1.INTRODUCTION 1.1 About the project: My project Advanced Hospital Management System
includes registration of patients, storing their details into the system and also computerized
billing in the pharmacy, and labs. Our software has the facility to give a unique id for every
patient and stores the details of every patient and the staff automatically. It includes a search
facility to know the current status of each room. User can search availability of a doctor and the
details of a patient using the id. The Advanced Hospital Management System can be entered using

Feasibility study is the test of the system proposal made to identify whether the user needs may
be satisfied using the current software and hardware technologies, whether the system will be
cost effective from a business point of view and whether it can be developed with the given
budgetary constraints. A feasibility study should be relatively cheap and done at the earliest
possible time. Depending on the study, the decision is made whether to go ahead with a more
detailed analysis. When a new project is proposed, it normally goes through feasibility

The Positive Effects Of The Black Death
Everything gets worse before it gets better. A bruise turns into a gaudy green pigment before it
fully heals; a rainstorm sends hail falling from the sky, impaling anything it sees, right before a
beautiful rainbow appears; the red fleshed pimple on one s face continues to grow bigger and
bigger until it spontaneously disappears. A catastrophe can lead to success and hope, much like the
Black Deathleads to the Renaissance. The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics
that resulted in one third of europe s population to die. Despite all the death and evil the Black
Death brought, it has a good outcome The Renaissance. The Black Death was the catalyst of the
European Renaissance because of the effects it had on the European economy, artistic
expression, and technological advances. The Black Death affected the European economy in a
positive way. The biggest change, good for peasants, was the end of Feudalism. Feudalism is a
social triangle that decided who obeyed who and many other unfair standards for all Serfs, the
base of the pyramid. Due to the huge population deficit, Serfs were scarce and Barons were now
willing to pay higher wages and offer extra benefits. All their life they had lived off the serfs hard
work, and were willing to pay them to stay on the manor to continue slaving for them (Vunguyen).
This gave the Serfs more power to ask for higher wages and the freedom to find more work if they
do not get what they want. Serfs, or peasants, began

Factors Affecting Nigerias Underdevelopment
According to an economist the idea of development is a situation whereby there is an increase in
a nations GNP and GDP, leading to an increase in growth .but to a sociologist this is a surface
definition as development or rather a country is regarded as developed when such increase is
affecting the living condition of its people even to the smallest group in the society. Where we
don t only calculate numbers and figures and structures but can see the positive change of things
in the life of the people, both the rich, average and poor. Then such a society would be regarded as
developed. For example the living conditions of the USA.

Neo colonialism or imperialism
This is an external factor of Nigeria s underdevelopment; it is the highest form of exploitation
from the British countries to their colonies after independence. Nigeria has contributed to its
economic backwardness, as it promotes the maintenance of foreign domination and enhances neo
colonialism and the flowering of subjugationism (onimode, 1981). Imperialism has always been
an exploitative phenomenon, which was the initial motive for colonization. Nigeria has been
seen as a dumping ground for most British counties, making it difficult for us to produce our own
goods. Also the fact that we are primary producers with fewer technicalities to produce our raw
materials into finished products makes it a means of imperialism as we export our goods at the
rate determined by the British colonies and still import back at a higher cost. For example the
crude oil, Nigeria is the largest country with the crude oil but the poorest in economic state due
lack of technicality in transforming crude oil into petrol which led to the issue of sucidy removal
in January 1st 2012, even after which things haven t changed as fuel scarcity hits most part of the
country e.g. Abuja, Lagos etc. as at 19th September 2012.

My Family As An Extended Family
Introduction From an early age I placed a very high value on being a part of my family. At first it
was most likely feeling safe and secure. That being said, I had the logical realization that family
was important. Of special importance were grandparents and the extended family members. Being
born in a town where both sets of grandparents resided in addition to all the rest of my extended
familywas very comforting to me. Being the first born grandchild had its advantages. I became
very attached to all the grandparents and enjoyed love, attention and quality time frequently
until the first grade when we moved. When my younger sister was born, I never felt replaced or
left out because of the quality time my grandparents invested in me. Even after my family
moved a state away we always went back for holidays, birthdays and summer vacations. I have a
great deal of wonderful memories from my childhood. My mother s father, my grandfather, was
a very large presence in the community. He was well respected in both the white as well as the
black community in which he owned a grocery store. This was unusual because there was a lot
of racial tension and discrimination in Southern Alabama in the 1960 s. He was a tall man at six
foot five and was a hard worker. He often bailed people out of jail and helped them with food
when they were financially strapped anonymously. He was a Sunday school teacher and had
good moral values. I learned later that before I came along he had been an alcoholic, a smoker,
had been known for his quick temper, was not religious and had been unfaithful to my
grandmother. As it was told to me, one Sunday morning he got up, got dressed, went to church
and never took another drink or smoked again and was a radically changed man. He became a
kind, caring, charitable person. He was more of a father to me in many ways than my dad and
we had long talks in which he stressed the important things in life. He and my grandmother took
my sister and I fishing on the lake. We camped in the camper. We stayed for vacations at the Gulf
of Mexico. The stories he told, lessons I learned and loving affection he genuinely offered is
something I consider a gift I have never forgotten. The reason I never forgot is

Theories Of Employee Retention
Here in the United States, there has been an emerging issue that has challenged management within
the workforce. That issue is simply put is employee retention. With so many at will employment
options out there, fierce competition amongst business and those businesses looking to operate
more efficiently with less staff, employee retention has become an issue. So we have to ask
ourselves how do we combat this issue? This issue is a very complex one here in America because
of the melting pot we are with cultures, beliefs, structures, restrictions, affirmative action and etc.

Fourth would be how to overcome low motivation. With these factors, ideas of how to communicate
the plan within the organization must be implemented. The Sheriff has hired an expert advisor in
the field of Effective law enforcement organizational planning when understaffed to achieve the
aforementioned. For the purpose of this paper let s say that I will be this expert.
One of the key factors for retention strategy and hiring of new employees goes far and beyond a
competitive benefits package and salary. However the latter is very much so important and
would need to be addressed. After brief study of surrounding law enforcement agencies I have
come to the conclusion that MCSO is behind a little when it comes to compensation and benefits.
The neighboring county of Palm Beach has a starting salary of $47,220 for law enforcement
positions (Sentinel, A. R. 2014). This is approximately a full $7,000 more than MCSO s starting
salary. Not to mention the Fire Department within Martin County has a starting salary around
$48,000. In my professional opinion public service is public service and both the fire department
and sheriff s office fall under this umbrella. There needs to be more parity here because it seems to
be a common complaint amongst the employees of the sheriff s office which negatively affects
motivation and morale.
Research suggest that employees rank recognition, flexibility and training as top priorities for

Analysis Of Ray Bradbury And Ursula Le Guin
A Convenient Society One can unknowingly suffer for the sake of society s convenience. Both
authors, Ray Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist endures
in order to serve their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to the overall
role of the protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode of pathos to
convey the oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes. Ursula Le Guin
utilizes diction and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s dependency on the
life of a young, hopeless boy. Through the authors use of diction, personification, and the rhetorical
mode of pathos, readers can view both short stories in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Ray Bradbury s August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains , The McClellan family home seems
equipped with every imaginable technological innovation, but it fails to provide more human
qualities like love (Devers). This excerpt is an example of how the author expresses
personification in this short story. The house has each and every technical tool that it needs to
function, yet, it does not have the love of its owners any longer. Along with personification,
Bradbury uses the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate how the house continues to carry out
its daily functions even though the surrounding society has suffered. An example of how
Bradbury attempts to capture the reader s emotional psyche is, In the nursery the jungle burned.
Blue lions roared, purple giraffes bounded off....Ten more voices died... . This allows readers to
feel sorry for the perishing animals that are dying in the burning house. As Bradbury uses
personification and pathos to engage readers into the short story, readers can emotionally relate
and visualize a house that continues to function without a society. In The Ones Who Walk Away
From Omelas written by Ursula Le Guin, a society is depicted as a care free utopia. In this society
lies the protagonist. In the beginning of the short story, Le Guin asks the reader question such as,
How describe the citizens of Omelas .

