Essay on Intel s Strategy for the 1990s
Case II 13: Intel Corporation В– Strategy for the 1990s Is Intel still a technology leader? How well
do the three corporate macro strategies outlined in the case serve to guide Intel through the 1990s?
INTEL S STRATEGY Intel s strategy in 1990 is to be the architectural leader in microprocessors, a
proprietary, high profit margin business. This implies an emphasis on design skills and the ability
to implement design architectures. They also want to continue as the leader in transistor density.
This implies the continued importance of process technology skills associated with line width
reduction . Intel wants to be a world class manufacturer. This is particularly important because their
corporate strategy is to be the sole... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his view, high volume semiconductor manufacturers learn more quickly than low volume
producers. Part of this learning capability is due to the close linkages they have with equipment
vendors. The implication of Parker s view is that Intel is now a technology follower because of
relatively weak linkages with equipment supplier. To improve Intel s technology leadership, they
must improve these linkages. Barrett believes that Intel is a technology leader and that
manufacturing improvements have accelerated since the exit from the DRAM business. He
attributes this to improved engineering techniques, not advances in process equipment. He agrees
with Chou that high volume manufacturing is not critical to success. This view is somewhat
contradicted by selectively staying in the EPROM business В– a high volume, commodity business.
Upon further examination, however, his belief is that EPROMS are not critical because they
provide advantages for learning, but because they provide a critical link between Intel and its
competitive environment. Staying in a commodity business allows Intel to learn how to lower unit
costs and to use this knowledge across all of its products. These three senior managers have
different views of Intel s position and the changing nature of the industry. Parker s view suggests
that a volume product such as

Examples Of Love In The Hunger Games
Even in the most violent dystopian times, there is a way for love and trust to emerge. Reading
the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, many examples of love and trust are being shown during
PanemЕ› most violent entertainment games. Panem, is the futuristic United States made up of
12 districts and the Capitol. The Hunger Games are when two tributes, a male and a female
between the ages of 12 and 18, are chosen from each district to ВЁplayВЁ in a battle to the death.
The last tribute that stands is crowned victor of the games. Katniss and Peeta are the tribute of
District 12 since they were picked for the reaping. During the Games theyЕ•e referred as the

Later, they end up forming an alliance together. Katniss and Rue just ate and they already fully trust

displays how she does not openly trust just anyone in the Games, considering how lonely she was
before. Letting Rue in KatnissЕ› sleeping bag is an important event because through all the
violence and killing that has happened she trusts her not to kill her in her sleep. Katniss is growing

Compare The Early Civilizations Of The Indus River Valley...
During the early civilizations The Nile River Valley and the Indus River Valley Civilization were
the two that stuck out the most to me. Both of these civilizations where built near a river or on a
river where the water could be used as power. They both have a lot of differences and things in
common. In the beginning I m going to explain some important facts about the Indus River Valley
Civilization.
In 2500 B.C. the Indus River Valley Civilization was formed. The Indus civilization was around
for 1000 years, but then disappeared off the planet without a trace. The civilization did not leave
behind any types of records. So there was no way for people to study their way of life. Today in
present day the civilization is located in Pakistan. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nile people always valued, praised, and showed lots of respect to the pharaoh s family. In
the Indus Valley Society lots of diseases and wars were prevented because of the Indus
Mountains and the Arabian Sea. The Indus River was a very important source of transportation
to the people of that civilization. The Indus River provided rich soil for the farmers, and they
were able to harvest crops. Most of the people in the Nile River Civilization were farmers. They
also had servants, who served the wealthy and created the pyramids. They had craftsmen, who
created tools and progressed the looks of tombs. The Indus Valley Civilization had certain social
classes you could be born in, and you had to stay in that social class for the rest of your life.
Kshatriyas were soldiers and aristocrats who weren t as highly recognized as Brahmins. Shudras
were peasants and servants. Vaishyas were farmers, craftsmen, and merchants also called low
class citizens. Brahmins were the Alpha male such as the king and priests. In each village they had
a teacher who taught the young children. In the Indus Civilization, priests were highly recognized
and religion had a lot to do with how cities were ran, and Rajahs ruled cities. They created
irrigation systems which used rivers as transportation. The people of the Nile civilization would

The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd
The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a
number of reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Some felt it provided closure to a painful and
traumatic part of Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years
after proven to change the circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health,
education, economic opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice
system are all areas which should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014).
However; as this essay will explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual
fact in some ways the gap has been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology
was a significant historical event but it is important to explain why it happened before examining
the affects it has had on the Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014).
The Apology was more then just simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by
the Australian Government that previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing
thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be
placed with White families and missions (religious camps which taught children white values
essentially removing them from all their cultural roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). This practice had
incredibly adverse affects on families, the children removed as

The Link Between The Term Pidgins Essay

PIDGINS IN SUDIA ARABIA Pidgin could be defined as a language that results from two
different people who are not able to speak a each other language so they can interact with and
understand each other.
This is situation can be a result of different circumstances like war, colonization, slavery and
international trade.
Some definitions of pidgins although are pidgins have no static definitions : Ferguson (1971)
refers to pidgins and creoles as simplified speech used to communicate with people who are
considered unable to understand normal speech, such as babies or foreigners. One of the essential
points that should be clarified in this context is the link between the term pidgins. This linguistic
variety is used in the contact between two speech communities from two different linguistic
backgrounds (Al Azraqi 2010; Al Moaily, 2008).Bresnan and Roberts (2008:272) state that pidgins
develop as auxiliary languages and thus lack native communities, at least initially .
Although the contact is between two languages, the vocabulary of a pidgin comes particularly from
one dominant language called the lexifier or superstrate , while the non dominant language is
called the substrate (Al Moaily, 2008; Bizri, 2009; Al Azraqi, 2010). Pidgins also do not have a
stable grammatical structure and they are usually used specifically among adults for a short
period of time (Al Azraqi, 2010). However creoles are classified as more

French And Indian War Causes
The French and Indian war started in 1756 and lasted until 1765. The war cost a lot of money,
King George III made the colonists pay for the war by raising taxes. The taxes from the war
made the colonists angry and revolt against the crown. King George III was doing what was best
for the United Kingdom not the colonists. In his eyes the colonists were peasants. He put the
people of the United Kingdom first. Benjamin Franklin made the famous cartoon join or die to
inspire the people to fight in the French and Indian war. he was a very respected man and the first
general postmaster in the colonies. The british didn t want to anger the indians more than they

The Quartering Act made citizens in the colonies house and feed british soldiers. If the colonists
weren t angry enough the crown made them pay taxes for printing things with ink, this was the
Stamp Act. This made the colonists very angry. Then the angry colonists received another tax in
1767 called the Townshend Acts. It made them pay extra for imported goods from Britain and
outlawed them getting imported goods from anywhere else. Then there was the Boston
Massacre where many good people lost their lives. In 1770 the colonists threw snowballs at the
british regulars which is a great offence but not enough to kill five people over it. Thats right
five people died from the musket barrels of the british regulars that gruesome day. It made the
colonists so angry at the crown, more angry than they had ever been before. The Tea Act in 1773
was outrageous. It made the colonists pay extra money for a most delightful beverage. It made
them pay extra money for tea. This made the colonists take action. That night the sons of liberty
dressed as mohawk indians they intercepted a boat of tea delivery and dumped it in the harbor.

