Professor Denisha White
Middle Childhood and Adolescence Development
Middle childhood development primarily entails growth previous to puberty during early school years;
yet in contrast, adolescence signifies puberty as an inevitable biological change during that period.
These stages of development refine the gradual transformation of psychological, physical, and social
ways that enlighten any life span. This essay thoroughly will examine adolescent development and
include positive and negative consequences of preliminary actions surrounding this time. An
annotation will provide an extensive description of changes during middle childhood and adolescence

Group formations or cliques normally form during middle and high school years. These individual s
biases are normally superficial concerns that divide adolescents into groups of similar qualities such as
intelligence and athletic ability. School systems help in the division of peer groups with school
sponsored clubs but adolescents facilitate the attitude of how the group thinks and behave. (Hansell
amp; Damour, 2008) (Feist amp; Feist, 2009) (Kowalski amp; Westen, 2009)
Adolescent Egocentrism
Adolescent egocentrism refers to a mental development limited in adolescents by others. Adolescents
are able or are capable to feel when others paying attention to their appearance and behavior. For
example, adolescents spend a significant time making them to look good in front of everybody;
adolescents are too worried about their appearance and behavior. This type of egocentrism is known in
teens between the ages of 11 or 12 years to 16 year old. Adolescents usually create an imaginary
audience in their own self consciousness (Berger, 2008). In many cases, this phase passes overtime,
but understanding, and patience is required throughout this phase. According to Berger (2008), people
focus their eyes on this type of adolescent and the way how they (adolescents) think. That is,
egocentric adolescents have

Task 2 P2 A Newtonian fluid is a fluid that exhibits constant viscosity regardless of any external stress
applied to it, like mixing or a sudden application of force. Like water; this flows in the same direction
regardless of whether it s left alone or agitated. A Newtonian fluid, by definition, can only be affected
by pressure and temperature together, or temperature, but not pressure on its own. Water The viscosity
of water can be affected by temperature, and by pressure and temperature, but not by pressure on its
own. As a liquid, it is incompressible and so isn t affected much by pressure. As the temperature
applied to water increases, it starts to become unstable, like when water in a pan begins to boil and it
starts to bubble. When water reaches its boiling point, its state changes from a liquid to a gas, and it
becomes steam. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air When the temperature of the air is increased, it starts to rise. This happens because the hotter the
air is, the less dense it becomes. The viscosity in air increases with the temperature; this is equal to the
square root of the temperature. The viscosity increases because the molecules collide more frequently.
Because of this, the molecules move around randomly, due to the increased number of collisions. Air
is normally independent of pressure. However it can be pressurised, like a deodorant spray. Task 5

Background Information of Death Valley Essay
Background Information of Death Valley
Established as a National Park in 1933 under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Death Valley is the
largest national park in the continental United States even though its total length is no more than
approximately 100 miles in length. The valley is located in the Mojave Desert in eastern California
and is surrounded by the Amargosa Range on the east, the Panamint Range on the west, and the
Sylvania Mountains and Owlshead Mountains on the northern and southern boundaries. The
topography of this region is varied and complex; and has a lengthy geologic history that explains why
it is riddled with a variety of sand dunes, craters, and flood carved canyons to name a few. The total
area of the valley is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immediately following the upheaval, various collisions between the Pacific and Farralon plates
resulted in the reversal of the original plate movement. At one point, some geologist believe that
Death Valley and the surrounding mountains Panamint, Black, and Cottonwood were actually all
stacked on top of each other and the separation lead to the present valley.
Precambrian: Death Valley Dawn 1.8 billion to 570 million years ago
The oldest rocks found in the Death Valley region were formed in the Precambrian time period no
more than 1.8 billion years ago during the latter half of the Proterozoic Eon. The rocks are seen on the
steep face of the Black Mountains above the current area of Badwater and were formed via deposits of
mud and sand from an ancient volcanic mountain belt. Sometime between 1.8 and 1.7 billion years
ago, the volcanic and sedimentary rocks were severely altered when chemical or structural changes
occurred because of intense heat or pressure from the Earth s core. Because of this process, any
fossilized information about the region was lost making it impossible to truly understand the origin of
the region. There is some debate on whether basalt or schist was the original and dominate rock in the
region before it was transformed into contorted gneiss, but again, there is no way to prove either
theory.
Evidence in the Mosaic Canyon; however, do suggest that the area was covered by a warm

The Transcript Of A Speech Delivered By Thomas Morris Chester
This document is the transcript of a speech delivered by Thomas Morris Chester to an audience in
Philadelphia in 1862. Based on the citation for the passage, we can assume that this version was the
one published as a pamphlet.
Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1834, Thomas Morris Chester was the son of escaped slave from
Maryland who had found as an oyster salesman. As a young man, he traveled to Liberia upon his
return he became an editor of the Star of Liberia newspaper, a pro African colonization publication.
By the time of the Civil War, he was one of the more famous African American orators and an
advocate for Black Nationalism. After this speech, he would serve as a recruiter for colored regiments.
According to some reports even raising a militia of free blacks to defend Harrisburg during the
Gettysburg Campaign. In August 1864, he became a war correspondent for the Philadelphia Press and
spent the rest of the war traveling with the Army of the Potomac on the long road to Appomattox.
Directly upon his return from the front, he would join the National Equal Rights League.
This speech was delivered on December 9, 1862 at the close of one of the bloodiest years and in the
midst of one of the greatest turning points in American history The preliminary Emancipation
Proclamation had been announced several months earlier, but the Proclamation would not come into
effect for another month. American slavery was truly dying, leaving African Americans in a period of
uncertainty

Fight Club, Hypermasculinity and Misogyny Essay
You are not your bank account. You are not the clothes you wear. You are not the contents of your
wallet. You are not your bowel cancer. You are not your Grande latte. You are not the car you drive.
You are not your fucking khakis Tyler Durden, Fight Club
In 1996, Chuck Palahniuk published his first novel, Fight Club. On the surface it can is seen as a
backlash to the feminization of men, and a celebration of violence for violence sake. But what is it
really about? Fight Club is a protest against not the feminization of the western male, but against men
themselves. (Audio track three on the special edition DVD featuring author Chuck Palahniuk and
screenwriter Jim Uhls is fantastic and can help the reader understand the motivations of ... Show more

The violence that he creates with fight club is libertarian in a sense that it is out of the way, between
two consenting adults, but also a throwback to ritual combat. One man runs as a `chief figure who
announces and enforces the rules fight club. During one scene, Jack takes note of this and compares
the chanting of the crowd to a Pentecostal service, the crowd speaking in tongues.
With the condemnation of many of society s more violent activities, i.e., boxing, action films, et
cetera, fight club s slippery slope argument that men want violence in their lives seems to make sense.
Something IS missing in our lives, something that has always been there but is disappearing as the
decline of western civilization continues. Tyler addresses this problem on the public bus, pointing out
a Calvin Klein ad and asking if that is what a man is. Should we buy what Madison Avenue tells us
what to be?
For thousands of years man has been the provider of families, the soldier, the knight, and the hero that
saved the princess, the intrepid explorer. Fight Club argues that men should return to that state, but the
blame is not placed on women, indiviuals, society or even a government. The blame for the
emasculation of the male is placed on capitalism.
Fight Club evolves (or, it could be argued, devolves) into Project Mayhem. The project aims not to
harm anyone just things, corporate art, entities, and

