The Wretched Of The Earth
Political Resistance
According to The Wretched of the Earth, violence becomes the only approach to help the colonized
people to achieve self defined identity and national consciousness (Blecker, 2013). When the
colonials commanded Hong Kong people to maintain where colonialism has assigned them, Hong
Kong resisted instead of following the order. There were two symbolic movements that reflected
Hong Kongers discontent with British and Chinese governments policies.
The movement that conveyed Hong Kong people s discontent with the British colonial government
is the Hong Kong Leftist riots in 1967. After the breakout of the Cultural Revolution in China, pro
communist leftists in Hong Kong actively found opportunities to cause conflicts against the
colonial government. The labor disputes at the Hong Kong Artificial Flower Factory were a perfect
time to instigate Hong Kong people to oppose its colonial government. Along with the success of
leftists demonstrations in Macau and Hong Kong s social conflicts stemmed from poor working
conditions, the disputes developed into large scale demonstrations against British colonial rule.
Many pro communist demonstrators shouted Mao s slogans with Little Red Books held in their
hands. At the end of the demonstrations without the supports of Hong Kong citizens, the riots
failed and were discontinued by the first Premier of the People s Republic of China, Zhou Enlai.
The riots evoked Hong Kong people s awareness for their local

Ethical Issues With Ethical Marketing Essay
Issues with Ethical Marketing Ethical problems in marketing starts with conflicts and
disagreements. Each party in the marketing transaction brings expectations of how the business
relationship will exist and how the transaction should be conducted. Some ethical problems in
marketing research aren t always the invasion of privacy and stereotyping. Selective marketing is
used to discourage the demand from undesirable markets or just by disenfranchising them
altogether. Examples of unethical market is the exclusion markets such as gay, ethnic minorities,
and plus size markets. Unethical marketing behaviors will cause legal troubles and a bad reputation.
Here are some practices of unethical marketing, in which all should be avoided. First, Exploitation,
which is using scare tactics or hard sells against vulnerable consumers. Second, Spamming which is
the flooding a customer s voicemail, mailbox, email or any other means of communication with
unwanted messages. Third, bad mouthing the competition is talking down on values and benefits
of your competion s product or service . (Hunt, S. D., Chonko, L. B., Wilcox, J. B., 1984) Forth,
Misleading Advertisement and Information, which is any exaggerated claim or dishonest promise
which will cause the customers to mistrust companies and spread that the product a failure. As
companies conduct research they come into contact with confidential and personal information,

SOCIAL STIGMA
Social stigma is the extreme disapproval of (or discontent with) a person or group on socially
characteristic grounds that are perceived, and serve to distinguish them, from other members of a
society. Stigma may then be affixed to such a person, by the greater society, who differs from their
cultural norms.Social stigma can result from the perception (rightly or wrongly) of mental illness,
physical disabilities, diseases such as leprosy, illegitimacy, sexual orientation, gender identity, skin

Reasons For Starbucks s Or Starbucks
Do you prefer Kaldi s or Starbucks? This choice is given to SIUE students every day. Our group
chose to conduct an experiment that proves that students prefer Starbucks to Kaldi s. To ensure
we got the best results, we created an eight question survey, which we used as factors in our
descriptive statistics and regression outputs. They included: how old are you, what school are
you in, what gender are you, do you prefer Starbucks or Kaldi s, do you enjoy a treat with your
drink, do you prefer a store or out in the open, how many drinks do you get in a week, and what
drives your choice. To make sure we surveyed enough people, each of us had to survey 30 students
which in total, equaled up to 121, with an extra from one of us handing out 31 surveys.
Methodology
To execute surveying 121 SIUE students, we broke the campus up into fourths, consisting of the
Morris University Center, the Engineering Building, Founders, and Peck Hall. We ran into a
problem halfway through handing out surveys when, as a group, we decided to take out the
question, How do you identify yourself? , because we felt it had no significance to our study. Once
we corrected our survey, we were able to input our data into Excel. When we first entered our data
into Excel, we had all of our questions going horizontal, with the different response options going
vertical. The total numbers of answers each question received was listed horizontally after the
question. On further investigation, our group found that

Why Software Should Be Free By Richard Stallman
Vincent Jonany
Term Paper
INFO 450
06/06/15
In the paper Why Software Should Be Free written by Richard Stallman, he argued that developers
should develop free software. In the paper, Stallman justified his belief of the free software
movement. Stallman believes that free software can be defined with the four essential freedoms: the
freedom to run the program however the users like, the freedom to modify the source code so that it
does different computing, the freedom to distribute copies of the program, and the freedom to
distribute the modified copies to others. In his justifications of his stand on free software, he argues
that people will still have the initiative to develop software even though they know that it will be
freely distributed. Hence, Stallman believes that one of the main goals for the ... Show more content

Stallman first reminded the readers that institutions do not have to be software houses to be able
to pay programmers. Stallman then brought out his own experience of making a living for six
years as a free software developer. Stallman talked about his experience of him being hired from
other institutions to make improvements for free software. He explained that these institutions are
able to fund programmers by using the money from donations from computer manufacturers.
Lastly, Stallman justified that although free software developer realized that they are getting paid
at least half of what they could make elsewhere, they do this because they will be free from
bureaucracy, and they feel good about themselves. They feel good about themselves because they
know their works are for the greater good for humanity. Hence, Stallman once again confirmed that
we do not have to worry that no one will program, since programming is the most fascinating of all