Progressive Teaching Essay
Traditional versus Progressive Teaching Who loves school? What makes school enjoyable? Is it
the lectures, worksheets, and tests or the group projects, in class discussions, and games? When
thinking over these questions many people are unknowingly stating a progressive teaching style is
preferred. A progressive teaching style includes student participation and technology allowing more
people to enjoy learning by setting a custom pace and preferred personal style. It has become
apparent to educators how disconnected students are from the learning environment when lectures
are used as the sole teaching method. The discovery has led several people to find new ways to

Schools have adapted, in general, by now offering lessons to females, because of their greater
involvement in the modern work force. When only men were allowed to work many people felt no
need in educating women and saw female education as a waste of time. Author of educational
works Alan singer discusses, how teaching was ... a temporary job, for women until they
married, or for men until they entered a profession, as support for his strong belief in the need to
improve education. Singer wants to prove how low the education field was measured in terms
of jobs, basically not considering teaching a profession. A constant cycle of teachers, in and out
of the field, forced the curriculum to be able to be taught universally and with ease through the
lecture approach (Singer). A traditional learning environment is a lecture based course where the
teacher has full control over the education of our country s future voices which (s)he is bringing
up in worldly knowledge. Typically, the semester plan stays on track and a syllabus is completed
on time, however it is not as enjoyable of a style for the majority students and therefore not as
effective. The majority of students require an active learning environment. When a professor
discusses, one subject for a set amount of time, it is almost always a guarantee that the class pace
will be set well in advance with little chance of falling off course states the education ministry of

one morning he woke up and was change into a bug having to accept who he was and being
hated by his own family being isolated from his social life and having to put up with the

Robin Sharma s article that states: Change is hard at first messy in the middle and gorgeous at the
end. This article emphasizes that change is a hard process that can come as a challenge or goal for
someone, leading to testing their patients. Robin Sharma believe there are three stages of

Balanced Budget Amendment
As we discussed and read about this week in our class, the topic of the US Budget and how, why
and what should we do about it has become a topic with many views and opinions. The United
States of America currently holds over 16 Trillion dollars in debt based on our governments
spending practices for the last ten years. Two wars, numerous fiscal collapses and cliffs, a bubble
popped housing market, looming medical care costs from a socialized healthcare law and a
recession have caused the government to acquire enormous amounts of debt. This debt with caused
by what seems to be from irresponsible spending on both the Legislative and the Executive
Branches have done nothing to lessen this deficit. One idea that has been discussed not only in...

Proponents of these amendments also that running deficits over the long term or persistent deficits
can be dangerous as well. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of
consumer s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private
capital goods . This is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the
future. Growing Federal Debt can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of
crises can occur when debt levels become so large in relation to the economy s output that the
government has difficulty selling it. Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the
governments ability to repay its debt and refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced
purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often leading to inflation, reduction in government
services and programs and increased economic hardship on its citizens. There are several good
examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and Greece. The US saw a version of
this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt and its credit worthiness reduced
its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at lower interests rates.
A federal Balanced Budget amendment based loosely on those instituted by the States of this
country has many benefits. One such advantage

The Civil War
The Civil War
During both the civil war and civil war reconstruction time periods, there were many changes going
on in the Union. The Emancipation Proclamation, as well as legislation such as the thirteenth,
fourteenth and fifteenth amendments, was causing a new awakening of democracy; while the
renouncing of secession by the South marked a definite triumph for Nationalism. As well, the
government was involved in altercations of its own. During reconstruction, the legislative and
executive branches eventually came to blows over the use of power. The nation was being altered
by forces which caused, and later repaired, a broken Union.
The first of these forces , was the expansion of democracy. As early as 1862,... Show more content

Congress and the president began dueling over power distribution starting at about the time of
Andrew Johnson s presidency. Johnson became president after Lincoln s death and immediately set
the tone for the rest of his dealings with Congress. His plan for reconstruction was much to relaxed
for radical Republicans in Congress, and Johnson lacked the diplomatic abilities of
Lincoln. Johnson did prescribe loyalty oaths for southern whites if they were to receive pardon
and amnesty, he did exclude high confederate officials from that allowance, and he did require a
state convention of state leaders loyal to the Union to elect new congressional delegates. Johnson
did not, however include some provisions being called for by Congress. His plan recommended, but
did not require, the repeal of secession ordinances and repudiation of secession, repudiation of the
Confederate debt, and the ratification of the thirteenth amendment. These points absent from the
Johnson program were the instigation congress needed to take charge of reconstruction. The first
step by Congress, against Johnson, was taken in December 1865. Under Johnson s program,
southern representatives had been elected to Congress. A majority of congress voted to refuse
accepting the delegates, and appointed a committee to begin work on reconstruction. In 1866,
Congress overrode a presidential veto for the

All Our Relations by Winona LaDuke describes the neglect and unfair hardships that Native
American people have had to experience over time. LaDuke uses Aristotelian appeals such as
logos and pathos to tell how the white man disparaged these people. She spoke of Gail Small, a
Montana State University professor and a well known advocate for Native peoples. The way
LaDuke tells Small s story is perhaps the most and persuasive of all. Gail is the kind of woman
you d want to watch your back at a meeting with dubious characters. She will watch it, and she ll
guard your flank as well. And, when she is ready, she will send the opposition reeling. No matter
how limited her weaponry, she is able to muster it. (LaDuke, All Our Relations 75) LaDuke

Summary: According to Viele (2012), she states that when it comes to information literacy, there
seems to be an abundance of definitions. The most concise and all encompassing meaning is that
information fluency is a set of skills necessitating individuals to be able to distinguish when and
what actual information is needed. The author states that an individual should be capable to
effectively locate, evaluate, and use the needed information in making informed decisions that are
invaluable throughout life. In any situation whether it be preparing a presentation for class, a
poster, or writing a report, these steps should be completed in an ethical manner. In the article, the
author breaks down each of the information fluency skills in component parts. She also provides
explanations of how to do each with online tutorials links, helpful websites, and examples for
reference of good places to start when making sure that each skill is preformed effectively.

