Explain The Four Stages Of Estrous Cycle
Estrus is the period of sexual receptivity for a female animal. The estrous cycle has four stages:
proestrus, estrus, metestrus, and diestrus. Proestrus is the first stage, and lasts approximately three
days. During this stage of estrus, follicle growth begins due to the decrease in progesterone and
increase in follicle stimulating hormone and estrogen. The corpus luteum is disintegrated, and the
endometrium(the uterine lining) begins developing. After proestrus, is estrus, which lasts
approximately twelve to eighteen hours. Estrus is the time when animals are considered to be in
heat . The female animal shows signs of behavioral estrus (standing to be mounted, mounting others,
frequent urination, a winking vulva, and the occasional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It stimulates follicular development and estrogen synthesis. It sends a positive feedback to the
ovaries. Estrogen originates from the granulosa cells in the follicle. It regulates gonadotropin
releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone, and follicle stimulating hormone, and also increases
sexual behavior. Estrogen sends a positive feedback to the surge center in he hypothalamus.
Prostaglandin F2 alpha originates from the uterus endometrium. It destroys the corpus luteum and
causes contractions in the uterus, as well as abortion. Progesterone originates from the corpus
luteum/placenta. It maintains pregnancy, inhibits gonadotropin releasing hormone, and also
prevents estrus and ovulation. Progesterone sends a negative feedback to the hypothalamus. Thanks
to the six main hormones gonadotropin releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating
hormone, estrogen, prostaglandin F2 alpha, and progesterone female animals go through the period
of sexual receptivity called estrus. The estrous cycle has four cycles: proestrus, estrus, metestrus,
and diestrus. All species of animals must go through the estrous cycle in order to

Evaluating the Consultation and Education Department Research Paper
Heather Sanchez
University of Phoenix
June 17, 2011
The Greenby Mental Health Center funding has been cut back. The cut back in funding has caused
the organization to look at possibly doing away with their consultation and education department.
This paper will describe at least one process evaluation measure and at least one outcome evaluation
measure that could be suggested for the Consultation and Education Department at Greenby
Community Mental Health Center to display the program effectiveness and efficiency. The paper
will also explain the scope and purpose of the chosen process evaluation and outcome evaluation
measures and how they influence the design. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Reh, 2011) Cost/benefit analysis is a possible suggestion because the Consultation and Education
Department director can argue that the benefit of the program far outweighs the cost of the
program. The Consultation and Education department draw clients in and a large majority of these
clients go on to participate in the larger, more funding drawing, programs. So if the department is
done away with, client numbers may decrease and other programs may suffer. Outcomes evaluation
is often described first by looking at its basic components. Outcomes evaluation looks at programs
as systems that have inputs, activities/processes, outputs and outcomes this system s view is useful
in examining any program! * Inputs
These are materials and resources that the program uses in its activities, or processes, to serve
clients, equipment, staff, volunteers, facilities, money, etc. These are often easy to identify and
many of the inputs seem common to many organizations and programs. * Activities
These are the activities, or processes, that the program undertakes with/to the client in order to meet
the clients needs, for example, teaching, counseling, sheltering, feeding, clothing, etc. Note that
when identifying the activities in a program, the focus is still pretty much on the organization or
program itself, and still is not so much on actual changes

The Problems Of Farmed Salmon
In recent years Pacific salmon have felt the true burdens of the aquaculture productions of farmed
salmon in the natural rivers that have hosted these salmon for centuries. Salmon farming has been
on the rise since the early 1990s and over these twenty five years, it has put an immense amount of
pressure on the wild salmonpopulation and their ability to spawn. These negative impacts can be
directly link to numerous problems with farmed salmon, which includes the pollution and
contamination they produce to nearby water sources. Next, is the dilemma that farmed Salmon
have is the negative affect they have on migrating wild Salmon. Their interaction can causes
diseases to spread to wild pacific salmon while they swim close to the farms during their seasonal
runs. Another major concern with disturbance is the interbreeding between farmed salmon and
wild salmon. The final problem, is the health risks that are associated with consuming higher
concentrations of possible toxic and carcinogenic contaminant often found in farmed salmon meat.
The act of raising salmon in a aquacultureenvironment can be detrimental to the ecosystem and
humans of BC, because of the pollution, contamination, disturbance farmed salmon have on wild
salmon and more importantly, the health risks aquaculture has on humans. Pollution and
contamination from farmed salmon imposed on their wild salmon counterparts is the largest and
most destructive aspect of their coexistence in British Columbia Pacific Ocean.

The Problem For The Nhs
A nurse said to me recently that the main problem for the NHS is Holby City; oh I think she meant
obesity.
Yes, the ban leaves a bitter taste in my mouth... even though... In July, I was targeted by a sugary
drink, it bombed me from a great height, it landed a couple of feet away, like a cluster bomb I was
covered; alas I recall the stickiness was decidedly vile. I turned the air blue in response... how I hate
sugary drinks. I suspect a sugar addicted fiend was the culprit; high as a kite no doubt. Maybe Tesco
s marketing team were subjected to a summer of sugar y attacks by spotty yobs who sugar rushed
about on sugar powered scooters. How I long for the days when our future generation simply

Ambiguity In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Literary translation seeks to recreate an original work in a new language using the tools available in
the target language. In order to recreate a story, the translator must first interpret its meaning. This
proves to be a challenge as the nature of literary works is such that they often lend themselves to
multiple interpretations, either due to deliberate or unintentional ambiguity in the text. In the case
of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author crafted a complex story filled with
ambiguity. What are, then, translators to do when faced with the momentous task of translating an
important piece of American literature like Young Goodman Brown? They must undoubtedly turn
to literary criticism, which seeks to produce in depth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the translator is unaware of the multifunctionality of the name, he or she will not be able to
recreate it in the target text. If Goodman is kept in the original English, the target audience might
perceive it as a first name. Furthermore, the repetition of the word good in the language
understood by the reader will be lost, and so the irony will not be reinforced every time the word
Goodman is encountered. In Spanish, for example, translating Goodman as buen hombre (good
man), which is a form of address used for a kind and honest man, would allow the character to be
every man, as he would bear no first name. Furthermore, by allowing readers to have access to the
repetition of the word good in their language, they are being granted the opportunity to find the
sense of irony for themselves.
The Puritan preoccupation with Good and Evil manifested itself in the religion s condemnation of
witchcraft. Hawthorne uses uncountable references to witchcraft and its association with sexuality,
debauchery and carnal abandon (Hoffman 163). One example of sexual imagery comes from the
speech of the sable figure leading the witch s sabbath in the forest. The figure uses the words bed
chamber, stain, blood, penetrate, bosom, and sin to talk about man s evil

