Tupac Shakur Essay
Crafting an essay on Tupac Shakur may seem challenging at first glance, as it involves delving
into a complex and multifaceted personality. Tupac, a prominent figure in hip-hop and a cultural
icon, led a life marked by both triumphs and controversies. To capture the essence of his impact
on music, society, and activism requires thorough research and a nuanced understanding of his
lyrics, interviews, and historical context.
Analyzing Tupac's lyrical content demands an acute appreciation for the socio-political climate
during his time, exploring themes of systemic inequality, police brutality, and the struggles of the
African American community. Additionally, one must navigate the intricacies of his personal life,
relationships, and the numerous legal issues that colored his career.
Furthermore, interpreting Tupac's legacy involves discussing the ongoing debates surrounding his
influence on rap music, his role as an advocate for social justice, and the enduring impact of his
words on subsequent generations. Addressing the controversies surrounding his public persona
and the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry adds another layer of complexity to the essay.
Despite the challenges, the opportunity to dissect Tupac Shakur's life and legacy provides a
unique chance to explore the convergence of art, culture, and societal issues. It demands a
delicate balance of objectivity and empathy, requiring the writer to navigate the fine line
between admiration and critical analysis.
In conclusion, writing an essay on Tupac Shakur involves a comprehensive exploration of his
life, music, and societal impact. It requires a deep understanding of the cultural and historical
context in which he lived and created. However, the reward lies in unraveling the layers of this
influential figure and contributing to the ongoing discourse surrounding his legacy.

Problem 10 8: NPVs, IRRs, and MIRRs for Independent Projects
Edelman Engineering is considering including two pieces of equipment, a truck and
an overhead pulley system, in this year s capital budget. The projects are
independent. The cash outlay for the truck is $17,100 and that for the pulley system
is $22,430. The firm s cost of capital is 14%. After tax cash flows, including
depreciation, are as follows: Year| Truck| Pulley| 1| $5,100| $7,500| 2| 5,100| 7,500| 3|

Problem 10 9: NPVs and IRRs for Mutually Exclusive Projects
Davis Industries must choose between a gas powered and an electric powered
forklift truck for moving materials in its factory. Since both forklifts perform the
same function, the firm will choose only one. (They are mutually exclusive
investments.) The electric powered truck will cost more, but it will be less
expensive to operate; it will cost $22,000, whereas the gas powered truck will cost
$17,500. The cost of capital that applies to both investments is 12%. The life for
both types of truck is estimated to be 6 years, during which time the net cash flows
for the electric powered truck will be $6,290 per year and those for the gas
powered truck will be $5,000 per year. Annual net cash flows include depreciation
expenses. Calculate the NPV and IRR for each type of truck, and decide which to
recommend.
PV (electric powered) = $22,000
PV (gas powered) = $17,500
Cost of capital = 12%
Number of years = 6
NCF for electric powered = $6,290
NCF for gas powered = $5,000
Electric powered forklift:
NPV = $22,000 + $6,290 [(1/i) (1/(i*(1+i)n)]
NPV = $22,000 + $6,290 [(1/0.12) (1/(0.12*(1+0.12)6)]
NPV = $22,000 + $6,290(4.1114) = $22,000 + $25,861 = $3,861
IRR =rate (nper,pmt,pv,fv) = rate (6,6290, 22000,0) = 18%
Gas powered forklift:
NPV = $17,500 + $5,000 [(1/i) (1/(i*(1+i)n)]
NPV = $17,500 + $5,000 [(1/0.12) (1/(0.12*(1+0.12)6)]

How Does Sarty Change
Even though young Sarty despises his father s (Abner) crimes, why does he keep
these crimes to himself and not expose his father? Throughout the text of Barn
Burning , Sarty seems to have repetitive feelings of grief and despair, yet he
hesitates to out his father for his crimes. Sarty is hesitant to out his father for his
crimes because he hopes his father will change, he fears his father will harm him
physically or emotionally, and he places a priority on his familys wellbeing before his
own. First, Sarty hesitates to reveal his father s crimes to others because he hopes
that his father may change. Sarty is hoping that his father will change, but without
him having to act against his father. This can be seen when Sarty is astonished by
the gargantuan house of Mr. De Spain. There, Sarty thinks; Maybe he will feel it
too. Maybe it will even change him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be.
(Faulkner, 40) He wants his father to change because he is tired of the life that his
father is making him and his family live. Sarty and his family have moved 12 times
within the past year. Each move, based on the past two moves, is more than likely
based off the fact that Sarty s father has either burned another barn or damaged
someone else s property again. Plus, on top of that, Abner never seems to get his
family out of this pit of despair. It s a never ending cycle. Although Sarty is trying to
convince himself that his father will change without force, his father s
The Inclusiveness Of The Place Dimension
3.4. Discussion (the inclusiveness of the Place dimension):
A tension has always existed in architectural theories between art, social, and rational
notions. The inception of the Bauhaus based mainly on the notion of unifying all the
aspects of art under the wing of architecture. This art driven perspective derived
architectural practice to the creation of the international style. Modernism was
founded on the unity, the whole, and the progress of humanity, as in Marxism. This
was done regardless of the sensibility of social and environmental needs on the local
scale. It lost any continuation with the existing social and constructed values.
Socially and contextually correspondent architecture were the main driving forces
behind the revolute architectural theories that substituted modernism. Art always
persists along architectural movements, either as the main driving force or as a
guaranteed consequent that is achieved in the background, as is the case for the
rational perspective. In the foreground or the background, it comes with different
flavors that is affected with or affects the principles of these theories. This existential
property of art can be deducted by reviewing the aforementioned architectural
theories. The different relations between the art, social, and rational motives would
be comprehended better after discovering more urban dimensions by the end of the
coming chapter.
The aforementioned different types of places exhausted a fair amount of known place
The Miller Analogies Test (Mat) Is Utilized For Graduate
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is utilized for graduate school admissions by
university programs throughout the United States and it is presently regulated by
Pearson. Dr. W. S. Miller of the University of Minnesota created The MAT in 1926.
Throughout the 1920s and 1930s the test was refined and finally administered to all
incoming graduate students at the University of Minnesota in 1940. In 1947, The
Psychological Corporation took over publication of the test to manage how it was
developed and how it is used on a considerable level (Meagher, Ybarra, etc., 2017).
The publisher of the MAT has always followed formal test construction procedures to
ensure that the test forms maintain the same basic item types as the test before it,

Percentile ranks acquired prior to January 2017 were based on the performance of the
normative group, which consisted of participants taking the MAT for the first time
from January 1st, 2008 through December 31st, 2011(Meagher, Ybarra, etc., 2017).
It does not cost anything to administer the test because someone cannot choose to
administer the test individually, the MAT is only administered at certain Controlled
Testing Centers (CTC). Controlled Testing Centers are usually colleges and
universities that are testing students that are trying to get into graduate school. The fee
to take the exam varies from CTC to CTC but it averages to around $75. Other fees
include alternative testing site which is $149, the replacement score report fee is
$25 per report, additional transcript fee $25 per transcript, and the score verification
fee is $35 (Fees and Optional Services, 2017).
The MAT has pronounced availability to take the test. The MAT does not have any
fixed national test dates. Every CTC decides when and how often it administers the
test. Participants plan directly with the CTC on when it is most convenient for them
to take the test. The CTCs are set up so that the colleges and universities can test their
own students. All tests administers are provided with a manual of directions to
guarantee adherence to the standardized administration procedures
Essay about Copper
Copper
Copper is a mineral. it is not a plant or a animal. Copper is a metallic metal. It can
never be broken down into differnet substances by normal chemical means. Copper
was one of the first metals known to humans.
People liked it because in it s native condition, it could easily be beaten into weapons
or tools. Copper has been one of the most useful metals for over
5000 years. Copper was probably used around 8000 B.C by people living along the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers. In 6000 B.C, Egyptians learned how to hammer copper
into things they wanted. Around 3500 B.C, People first learned how to melt copper
with tin to make bronze. So the period between 3000 B.C ... Show more content on

Lamps are also attached to these helmets in case some of the lighting in the mine
goes out leaving a miner stranded in the dark. One of the biggest problems with
mining is that in some places dangerous gas s may exist, like Carbon Monoxide. In
the past we had very cruel and inhuman ways to detect harmful gases. One of these
ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the mine
where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall
over dead at the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases
without having animals die. We now have detection machines in all parts of mines.
Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and water systems. If a flammable gas
ignites, like sulfur, the fire may not die for years, which results in closing the mine.
Another problem miners complain about are the rats. Mines will often have mine cats
that hunt out the rats. These cats are well fed and petted by most of the miners.
Most copper is found in seven ores. That means it s mixed in with other metals like
lead, zinc, gold, cobalt, bismuth, platinum, and nickel. These ores will usually have
only about 4% pure copper in them though.
Sometimes miners may only find 2%. The things that make copper such a popular
metal are malleability which is how easily it bends. Copper is highly
The 360 Research Paper
I will never ride the 360 ever again. I was with my Godmother Jackie and her sister
Desirea. The 360 was a very scary ride for me. It would take you up into the air and
then just stop and sway side to side. It caught my attention because everyone was
saying it was fun and it was a very big ride. I had so much fun before I got on the
ride ,but after I got off it was like my whole body had got turned upside down and
inside out. I was at home bored as usual when I heard my mommas phone ring. She
picked up her phone and answered it. After she got off the phone, she told me to
come downstairs. I went down stairs and she asked me if I wanted to go to the fair
and I said yes ma am. Then, she told me to put on some different clothes because I