The Hiding Place And Maus Comparison
Throughout modern history, various historical texts, personal accounts, and books have been
published regarding the devastating events of World War 2 and the Holocaust. Two of the most
prominent novels written about the Holocaust are Maus and The Hiding Place. Maus is a graphic
novel illustrated by Arthur Spiegelman in 1980 and details the catastrophic effects of the Holocaust
on the Jewish survivors of it. Another notable book similar to Mausis The Hiding Place by Corrie
Ten Boom. The Hiding Place is a biography written and published in 1937 and details the story of a
young Christian family during World War 1. Throughout these accounts, contrasting themes are
explored such as love, anger, forgiveness, and guilt. Although there are various similarities, there
are also extreme differences in the characters responses to the Holocaust as well as the themes
present within both novels.

this time, he describes the extreme guilt and anger that he feels towards his mother s suicide. He

explains that he feels like a prisoner to his overwhelming guilt, due to the fact that he rejected
Anja when she desperately needed love. After learning that Vladek burned his mother s diary,
Artie is devastating and his anger, heartbreak and guilt is only amplified. Because the last
connection to his mother has been destroyed, he lashes out in anger at Vladek and calls him calls

accept full closure. However, as the book progresses, he slowly begins to express the pain and

The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant Essay
In Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, Mathilde is an unhappy French woman who has an apparent
desire to live a more luxurious life. Because Mathilde is unhappy in her marriage, she is not shy to
let her husband know that he is not enough to keep her happy. Throughout Maupassant s story, we
can see the transformation of Mathilde s selfishness, unhappiness, and materialistic nature into a
newly found humbleness after an incident that causes her to learn that there is more to life than
material things. Throughout the first few paragraphs, Mathilde is portrayed as being obsessed with
material wealth, and as being selfish. We can see that Mathilde is materialistic by the words that
Maupassant writes about her and through her actions. Maupassant writes, She had no dresses, no...

And she loved nothing but that; she felt made for that. She would have liked to please, to be
envied, to be sought after (68). This shows the reader that Mathilde s want for material items is
greater than her desire to serve as a good wife to her husband. Another time we see her love for
material items is when Mathilde says to her husband, It annoys me not to have a single jewel,
not a single stone, nothing to put on. I shall look like distress. I should almost rather not go at all
(69). Instead of just owning her materials, Mathilde is constantly letting her materials define her.
It is apparent that Mathilde is not happy where she is and is not happy with her husband.
Mathilde is depicted by Maupassant as feeling unhappy as though she had really fallen from her
proper station (68). Mathilde s frequent remarks about her husband also show the reader that she
is not happy. Another time the reader can see that Mathilde is unhappy where she is socially is
when Maupassant writes, She suffered ceaselessly, feeling herself born for all the delicacies and
all the luxuries. She suffered from the poverty of her dwelling, from the wretched look of the walls,
from the worn

Imagine that it is 1941. The country is running out of manpower, or more specifically, it is
running out of men. America is busy fighting in a war on two sides of the world. Husbands,
sons, and fathers, most of them will never come back. As people at home mourn America s
fallen heroes, we also encounter another problem. America has just joined the global battle, and
it is far from being over. What will we do when we can t take any more men out of our

would be necessary for keeping a house, cooking, and raising children while the men got jobs and

States since the seventeenth century, these schools were typically only open to men. Some
schools did allow women to attend, but only the wealthy. It wasn t until around 1980 that
women were reported as receiving higher education to the same extent as men. Science and
mathematics were thought to be too hard for women to do, so those subjects were left for the
men to study. Often times, women were denied degrees that they had rightfully studied for and
earned. It was even said that women would have too hard of a time trying to cope with the
vigorous studying routines that came with a college education. Meanwhile, men earned degrees,
and attending a university was viewed as a very honorable path to take. This is not to say that
women didn t go to school at all. Most went to grammar school when they were young, but
stopped when they became teenagers to help at home and prepare for adult life. Some schools,

Summary Of Why Leaves Turn Color In The Fall By Diane...
My response to the story Why Leaves Turn Color in the fall by Diane Ackermans, is that it made
me feel emotional the way the author expressed life in a metaphor. For example, the author uses
an imprint of a leaf in a fossil stone to show evidence of previous life on Earth. The fossil stone
addresses the life cycle. Life persists on although plants, animals, and people perish. A thing that
stood out to me was that the author uses nature s seasons to relate to the life cycle of human
beings. I believe the author s purpose on describing the way that leaves change colors and fall off
trees in autumn is to compare to how the body changes in order to reach death; one day the leaves
are colorful and vibrant, and the next day they wither and die.