Essay on Ap World Similarities and Differences China and Rome
Han China and Rome The Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire both had a great influence not only on
its people but the world as a whole. The two had similar and different methods of political control.
Both ruled their people under a bureaucracy, they had civil servants to maintain their large empires,
and their foundations were made of great and strong rulers. Aside from the similarities they also had
several differences. Take China for example, they focused more on Confucianism and they had a
Mandate of Heaven. Rome on the other hand used entertainment to distract and control the masses of
its population.
To begin with, both Imperial Rome and Han China were ruled under a bureaucracy. In Rome the
emperor was the ultimate authority. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Civilians could obtain government jobs by taking examinations. Loyal followers were also rewarded
government posts by their emperor. Now what would The Han Dynasty and The Roman Empire do
without their great and strong emperors? The emperors are pretty much the building foundations of the
empire. Rome had the one and only Octavian who later took the title of Augustus. Augustus was Julius
Caesar s grandnephew and adopted son. He became the Roman Empire s first emperor after defeating
the combined forces of Mark Anthony and Queen Cleopatra. He brought the empire to a long and
peaceful period which is known as Pax Romana. He also glorified Rome and created a form of
government which is known as a bureaucracy that survived for centuries. There were other great
emperors of Rome like: Nerva, Hadrian, Trajan, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelias. Nerva began
the custom of adopting heir. Hadrian consolidated earlier conquests and reorganized the bureaucracy.
Trajan help the empire reach its greatest extent; he undertook vast bulding programs and enlarged
social welfare. Antoninus Pius reign largely a period of peace and prosperity similar to Pax Romana.
Marcus Aurelias brought the Roman Empire to its height of economic prosperity, defeated invaders,
and wrote a philospy. The Han Dynasty had the great emperor Wudi who reigned for 141 to 87 B.C;
he was the emperor who ruled the longest. He was a courageous emperor; he expanded the Chinese
empire through war. When

Once upon a time, in the Tall Tree Forest, Danny the Bear and Timothy the Turtle were playing hide

Excuse you, I am the mother and I can do whatever I please.
If I was a bear, you would let us be friends, and I don t see anyone telling you not to be friends with
Mrs. Tiger or the Monkey family.
Mrs. Bear started to turn red and the only thing on her mind was how she was going to respond; but
she didn t.
The next day, the Bear family loaded the last of their boxes onto the moving truck and wiped the tears
from their loved ones. Timothy was sad that they were moving, but he felt satisfied that Mrs. Bear is
allowing Danny to have more friends.
And everyone lived happily ever after.

Merit Pay Essay
Legal Status of Merit Pay Inasmuch as implementing a merit pay system is not illegal, it can cause
legal concerns. As stated by Pullin (2013), the legal concerns will arise due to how a merit pay system
has been established and the rubric to determine who is eligible for the reward. For example, if a
teacher perceives a school leader does not like them, the controversy will be the ratings are not
accurate on their observation. If the ratings are not accurate, it will result in the teacher not receiving
their merit pay bonus. In my district, the teacher rating system is based on 80% teacher practice. As
the school leader, I am required to observe their delivery of instruction, data analysis, differentiation,
curriculum alignment, classroom climate, and professional responsibilities. According to the
observation tool, one or two words will make the difference if the rating is Proficient 1, 2, or 3. ...

However, each school district can work with the teacher s union to establish the governing standards
of the merit pay system. Smith stated in the article that schools must implement what is has
established as the measurable standards (2011). In my district, the teacher observation tool is what the
school leaders are mandated to use in observing the teacher. It is important to give specific feedback to
the teachers in the praise and polish of each standard. The feedback should speak to what areas you
notice quality instructional practices and what areas are in need of improvement. I use the actual
terminology of the rubric when giving feedback to ensure I am observing the specific instructional

Muhammad Yunus, Founder of the Grameen Bank is often hailed as the architect of microfinance
lending and has been praised around the world for his work and even awarded the Nobel Peace prize
in 2006. The concept of microfinance is to lend small portions of money to poor people who could not
have otherwise acquired a loan from a regular bank. Microfinance banks give the poor a small loan
with incredibly high interest rates in the hope that the borrower will create a business or some form of
income creating venture to sustain themselves and pay back their loans. Not only is that person left
with a way to support themselves, but it also creates jobs in the community. These banks have noticed
that when the money was lent to a family through the woman of the household, it went a longer way
than if the man of the household received the loan. Yunus has noticed even within the Grameen Bank
that Poor women [have] an amazing skill, the skill of managing a scarce resource. (12) Studies have
shown that if a mother is receiving income the first beneficiaries are her children. The effects of this
are amazing, many communities have seen a rise in school enrollment and improved child survival
rates because women are more likely to spend money on food for their children and health care than
are fathers. There is a saying, If you give a man a fish, he will eat

Sexism And Equality
The fight women s rights and equality has been an ongoing theme throughout history. Much like
racism, sexism limits a person based on a physicality they cannot control. Its uncivilized and brings a
huge uproar and controversy in its path. For years there has been groups and protests to change the
course of sexism and change it for the better. Admittedly, it has improved, but as a society we are far
from equality.
According to Martin Luther King, there a four steps to accomplish a peaceful protest. The first step of
that process is gathering facts to determine if there is an unjustification. There has been a debate on
whether or not if sexism is still prevalent. However, since it is even up for debate, that goes to show

Much like how Mohandas Gandhi made salt from seawater to protest against the Salt Act, a direct yet
peaceful direct action must be made to seal the deal per say. Direct action can have a bug effect from a
small action. Additionally, a small action can turn into a big deal. For example, on April 21st of every
year there is the Day of Silence . This is a form of peaceful protest to bring awareness to the silencing
of LGBT people and many also use it as a day or mourning to those lost to homophobia. Interesting
enough, there actually was one of the largest direct action protests for women s rights this year on
March 8th. There was an estimated amount of 470,000, three times as many people to attend Trumps

the year 2017 as a turning point. This is our direct action and the final step of Dr. King s

The Funerary Model Of A Pig Sty
Mingqi
For this first paper assignment I have chosen to write my essay on The Funerary Model of a Pig Sty.
This artwork takes place in Ancient China around c. 2nd century BCE. It was designed and used
within the Han Dynasty early in China s history. These clay models like the pig sty and other burial
goods had a hand in furthering the development of Chinas cultural heritage and beliefs. Within this
paper I will be discussing my chosen MIA artwork, works that are similar but different to this artwork,
and also how all three works, although all different, have the same purpose for what they have been
made for. Then finally touching on how the context of the piece can change based on its surroundings.

(MIA) The roofs are separated into four sections on both rooftops. On the square latrine roofs there are
four triangles. While on the rectangular latrine there are two triangles and two trapezoids for the
rooftops shape. I find that this adds to the depth of the roof giving this piece great detail. One can see
this not just in the structure, but also in the details of the animals found in the pigsty model. For
starters when looking around there are seven animals total. They are a boar or male pig, a dog, a sow
who is feeding her three young piglets, and finally a bird. (MIA) In this particular model each animal
is found doing something known for what that animal does in real life. For example the boar is outside
the pen eating slop by himself out of a bowl. While the dog is above the boar on the walkway lazily
sleeping his day away in what could be the hot sun. As one moves along within the piece and looks
inside the pen one can see a sow that is really doing the most work in this model for she is feeding her
three young piglets right in the middle of the pen. This is okay because her and the piglets are the only
four in the pen causing a feeling of calm to the person looking at the work. Finally we move our eyes
up and see a nest with a bird in it. This bird seems to be stretching his wings or cleaning them minding
its own business. All these individual details make up one

Specific words can drastically change someone else s perspective. While some words are heard and

For me, the word that means so much to me is rejection . It was never really spoken about when I was
young, but it didn t mean I knew what it meant. I constantly felt rejected, whether it was at school or
in society itself. It took control of my childhood; I always kept my mouth shut along with my ideas in
my head. I believed that as soon as I opened my mouth, it would lead me into instant rejection. My
feelings towards this word was highly unhealthy.

continued being like this, until I finally opened up to my mother when I was 7. Instead of yelling at

I won t go much into detail about what my mother s speech was about. It was your regular, the world

Brief Summary Of Birling s Financial Implications
Birling is an egotistical, arrogant man that follows his capitalistic ideology. He has no concept of
value other than wealth or social status. This is revealed when Birling says Sheila means a tremendous
lot to me. This could be a demonstration of Birling s love for Sheila but because of the adversity
woman had faced because of their social inequality from men indicates that Birling is using his
daughter for his own selfish greed. Sheila is a representation of feminisation in society during the
early 1900 because she is treated as an object. By using the word means , it signifies that it could be a