Our Lives are Crowded with Products
Nowadays markets are crowded with products of different types and needs.
Companies produce tons of food and clothes, and thousand of cars every day. New
models of products are issuing faster than previous generation of it becomes old. For
example, Apple Corporation issues new iPhones every year despite of the fact that
previous models are still good for use. This huge amount of new products requires a
huge amount of advertising. As a consequence, our everyday life is surrounded with
different kinds of advertising. We see ad on the streets when we walk out our dog,
we see listen it on the radio while driving our cars coming back from a job, we see
it in our favorite magazines and newspapers. A flow of advertising from all sources
of media bombards our attention. Big corporations claim that they know what
product is better for us. They manipulate our feelings; by playing with people desire
of financial success, social power and, the most important, freedom and
independence. This can be seen by analyzing a random advertising from a random
magazine. In this advertisement in TIME magazine, TOYOTA targets young adults,
middle working class professionals, who want fast and powerful car without
spending much money on gas. It appeals to audience s desire by repeating TOYATA
s brand and through direct and indirect messages conveyed by words and images.
TOYOTA Camryad targets men or women in the age range between eighteen and,
probably, middle or late twentieth who wants ride fast,

The Nonlinear Structure of The Sorrow of War and its Distortion of Kien and
Phuong s Relationship to Create Character Depth to Kien Bao Ninh is a
Vietnamese war veteran and the author of what is said to be one of the most
moving war novels of all time (Gareth Smith), The Sorrow of War. In the epic tale,
Bao tells the story of Kien in a nonlinear narrative, weaving in and out of stories of
young loveand war, each failing to complete its own objectives: to come home and
live in peace with those they love. It compares the sorrow of war to the sorrow of
love, both nostalgic as Kien looks back on what has been lost, and the heartbreak
created. Bao compares the two sorrows by intertwining flashbacks and events
occurring in the present.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kien s post war difficulties, particularly with Phuong, can be best described by the
character himself as he ponders the difficulties he s faced in his life since the end
of the war, ...Though now he often drowned himself in alcohol, though hundreds
of times he pleaded with his inner self to calm down, he was constantly torn with
pain recalling the post war times he had with Phuong. His life, after ten destructive
years of war, had been punctured by the sharp thorns of love (84). The idea that
Phuong is the main reason Kien is so depressed after the war is introduced early on
and is mentioned many times in the beginning of the novel. Generally, in the
beginning of a book with a traditional structure, characters are still being introduced
and are receiving information that is vital to the rest of the story. In the beginning
of The Sorrow of War, Kien often reflects on the love he knew had been within him
seemed to have drained away (31). The audience is generally in the traditional
mindset. This gives the audience the false impression that Phuong was never as in
love with him as he was with her, or at all, since she can move on with her life and
watch him struggle to move on with his. This distorts the view of the relationship
because Phuong is being mistaken for a cruel person, begging the question of how
this could possibly be one of the greatest loves of all time. The idea that the person
you love most does not love you back creates a deep empathy
The Most Memorable Year Of High School Baseball
Most Memorable Year of High School Baseball
Some things in life you will never forget. That s how I feel about my freshman
year at Boswell High School. The memories are engraved in my mind as though it
were yesterday. When I was in eighth grade and my brother was a junior, he had led
his team, the Scorpions, to the state tournament for the first time in school history.
They didn t get past the quarterfinals, but I was proud of him. As I watched my
brother walking off the field at Edmond Memorial High School with his head
hanging, I made up my mind right then and there that he would be back the next
year, and I would help him do that. It would be the only year of high school that my
brother and I would get to play together. I would be going into ninth grade, and he
would be a senior. We were both determined to make this year of playing together
one we would never forget. Before we knew it school was starting, and I finally got
to play on the high school team with my brother. It just seemed excitement was in
the air from the first day. The games started and we were playing good, stacking up
the wins. Our first game of the season was at Achille, and I hit a homer while my
brother was on base. It was a great feeling to watch him score on my hit! Before
long, people were saying, you better not sleep on that combo! We had always lived
and breathed baseball. I quickly became the second best pitcher on the team running a
close race behind my brother. If he was pitching, I

Analysis Of The Blushed Nude
Frontline documentary The Persuaders discusses the spiritual transcendence and
emotional bonds brands can form with today s consumers. A vast majority of brands
use emotional branding as a way to attract consumers into purchasing their products.
Emotional branding is an appeal to a consumer s needs, desires and emotional state.
Brands use emotional branding by presenting consumers with advertisements that will
create meaning and identity. Emotional branding is not about what the product is, but
what it means to consumers. Eyeshadow advertisements The Blushed Nude from
Maybelline New York and Colorstay from Revlon present similar products that create
distinct emotional bonds with consumers by presenting images of women with
distinct emotional desires. Desires of love, independence, and strength give rise to
consumers to find an identity and meaning within the advertisements.
Cosmetic brand Maybelline New York has an emotional effect on a variety of
individuals. Their company has not only attracted the attention of women but has
caused women to identify themselves as fierce, daring, and most of all beautiful.
Maybelline s eyeshadow advertisement The Blushed Nude portrays a young women
who is striking, bold and beautiful. Maybelline wants consumers to feel beautiful and
their advertisement provides the image and desires a women seeks in accomplishing

Oppressive Conditions Of The Colonists During The 18th...
To say that the colonists, under British rule, lived in oppressive conditions would
be a great understatement. During the years prior to the signing of the Declaration
of Independents, the people of America were under continuous harassment by the
soldiers of the British military. And for those who opposed the laws of Parliament,
the punishment would often time lead to destroying of properties, crops and
livestock. During the 18th century, Great Britain exerted control over the colonials
by imposing many taxes and added tariffs upon the goods and services of the
people. Among these were hats, molasses, Iron and calendars. The Hat act of 1732
was to prevent the manufacturing and sales of hats. The Iron Act of 1750 was to
export iron goods to Great Britain, while at the same time prohibit the colonists from
using the iron they mined for goods of their own. Other acts included the Molasses
Act of 1733, the Paper Act and the Glass Act. But it was the Townshend Act of 1767

The Nature of Warfare
Throughout history the nature of warfare has remained the same, it is a violent
clash of interests between or among organized groups characterized by the use of
military force, however, the character of war is constantly changing. The means by
which wars are fought are no longer limited to easily identifiable conventional
forces, nor do non traditional actors abide by the same set of international
standards and rules of law. The United States can no longer expect to face a purely
conventional threat. As a result, the U.S. military must be prepared to conduct both
regular and irregular warfare successfully, although irregular warfare is more
challenging and poses a greater threat to U.S. strategic objectives. All conflicts
contain elements of both regular and irregular warfare and the nature of the conflict
can easily shift between them. As a result, the U.S. military must maintain the
ability to be prepared to do both successfully and one must not come at the expense
of the other. The 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance asserts the Wholesale divestment
of the capability to conduct any mission would be unwise, based on historical and
projected uses of U.S. military forces and our inability to predict the future.
Traditional and non traditional warfare are not mutually exclusive and one form of
warfare should not take priority over the other, so it is critical that the U.S. military
balance the capabilities necessary to succeed across a wide spectrum of operations.
The First And Second Industrial Revolutions In France
The first and second industrial revolutions reconstructed the global economy.
Manufacturing shifted from the simple artisan shop to the massive factory. The
idea and practice of the local small business slowly faded, as the concept of
corporation grew. These corporations had a simple goal: make profit, cut
competition, repeat. Manufacturers and other large corporations did anything to
achieve this goal, and strived to do it as cheaply as possible. In order to lower
costs, they often cut workers wages. This was not received well by the employees,
who eventually fought back. Thus, the labor movement was born. France, at first, did
not take to the idea of organized labor. Tension grew between the people and the
government, until a revolution was started. After the 1848 Revolutions in France,
organized labor was legal, and the French government began to embrace the idea. A
friendly relationship between laborers and the government was cast, and it was only
to be fortified when the Third Republic was formed. The United States however, did
not face the same fate when it came to workers rights. Although labor unions were
not explicitly illegal in the United States, they were not welcomed either. Granted
under the rights of the First Amendment, people could freely protest and strike, yet
the government continuously resisted unions. The United States government took
the side of the captains of industry, and remained on this side for over a century.

Abstract:
Background: Signet ring cell adenocarcinoma (SRCC), the histological variant of
ampullary carcinoma, is an extremely uncommon malignancy. To our knowledge, this
report is the first case of SRCC with concurrent non gastrointestinal malignancies.