The Four Dimensions Of Cultural Values
Understanding the differences and similarities inherent in other cultures may provide opportunities
when working with individuals (or groups) who may have very different or similar cultural values.
Through the work of many people, more is known about other cultures values than perhaps ever
before. Geert Hofstedeis one of these people, and his work has allowed for a greater
understanding of cultural values across a wide range of dimensions. His work has grown from
four dimensions to six, and as more information is gathered this will perhaps increase as well. In
the first section, the first four dimensions of cultural values will be discussed briefly. Next, all six
dimensions will be given for the United States (US) and Japan, and will be considered according to
the highest and lowest differences between dimensions of these two countries cultural values. In
addition, considerations for applying motivational theories toward individuals from these two
countries will also be discussed. Lastly, a single dimension will be selected for each country and a
recommendation given accordingly that could help improve performance.
Four Dimensions of Cultural Values Latham (2012) outlines four of the broad categories of
Hofstede s cultural dimensions, including low high power distance, individualism collectivism,
masculinity femininity, and uncertainty avoidance, which will be discussed here. Power distance
can be thought of as the extent in which members of a culture accept inequality

Don t Let Your Dreams Be Dreams
Don t let your dreams be dreams, just do it , Shia Lebouf. Young Lewis and Clark dreamed of
adventures and exploring. They did not let their dreams be dreams. As adults the two would lead an
expedition of historical significance to the United States.
Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 1774, near Charlottesville, Virginia and was the boyhood
neighbor of Thomas Jefferson. (lewisandclark) Meriwether Lewis spent much of his time as a
youth in the outdoors, and developed an interest in plants, animals, and geology. He enlisted as a
private in the Virginia Volunteer Corps during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. In 1795, he
joined the regular U.S. Army at the rank of Ensign and was later promoted to the rank of
Captain. In 1801 Lewis became the personal secretary to Thomas Jefferson, the newly elected
President of the United States. (Scienceviews) William Clark was born on August 1, 1770.
William Clark was a Virginian native who was four years older than Lewis, (lewisandclark) Clark

Fishing for Trouble Essay
In 1999 near the Galapagos Islands, Rob Stewart, 22, an underwater photographer and filmmaker,
was driving when he discovered something that changed his life forever. It was a long line fishing
rig hung with hundreds of dead sharks on a single fishing line that Stewart explained had the
potential to reach from Earth to space. This fishingline is known by conservationists as a curtain of
death (Kielburger). Overfishing is the fishing of a species at levels too high for the species to
reproduce. This can greatly reduce fishpopulation and drive species toward extinction. Fishing has
provided the world with food and jobs that have remodeled Earth s cultures and lifestyles. Fishing
is practiced by local fishermen, commercial fishing rigs,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When fish populations are low in one area, fishing boats will need to move to another area
where fish are more abundant. This renders oceans and their sea life helpless and severely
damaged until all of the fish in the oceans are completely gone. That is why governments need
laws establishing the length of time a person could spend at sea fishing, in order to reduce
overfishing and increase recovery of fish populations. One example of a fish population suffering
from overfishing is the Pacific bluefin tuna. Overfishing has left the world with less than five
percent of its Pacific Bluefin tuna, says the Pew Environment Group (Kowalski). This statement
explains to the world how overfishing can drastically decrease a species population in an
extraordinarily short time period. The Pacific bluefin tuna and other fish are very much stressed
by overfishing, and suffer severe losses of population every day. Moreover, overfishing will soon
lead to the extinction of fish species like the Pacific bluefin tuna. The European Commission even
admits that the EU s [European Union] stocks are 88% overfished ( An Icelandic Success ). This
reveals Europe s failure to prevent overfishing from spreading throughout the continent and beyond
its borders. The majority of Europe s fish supply undergoes the harmful effects that overfishing
brings. Additionally, the fish

We should adopt the policy of Backward Scheduling, while using this method, because the due date
is given in this case and we are supposed to plan our work schedule, such that we can meet the
commitments of due date.
Critical Ratio Method: As we know that Critical Ratio method prioritize the work as per their
significance, and take into consideration two critical factors, one when the work is required to be
completed to meet the deadline and the second factor is how much time is required to complete
the work. The use of this method for meeting the due date would lower the average work flow time,
compared to First Come and First Serve method and Due Date method, but higher when compared
to Shortest Processing Time. The average tardiness is lower than FMFS method and SPT method
but higher than Due Date method.
Recommendation
After the analysis of all the four methods and evaluating their pros and cons of using them, we can
find out that it would be wise to use Shortest Processing Time method. When we compare this
method to other three methods, for meeting the commitments of our clients regarding due date, we
can easily observe that this method is best suitable in present context. We have to deliver the order
of our clients within a relatively short span of time with respect to the flow of work. As this
method has the lowest average work flow time, although it has a bit higher average

A lyrical dancer s movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. Lyrical jazzis a very

Meaning Of Blessed Be Meaning
I have seen the expression Blessed Be quite often as a way of greeting and/or a farewell,
indicating that the person saying/writing it wishes good fortune upon the person receiving it. I
have seen this so many times that I thought that was exactly what it meant and even more, it was
the correct way of greeting or saying goodbye to other people But through out my research I have

when using it.
The true purpose of Blessed Be is a sacred one. It has been used in countless religions to grant the

disease (www.alz.org). They may remember childhood memories, but forgot where they put the
cheese they bought yesterday. As the disease gets worse and worse, they may wander and even
forget people they care deeply about and those they interact with daily. Who are these people, and
what is the it they are suffering from? These are people suffering from Alzheimers Disease,
affecting 5 million individuals in the United States alone. Alzheimers Disease is a type of dementia,
a more general term meaning a decline in someone s mental ability, to the point of affecting their
everyday life. Alzheimers is actually the most common form, afflicting about 80% of dementia
patients. There are treatments and medications available to help patients with symptoms and slow
its progress through the brain, but science has not yet found a way to completely stop it, or even
slow it significantly for many patients. As patients continue