Differences Of The Sioux And Chippewa Indian Tribes
The Sioux and Chippewa Indian tribes have a drastically different way of living compared to
what other people are accustomed to in terms of their history, food , and their roles in their tribes.
The Sioux Indians were originally from Asia, but migrated to America about 30,000 years ago.
Their long, straight jet black hair resembles that of the Asian descendants. The Sioux tribes were
located in The Great Plains, which consists of 7 different states Minnesota, Wisconsin, North and
South Dakota; however, they were also known to live in parts of Nebraska, Illinois, and Montana.
The name Sioux is an abbreviation of Nadouessioux. (Britannica) The name was given to them by
the Ojibwa (Chippewa). Sioux means, Little snake . The Sioux tended to follow the pattern of the

How Did Aristotle Obey The First Cause To Change
Aristotle imagines an infinitely vast and eternally complicated universe, all under the control of a
divine being. He states that the reason for the universe must be love because if God did not desire
the universe, He would not allow the universe to exist. Through further observation, Aristotle then
claims that a change must be caused to change. It is through these changes that all physical entities
appear only temporarily. He then claims that there are four fundamental principles that describe all
causes. The first cause is the material cause, which states that all objects have an immanent material
that brings them into being. This is similar to Thales argument of origin where he stated that all
moist things must be brought into being from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The material cause, formal cause, and final cause all rely on an omnipotent being. The final
cause is the cause of the other causes, but if one were to suggest there was no ultimate purpose
then the efficient cause would explain all naturalistic creations. I would suggest that there is an
agent that causes the change. It is the light that reflects off a stump that makes the wood appear
brown. It is the result of evolution which is caused by the procreation of the surviving that allows
for human beings to exist. The material cause and formal cause can be explained by the efficient
cause. I agree with the final cause, because it answers the purpose of the efficient cause. If things
can only be brought to motion by an agent of change, then why bring the initial physical entity into
motion if not for a purpose. If every object is caused to motion by a purpose it must in some way
be contributing to a purpose that justifies its existence. Going back to Aristotle s initial argument, it
is unreasonable that something could come out of nothing if not for a divine being with a desire
for the Universe s existence. This God must desire the universe for some reason, this reason is the
purpose of its

Blue Clue Essay
Blue s Clues specifically set out to fix these problems. Cognitive development was vital, but they
wanted to do it in a way that didn t sacrifice fun or comprehension. First, they addressed the issue
of comprehension. As long as things happened logically, as long as kids could make a connection,
it didn t matter the length of the segments. At the time a dominant theory in developmental theory,
Piaget s work meant that easily distractible children couldn t handle large jumbles of video or
longer segments. Sesame Street supported the first part of this, by showing children couldn t
understand things out of order. But Blue s Clues challenged the second part, and in doing so
changed the idea of the length of child s attention span (Jaffe). This... Show more content on

Examining this show says something about its audience, and the culture their audience was part
of. Obviously, one show s audience can t represent an entire culture. As Blue s Clues was part of
a channel that had to be paid separately for, as opposed to Sesame Street which was on basic
cable, it couldn t reach all audiences. Perhaps it can t speak for those in lower economic classes,
or those who don t support the use of television for their children. But it can say a lot for the
direction the education of children was going. Blue s Clues showed that things were changing.
America was taking the education of their children seriously, looking for new and inventive ways
for them to grow and develop within their own homes. It also showed that television no longer
ended when the show was turned off. While Sesame Street showed that commercial tie ins could
be a success with its massively popular Tickle Me Elmo in 1996 (Jaffe), Blue s Clues recognized
that their positive impact on learning and development wasn t just limited to a thirty minute period.
Examples of that include educational computer games, or clothing with specially designed buttons
to encourage dressing independence ( Me and You ). In the broadest sense, Blue s Clues understood
that a child s development was a dynamic and difficult process. They understood that early

plot of the book. The teenager, Holden Caulfield, shows the reader what it can be like when going
through many tragedies as a young adult. The book is followed by a set of many questions.
Throughout the book you find the answer to these question and why Holden becomes what he

turn Holden grew up a little himself. When Holden says you have to let them do it , he means
you have to let them grow up. This is one of the biggest climaxes of the whole book because
Holden has now created a new persona of just being a teen, and not as a protector or a catcher, he
just is a teen who is growing up. Consequently, the book is starting to show Holden is showing a

Introduction
Since its grand entry in the 19th century, baseball has evolved to be one of the most popular sport
nationally and to be known as America s national pastime. This multibillion dollar industry attracts
millions of fans worldwide throughout different regions. The origin of baseball is believed to have
evolved from a ball and bat game called Seker Hemant played by ancient Egyptians dating as far
back as 2,500 BCE. Fast forwarding time, modern day baseball began with the formation of the
Cincinnati Red Socks in 1869 following with the establishment of the National League in 1876 and
later the American Association in 1901. (Auerbach, 2016) It wasn t until 1903 the Major League

cities due to different versions and rules of the game, baseball did not strike its popularity until the
Civil war, documentation shows high interest in this particular sport during this time period.
The Major League today consists of 30 teams that represent cities throughout the United States and
Canada. In the early years of the MLB was most known for its baseball wars, legal disputes,
bidding of players, threats between leagues and broken contracts. Throughout the years baseball has
been associated with union avoidance and hostility over pay establishments, benefits and work
rules. (Auerbach, 2016) Players have been subject to a restrictive system through which a player

Leadership Is The Process Of Influencing People
Nurse Leader According to Huber (2010), leadership is the process of influencing people to
accomplish goals (p. 4). Management is then defined as the process of coordinating and integrating
resources by planning, directing, and organizing. Huber (2010) then goes on to explain that
effective leadership is a blend of both leadershipand managementprinciples and techniques. It is
important for nurses in management positions to demonstrate effective leadership qualities. This
includes having good interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills as well as having a vision for
your facility. One such leader is Susan Hilton, a manager at a private for profit Skilled Nursing and
Rehabilitation Unit.
Education and Training
Susan currently has an Associate s Degree in Nursing (ADN) but is on track to obtain her

The Batten Disease And Its Effects On The Nervous System

Batten Disease
The Batten disease is characterized as an autosomal recessive, fatal disorder that consists of
detrimental effects on the nervous system. Although the disease typically presents during
childhood, there are many forms that show signs at various ages. Batten disease, also known as
Spielmeyer Vogt Sjögren Batten disease, is named after the British pediatrician who first
correlated its symptoms with the disease progression in 1903. This disease is the most common
type of a group of disorders called neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, or NCLs. Although Batten
disease originally referred specifically to the juvenile form of NCL (JNCL), the term is now
increasingly used by pediatricians to describe all forms of NCL.
There are four main types of NCL: infantile, late infantile, juvenile and adult. The signs and
symptoms of these forms are extremely similar, with the main difference being the age at which the
disease presents.
Juvenile NCL is classified as the original Batten disease because it is the most common form of
the disorder and progresses less rapidly than other types. First symptoms of this progressive
disease typically begin to develop between the ages of four and seven, when a previously normal
child develops vision complications or seizures (Pearce, 2007). Although, in other cases, changes
may be more minor and manifest in behavioral changes, a decrease in learning capacity, or
clumsiness. However,

George Eliot Research Paper
George Eliot, pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, was born on November 22, 1819 in Chilvers
Coton, Warwickshire, England to an estate agent, Robert Evans, and Christina Pearson. Eliot was
an English novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Her
father believed that because she did not have physical beauty, she would not get married;
therefore, he put more money into her education. She and her sister attended Mrs. Wallington s
School at Nuneaton from 1828 to 1832, where she became influenced by Maria Lewis, the
principal governess, who taught her to accept the idea of God and religion. While she was in
school, she learned French and Italian, but when her mother died, she had to move back in with her
father. After her brother got married, he took over the familyhouse, so Eliot and her father moved to
Coventry.
When she read Charles Hennell s book An Inquiry Concerning the Origin of Christianity, she began
to doubt her religion. This novel deconstructs the Bible and demonstrates that all of the miracles
could be explained. Books about the relationship between the Bible and science interested her,

Employability Skills 2000+
Executive summary
The first year of Business Administration program sufficiently covers almost all of the skills
described in the Employability skills 2000+ handout from the Conference Board of Canada, at least
as well as can be done in a single year.
Each skill is examined and shown how the program transfers knowledge of the skill to the student.
One of the recurring items is the major assignments that the students must complete the projects
more than the instruction itself is what students learn the most from. I also noticed that more time
is spent on teaching communication to students than any other skill in the handout.
There are only two recommendations that I would make, which are:

Manage Information
As the economy is moving towards a knowledge based environment, the ability to find good
information to back up what you are saying is becoming more and more valuable. While the
internet has made this a much easier, it has also created many new pitfalls. With so many new
sources popping up daily it is difficult to differentiate between good and biased sources. Instruction
at the GPRC includes:
How to find resources and how to decide which sources to use with the research paper for Business
Communications. All students would have had difficulty with the library website if not for the
instructions given in the first few weeks of class, and that instruction will transfer to our searches
for information in our later career as it has taught us which sites to go to find information.
Using information from wide variety of disciplines is somewhat lacking since all courses in the
first year are business related, even the options. There could be an option or requirement to take one
course from outside the department, be it philosophy or computer science, so long as it is out of the
business Administration Program.
Use Numbers
Understanding what needs to be measured and knowing the appropriate methods for measuring is
important for any business in any field even if their goal isn t to make money. Several courses in
the first year add to our use of the using numbers skill:

The Lemon Test
The court case resulted in the establishment of a set of legal criteria for determining whether a law
violates the Establishment Clause in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. The
Establishment Clause in the First Amendment states that the United States Congress cannot permit
a law that establishes religion or forbids the free speech thereof. This set of legal criteria was later
referred to as the Lemon Test . The Lemon Test consisted of three rules: First, the statute must have
a secular legislative purpose; second, its principal or primary effect must be one that neither
advances nor inhibits religion; finally, the statute must not foster an excessive government
entanglement with religion (Allison). In 1981, the National... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Future of Scholarship Essay
The Future of Scholarship
Introduction:
The development and rapid movement in the field of technology has changed the face of modern
society from what it was twenty years ago. Information and communication technologies have
changed dramatically even in the last ten years. Electronic mail, listservs, and the Internet, to name
a few, are all parts of the new technology that is re defining scholarly communication. In her article
entitled Scholarly Communication Christine Borgman states that [r]esearch was clustered around
three variables: producers of the communication . . ., artifacts of communication . . . and
communication concepts. (146) The impact of the new communication technologies to scholarly

The division of knowledge into disciplines, however, doesn t impose a pre ordained order and
doesn t easily transfer to the modern workplace. Many reports have stressed the importance of
incorporating interdisciplinarity into the undergraduate experience at the research university. (13)
Elsewhere she states that [d]isciplinarity is specialized scientific exploration of a particular
homogenous subject matter, producing new knowledge and making obsolete old knowledge.
Therefore, disciplinary activity results in continuous formulations and reformulations of the present
body of knowledge about the subject matter. (Coleman The New Scholarship 1) With this in mind,
interdisciplinarity occurs when curricula and/or research and innovation are organized around a
problem that is too broad to be studied/solved using just the methods and knowledge in one
discipline (Coleman Interdisciplinarity 9) When such a problem is addressed within the scholarly
community, interdisciplinarity leads directly into collaboration. Maria Bordons and Isabel Gomez
define scientific collaboration as two or more scientists working together on a joint research
project, sharing intellectual, economic and/or physical resources. (198) This definition however,
can easily be expanded to all areas of the scholarly community.
As more and more interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching and research occurs, there

The Quiet American Imperialism Essay
The Quiet American: Imperialism The Quiet American is a novel written by British writer
Graham Greene that was published in 1955. The story is set in Saigon near the end of the Indo
China War and it portrays a significant romantic triangle and its struggles between three main
characters. The triangle is formed by Thomas Fowler (British reporter), his Vietnamese girlfriend
Phuong, and Alden Pyle who is the suggested Quiet American as we know from the title. But we
later find out that the American is not so quiet after all. Once he arrives to Vietnam is when this
triangle is formed and the tensions begin to rise. Throughout this story I believe that Fowler and

Benin Art in Museums and Galleries Essay
The display of Benin art in museum and galleries reflect the attitudes and perceptions of Europeans
towards non western artefacts, especially African. Thus as European attitudes change towards non
western art since the discovery of Benin art in 1897, Benin art has been revaluated and re
categorised.
Initially there was a great deal of debate about Benin art and its display, as it did not equate with the
perceptions then held about Africa. Until the British conquest of Benin in 1897, little was known
about Benin and its culture apart from brief interaction with other Europeans in the sixteenth
century. The perception of Africa was of a primitive, savage and uncivilised land, full of abuses
and fetishes and idolatries , (Hodgkin, 1975, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This posed a display problem to exhibitors including the British Museum as they tried to fit them
into the ethnological museum to explain the emergence of civilisation from prehistory (Loftus,
2008). The predominating attitude towards the Benin artwork was that it was the exception and
lost treasure from an ancient, African civilisation. This resulted in the display of the Benin bronze
plaques in the British Museum as a collective wall decoration, halfway up the main stairs, one
more element in the eclectic mosaic of artefacts (Wood, 2008, p72). The rest of the display of
various antiquities of art and functional items like weapons and transport displayed jumbled
together in glass cabinets with little or no detail as to the function or cultural value of the artefacts
often misrepresenting ideas about primitive life.
The primitive nature of African art attracted many artists looking for new inspiration and
expression as urban modernity lost its vitality in the late 1880 s and 90 s (Wood, 2008). In
adopting primitive African art as the catalysis for their expression of modernity, avant garde artists
created a more positive perception of the primitive rather than the negative barbaric perception.
Wood (2008) quotes the early twentieth century, avant garde critic Carl Einstein in that the Benin
artworks were of no decisive significance. In fact, the western artists reduced their sophisticated
beauty of the artwork as seen in

There is a new version of Barbie that came out, Slumber Party Barbie. This Barbie caused a lot of
controversy in our society. The reason being, the doll came with a scale that only went up to 110
pounds and a diet book. There was also a sign that said, How to lose weight? Don t eat (HuffPost
UK,2017). Mattel, the maker of Barbie, had numerous complaints from many parents. Due to that,
researchers ran an experiment to test whether the doll did influence young girls on their body
image. There was a survey that was conducted with women that played with Barbie s when they
were younger, 18 out of 25 stated that they would rather be hit by a truck than be fat. In another
experiment that was done by scientists, young girls would be exposed to three different dolls.
On one hand, the young girls that viewed the Barbie had a self image problem, and a desire to be
thin compared to the other girl that looked at the other two dolls. The conclusion of this
experiment proved that young girl s role model was Barbie, and being exposed to that doll
impacted them in a negative manner. As a result, these girls developed an eating disorder. The

analysis supported the hypothesis. Barbie s do have a significant influence on

Introduction
The current issue in sport particularly athletics is the use of performance enhancing drugs popularly
known as doping. Spectacular doping cases have risen in the sporting arena that has caused
unexpected situations and annoyed the public who are the fans. People have limited knowledge
regarding doping though it is an ancient time issue. As a result, some people believe that all
professional athletes have always been doped to achieve the standards of good performance and
even compete and win in most of the great tournaments (Anderson, 2013). However, the number of
athletes that have been positively tested has been small and almost non representative thus raising
suspension that only a few athletes are the influence of drugs. This is not therefore enough to make
a generalized conclusion concerning the world of sports.
Overview of doping The high rewards in selective tournaments require that competitors possess
some features such as high level of practice and sacrifice regarding energy and time. Others have
gone to the extremes of using questionable methods and behaviors in pursuit of these rewards and
depending on the sleekness of the fruits; the contestants have gone on to engage in more practices
to get there. Some of these activities are against the organizer s interest, for instance, the use of
steroids and other products to enhance performance by professional athletes

Importance Of Social Networks In Society
Society, Social Interaction, Groups, and Organization Social Networks and their Importance
According to Nicholas Christakis, social networks are like the pairs of people connected.
Through his studies, he realized that socially connected people get embedded in other sorts of
relationships such as marriage, friendship, or even spousal. He discovered that these
connections are vast, and all of us are embedded in the broader set of relationships with each
other. Therefore, social networks are the complex things of beauty that are so elaborate, so
sophisticated and so ubiquitous. In his video, Christakis outlined the importance of social
networks with adequate examples. One of the benefits is the emotional contagion, which is the
phenomenon of another person s emotions or behaviors triggering similar emotions and
response in other people. He elaborated this by performing an obesity epidemic, where he
discovered that there is the probability of a person being obese given that a social contact of his
/her friend is overweight. That is, if your friend is obese, there is the risk of you being obese too,
as you will be involved in doing activities that make your friend overweight. Another benefit is that
social connections are essential for the spread of valuable and useful things such as happiness,
kindness, love, altruism, and ideas. In his video, Christakis stated that if individuals realize how
valuable social networks are, they could spend a lot of their time nourishing and

The Death Of The Modern American Mafia
The American underworld reared its head for the first time in the late nineteenth century. Since this
time new waves of immigrants to the United States, primarily Italian, have facilitated in the rise of
organized crime in America. Italian mafia members treated the workings in America as an
extension of the Sicilian mafia rather than a new organization. The immigration of the Lucania
family from Italy to the United States would be the cause of one of the most drastic changes in the
workings of organized crime. Charles Luciano became the father of the modern American mafia.