Substance And Substance Abuse Among Inmates
Substance Abuse among Inmates
Substance abuse can be a big problem in our criminal justice system when dealing with the
number of inmates who go back to their illegal activity after being released from custody. In
specific, inmates who are drug users/ abusers are to be expected to go back to drugs once they get
out. Without treatment they do not have the tools, knowledge, or resources to stay clean on the
outside when released. The biggest hazard for an ex inmate in the community is getting back to
their old life, old friends, old contacts, and old drugs. To understand why these substance abusers
are the way they are, there must be a clear emphasis on how these substances first evolved and
where they originally came from. Focusing on substance abuse among inmates at the federal and
state prison can be extremely different when in custody and the programs and treatment that is
provided in these prisons can really have a great effect on these offenders when being released
back into the community. Substance abuse can range from a small marijuana problem to a severe
heroin addiction. Substance abuse is defined as overindulgence in or dependence on an addictive
substance, especially alcohol or drugs. This is a huge issue in our society today and has been since
dated back to the earliest age of 1794 otherwise known as the 17th century. Alcohol was the first
substance that was allowed to be of consumption. Alcohol was the first substance that was
represented in American

Essential Security Protocol Verification Techniques
COMPUTER SECURITY
INTRODUCTION
This paper is going to look at two essential security protocol verification techniques namely:
i.Strand Space Protocol Analyser. ii. NRL Protocol Analyser.
The structure and operation of each protocol will be discussed. Usage, strengths and weaknesses,
problems and issues, pros and cons will all be highlighted. Finally, a comparison of the two
protocols will be conducted to justify the selection of a preferred security protocol verification.
Strand Space Protocol
Strand space protocol is a framework model for designing and verification of cryptographic
protocols. It is considered to be a local behavior of a single session of a particular protocol. The
strand space model operates on two additions for a fair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Standard Strands use a trusted agent from the network server to represent the protocol performance
[1].
The Strand space protocol model uses a rank function technique to mark traces the entire network
Weaknesses
The strand spaces protocol model can provide other with a scope of the cryptosystem possible keys
[8].
The Strand space protocol model is basically designed from a set of mathematical model equations
[7].
Advantages
It is designed with cryptographic protocol programming language that makes it work efficiently
with cryptographic protocols network [7].
It can support an intelligent fair exchange protocol between state and state change [1].
Analysis of attacks can be done in an efficient way with the strand space protocol analyzer model
[8].
The Strand space protocol model can provide a strong mechanism to obstruct potential attacks
within the cryptosystems networks [1].
The Strand Space protocol model is equipped with rank function capabilities that can verify the
activities of adversaries from its initial state [5].
Disadvantages
The disadvantage of this protocol model is the use of standard signatures with short notations to
retrieve an unsuccessful operation [7].
NRL Protocol Analyzer
The NRL protocol analyzer is designed and developed with prolog Language. It is a verification
tool used for special purposes. The NRL protocol analyzer is a protocol that can support a

Anti-Semitism In Ww2
Desmond Tutu once said, if you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the
oppressor. The United States of America knew about the atrocities being committed in World War
II, and still did nothing. America is complicit in the deaths of all those we turned away. When the
St. Louis brought us Germany s huddled masses yearning to breathe free, we turned away, dooming
so many souls on that ship. But why? Are we not a nation created by immigrants fleeing
persecution? The cold, hard truth of the matter is that the United Stateslet six million people die
because of institutionalized anti semitism, which impacted the economic crisis and isolationist
policy within the government.
In 1883 Emma Lazarus wrote upon the Statue of Liberty give me your tired, your poor, your
huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Apparently, in the 1930s, unless they re Jewswas added in
fine print. Of course, anti semitism in the United States was nothing new, especially in cities.
Jewish people were banned from hotels, businesses, and even beaches. It was perfectly legal for
someone to be fired because he or she was Jewish. That is why, when Hitler came to power,
America did not even flinch. In fact, many Americans rallied behind his intense nationalist policies.

The Role of U.S. Customs and Border Protection
THE ROLE OF U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION The U.S. Customs and Border
Protection (U.S. CBP) is one of the oldest law enforcement entities in the U.S., and has a rich
history of protecting our borders. A historical overview and understanding of the U.S. Customs
origins displays how over the centuries the strategic mission of the CBP has evolved to combat
threats of specific time eras. U.S. Customs has grown from collecting of revenue during the 1800s
to fighting the War on Drugs, and well into the 21st century where combating terrorism would be
yet another mission undertaken by CBP. Without a doubt, the U.S. Customs Service has played an
active role in the protection of the nation s borders against terrorism, criminal drug lords, and even
the violation of intellectual property theft. Origins of the U.S. Customs Service The U.S. Customs
was not officially established until the 1780s. Originally, right after the American Revolutionary
War, many American s were weary of federal government s control and involvement. For this very
reason many American States would proceed and hire their own customs agents collecting revenue
for the states and not federal government. It would not be until 1787 the Abortive Impost Bill would
officially be a law at the Constitutional Convention. These new federal customs agents would now
be tasked with enforcing revenue laws. Interestingly, Customs would be the largest agency besides
the Continental Army, and had a low rate of

We Already Know That Self Discipline Is Important, But
We already know that self discipline is important, but do we really need it?
We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us
to success, so why do we need self discipline?
We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us wantsuccessful relationships, some like
to get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with
less weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The
general question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these
goals?
The general answer is: Lack of self discipline.