Essay on The Daoism and the Confucianism in Han Dynasty
The Daoism and the Confucianism in Han Dynasty
Yang Yu
History 135: Imperial Chinese History
Professor: Robert J. Culp
Paper I
March 4th, 2011
The Daoism and the Confucianism in Han Dynasty As the dominant philosophical school for
around two thousand years in Chinese imperial history, Confucianism is always regarded as the
most representative ideology of China, associated with numerous books, poems, artworks and
stories that glorify Confucianism s permeation into every corner of Chinese society. However,
before Han Wudi, Confucianism was only one of those competing philosophical schools founded in
Spring and Autumn period. During the Warring States period and Qin dynasty, Legalism took place
of all other philosophical schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is always easy to start the process of centralization but difficult to maintain the state of
centralization. Faced with this knotty problem, Wudi adopted Confucianism, which underlined the
moral basis of superior subordinate relations, appreciating that in the long run the ruler would
achieve his goals more easily and economically when his subordinates viewed their relationship
with the ruler in moral terms of loyalty and responsibility (65). In fact, Han s Confucianism is not
the same as the Confucianism during the period of the Spring and Autumn or Warring States. It is a
special status of Confucianism. As Ebrey writes in his book, Han Confucianism itself was eclectic,
fortifying itself with precepts and philosophical concerns drawn from what had been competing
philosophical schools in the pre Qin period (77). Different from the traditional Confucianism, Han s
Confucianism assimilated thoughts from Legalism, Daoism and other schools, such as Moism s
thought of universal love (е…јз€±) and yin and yang school s thought of five phases
(й ґй ідє”иЎЊи®є). Han Confucians sought ways to comprehend the world around them as a
self generating and self sustaining organism governed by cyclical yet never replicating flows of
yin and yang and the five phases (fire, water, earth, metal, and wood) (78). Han Confucians thought
that if one of these phases was disturbed, the whole system would

The Effects of Violent Video Games on Society Essay
Introduction
On December 1, 1997, fourteen year old Michael Carneal entered school property in West
Paducah, Kentucky and began shooting a pistol at a group of students participating in a youth
prayer group, killing three students and injuring five others. On March 24, 1998, Mitchell
Johnson (13) and Andrew Golden (11) opened fire on students at a high school in Craighead
County, Arkansas as they exited the building for a fire alarm set off by the pair, killing five and
wounding ten others. On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris (18) and Dylan Klebold (17) entered
Columbine High School in Jefferson County, Colorado and began a shooting rampage that left 13
dead and 21 others wounded. On April 16, 2007, Seung Hui Cho (23) began a siege on the ... Show

For the average adolescent male, this equates to witnessing approximately 5,400 acts of violence
per month (Smith, Lachlan, Tamborini, 2003). Although these numbers seem impressive, it still
only represents the violence depicted in video games and does not include the violence children
are exposed to in other forms of media. Studies suggest that by 12 years of age, the average child
has witnessed over 100,000 acts of violence just on television alone (Bartholow, Anderson, 2001).
Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, author of the book On Killing and Director of the Killology Group,
compares video game violence to the desensitizing process the United States military uses to
mentally prepare soldiers for combat. Grossman argues that steady and repeated exposure to violent
acts can cause the human mind to rationalize and accept the behavior; a person becomes
conditioned to the violence and associates it to normal conduct (Grossman, Christensen, 2004).
Grossman suggests that this operant conditioning is made more dangerous in the fact that it is
administered without discipline and character development, which are the safeguards used in the
military setting (Grossman, Christensen, 2004). From a psychology standpoint, there are three
basic explanations that theorists use when attempting to correlate violent video

Technology In VLSI Technology
Abstract Advancement in the VLSI technology leads to the reduction in chip size and increase
in chip density. As the chip density increases the overall power consumption and the complexity
also increases. As the performance of any system is measured mainly on power consumption, it
is recommended to use low power VLSI Design techniques. In this paper, we would discuss the
GDI logic and its application in the modeling of adders for Vedic Multiplier design. Adders are
of prime importance, the design of reliable and efficient adder for a VLSI based embedded
application matters. This paper primarily deals with the design of Ripple Carry Adder, Kogge