90% of SRCC take place in the stomach [1]. SRCC is extremely uncommon in the
ampulla of Vater, and only 32 previous cases have been described in the literature [3].
Because of its uncommon entity, the histological genesis of SRCC is still
mysterious. While previous authors suggested that the tumor came from the ectopic
gastric mucosa located at the ampullary region since most of SRCC are found in
stomach [9, 10], others declared that SRCC occurs from the gastric type metaplastic
epithelium [1] which appeared possibly due to the elevated acidity since the
metaplastic changes were are usually observed at the duodenal bulb in peptic ulcer
patients [10]. However, Our case did not support both theories like the other case
because it did not show any gastric mucosa around the tumor nor peptic ulcer found

Similarities Between Christianity And Islam
In today s world, the largest religion is Christianity with a 33 percent and Islam
coming in second place at around 21 percent. According to the article A Common
Word between Us and You Both religions make up around half of the population
around the world. Islam and Christianity are collectively known as Abrahamic
religions because they trace their history to the covenant Godmade with Abraham in
the Hebrew Bible. Christianityand Islam are two of the fastest growing religions, and
they both have a lot in common ideas but yet have major differences in their beliefs
and practices. First of all, both of Christianity and Islam religions have a quiet of bit
in similarities.
One example in which both religious have same ideas is that they both believe in
one God. According to Mojzes and Swidler Christianity and Islam are monotheistic
religions; they believe that there is only one God. Jews and Muslims greatly stress
the oneness and unity of God. The affirmation of the oneness of God by Christians is
sometimes misunderstood, because Christians believe that the one God is triune (the
Holy Trinity). However, this is not a denial of monotheism but an affirmation of the
complexity of the Divine Being. Both faiths believe that this God is the origin and
source of all that exists. God cares about the entire creation and desires the well being
of all. God is just and has provided basic roles for our guidance so that we might be
good and righteous, according to God s

Evaluation Of A Student Outcomes
Part two: Summary of student outcomes
The evaluation of the students work was conducted with the end of year exams in
mind. In particular, I wanted to provide feedback and forward to the students that was
targeted towards their essay writing in the exams at the end of the year. I grouped
results from what grades the students gained against the marking schedule that I
developed. Bearing in mind that the sample size was small, most students attained the

Top 10 Moments Of 2010
Before I commence the blog s annual Top 10 Moments of 2017, I ve decided to do
something different this year. In addition to unilaterally assembling the countdown
list, I will introduce the site s first ever countdown of the five best new game shows
of the year. We ve seen a lot of fun and fresh new shows (Funderdome, Emogenius,
iWitness) and we ve also seen some clunkers that should be left behind when the new

This edition of Fear Factor debuted during the spring this year with rapper/actor
Ludacris taking the helm this time around and a slightly redesigned format catered
toward millennial audiences. In addition to casting younger contestants, the other
major change that was made in this version was tailoring each round in a specific
manner. The first round, Beat The Beast, focuses on conquering fears of insects,
reptiles and other creepy crawlies. The second round, Face Your Fear, purposefully
forces the remaining contestants to face a fear they all have in common. The third
round, The Final Fear, is simply an extreme physical stunt which usually includes
accomplishing a task while being submerged underwater for an extended period of
time, on top of a towering skyscraper or maneuvering across a tractor trailer
ferociously driving on a test track. Not only was Fear Factor renewed during its
first season, the season premiere of the show set an MTV record for the highest

clocking in at 936,000.

Magical Realism and the Sublime in The Circular Ruins
Essay
Magical Realism and the Sublime in The Circular Ruins
Among the many short stories that the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges has
written, The Circular Ruins was published in 1964 in a collection of his works
entitled Labyrinths: Selected Stories Other Writings. Even though The Circular
Ruins may be classified as a Magical Realist text, one may wonder if this short story
could be classified as the Sublime as well. By examining The Circular Ruins, a reader
will be able to see several similarities between Magical Realism and the Sublime.
Of course, the first step in deciding whether or not The Circular Ruins is a type of
the Sublime is to look at some of the characteristics of the Sublime. For instance, ...

Since the main character is said to have come from the South where the Zend tongue
is not contaminated with Greek and where leprosy is infrequent, then his origin
seems to be quite real (Borges 45). Another real element is the setting, which is not in
some other realm but instead at a temple in the jungle. However, the magical element
of the dreams hints to the reader that the main character is not from a normal
background and that the story is probably just in an imaginary jungle. Yet, both the
reader and the characters in the story accept these unreal elements as being real.
Because of the cross between the real and the unreal, Magical Realism, like the
Sublime, causes transcendence.
According to Longinus, another identifying mark of the Sublime is the use of
accumulations, which are also found in The Circular Ruins. For example, before the
magician dreamt his entire son, he first dreamt his son s beating heart. Over a period
of fourteen nights, he carefully examined this heart until he actually touched it with
his finger. After that, he dreamt another organ in the same manner. Eventually, he
even dreamt the eyelids and hair. After finally accumulating all the parts of the boy,
the magician s son was complete and ready to become accustomed to reality (Borges
47 49).
Identical to the Sublime s characteristic of accumulation in The Circular Ruins is
Magical Realism s characteristic of an extensive
Hester s Sin Exposed In The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel...
Puritan laws were extremely rigid and the members of society were expected to
follow a strict moral code. Due to this fact, anything that was believed to go against
this code was considered a sin. Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter looks
into the life of a Puritan family. The mother with the name of Hester committed
adultery with the minister named Dimmesdale and had a girl named Pearl. For their
punishment they both must have a scarlet letter A either sewn into their clothes or
into their body at all time. Hester s real husband does not know the sin Hester
committed until he returns from being held captive by Indians. Hester s real husband
Roger Chillingworth spends 7 years trying to get revenge on Hester and Dimmesdale.
Throughout the novel both Hester and Dimmesdale go through the challenge of
confessing to their sin. The moral consequences they have to face depends on the way
they try to deal with their sins. Hawthorne thinks that hiding your sins overall has a
huge negative effect on the sinner. At the beginning of the novel when Hester s sin is
revealed she becomes an outcast in the community and judged by many. Hawthorne
writes, she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dimmesdale. Hester does all she can to be accepted by the community and eventually
her hard work pays off. At the beginning of the novel she was looked at very
negatively and through the work she did she became accepted by the community.
Dimmesdale on the other hand concealed his sin to himself throughout the novel. His
guilt build up to the point where it made him mentally and morally ill. Finally he
decided to open up with Hester and that revived his energy. Although they may have
committed a sin, the confession of their sins helped the Puritans accept them in the
community and live lives without guilt and
Loose Animal Laws
Dogs remain one of the friendliest and most beloved animals to humans, but despite
their ability to sustain a lovable reputation, dogs do not possess the ability to realize
the ramifications of their actions. Homes built in the rural area are built fenceless,
giving dogs a literal doorway to run loose because the owner chooses not to enclose
their property. Loose dogs must be properly restrained because they cause
neighborhood nuisances, contaminate property, and above all violate animal laws.
Dogs are not born to live in an enclosed house, they deserve to freely run in open
space and relish the taste of freedom. While that fact remains an important part of
making a happier dog, the fact of having consideration and respect for others also
remains crucial. Construction sites for new homes aren t a rare site in developing
neighborhoods. A neighbor s loose dog disrupted some builders at work by playing
around a hazardous construction site behind my house. The incongruous dog

For a dog to be labeled as at large, it must be off the owner s property and
unrestrained, with or without the owner s knowledge. According to Fort Bend

owner of the any dog or cat will be held responsible for the action of the pet.
Moreover, authority has consent to impound any animal at large, and any person
may pick up an animal at large to Animal Control. A dog running unleashed and
causing public nuisances violates two sections of Needville s animal laws, giving
immediate consent for impoundment of the accused dog (Animal Laws). Some pet
owners choose to ignore the laws, or even devalue them because the issue seems
too minor. However, just as people must learn traffic laws when they buy a car and

cost, tax efficient, diversified, liquid, and simple. Many investors often run into
trouble when they invest in things that do not have these five characteristics.
Investments with these five characteristics have been profitable over time, but
typically are not very exciting. There is generally not a hot story that you need to act
on now! associated with them. The financial services industry generally does not
favor these type of investments because they generate very little profit from them. We
are in the business of helping to maximize the wealth of our clients, not the financial

comprehensive. Other factors to look for in investments might include attractive
valuation, low correlation to your other holdings, a nice dividend yield or interest
income, a tilt towards areas of the market that have produced higher returns such as
value stocks, an appropriate risk level for you, etc. Low Cost. We
The Spanish Inquisition Essay
The Spanish Inquisition In the year 1469 there was a union between the Spanish
kingdoms, Aragon and Castile. This union would ignite the darkest moment of
Spanish history, the Spanish Inquisition. Ferdinand of Aragon married Isabella I of
Castile, in hopes of obtaining the Castilian crown. Isabella s high spirited and
politically astute personality enabled her to retain sovereign authority in her own
realm, they became known as the Spanish Kings. At the time, Spainwas a nation state
created out of religious struggle between numerous religions. Both being of Catholic