The two can not be achieved in the same time, in most cases.
Our lives are full of temptations: we have TVs, good food, chocolates, video games... etc. These
temptations makes it harder for us to resist having more fun and thus we neglect the more
important goals in our lives. Almost all of us want to have a slim figure, but with these
temptations around us almost all of the time, we lose that goal of a slim figure. Almost all of us
want to make more money, but it is not easy to resist, for example, discounted travel packages. In
these cases, we really need self discipline. It will allow us to focus on our goals and pursue them
until we reach success. With self discipline, we can exercise better control on our instant wishes.
It is the difference between what you feel and what you think.
It is the borderline between your heart and your brain.
You may want to eat that pizza which was shown on a TV commercial, but your self discipline
stops you because you have a goal of weight control, and in this process it allows you to succeed in
that goal.
It is an amazing resource for success. Actually, many experts believe that it is impossible to reach
success without it. According to Lou Holtz Without self discipline, success is impossible, period.
Research shows that entrepreneurs must have it in order to succeed in business. According Jerry

Attractive Returns For The Vc
Attractive Returns for the VC
In return for financing one to two years of a company s start up, venture capitalists expect a ten
times return of capital over five years. Combined with the preferred position, this is very high cost
capital: a loan with a 58% annual compound interest rate that cannot be prepaid. But that rate is
necessary to deliver average fund returns above 20%. Funds are structured to guarantee partners a
comfortable income while they work to generate those returns. The venture capital partners agree to
return all of the investors capital before sharing in the upside. However, the fund typically pays
for the investors annual operating budget 2% to 3% of the pool s total capital which they take as
a management fee regardless of the fund s results. If there is a $100 million pool and four or
five partners, for example, the partners are essentially assured salaries of $200,000 to $400,000
plus operating expenses for seven to ten years. (If the fund fails, of course, the group will be
unable to raise funds in the future.) Compare those figures with Tommy Davis and Arthur Rock s
first fund, which was $5 million but had a total management fee of only $75,000 a year.
The real upside lies in the appreciation of the portfolio. The investors get 70% to 80%of the gains;
the venture capitalists get the remaining 20% to 30%. The amount of money any partner receives
beyond salary is a function of the total growth of the portfolio s value and the amount of money

Characteristics Of Drunk Driving
Drunk Driving
Although situations differ and each person is unique, some common traits have been identified
among drunk drivers. In the study personality traits and mental health of severe drunk drivers in
Sweden , 162 Swedish DUI offenders of all ages were studied to find links in psychological factors
and characteristics. There are a wide variety of characteristics common among DUI offenders which
are discussed, including: anxiety, depression, inhibition, low assertiveness, neuroticism and
introversion . There is also a more specific personality type found, typically more antisocial,
among repeat DUI offenders. It is also common for offenders to use drinking as a coping
mechanism, not necessarily for social or enjoyment reasons, when they are antisocial in nature and
have a father with a history of alcoholism. Offenders who begin drinking at an earlier age for
thrills and fun are more likely to be antisocial later in their lives. The majority of the sample,
72%, came from what is considered more normal circumstances. This group was older when they
began drinking, came from families without a history of alcoholism, were relatively well behaved
as children, were not as physically and emotionally affected by alcohol when compared with the
rest of the study, and had the less emotional complications, such as anxiety and depression. The
smaller portion of the sample, 28%, comes from what is generally

Celebrities Role Models
They may be the best of the best but they can be the worst for kids. Celebrities are all around us.
It is hard for us to get away from them unless we were locked in an empty room. As soon as we
turn on the T.V. we see a celebrity. When we walk in a shop, we see pictures of celebrities on the
wall and even on some food items. There are many celebrities known for doing good acts like
donating or helping charities. But, there are some celebrities doing bad acts such as doing drugs.
There are also celebrities changing themselves not with the intent to change others. At the end,
celebrities can be considered positive and negative role models. The difference is that the

Celebrities have many things that most normal people don t have. One of those ways is how a

they will never be as attractive, thin, rich, or accomplished as the celebrities they vicariously

Some kids might really want to be like their favorite celebrity. That is not always the easiest thing.
That might make a kid depressed because they can t be like their role model. Another thing

will be focused on for being beautiful. According to Dorothy Briggs, the author of Your Child s

Harry Potter Alternate Ending
Mold ran along the edges of the old wooden staircase, spiderwebs in the corners and old nails
sticking through the low hanging ceiling. The same old shelf, with the same broken toys, not two

It was the cupboard under the stairs.

The Capote Character Analysis
Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the
murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that
all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though
taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver
inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously
formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt;
the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an
awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or
an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy
substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling
accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless
shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocenceof Bonnie, the dependability of
Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the
true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most
upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the
family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and
thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton.
Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed
during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed
Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended
and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it
would have to be burned.. [along with] blood soiled bedclothes, mattresses, a bedside rug, a Teddy
bear doll (Capote 78). These items, representing the larger whole of the Clutter property, symbolize
everything the Clutters were: the couch a stand in for work

The Change Clause In Government Contract Law
Contract clauses can cover many facets of commercial and business interests; whether it be
government or civilian and can take on various forms. Contract clauses are enforceable under
federal and state laws as well as any other part of a contract. Out of all the general clauses confined
in Government contracts, the Change Clause would seem to be the most important. It stands in the
focus of the contractual arrangement with other clauses denoting to and borrowing its basic
practice as some usual way of doing things. By advantage of this clause, the Government is
permitted unilaterally to alter the contract and hold the contractor to perform under the unilaterally
changed contract. It is this important departure from the old concept of mutuality, with its pointed
inferences on the non governmental party, that sets the Government contract different from the
standard commercial contract. Incidentally, this rare arrangement is altogether to the disadvantage
of the contractor. The Changes clause affords for an equitable compensation, if it is fitting.