II. GDI LOGIC Gate Diffusion Input (GDI) logic is a low power Very Large Scale Integrated
(VLSI) design technique which was introduced as an alternative to CMOS logic design. This
technique is a two transistor implementation of complex logic functions; Logic functions can be
designed with fewer gates. GDI provides in cell swing restoration when operated in certain
conditions and use of restoration buffers. Digital circuits designed using GDI logic will have
less power consumption occupy a minimum area, gate count and delay in the circuit is reduced.
Because of fewer gates, there is less design complexity.GDI cell is as shown in the below figure
2.1 GDI cell looks similar to the CMOS inverter but the major difference is that the GDI cell has
one PMOS and NMOS transistors connected in cascade resulting in three input terminals N, P,
G. where N is the input terminal of NMOS, P is input to the PMOS and G is connected to the
common gate of NMOS and PMOS. These terminals could be given a supply VDD or Grounded
or input signal depending on the circuit design. In conventional CMOS inverter circuit, the
PMOS and NMOS diffusion inputs are always either VDD or Ground Figure 2.1 Basic logic
functions of GDI cell are as shown in the table below. Using which basic logic gates can be

Middle Colonies Motives
The middle colonies had many varying motives for founding, religious, economic foundations,
and political development. Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey all have different reasons
for the creation of the colony. Pennsylvania was claimed by William Penn because he wanted a
safe place for his, and everyone else s, religion. New York, however, was founded because the
Dutch were seeking great riches; although Henry Hudson, an English explorer they employed, did
not find a shortcut through North America, he did claim the land for the Dutch. Comparatively,
New Jersey was established and inhabited for its rich and fertile soil. Moreover, New York had
different religious motives than those of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. New York, being founded

Essay about intelligence
Intelligence is the level of competence, ability to learn or to some people it is how well an
individual performs on an IQ test. The structure of intelligence is best subdivided into two
significant categories. They are environmental and hereditary influences.
Environmental differences can be divided into different factors. The deprivation model of social
class and intelligence consists of three variables. These variables explain, in terms of environmental
factors, development and performance which are correlated with social status.
The first of these variables consists of the combination of birth order, nutrition, and prenatal care.

Examples of this contribution are conceptualizations and symbolizations. An unwanted contribution
would be some situation where there are people with marital discord or if they are economically
poor. Another contribution, explained by Bijou, refers to the kinds of reinforcers in effect in
cognitive situations. An example of this contribution would be to use positive reinforcing
contingencies. A hampering situation would entail adults who use aversive, neutral or random
stimulus contingencies. The last of these contributions refers to the schedules of reinforcement.
These contributions are categorized by a high number of people who schedule contingencies of
reinforcement in ways which maintain the cognitive repertories acquired (230). Greenfield insists
that people learn what they need to accomplish a goal presented by the environment. The
specification of a particular set of goals by the environment not only determines whether learning

Werner and Kaplan found out that variable verbal and action contexts for a certain concept provide
a way of generalizing that particular concept by differentiating it from its context. Educationally
this provides a wide variety of action goals but even more important during the initial stage instead
of the later stages. This goal structure of the environment plays a most important role in early life
and then gradually declines

Bp The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Of 2010
Prior to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010, BP had a positive reputation for promoting
corporate sustainability and creating sustainable energy. In the wake of the oil spill, however, BP
proved that it was not on the right track despite the proclamation to its constituents of the exact
opposite. There is a popular adage almost doesn t count. BP s investment in research directed
toward minimizing negative environmental impact while conducting business and accomplishing
major undertakings such as the Forties Field and Trans Alaska pipelines was a move in the right
direction. BP s follow through with the declarations the company made to its stakeholders was
severely lacking, however, and proved to be detrimental. The company admitted to failures and
oversight in its Risk Management sector such as failing to have a remote shut off switch, cutting
corners to save time and money, faulty wiring, a dead battery, a bent pipe, and its failure to closely
monitor a company that had a history of being responsible for other oil spillsand disasters among
other faults. A 166 page report issued in 2014, four years after the spill, determined that both BP
and Transocean failed to adequately inspect safety systems despite suggestions made to do so. Both
companies opted to follow an industry standard which was not adequate. This decision was not in
the best interest of affected parties and further proved to be injurious to BP. Numerous equipment

Mental Disorders And Personality Disorder
Emily Dickinson famously said that the brain was wider than the sky, and she wasn t far off. The
brain, specifically the mind, is the structure of all things personality and there are no set boundaries
that it falls in. But what happens when there s a glitch, causing people to not understand human
ethics? There are certain mental disorders that can be linked to serial criminality, such as antisocal
personality disorderand borderline personality which are exhibited in notorious killers Ted Bundy
and Jeffrey Dahmer.
Ted Bundy is perhaps a household name. His crimes were so horrendous and large that people
more or less recognize him, even if they do not know the reason. From the outside, Bundy grew
up in a loving middle class family. However, Born on November 24, 1946, Theodore Ted Bundy
started life as his family s embarrassing secret. His mother was just twenty two years old when she
had him, young and unwed, which disgusted her extremely religious parents. The grandparents
quickly took him in and made him believe is mother was his sister, hiding the truth from him at all
costs. This was just the first of many problems he had through his life.
His fascination with knives started at just the age of three, foreshadowing the crimes would come
later. As a teen, he had trouble connecting with peers, thought nothing of stealing, and often looked
into other s windows without second thought. He was a smart boy and did very well in school but
there was an undeniable difference