Ghrelin Emotions
It has been found that certain chemicals in the brain impact your feelings of being hungry or
satisfied. The two primary hormones are ghrelin, the natural appetite stimulating hormone, and
leptin, the natural appetite suppressing hormone. Ghrelin is a hormone produced in the stomach
that tells your brain when you are hungry, therefore stimulating your appetite. It has also been found
to slow your metabolismand decrease your ability to burn fat. The hormone leptin is produced in
adipose tissue. It does the opposite job; it tells your brain when you are full or satisfied. It
stimulates the burning of calories and increases your metabolism.

This design is intended for us to maintain normal, healthy weight. Our lifestyle choices can either
allow us to maintain normal weight or cause us to get out of sync. For example, if you do not
have adequate sleep you will create more ghrelin and less leptin. This will result in an increase in
appetite and reduce the burning of calories. Another example is when you reduce your food intake
when dieting; ghrelin production is increased. This increase sends a signal to your hypothalamus
that you need to eat more. It is this lack of sleep that forces your body to work against itself and not
maintain and optimal environment for a healthy weight.
Regular exercise helps to regulate ghrelin and leptin production. Exercise normalizes your appetite
and aids it in efficiently burning calories.
The foods that you select also affect ghrelin, leptin, and the satiety center of your brain. The brain
does not recognize simple sugars or artificial sweeteners as food. As a result of this, ghrelin will
stimulate your appetite even though you may not even be hungry. This increased consumption will

Figure 1 LTE deployment in small cells Why small cells? Small cells are beneficial in terms of
the following aspects: 1)Coverage: Adding capacity to high traffic areas and extend coverage to
hard to reach locations and indoor sites. 2)Capacity: Enhancing localized coverage 3)Data
offloading: Providing robust 4G LTE coverage to customers in challenging coverage areas Small
cells mainly consist of the femtocells, picocells, and microcells. The network can also be known
by distributed radio technology which consists of centralized baseband units and remote radio
heads. Beamformingtechnology (focusing a radio signal on a very specific area) can be
utilized to further enhance or focus small cell coverage . The common factor binding all of
these technologies is that all are centrally managed. [13] The range of small is from 10 meters
within urban and in building locations to 2 km for a rural location. Picocells and microcells can
also have a range of a few hundred meters to a few kilometres, but femto cells do not have the self

African American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of
slavery. While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no
way a static matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the
sentiments of their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the
country and the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and
creatively. Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of
death to escape slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more
hopeful future.
While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy
attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes s work can mainly be seen as the turning
point for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors
and figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the
time, Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn t be until many years later that the
full breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and
Martin Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and
King Jr. reflects those of Hughes

Operant Conditioning And Social Learning
When I was in my psychology class in high school, we spent a month talking about classical
conditioning and we did many interesting experiments involving it. We also touched on operant
conditioning and social learning, so I have some background knowledge in this subject. Classical
and operant conditioning, along with social learning, are all ways to teach animals or humans how
to behave. These theories developed because psychologists wanted to understand why people
behave the way they do and many famous experiments have been conducted to answer this
question. It was very interesting to learn more about these theories and how they work, and relating
them to my own personal experiences.
Classical conditioning is when a person or animal associates two stimuli and creates a ... Show more

The dogs would start to salivate just by hearing the bell ringing, which normally would not produce
this response. The first part of the process involves an unconditioned response, like blinking or
salivating. The next part needed for classical conditioning is an unconditioned stimulus. The
unconditioned stimulus is one that automatically produces the unconditioned response, such as the
smell of food triggering salivation. During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov
s case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. After a while, the
neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus. The conditioned stimulus then produces a
conditioned response, since the subject of the experiment has associated the conditioned stimulus
with the unconditioned response. Many interesting experiments have been conducted using
classical conditioning. Another scientist that preformed an experiment with classical conditioning
is John B. Watson. Watson used classical conditioned to make a young boy fear white fluffy
objects. He scared the child by making loud noises every time the child was presented a white rat.

Martha Stewart and the Imclone Scandal

Martha Stewart and the ImClone Scandal
On January 20, 2004, jury selection launched the trial of Martha Stewart, Chief Creative Officer
and former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Martha Stewart Living
Omnimedia (MSO). Nine charges filed by the Federal Grand Jury in New York and the SEC relate
to Stewart s personal sale of $228,000 in ImClone Systems, Inc. stock on December 27, 2001, one
day before regulators rejected the biotech company s cancer drug (Erbitux) and sent its stock
tumbling. Communications records show that Stewart placed an 11 minute cellphone call to her
assistant at 1:31 P.M. EST on December 27 to check her messages. The call was registered

misdemeanor charge of misleading investigators about the content of his phone call with Stewart
on December 27: he is expected to testify that Bacanovic made him lie to corroborate Stewart s
alibi, and that he himself informed Stewart that Waksal was trying to dump his stock that fateful
day. Feds also claim that four days before Stewart met with them, she altered her secretary s phone
log, changing the entry for December 27, 2001 to read Peter Bacanovic re: ImClone, rather than
the actual message Peter Bacanovic thinks ImClone is going to start trading downward. Also, in a
letter to congressional investigators, Stewart s lawyers say she talked with Bacanovic himself from
the tarmac on December 27, though Bacanovic was on vacation in Miami that day. Select
interpersonal communications and coincidences also raise questions for the defense. Phone records

Subliminal Messages Of Gender-Role Stereotypes
Subliminal and direct messages of gender role stereotyping can be found in advertisements for
children s toys, television cartoons, foods, and many other items that are marketed towards young
children. Specifically, children in the age ranges of six to ten years old. For example, McDonald s
Restaurant has a new Happy Meal commercial that runs often on television. Actually, it is a set of

the product in the two commercials are the same but the portrayals of the children in the

Professionalism As A Dentist
What is a dentist ? To some, the mere word invokes fear, to others, it is simply a person who
lectures about and drills teeth. To me however, a dentist is a healthcare provider that, with the
proper care and skills, is an integral part of his/her community. A dentist must apply excellence,
humanism, accountability and altruism, the four models that construct professionalism, to his/her
actions, thoughts and treatments. A dental professional s concrete knowledge and performance
level along with an understanding of the lawful rights encompassing dentistryand their ability to
explain and review these dental facets with their patients, is a few of the many ways that the four
propositions of professionalism may be expressed by a healthcare provider. With that said, I believe
professionalism as a dentist embodies the capacity to supply his/her local community with
responsible and superior care both in the tangible, physical sense through expert level practices and