The Pros And Cons Of African American Vernacular English
African American vernacular English has been frowned upon since its very beginning due to the
oppressors thinking of it as improper. June Jordan thought the very same thing when she spoke up
about it in Nobody Mean More to Me Than You and stated ...white standards of English persis,
supreme and unquestioned, in these United States. Despite our multilingual population, and
despite the deepening Black white cleavage within that conglomerate, white standards control
our official and popular judgements of verbal proficiency and correct, or incorrect, language
skills, including speech. That being said, standard English is found to be more appropriate to
write a formal letter or article of great importance, than vernacular English because it will reach
out to a greater audience and will be interpreted much better. There are pros and cons when it
comes to whether or not one should speak in either vernacular or standard English with one of
those being the location and environment are two major considerations. Sadly, that is what it has
all come down to and it is noted by June Jordan ...as an endangered species... meaning it is rather
difficult to find people that speak vernacular English, nowadays, without conforming themselves to
the oppressor s ways. Her statement is agreeable in the sense that slaves were brought to the United
States not knowing the language and were forced to learn, what they called, the oppressor s
language. They might have been stripped of their

Similarities Between Richard III And The Grand Inquisitor
Even though William Shakespeare s Richard III and Fyodor Dostoevsky s The Grand Inquisitor
depict both title characters as strong men who manipulate those surrounding them, both men
have different interests which drive them to act. While Richard III utilizes his wit to deceive
people and claim the throne of England, the Grand Inquisitor acts to provide security for
mankind by imposing the new directive of the Church, one forcing people to surrender freedom
for safety. With such motives, both characters act to ensure their domination over those who are
weak and therefore must comply with their ideas to control all. Although Richard recognizes that
his actions are villainous, the Grand Inquisitor believes that his doings will benefit humanity. In
the beginning of the play, Richard describes his hatred of the current peacetime present in
England. Since peace now exists between the houses of York and Lancaster with Richard s
brother Edward IV on the throne, Richard cannot utilize his battle skills, and grows bored. As a
result, his boredom drives him to create chaos, which he mentions when he tells the audience that
since I cannot prove a lover to entertain these fair well spoken days, I am determinГЁd to prove a
villain and hate the idle pleasures of these days (1.1.28 31) . With such a desire for chaos, Richard

Physical Value in Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn Essay
Physical Value in Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn
The poetry of John Keats contains many references to physical things, from nightingales to gold
and silver garnished things, and a casual reader might be tempted to accept these at face value, as
simple physical objects meant to evoke a response either sensual or emotional; however, this is not
the case. Keats, in the poem Ode Upon a Grecian Urn, turns the traditional understanding of
physical objects on its head, and uses them not solid tangible articles, but instead as metaphors for
and connections to abstract concepts, such as truth and eternity.
In the poem, Keats dismisses the value of physical things as only corporeal for what he feels is
more substantial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is the metaphysical truth then, that Keats seeks to connect to the physical beauty of the
Grecian urn? Webster defines truth as Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that
which is, or has been; or shall be. ; another description, more Romantic and fitting to Keats, is
Bertrand Russell s:
Truth is a shining goddess, always veiled, always distant, never wholly approachable, but worthy of
all the devotion of which the human spirit is capable. . Keats is essentially saying through the urn
that truth, the conforming to facts, is the exact same thing as physical beauty; beauty is a factual
attribute of an object.
An analysis of the text, searching for connections between the abstract and the tangible, would do
much to elucidate this matter. The poem is broken into five parts.
The first section opens with a description of the urn as a bride, a foster child, a historian. All these
personifications are subtle linkings of the abstract actions related to those roles which Keats
assigns to the concrete object, the urn. He then further reinforces this subtle link with a series of
observations on what is painted on the urn. What men or gods are these? What maidens loath?
/ What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape? / What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy? (lines

Does Chivalry Live Today?
In current society people are becoming more impatient, disrespectful, and self centered. While this
self centered attitude may fulfill immediate needs, long term consequences of this lifestyle can
lead to the erosion of society. The problem is that younger generations are adopting this new
lifestyle where they become more selfish and rude. Thus, everyone around them becomes selfish,
and, as a result, society as a whole loses chivalry. Some people say chivalry is dead, however,
practicing chivalrous acts every day can help prevent this egocentrism and keep this quintessential
trait alive. There are many examples of how the lack of chivalry is eroding society. For example,
today there is a general accepted lack of respect today including race and authority figures. Lately

The Walking Dead represents fear, betrayal, sacrifice, hope, leadership and, the conflict between
good and bad. Fear, the main theme of the show, followed by sacrifice is portrayed in every
episode where everyone fears where are they going to end the next day, where they find
themselves questioning if that is their last day, scared of losing a loved one and of course, the
fear of being eaten by walkers . Sacrifice, portrayed at its highest, on life or death situations
where every character feels torn between two options that may affect someone in one way or
another, as well when someone will die for the safety of others. Betrayal, one of the most
repetitive themes in the show that represents what will a person do to save himself/herself in a
life or death situation, and in this case, each character try to build up alliances that at the end,
they betray their own, which could lead to someone dying or getting hurt, depending on the
situation. Leadership and hope can be put together since in the show, the main thing that a leader
should do is give his/her followers hope that everything can get better, and the show portrays it
every time Rick Grimes try to take matters on his hands for his group, considered as his family,

Sight And Blind Sight
People generally do not realize what they have until they no longer have it, and sight is one of
those things that is overlooked. People are so unaware of their sight that they do not realize
everyone has a blind spot. However, this is not people s fault, as the brain is to blame for this
lack of awareness regarding sight and blind spots. The blind spot, where the optic disk resides, is
located at the back of the eye, where there are no cones or rods that detect light (photon) stimuli
(Watson, N. V., Breedlove, S. M. 2016). Consequently, blindsight is hard to detect in those who

some, instead of synapsing at the LGN, end at other brain regions, such as the hypothalamus, the
pretectum, and the superior colliculus (Watson, N. V., Breedlove, S. M. 2016). These secondary
signals are a part of the visual system that does not involve cognitive vision. Since V1 is the
main area for cognitive vision, damage to this area is what has been found to cause what we
now call blindsight (de Gelder, B. 2010). Moreover, blindsight, which used to be known as
residual vision, has been studied and defined as a person who cannot cognitively see, but is still
able to detect objects subconsciously with their secondary visual locations. In the study of the
person known as LN, the subject was still able to avoid objects when walking through a hall with
obstructions in his path, although he was reported to be incapable of seeing. This remarkable
behavior is associated to the superior colliculus, which is part of the visual system, but is not
active in cognitive vision. There are also other properties associated with blindsight, including
lines, simple shapes, movement, color, the orientation of a line, and emotion (de Gelder, B. 2010).