Differences Between Formalist And Functionalist Stylistics
The Comparison and Contrast between Formalist and Functionalist Stylistics There are several
differences way how formalist and functionalist analyze a text. The formalists consist of Roman
Jakobson s poetic function of language, Viktor Shklovsky s defamiliarisation and Vladimir Propp s the
morphology of the folktale. Besides, the functionalist consists of Halliday with his tripartite functions
(ideational, interpersonal, and textual). Both differences will explain below. The first part will flesh
out about formalist stylistics. Russian Formalism is known at the beginning of the twentieth century as
the great impact on the contemporary stylistics. There are two famous schools which claim founding

Functionalist is not only concerning the text, but it is also interested in the role that context play in the
process of meaning making. So, there are gradual movements from text to context, from form to
function, from semantics to pragmatics and from logic to rhetoric. In Halliday in Routledge (2014:46),
Halliday observes that language has tripartite function which can be broken down into three
interconnecting metafunctions . They are ideational (to express ideas and experience (clause as
representation)), interpersonal (to mediate in the establishment of social relationship(clause as
exchange)), textual (to provide the formal properties of language(clause as message)). These three
metafunctions are good when these are used all of the in any study of text. Cohesion is the part of
textual metafunction which refers to the way in which sentences are linked together in order to make
sense. There are several cohesion devices which are able to tie together semantically such as
conjunction, ellipsis, substitution and reference. These features of cohesion have function to cohere
between the message and the language so that the readers are not

Business Impact Analysis Example
Introduction It is notable that the Business Impact Analysis (BIA) is a fundamental tool that provides
business consistency in any enterprise. Why is it fundamental? BIA is necessary for the generation of
disaster recovery plans or for ensuring that an enterprise remains consistent. It permits business
directors to determine information technology processes and critical elements within an organization.
In addition, a BIA describes the period required for an enterprise unit to complete and supply
deliveries to its clients along with any resources necessary to continue business operations. Business

In short, Cloud computing models allow access to computer resources and information anywhere
provided a connection is present. They provide shared pools of sources including networks processing
power, data storage, and specialized user applications. Examples of these services include webmail,
networking sites, online file storage, and online business applications. The technology under
discussion has five main characteristics that enable it to run efficiently. Its first characteristic is the on
demand self service. A consumer has the capacity to unilaterally access services in a timely fashion
devoid of any human interaction with every service provider. Another trait is that the technique has a
broad network access because services are available over the network. It is crucial to point out that
networks are accessible via standard mechanisms that promote use of heterogeneous client platforms.
Therefore, this element improves the efficiency of cloud computing. The third trait is rapid elasticity
where capabilities (of access to information) can be provisioned elastically and released automatically.
It follows that capabilities often appear to be unlimited hence, released to consumers at any time. The
fourth characteristic of cloud computing is resource pooling where computing resources are pooled

For many people risk is an accepted part of everyday life. Every day activities such as catching the

element of risk.
Risk plays a part in our health, safety, security, well being, employment, education, daily activities,
using resources and equipment and in community participation. But some adults, for example disabled
people or older people, are often discouraged from taking risks.
Traditionally they are not encouraged to take risks in areas such as budgeting, planning, employment

Puerto Rico Narrative
Koki, Koki, Koki . It was Christmas night, where me and my family took a roundtrip to Puerto Rico,
to visit my father s side of the family. As I m walking out of the airplane, and into the airport, I hear
these noises Koki, Koki, Koki , in a repetitive melody. I start wondering what is that noise and where
is it coming from , and behold, it is a small frog. That was the first thing I noticed once I stepped
inside Puerto Rico s airport. But why did my family and I book a trip to Puerto Rico? To see frogs?
Certainly not. My family is very disconnected, so we decided to fly to Puerto Rico Christmas night
and spend a week there to recommunicate with our family. But in the midst of visiting my family, we
also went to festivals to celebrate the upcoming year. Oh my was the first thing that came up in mind,
as I saw that I was surrounded by mountains everywhere. The airport itself was on top of a mountain,

The Audio Engineer
A vital part in the making of any professionally made album is the production and post production
process. These processes are the responsibility of audio engineers employed by record labels. The
engineers are responsible for the recording, mixing, and mastering of audio tracks. To do this,
engineers are trained with various technologies in the fields of multi track recording, outboard gear
and digital/analog workstations. With their knowledge and tools, engineers help the artists convey
their art as best as possible not only to themselves but also to the demographic they wish to express
their art to.
The job of the engineer can be best described as a presenter in a techno artistic field. The job requires

According to an interview of noted audio engineer Simon Kasprowicz what makes a good engineer
from a bad is totally subjective and depends upon individual desire because what may sound fantastic
to someone, others will find fault in (Kasprowicz, about.com).
When all of the tracks of a project have been recorded, assembled, and edited onto the digital audio
workstation or tape deck, the next step would be to individually mix the elements of their work in their
final edited forms. The mix down process occurs by routing the various tracks of a digital audio
workstation or tape based recorder through a hardware virtual mixing console to alter the overall
session s program, all which include getting relative level, spatial positioning, using equalizers, and
effects. Once these measures are taken care of, the engineer can then set up a rough mix of the song by
adjusting levels and the spatial pan positions. The producer who is mostly provides feedback to the
artist and the engineer during the session, listens to the mix and may ask the engineer to make specific
changes such as amplitude adjustments. Instruments in their isolated tracks are often soloed for
equalized changes to be made. The usual compression and limiting can be used in the mixing process
to make individual tracks sound fuller and more consistent

Minoan Everyday Life Essay
Greece: The Bronze Age Society in Minoan Crete
Everyday Life (1)
By Emily Gold
Entertainment and leisure activities:
Acrobatics was used in most leisure activities that the Minoan people used to keep themselves
entertained, as running and leaping supplied to success in warfare ad hunting.
Bull leaping was the most famed and controversial of all Minoan sports, this sport consists of an
athlete who would sprint head long at a charging bull, grab the bulls horns and jump onto its back,
then the athlete would descend of the animal from its behind. Many scholars argue whether bull
leaping was a true sport in the Minoan Society as some believe it would have been extremely
dangerous to have participated in this sport, yet other scholars state ... Show more content on

Honey was and is still the most famous in Crete as it was the only sweetener.
The food in the Minoan Society shows that the people in Minoan Crete relied on their farming and
crops for most of their resources in food. Also that they had a extreme range of foods in their diet,
which shows that this society was quite prosperous.
Evidence of food in the Ancient Greek era were the Large Pithoi from a storage room in Knossos,
these large containers or pots were used to store food.
The Minoans wore artistically designed and competently made clothing, they wore an assortment of
complex clothing, the garments were sewn together much like the way modern clothes are prepared.
The Minoans sewed skirts and blouses that were shaped to the body of the wearer. Minoan Crete had a
hot climate, so layers of clothes were not needed. The men wore only loincloths, this was small pieces
of fabric wrapped around the waist to cover the genitals which were made from a wide range of
materials, such as, leather, wool, linen and decorated with bright colours and patterns. Many people
had long aprons in the front and back with tassels or fringes and the Minoans also had a decorative
pagne or sheath that covered and protected the penis. Early Minoan men usually did not wear any
garment that covered their chest, yet in later years of the Minoan civilization men frequently wore