Computers And The Price Of Prices Essay
Price had never been this low where a desktop costs only $499, whereas laptops are hovering
around $1100. Yet do not forget the $500 Apple mini sub compact laptop or the Apple iBook
laptop that sells for $650, and the stripped down $400 after rebate laptops companies like
Gateway and eMachine are flooding the market with to make money on volume of sales instead
of a high price margin. The problem is even if the price of PCs plummets the effect is not felt
immediately, because people do not rush to change their PC despite the fact they are getting it
cheaper, which means the PC turnover rate is low like most durable goods. That might be what is
contributing to the declining of prices, as the assumption of the manufacturers might be that if the
price goes low enough people might want to change their computer to avail themselves the latest
add ons. Even the add ons themselves seem to have reached their zenith some time ago and the
latest most alluring gadget that came into existence was CD/DVD RW and every reasonably
priced desktop or laptopis equipped with it. However, it does not mean the makers of PCs are not
coming up with new functionality, add ons, and price reductions to woo buyers. The other recent
addition was Wi Fi that got boost from the introduction of Intel s Centrino mobile technology chip

Analysis Of Rebecca West s The Return Of The Soldier
In Rebecca West s novel, The Return of the Soldier the reader is introduced to a man named Chris
Baldry who suffers from shell shock fighting in the war. When he returns home, he has no
recollection of the past fifteen years of his life. What he remembers, is being in love with a woman
named Margaret, the daughter of an innkeeper. However, what he inevitably comes home to is a
wife named Kitty and a cousin named Jenny who have been earnestly awaiting his return. Although
West portrays Chris to be a victim so to speak within the novel due to his amnesia, the real
trauma that he would experience was awaiting him at home, back at Baldry Court. Chris return
would lead to a major upset in the lives of the women in his life, but for himself as well despite
the fact he cannot account for a little over a decade of his past.
When Chris returns home, West makes it abundantly clear through the accounts of all of the
characters that he is not the man he was when he left to fight in the war. His own cousin Frank
even says, I never realized the horror of warfare until I saw my cousin... (pg. 40). Even Jenny
admits that he doesn t seem to be the same when she admits, By nights I saw Chris running
across the brown rottenness of No Man s Land, starting back here because he trod upon a hand,
not even looking there because of the awfulness of an unburied head... (pg. 7). The shell shock he
experiences causes him to lose not only parts of his past, but parts of himself as well. However,

Various woks have been done on OFDM. In OFDM, as all the carriers are added using an IFFT

nonlinear devices such as in 4G systems where OFDM is a downlink method and on board high

Reduction of peak to average power ratio is always a concern for researchers. Various methods have

IFFT involves 2 complex N log 2 N multiplications and additions; these are increased by a factor

avoiding SI are the major issues associated with SLM. Various schemes are available in literature
to modify SLM. A scheme is proposed for removing SI in SLM where phase sequence could be
easily decoded at the receiver after a level is inserted with each candidate as an identifier tag and
scrambling is used to avoid any direct manipulation of SI at the receiver. Here only a small
amount of redundancy increases the cost of hardware implementation. In this scheme removal
of SI is not proposed, only representation is changed. A magnitude scaled SLM method is
proposed, where a set of envelope function derived from Walsh sequences is used to scale the
power profile of OFDM signal and at the receiver envelope function along with a detection matrix
could easily identify the used phase at the transmitter. Another scheme proposed use of m

The Influence Of Philosophical Thinking During The...
The Enlightenment was a wide spread movement in philosophical thinking within Europe
throughout the 1700s. Prior to the Enlightenment, the Scientific Revolution in the 15 and 1600s set
up the basis of secular and introspective thinking that is characteristic to the enlightenment. During
the age of Enlightenment, many philosophers began to question the power and goals of the
government as well as the powers and rights of the people. These philosophers came together just as
scientific thinkers had come together during the Scientific Revolution in order to discuss and build
on each others ideas in the search of perfection. Critical thinking changed during the enlightenment
in several ways: first, political thought became less secular and sought to find the actual purpose of
a government; next, philosophes attempted to determine what rights were given to governments
and to people; and finally, during this time ideas on toleration and the rights of individuals were
expanded greatly. In medieval times, most European civilians followed laws based on the church.
Their compliance of the law was based on fear of governmental and religious punishments.
Throughout the Renaissance, the Scientific Revolution, and the eventual Enlightenment, people s
views on government began to become more secular. Many people began to view their leaders as
less of a tool to punish them for sin and tried to determine the actual purpose of their government. In
his Second Treatise on Government, John

Ancient Greece is, of course, regarded as the foundation of Western society and European
culture. Thus the plight of the Greeks in their struggle for independence aroused the sympathy
of many Europeans, from commoners and government officials to kings and queens. This led to
the formation of the London Philhellenic Committee, which helped to finance the war. The
great British romantic poet, Lord Byron (1788?1824) was seized by the romance of the Greek
cause, imagining a reborn land of Socrates (c. 470?399 BCE) and Plato (c. 428?348 BCE), and
set off to Greece to take up arms in the cause of Greek independence. He helped raise money as
he made his way south but died of a fever in Greece. Nonetheless, his death made him a martyr of
sorts and increased European sympathy for the Greeks. Two years later, the French romantic
painter, Eug?ne Delacroix (1798?1863), painted his famous representation of the Ottoman massacre
of Greeks at Chios in 1822. Like Byron?s poetry, Delacroix?s art further cast the Greeks in a

Objectivity And The Phenomenological Reduction
Objectivity is a funny way of people justifying their own subjections. Edmund Husserl is the guy to
talk to if you want to be confused by what objectivity means. I say confused, because Husserl s path
through the end product of the phenomenological reduction leads him to contradictions, which
generate revisions of his investigation. Eventually his revisions lead to a happy phenomenological
objective ending and will be discussed along with another objectivity viewpoint: The View from
Nowhere. Lastly I ll give you my objective/subjective opinion on which objectivity I think is more
convincing. Objectivity to Husserl is what he considered the phenomenological reduction. The aim
of the initial phenomenological reduction is to individuate correctly the domain of pure
consciousness as the domain of meaning constitution (Moran 78). I ll attempt to use logicas an
example: the proper objectof logic is to study the relationship between the contents of expressions
and what is being expressed; Modus Ponens states that if p then q is accepted, and the antecedent p
holds, then the consequent q may be inferred. Logic is only interested in the functional relation
between the truthvalue of p and q in the domain where Modus Ponens is applicable. Because
logic, in one domain is only interested in the functional relation between p and q, its overall truth
value is limited to a one sided truth. Logic deals with validities and the laws in which hold between
them. Ideal laws of

justice system can potentially result in a harmful society. The question most asked about the death
penalty is, Why should honest, hardworking taxpayers, have to pay for murderers for the rest of

system. According to Dr. Ernest Gross, a Creighton University economics professor, who conducted
a study in August 2016, the death penalty cost an average 23.2 million more per year than
alternative sentences (Gross). The study found that states with the death penalty spend about 3.54%