How Did Cornelius Vanderbilt Impact On America
Law! What do I care about the law? Ain t I got power? . When Cornelius said this he meant that
he could pretty much be meant that he was so rich he could overrule the authority. Cornelius
Commodore Vanderbilt was one one of the first tycoons ever. Cornelius ended up being one of
the richest people in the world of his modern era. When Cornelius died, he was worth 100
million dollars. Cornelius made a huge social impact by making the track gauge, laying train
track rails all around the USA and was one the first people to make monopolies. Cornelius

Application Paper
Application Paper The social penetration theory is a theory composed by Altman and Taylor in
which people are compared to onions. This may seem like an absurd comparison, but when
explored more deeply it makes quite a bit of sense. The social penetration theory is a description
of the multi layered nature of people s personalities. As the outer skin of an onion is peeled away
another layer is found beneath it, and if you remove that layer you will expose another layer,
and so forth. The same holds true for people; as we get to know someone better we expose more
layers of their personality and hence become closer to the core of the individual, or the private self
The outer layers of our personality is the public self, or characteristics... Show more content on

How do we know when to disclose ourselves and when not to? According to Jourard a person is
more likely to self disclose when he believes that his audience is of good will, or someone with
an attitude of love and trust. Now we must ask a question as to how much one should disclose to
people? The breadth and depth of self disclosure is determined by the degree of intimacy a person
wants to achieve, with another. This theory claims that peripheral (public) items are exchanged
more frequently and sooner than private information. This usually happens in the beginning of a
relationship when it is still on a more impersonal and superficial level. According to one study,
only about 2 percent of people disclosed intimate details about themselves during this level of the
relationship, the majority of talk between two individuals on this level was about public items, or
worldly experiences they both knew about. Self disclosure is reciprocal during the beginning stages
of developing a relationship. New acquaintances generally achieve equal levels of openness,
perhaps due to the vulnerability of both people knowing nothing about the other. Instant intimacy
usually does not happen with people, it is something that both parties must strive for in order to
attain. At the beginning of a relationship penetration is usually fast, but as the layers of personality
are revealed, it slows

How Do Humans Affect Polar Bears
The Polar bear lives in the artic and uses the area s costal waters and ice sheets. They are well
equipped to live in this environment because they have a thick coat which serves as an insulator.
They mainly prey on seals but have also been known to consume dead whales. They can grow to
be 7.25 to 8 feet tall and can weigh around 900 to 1,600 pounds. Polar bears are a keystone
species, if their numbers decrease there is a possibility that the seal populations will increase

A Review Of Bywater s Essay Surfing
Bywater is a professor at Dixie State University, He teaches expository english and has his way of
doing so. On every Tuesday of the semester a printed draft is to be brought into class for class
evaluation and on Thursday the final draft is due. On Thursday Bywater gives the topic for the next

level structuring includes level one, two, and three sentences. These sentence levels make up the
compound, complex, and complex compound sentences. The way the papershould be set up is
introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusions. Conclusions should give a sense of closure. Slowly

My Writing That I Did Not Know Before
Over the course of this class I have learned many things about writing that I did not know before,
because I never had any great instruction before i came to college. In Grade school and high
school, when I got back a graded paper there would just be words crossed out, or punctuation
corrections. There would never be any explanation as to why I need to correct this, or why this
is wrong. I would go over the corrections and wonder how this is wrong and why does a comma
go there but why doesn t a comma go here. When reading the corrections and notes you made on
each of my papers this year, I more easily understood why something was wrong. I might not have
made the same corrections in the next paper, but each paper I got back I understood what was
wrong, and what I needed to do to correct it. I think I understood more about writingwith each
paper that I wrote this year. I might not have shown it with each paper because I seem to always
make the same errors. I always get mixed up when using singular and plural nouns, using the
same adjective throughout the paper, and not being descriptive. I knew after you made the
corrections why something is wrong, but I never seemed to make the corrections myself, because
I have a habit of making those same mistakes, and because it sounds like it is right to me because
I speak that way myself. Those errors I made in each of my papers seemed to be right at the time
of me writing them, but when you pointed them out to me after giving back

This essay seeks to discuss the statement of The criminal justice system is failing children and
young offenders in the UK by considering both whether our justice system is delivering the
overhaul of the youth justice systems aims of
Providing the criminal justice system with an appropriate selection of sentencing choices and
focusing any sentencing on preventing re offending by stopping the vicious cycle young offenders
tend to fall into. This report will also discuss the widely shared opinion that our justice system is
severely inadequate for UK s young people therefore failing to rehabilitate young offenders and
strongly promote and enforce restorative justice as Sir Alan Beth MP (The Chair of the Youth
Justice Committee) intends to. According to UK Governments official crime rate stats, In 2015
there were around 950,000 arrests made in England and Wales, of which 94,960 were of people
aged 10 17 years. This immediately shows how obligatory it is for our system to be constructive
for young offenders and therefore advantageous for society in decreasing crime rates within young
people.
UK Criminal Justice System : subsection 1 : the importance of the Youth justice system.
The Uk s youth justice system can be criticised for being to lenient on young offenders as the UK
beholds many laws that ban any physical / mental abuse towards the offenders and human rights
that prevent any in humane living conditions other offenders in the world may face such as in places

According to XX, common causes of epigastric tenderness include; gastritis, esophagitis,
esophageal spasms, epigastric hernia, GERD, peptic ulcer disease, with or without bleeding,
pancreatitis and hiatal hernia. A gastric ulcer is an ulceration or breakdown in the stomach or
duodenal lining. The symptoms of a gastric ulcer include dull and burning recurrent abdominal
pain in the epigastric region which can be exacerbated by food. Antacids or milk may relieve the
pain. In the additional history, it states that the patient describes his pain as burning. The
epigastric pain is relieved by eating, especially drinking milk, but returns two hours after eating.
In this case scenario, food intake, especially milk is a relieving factor, not an exacerbating factor.
The patient history states he denies early satiety, anorexia or weight loss. He states he has had
dyspepsia in the past, but his present symptoms are much worse. The factors that damage the
gastric mucosal barrier include use of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cigarette
smoking, glucocorticoids, H. Pylori, alcohol consumption and stress. The patient states he has
been taking an NSAID (Tylenol) for two months due to a knee injury. He smokes a pack a day,
drinking three mixed drinks a day and has increased stress due to a recent job change. .So, he has

innovations can help with operations and even with control factors over the company. There are
many different forces that JNJ needs to be aware of. They need to be able to take full advantage of
the opportunities and prepare for the threats to maximize competitive advantage knowing the
different trends. Potential development of substitute products Competitive Analysis Porter s Five

consumers Potential entry of new competitors Potential development of substitute products The
existence of products outside of the realm of the common product boundaries increases the
propensity of customers to switch to alternatives. Since pharmaceutical and medical devices are
necessary for the maintenance of good health, a significant decrease in use is not likely. The largest
threat of substitutes comes from generic pharmaceuticals. Once a drug loses patent protection,
associated revenue usually rapidly falls. One way to mitigate the effect of generic drugs would be
to develop more compounds with lower sales, perhaps by targeting more precise conditions. A
similar threat of substitutes is