Life And The Truth Behind Of Siddhartha, Phaedrus, And...
Part 1 Siddhartha, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and Oedipus the King, while
seemingly being very different stories, all have similar ideas about truth and meaning, knowledge
versus wisdom, and the impact of oneself internally, which all culminate into the realization of value
within oneself. To find the truth it has been said that one has to look within. It is within those
parameters that Siddhartha, Phaedrus, and Oedipus found what they searched so longingly for. On the
topic of Siddhartha, his search for enlightenment was more of a search for the meaning of life and the
truth behind it. As Thomas J. Schoenberg and Lawrence J. Trudeau put it, The novel, which examines
themes related to spirituality and personal growth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Siddhartha, Siddhartha himself states that, any truth can only be expressed and put into words when
it is one sided. (Hesse, 129). meaning that truth can only be found on your side, because the truth
could be interpreted multiple different ways depending on your perspective. That point is further
enforced within Zen, as Phaedrus ponders existence. But no one is willing to give up the truth as he
sees it,... (Pirsig, 74). As for Oedipus, there is no exact quote available to support the ideas of truth and
meaning, however the development of his learning throughout the story, and the moral of the story to
be learned provide the evidence to support the existence of truth and meaning within the story.
Oedipus learns what he desires to know about Thebes and why it was crumbling only by discovering
his own history. And through that he learned why they must endure the trials and tribulations that were
brought about by the gods. So while these characters developed how to come up with the truth, they
still did not know how to apply it, which leads to the battle between knowledge and wisdom.
Knowledge, just knowing the facts, versus wisdom, having experienced the facts firsthand, are two
very different ideas. Knowledge itself is able to be taught, thanks to instructors. However, wisdom is
not able to be passed down, because people are unable to project experiences onto other people. It is
impossible to tell the story of your experience and expect the

Survival Of The Holocaust
The holocaust was a time people were surrounded by humiliation, exploitation, hardships, loss and
death. It was barely possible for people to stay human during this time. The Holocaust was a severe
tragedy that happened in the early 1940s and will forever be remembered. There were many
people,The Bielski brothers in particular, who remarkably fought against the beliefs and doings of
Hitler and the Nazi party.
The Bielski brothers, Tuvis, Zus and Aasel lost their parents and siblings to the cruelty of the Nazis,
but they survived. Their group was made not only to resist Hitler and the nazis, but to save lives.
Together, they risked their lives everyday to help save and help those who suffered from the doings of

They carried out the largest armed rescue of Jews by their own people during the war. In their eyes,
they were seeking revenge, or payback, for the massacre of their family. The group had a location in
the forest where they took the people they rescued from the ghettos. Some decided not to go either
because they feared the hunger and the cold of the forests. They also did not believe that fighting the
Germans would change the course of history. The ones that had decided to escape had to slip through
fences, holes and tunnels and walk through the countryside to the forest camp. The nazis caused pain
to the jews, but the pain was forgotten when one man in particular saw two of the Bielski brothers and
a dozen other Jewish partisans. They were on tall horses and carrying machine guns, he says. It was an
amazing sight. The brothers had to constantly move camp to stay ahead of the germans. They ended
up in Naliboki forest, where they created a settlement with a bakery, infirmary, workshops for
carpenters, tailors and shoemakers and even a small theatre. The group had to work hard to stay alive,
but it was worth it to not be in control of the Germans who wanted nothing but to see them suffer.
In many ways, this was a learning experience for us. We learned that indifference is a terrible way to
treat people. We always say that it will never happen again, but still it happens. As young people, its
our duty to make sure it doesn t, but it still does. Why does it keep repeating? Its an ongoing event that
will never stop if we don t do something. We must learn from the past so we can prevent it from ever
happening again. But how can we do this? We can stop it by not being a bystander to indifference.
People suffer when we choose to do nothing. People die when we do

Lincoln s Attempt To Support D Estaing
American forces in the south, between 5,000 and 7,000 men, were based at Charleston under the
command of General Benjamin Lincoln. Lincoln recognized that he would need assistance from the
French navy and army to retake Savannah. On September 3, he learned that the French forces under
the command of Admiral Comte d Estaing were en route to Savannah, bringing with them ships of the
line and 4,000 soldiers. On September 11, Lincoln marched out of Charleston with 2,000 Continentals
to link up with d Estaing. Arriving first, d Estaing began offensive operations to take the city. He
initially offered Prevost an opportunity to surrender, but Prevost demurred, hoping that reinforcements
would arrive. He was given twenty four hours. This reprieve would prove in the end to be pivotal, as
1,000 men arrived to support Prevost s force just as Lincoln arrived to support d Estaing. The Allied
forces, when fully assembled, numbered near 7,000. Defending Savannah was a force totaling 2,500
men. Faced with overwhelming odds, Prevost organized a solid defensive plan. ... Show more content

Lincoln reluctantly ceded de facto command to d Estaing, who had begun operations before Lincoln s
arrival. The French commander believed that a frontal assault against the British position would be
futile and instead proposed to bombard the city. Lincoln concurred, French cannons were removed
from their ships, and a five day cannonade began. However, Savannah bore the brunt of the artillery
assault while the defensive positions remained relatively untouched, so d Estaing eventually agreed to
the frontal assault in spite of objections by his officers. He worried that a protracted siege would take
too long and wanted to redeem his glory that had been tarnished at Newport, Rhode Island.

A Feminist Stance In Politics
A Feminist Stance in Politics in the Middle East During the first few weeks of my Women Filmmakers
in the Middle East class we watched two films and did a few readings to start the semester. One of the
readings was The Political Aesthetics of the Feminist Documentary Film by Julia Lesage. This reading
was informative and also had arguments about feminist documentaries based in the Middle East that I
really agreed with. The first film we watched was a documentary called The Play the second
documentary was called The Four Women of Egypt. Although the women in the films are very
different, they all have a very strong feminist perspective that have assisted in making a difference in
this world and to me. Pelin Esmer, the director of The Play really emphasized that the women in this
documentary were real in the sense that they had a low level of education and had gone through some
really hard times. Theses factors played such a huge role in Esmer s political voice because they were

absent, and because girls grow up in an emotional continuum with their mothers and the other women

other women (231). I agree with this because in both films you are able to see the women influencing
each other. In The Play the men (except for the principal) are not really involved and don t necessarily
have a feminist opinion on female oppression. In The Four Women of Egypt, there is no man that is

Criminal Communication and Its Effect
This is an excerpt from an investigation I wrote for Comuniclab, the web magazine of the University
of Rome La Sapienza . The work has been featured in several magazines.
Criminal communication
Naples criminal cartels communication strategies We talk through our guns . I was 8 when, passing by
the headquarters of a mafia clan to reach my school, I heard this sentence. (...) It seems to be a clear
and demonstrated truth: for instance, the war between local gangs Ascione Papale and Birra Iacomino
killed 18 mobsters and wounded several people, between 2007 and 2008. The latter is one of the most
recent mafia wars, and many examples are from that experience.
Wars and murders make many people think that weapons are the best means of communication for
mafia groups, but that is incorrect. Actually, these organizations power is widely based on the ability
to communicate to people, in various forms, their dominion over the territory, the capability to
dispense life and death, success and failure, favors and punishments. It is usually hard to find solid
evidence about the power of communication , Mario Morcellini, Professor and Director of the
Department of Communication and Social Research at the University of Rome Sapienza , says. On the
contrary, when we see how criminal cartels use communication, this power appears to be crystal clear.
They are enterprises, built on a communicative and symbolic dimension, and communication is the
most valuable commodity they sell .