History Of Deer Park Water Company Essay
Do you ever wonder about the origin story behind the brands that we use in our everyday lives?
Well there is a story behind the founding of Deer Park Water Company. After the Civil War, the
Deer Park Hotel was built in the Appalachian Mountains located in Maryland by the Baltimore
and Ohio Railroad. The hotel was created to attract those who took passage on the railroad, but
the spring that was located nearby also caught the attention of the travelers. The spring was
known for the appeal of a clean source of water, this led the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to start
putting the water into bottles in 1873. It was known as the Boiling Spring because the water
comes through sand on the way up. A company, known as The Boiling Spring Holding

Holding Corporation decided to put the spring to a use and made a profit bottling up the water and
selling it mainly throughout the New York area, until production eventually expanded across the

Post Mortem Examinations Yielded Investigators
Post mortem examinations yielded investigators to believe the killer kept the body in a cool
area before burying her in the shallow grave. Police speculated he did this to keep her as a
trophy and to avoid detection. Also, her ponytail was kept the same way since her disappearance.
To provide concrete proof, investigators called on a cryobiology expert. Through examination of
Leanne s heart tissue, this individual confirmed the killer kept the body in a cold, dry area for
several months. The first piece of evidencethat provided a useful fool to incriminate Taylor was
the dog collar. Police contacted over 100 suppliers until they contacted a company called Pets
Pajamas. This company kept computerized records and told officials they sent a mail order to
several customers in the Leeds area. John Taylor appeared on the list again who bought several
collars. With this individual s name appearing twice, police began to suspect their culprit. With
John Taylor achieving status of the primary suspect, police gathered a warrant to search his home.
This case also broke barriers, as it remains the first case to ever apply animal DNAin order to find
the perp. Hairstrands found on on the deceased s body did not belong to Teirnan. Through
microscopy, forensic scientist analyzed the hair s cuticle and based of scale configurations, they
concluded this hair belonged to a canine. This can be shown through the following image, image A

ELI Top Five Values
Based the the information in the ELI my primary values are no preference between Rationality
and Sensibility and Mild Autonomy , and my classical virtues are balance temperance and
prudence Being moderate and self restrained while making wise decisions in everyday affairs.
Additionally, my five top values from the clarifying your values exercise are competence,
excitement, freedom, honesty/integrity, and honor. Having primary values in the ELI suggesting
that I will likely make decisions based on both emotions, and principles is supported with my five
top values from the Clarifying Your Values exercise. For example, excitement, freedom, and to
some degree honor can be associated with emotional thoughts, or being sensitive to others, and
community expectations. Where as, Competence, honesty/integrity, and to some degree honor are
more closely aligned to principals, and group orientated rule sets. However, all five of the top five
values from the clarifying your values exercise fit whole into the area of mild autonomy where the
importance is on individuals, yet allows room for others opinions and expectations. For example,

A Social Media Marketing Plan
Marketing has evolved and grown tremendously throughout the years. If you have a Facebook or
instagram page you have seen some sort of marketing promotion or ad that a local business is
offering to draw in customers or a following. For instance Z Burger, a burger joint in the DC area
offered a promotion that went viral through Facebook offering $2 burgers and $4 veggie burgers
for the entire day of last Tuesday at their Columbia Heights location. I attended myself thinking it
was going to be ridiculously crowded but I beat the rush and the staff created a system that
provided a speedy service and less wait time to order and receive your food.
That event was so popular through Facebook that they are offering a second location and if ... Show

To launch social media marketing campaigns, all businesses need to do is sign up for free with each
social network they want to use. Once registered, businesses can create individual profiles for their
business and start posting content, such as industry trends, company news and promotional
information right away. This phenomenon has only developed within the last decade, thus social
media research has largely focused on (1) defining what it is through the explanation of new
terminology and concepts that makeup its foundations, and (2) exploring the impact of a company
s integration of social media on consumer behavior. This paper begins with an explanation of
terminology that defines social media marketing, followed by a discussion of the four main themes
found within current research studies: Virtual Brand Communities, Consumers Attitudes and
Motives, User Generated Content, and Viral Advertising.
Although social media marketing is a well researched topic, it has only been studied through
experimental and theoretical research; studies never precisely describe the benefits retailers gain
from this marketing tactic. In reviewing the rich plethora of multi disciplinary literature, it is has
become clear that studies are focusing on describing what social media marketing is as well as
examining what factors affect consumer behavior relative to social networking. Despite the initial
progress made by researchers, development in this area of

Black Americans And African Immigrants
The common bond of slavery is what draws Black Americans together, but is what drives Black
Americans and African immigrants apart. Many African immigrants have only read or heard about
racial discrimination, but have never faced it first hand. They admire what Black Americans have
done, but when they come to this country they and maintain a separate identity from native born
blacks. Because of the separation, whites were more willing to serve Africans and Black Americans
thought African immigrants were receiving better treatment from society (Reddick, 1998). Being
Black in America is already a complicated existence, but being a Black immigrant is a very
different existence. Black Americans often do not know the country their ancestors came from and
feel more American than African or Caribbean. African immigrants are often in an identity complex
because often they are not considered Black enough for the Black community and not being
American enough for the white communities. They are often overlooked when discussing
immigration policies though they are the fastest growing immigration population. Even though
African immigrants are more educated and find success they also struggle to find jobs in their field
due to racial discrimination (Omara, 2017)
Black alumni are enthused to see increasing numbers of Black students at elite schools such as
Harvard and Yale, but raises the question of what type of Black students are getting in (Rimer
Arenson, 2004). African immigrants

Downsize In The Workplace Case Study
You must develop a plan to downsize 15% of your employee population. Identify the steps you must
take.
The first step to take in planning for a downsize in an organization is letting all temporary
employees go and then move on to the regular part time employees. This is the logical and fair
way to handle inevitable layoffs. It is unfortunate for the individuals affected, however, this I the
most reasonable way to handle this issue. Next step would be to ask for any volunteers and advise
there will be an incentive involved. This can include severance pay for a specific amount of time to
include accumulated vacation and sick time. Also, it may offer insurance for an extended amount
of time giving the employees ample time to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What federal, state, regulatory guidelines must be considered when downsizing?
A determination should be made if the WARN Act applies to the organization and if it does, then
adhering to the guidelines set forth in the act. This is the Worker Adjustment and Retraining
Notification Act, enacted in 1988, requiring employers to provide a 60 days notice if they employ
100 or more employees. There are exceptions and circumstances to this act in which the employer
should have knowledge of as well. When the WARN Act is instated for an organization, the
representatives of the employees are required to be informed in a timely manner. Consequently, the
state or designated entity by the state and the chief elected official of the local government where
the plant closing or mass layoff is occurring are required to be informed in a timely manner as well
(Managing Downsizing by Means of Layoffs, 2015).
The equal employment opportunity laws are to be obeyed by the organization. Some of these laws
include the ADEA (Age Discriminationin Employment Act) and the Title VII of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964. Each state has law charts that include laws that employers are held accountable to. It
is always beneficial for the organization to obtain legal counsel to ensure that they are following the
laws and regulations (Managing Downsizing by Means of Layoffs,