My Adulthood Memories And Memories Of A Childhood Home
Places are more than less often full of memories. Rooms have narratives that can be told through the
items and furniture they contain. These narratives are often overlooked and not thought about,
especially in places where one does not want to spend a particularly large amount of time. Rooms
speak, even though we often don t want to listen, or don t want to know. Basements are often like
this, full of broken thing and memories, knee deep castaways, childhood toys and holiday lights.
The basementin my childhood home is this way, completely divided into then and now; simply,
entirely, depressing. This room is split into two distinct halves. The stairs are creaky and off
white, stained grey and black from soda spills, muddy shoes, snow slush and dirty dog feet.
Clumps of dog hair sit in the corners of each step, wrapped up into dust balls. At the bottom, to
the immediate left, is where a playroom used to be. There are drawings and old bits of paper
stuck up on the walls, hinting as to what this space used to contain. Now, a large, professional
grade ping pong table sits in the middle of the room. Once loved, the table is now stacked high
with towels and laundry. On the wallparallel to the length of the table is a child s growth chart,
drawn in Sharpie on the rigid wall that ruined many a marker tip. Starting in June 2004 and ending

In short but very long buildings, there are many damaging effects during earthquake shaking. And,
in large plan area buildings like warehouses, the horizontal seismic forces can be much more to be
carried by columns and walls.
Horizontal Layout of Buildings
In short, the simple geometry buildings have performed better during the earthquakes. Buildings
with re entrant corners, such as those U, V, H and + shaped in plan, have been able to sustain
significant damage. Many times, the bad effects of earthquakes can be avoided by making the
buildings in two parts. Like, an L shaped plan can be divided into two rectangular plan shapes using
a partition point at the junction. At times, the plan of buildings is simple, but the columns/walls are
not equally distributed. Such buildings tend to twist during earthquake or shaking.

Driving Age Change
When someone wants to get clean from doing drugs there is always a withdrawal period. To get to
that withdrawal period the person must stop taking the drug they have been on. Whether the person
quits in a day or three months later, that person would still have to go through that withdrawal
period. This is similar to a teen starting to drive for the first time. The reasons why I think that the
drivingage limit shouldn t be changed is because people can still, get around the rules by waiting
until the age of eighteen to avoid the restrictions, the number of driver fatalities are decreasing
majorly, and because the number of crashes wouldn t diminish it would only put off the effect. For
instance, Delaying something from starting (much like the drug addict getting clean) won t change
much of anything (unless learned more about the subject of matter). Quoted from the Informational