In Defense Of Gender By Cyra Fadden
Cyra McFadden s article In Defense of Gender attempts to drive home the thought that replacing
gender identifiers with he/she , or something of the like, massacres both the written and spoken word.
McFadden firmly believes the neutering of written or spoken works with slashes does nothing to solve
a problem of overly masculine identifiers. Forcing these changes into classical literature could very
well destroy the genera. Attempting to write speeches in this manner lays an undue burden on both the
speaker and the audience. Enacting these changes as journalist may drive away your audience, as it

social sites platforms or networks. This type of marketing would be most beneficial advertising
approach, and more importantly it could cost them less money than advertising through television.
With so many ways to network among tweens/teens and adults, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram are
the ones that teens really gravitate to. Twitter currently have over 328 million active users, which rank
them 9th within the social network industry. Although it has little message capabilities, it seems to be
popular. Teens at times have very little attention span and this is primary the reason that teens are
attracted to it. This method of networking is extremely attractive to almost anyone with over 6,000

Designing Your Garden Is Most Likely A Personal Statement...
Designing your garden is most likely a personal statement of style. What one person likes may not be
what another likes. For instance, some people like their gardens to be neat and tidy, while others love
the adventure of winding paths and exotic plants. Formal, semi formal, and informal are the three
variations on the style for a garden. To properly design your garden, however, you will need to have
the basic Garden tools, and perhaps a few extras depending on the look you are going for. You can
choose to design your garden to mimic the design of your home, or it does not have to be related to
your home whatsoever. It is all about personal choice.
Some people are born with the innate ability to transform space into something that is very pleasing to
the eyes; whereas others are not and may not have the first idea about how they should go about
designing their outdoor space. To create a great outdoor space, you must manage the space well and
remember that people will be moving around in the space. In other words, creating great patterns and
utilizing the space within the pattern is vital. By utilizing geometrical patterns, your garden will
achieve a unified feel about it. Which way would you like your patron to move about in your garden?
You can achieve your ground pattern by using bricks or paving material. To achieve this you will need

Making A Hat With A Pom Pom
Making a loom hat with a pom pom takes a lot of time to make your first time, but after a while of
making hats with pom poms, you will be able to make them faster than your first time. The first thing
to do before making a hat with the pom pom, is to gather all material needed to make a hat. The
materials you will need are: a circular loom that matches the head size you want to make the hat, a
knitting loom tool, a tapestry needle, scissors, yarn with the color of your choice, and a flexible curve
ruler or a regular ruler. These will be all the material you will need to make a loom hat for your first

The fourth step is where we finally start making the brim of the hat. The brim will take some time to
make, but afterwards, everything will be easier to make the hat. You will need to wrap the string that is
attached to the yarn and knot the first hook you want near the hook of where the knot is on. You will
wrap it around in a circle and continue to do this for each hook next to the previous hook you just
wrapped the string around until you reach back to the beginning of where you started. You will then
push down all the wraps down each hook so you can have room to start another row of where you
wrap the string around each hook again. Make sure to not let go of the string so that none of your
work done is undone. Once you have another row done, you must use your knitting tool to grab the
first or last wrap you did on the bottom row and pull it over the hook, but make sure the top row does
not come off. I usually grab the bottom wrap on the last and pull it over and continue from there so I
don t have to worry about anything coming undone and I don t have to hold on to the string wrapped
around the hook. You then must continue to make a new row each time till you get 4 rows of the brim.
Make sure to not push down the fourth row you did for the next step. The fifth step is to get that knot
on the side to leave the hook. When you have your 4 rows of the brim done, you don t need the knot
anymore. You must take it off the hook and untie

Texas Teacher Evaluation And Support System
T TESS
Since 1997, the primary tool for teacher evaluation was the Professional Development and Appraisal
System better known as PDAS. Due to significant efforts to enhance both teacher effectiveness and
student learning and growth, the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T TESS) was
elaborated (TEA, 2016, p. 3). The T TESS was designed by educators to support continuous
improvement by focusing on feedback and support, moving the mindset away from compliance (TEA,

First of all, continual feedback allows teachers to self reflect on best practices. For example, a teacher
can target his/her areas of weakness in order to grow professionally and gain further insight of best
practices. Another benefit, of teacher evaluations is higher student success rates. These, for example,
are measurable through district assessments and state standardized assessments. If a teachers success
rate has significantly improved through modification of practices, T TESS has served its intended
purpose. Finally, yet another benefit of teacher evaluations is the fact that the educator is an active
participant in his/her evaluation process. For example, through goal setting, the educator is allowed
the opportunity to decide where he/she want to grow. Through the evaluation cycle and the
communication therein, the appraiser and educator both take greater responsibility in understanding
and meeting established goals. Finally, at the end of the process, student growth is an indicator of a
well developed and integrated evaluation system. These are but a few of the many benefits reaped

How Power Is Used For Concealing Relations Of Power
Power is usually described as bad and is mostly discussed by others about the abuse of power however
this is not true, power can be used to help or protect individuals, which is exactly what the culture I
had observed does. In this essay, I will examine the performances of power that is observed
throughout the ritual ceremony, chanting in the Buddhism culture, displaying how the religion is used
for concealing relations of power within this definite culture. Through this examination, I will use the
theories of Karl Marx (religion as ideology) and Antonio Gramsci (hegemony being concept of
power), to support the display of how the power distributes religion. By relating to the definition of
power, I argue that, for the members of this community, power is about ease and security no
inequality.
The first observation that I had seen to our visit to the Fo Guang Shan Temple that stood out to me the
most were the Buddha statues. Inside the shrine, in the prayer room, were five large Buddha statues

Along the left side of the five Buddha s, was an image of Male Buddha and on the right side was an

Characteristics Of A Successful Time Period During Late...
The traits that define a successful time period in late Imperial China are necessary expansion, unifying
the people, and the construction of an effective and incorrupt political structure. The effects of meeting
these criteria is sustained influence in following Chinese time periods both short term and long term,
as other rulers will benefit from what their predecessors have accomplished, or try to imitate

Hatching At The Beach Research Paper
Moreover, artificial lighting at the beach is a huge cause of losing population for sea turtles, because
sea turtles come to the sore to nest. Most female sea turtles depend on the dark and quiet beach to
reproduce successfully, but if there is too much light these female sea turtles will find a different
location. Having artificial lighting on the beach is endangering to mostly the hatchling and the eggs.
The articles state near shore lighting can cause sea turtle hatchlings to become disoriented when they
are born. Instead, they will wander inland where they often die of dehydration, predation, or even
from being run over on busy coastal streets. (Sea turtle conservancy). The hatching will follow the

Miss Emily Questions
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, the elderly woman is mysterious, suspicious, and a murderer.
Throughout the story the narrator talks a little about Emily s back story but the narrator does go as far
as telling about her child hood growing up but instead talks about her life from the time she is a young
adult until she is an elder. We start to see that there are some unanswered questions throughout the
entire story, and even with the surprise ending it still leaves us with a lot of questions that need to be
answered. Since the narrator didn t give that much of a backstory regarding Miss Emily, we must
come up with theories and conclusions to answer our own questions. First, we see that Miss Emily is
mysterious even from the very beginning because the narrator talks about how her house used to be,
white, decorated with cupolas, and spires, and scrolled balconies . By the way the narrator describes
her house it seems that it used to be very beautiful and full of life, but now the, garages and cotton
gins had encroached and obliterated . The narrator mentions in the story is that Miss Emily had a
manservant; we start to ask ourselves the question that if she has a servant to wait on her hand and
foot than how could she let her house get in such a bad shape like that when she could have asked her
servant to keep the house tidy since she is too old to do it herself. Another thing that is mysterious is
that the narrator mentions that she hardly ever leaves her house

Leachate is a massive ongoing potential issue in landfill that could pollute both surface water and the
ground water. There are two leachate storage dams, which are used for the collection of contaminated
rainwater from the landfill shown in figure 1 in order to prevent the environment of the ecosystem of
nearby waterways and make sure that the contaminated water does not leave the site. This Landfill site

Narcissistic Personality Disorder Essay examples
We all love ourselves. That seems to be such a true statement that we do not bother to look it as a
possible disorder. A person who loves himself is one thing but one who loves his reflection is another.
A healthy person will love himself and his accomplishments. That person is all around happy and
satisfied with himself. On the other hand one who is in love with his reflection is cause for narcissism.
One who depends on the existence of a reflection to produce the emotion of self love. It also makes it
impossible for the person to tell himself what is reality or what is fantasy. The narcissist does possess

The hospitalization of patients with severe Narcissistic Personality occurs frequently. Hospitalizations

patients for whom hospitalization is indicated, provided long term residential treatment, are those who
have poor motivation for outpatient treatment, fragile relationships, destructive acting out, and fast
paced life styles. An inpatient program can offer an intensive treatment which includes individual
psychotherapy, family involvement, and a specialized environment. The structure is physically and

expressive, conflict solving psychotherapy.
Small patient groups within the wards, along with large community meetings, there feelings are shared
and patients comments taken seriously, and work assignments, recreational activities, are assigned to