1.1 Prions
Prions are an incongruous pathogen that is causative of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies
(TSE); a group of fatal neurodegenerative diseases found in mammals. This abnormal
proteinaceous particle is believed to be a post translational mutation of a normal cellular protein
found in the brain (Emmanuel, 2002). This naturally occurring pathogen acts similarly to a viral
infection, however as it lacks nucleic acid it is invulnerable to death via means of antibiotics or
sterilisation. PrPc and PrPsc, the known prion proteins indicative of TSE s, are known to bind to the
surface of neurons and fold these proteins into an abstract spongiform structure. Although the
process inducing this folding mechanism is unknown, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As no detection program existed, these waste products were often scrapie infested. It is believed
that the rendering process that existed at the time allowed the prion agent to survive, mutate and
overcome the species barrier to infect cattle (NCBA, 2017).
1.4 Symptoms and Detection
Clinical signs generally appear in cattle that are more than 30 months old. Incubation tends to last
4 to 6 years before finally killing the host. This extended lifespan is due to the spine and brain
being targeted late in the incubation period (NCBA, 2017). Currently no TSE detection test exists
for live animals; official diagnosis can only be made through an examination of brain tissue. Studies
have detected BSE most commonly in the brain, optic nerve and spinal cord. As such, diagnosis
must be made through observation of behavior.
Common symptoms include; deranged temperament, unusual posture, lack of coordination, muscle
tremors, decreased milk production and decreased body mass despite maintained appetite (National
Cattlemen s Beef Association, 2017). These iconic drunken mannerisms coined the term Mad Cow
Disease . It is noteworthy that not all affected cattle display symptoms. These carriers amplified
outbreaks as they were similarly rendered into ruminant protein rations.
1.5 Transmission
BSE is generally transmitted through the digestion of a contaminated vector (meat). Fortunately, as

The Impact Of The Walkman
The first manufactured portable music player The Walkman. In July 1979, Sony brought music
from traditional speakers and household radios to a portable cassette tape player The Walkman. At
that time, music was not considered being personal or private but rather being shared among a
group of people, journalists doubted that anyone would want to buy a tape player without a record
function just because it was handy. However, the first batch completely sold out at the end of
August and the demand of the Walkman continued to rise dramatically afterwards, copious new
models of the Walkman were released, and by the time of 1995, the total number of productions of
the Walkman had reached 150 million (Johnson, 2011). These results demonstrate that the Walkman
was a gadget that earned the love of many people and it successfully changed the attitude of people
towards portable and personal music. The concept of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Walkman was the first device that allowed the isolation of people with their surroundings,
which is a commonplace these days (Costello, 2009). Many subsequent ideas after the success of
the Walkman was based on the two main features of the Walkman, portability and privacy.
Nowadays, people focus most of their time on these gadgets and somehow become tied to them,
these gadgets formed a balloon around its user, detaching them from the real world. Pell (2010)
stated that headphones and portability of new products reduced people s interaction with each
other and it became harder for people to know each other in depth. Even in crowded environments,
people seemed to be in their own world, it was not surprising that there are criticisms on how the
Walkman made people anti social (Wagstaff, 2010). Therefore, the Walkman s greatest influence
was not the product itself, but the culture it

My Friends And I Speak Nonstandard English
My friends and I speak Nonstandard English because that is what we hear the most because that
is what most of our family speak. We insult each other and sometime we cuss at wach other. For
example when we insult each other we often call one another fat, ugly, and dumb. When we
insult each other it is not meant to hurt one another feelings. Some time our insult can be harsh
but that is how we relieve some stress. Our life is hard when we are at home because we struggle
day to day. So when we get the chance to hang out with each we try to make each other laugh. Also
when my friend and I decided to do something like skip class or go to a party and someone back
out we make fun of them. For example, we will call them scary, wack, or a weenie. We do this for
they can feel embarrass and so they can change their mind about backing out. I make fun of
them because when I was little my sister and brother always made fun of me because I was the
youngest so as I got older I wanted to do it back to other for I can feel like I have the power to
change someone s mind.
With my siblings, we tend to use body language when we are out in public. We do this when we
want to talk about someone we don t like and we do not want to say it out loud. For instance, if
we see someone that we do not like we look at each and laugh and look at that person we do not
like. Another example is when we see someone who is wearing something ugly on and they think
they are cute, we signal each

Harry Potter Disenchantment Of The World Analysis
The article by Michale Osteling, Harry Potter and the Disenchantment of the World , examined
the controversy between the views of the conservative Christians and the Secular Mainstream,
about the children s book series, Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling. For many conservative
Christians, the book is seen as a portal to the New Age, Wicca and diabolical magic. For the
Secular commentary, which included liberal Christians, view the book as a make believe, so it
should not concern Christians, because it is not a real occult magic. It is more of an instrumental
rather than religious and parallels technology (pp6). For Osteling, the book brought a breath of
fresh air, and a source of wonder to our boring modern existences (pp 4). Osteling believes that the
book is popular because Harry fulfils our hunger for enchantment, our search for something
numinous beyond the real... his magic is disenchanted, because he makes the extraordinary ordinary
and therefore, familiar and unchallenging. (pp 16.) Osteling presented many views from... Show

I do believe that our modern world is curious about the supernatural, and the spiritual aspects of
life. Even looking at children s cartoon shows like Scooby doo, we can see that difference. The
old Scooby doo, there would be ghosts and monsters, but they end up being a person pretending
to be a supernatural to scare others. In modern day Scooby doo, there was a time when the ghost
was actually real and no mask to reveal a person behind it. I believe shows reflect the belief of
the society and lately, there are many shows and movies related to the supernatural, or spiritual
like ghost hunters, haunted houses, and etc. Shows like that, I believe do lure people to the world
of supernatural, to witchcraft and etc., and for many that is quiet aright if they do. People can
actually say they are witches and not get punished for it or stigmatized for it in modern days.