Luciano learned his way around the life of the streets. One of his first major rackets was getting
his schoolmates to pay him for protection ( Lucky Luciano Biography , n.d.). If they didn t cough
up the money, he was liable to give them a beating himself ( Lucky Luciano Biography , n.d.). By
1916, he was a leading member of the Five Points Gang, a gang with a reputation for brutality and
for fighting to the death in gang wars. In this same year, Luciano started delivering narcotics for
George Scanlon, and was caught for selling heroin, which got him a year at Hampton Farms
Penitentiary. This was the start of something for Luciano.
Luciano formed a gang that would later dominate the face of organized crime and change it into a
new and all pervasive menace that would influence the American social life for many years to
come. He first met Meyer Lansky and Benjamin Bugsy Siegel when he was into grabbing pennies
from jewish kids for protection (Gosch, 1975). Luciano had walked up to Lansky, and standing a
whole head taller than him, made the usual proposition for protection (Gosch, 1975). Lansky stared

Octavian Caesar versus Marc Antony
Octavian Caesar, also known as Augustus, was the grandnephew of the dictator Julius Caesar. Marc
Antony was one of Caesar s friends and allies. The conflict between two powerful men who were
competing to succeed Caesar was the spark that transformed the Roman Republic into the Roman
Empire. For several reasons, these two Romans began a feud that changed their own lives and
altered the course of history. First, Octavian, who was acclaimed Caesar s heir, announced his claim
to Caesar s succession after Caesar was assassinated. Antony was displeased because he wanted to
rule. Second, Antony, who controlled the Roman legions, felt threatened when Octavian gathered
troops of his own. Third, Antony s involvement with Cleopatra started rumors that they were

Examples Of Racism In The Play Fences
When you look at field of dandelions, you can either see a hundred weeds, or a thousand wishes...
It s known as perspective in which, I have learned that two people can look at the exact say thing
and see something totally different. In Fences and Say yes , both authors reveal that different
perspectives about racecreate conflict with those that you love.
The overall play Fences, deals with racism in various types of ways. In the play fences the
perspective on racism has trickled down from generation to generation. Firstly before Troy even
knew what racism was his father was greatly affected by it. Troy s father was profoundly
affected by slavery during his time of life. Troy said that all his father wanted was for them to
learn how to walk so they could work. The only thing my daddy cared about about was getting
them bales of cotton in to Mr. Lubin, this shows how slavery and racism greatly affected Troy s
father. Due to his father being so caught up in his work he treated Troy and his siblings very
poorly, which kind of influenced Troy s views on white people.
Troy and his son Cory have a really heavily impacted love hate relationship. Troy and Cory both
view racism and white people in various types of ways. Firstly on page 2 Troy states Why you
got the white mens driving and the colored lifting, this already shows a discrepancy that Troy
has towards white people. Troy views him and his friends unequally to the white people in the
society during the time period. Now Troy sees that he has a lack of equality compared to white
people. Did white people feel they had more privilege compared to blacks? It s just a perspective
that Troy has about white people right off the back, now he later runs into some conflict with his
loved ones.
One of the biggest disagreement points in the story revolved around Cory wanting to pursue his
dream in college football due to the scholarship he had been offered. The white man ain t gonna
let him get nowhere with that football, said troy, again this quote shows a lack of trust in white
people as he believes that one of the white recruiters won t really take Cory and that Cory will
never make a living out of it. What Troy does not understand is that times

What Role Does Magic Play In Othello
Magic in Othello Magic has a huge effect on the characters in Othello, although it is not visible or
physical. It controls all of them and depicts or changes their thoughts and actions. In the play
Othello written by William Shakespeare, magic plays a major role in how the characters think and
act, often in ways unusual ways. Magic is not the kind you see in movies, but the kind that is built
up in their heads, to the point were it shapes their thoughts and opinions. Such as the handkerchief
given to Desdemona by Othello, it is symbol of love and trust for Othello, and it going missing
angers Othello. Othello is also accused of using magic and witchcraft to win Desdemona, to which

sq km). The Kashmir region has a total area of about 86,772 square miles (224,739 sq km) and
much of it is undeveloped and dominated by large mountain ranges such as the Himalayan and
Karakoram ranges. The Vale of Kashmir is located between mountain ranges and there are also
several large rivers in the region. The most populated areas are Jammu and Azad Kashmir. The
main cities in Kashmir are Mirpur, Dadayal, Kotli, Bhimber Jammu, Muzaffrarabad and
Rawalakot. Kashmir has a varied climate but in its lower elevations, summers are hot, humid and
dominated monsoonal weather patterns, while winters are cold and often wet. In the higher
elevations, summers are cool and short, and winters are very long and very cold. No wonder many
people called it the Switzerland of the East.
Economic Resources
Kashmir s economy is mostly made up of agriculture that takes place in its fertile valley areas.
Rice, corn, wheat, barley, fruits and vegetables are the main crops grown in Kashmir while lumber,
and the raising of livestock also play a role in its economy. In addition, small scale handicrafts and
tourism are important to the area.

Jerusalem Research Paper
The beautiful city Jerusalem is recognized as one of the oldest and most importantly holiest cities
in the world. The reason behind Jerusalem s sacredness is because it is home to several of religious
sites important to Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Jerusalem offers a numerous amount of
religious history between the three cultures that share a fair amount of differences and similarities.
In the Christianity sector, the city comprises of the central story of Jesus, as well as the Church of
the Holy Sepulchre. It is also known for its history of David and Abraham, two important figures in
Judaism, and includes the western wall, making it the reason why it is a great focus in Judaism.
Lastly, Islams believe it is where their prophet, Muhammed, travelled to during his night journey
and where he ascended into heaven. In commemoration of Muhammed the Dome of Rock and the
al Asque mosque were built in Jerusalem. All in all, Jerusalem contains stories of Jesus, David,
Abraham, Muhammed, as well as famous places of worship, making it known as a religious centre
for Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
Jerusalem is known as the birthplace of Jesus, where he preached, performed miracles, and where
he was crucified, making this city an important part of Christianity. Christians believe that Jesus is
the son of God, the one who was brought down to earth to pass the word of God. One of the
reasons why Jerusalem is a significant part in Christianity is because their sacred text, the

The Representational View Of Consciousness
(1) What is representationalism about consciousness? What are the pros and cons of
representationalism? Do you agree with this view or not? Why?
Introduction
This essay is on the representational view of consciousness, which is I admit one that I have had
great difficulties coming to terms with as a viewpoint. I can relate with functionalism defining
mental states as what they do but I agree they don t solve the hard problem of consciousness.
Representationalism seems to define the metal state or phenomenal property as what it represents.
This essay mainly looks at Chalmers article The Representational Character of Experience and his
view of impure representationalism, although his view seems to cover most objections, I don t find
that it accomplishes or approaches the hard problem of consciousness. That said it is worthwhile to
look at its view, discussing what it is, and problems that it has.
Properties
To understand representationalism, we start with what is a representation and how it relates to
properties.
In our everyday life we are very familiar with something representing another thing, from a word,
a descriptive paragraph to a visual picture or movie of an object. We don t say that it is the
object; for example: we don t say a picture of my dog actually is my dog. What we express is that
it has captured some of the attributes, it relative shape, hair style and colour, etc.
Does a photograph represent the object photographed? The photograph is a two

How Does Eliza Haywood Use Disguise In Fantomina
Disguises In the 18th and 19th Century men and women wanted to search for their ideal partner
based on their desires while maintaining societal expectations placed on them. If a man or a
woman did not have certain traits they were considered unsuitable for marriage. In Eliza Haywood
s novel, Fantomina, and Oscar Wilde s play, The Importance of Being Earnest, the impact of these
unrealistic expectations are examined. In Fantomina the protagonist s character uses a variety of
disguises and power to maintain a sexual relationship with her lover. In the importance of Being
Earnest the two male protagonists also use disguises according to Victorian standards to maintain
relationships and lead double lives. In Eliza Haywood s novel Fantomina,... Show more content on

This forces Jack to disguise his true name and keep a double life in order to pursue and keep a
relationship with her. Cecily also holds the same values as Gwendolyn regarding the name
Earnest. This clearly demonstrates the lengths men and women will go in order to find their
ideal partner. Algernon, like Jack, fears that he will lose Cecily if he reveals his true identity.
They are also scared that they will lose their self respect in society once their secrets are revealed.
In Act 2 of the Wilde s play Gwendolyn and Cecily both confront Jack and Algernon about their
names. Both men confess that they have been wearing disguises and leading double lives in order
to maintain relationships with them. They both apologize for their actions and admit that they have
not lived up to the values and attributes associated with the name Earnest. Initially, Gwendolyn and
Cecily want nothing to do with them because they feel deceived and betrayed. However, they both
decide to forgive them only if they change their names to Earnest. Jack and Algernon agree to
become Ernest through baptism (Bastiat 3) because they do not want to lose them and what to live