Persuasive Essay On Online Bullying
In today s progressive world, I believe it is better to consider online bullying in an immersed
online ethnographic research method, in order to fully understand how bullying is enacted in
an online world. It s also important to take this approach in order to understand what s
misunderstood about online bullying as a whole. Boyd (2010) states that if we are to know if
online platforms act as a tool for teenagers to perpetuate violence in the real world , we must
look at what they are doing online. Boyd finds that bullying does not dramatically go up or down
when social media is introduced (Boyd 2015, 152). Digital spaces that are important in the lives
of youth need to be understand both locally, and in global contexts. Mallan, Ashford and Singh s
(2010) article discusses iscapes as a way for todays youth to hang out or communicate. The authors
seek to answer the question, how do interactions across iscapes affect the identity work carried out
by today s youth. ( Mallan et al. 2010, 265).
Decheneaut et al. (2010) looks at an immersive ethnography in several online digital worlds. Bonilla
and Rosa state boldly that by using social media as their platform, subscribers can demand public
attention, and garner the attention from anthropologists by using hashtags (Bonilla et al. 2015, 5).
Technology changes how bullying is acted out, furthermore we consider online ethnographic
fieldwork in relationship to bullying as a real and viable part of anthropological studies.

Case Study Of The Fall Of Enron Corporation
This report aims at overviewing the case study regarding the fall of Enron Corporation. It is a
business proposal to senior management aimed at identifying the factors and practices which led to
the failure of respective organization.
History of Enron Corporation
Enron Corporation was established in 1985, by Kenneth Lay as a result of a merger between the
natural gas pipeline companies of Houston Natural Gas and InterNorth (Healy and Palepu, 2016).
Later, it expanded into 1,800 more products or contracts and thirteen currencies (which included
bandwidth, paper and pulp, and contracts such as weather and credit derivatives), a majority of
them were not subjected to the regulatory oversight of the United States Commodity Futures
Trading Commission (CFTC) (Dembinski et al., 2006).
By 1992, Enron had become the largest seller of natural gas in North America. As recorded on
December 31, 2000, Enron s stock was priced at $83.13, and its market capitalization exceeded $60

student with a heart for missions. Graham reached out to Pierce and began to desire to hear all
of his mission stories. Pierce shared his experience with Graham and became like a mentor to
him. Graham was inspired, and in 1975, Pierce and Graham went on a tour to see the world s
neediest places ( About Us ). It was on this trip that Graham s heart was exposed and called to
meeting the needs of the people in these locations. This conviction was similar to the one that
Pierce experienced on his trip to Asia and for this reason he would eventually go into the same
type of work that he was doing with Pierce.
Robert Pierce died in 1978 of leukemia. Only a year after his death, Franklin Graham took over and
became the President and Chairman of the Board of Samaritan s Purse. Both World Visionand
Samaritan s Purse are still active ministries today. The story of Robert Pierce shows that one person

he was a profound leader who understood the importance of connecting and building relationships
with those around him. Pierce shows an excellent example of networking with organizations and

some people self harm as a way of communicating or expressing things they cannot speak. It is

getting a need met or to influence another. If this is the case it is important for the therapist to
listen to what that need is and to help the individual satisfy that need in a constructive and

self harms is creating a space where the client can trust the therapist. I can imagine an individual
who self harms will carry a large level of guilt and shame at the behaviour and it is as always
vital to move at a pace the client is comfortable with. If I am aware of marks or cuts before the
client has disclosed to me I will wait until the client feels safe or I feel is ready to talk about the

puts them in a very vulnerable position. I would never suggest a no self harm contract as I feel
that would create too much pressure. It is important to remember that the behaviour is the adapted

ANSWER A TO CONTRACTS ESSAY ONE WAS A VALID CONTRACT FORMED? Betty s
(B s) rights against Art (A) depend on whether a valid contract was formed between them, and
whether it was breached and by whom. A and B clearly agreed on the subject matter (drilling a
well) and price ($10 a foot) and time for performance (June 1 completion). These terms suffice to
form a contract. The contract did not have to be in writing. A writing to evidence a contract is
required by the statute of frauds when land is transferred, but not for services to be performed,
as here. Betty would not have rights against A if the contract called only for drilling for water,
but the subject matter here is clearly a completed well, not the mere act of drilling: B s interest
(known to A) was in the water, and she asked him about drilling to supply drinking water, and

The Massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his Explorers in...
Two events took place in the mid 19th century in the United States that set the stage for a third
which became an historic turning point in American history. The settlement of Mormons in Utah
and their pursuit to establish their own government coupled with explorations to develop the
transcontinental railroad laid the groundwork for the massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his
explorers in 1853 which took eight lives. As massacres go, the loss of eight people was not
numerically remarkable. What made the Gunnison Massacre exceptional is that it catapulted into
the American conscious. Both Mormons and American Indians entered the spotlight of American
attention, and the resulting outrage forever changed American sentiment and government... Show

The Corps described the topography, route, buildings and culture of an assigned survey area, made
sketches of routes and distances, noted important observations, and kept a journal of daily
movements when the army was on the march. To accomplish this, such an expedition team would
typically include surveyors, a geologist, botanist, astronomer, meteorologist and an artist.
Transcontinental railroad After the United States acquired so much more territory, the push for
expansion accelerated and spurred development of an American transcontinental railroad line. The
California Gold Rush of 1848 fanned the flames of westward exploration and settlement. One of the
biggest challenges was finding the most suitable route. Businessmen were eager to expand their
horizons and capitalize on new western markets. In 1845, an early proponent of a transcontinental
railroad, Asa Whitney, led an exploratory team along the route he envisioned from Chicago to
northern California. As a highly successful dry goods merchant and locomotive manufacturer in
New Rochelle, New York, Whitney traveled widely to solicit support from other businessmen and
politicians. He proposed selling land to settlers along the route to finance construction. Whitney
printed maps and pamphlets and submitted several proposals to Congress. He was thwarted,
however, by southern business interests who opposed his plan because they would not