It is true that in the year 1478, Pope Sixtus IV had given permission to the Spanish
rulers to purify the people of Spain. However, on April 18th 1482, he proposed a
new Papal Bull, and accused the Inquisition in Aragon Catalonia to be one that was
not focused on heresy and salvation of souls, but rather on greed seeking profit. He
noted that true and faithful Christians were being imprisoned, tortured and
condemned as heretics on false testimonies made by enemies, rivals, envious
people etc. An example is in the year 1635 Pedro Ginesta, a man over 80 years of
age of French origin was brought before the tribunal of Barcelona by a comrade for
having supposedly eaten a meal of bacon and onions on a day of abstinence. Of all the
popes that existed during the time of the Inquisition, only Pope Innocent III (who
succeeded Pope Sixtus IV) supported the Spanish Inquisition, all the others attempted
to put an end to the vicious inquisition, with each of them noting how inhumane it
was.
The reliability of the witnesses and the evidence is heavily questioned, not during
the era but now, hundreds of years later. The witnesses are heavily disputed, it has
been recorded by many scholars at the time that the witnesses were often servants of
the accused, or had some type of grudge against
Douglas Mawson Contributions
I believe that Douglas Mawson endured the most adversity while contributing to
science, he suffered in many ways, including losing his friends and his sled dogs, he
also had a lack of food and energy, and lastly he had his soles of his feet were actually
beginning to fall off. The seasoned explorer, Douglas Mawsonhad suffered a lot
through his race; he contributed to science, yet still was able to survive. Henrietta
Lacks had her cells taken for scientific purposes without permission from her family.
Phineas Gagesurvived an extreme dynamite accident which resulted in him having
a hole in his head made by an iron rod. Although you can make a good argument on
who endured the most adversity while contributing to science, Douglas Mawson
did suffer a lot; and there are many ways to support it. Mawson suffered in tons of
ways while he was in the race. The first way he suffered is that he lost his two close
friends and his sled dogs which caused him to grieve, this slowed him down in the
race. In the article it states at 2 a.m. on January 8, Mertz died in his sleep. Mawson
buried his friend, still in the sleeping bag, beneath a mound of snow blocks at atop.
While he was busy grieving, it slowed him down a lot and distracted him from the
race. The second way he suffered is from lack of food. When you do not eat you get
hungry and start to lose energy, this just made him slow down in the race even more.
The third way that he suffered is that the soles of his feet were
Martin Scorse s Taxi Driver
Martin Scorses s Taxi Driver is the distinct cry of mid 1970 s America. American
society was becoming fabricated, alienated, and distrustful. Above all, American
society was throwing away the values of the older days and trying to replace its
anger and discontent with violence and paranoia.
In the film the viewer is painfully close to its main character, Travis Bickle. This is
written in a narration form of a diary he writes in from time to time. Bickle is
consistently portrayed as a lonely but unrecognized veteran of the Vietnam War.
After serving the war, Bickle tries to find some sort of purpose in a new 1970 s
America. However, the protagonist finds himself often alienated from society as
well as disgusted by it. Bickle goes through several phases of crises, which all lead
up to violence. This is majorly due to his experiences as a war veteran and his
inability to conduct himself along with his emotions in a normal manner.
The Vietnam War was the first war to be televised and this was a shock to the
American people. It was able to show the most gritty and realistic side of war,
which was very unlike the glorified visions of victory and valor that films had
portrayed. The veterans of war were promised a homecoming and instead, they were
unwelcomed and homeless. For the rest of the American public, living was becoming
uncontrollable and so was the government. Society s issues such as abandonment and
rotting cities were also touching Hollywood and its filmmakers. Old
Equal Pay Act Equal Work Case Study

result, when deciding and proving the claims, we depend on viewing individual

Differences Between American Culture And Indian Culture
Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined
by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. The
cultures around the world are very different and very much the alike at the same time.
On the other hand, some similarities also lie between two nations. While the cultureof
America is a mixture of different cultures, the Indian culture is unique and has its
own values. There are many types of differences lies between American culture and
Indian culture in terms of Religions, Languages, Rituals and Cuisines. Religious is a
set of common beliefs and practices generally held by a group of people that is
usually separated by rituals and religious laws. There are so many cultures within
each country. Indiais one of the most religiously diverse country in the world with
one of the most deeply religious societies and cultures. Religionplays a central and
definitive role in the life of many of its people. The religions that originated in the
Indian subcontinents are Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and
Christianity. The most of India s population is Hindu which contributes towards
the 70% of the population. Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world. It
was developed about 5000 years ago. Hinduism is a colorful religion with a lot of
rituals. People who follow this religion believe in a lot of Gods and Goddesses.
About 12% of India s population is Islam. This is a religion which was not
The Emancipation Proclamation By President Abraham

January 1, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln changed the face of America by

our country s history the Proclamation can be argued as one of the most
groundbreaking change that shaped how our country operates today. Arthur John
Johnson born to Henry and Tiny Johnson in Galveston, Texas on March 31, 1878
third of nine children; three of which died at birth. Roberts stated not much is known
of Henry s influence on Jack Johnson, but his mother, Tiny, is said to have the most
influence on his early life(Roberts 4). Tiny is credited with having taught Jack to
fight back. Tiny insisted that her son was once the rankest of cowards a boy who
had to be defended in schoolyard scraps by his sister. Many a time, she
remembered, Jack would return home bruised and crying. Finally, Tiny told her
son that if he were beaten again a worse whipping would be waiting for him at
home(Roberts 4). I am convinced that by Jack s mother instilling mentality in him
early it stayed with him for the remainder of his fighting life. The Arthur, Randy
Roberts, did a tremendous job with foreshadowing Johnson s personality by
including Steve Brodie as his childhood hero. Brodie was what people will call an
adrenaline junkie or daredevil, Brodie used his leap off the iconic Brooklyn Bridge
to rise to fame while open other avenues such as acting. One of Roberts strengths are
debunking myths. For instincts: Jack Johnson

Analysis Of The Film Precious
Introduction The motion picture Precious gives us a powerful experience, mainly
because the story line has a thin hopefulness in the dark clouded life of Precious,
Precious is resilient, even though her tragic life influences her personality greatly.
In the film, Precious is a sixteen year old girl who leads a rather lonely life, for she
has no friends and is obese. Her father is a negligent and sick father, who rapes her
from time to time, and has been doing so before she could even learn to crawl
since she was three years old. The film shows Precious in her second pregnancy,
with both of them as results of her father s vicious acts. Her mother is possibly the
worst and unimaginable character. Naturally, mothers are expected to be
supportive of their daughters, but this is not the case with hers. Her mother is a
mean woman, who abuses her in every way possible physically and emotionally
especially. She hits her with steel kitchenware without any provocation. All these
harsh realities make her to adopt an unhealthy lifestyle and habits like eating junk
food and leeching off the welfare they are provided with in their poor conditions.
However, the most adverse effect of the abuse is the psychological effects. Her
mother s articulation of her life is that Precious is worthless and will fail in the
world. Precious lives in the Harlem ghetto of New York City. Precious is an illiterate
sixteen year old who does not know how to read or write. Her mother, Mary, is
One Of Holden’S Main Defense Mechanisms In The
Novel Is
One of Holden s main defense mechanisms in the novel is isolation and same
isolation can derive from his constant depression.. Holden chooses to isolate
himself many times throughout the storyline because of his saddening past. An
article by Debbie Roome acknowledged Depression is another prime cause of
isolation. A depressed teen loses interest in everyday activities and drops out of
social groups at school (Roome). The reader will in fact see this early on in the
book demonstrating Holden flunked out of his school! The quote Where I want to
start telling is the day I left Pencey Prep. Pencey Prep is this school that s in
Agerstown, Pennsylvania (Salinger 2) is an example of where Holden flunked out of
his school, he in fact failed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Holden can be seen isolating himself when he distances himself from
the rest of the school at a football game, the quote I remember around three o clock
that afternoon I was standing way the hell up on top of Thomsen Hill, right next to
this crazy cannon that was in the Revolutionary War and all (Salinger 2). The
depression which is causing him to isolate himself is very evident throughout the
novel because of the main ideals circling around these two defense mechanisms. The
depression may also derive from the relationship with Holden and his mother. Freud
would argue that Holden s lack of any meaningful attachment to his mother leaves
him feeling inadequate and depressed thus making Holden isolate himself. In an
article by Neil Farber M.D the main idea was on mother and child relationships and
how it affects the child s development and psychoanalysis. Farber acknowledges that
parent child relationships influences child and family functioning as well as and has
the used longitudinal studies to look at the association between parenting styles and
children s emotions and behaviors that may contribute to early mental health issues
in children (Farber ). And this can be one direct reason on why Holden behaves the
way he does because when Holden s family went through the loss of a son/ brother
the mother began to not focus as much on Holden thus driving Holden into a
depressed state of mind and those furthermore caused the isolationism.
Network Security And The Internet
As time goes by, network security has become substantially more important, whether
it be for a business, the military, or even a private computer. With the introduction of
the internet, security became a major concern and it s only though a brief look recap
on the history of security that we are allowed a better understanding of the emergence
of the new technology that is released for the private and public sector. As mentioned
earlier, the creation of the Internetallowed for a plethora of new threats. Despite the
constant threats of malware and other annoyances, the architecture of the internet,
when modified can reduce the possible attacks that can be sent across the network.
Knowing the attack methods, allows for the appropriate security to emerge. Many
businesses secure themselves from the internet by means of firewalls and encryption
mechanisms. The businesses create an intranet to remain connected to the internet
but secured from possible threats. Several key events contributed to the birth and
evolution of computer and network security. Back during the first World War, the
Allied army was having trouble deciphering secret German messages, while their
own became heavily compromised. However, Polish cryptographers created an
enigma machine in 1918 that converted plain messages to encrypted text. In 1930,
Alan Turing, a mathematician, broke the code for the Enigma. Securing
communications was essential in World War II. In the 1960s, the term hacker is

Setting as Catalyst for Passion in The Storm
The setting for The Storm by Kate Chopin begins with a thunderstorm. The first
characters that the author mentions are Bobinot and his son Bibi. They buy a can of
shrimps for Calixta but are prevented from getting them to her by the storm (Chopin,
96). The author changes the setting and tells about Calixta at home. A man named
Alcee arrives at her house that she has not seen in a long time. The violence of the
storm forces Alcee and Calixta into the house and then into passion that ends at the
same time as the storm. Chopin uses setting as a catalyst to this action, a parallel to
the passion between the characters, and as a key to the theme of the story.