  • 2. Explain The Four Stages Of Estrous Cycle Estrus is the period of sexual receptivity for a female animal. The estrous cycle has four stages: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, and diestrus. Proestrus is the first stage, and lasts approximately three days. During this stage of estrus, follicle growth begins due to the decrease in progesterone and increase in follicle stimulating hormone and estrogen. The corpus luteum is disintegrated, and the endometrium(the uterine lining) begins developing. After proestrus, is estrus, which lasts approximately twelve to eighteen hours. Estrus is the time when animals are considered to be in heat . The female animal shows signs of behavioral estrus (standing to be mounted, mounting others, frequent urination, a winking vulva, and the occasional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It stimulates follicular development and estrogen synthesis. It sends a positive feedback to the ovaries. Estrogen originates from the granulosa cells in the follicle. It regulates gonadotropin releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone, and follicle stimulating hormone, and also increases sexual behavior. Estrogen sends a positive feedback to the surge center in he hypothalamus. Prostaglandin F2 alpha originates from the uterus endometrium. It destroys the corpus luteum and causes contractions in the uterus, as well as abortion. Progesterone originates from the corpus luteum/placenta. It maintains pregnancy, inhibits gonadotropin releasing hormone, and also prevents estrus and ovulation. Progesterone sends a negative feedback to the hypothalamus. Thanks to the six main hormones gonadotropin releasing hormone, luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, estrogen, prostaglandin F2 alpha, and progesterone female animals go through the period of sexual receptivity called estrus. The estrous cycle has four cycles: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, and diestrus. All species of animals must go through the estrous cycle in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluating the Consultation and Education Department Research Paper Heather Sanchez University of Phoenix June 17, 2011 The Greenby Mental Health Center funding has been cut back. The cut back in funding has caused the organization to look at possibly doing away with their consultation and education department. This paper will describe at least one process evaluation measure and at least one outcome evaluation measure that could be suggested for the Consultation and Education Department at Greenby Community Mental Health Center to display the program effectiveness and efficiency. The paper will also explain the scope and purpose of the chosen process evaluation and outcome evaluation measures and how they influence the design. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Reh, 2011) Cost/benefit analysis is a possible suggestion because the Consultation and Education Department director can argue that the benefit of the program far outweighs the cost of the program. The Consultation and Education department draw clients in and a large majority of these clients go on to participate in the larger, more funding drawing, programs. So if the department is done away with, client numbers may decrease and other programs may suffer. Outcomes evaluation is often described first by looking at its basic components. Outcomes evaluation looks at programs as systems that have inputs, activities/processes, outputs and outcomes this system s view is useful in examining any program! * Inputs These are materials and resources that the program uses in its activities, or processes, to serve clients, equipment, staff, volunteers, facilities, money, etc. These are often easy to identify and many of the inputs seem common to many organizations and programs. * Activities These are the activities, or processes, that the program undertakes with/to the client in order to meet the clients needs, for example, teaching, counseling, sheltering, feeding, clothing, etc. Note that when identifying the activities in a program, the focus is still pretty much on the organization or program itself, and still is not so much on actual changes ... Salmon farming has been on the rise since the early 1990s and over these twenty five years, it has put an immense amount of pressure on the wild salmonpopulation and their ability to spawn. These negative impacts can be directly link to numerous problems with farmed salmon, which includes the pollution and contamination they produce to nearby water sources. Next, is the dilemma that farmed Salmon have is the negative affect they have on migrating wild Salmon. Their interaction can causes diseases to spread to wild pacific salmon while they swim close to the farms during their seasonal runs. Another major concern with disturbance is the interbreeding between farmed salmon and wild salmon. The final problem, is the health risks that are associated with consuming higher concentrations of possible toxic and carcinogenic contaminant often found in farmed salmon meat. The act of raising salmon in a aquacultureenvironment can be detrimental to the ecosystem and humans of BC, because of the pollution, contamination, disturbance farmed salmon have on wild salmon and more importantly, the health risks aquaculture has on humans. • 7. The Problem For The Nhs A nurse said to me recently that the main problem for the NHS is Holby City; oh I think she meant obesity. Yes, the ban leaves a bitter taste in my mouth... even though... In July, I was targeted by a sugary drink, it bombed me from a great height, it landed a couple of feet away, like a cluster bomb I was covered; alas I recall the stickiness was decidedly vile. I turned the air blue in response... how I hate sugary drinks. I suspect a sugar addicted fiend was the culprit; high as a kite no doubt. Maybe Tesco s marketing team were subjected to a summer of sugar y attacks by spotty yobs who sugar rushed about on sugar powered scooters. How I long for the days when our future generation simply chillaxd on Morrissey or were semi comatose on smoking weeds from the wastelands: yeeah, zis is mean man; tastes of bonfire. 43 Tesco stores have closed this past year on the back of fraudulent financing projections, designed to dupe shareholders and investors. You could denote that the brand has been forced to restructure of unprecedented proportions going into 2016 therefore offering an ethical feel good kick for their consumers i.e. ban sugary drinks due to UK s obesity conundrum. • 8. Ambiguity In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown Literary translation seeks to recreate an original work in a new language using the tools available in the target language. In order to recreate a story, the translator must first interpret its meaning. This proves to be a challenge as the nature of literary works is such that they often lend themselves to multiple interpretations, either due to deliberate or unintentional ambiguity in the text. In the case of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author crafted a complex story filled with ambiguity. What are, then, translators to do when faced with the momentous task of translating an important piece of American literature like Young Goodman Brown? They must undoubtedly turn to literary criticism, which seeks to produce in depth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the translator is unaware of the multifunctionality of the name, he or she will not be able to recreate it in the target text. If Goodman is kept in the original English, the target audience might perceive it as a first name. Furthermore, the repetition of the word good in the language understood by the reader will be lost, and so the irony will not be reinforced every time the word Goodman is encountered. In Spanish, for example, translating Goodman as buen hombre (good man), which is a form of address used for a kind and honest man, would allow the character to be every man, as he would bear no first name. Furthermore, by allowing readers to have access to the repetition of the word good in their language, they are being granted the opportunity to find the sense of irony for themselves. The Puritan preoccupation with Good and Evil manifested itself in the religion s condemnation of witchcraft. Hawthorne uses uncountable references to witchcraft and its association with sexuality, debauchery and carnal abandon (Hoffman 163). One example of sexual imagery comes from the speech of the sable figure leading the witch s sabbath in the forest. The figure uses the words bed chamber, stain, blood, penetrate, bosom, and sin to talk about man s evil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Substance And Substance Abuse Among Inmates Substance Abuse among Inmates Substance abuse can be a big problem in our criminal justice system when dealing with the number of inmates who go back to their illegal activity after being released from custody. In specific, inmates who are drug users/ abusers are to be expected to go back to drugs once they get out. Without treatment they do not have the tools, knowledge, or resources to stay clean on the outside when released. The biggest hazard for an ex inmate in the community is getting back to their old life, old friends, old contacts, and old drugs. To understand why these substance abusers are the way they are, there must be a clear emphasis on how these substances first evolved and where they originally came from. Focusing on substance abuse among inmates at the federal and state prison can be extremely different when in custody and the programs and treatment that is provided in these prisons can really have a great effect on these offenders when being released back into the community. Substance abuse can range from a small marijuana problem to a severe heroin addiction. Substance abuse is defined as overindulgence in or dependence on an addictive substance, especially alcohol or drugs. This is a huge issue in our society today and has been since dated back to the earliest age of 1794 otherwise known as the 17th century. Alcohol was the first substance that was allowed to be of consumption. Alcohol was the first substance that was represented in American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A historical overview and understanding of the U.S. Customs origins displays how over the centuries the strategic mission of the