Congenital Heart Disease s Incidence
Congenital heart disease s incidence depends on how the population is studied. With better
diagnosis through the introduction of echocardiography the incidence figures of congenital heart
diseases has raised from the range of 5 8 per 1000 live births to 8 12 per 1000 live births (Hoffman
JIE, 2013).
All the countries have similar incidence of congenital heart disease. Some minor differences in
types of congenital heart disease by country are there. China and Japan for example have a higher
incidence of sub pulmonic ventricular septal defects, while coarctation of the aorta and aortic
stenosis may be slightly less common in Asian countries. Total incidence of congenital heart disease
remained same and does not affect by these variations (Hoffman JIE, 2013).
In most of the countries in African continent and other developing nations, a small portion of the
population can afford the diagnosis and treatment cost of congenital heart diseases. In rural
population situation become worse where accessibility to basic healthcare is already a serious
concern. Although the rural areas in developing countries are rich in natural resources, yet these
regions are poorest in financial resources ( Tantchou, 2011)
Congenital cardiovascular defects are structural problems that cause abnormal formation of the
heart or major blood vessels. ICD 9 has listed twenty five congenital heart defects codes, of which
twenty one designate specified anatomic or hemodynamic lesions. These defects

How Should One Face Death Be Controlled By Humans
According to Epictetus, how should one face death both one s own death
and the death of people close to you? Compare and contrast this attitude
with the attitude of another figure we have studied in the course (e.g., Hector,
Achilles, Antigone, Socrates). Do you accept either of these attitudes? Why
In his handbook, Epictetus asserts that the gods created a perfectly just universe. Humans must
align their beliefs with the wills of the gods and acquiesce to whatever happens in the world. In
order to live a life of equanimity, Epictetus believes that people must understand that life is a
fragile and temporary gift from the gods and that death must be recognized as inevitable. In the Iliad
, Hector and Achilles attitudes to death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Epictetus affirms that people must trust the gods judgment in establishing a well and just
universe. People must understand that death, like the rest of the universe s events, is a deliberate
element of the gods world. Therefore, people should want [events] to happen as they do happen,
and [their] life will go well (Epictetus, 13). When people shape their perception of death in
accordance with the gods wills, they are able to maintain equanimity. On the other hand, Epictetus
argues, If [people] are averse to illness or death or poverty, [they] will meet misfortune. So [people
must] detach [their] aversion from everything not up to [them] (Epictetus, 12). People must not
dwell on uncontrollable courses of events, like death, because it places their wills in opposition to
the will of the gods, resulting in suffering. However, when people accept that death is an intentional
aspect of the gods immaculate set up of the universe, they bring their wills in agreement with the
gods wills and may live with composure.
In addition, Epictetus argues that people must remember that human life in the gods well and just
universe is a transitory gift from the gods, which justifies its preordained revocation death. In other
words, as long as life is given to humans by the gods, people must take care of it as something that
is not [their] own, just as