Court Room And One Party
Lawyers are responsible to demand justice for those who have violated their legal rights or an
act against the law. A lawyer is an individual that is trained to be able to handle any various legal
issues at hand. Lawyers have many task such as protecting their clients life as well as belongings,
defending a client if legal action is taken towards them, and guiding their client in the right
direction of legal advice from the law. Our law is very complex, rather than asking someone to
learn the law, as citizens we just pay someone who knows them, studies them and has practiced
them in various ways. When thinking of lawyers many people only think about the big picture, two

In many cases lawyers have said wrong meaning in the court for something that the client had
not even done, resulting in false accusation which could possibly put an innocent person away
for nothing, this is why it is essential that lawyers prepare the way that they do. As a lawyer it is
your job to prove adequate abilities towards your case and most of all your client. Seeking
justice in the conclusion should be the attorneys goal even if the client presumes to be guilty. As
a student with a passion for the study of law, I have no fear in being the first to say that justice is
something we as people need to keep fighting for. Without justice who knows how things would
be, our world would be a complete mess. Recognition of the good from the bad, as well as the
just of our law, to the unjust. Becoming a lawyer is no easy task, in fact it is considered one of
the more difficult choices as a career path. With law being so widely spread there are numerous
approaches one may take in achieving the official goal in sight, being said, most find that the
approach taken is not always the final result. For example, many attorneys that pursue becoming a
prosecutor have a change of mind towards that study because they learn to combat with it so well,
ultimately switching sides to become a defense

Music, Customs, And Lighting
The live performance I decided to go and see was called Celebrating 20 Old New Borrowed
Blue. This production was put up by the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company also known as
MET dance. During this production, there were four different choreographic works, Stirring
Simple Gifts in Shades of Blue , A Tribute to the Jazz Man called Steven Boyd Tribute, Air , and
lastly New Second Line (2006). All four of these works were equally great, but the two that
significantly stuck out to me were Air and the New Second Line (2006) . Throughout this paper, I
will delve to describe the different type of elements amongst the two different works of art, for
example, choreography, music, customs, and lighting. Air was uniquely put together; the audience
was able to see the choreographer s concept very clearly. Before this choreographic works were
presented, there was a lady that came on the intercom providing us with safety instructions as if we
were on a plane getting ready to take off. This signified the attention to which this performance was
accorded. Once the curtain opened and the dancers began to enter the stage, everything started to
take place. The dancers entered in unison though in a line from a far right entrance to the corner
that was open seemingly to give attention to the theme. Though early, I noticed that the exit was
different from the entrance as it was on the opposite side somehow in line with the movement of an
airplane. The background for this piece was

Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis
Chapter 2 Vendor Evaluation and Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis 2.1 Vendor Evaluation
Supplier or vendor selection decisions are complicated by the fact that various criteria must be
considered in decisions making process. The analysis of criteria for selection and measuring the
performance of suppliers has been the focus of many scientists and purchasing practitioners since
1960s. The majority of research about supplier selection problem mentions Dickson s study [9]. It is
based on a questionnaire sent to 273 purchasing agents and managers selected from the membership
list of the National Association of Purchasing Managers, which include agents and managers from
the United States and Canada. Dickson s study describes the importance of 23 criteria for supplier
selection which are classified with respect to their importance observed in the beginning of the
sixties. At that time, the most significant criteria are quality of the product, the on time delivery, the
performance history of the supplier and the warranty policy used by the supplier. Table 2.1 Dickson

Socio Economic Status And Health
Introduction Social stratification is one of the tenets of sociological inquiry, and the association
between socio economic status and health could be viewed as a classical problem in medical
sociology that dates back the mid 19th century works of Friedrich Engels, Rudolf Wirchow and
Salvador Allende. These scholars writing during the early years of capitalism (Salvador Allende
is an exception as to this trend as he studied the social origins of illness in the later times and a
different geographical context) noted that the structures of oppression and features of urban life
were major contributors to the spread of infectious diseases (Waitzkin 2005). Sensitivity to
social origins of illness were pushed aside during much of the first half of the 20th century,
which marked the hegemony of the biomedical models of disease etiology, yet the issue of socio
economic inequalities in health re emerged in the 1960s after the publication of the Black Report
in England and the book entitled Differential Mortality in the United States: A Study in
Socioeconomic Inequality by Evelyn Kitagawa and Philip Hauser in the United States. The Black
Report project was commission by the Labor government of the 1970s and its goal was to classify
the British population into 6 social classes based on the occupation of the household head to in
order to assess the evidence of inequalities in health. The results suggested that the risk of mortality

Division Of Labor In Emile Durkheim, Adam Smith And Karl Marx
The division of labor is the process through which community members perform specialized types
of work with a common objective. This has received significant theoretical discussions based on
social thoughts from the theories of Emile Durkheim, Adam Smith and Karl Marx. Throughout
human history, the division of labor has been present from the cultural perspective in its most
essential form. Division of labor was mainly based on gender such as the case of hunter gather
societies. In this case, while women gathered food and took care of their children, men hunted for
game meat. This paper will discuss several theorists developed to define the concept of division of
labor.
According to Muldoon (2013), increasing levels of specialization also lead to lack of enthusiasm
among workers in addition to reduced overall skills in their work. This perspective was refined and
extended by Karl Marx who was a popular economic theorist. However, Karl Marx labeled this
process as alienation, where workers were turned to be more specific individuals coupled with
work repetitious eventually becoming completely alienated (Calhoun 2012). In fact, Marx
indicated that such division of labor among workers was physically and emotionally depressing
and compared it to a machine s condition. In this regard, he was guided by the firm belief that the
fullness of production was a prerequisite to the process of attaining liberation in human beings and
accepted the notion of a strict division of labor as a necessary evil that was only temporary.
However, the most important theoretical contribution that Marx made towards the concept of an
economy, was his sharp distinction between the economic or technical division and social division
of labor (Muldoon 2013). That indicated that some form of co operation in employment was as a
result of technical necessities. However, some evidence suggested that others resulted due to the
functions of social control that is related to the concepts of status and class hierarchy (Calhoun
2012). If individuals conflated these two roles, it often appears as though the existing labor division
is technically immutable and inevitable as opposed to the notion of an influenced or constructed by
power relationships.

Titus Andronicus Revenge Quotes
The creator of Titus Andronicus is William Shakespeare. The subject I pick that identifies with
current circumstances is revenge. Revenge is the activity of incurring hurt or mischief on
somebody for a harm or wrong endured at their hands. The literary text I will use to examine the
content is personification. The reason personification is significant in the play is on account of
Tamora suspected that Titus was insane and came to visit him dressed as revenge. The reason I
chose revenge as the theme I feel relates to modern day situations is because, in the beginning of
the play Titus slaughters Tamora s child and when Titus figures out who assaulted Lavinia. The
things Tamora does to get vengeance on Titus for murdering her child, and what Titus does to the
young men who assaulted his little girl Lavinia. The result of revenge in the play is everybody
winding up dead with the exception of Titus child Lucius. I do believe that contrasts with current
vengeance basically in light of the fact that how everything happened except it likewise is relying
upon the circumstance that you are in, yet I don t think you would have anybody cooking
individuals and serving them to their guardians. That is just over the top.... Show more content on

Ict Gadgets Aid The Student s Education Essay
I ICT gadgets aid the student s education. Through the facility of accessible sources online, students
are provided with wider reference for more reliable learning. It is with convenience that students get
the most revised online journals existing for reference. It provides significant resources that will
academically aid the students. Through easy access to virtual websites, it presents the students
updates and reliable online journals. It also aids the students through the advanced technology
installed in these tools. For example, According to Travis (2011), gadgets that are brought to school
help the students achieve more accurate observations during experiment through photographs and
lecture data. Intelligent use of ICT gadgets could contribute to the educational performances of
college student(Grier et al., 2012). The three researchers mentioned piloted an analysis of the SAT
scores before and after the rampant use of technological devices. Studies show that most number of
the universities effectively using ICT gadgets provides a more operative educationto the pupils
(Higgins et al., 2012). ICT gadgets provide more reliable and updated sources. Studies show that
although using resources coming from printed books and other physical materials housed in
libraries will give students more merit, it is more practical and evident these days to rely on ICT
gadgets to satisfy student s needs and learning (D Elia, n.d.). Researchers and authors that have been