How Health Services Can Provide Culturally Safe Care
Kildea (2006) says that maternity care based on principles of Western models of health care have not
been able to improve maternal or perinatal outcomes and Molly Wardaguga, an Aboriginal health
worker and respected elder, states that inappropriate maternity care is responsible for the social
dysfunction and loss of culture often seen in Indigenous communities (Kildea, 2006). Until this day
Indigenous women have not had their voices heard or their knowledge recognised (Kildea, 2006). In
order to improve maternal and perinatal health outcomes for Indigenous Australians holistic
components from the Indigenous definition of health must be incorporated into maternity care and
connection to country must be respected (Kildea, 2006). Maternity ... Show more content on

Durey and Thompson (2012) explain that the act of balancing quality care and organisation efficiency
means that minimal resources are allocated to providing and improving appropriate Indigenous health
care. Unfortunately, this is a factor in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women avoiding culturally
unsafe care and aggravates the vicious cycle that leads to poor maternal and perinatal outcomes
(Kruske, Kildea Barclay, 2006). One of the recommendations made by the Close the Gap campaign
involves increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care workers (Kelly et
al., 2014). It is thought that doing this will encourage more Indigenous Australians to attend health
care services and also promote cultural safety therefore improving health outcomes for the Indigenous
population (Kelly et al., 2014; Kildea, Kruske, Barclay Tracy, 2010). Increasing the number of trained
Indigenous health care professionals will require the support of institutions such as universities, health
services and organisations responsible for the distribution of scholarship funds (Kelly et al., 2014;
Sherwood, 2013; Kildea, Kruske, Barclay Tracy, 2010). Specifically, Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander women must be encouraged and supported by universities to gain midwifery degrees

Elizabeth Cady Argumentative Essay
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the leader of the women s civil rights movement, said The best protection any
woman can have is courage. Having courage was one of the most important things during the women
s civil rights movement; having the courage to stand up for themselves, to fight for what they believe
in, and ultimately work hard for a better life. Elizabeth Cady Stanton lived a long life, inspiring many
people throughout her time, and was influenced by the world around her especially about her religious
beliefs.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born in 1815 and lived until the year 1902. Her adult years were filled to
the brim with responsibilities such as leading a movement, organizing conferences, and constantly
proving herself to others. Taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women were used to get work done around the house, make food, and basically be a maid for their
husband and children. Women were not allowed to vote, and weren t allowed at important meetings
because society believed that only men could lead. These unfair rights are what lead to the actions that
Elizabeth was doing. Elizabeth Stanton was also majorly influenced by the world around her because
she learned about the Holy Bible (the Christian s Bible), and was not a fan. She believed that the Bible
denied women of their full rights, since the Bible said that men are inferior to women. Following this,
Elizabeth took on the role religion played in the struggle for equal rights for women. With her
daughter, she published The Woman s Bible (biography.com).What Elizabeth values as her beliefs are
similar to the beliefs of the Transcendentalists. There is actually a transcendentalist tenet that supports
the belief of being individual and not conforming to society s standards. It reads, The idea of thinking
of oneself without the rules of society inspires free thought. The abolitionist movement and the
women s rights movement embodies this tenet by showing that they will not obey the rules that say
they can t contribute to society because they are just women, and these women choose to express their
thoughts and

A Study Of Microbial Theory
Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the advent
of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of microbial
community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying fundamental
ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer, Ferrenberg,
Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in contrast with the
complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish and test
fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup, Kassen, Forde, et
al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing simple community
properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or taxonomic overlap
(Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species inventories and abundance
data towards understanding species interactions using a network approach, allowing us to characterize
the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community common to all subjects of our study. Like
macro communities, fundamental ecological processes such as niche selection, dispersal or drift, play
part in the formation and stability of the human microbiome. By using microbial communities as
model systems, characterizing their ecological properties, assembly mechanisms and community
dynamics, we can gain deeper

Once upon a time there was a girl named Chilam she is 14 years old. She is Native American in the

family is really big so that they need to use a really big teepee because that is what they used in the

Baroque Art And Art
The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which
highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was
already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was
then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and
good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of
the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor
and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and
textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture,
and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court
of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721,
stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the
former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the
germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). Another factor that played into the
Rococo was the fact that women had a bit more authority in the sense that they were allowed to hold
positions of power. This is why Madame de Pompadour was incredibly well known as she

Coral Reef Importance
Sustainable Biomes
What Are Coral Reefs?
Livescience.com states that:
Coral reefs are expansive underwater structures which are built from stony corals that secrete calcium
carbonate to create their hard exoskeleton to protect their soft bodies. These corals consist of polyps
which are abnormal growths within the coral that cluster together to form groups. Coral reefs make up
one of the most significant marine ecosystems in the world today.
(https://www.livescience.com/40276 coral reefs.html )
Why Are Coral Reefs Important?
Alongside being one of the largest marine ecosystems in the world, coral reefs are significant for
many reasons, most of which fall under protection. But what do they protect and how do they protect
it?
Coral reefs provide coastal protection as they stop and lower wave action and erosion in shallow
shores which prevents damage to any nearby properties
Coral reefs protect the productive wetlands that lie along the coast as well as the highly productive
wetlands that are around ports and harbours
Human recreation such as fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving are all provided by the coral reefs. The
human recreation that is provided by the coral reefs benefit the people who work in the tourism
industry as they earn more money
Our earth s coral reefs are the spiritual and cultural centre for many people. For example, the
indigenous aborigines of Australia are spiritually connected to the coral reefs due to their traditional
ways of life. The

What Is The Theme Of Colonialism In Balzac And The Little...
There are often mixed feelings in Western nations regarding colonization; if it hadn t been practiced,
nations such as the United States and Canada wouldn t exist, nor would the prosperity present in many
European nations. In the places subjugated during colonization, however, there is one, unequivocal
response to the practice: absolutely not. A prime example of this is found in 1970 s China, during
which a Cultural Revolution took place as a response to the punctuation of Western ideas into the East.
Dai Sijie s Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress takes place during this event, following two city
boys, named Luo and a narrator unnamed, who have been consistently exposed to Western ideas in
their backgrounds, but then are taken to rural China for re education, introducing a different side of
culture, previously unknown to the boys. This sudden clash sees the narrator often conflicted over the
differing ideals of his home culture, often defined by its collectivism, and the culture he grew up with,
which values the expression of individuality. As time passes upon his home during his re education,
Phoenix Mountain, he ultimately arrives at a resolution that independence is more valuable than the
collectivist bonds so often present in China. The first way this cultural learning is made clear is
through the repeated incidences of the narrator s exposure to raw culture. What can be expected,
however, after being stirpped away from the city and thrown into rural China, even for a native? One
of the first demonstrations of the cultural differences incurred by mere miles comes with the narrator s
and Luo s arrival upon Phoenix Mountain. All of their possessions are searched in the very beginning
so as to determine if they are approved by the Communist Party and Chairman Mao; when they
discover the narrator s violin, their initial impression is that it s a toy. Upon hearing the head man
declare the instrument a toy, the narrator describes he and Luo as speechless (Sijie 4) and that they
exchanged furtive, anxious glances, (Sijie 4) going further to say that Things were not looking good
(Sijie 4). The stage being set in this fashion suggests, of course, a great discomfort with the situation

Five Birthday Secrets
5 Birthday Secrets On our way from the professor s office, it was so dark in the streets I almost tripped
on the end of the sidewalk. Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so excited
because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like banners,
streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said HAPPY BIRTHDAY. then JINKS.
We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piñata.] it was all so fun. After the party
while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when me and Hunter where
about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we would open The Book of
Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the box was a lot of tissue paper
and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the box that held the book and
brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it was that book that had cased all
that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell out. We each took one, my paper
said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter both have powers, yours are Invisible,
shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go back in time, super speed, super strong,
teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls, and control the weak minded. LOVE, Dad
and it said BE SAFE all over. WOW! We went to bed feeling confused, and powerful if you know

