. It also caused me to start comparing myself to my siblings, which made me feel inadequate because it seemed like no matter how hard I tried, I could never measure up to what they could do. However, once my parents discovered that I had a learning disability that caused me to misinterpret nonverbal, social and complicated verbal cues, they did their best to ... Answer with reference to relevant theories and use comparative country and/or corporate examples. Word count: 2,608 To understand the differences between Japanese and Chinese business systems we must first understand the meaning of a business system . A business system is a methodical procedure or process, used as a delivery mechanism for providing specific goods or services to customers in a well defined market (1). Therefore it seems that Japanese business is like a family, employing their workers for life in a closed community of loyal, trusted and harmonious beliefs. Economy: Japan enjoyed a period of high productive development since the end of World War II. It boomed in the late 60 s and 70 s and then came to an immense halt in the 80 s and 90 s and still vacillating today. Since the beginning of 60 s, Japans growth has been called a post war economic miracle (11). This is because, in that time, they had an average growth rate of 10% in the 1960s, 5% in the 1970s, and 4% in the 1980s (11). In this time, according to Richard Katz in his book Japan: The System That Soured the Japanese government applied a developing country strategy which involved very low interest rates so that Japanese companies, that during that time, needed money to start up their businesses, could take out loans at a extraordinarily cheap price (10). They also used a system called WAT. This system was a peer to peer complementary currency system (12) which would allow for small businesses to issue IOUs (called WAT ticket) to their suppliers (12). This allowed for a high cost structure (10) where efficient manufacturers and inefficient service related sectors were able to co exist (10). • 10. Teenage Rebellion Research Paper The Similarities and Differences of the Causes of the Rebellion in Upper and Lower Canada The causes of the Rebellions of 1837 in Upper and Lower Canada have similarities and differences. For example, both Upper and Lower Canada had problems with their government, not having a representative or responsible one. They also both had a group, the Family Compact in Upper Canada and the Chateau Clique in Lower Canada, that had a lot of money and power. Another similarity is that they both had a document trying for change that got shut down by the government, Gourlay s petition in Upper Canada, and the 92 Resolutions in Lower Canada. The proposed union of 1822 also contributed to the Rebellions of 1837 in both Upper and Lower Canada, as both they disapproved of union of the two colonies. The proposed union of 1822 could also be considered a difference in the causes of the rebellions, since the union would make the French in Lower Canada, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, the government in both Upper and Lower Canada both were neither representative nor responsible, it was an oligarchy. Even though anyone (landowning men) could have been elected as part of the Legislative Assembly, the Legislative Assembly only could suggested ideas. Any suggestions could be vetoed by the councils or the governor, who were all appointed by Britain, making the assembly ultimately have no power in the government. This was a huge issue because the councils were mostly made up of the Family Compact (in Upper Canada) and the Chateau Clique (in Lower Canada). Which leads to the second similarity of the causes, the power structures, the Family Compact and the Chateau Clique. Both of these upper class groups wanted different things than the lower classes. Based on Habits as Change Levers by Daniel Denison and Levi Nieminen, the authors give an example on how changing keystone habit can affect other habit and be advantageous. To start with, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is an authority that manages all public transportation in New York City and surrounding areas including Long Island. This includes a high volume subway system, which carries an average of 5.4 million passengers per day (1.6 billion per year) (Denison and Nieminen 26). The subway service not only helps the New Yorker to escape the traffic congestion, but also tourist to get around the city. So, it was crucial for MTA s crews to make sure the subway system is operating without stop and safely. However, the subway system must still be repaired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This unprecedented decision was made when the subway system experienced several high profile safety incidents. It involved a worker fatality and a blizzard that left some passengers stranded for 10 hours without food, water and heat. This allows the maintenance crews to access the tracks, signals, cables and other rail components without any interruption. At first, the public outcry over the new subway service because they never accustomed to any interruption to the service. However, the program has given many benefits over time. It was reported that it has improved productivity, saved money (estimated savings of $16.7 million in 2012), cut accident rates nearly in half, and increased train reliability by nearly 5% (26). Indeed, Karen Carpenter needs to change her way of thinking in order to treat her disorder, and in order to do so, punishment need to be associated to losing weight and reinforcement to gaining weight. Even if most anorexic patients deny their disorder, hospitalization is always the best way to keep the person alive by imposing weight restoration (Davison et al., 2013). Then, the cognitive behavioural therapy can come into play by