Cloning Stem Cells From Cloned Embryos Case Study
A less common view holds that obtaining stem cells from cloned embryos poses fewer ethical
problems than obtaining stem cells from discarded IVF embryos. Several Scientist and Ethicist
have argued that embryos resulting from SCNT do not have the same moral status we normally
accord to other embryos: the combination of a somatic nucleus and an enucleated egg a
transnuclear egg , is a mere artifact with no natural purpose or potential to evolve into an embryo
and eventually a humanbeing, and therefore falls outside the category of human beings. A similar
argument views that obtaining stem cells from cloned embryos is less morally problematic because
embryos resulting from SCNT are better thought of as tissue culture, whereas IVF... Show more

If cloning for therapy became available, its application would thus likely be restricted to chronic
conditions. Wilmut , who cloned Dolly, has suggested that cloning treatments could be targeted
to maximize benefit: an older person with heart disease could be treated with stem cells that are
not a genetic match, take drugs to suppress her immune system for the rest of her life, and live
with the side effects; a younger person might benefit from stem cells from cloned embryos that
match exactly. Devolder and Savulescu have argued that objections about economic cost are most
forceful against cloning for self transplantation than, for example, against cloning for developing
cellular models of human disease. The latter will enable research into human diseases and may
result in affordable therapies and cures for a variety of common diseases, such as cancer and heart
disease, which afflict people all over the world. Finally, some have pointed out that it is not clear
whether cloning research is necessarily more labor intensive than experiments on cells and tissues
now done in animals.
Another concern is that because cloning is an asexual way of reproducing it would decrease genetic
variation among offspring and, in the long run, might even constitute a threat to the human race.
The gene pool may narrow sufficiently to threaten humanity s resistance to disease. In response, it
has been argued that if cloning becomes possible, the number of people who will choose it

Symbolism In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In Alice Munro s short story, Boys and Girls, the underlying theme displayed throughout the entirety
of the story is conforming and defying to society s gender expectations. This is shown through the
literary device, symbolism. Symbolism is seen through Flora the horse and the protagonist s mother.
Firstly, Munro displays society s weak and stereotypical view of women through the protagonist
s mother. The mother acts exactly as society expects girls to, staying inside the house, cooking
and cleaning. For example, the mother did not often come out of the house unless it was to do
something hang out the wash or dig potatoes in the garden. (43) indicating that her sole purpose
was to be inside the home. However, although women are expected to be weak and silenced, the
protagonist opposes herself to society s expectations. While most girls are expected to help their
mother in the kitchen and stay inside, the protagonist prefers to help my father when he cut the
long grass, and the lamb s quarter and flowering money musk, that grew between the pens. He cut
with the scythe and I raked into piles. (43) Due to the protagonist preferring to work outside with
her father it makes her mother feel as though, It s not like I (she) had a girl in the family at all. (44)
which is evidence that the protagonist defies gender conventions by participating in male oriented
tasks. Munro expresses the protagonist s unconventionality through the use of symbolism in Flora
the horse. Flora is viewed as, given to fits of violent alarm, veering at cars and even at other
horses, but we loved her speed and high stepping, her general air of gallantry and abandon. (44)
Whereas, the other horse Mack, is described at slow and easy to handle (44) The inclusion of the
comparison amongst Mack and Flora is to show the reader that Flora s wild and brave personality is
not common and is seen as unconventional which represents the protagonist and her separation
from the norm.
Furthermore, the protagonist continues to be unconventional by going against society s
expectations for women, once she truly realizes what it means to be a girl. This is shown through
Flora fighting to avoid getting shot. Once Flora realizes her fate of being

Analysis Of Thunder Boomed
Thunder boomed in the distance as I raced down the stone path. Rocks scrapped the undersides of
my feet as I sprinted across the surface, splitting the flesh of my heels.
He was coming. I knew he would. He always does. I push to increase my speed, praying silently
that the house would soon appear on the horizon. An overwhelming need to reach the structure
invaded my body as I propelled myself forward.
A slight silhouette of a building could finally be seen between the trees, allowing hope to blossom
in my chest.
Just as I felt that I could make it, my foot caught on a root. A slight scream escaped my throat as I
tumbled to the ground. Before I could even take a breath, he was upon me. Everything was

My last thought was, Why did he betray me?
I jolt awake, covered in sweat. My heart raced as I sit up in my bed, looking around me. I take a
deep, calming breath when I realize I am in my room. It was just a dream, Aria, I thought to
myself. I turn towards my clock and saw it was a little after 3 in the morning. I groaned,
remembering I had school today.
I got up, knowing I wouldn t be able to get back to sleep. I turn on the shower and stepped inside,
letting the stinging warmth wash over me and erase the reminisce of the nightmare. I ve had this
dream many times before and it always resulted in me never finding out who was under the cloak
nor actually receiving the final blow. The familiarity that I felt from the person also puzzled me.
Was it someone that I knew?
I sigh, slightly shaking my head to clear my thoughts as I exit the shower and begin drying off. For
the next hour, I complete my morning routine and finish getting ready for school.
After I finish applying my makeup, I pause to look up into the mirror. Soft black waves of hair
frame my pale skin, as light gray eyes stared back at me. Dark bags littered the underside of my
eyes, giving me a slight sick look.
Ugly.
I pull myself from my reflection and began to descend down the stairs. Once at the bottom, I
decide to make me some toast for breakfast.
I shove two pieces of bread into the toaster and waited patiently for it to finish as I collected the