The Sunshine Act Reporting Requirements For Medical Device...
All medical device companies and or life science institutions are required to track and report any
possible interaction that can be viewed as a transfer of value when interacting with U.S. physicians,
teaching hospitals, or teaching medical organizations under the Federal Sunshine Act. Starting
January 2016, the U.S. Federal Government modified the U.S. Sunshine Act reporting
requirements for medical device companies. Medical device companies must thoroughly detail the
product marketed name associated with transfer of value that is reported when interaction with a
physician takes place in and outside any health care setting. In the past, medical device companies
were only required by the federal government to report product used by family to which a specific
product belonged or was associated with to report the transfer of value. The Sunshine Act requires
Medtronic and other medical device companies or life science companies to track and manage any
and all data pertaining to all educational or marketing material presented to physicians and allied
care providers. All Sunshine Act reporting information recorded by field professionals or any
individuals who come into contact with healthcare providers is recorded, managed, and stored by
Medtronic s compliance and the Medtronic legal department. Medtronic has to follow Sunshine Act

Yucatan Peninsula Maya
Maya The Yucatan Peninsula is the exposed portion of the larger Yucatan Peninsula, all of which is
composed of carbonate and soluble rocks, being mostly limestone although dolomite and evaporites
are also present at various depths. The whole of the YucatГЎn Peninsula is an unconfined flat lying
karst landscape. Sinkholes, known locally as cenotes, are widespread in the northern lowlands.
The Yucatan peninsula usually experienced tropical weather. The Mayans grew corn, farmers
also cultivated beans, squash, and fruit trees. Black beans and red beans contributed protein to
the Maya diet. Numerous varieties of squash and pumpkin were grown. Droughts were one of the
biggest threats to Mayan farms. The Mayans found a way to store water in case of droughts. The
Mayans used a farming technique called slash and burn. Slash and burn meant that you would burn
down forests and the land that was leftover would be your farm. The leftover ash from slash and
burn is very good for plants. People still use slash and burn today, but performing this technique can