  • 2. Middle Childhood and Adolescence Middle Childhood and Adolescence Development Team B Psy 375 July, 2, 2013 Professor Denisha White Middle Childhood and Adolescence Development Middle childhood development primarily entails growth previous to puberty during early school years; yet in contrast, adolescence signifies puberty as an inevitable biological change during that period. These stages of development refine the gradual transformation of psychological, physical, and social ways that enlighten any life span. This essay thoroughly will examine adolescent development and include positive and negative consequences of preliminary actions surrounding this time. An annotation will provide an extensive description of changes during middle childhood and adolescence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Group formations or cliques normally form during middle and high school years. These individual s biases are normally superficial concerns that divide adolescents into groups of similar qualities such as intelligence and athletic ability. School systems help in the division of peer groups with school sponsored clubs but adolescents facilitate the attitude of how the group thinks and behave. (Hansell amp; Damour, 2008) (Feist amp; Feist, 2009) (Kowalski amp; Westen, 2009) Adolescent Egocentrism Adolescent egocentrism refers to a mental development limited in adolescents by others. Adolescents are able or are capable to feel when others paying attention to their appearance and behavior. For example, adolescents spend a significant time making them to look good in front of everybody; adolescents are too worried about their appearance and behavior. This type of egocentrism is known in teens between the ages of 11 or 12 years to 16 year old. Adolescents usually create an imaginary audience in their own self consciousness (Berger, 2008). In many cases, this phase passes overtime, but understanding, and patience is required throughout this phase. According to Berger (2008), people focus their eyes on this type of adolescent and the way how they (adolescents) think. That is, egocentric adolescents have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Unit 2 P2 Task 2 P2 A Newtonian fluid is a fluid that exhibits constant viscosity regardless of any external stress applied to it, like mixing or a sudden application of force. Like water; this flows in the same direction regardless of whether it s left alone or agitated. A Newtonian fluid, by definition, can only be affected by pressure and temperature together, or temperature, but not pressure on its own. Water The viscosity of water can be affected by temperature, and by pressure and temperature, but not by pressure on its own. As a liquid, it is incompressible and so isn t affected much by pressure. As the temperature applied to water increases, it starts to become unstable, like when water in a pan begins to boil and it starts to bubble. When water reaches its boiling point, its state changes from a liquid to a gas, and it becomes steam. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Air When the temperature of the air is increased, it starts to rise. This happens because the hotter the air is, the less dense it becomes. The viscosity in air increases with the temperature; this is equal to the square root of the temperature. The viscosity increases because the molecules collide more frequently. Because of this, the molecules move around randomly, due to the increased number of collisions. Air is normally independent of pressure. However it can be pressurised, like a deodorant spray. Background Information of Death Valley Essay Background Information of Death Valley Established as a National Park in 1933 under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Death Valley is the largest national park in the continental United States even though its total length is no more than approximately 100 miles in length. The valley is located in the Mojave Desert in eastern California and is surrounded by the Amargosa Range on the east, the Panamint Range on the west, and the Sylvania Mountains and Owlshead Mountains on the northern and southern boundaries. The topography of this region is varied and complex; and has a lengthy geologic history that explains why it is riddled with a variety of sand dunes, craters, and flood carved canyons to name a few. The total area of the valley is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immediately following the upheaval, various collisions between the Pacific and Farralon plates resulted in the reversal of the original plate movement. At one point, some geologist believe that Death Valley and the surrounding mountains Panamint, Black, and Cottonwood were actually all stacked on top of each other and the separation lead to the present valley. Precambrian: Death Valley Dawn 1.8 billion to 570 million years ago The oldest rocks found in the Death Valley region were formed in the Precambrian time period no more than 1.8 billion years ago during the latter half of the Proterozoic Eon. The rocks are seen on the steep face of the Black Mountains above the current area of Badwater and were formed via deposits of mud and sand from an ancient volcanic mountain belt. Sometime between 1.8 and 1.7 billion years ago, the volcanic and sedimentary rocks were severely altered when chemical or structural changes occurred because of intense heat or pressure from the Earth s core. Because of this process, any fossilized information about the region was lost making it impossible to truly understand the origin of the region. There is some debate on whether basalt or schist was the original and dominate rock in the region before it was transformed into contorted gneiss, but again, there is no way to prove either theory. Evidence in the Mosaic Canyon; however, do suggest that the area was covered by a warm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You are not your Grande latte. You are not the car you drive. You are not your fucking khakis Tyler Durden, Fight Club In 1996, Chuck Palahniuk published his first novel, Fight Club. On the surface it can is seen as a backlash to the feminization of men, and a celebration of violence for violence sake. But what is it really about? Fight Club is a protest against not the feminization of the western male, but against men themselves. The violence that he creates with fight club is libertarian in a sense that it is out of the way, between two consenting adults, but also a throwback to ritual combat. One man runs as a `chief figure who announces and enforces the rules fight club. During one scene, Jack takes note of this and compares the chanting of the crowd to a Pentecostal service, the crowd speaking in tongues. With the condemnation of many of society s more violent activities, i.e., boxing, action films, et cetera, fight club s slippery slope argument that men want violence in their lives seems to make sense. Something IS missing in our lives, something that has always been there but is disappearing as the decline of western civilization continues. Tyler addresses this problem on the public bus, pointing out a Calvin Klein ad and asking if that is what a man is. Should we buy what Madison Avenue tells us what to be? For thousands of years man has been the provider of families, the soldier, the knight, and the hero that saved the princess, the intrepid explorer. Fight Club argues that men should return to that state, but the blame is not placed on women, indiviuals, society or even a government. The blame for the emasculation of the male is placed on capitalism. Fight Club evolves (or, it could be argued, devolves) into Project Mayhem. For example, if a teacher perceives a school leader does not like them, the controversy will be the ratings are not accurate on their observation. If the ratings are not accurate, it will result in the teacher not receiving their merit pay bonus. In my district, the teacher rating system is based on 80% teacher practice. Microfinance banks give the poor a small loan with incredibly high interest rates in the hope that the borrower will create a business or some form of income creating venture to sustain themselves and pay back their loans. Not only is that person left with a way to support themselves, but it also creates jobs in the community. Admittedly, it has improved, but as a society we are far from equality. According to Martin Luther King, there a four steps to accomplish a peaceful protest. This artwork takes place in Ancient China around c. 2nd century BCE. It was designed and used within the Han Dynasty early in China s history. These clay models like the pig sty and other burial goods had a hand in furthering the development of Chinas cultural heritage and beliefs. Within this paper I will be discussing my chosen MIA artwork, works that are similar but different to this artwork, and also how all three works, although all different, have the same purpose for what they have been made for. (MIA) The roofs are separated into four sections on both rooftops. On the square latrine roofs there are four triangles. While on the rectangular latrine there are two triangles and two trapezoids for the rooftops shape. I find that this adds to the depth of the roof giving this piece great detail. One can see this not just in the structure, but also in the details of the animals found in the pigsty model. For starters when looking around there are seven animals total. They are a boar or male pig, a dog, a sow who is feeding her three young piglets, and finally a bird. (MIA) In this particular model each animal is found doing something known for what that animal does in real life. For example the boar is outside the pen eating slop by himself out of a bowl. While the dog is above the boar on the walkway lazily sleeping his day away in what could be the hot sun. As one moves along within the piece and looks inside the pen one can see a sow that is really doing the most work in this model for she is feeding her three young piglets right in the middle of the pen. This is okay because her and the piglets are the only four in the pen causing a feeling of calm to the person looking at the work. Finally we move our eyes up and see a nest with a bird in it. This bird seems to be stretching his wings or cleaning them minding its own business. All these individual details make up one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Differences Between Formalist And Functionalist Stylistics The Comparison and Contrast between Formalist and Functionalist Stylistics There are several differences way how formalist and functionalist analyze a text. The formalists consist of Roman Jakobson s poetic function of language, Viktor Shklovsky s defamiliarisation and Vladimir Propp s the morphology of the folktale. Besides, the functionalist consists of Halliday with his tripartite functions (ideational, interpersonal, and textual). Both differences