They are trapped together in the world of the storm and cannot leave. Lightning
strikes the tree and makes Calixta fall backward into Alcee s arms (97). The setting
in The Storm forces Alcee and Calixta together and into each other s arms.
The storm serves as a parallel to the passion between Alcee and Calixta. The storm
is unavoidable and so is the passion because of it. When the storm forces them into
each other s arms, the familiarity with their previous lives takes over and they begin
having an affair (97). The storm ending at the same time as the passion, implies that
they are parallel with each other. Just as the storm is a passing event that changes
nature for a short time, so the affair is passing and changes the emotions of Alcee
and Calixta. A storm leaves the world peaceful, bright and clean. The author portrays
the affair as leaving their family relationships peaceful and full of new joy. With the
last line of the story, So the storm passed and everyone was happy, (99) Chopin
compares the storm s outcome with that of the affair.
The storm is key to the story because it is the all powerful force of nature that drives
the two lovers together, which would be almost impossible without the storm.
Because the storm occurs when Alcee is riding by Calixta s house, it forces him to
go there. He must take refuge inside her house when the rain starts to drench him
(96). By portraying the storm as
The Tragedy Of Hurricane Katrina
Abstract
As Hurricane Katrina approached New Orleans, federal and local officials
underestimated the severity of the storm. Once the storm hit, they believed that it
was not horrible and that it would be easy to recover from the storm. They were
not expecting the levee system to fail and that 80% of the city would be under
water hours after the storm passed. Once the levees failed, it took days before
residents of New Orleans to get the help that they needed and many people lost their
lives waiting for help. Since many New Orleans police officers lived in the city, they
were the first to respond to the crisis. Due to the lack of electricity, it was hard for
officials to communicate with each other, making crisis response difficult. People
reported acts of violence without actually having proof. The media publicized the
inaccurate information without getting evidence.
Keywords: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans Police Department, media, violence,
communication INTRODUCTION
As Hurricane Katrina approached New Orleans in late October 2005, federal and
local officials as well as residents of the city underestimated the power of the storm.
Since the storm was misjudged, a concrete plan was not established in case of an
emergency (Morris, Morris Jones, 2007). As the tropical storm traveled across the
Atlantic Ocean towards the United States, it went from category five, extremely
destructive, to category three and gathered enough wind to migrate towards New
Orleans, Louisiana on
Conformity And Exclusion In Los Cachorros
Many of Mario Vargas Llosa s younger literary publications were laced with Marxist
critiques of a transitioning Latin American society in the 20th century, and though on
the surface, Los Cachorros may seem little more than a fictional coming of age
narrative, the allegorical short story is no exception. Told through an encyclopaedic
tour of Lima s urban spaces, a pack of boys transition into young men and their
interactions with the city reflect both the rigidity and fragmentation of the Peruvian
community as a whole. With particular reference to chapter five, this essay will
explore the cities implicit influence on the characters fulfilment of heteronomous
social identities, and Vargas Llosa a use of specific literary devices to... Show more

Continuing in the theme of conformity; if the boys are united by their heteronomy,
Cuellar s castration, in contrast, is the source of his ostracism. His unfortunate
accident is a wound that time opens instead of closes , and as the story progresses,
Vargas Llosa juxtaposes the boys socially inclusive youthful pastimes of football and
studying mentioned earlier in the novel with his comparatively solitary penchant for
the ocean and surfing a puro pecho o con colchГіn (94) in chapter five. In this
passage, his distance from the others is symbolised by the isolation of the sea; the
narrator says the water se lo tragГі (95) and later, the boys state that se perdiГі (96).
Clearly, Cuellar s failure to partake in the testosterone fuelled rituals of sexual
maturity in the city has seen him shunned from the rest of the boys and resigned to
hanging out with rosquetes, cafichos y pichicateros (96) instead the modern,
metropolitan outcasts. Evidently, Cuellar is incapacitated by this highly
heteronormative lifestyle, as the inherent masculinity of the city is a fixed identity
that will perpetually exclude him, or anyone else who cannot fulfil Peruvian societies
idea of gender appropriate behaviour. Interestingly however, this notion of appropriate
behaviour is recurrently brought to question throughout the story of Los Cachorros,
as through the maturity of the story, the boys venture further astray from their safe
haven Miraflores
My Cultural Root Of My Resilience
Islam, stands as the spiritual root of my resilience. Whatever the almighty does has
a perfect meaning and he and only Him knows what he is doing. Concerning my
emotion, they have failed to provide me a deep root, I simply can not use emotion
to actually build up my resilience, however, playing on my psychological root can
support both psychological and emotional roots. Today, I can say that I am an
optimistic person. I trained my brain to actually pursue a goal whatever difficulty it
encounters, and today it works. My cultural root are based on the idea that a man is
only successful outside the household. Having this idea in mind, I have to be always
excellence and successful, even in difficult moment. I have to find positivity and if
not, I have to create way to build this positivity.
b.
In my culture, people are mainly focused on an idea based on gender. My culture
would generally tell me that I am a Man, I should not cry, I should still raise up and
fight for what I want. However, during the past two years, I have been exposed to
the idea of failing forward . This expression is based on the idea that even if I fall
most of the time, I should keep on going and keep on going. I have been taught that
overcoming situation or building resilience is a process that needs time. First, I have
to identify the situation, I have to then understand it, and then try to find a solution to
it. In this way, I tried for a long time to apply the past methods. Months after months,

Postpartum Depression And Pregnancy
Pregnancy is usually thought of as a taxing, yet rewarding and joyful time for an
expectant mother. It takes a toll on not only a mother s body, but also on her
emotional well being. A lack of appetite, energy, and strength are not uncommon
among healthy mothers, and will not call for immediate attention from a physician.
Although the psychological and physiological changes a woman goes through while
pregnant can present themselves as depression like symptoms, more often, they are
the result of carrying a developing child. Despite the commonality of these symptoms
it is important not to overlook these symptoms should they progress. Antenatal
depression (depression that occurs while pregnant) and postpartum depression

Some researchers have attributed this imbalance of hormones to a dramatic increase
in depressive behavior (Bloch et al. 2003 and Brummelte and Galea, 2010). These
fluctuations in hormones do not only affect the mother, but the child as well. The
spikes in hormone production can essentially, bathe an unborn child in heightened
levels of cortisol and norepinephrine (Murray et al. 2013). The ramifications of these
hormone baths are numerous. In one study, the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents
and Children (ALSPAC) in the UK, asked whether untreated prenatal maternal
depression might predict poor prenatal nutrition and whether this was associated with
postnatal child cognitive function. The results of this study supported the hypothesis
that severe depressive symptoms during pregnancy correlated with lower levels of
healthy nutrition and elevated levels of unhealthy nutrition, which in turn were
prospectively related to a reduction in children s cognitive functioning at 4 years of
age (Gentile S. 2015). There was also evidence to support that at 7 and 8 years of
age, children of depressed mothers might also be at risk of suffering from emotional
and behavior problems, specifically children whose mothers were affected by chronic
depression (Gentile S. 2015). The increases in unhealthy levels of nutrition have also
been shown to have a correlation to poorer growth in infants (Gentile S. 2015).
According to S. Gentile, children whose mothers experienced antenatal depression
had a greater central adiposity, but weighed less for a given height. The lack of
muscle, in relation to the concentration to adipose tissue, can stunt the growth, motor
development, and coordination of a growing child. Without proper nutritional support
and therapy, children whose mothers experienced antenatal or postpartum depression,
are at risk for developmental and cognitive setbacks in their early

Problem 10 9: NPVs and IRRs for Mutually Exclusive Projects Davis Industries must choose between a gas powered and an electric powered forklift truck for moving materials in its factory. Since both forklifts perform the same function, the firm will choose only one. (They are mutually exclusive investments.) The electric powered truck will cost more, but it will be less expensive to operate; it will cost $22,000, whereas the gas powered truck will cost $17,500. The cost of capital that applies to both investments is 12%. The life for both types of truck is estimated to be 6 years, during which time the net cash flows for the electric powered truck will be $6,290 per year and those for the gas powered truck will be $5,000 per year. Annual net cash flows include depreciation expenses. Calculate the NPV and IRR for each type of truck, and decide which to recommend. • 3. How Does Sarty Change Even though young Sarty despises his father s (Abner) crimes, why does he keep these crimes to himself and not expose his father? Throughout the text of Barn Burning , Sarty seems to have repetitive feelings of grief and despair, yet he hesitates to out his father for his crimes. Sarty is hesitant to out his father for his crimes because he hopes his father will change, he fears his father will harm him physically or emotionally, and he places a priority on his familys wellbeing before his own. First, Sarty hesitates to reveal his father s crimes to others because he hopes that his father may change. Sarty is hoping that his father will change, but without him having to act against his father. This can be seen when Sarty is astonished by the gargantuan house of Mr. De Spain. There, Sarty thinks; Maybe he will feel it too. Maybe it will even change him now from what maybe he couldn t help but be. (Faulkner, 40) He wants his father to change because he is tired of the life that his father is making him and his family live. Sarty and his family have moved 12 times within the past year. Each move, based on the past two moves, is more than likely based off the fact that Sarty s father has either burned another barn or damaged someone else s property again. Plus, on top of that, Abner never seems to get his family out of this pit of despair. It s a never ending cycle. Although Sarty is trying to convince himself that his father will change without force, his father s
  • 4. The Inclusiveness Of The Place Dimension 3.4. Discussion (the inclusiveness of the Place dimension): A tension has always existed in architectural theories between art, social, and rational notions. The inception of the Bauhaus based mainly on the notion of unifying all the aspects of art under the wing of architecture. This art driven perspective derived architectural practice to the creation of the international style. Modernism was founded on the unity, the whole, and the progress of humanity, as in Marxism. This was done regardless of the sensibility of social and environmental needs on the local scale. It lost any continuation with the existing social and constructed values. Socially and contextually correspondent architecture were the main driving forces behind the revolute architectural theories that substituted modernism. Art always persists along architectural movements, either as the main driving force or as a guaranteed consequent that is achieved in the background, as is the case for the rational perspective. In the foreground or the background, it comes with different flavors that is affected with or affects the principles of these theories. This existential property of art can be deducted by reviewing the aforementioned architectural theories. The different relations between the art, social, and rational motives would be comprehended better after discovering more urban dimensions by the end of the coming chapter. The aforementioned different types of places exhausted a fair amount of known place