  • 3. The Positive Effects Of The Black Death Everything gets worse before it gets better. A bruise turns into a gaudy green pigment before it fully heals; a rainstorm sends hail falling from the sky, impaling anything it sees, right before a beautiful rainbow appears; the red fleshed pimple on one s face continues to grow bigger and bigger until it spontaneously disappears. A catastrophe can lead to success and hope, much like the Black Deathleads to the Renaissance. The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics that resulted in one third of europe s population to die. Despite all the death and evil the Black Death brought, it has a good outcome The Renaissance. The Black Death was the catalyst of the European Renaissance because of the effects it had on the European economy, artistic expression, and technological advances. The Black Death affected the European economy in a positive way. The biggest change, good for peasants, was the end of Feudalism. Feudalism is a social triangle that decided who obeyed who and many other unfair standards for all Serfs, the base of the pyramid. Due to the huge population deficit, Serfs were scarce and Barons were now willing to pay higher wages and offer extra benefits. All their life they had lived off the serfs hard work, and were willing to pay them to stay on the manor to continue slaving for them (Vunguyen). This gave the Serfs more power to ask for higher wages and the freedom to find more work if they do not get what they want. Serfs, or peasants, began ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Factors Affecting Nigerias Underdevelopment According to an economist the idea of development is a situation whereby there is an increase in a nations GNP and GDP, leading to an increase in growth .but to a sociologist this is a surface definition as development or rather a country is regarded as developed when such increase is affecting the living condition of its people even to the smallest group in the society. Where we don t only calculate numbers and figures and structures but can see the positive change of things in the life of the people, both the rich, average and poor. Then such a society would be regarded as developed. For example the living conditions of the USA. Neo colonialism or imperialism This is an external factor of Nigeria s underdevelopment; it is the highest form of exploitation from the British countries to their colonies after independence. Nigeria has contributed to its economic backwardness, as it promotes the maintenance of foreign domination and enhances neo colonialism and the flowering of subjugationism (onimode, 1981). Imperialism has always been an exploitative phenomenon, which was the initial motive for colonization. Nigeria has been seen as a dumping ground for most British counties, making it difficult for us to produce our own goods. Also the fact that we are primary producers with fewer technicalities to produce our raw materials into finished products makes it a means of imperialism as we export our goods at the rate determined by the British colonies and still import back at a higher cost. For example the crude oil, Nigeria is the largest country with the crude oil but the poorest in economic state due lack of technicality in transforming crude oil into petrol which led to the issue of sucidy removal in January 1st 2012, even after which things haven t changed as fuel scarcity hits most part of the country e.g. Abuja, Lagos etc. as at 19th September 2012. 3.Poor leadership According to john c. Maxwell leadership is about influence and niyi adesonya sees it as not just influence but also inspiration . The idea of Nigeria s leadership is just based on selfish gain of eating the national cake and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. My Family As An Extended Family Introduction From an early age I placed a very high value on being a part of my family. At first it was most likely feeling safe and secure. That being said, I had the logical realization that family was important. Of special importance were grandparents and the extended family members. Being born in a town where both sets of grandparents resided in addition to all the rest of my extended familywas very comforting to me. Being the first born grandchild had its advantages. I became very attached to all the grandparents and enjoyed love, attention and quality time frequently until the first grade when we moved. When my younger sister was born, I never felt replaced or left out because of the quality time my grandparents invested in me. Even after my family moved a state away we always went back for holidays, birthdays and summer vacations. I have a great deal of wonderful memories from my childhood. My mother s father, my grandfather, was a very large presence in the community. He was well respected in both the white as well as the black community in which he owned a grocery store. This was unusual because there was a lot of racial tension and discrimination in Southern Alabama in the 1960 s. He was a tall man at six foot five and was a hard worker. He often bailed people out of jail and helped them with food when they were financially strapped anonymously. He was a Sunday school teacher and had good moral values. I learned later that before I came along he had been an alcoholic, a smoker, had been known for his quick temper, was not religious and had been unfaithful to my grandmother. As it was told to me, one Sunday morning he got up, got dressed, went to church and never took another drink or smoked again and was a radically changed man. He became a kind, caring, charitable person. He was more of a father to me in many ways than my dad and we had long talks in which he stressed the important things in life. He and my grandmother took my sister and I fishing on the lake. We camped in the camper. We stayed for vacations at the Gulf of Mexico. The stories he told, lessons I learned and loving affection he genuinely offered is something I consider a gift I have never forgotten. The reason I never forgot is ... • 7. Theories Of Employee Retention Here in the United States, there has been an emerging issue that has challenged management within the workforce. That issue is simply put is employee retention. With so many at will employment options out there, fierce competition amongst business and those businesses looking to operate more efficiently with less staff, employee retention has become an issue. So we have to ask ourselves how do we combat this issue? This issue is a very complex one here in America because of the melting pot we are with cultures, beliefs, structures, restrictions, affirmative action and etc. Throughout our studies the research has shown that thriving organizations will be the ones that adopt and emplace an organizational behavior model that focuses on being... The Sheriff has hired an expert advisor in the field of Effective law enforcement organizational planning when understaffed to achieve the aforementioned. For the purpose of this paper let s say that I will be this expert. One of the key factors for retention strategy and hiring of new employees goes far and beyond a competitive benefits package and salary. However the latter is very much so important and would need to be addressed. After brief study of surrounding law enforcement agencies I have come to the conclusion that MCSO is behind a little when it comes to compensation and benefits. The neighboring county of Palm Beach has a starting salary of $47,220 for law enforcement positions (Sentinel, A. R. 2014). This is approximately a full $7,000 more than MCSO s starting salary. Not to mention the Fire Department within Martin County has a starting salary around $48,000. In my professional opinion public service is public service and both the fire department and sheriff s office fall under this umbrella. There needs to be more parity here because it seems to be a common complaint amongst the employees of the sheriff s office which negatively affects motivation and morale. Research suggest that employees rank recognition, flexibility and training as top priorities for prolonging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Analysis Of Ray Bradbury And Ursula Le Guin A Convenient Society One can unknowingly suffer for the sake of society s convenience. Both authors, Ray Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist endures in order to serve their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to the overall role of the protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode of pathos to convey the oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes. Ursula Le Guin utilizes diction and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s dependency on the life of a young, hopeless boy. In Ray Bradbury s August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains , The McClellan family home seems equipped with every imaginable technological innovation, but it fails to provide more human qualities like love (Devers). This excerpt is an example of how the author expresses personification in this short story. The house has each and every technical tool that it needs to function, yet, it does not have the love of its owners any longer. Along with personification, Bradbury uses the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate how the house continues to carry out its daily functions even though the surrounding society has suffered. An example of how Bradbury attempts to capture the reader s emotional psyche is, In the nursery the jungle burned. Blue lions roared, purple giraffes bounded off....Ten more voices died... . This allows readers to feel sorry for the perishing animals that are dying in the burning house. As Bradbury uses personification and pathos to engage readers into the short story, readers can emotionally relate and visualize a house that continues to function without a society. In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas written by Ursula Le Guin, a society is depicted as a care free utopia. In this society lies the protagonist. In the beginning of the short story, Le Guin asks the reader question such as, How describe the citizens of Omelas . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. How Did Aristotle Obey The First Cause To Change Aristotle imagines an infinitely vast and eternally complicated universe, all under the control of a divine being. He states that the reason for the universe must be love because if God did not desire the universe, He would not allow the universe to exist. Through further observation, Aristotle then claims that a change must be caused to change. It is through these changes that all physical entities appear only temporarily. He then claims that there are four fundamental principles that describe all causes. The first cause is the material cause, which states that all objects have an immanent material that brings them into being. This is similar to Thales argument of origin where he stated that all moist things must be brought into being from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The material cause, formal cause, and final cause all rely on an omnipotent being. The final cause is the cause of the other causes, but if one were to suggest there was no ultimate purpose then the efficient cause would explain all naturalistic creations. I would suggest that there is an agent that causes the change. It is the light that reflects off a stump that makes the wood appear brown. It is the result of evolution which is caused by the procreation of the surviving that allows for human beings to exist. The material cause and formal cause can be explained by the efficient cause. I agree with the final cause, because it answers the purpose of the efficient cause. If things can only be brought to motion by an agent of change, then why bring the initial physical entity into motion if not for a purpose. If every object is caused to motion by a purpose it must in some way be contributing to a purpose that justifies its existence. Going back to Aristotle s initial argument, it is unreasonable that something could come out of nothing if not for a divine being with a desire for the Universe s existence. First, they addressed the issue of comprehension. As long as things happened logically, as long as kids could make a connection, it didn t matter the length of the segments. At the time a dominant theory in developmental theory, Piaget s work meant that easily distractible children couldn t handle large jumbles of video or longer segments. Sesame Street supported the first part of this, by showing children couldn t understand things out of order. But Blue s Clues challenged the second part, and in doing so changed the idea of the length of child s attention span (Jaffe). This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps it can t speak for those in lower economic classes, or those who don t support the use of television for their children. But it can say a lot for the direction the education of children was going. Blue s Clues showed that things were changing. America was taking the education of their children seriously, looking for new and inventive ways for them to grow and develop within their own homes. It also showed that television no longer ended when the show was turned off. While Sesame Street showed that commercial tie ins could be a success with its massively popular Tickle Me Elmo in 1996 (Jaffe), Blue s Clues recognized that their positive impact on learning and development wasn t just limited to a thirty minute period. The book is followed by a set of many questions. Throughout the book you find the answer to these question and why Holden becomes what he becomes. Although the disease typically presents during childhood, there are many forms that show signs at various ages. Batten disease, also known as Spielmeyer Vogt SjГ¶gren Batten disease, is named after the British pediatrician who first correlated its symptoms with the disease progression in 1903. This disease is the most common type of a group of disorders called neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, or NCLs. Although Batten disease originally referred specifically to the juvenile form of NCL (JNCL), the term is now increasingly used by pediatricians to describe all forms of NCL. There are four main types of NCL: infantile, late infantile, juvenile and adult. The signs and symptoms of these forms are extremely similar, with the main difference being the age at which the disease presents. Juvenile NCL is classified as the original Batten disease