  • 2. Essay on Intel s Strategy for the 1990s Case II 13: Intel Corporation В– Strategy for the 1990s Is Intel still a technology leader? How well do the three corporate macro strategies outlined in the case serve to guide Intel through the 1990s? INTEL S STRATEGY Intel s strategy in 1990 is to be the architectural leader in microprocessors, a proprietary, high profit margin business. This implies an emphasis on design skills and the ability to implement design architectures. They also want to continue as the leader in transistor density. This implies the continued importance of process technology skills associated with line width reduction . Intel wants to be a world class manufacturer. This is particularly important because their corporate strategy is to be the sole... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his view, high volume semiconductor manufacturers learn more quickly than low volume producers. Part of this learning capability is due to the close linkages they have with equipment vendors. The implication of Parker s view is that Intel is now a technology follower because of relatively weak linkages with equipment supplier. To improve Intel s technology leadership, they must improve these linkages. Barrett believes that Intel is a technology leader and that manufacturing improvements have accelerated since the exit from the DRAM business. He attributes this to improved engineering techniques, not advances in process equipment. He agrees with Chou that high volume manufacturing is not critical to success. This view is somewhat contradicted by selectively staying in the EPROM business В– a high volume, commodity business. Upon further examination, however, his belief is that EPROMS are not critical because they provide advantages for learning, but because they provide a critical link between Intel and its competitive environment. Staying in a commodity business allows Intel to learn how to lower unit costs and to use this knowledge across all of its products. These three senior managers have different views of Intel s position and the changing nature of the industry. Parker s view suggests that a volume product such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reading the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, many examples of love and trust are being shown during PanemЕ› most violent entertainment games. Panem, is the futuristic United States made up of 12 districts and the Capitol. The Hunger Games are when two tributes, a male and a female between the ages of 12 and 18, are chosen from each district to ВЁplayВЁ in a battle to the death. The last tribute that stands is crowned victor of the games. Katniss and Peeta are the tribute of District 12 since they were picked for the reaping. The idea that Katniss just meets Rue and trusts her not to try and kill her displays how she does not openly trust just anyone in the Games, considering how lonely she was before. During the early civilizations The Nile River Valley and the Indus River Valley Civilization were the two that stuck out the most to me. Both of these civilizations where built near a river or on a river where the water could be used as power. They both have a lot of differences and things in common. In the beginning I m going to explain some important facts about the Indus River Valley Civilization. In 2500 B.C. the Indus River Valley Civilization was formed. The Indus civilization was around for 1000 years, but then disappeared off the planet without a trace. The civilization did not leave behind any types of records. So there was no way for people to study their way of life. Today in present day the civilization is located in Pakistan. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nile people always valued, praised, and showed lots of respect to the pharaoh s family. In the Indus Valley Society lots of diseases and wars were prevented because of the Indus Mountains and the Arabian Sea. The Indus River was a very important source of transportation to the people of that civilization. The Indus River provided rich soil for the farmers, and they were able to harvest crops. Most of the people in the Nile River Civilization were farmers. They also had servants, who served the wealthy and created the pyramids. They had craftsmen, who created tools and progressed the looks of tombs. The Indus Valley Civilization had certain social classes you could be born in, and you had to stay in that social class for the rest of your life. Kshatriyas were soldiers and aristocrats who weren t as highly recognized as Brahmins. Shudras were peasants and servants. Vaishyas were farmers, craftsmen, and merchants also called low class citizens. Brahmins were the Alpha male such as the king and priests. In each village they had a teacher who taught the young children. • 5. The Letter Apology Of The Stolen Generations By Kevin Rudd The 2008 apology to the Stolen Generations by Kevin Rudd is historically significant for a number of reasons (Creative Spirits, 2014). Some felt it provided closure to a painful and traumatic part of Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years after proven to change the circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions (religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). This practice had incredibly adverse affects on families, the children removed as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Link Between The Term Pidgins Essay SOCIOLIANGUISTICS ШЁШіЩ… Ш§Щ„Щ„Щ‡ Ш§Щ„Ш±ШЩ…Щ† Ш§Щ„Ш±ШЩЉЩ… PIDGINS IN SUDIA ARABIA Pidgin could be defined as a language that results from two different people who are not able to speak a each other language so they can interact with and understand each other. This is situation can be a result of different circumstances like war, colonization, slavery and international trade. Some definitions of pidgins although are pidgins have no static definitions : Ferguson (1971) refers to pidgins and creoles as simplified speech used to communicate with people who are considered unable to understand normal speech, such as babies or foreigners. One of the essential points that should be clarified in this context is the link between the term pidgins. This linguistic variety is used in the contact between two speech communities from two different linguistic backgrounds (Al Azraqi 2010; Al Moaily, 2008).Bresnan and Roberts (2008:272) state that pidgins develop as auxiliary languages and thus lack native communities, at least initially . Although the contact is between two languages, the vocabulary of a pidgin comes particularly from one dominant language called the lexifier or superstrate , while the non dominant language is called the substrate (Al Moaily, 2008; Bizri, 2009; Al Azraqi, 2010). Pidgins also do not have a stable grammatical structure and they are usually used specifically among adults for a short period of time (Al Azraqi, 2010). However creoles are classified as more ... When thinking over these questions many people are unknowingly stating a progressive teaching style is preferred. A progressive teaching style includes student participation and technology allowing more people to enjoy learning by setting a custom pace and preferred personal style. Schools have adapted, in general, by now offering lessons to females, because of their greater involvement in the modern work force. When only men were allowed to work many people felt no need in educating women and saw female education as a waste of time. Singer wants to prove how low the education field was measured in terms of jobs, basically not considering teaching a profession. A constant cycle of teachers, in and out of the field, forced the curriculum to be able to be taught universally and with ease through the lecture approach (Singer). A traditional learning environment is a lecture based course where the teacher has full control over the education of our country s future voices which (s)he is bringing up in worldly knowledge. Typically, the semester plan stays on track and a syllabus is completed on time, however it is not as enjoyable of a style for the majority students and therefore not as effective. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of consumer s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private capital goods . This is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the future. Growing Federal Debt can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of crises can occur when debt levels become so large in relation to the economy s output that the government has difficulty selling it. Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the governments ability to repay its debt and refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often leading to inflation, reduction in government services and programs and increased economic hardship on its citizens. There are several good examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and Greece. The US saw a version of this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt and its credit worthiness reduced its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at lower interests rates. The Emancipation Proclamation, as well as legislation such as the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendments, was causing a new awakening of democracy; while the renouncing of secession by the South marked a definite triumph for Nationalism. As well, the government was involved in altercations of its own. During reconstruction, the legislative and executive branches eventually came to blows over the use of power. Johnson became president after Lincoln s death and immediately set the tone for the rest of his dealings with Congress. His plan for reconstruction was much to relaxed for radical Republicans in Congress, and Johnson lacked the diplomatic abilities of Lincoln. Johnson did prescribe loyalty oaths for southern whites if they were to receive pardon and amnesty, he did exclude high confederate officials from that allowance, and he did require a state convention of state leaders loyal to the Union to elect new congressional delegates. Johnson did not, however include some provisions being called for by Congress. His plan recommended, but did not require, the repeal of secession ordinances and repudiation of secession, repudiation of the Confederate debt, and the ratification of the thirteenth amendment. These points absent from the Johnson program were the instigation congress needed to take charge of reconstruction. The first step by Congress, against Johnson, was taken in December 1865. Under Johnson s program, southern representatives had been elected to Congress. A majority of congress voted to refuse accepting the delegates, and appointed a committee to begin work on reconstruction. In 1866, Congress overrode a presidential veto for the ... • 23. Dreams As A Mode Of Freedom The theme of dreams as a mode of freedom, an escape, is commonly seen in the literature of African American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of slavery. While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no way a static matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the sentiments of their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the country and the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and creatively. Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of death to escape slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more hopeful future. While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes s work can mainly be seen as the turning point for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors and figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the time, Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn t be until many years later that the full breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and Martin Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and King Jr. reflects those of Hughes ... During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov s case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. After a while, the neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus. The conditioned stimulus then produces a conditioned response, since the subject of the experiment has associated the conditioned stimulus with the unconditioned response. • 34. The Influence Of Philosophical Thinking During The... The Enlightenment was a wide spread movement in philosophical thinking within Europe throughout the 1700s. Prior to the Enlightenment, the Scientific Revolution in the 15 and 1600s set up the basis of secular and introspective thinking that is characteristic to the enlightenment. During the age of Enlightenment, many philosophers began to question the power and goals of the government as well as the powers and rights of the people. These philosophers came together just as scientific thinkers had come together during the Scientific Revolution in order to discuss and build on each others ideas in the search of perfection. Critical thinking changed during the enlightenment in several ways: first, political thought became less secular and sought to find the actual purpose of a government; next, philosophes attempted to determine what rights were given to governments and to people; and finally, during this time ideas on toleration and the rights of individuals were expanded greatly. In medieval times, most European civilians followed laws based on the church. Their compliance of the law was based on fear of governmental and religious punishments. Throughout the Renaissance, the Scientific Revolution, and the eventual Enlightenment, people s views on government began to become more secular. Many people began to view their leaders as less of a tool to punish them for sin and tried to determine the actual purpose of their government. In his Second Treatise on Government, John ... Thus the plight of the Greeks in their struggle for independence aroused the sympathy of many Europeans, from commoners and government officials to kings and queens. This led to the formation of the London Philhellenic Committee, which helped to finance the war. The great British romantic poet, Lord Byron (1788?1824) was seized by the romance of the Greek cause, imagining a reborn land of Socrates (c. 470?399 BCE) and Plato (c. 428?348 BCE), and set off to Greece to take up arms in the cause of Greek independence. He helped raise money as he made his way south but died of a fever in Greece. Nonetheless, his death made him a martyr of sorts and increased European sympathy for the Greeks. Two years later, the French romantic painter, Eug?ne Delacroix (1798?1863), painted his famous representation of the Ottoman massacre of Greeks at Chios in 1822. Edmund Husserl is the guy to talk to if you want to be confused by what objectivity means. I say confused, because Husserl s path through the end product of the phenomenological reduction leads him to contradictions, which generate revisions of his investigation. Eventually his revisions lead to a happy phenomenological objective ending and will be discussed along with another objectivity viewpoint: The View from Nowhere. Lastly I ll give you my objective/subjective opinion on which objectivity I think is more convincing. Objectivity to Husserl is what he considered the phenomenological reduction. The aim of the initial phenomenological reduction is to individuate correctly the domain of pure consciousness as the domain of meaning constitution (Moran 78). I ll attempt to use logicas an example: the proper objectof logic is to study the relationship between the contents of expressions and what is being expressed; Modus Ponens states that if p then q is accepted, and the antecedent p holds, then the consequent q may be inferred. Logic is only interested in the functional relation between the truthvalue of p and q in the domain where Modus Ponens is applicable. Because logic, in one domain is only interested in the functional relation between p and q, its overall truth value is limited to a one sided truth. According to Dr. Ernest Gross, a Creighton University economics professor, who conducted a study in August 2016, the death penalty cost an average 23.2 million more per year than alternative sentences (Gross). The study found that states with the death penalty spend about 3.54% of overall state budgets on court, corrections and other criminal justice functions associated with the death penalty, while states without the death penalty spend about 2.93% on those functions (Gross). Well there is a story behind the founding of Deer Park Water Company. After the Civil War, the Deer Park Hotel was built in the Appalachian Mountains located in Maryland by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The hotel was created to attract those who took passage on the railroad, but the spring that was located nearby also caught the attention of the travelers. The spring was known for the appeal of a clean source of water, this led the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to start putting the water into bottles in 1873. It was known as the Boiling Spring because the water comes through sand on the way up. A company, known as The Boiling Spring Holding Corporation, purchased the spring and the woods surrounding it in 1966. The Boiling Spring Holding Corporation decided to put the spring to a use and made a profit bottling up the water and selling it mainly throughout the New York area, until production eventually expanded across the nation. Most of the water in the spring is located near the Appalachian Trail. Something interesting about the Deer Park Hotel is that President Taft and his wife had their honeymoon there. Incubation tends to last 4 to 6 years before finally killing the host. This extended lifespan is due to the spine and brain being targeted late in the incubation period (NCBA, 2017).