The Miller Analogies Test (Mat) Is Utilized For Graduate The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is utilized for graduate school admissions by university programs throughout the United States and it is presently regulated by Pearson. Dr. W. S. Miller of the University of Minnesota created The MAT in 1926. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s the test was refined and finally administered to all incoming graduate students at the University of Minnesota in 1940. In 1947, The Psychological Corporation took over publication of the test to manage how it was developed and how it is used on a considerable level (Meagher, Ybarra, etc., 2017). It does not cost anything to administer the test because someone cannot choose to administer the test individually, the MAT is only administered at certain Controlled Testing Centers (CTC). Controlled Testing Centers are usually colleges and universities that are testing students that are trying to get into graduate school. The fee to take the exam varies from CTC to CTC but it averages to around $75. Other fees include alternative testing site which is $149, the replacement score report fee is $25 per report, additional transcript fee $25 per transcript, and the score verification fee is $35 (Fees and Optional Services, 2017). The MAT has pronounced availability to take the test. The MAT does not have any fixed national test dates. Every CTC decides when and how often it administers the test. Participants plan directly with the CTC on when it is most convenient for them to take the test. The CTCs are set up so that the colleges and universities can test their own students. All tests administers are provided with a manual of directions to guarantee adherence to the standardized administration procedures
  • 6. Essay about Copper Copper Copper is a mineral. it is not a plant or a animal. Copper is a metallic metal. It can never be broken down into differnet substances by normal chemical means. Copper was one of the first metals known to humans. People liked it because in it s native condition, it could easily be beaten into weapons or tools. Copper has been one of the most useful metals for over 5000 years. Copper was probably used around 8000 B.C by people living along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. In 6000 B.C, Egyptians learned how to hammer copper into things they wanted. Around 3500 B.C, People first learned how to melt copper with tin to make bronze. So the period between 3000 B.C ... One of the biggest problems with mining is that in some places dangerous gas s may exist, like Carbon Monoxide. In the past we had very cruel and inhuman ways to detect harmful gases. One of these ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the mine where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall over dead at the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases without having animals die. We now have detection machines in all parts of mines. Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and water systems. If a flammable gas ignites, like sulfur, the fire may not die for years, which results in closing the mine. Another problem miners complain about are the rats. Mines will often have mine cats that hunt out the rats. These cats are well fed and petted by most of the miners. Most copper is found in seven ores. That means it s mixed in with other metals like lead, zinc, gold, cobalt, bismuth, platinum, and nickel. These ores will usually have only about 4% pure copper in them though. Sometimes miners may only find 2%. The things that make copper such a popular metal are malleability which is how easily it bends. Copper is highly

New models of products are issuing faster than previous generation of it becomes old. For example, Apple Corporation issues new iPhones every year despite of the fact that previous models are still good for use. This huge amount of new products requires a huge amount of advertising. As a consequence, our everyday life is surrounded with different kinds of advertising. We see ad on the streets when we walk out our dog, we see listen it on the radio while driving our cars coming back from a job, we see it in our favorite magazines and newspapers. A flow of advertising from all sources of media bombards our attention. Big corporations claim that they know what product is better for us. They manipulate our feelings; by playing with people desire of financial success, social power and, the most important, freedom and independence. This can be seen by analyzing a random advertising from a random magazine. In this advertisement in TIME magazine, TOYOTA targets young adults, middle working class professionals, who want fast and powerful car without spending much money on gas. It appeals to audience s desire by repeating TOYATA s brand and through direct and indirect messages conveyed by words and images. The Nonlinear Structure of The Sorrow of War and its Distortion of Kien and Phuong s Relationship to Create Character Depth to Kien Bao Ninh is a Vietnamese war veteran and the author of what is said to be one of the most moving war novels of all time (Gareth Smith), The Sorrow of War. In the epic tale, Bao tells the story of Kien in a nonlinear narrative, weaving in and out of stories of young loveand war, each failing to complete its own objectives: to come home and live in peace with those they love. It compares the sorrow of war to the sorrow of love, both nostalgic as Kien looks back on what has been lost, and the heartbreak created. Bao compares the two sorrows by intertwining flashbacks and events occurring in the present.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kien s post war difficulties, particularly with Phuong, can be best described by the character himself as he ponders the difficulties he s faced in his life since the end of the war, ...Though now he often drowned himself in alcohol, though hundreds of times he pleaded with his inner self to calm down, he was constantly torn with pain recalling the post war times he had with Phuong. His life, after ten destructive years of war, had been punctured by the sharp thorns of love (84). The idea that Phuong is the main reason Kien is so depressed after the war is introduced early on and is mentioned many times in the beginning of the novel. Generally, in the beginning of a book with a traditional structure, characters are still being introduced and are receiving information that is vital to the rest of the story. In the beginning of The Sorrow of War, Kien often reflects on the love he knew had been within him seemed to have drained away (31). The audience is generally in the traditional mindset. This gives the audience the false impression that Phuong was never as in love with him as he was with her, or at all, since she can move on with her life and watch him struggle to move on with his. This distorts the view of the relationship because Phuong is being mistaken for a cruel person, begging the question of how this could possibly be one of the greatest loves of all time. The idea that the person you love most does not love you back creates a deep empathy
  • 11. The Most Memorable Year Of High School Baseball Most Memorable Year of High School Baseball Some things in life you will never forget. That s how I feel about my freshman year at Boswell High School. The memories are engraved in my mind as though it were yesterday. When I was in eighth grade and my brother was a junior, he had led his team, the Scorpions, to the state tournament for the first time in school history. They didn t get past the quarterfinals, but I was proud of him. As I watched my brother walking off the field at Edmond Memorial High School with his head hanging, I made up my mind right then and there that he would be back the next year, and I would help him do that. It would be the only year of high school that my brother and I would get to play together. I would be going into ninth grade, and he would be a senior. We were both determined to make this year of playing together one we would never forget. Before we knew it school was starting, and I finally got to play on the high school team with my brother. It just seemed excitement was in the air from the first day. The games started and we were playing good, stacking up the wins. Our first game of the season was at Achille, and I hit a homer while my brother was on base. It was a great feeling to watch him score on my hit! Before long, people were saying, you better not sleep on that combo! We had always lived and breathed baseball. I quickly became the second best pitcher on the team running a close race behind my brother. If he was pitching, I

  • 14. Oppressive Conditions Of The Colonists During The 18th... To say that the colonists, under British rule, lived in oppressive conditions would be a great understatement. During the years prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independents, the people of America were under continuous harassment by the soldiers of the British military. And for those who opposed the laws of Parliament, the punishment would often time lead to destroying of properties, crops and livestock. During the 18th century, Great Britain exerted control over the colonials by imposing many taxes and added tariffs upon the goods and services of the people. Among these were hats, molasses, Iron and calendars. The Hat act of 1732 was to prevent the manufacturing and sales of hats. The Iron Act of 1750 was to export iron goods to Great Britain, while at the same time prohibit the colonists from using the iron they mined for goods of their own. • 16. The Nature of Warfare Throughout history the nature of warfare has remained the same, it is a violent clash of interests between or among organized groups characterized by the use of military force, however, the character of war is constantly changing. The means by which wars are fought are no longer limited to easily identifiable conventional forces, nor do non traditional actors abide by the same set of international standards and rules of law. The United States can no longer expect to face a purely conventional threat. As a result, the U.S. military must be prepared to conduct both regular and irregular warfare successfully, although irregular warfare is more challenging and poses a greater threat to U.S. strategic objectives. All conflicts contain elements of both regular and irregular warfare and the nature of the conflict can easily shift between them. As a result, the U.S. military must maintain the ability to be prepared to do both successfully and one must not come at the expense of the other. The 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance asserts the Wholesale divestment of the capability to conduct any mission would be unwise, based on historical and projected uses of U.S. military forces and our inability to predict the future. Traditional and non traditional warfare are not mutually exclusive and one form of warfare should not take priority over the other, so it is critical that the U.S. military balance the capabilities necessary to succeed across a wide spectrum of operations.
  • 17. The First And Second Industrial Revolutions In France The first and second industrial revolutions reconstructed the global economy. Manufacturing shifted from the simple artisan shop to the massive factory. The idea and practice of the local small business slowly faded, as the concept of corporation grew. These corporations had a simple goal: make profit, cut competition, repeat. Manufacturers and other large corporations did anything to achieve this goal, and strived to do it as cheaply as possible. In order to lower costs, they often cut workers wages. This was not received well by the employees, who eventually fought back. Thus, the labor movement was born. France, at first, did not take to the idea of organized labor. Tension grew between the people and the government, until a revolution was started. After the 1848 Revolutions in France, organized labor was legal, and the French government began to embrace the idea. A friendly relationship between laborers and the government was cast, and it was only to be fortified when the Third Republic was formed. The United States however, did not face the same fate when it came to workers rights. Although labor unions were not explicitly illegal in the United States, they were not welcomed either. Granted under the rights of the First Amendment, people could freely protest and strike, yet the government continuously resisted unions. The United States government took the side of the captains of industry, and remained on this side for over a century. While France experienced the