because it is the most common form of the disorder and progresses less rapidly than other types. First symptoms of this progressive disease typically begin to develop between the ages of four and seven, when a previously normal child develops vision complications or seizures (Pearce, 2007). Until the British conquest of Benin in 1897, little was known about Benin and its culture apart from brief interaction with other Europeans in the sixteenth century. This resulted in the display of the Benin bronze plaques in the British Museum as a collective wall decoration, halfway up the main stairs, one more element in the eclectic mosaic of artefacts (Wood, 2008, p72). The rest of the display of various antiquities of art and functional items like weapons and transport displayed jumbled together in glass cabinets with little or no detail as to the function or cultural value of the artefacts often misrepresenting ideas about primitive life. In the play fences the perspective on racism has trickled down from generation to generation. Firstly before Troy even knew what racism was his father was greatly affected by it. Troy s father was profoundly affected by slavery during his time of life. Troy said that all his father wanted was for them to learn how to walk so they could work. The only thing my daddy cared about about was getting them bales of cotton in to Mr. Lubin, this shows how slavery and racism greatly affected Troy s father. Due to his father being so caught up in his work he treated Troy and his siblings very poorly, which kind of influenced Troy s views on white people. Troy and his son Cory have a really heavily impacted love hate relationship. Troy and Cory both view racism and white people in various types of ways. Firstly on page 2 Troy states Why you got the white mens driving and the colored lifting, this already shows a discrepancy that Troy has towards white people. Troy views him and his friends unequally to the white people in the society during the time period. Now Troy sees that he has a lack of equality compared to white people. Did white people feel they had more privilege compared to blacks? It s just a perspective that Troy has about white people right off the back, now he later runs into some conflict with his loved ones. One of the biggest disagreement points in the story revolved around Cory wanting to pursue his dream in college football due to the scholarship he had been offered. The white man ain t gonna let him get nowhere with that football, said troy, again this quote shows a lack of trust in white people as he believes that one of the white recruiters won t really take Cory and that Cory will never make a living out of it. It controls all of them and depicts or changes their thoughts and actions. In the play Othello written by William Shakespeare, magic plays a major role in how the characters think and act, often in ways unusual ways. Magic is not the kind you see in movies, but the kind that is built up in their heads, to the point were it shapes their thoughts and opinions. Such as the handkerchief given to Desdemona by Othello, it is symbol of love and trust for Othello, and it going missing angers Othello. Some of this includes picketing, abuse, imprisonment, and hunger strikes. But that wasn t all. These women separated from the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) after the leaders, Carrie Chapman Catta and Anna Howard, wanted an investigation done since Alice and Lucy didn t forward their funds to NAWSA. On the other hand, their determination was inspiring. These women faced so many people who were fighting against them; but they continued to get up every morning and face the same thing over again. They had to have been very resilient to face so much backlash and continue to fight. Introduction This essay is on the representational view of consciousness, which is I admit one that I have had great difficulties coming to terms with as a viewpoint. I can relate with functionalism defining mental states as what they do but I agree they don t solve the hard problem of consciousness. Representationalism seems to define the metal state or phenomenal property as what it represents. This essay mainly looks at Chalmers article The Representational Character of Experience and his view of impure representationalism, although his view seems to cover most objections, I don t find that it accomplishes or approaches the hard problem of consciousness. That said it is worthwhile to look at its view, discussing what it is, and problems that it has. Properties To understand representationalism, we start with what is a representation and how it relates to properties. In our everyday life we are very familiar with something representing another thing, from a word, a descriptive paragraph to a visual picture or movie of an object. We don t say that it is the object; for example: we don t say a picture of my dog actually is my dog. What we express is that it has captured some of the attributes, it relative shape, hair style and colour, etc. Does a photograph represent the object photographed? The photograph is a two ... This signified the attention to which this performance was accorded. Once the curtain opened and the dancers began to enter the stage, everything started to take place. The dancers entered in unison though in a line from a far right entrance to the corner that was open seemingly to give attention to the theme. Socio Economic Status And Health Introduction Social stratification is one of the tenets of sociological inquiry, and the association between socio economic status and health could be viewed as a classical problem in medical sociology that dates back the mid 19th century works of Friedrich Engels, Rudolf Wirchow and Salvador Allende. These scholars writing during the early years of capitalism (Salvador Allende is an exception as to this trend as he studied the social origins of illness in the later times and a different geographical context) noted that the structures of oppression and features of urban life were major contributors to the spread of infectious diseases (Waitzkin 2005). Sensitivity to social origins of illness were pushed aside during much of the first half of the 20th century, which marked the hegemony of the biomedical models of disease etiology, yet the issue of socio economic inequalities in health re emerged in the 1960s after the publication of the Black Report in England and the book entitled Differential Mortality in the United States: A Study in Socioeconomic Inequality by Evelyn Kitagawa and Philip Hauser in the United States. The Black Report project was commission by the Labor government of the 1970s and its goal was to classify the British population into 6 social classes based on the occupation of the household head to in order to assess the evidence of inequalities in health. • 49. Division Of Labor In Emile Durkheim, Adam Smith And Karl Marx The division of labor is the process through which community members perform specialized types of work with a common objective. This has received significant theoretical discussions based on social thoughts from the theories of Emile Durkheim, Adam Smith and Karl Marx. Throughout human history, the division of labor has been present from the cultural perspective in its most essential form. Division of labor was mainly based on gender such as the case of hunter gather societies. In this case, while women gathered food and took care of their children, men hunted for game meat. This paper will discuss several theorists developed to define the concept of division of labor. According to Muldoon (2013), increasing levels of specialization also lead to lack of enthusiasm among workers in addition to reduced overall skills in their work. This perspective was refined and extended by Karl Marx who was a popular economic theorist. However, Karl Marx labeled this process as alienation, where workers were turned to be more specific individuals coupled with work repetitious eventually becoming completely alienated (Calhoun 2012). In fact, Marx indicated that such division of labor among workers was physically and emotionally depressing and compared it to a machine s condition. In this regard, he was guided by the firm belief that the fullness of production was a prerequisite to the process of attaining liberation in human beings and accepted the notion of a strict division of labor as a necessary evil that was only temporary. However, the most important theoretical contribution that Marx made towards the concept of an economy, was his sharp distinction between the economic or technical division and social division of labor (Muldoon 2013). That indicated that some form of co operation in employment was as a result of technical necessities. However, some evidence suggested that others resulted due to the functions of social control that is related to the concepts of status and class hierarchy (Calhoun 2012). If individuals conflated these two roles, it often appears as though the existing labor division is technically immutable and inevitable as opposed to the notion of an influenced or constructed by power relationships. ... Revenge is the activity of incurring hurt or mischief on somebody for a harm or wrong endured at their hands. The literary text I will use to examine the content is personification. The reason personification is significant in the play is on account of Tamora suspected that Titus was insane and came to visit him dressed as revenge. The reason I chose revenge as the theme I feel relates to modern day situations is because, in the beginning of the play Titus slaughters Tamora s child and when Titus figures out who assaulted Lavinia. The things Tamora does to get vengeance on Titus for murdering her child, and what Titus does to the young men who assaulted his little girl Lavinia. The result of revenge in the play is everybody winding up dead with the exception of Titus child Lucius. Cloning Stem Cells From Cloned Embryos Case Study A less common view holds that obtaining stem cells from cloned embryos poses fewer ethical problems than obtaining stem cells from discarded IVF embryos. Several Scientist and Ethicist have argued that embryos resulting from SCNT do not have the same moral status we normally accord to other embryos: the combination of a somatic nucleus and an enucleated egg a transnuclear egg , is a mere artifact with no natural purpose or potential to evolve into an embryo and eventually a humanbeing, and therefore falls outside the category of human beings. A similar argument views that obtaining stem cells from cloned embryos is less morally problematic because embryos resulting from SCNT are better thought of as tissue culture, whereas IVF... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If cloning for therapy became available, its application would thus likely be restricted to chronic conditions. Wilmut , who cloned Dolly, has suggested that cloning treatments could be targeted to maximize benefit: an older person with heart disease could be treated with stem cells that are not a genetic match, take drugs to suppress her immune system for the rest of her life, and live with the side effects; a younger person might benefit from stem cells from cloned embryos that match exactly. Devolder and Savulescu have argued that objections about economic cost are most forceful against cloning for self transplantation than, for example, against cloning for developing cellular models of human disease. The latter will enable research into human diseases and may result in affordable therapies and cures for a variety of common diseases, such as cancer and heart disease, which afflict people all over the world. Finally, some have pointed out that it is not clear whether cloning research is necessarily more labor intensive than experiments on cells and tissues now done in animals. Another concern is that because cloning is an asexual way of reproducing it would decrease genetic variation among offspring and, in the long run, might even constitute a threat to the human race. The gene pool may narrow sufficiently to threaten humanity s resistance to disease. In response, it has been argued that if cloning becomes possible, the number of people who will choose it ... • 53. Symbolism In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro In Alice Munro s short story, Boys and Girls, the underlying theme displayed throughout the entirety of the story is conforming and defying to society s gender expectations. This is shown through the literary device, symbolism. Symbolism is seen through Flora the horse and the protagonist s mother. Firstly, Munro displays society s weak and stereotypical view of women through the protagonist s mother. The mother acts exactly as society expects girls to, staying inside the house, cooking and cleaning. For example, the mother did not often come out of the house unless it was to do something hang out the wash or dig potatoes in the garden. (43) indicating that her sole purpose was to be inside the home. However, although women are expected to be weak and silenced, the protagonist opposes herself to society s expectations. While most girls are expected to help their mother in the kitchen and stay inside, the protagonist prefers to help my father when he cut the long grass, and the lamb s quarter and flowering money musk, that grew between the pens. He cut with the scythe and I raked into piles. (43) Due to the protagonist preferring to work outside with her father it makes her mother feel as though, It s not like I (she) had a girl in the family at all. (44) which is evidence that the protagonist defies gender conventions by participating in male oriented tasks. Munro expresses the protagonist s unconventionality through the use of symbolism in Flora the horse. Flora is viewed as, given to fits of violent alarm, veering at cars and even at other horses, but we loved her speed and high stepping, her general air of gallantry and abandon. (44) Whereas, the other horse Mack, is described at slow and easy to handle (44) The inclusion of the comparison amongst Mack and Flora is to show the reader that Flora s wild and brave personality is not common and is seen as unconventional which represents the protagonist and her separation from the norm. Furthermore, the protagonist continues to be unconventional by going against society s expectations for women, once she truly realizes what it means to be a girl. This is shown through Flora fighting to avoid getting shot. Once Flora realizes her fate of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