reinforcing eating with a reward. For instance, patients are totally isolated and the only moment they see their family or have access to any divertissements is when they eat. According to Davison et al., (2013), disorders are the result of unconscious conflicts in the individual . The psychoanalytic paradigm concentrates on childhood and defines what the individual has been through during childhood is reflected in his/her adulthood. Davison et al., (2013) stated that anorexia nervosa disorder usually starts to develop in adolescence due to past unstable relationships between parents and the child. Indeed, being overprotective and overinvolved in the child s life by taking all the decisions for him without giving him a voice, as it is seen in the case of Karen Carpenter, lead the child to feel powerless, insecure, and have a low self esteem. A lack of control is felt by the child and is then transformed into high self control later on. Approaching adolescence, the child becomes more conscious about the society demands on appearance and as a result respect those requirements to be accepted by transforming him/herself into a thinner silhouette. This self control over a strict diet creates an identity to the individual. According to Mushatt (1983), problems in the family increase the probability to develop an eating disorder as anorexia nervosa. The roles played by the parents of Carpenter family were well defined: her mother has control over everything and her father was following her mother s commands in order to satisfy her. Concerning Karen s father, his passive behavior did not help to lower the anxiety level felt at home and to bring back stability within the family. Indeed, being a perfectionist mother does not help the child to grow up normally. The fact that Karen s mother was over controlling could also have participate in her development of the anorexia Nervosa disorder. Karen was not taking her own decision which is defines as it as an infantilizing decision making by Msuhatt (1983). As explained in her biography, Karen Carpenter did not even ... Looking to my right and I saw large number of large mountains that were densely covered with jungle vegetation. I looked down and noticed the clouds below me. Our altitude was very high because I noticed the air getting colder. We finally reached the top of the mountain. Our guide showed us around the ruins. Walking around, I saw the unique arch architecture of the doorways. There was a carving of an eagle on a circular stone on the ground. Our tour continued as our guide showed us to a large, flat field where the Incas did their celebrations and rituals. There were llamas grazing on the field. One llama walked up to me and sniffed me. The llama was brown with black legs. I looked into the llama s face and it looked like it was smiling! From there, I walked to the edge of the mountain and looked down. There was a steep cliff with only jungle vegetation at the bottom. At the bottom there was a little river with a rope bridge to cross it. I walked down the Inca Temple and out the Incan houses glancing up one last time at the remains of the mighty city. I thought of what used to be up there and how glorious it was. Steam engines were used as transport engines in trains (locomotives) and canals. This was so it would be easier and faster to transport goods and people. The development of Delia s character throughout the story relates to Zora Neale Hurston s life of growing up into a strong, empowered woman. Delia and Zora were both verbally and physically abused which made them afraid and timid. Zora made her characters talk in a dialect that she grew up listening to which was uncommon to do in literature. Delia and Zora both had to provide for themselves by putting in the effort remain stable and happy. They also stood up for what they believed in which started their development into strong women. They became stronger because of these things which empowered them to take back control of their lives. The snake is a symbol in the story that represents the evil that was overcome by the good. This story can now be better analyzed when looking at the life of Delia which connects to Zora Neale Hurston s life. Delia was physically abused many times by her husband, Sykes. He was also mentally and verbally abusive to her by calling her names and constantly teasing her. This can be seen when he pretends to scare Delia with a snake, and then calls her names for being scared. In Zora s life, this is seen where she also grew up as an abused child from her father. He said that she was too spirited and too mouthy for her own good which hurt her feelings and made her very aware that she was not his favorite child in the family (Boyd 27). The model is based on the numerical solution of conservation equations of mass and momentum. The results of the simulations of the flow in the form of contour and vector plots for two types of pipe bend both mitre and smooth bend with seven different Reynolds numbers (2.0+E04, 2.5+E04, 3.0+E04, 3.5+E04, 4.0+E04, 4.5+E04 and 5.0+ E04) are presented in this paper. From the obtained results, it is seen that the mitre bend produces more turbulent kinetic energy, eddy viscosity, skin friction factor compared to the smooth bend. To put an emphasis on the smooth bend for different R/D ratios, the static pressure distribution along the inner, outer wall and the pressure loss factor with different Re numbers are analyzed. However, it is noticed that as Re increases the pressure gradient changes rapidly at the inner and the outer wall of the bend. Again, the total pressure loss factor k increases as the R/D ratio decreases and due to higher velocity heads factor k decreases as Re increases. The numerical results are found to be in a good agreement with experimental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