While previous authors suggested that the tumor came from the ectopic gastric mucosa located at the ampullary region since most of SRCC are found in stomach [9, 10], others declared that SRCC occurs from the gastric type metaplastic epithelium [1] which appeared possibly due to the elevated acidity since the metaplastic changes were are usually observed at the duodenal bulb in peptic ulcer patients [10]. However, Our case did not support both theories like the other case because it did not show any gastric mucosa around the tumor nor peptic ulcer found in EGD

According to the article A Common Word between Us and You Both religions make up around half of the population around the world. Islam and Christianity are collectively known as Abrahamic religions because they trace their history to the covenant Godmade with Abraham in the Hebrew Bible. Christianityand Islam are two of the fastest growing religions, and they both have a lot in common ideas but yet have major differences in their beliefs and practices. First of all, both of Christianity and Islam religions have a quiet of bit in similarities. One example in which both religious have same ideas is that they both believe in one God. According to Mojzes and Swidler Christianity and Islam are monotheistic religions; they believe that there is only one God. Jews and Muslims greatly stress the oneness and unity of God. The affirmation of the oneness of God by Christians is sometimes misunderstood, because Christians believe that the one God is triune (the Holy Trinity). However, this is not a denial of monotheism but an affirmation of the complexity of the Divine Being. Both faiths believe that this God is the origin and source of all that exists. God cares about the entire creation and desires the well being of all. God is just and has provided basic roles for our guidance so that we might be good and righteous, according to God s

In particular, I wanted to provide feedback and forward to the students that was targeted towards their essay writing in the exams at the end of the year. I grouped results from what grades the students gained against the marking schedule that I developed. Bearing in mind that the sample size was small, most students attained the merit grade, with the same amount of students being either side of the merit grade with three respectively. This indicates that the workthat is being achieved is at an above average level, highlighted by no one failing the assessment. The evidence also suggests that the students are on the way to excellence. With the feed forward being provided there should be a number of those students who should be attaining excellences in that class at the end of year mock exams. In terms of the specific feedback forward itself. There were common trends that came through for each grade. The first round, Beat The Beast, focuses on conquering fears of insects, reptiles and other creepy crawlies. The second round, Face Your Fear, purposefully forces the remaining contestants to face a fear they all have in common. The third round, The Final Fear, is simply an extreme physical stunt which usually includes accomplishing a task while being submerged underwater for an extended period of time, on top of a towering skyscraper or maneuvering across a tractor trailer ferociously driving on a test track. Magical Realism and the Sublime in The Circular Ruins Essay Magical Realism and the Sublime in The Circular Ruins Among the many short stories that the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges has written, The Circular Ruins was published in 1964 in a collection of his works entitled Labyrinths: Selected Stories Other Writings. Even though The Circular Ruins may be classified as a Magical Realist text, one may wonder if this short story could be classified as the Sublime as well. By examining The Circular Ruins, a reader will be able to see several similarities between Magical Realism and the Sublime. Of course, the first step in deciding whether or not The Circular Ruins is a type of the Sublime is to look at some of the characteristics of the Sublime. For instance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the main character is said to have come from the South where the Zend tongue is not contaminated with Greek and where leprosy is infrequent, then his origin seems to be quite real (Borges 45). Another real element is the setting, which is not in some other realm but instead at a temple in the jungle. However, the magical element of the dreams hints to the reader that the main character is not from a normal background and that the story is probably just in an imaginary jungle. Yet, both the reader and the characters in the story accept these unreal elements as being real. Because of the cross between the real and the unreal, Magical Realism, like the Sublime, causes transcendence. According to Longinus, another identifying mark of the Sublime is the use of accumulations, which are also found in The Circular Ruins. For example, before the magician dreamt his entire son, he first dreamt his son s beating heart. Over a period of fourteen nights, he carefully examined this heart until he actually touched it with his finger. After that, he dreamt another organ in the same manner. Eventually, he even dreamt the eyelids and hair. After finally accumulating all the parts of the boy, the magician s son was complete and ready to become accustomed to reality (Borges 47 49). Identical to the Sublime s characteristic of accumulation in The Circular Ruins is Magical Realism s characteristic of an extensive
  • 24. Hester s Sin Exposed In The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel... Puritan laws were extremely rigid and the members of society were expected to follow a strict moral code. Due to this fact, anything that was believed to go against this code was considered a sin. Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter looks into the life of a Puritan family. The mother with the name of Hester committed adultery with the minister named Dimmesdale and had a girl named Pearl. For their punishment they both must have a scarlet letter A either sewn into their clothes or into their body at all time. Hester s real husband does not know the sin Hester committed until he returns from being held captive by Indians. Hester s real husband Roger Chillingworth spends 7 years trying to get revenge on Hester and Dimmesdale. Throughout the novel both Hester and Dimmesdale go through the challenge of confessing to their sin. The moral consequences they have to face depends on the way they try to deal with their sins. Homes built in the rural area are built fenceless, giving dogs a literal doorway to run loose because the owner chooses not to enclose their property. Loose dogs must be properly restrained because they cause neighborhood nuisances, contaminate property, and above all violate animal laws. Dogs are not born to live in an enclosed house, they deserve to freely run in open space and relish the taste of freedom. While that fact remains an important part of making a happier dog, the fact of having consideration and respect for others also remains crucial. However, on April 18th 1482, he proposed a new Papal Bull, and accused the Inquisition in Aragon Catalonia to be one that was not focused on heresy and salvation of souls, but rather on greed seeking profit. He noted that true and faithful Christians were being imprisoned, tortured and condemned as heretics on false testimonies made by enemies, rivals, envious people etc. An example is in the year 1635 Pedro Ginesta, a man over 80 years of age of French origin was brought before the tribunal of Barcelona by a comrade for having supposedly eaten a meal of bacon and onions on a day of abstinence. Of all the popes that existed during the time of the Inquisition, only Pope Innocent III (who succeeded Pope Sixtus IV) supported the Spanish Inquisition, all the others attempted to put an end to the vicious inquisition, with each of them noting how inhumane it was. The seasoned explorer, Douglas Mawsonhad suffered a lot through his race; he contributed to science, yet still was able to survive. Henrietta Lacks had her cells taken for scientific purposes without permission from her family. Phineas Gagesurvived an extreme dynamite accident which resulted in him having a hole in his head made by an iron rod. Although you can make a good argument on who endured the most adversity while contributing to science, Douglas Mawson did suffer a lot; and there are many ways to support it. The first way he suffered is that he lost his two close friends and his sled dogs which caused him to grieve, this slowed him down in the race. Above all, American society was throwing away the values of the older days and trying to replace its anger and discontent with violence and paranoia. In the film the viewer is painfully close to its main character, Travis Bickle. This is written in a narration form of a diary he writes in from time to time. Bickle is consistently portrayed as a lonely but unrecognized veteran of the Vietnam War. After serving the war, Bickle tries to find some sort of purpose in a new 1970 s America. However, the protagonist finds himself often alienated from society as well as disgusted by it. Bickle goes through several phases of crises, which all lead up to violence. This is majorly due to his experiences as a war veteran and his inability to conduct himself along with his emotions in a normal manner. The Vietnam War was the first war to be televised and this was a shock to the American people. It was able to show the most gritty and realistic side of war, which was very unlike the glorified visions of victory and valor that films had portrayed. The veterans of war were promised a homecoming and instead, they were unwelcomed and homeless. For the rest of the American public, living was becoming uncontrollable and so was the government. Society s issues such as abandonment and rotting cities were also touching Hollywood and its filmmakers. Old

Arthur John Johnson born to Henry and Tiny Johnson in Galveston, Texas on March 31, 1878 third of nine children; three of which died at birth. Roberts stated not much is known of Henry s influence on Jack Johnson, but his mother, Tiny, is said to have the most influence on his early life(Roberts 4). Tiny is credited with having taught Jack to fight back. Tiny insisted that her son was once the rankest of cowards a boy who had to be defended in schoolyard scraps by his sister. Many a time, she remembered, Jack would return home bruised and crying. Finally, Tiny told her son that if he were beaten again a worse whipping would be waiting for him at home(Roberts 4). I am convinced that by Jack s mother instilling mentality in him early it stayed with him for the remainder of his fighting life. The Arthur, Randy Roberts, did a tremendous job with foreshadowing Johnson s personality by including Steve Brodie as his childhood hero. Brodie was what people will call an adrenaline junkie or daredevil, Brodie used his leap off the iconic Brooklyn Bridge to rise to fame while open other avenues such as acting. In the film, Precious is a sixteen year old girl who leads a rather lonely life, for she has no friends and is obese. Her father is a negligent and sick father, who rapes her from time to time, and has been doing so before she could even learn to crawl since she was three years old. The film shows Precious in her second pregnancy, with both of them as results of her father s vicious acts. Her mother is possibly the worst and unimaginable character. Naturally, mothers are expected to be supportive of their daughters, but this is not the case with hers. Her mother is a mean woman, who abuses her in every way possible physically and emotionally especially. She hits her with steel kitchenware without any provocation. All these harsh realities make her to adopt an unhealthy lifestyle and habits like eating junk food and leeching off the welfare they are provided with in their poor conditions. However, the most adverse effect of the abuse is the psychological effects. Her mother s articulation of her life is that Precious is worthless and will fail in the world. Holden chooses to isolate himself many times throughout the storyline because of his saddening past. An article by Debbie Roome acknowledged Depression is another prime cause of isolation. A depressed teen loses interest in everyday activities and drops out of social groups at school (Roome). The reader will in fact see this early on in the book demonstrating Holden flunked out of his school! The quote Where I want to start telling is the day I left Pencey Prep. Pencey Prep is this school that s in Agerstown, Pennsylvania (Salinger 2) is an example of where Holden flunked out of his school, he in fact failed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Holden can be seen isolating himself when he distances himself from the rest of the school at a football game, the quote I remember around three o clock that afternoon I was standing way the hell up on top of Thomsen Hill, right next to this crazy cannon that was in the Revolutionary War and all (Salinger 2). The depression which is causing him to isolate himself is very evident throughout the novel because of the main ideals circling around these two defense mechanisms. The depression may also derive from the relationship with Holden and his mother. Freud would argue that Holden s lack of any meaningful attachment to his mother leaves him feeling inadequate and depressed thus making Holden isolate himself. In an article by Neil Farber M.D the main idea was on mother and child relationships and how it affects the child s development and psychoanalysis. Farber acknowledges that parent child relationships influences child and family functioning as well as and has the used longitudinal studies to look at the association between parenting styles and children s emotions and behaviors that may contribute to early mental health issues in children (Farber ). And this can be one direct reason on why Holden behaves the way he does because when Holden s family went through the loss of a son/ brother the mother began to not focus as much on Holden thus driving Holden into a depressed state of mind and those furthermore caused the isolationism.