will explain below. The technology under discussion has five main characteristics that enable it to run efficiently. Its first characteristic is the on demand self service. A consumer has the capacity to unilaterally access services in a timely fashion devoid of any human interaction with every service provider. Another trait is that the technique has a broad network access because services are available over the network. It is crucial to point out that networks are accessible via standard mechanisms that promote use of heterogeneous client platforms. Therefore, this element improves the efficiency of cloud computing. To find the truth it has been said that one has to look within. It is within those parameters that Siddhartha, Phaedrus, and Oedipus found what they searched so longingly for. As for Oedipus, there is no exact quote available to support the ideas of truth and meaning, however the development of his learning throughout the story, and the moral of the story to be learned provide the evidence to support the existence of truth and meaning within the story. Oedipus learns what he desires to know about Thebes and why it was crumbling only by discovering his own history. And through that he learned why they must endure the trials and tribulations that were brought about by the gods. So while these characters developed how to come up with the truth, they still did not know how to apply it, which leads to the battle between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge, just knowing the facts, versus wisdom, having experienced the facts firsthand, are two very different ideas. Knowledge itself is able to be taught, thanks to instructors. The fourth step is where we finally start making the brim of the hat. The brim will take some time to make, but afterwards, everything will be easier to make the hat. You will need to wrap the string that is attached to the yarn and knot the first hook you want near the hook of where the knot is on. You will wrap it around in a circle and continue to do this for each hook next to the previous hook you just wrapped the string around until you reach back to the beginning of where you started. You will then push down all the wraps down each hook so you can have room to start another row of where you wrap the string around each hook again. Make sure to not let go of the string so that none of your work done is undone. Once you have another row done, you must use your knitting tool to grab the first or last wrap you did on the bottom row and pull it over the hook, but make sure the top row does not come off. I usually grab the bottom wrap on the last and pull it over and continue from there so I don t have to worry about anything coming undone and I don t have to hold on to the string wrapped around the hook. You then must continue to make a new row each time till you get 4 rows of the brim. Make sure to not push down the fourth row you did for the next step. The fifth step is to get that knot on the side to leave the hook. Due to significant efforts to enhance both teacher effectiveness and student learning and growth, the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T TESS) was elaborated (TEA, 2016, p. 3). The T TESS was designed by educators to support continuous improvement by focusing on feedback and support, moving the mindset away from compliance (TEA, 2016, p. 3). For example, a teacher can target his/her areas of weakness in order to grow professionally and gain further insight of best practices. Another benefit, of teacher evaluations is higher student success rates. These, for example, are measurable through district assessments and state standardized assessments. If a teachers success rate has significantly improved through modification of practices, T TESS has served its intended purpose. Finally, yet another benefit of teacher evaluations is the fact that the educator is an active participant in his/her evaluation process. For example, through goal setting, the educator is allowed the opportunity to decide where he/she want to grow. Through the evaluation cycle and the communication therein, the appraiser and educator both take greater responsibility in understanding and meeting established goals. How Power Is Used For Concealing Relations Of Power Power is usually described as bad and is mostly discussed by others about the abuse of power however this is not true, power can be used to help or protect individuals, which is exactly what the culture I had observed does. In this essay, I will examine the performances of power that is observed throughout the ritual ceremony, chanting in the Buddhism culture, displaying how the religion is used for concealing relations of power within this definite culture. Through this examination, I will use the theories of Karl Marx (religion as ideology) and Antonio Gramsci (hegemony being concept of power), to support the display of how the power distributes religion. By relating to the definition of power, I argue that, for the members of this community, power is about ease and security no inequality. The first observation that I had seen to our visit to the Fo Guang Shan Temple that stood out to me the most were the Buddha statues. Inside the shrine, in the prayer room, were five large Buddha statues and each wall in the room was occupied with images of small carved Buddha s; both female and male. Along the left side of the five Buddha s, was an image of Male Buddha and on the right side was an image of Female Buddha. I also noticed that people took off their shoes at the door before they entered. We start to see that there are some unanswered questions throughout the entire story, and even with the surprise ending it still leaves us with a lot of questions that need to be answered. Since the narrator didn t give that much of a backstory regarding Miss Emily, we must come up with theories and conclusions to answer our own questions. First, we see that Miss Emily is mysterious even from the very beginning because the narrator talks about how her house used to be, white, decorated with cupolas, and spires, and scrolled balconies . By the way the narrator describes her house it seems that it used to be very beautiful and full of life, but now the, garages and cotton gins had encroached and obliterated . Until this day Indigenous women have not had their voices heard or their knowledge recognised (Kildea, 2006). Durey and Thompson (2012) explain that the act of balancing quality care and organisation efficiency means that minimal resources are allocated to providing and improving appropriate Indigenous health care. Unfortunately, this is a factor in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women avoiding culturally unsafe care and aggravates the vicious cycle that leads to poor maternal and perinatal outcomes (Kruske, Kildea Barclay, 2006). One of the recommendations made by the Close the Gap campaign involves increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care workers (Kelly et al., 2014). It is thought that doing this will encourage more Indigenous Australians to attend health care services and also promote cultural safety therefore improving health outcomes for the Indigenous population (Kelly et al., 2014; Kildea, Kruske, Barclay Tracy, 2010). Increasing the number of trained Indigenous health care professionals will require the support of institutions such as universities, health services and organisations responsible for the distribution of scholarship funds (Kelly et al., 2014; Sherwood, 2013; Kildea, Kruske, Barclay Tracy, 2010). • 46. A Study Of Microbial Theory Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the advent of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of microbial community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying fundamental ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer, Ferrenberg, Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in contrast with the complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish and test fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup, Kassen, Forde, et al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing simple community properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or taxonomic overlap (Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species inventories and abundance data towards understanding species interactions using a network approach, allowing us to characterize the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community common to all subjects of our study. • 48. Baroque Art And Art The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture, and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721, stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). • 50. What Is The Theme Of Colonialism In Balzac And The Little... There are often mixed feelings in Western nations regarding colonization; if it hadn t been practiced, nations such as the United States and Canada wouldn t exist, nor would the prosperity present in many European nations. In the places subjugated during colonization, however, there is one, unequivocal response to the practice: absolutely not. A prime example of this is found in 1970 s China, during which a Cultural Revolution took place as a response to the punctuation of Western ideas into the East. Dai Sijie s Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress takes place during this event, following two city boys, named Luo and a narrator unnamed, who have been consistently exposed to Western ideas in their backgrounds, but then are taken to rural China for re education, introducing a different side of culture, previously unknown to the boys. This sudden clash sees the narrator often conflicted over the differing ideals of his home culture, often defined by its collectivism, and the culture he grew up with, which values the expression of individuality. As time passes upon his home during his re education, Phoenix Mountain, he ultimately arrives at a resolution that independence is more valuable than the collectivist bonds so often present in China. The first way this cultural learning is made clear is through the repeated incidences of the narrator s exposure to raw culture. What can be expected, however, after being stirpped away from the city and thrown into rural China, even for a native? One of the first demonstrations of the cultural differences incurred by mere miles comes with the narrator s and Luo s arrival upon Phoenix Mountain. All of their possessions are searched in the very beginning so as to determine if they are approved by the Communist Party and Chairman Mao; when they discover the narrator s violin, their initial impression is that it s a toy. Upon hearing the head man declare the instrument a toy, the narrator describes he and Luo as speechless (Sijie 4) and that they exchanged furtive, anxious glances, (Sijie 4) going further to say that Things were not looking good (Sijie 4).