CBP has evolved to combat threats of specific time eras. U.S. Customs has grown from collecting of revenue during the 1800s to fighting the War on Drugs, and well into the 21st century where combating terrorism would be yet another mission undertaken by CBP. Originally, right after the American Revolutionary War, many American s were weary of federal government s control and involvement. For this very reason many American States would proceed and hire their own customs agents collecting revenue for the states and not federal government. Attractive Returns For The Vc Attractive Returns for the VC In return for financing one to two years of a company s start up, venture capitalists expect a ten times return of capital over five years. Combined with the preferred position, this is very high cost capital: a loan with a 58% annual compound interest rate that cannot be prepaid. But that rate is necessary to deliver average fund returns above 20%. Funds are structured to guarantee partners a comfortable income while they work to generate those returns. The venture capital partners agree to return all of the investors capital before sharing in the upside. However, the fund typically pays for the investors annual operating budget 2% to 3% of the pool s total capital which they take as a management fee regardless of the fund s results. If there is a $100 million pool and four or five partners, for example, the partners are essentially assured salaries of $200,000 to $400,000 plus operating expenses for seven to ten years. (If the fund fails, of course, the group will be unable to raise funds in the future.) Compare those figures with Tommy Davis and Arthur Rock s first fund, which was $5 million but had a total management fee of only $75,000 a year. The real upside lies in the appreciation of the portfolio. The investors get 70% to 80%of the gains; the venture capitalists get the remaining 20% to 30%. • 25. The Capote Character Analysis Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocenceof Bonnie, the dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton. Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to be burned.. • 31. Physical Value in Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn Essay Physical Value in Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn The poetry of John Keats contains many references to physical things, from nightingales to gold and silver garnished things, and a casual reader might be tempted to accept these at face value, as simple physical objects meant to evoke a response either sensual or emotional; however, this is not the case. Keats, in the poem Ode Upon a Grecian Urn, turns the traditional understanding of physical objects on its head, and uses them not solid tangible articles, but instead as metaphors for and connections to abstract concepts, such as truth and eternity. In the poem, Keats dismisses the value of physical things as only corporeal for what he feels is more substantial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is the metaphysical truth then, that Keats seeks to connect to the physical beauty of the Grecian urn? Webster defines truth as Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been; or shall be. ; another description, more Romantic and fitting to Keats, is Bertrand Russell s: Truth is a shining goddess, always veiled, always distant, never wholly approachable, but worthy of all the devotion of which the human spirit is capable. . Keats is essentially saying through the urn that truth, the conforming to facts, is the exact same thing as physical beauty; beauty is a factual attribute of an object. An analysis of the text, searching for connections between the abstract and the tangible, would do much to elucidate this matter. The poem is broken into five parts. The first section opens with a description of the urn as a bride, a foster child, a historian. All these personifications are subtle linkings of the abstract actions related to those roles which Keats assigns to the concrete object, the urn. He then further reinforces this subtle link with a series of observations on what is painted on the urn. What men or gods are these? What maidens loath? / What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape? / What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy? (lines 8 10) is another demonstration; he makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Chivalry Today Research Paper Does Chivalry Live Today? In current society people are becoming more impatient, disrespectful, and self centered. While this self centered attitude may fulfill immediate needs, long term consequences of this lifestyle can lead to the erosion of society. The problem is that younger generations are adopting this new lifestyle where they become more selfish and rude. Thus, everyone around them becomes selfish, and, as a result, society as a whole loses chivalry. Some people say chivalry is dead, however, practicing chivalrous acts every day can help prevent this egocentrism and keep this quintessential trait alive. There are many examples of how the lack of chivalry is eroding society. For example, today there is a general accepted lack of respect today including race and authority figures. I am currently doing my practicum with Mrs. Curthirds at Lumberton Elementary School. She is a new counselor this year with the elementary school. A few years back, she was the counselor in the high school building. Mrs. Curthirds has been a counselor for about 17 years now. Her main practice has been in school counseling, but she has informed me that if she was younger she would have specialized in additional areas. She encouraged me that while I am young to go ahead and specialize in something and avoid putting it off like she did. I find it excellent that school counselors say with the profession so long... She said that she believes that children generally do not care what you think until they know and think that you care about them. This meaning that she is working to show them that she cares so in turn they will care about themselves and the future too. She does what every counselor does and that instills hope by showing you care. I like her belief or theory on this. I want to be able to show children that I care about them and for them to know and believe that they have someone that cares about them. I never realized until working in the school how many kids feel like no one cares about them and when they realize someone does you can see the light in their eyes. Mrs. Cruthirds talked about seeing the change in students as she began working with them. She said that students fall to peer pressure most of the time, so when you start working in groups with them or with their class as a whole you can see their thoughts changing on certain topics along with behaviors. The therapeutic skill that she uses most with her student is keeping in touch with them. People are so unaware of their sight that they do not realize everyone has a blind spot. However, this is not people s fault, as the brain is to blame for this lack of awareness regarding sight and blind spots. The blind spot, where the optic disk resides, is located at the back of the eye, where there are no cones or rods that detect light (photon) stimuli (Watson, N. V., Breedlove, S. M. 2016). Since V1 is the main area for cognitive vision, damage to this area is what has been found to cause what we now call blindsight (de Gelder, B. 2010). Moreover, blindsight, which used to be known as residual vision, has been studied and defined as a person who cannot cognitively see, but is still able to detect objects subconsciously with their secondary visual locations. In the study of the person known as LN, the subject was still able to avoid objects when walking through a hall with obstructions in his path, although he was reported to be incapable of seeing. This remarkable behavior is associated to the superior colliculus, which is part of the visual system, but is not active in cognitive vision. This may seem like an absurd comparison, but when explored more deeply it makes quite a bit of sense. The social penetration theory is a description of the multi layered nature of people s personalities. As the outer skin of an onion is peeled away another layer is found beneath it, and if you remove that layer you will expose another layer, and so forth. According to Jourard a person is more likely to self disclose when he believes that his audience is of good will, or someone with an attitude of love and trust. Now we must ask a question as to how much one should disclose to people? The breadth and depth of self disclosure is determined by the degree of intimacy a person wants to achieve, with another. This theory claims that peripheral (public) items are exchanged more frequently and sooner than private information. This usually happens in the beginning of a relationship when it is still on a more impersonal and superficial level. According to one study, only about 2 percent of people disclosed intimate details about themselves during this level of the relationship, the majority of talk between two individuals on this level was about public items, or worldly experiences they both knew about. Self disclosure is reciprocal during the beginning stages of developing a relationship. New acquaintances generally achieve equal levels of openness, perhaps due to the vulnerability of both people knowing nothing about the other. And, in large plan area buildings like warehouses, the horizontal seismic forces can be much more to be carried by columns and walls. Horizontal Layout of Buildings In short, the simple geometry buildings have performed better during the earthquakes. Buildings with re entrant corners, such as those U, V, H and + shaped in plan, have been able to sustain significant damage. Many times, the bad effects of earthquakes can be avoided by making the buildings in two parts. Like, an L shaped plan can be divided into two rectangular plan shapes using a partition point at the junction. At times, the plan of buildings is simple, but the columns/walls are not equally distributed. Such buildings tend to twist during earthquake or shaking. To get to that withdrawal period the person must stop taking the drug they have been on. Whether the person quits in a day or three months later, that person would still have to go through that withdrawal period. This is similar to a teen starting to drive for the first time.