  • 42. Setting as Catalyst for Passion in Kate Chopin s The... Setting as Catalyst for Passion in The Storm The setting for The Storm by Kate Chopin begins with a thunderstorm. The first characters that the author mentions are Bobinot and his son Bibi. They buy a can of shrimps for Calixta but are prevented from getting them to her by the storm (Chopin, 96). The author changes the setting and tells about Calixta at home. A man named Alcee arrives at her house that she has not seen in a long time. The violence of the storm forces Alcee and Calixta into the house and then into passion that ends at the same time as the storm. Chopin uses setting as a catalyst to this action, a parallel to the passion between the characters, and as a key to the theme of the story. Setting in this story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are trapped together in the world of the storm and cannot leave. Lightning strikes the tree and makes Calixta fall backward into Alcee s arms (97). The setting in The Storm forces Alcee and Calixta together and into each other s arms. The storm serves as a parallel to the passion between Alcee and Calixta. The storm is unavoidable and so is the passion because of it. When the storm forces them into each other s arms, the familiarity with their previous lives takes over and they begin having an affair (97). The storm ending at the same time as the passion, implies that they are parallel with each other. Just as the storm is a passing event that changes nature for a short time, so the affair is passing and changes the emotions of Alcee and Calixta. A storm leaves the world peaceful, bright and clean. The author portrays the affair as leaving their family relationships peaceful and full of new joy. With the last line of the story, So the storm passed and everyone was happy, (99) Chopin compares the storm s outcome with that of the affair. The storm is key to the story because it is the all powerful force of nature that drives the two lovers together, which would be almost impossible without the storm. Because the storm occurs when Alcee is riding by Calixta s house, it forces him to go there. He must take refuge inside her house when the rain starts to drench him (96). By portraying the storm as
  • 43. The Tragedy Of Hurricane Katrina Abstract As Hurricane Katrina approached New Orleans, federal and local officials underestimated the severity of the storm. Once the storm hit, they believed that it was not horrible and that it would be easy to recover from the storm. They were not expecting the levee system to fail and that 80% of the city would be under water hours after the storm passed. Once the levees failed, it took days before residents of New Orleans to get the help that they needed and many people lost their lives waiting for help. Since many New Orleans police officers lived in the city, they were the first to respond to the crisis. Due to the lack of electricity, it was hard for officials to communicate with each other, making crisis response difficult. People reported acts of violence without actually having proof. The media publicized the inaccurate information without getting evidence. Keywords: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans Police Department, media, violence, communication INTRODUCTION As Hurricane Katrina approached New Orleans in late October 2005, federal and local officials as well as residents of the city underestimated the power of the storm. Since the storm was misjudged, a concrete plan was not established in case of an emergency (Morris, Morris Jones, 2007). As the tropical storm traveled across the Atlantic Ocean towards the United States, it went from category five, extremely destructive, to category three and gathered enough wind to migrate towards New Orleans, Louisiana on
  • 44. Conformity And Exclusion In Los Cachorros Many of Mario Vargas Llosa s younger literary publications were laced with Marxist critiques of a transitioning Latin American society in the 20th century, and though on the surface, Los Cachorros may seem little more than a fictional coming of age narrative, the allegorical short story is no exception. Told through an encyclopaedic tour of Lima s urban spaces, a pack of boys transition into young men and their interactions with the city reflect both the rigidity and fragmentation of the Peruvian community as a whole. With particular reference to chapter five, this essay will explore the cities implicit influence on the characters fulfilment of heteronomous social identities, and Vargas Llosa a use of specific literary devices to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Continuing in the theme of conformity; if the boys are united by their heteronomy, Cuellar s castration, in contrast, is the source of his ostracism. His unfortunate accident is a wound that time opens instead of closes , and as the story progresses, Vargas Llosa juxtaposes the boys socially inclusive youthful pastimes of football and studying mentioned earlier in the novel with his comparatively solitary penchant for the ocean and surfing a puro pecho o con colchГіn (94) in chapter five. In this passage, his distance from the others is symbolised by the isolation of the sea; the narrator says the water se lo tragГі (95) and later, the boys state that se perdiГі (96). Clearly, Cuellar s failure to partake in the testosterone fuelled rituals of sexual maturity in the city has seen him shunned from the rest of the boys and resigned to hanging out with rosquetes, cafichos y pichicateros (96) instead the modern, metropolitan outcasts. Evidently, Cuellar is incapacitated by this highly heteronormative lifestyle, as the inherent masculinity of the city is a fixed identity that will perpetually exclude him, or anyone else who cannot fulfil Peruvian societies idea of gender appropriate behaviour. Interestingly however, this notion of appropriate behaviour is recurrently brought to question throughout the story of Los Cachorros, as through the maturity of the story, the boys venture further astray from their safe haven Miraflores
  • 45. My Cultural Root Of My Resilience Islam, stands as the spiritual root of my resilience. Whatever the almighty does has a perfect meaning and he and only Him knows what he is doing. Concerning my emotion, they have failed to provide me a deep root, I simply can not use emotion to actually build up my resilience, however, playing on my psychological root can support both psychological and emotional roots. Today, I can say that I am an optimistic person. I trained my brain to actually pursue a goal whatever difficulty it encounters, and today it works. My cultural root are based on the idea that a man is only successful outside the household. Having this idea in mind, I have to be always excellence and successful, even in difficult moment. I have to find positivity and if not, I have to create way to build this positivity. b. In my culture, people are mainly focused on an idea based on gender. My culture would generally tell me that I am a Man, I should not cry, I should still raise up and fight for what I want. However, during the past two years, I have been exposed to the idea of failing forward . This expression is based on the idea that even if I fall most of the time, I should keep on going and keep on going. I have been taught that overcoming situation or building resilience is a process that needs time. First, I have to identify the situation, I have to then understand it, and then try to find a solution to it. In this way, I tried for a long time to apply the past methods. Months after months,

  • 47. Postpartum Depression And Pregnancy Pregnancy is usually thought of as a taxing, yet rewarding and joyful time for an expectant mother. It takes a toll on not only a mother s body, but also on her emotional well being. A lack of appetite, energy, and strength are not uncommon among healthy mothers, and will not call for immediate attention from a physician. Although the psychological and physiological changes a woman goes through while pregnant can present themselves as depression like symptoms, more often, they are the result of carrying a developing child. Despite the commonality of these symptoms it is important not to overlook these symptoms should they progress. Antenatal depression (depression that occurs while pregnant) and postpartum depression (depression that occurs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some researchers have attributed this imbalance of hormones to a dramatic increase in depressive behavior (Bloch et al. 2003 and Brummelte and Galea, 2010). These fluctuations in hormones do not only affect the mother, but the child as well. The spikes in hormone production can essentially, bathe an unborn child in heightened levels of cortisol and norepinephrine (Murray et al. 2013). The ramifications of these hormone baths are numerous. In one study, the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) in the UK, asked whether untreated prenatal maternal depression might predict poor prenatal nutrition and whether this was associated with postnatal child cognitive function. The results of this study supported the hypothesis that severe depressive symptoms during pregnancy correlated with lower levels of healthy nutrition and elevated levels of unhealthy nutrition, which in turn were prospectively related to a reduction in children s cognitive functioning at 4 years of age (Gentile S. 2015). There was also evidence to support that at 7 and 8 years of age, children of depressed mothers might also be at risk of suffering from emotional and behavior problems, specifically children whose mothers were affected by chronic depression (Gentile S. 2015). The increases in unhealthy levels of nutrition have also been shown to have a correlation to poorer growth in infants (Gentile S. 2015). According to S. Gentile, children whose mothers experienced antenatal depression had a greater central adiposity, but weighed less for a given height. The lack of muscle, in relation to the concentration to adipose tissue, can stunt the growth, motor development, and coordination of a growing child. Without proper nutritional support and therapy, children whose mothers experienced antenatal or postpartum depression, are at risk for developmental and cognitive setbacks in their early