  • 3. The Wretched Of The Earth Political Resistance According to The Wretched of the Earth, violence becomes the only approach to help the colonized people to achieve self defined identity and national consciousness (Blecker, 2013). When the colonials commanded Hong Kong people to maintain where colonialism has assigned them, Hong Kong resisted instead of following the order. There were two symbolic movements that reflected Hong Kongers discontent with British and Chinese governments policies. The movement that conveyed Hong Kong people s discontent with the British colonial government is the Hong Kong Leftist riots in 1967. After the breakout of the Cultural Revolution in China, pro communist leftists in Hong Kong actively found opportunities to cause conflicts against the colonial government. The labor disputes at the Hong Kong Artificial Flower Factory were a perfect time to instigate Hong Kong people to oppose its colonial government. Our group chose to conduct an experiment that proves that students prefer Starbucks to Kaldi s. They included: how old are you, what school are you in, what gender are you, do you prefer Starbucks or Kaldi s, do you enjoy a treat with your drink, do you prefer a store or out in the open, how many drinks do you get in a week, and what drives your choice. My response to the story Why Leaves Turn Color in the fall by Diane Ackermans, is that it made me feel emotional the way the author expressed life in a metaphor. For example, the author uses an imprint of a leaf in a fossil stone to show evidence of previous life on Earth. The fossil stone addresses the life cycle. Life persists on although plants, animals, and people perish. A thing that stood out to me was that the author uses nature s seasons to relate to the life cycle of human beings. I believe the author s purpose on describing the way that leaves change colors and fall off trees in autumn is to compare to how the body changes in order to reach death; one day the leaves are colorful and vibrant, and the next day they wither and die. ... Through the work of many people, more is known about other cultures values than perhaps ever before. Geert Hofstedeis one of these people, and his work has allowed for a greater understanding of cultural values across a wide range of dimensions. His work has grown from four dimensions to six, and as more information is gathered this will perhaps increase as well. In the first section, the first four dimensions of cultural values will be discussed briefly. Next, all six dimensions will be given for the United States (US) and Japan, and will be considered according to the highest and lowest differences between dimensions of these two countries cultural values. In addition, considerations for applying motivational theories toward individuals from these two countries will also be discussed. Lastly, a single dimension will be selected for each country and a recommendation given accordingly that could help improve performance. Four Dimensions of Cultural Values Latham (2012) outlines four of the broad categories of Hofstede s cultural dimensions, including low high power distance, individualism collectivism, masculinity femininity, and uncertainty avoidance, which will be discussed here. When fish populations are low in one area, fishing boats will need to move to another area where fish are more abundant. This renders oceans and their sea life helpless and severely damaged until all of the fish in the oceans are completely gone. That is why governments need laws establishing the length of time a person could spend at sea fishing, in order to reduce overfishing and increase recovery of fish populations. One example of a fish population suffering from overfishing is the Pacific bluefin tuna. Overfishing has left the world with less than five percent of its Pacific Bluefin tuna, says the Pew Environment Group (Kowalski). This statement explains to the world how overfishing can drastically decrease a species population in an extraordinarily short time period. The Pacific bluefin tuna and other fish are very much stressed by overfishing, and suffer severe losses of population every day. Moreover, overfishing will soon lead to the extinction of fish species like the Pacific bluefin tuna. Studies suggest that by 12 years of age, the average child has witnessed over 100,000 acts of violence just on television alone (Bartholow, Anderson, 2001). Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, author of the book On Killing and Director of the Killology Group, compares video game violence to the desensitizing process the United States military uses to mentally prepare soldiers for combat. Grossman argues that steady and repeated exposure to violent acts can cause the human mind to rationalize and accept the behavior; a person becomes conditioned to the violence and associates it to normal conduct (Grossman, Christensen, 2004). Grossman suggests that this operant conditioning is made more dangerous in the fact that it is administered without discipline and character development, which are the safeguards used in the military setting (Grossman, Christensen, 2004). In this paper, we would discuss the GDI logic and its application in the modeling of adders for Vedic Multiplier design. Adders are of prime importance, the design of reliable and efficient adder for a VLSI based embedded application matters. This paper primarily deals with the design of Ripple Carry Adder, Kogge Stone Adder, and Brent Kung Adder using CMOS and GDI logic. Urdhava Triyagbhayam sutra is used... GDI LOGIC Gate Diffusion Input (GDI) logic is a low power Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) design technique which was introduced as an alternative to CMOS logic design. This technique is a two transistor implementation of complex logic functions; Logic functions can be designed with fewer gates. GDI provides in cell swing restoration when operated in certain conditions and use of restoration buffers. Digital circuits designed using GDI logic will have less power consumption occupy a minimum area, gate count and delay in the circuit is reduced. Because of fewer gates, there is less design complexity.GDI cell is as shown in the below figure 2.1 GDI cell looks similar to the CMOS inverter but the major difference is that the GDI cell has one PMOS and NMOS transistors connected in cascade resulting in three input terminals N, P, G. where N is the input terminal of NMOS, P is input to the PMOS and G is connected to the common gate of NMOS and PMOS. These terminals could be given a supply VDD or Grounded or input signal depending on the circuit design. In conventional CMOS inverter circuit, the PMOS and NMOS diffusion inputs are always either VDD or Ground Figure 2.1 Basic logic functions of GDI cell are as shown in the table below. New York, however, was founded because the Dutch were seeking great riches; although Henry Hudson, an English explorer they employed, did not find a shortcut through North America, he did claim the land for the Dutch. The structure of intelligence is best subdivided into two significant categories. They are environmental and hereditary influences. Environmental differences can be divided into different factors. The deprivation model of social class and intelligence consists of three variables. These variables explain, in terms of environmental factors, development and performance which are correlated with social status. The first of these variables consists of the combination of birth order, nutrition, and prenatal care. Children who are first born, on average score better on mental tests. In the wake of the oil spill, however, BP proved that it was not on the right track despite the proclamation to its constituents of the exact opposite. There is a popular adage almost doesn t count. BP s investment in research directed toward minimizing negative environmental impact while conducting business and accomplishing major undertakings such as the Forties Field and Trans Alaska pipelines was a move in the right direction. BP s follow through with the declarations the company made to its stakeholders was severely lacking, however, and proved to be detrimental. It s also important to take this approach in order to understand what s misunderstood about online bullying as a whole. Boyd (2010) states that if we are to know if online platforms act as a tool for teenagers to perpetuate violence in the real world , we must look at what they are doing online. Boyd finds that bullying does not dramatically go up or down when social media is introduced (Boyd 2015, 152). Digital spaces that are important in the lives of youth need to be understand both locally, and in global contexts. Mallan, Ashford and Singh s (2010) article discusses iscapes as a way for todays youth to hang out or communicate. The authors seek to answer the question, how do interactions across iscapes affect the identity work carried out by today s youth. ( Mallan et al. 2010, 265). Decheneaut et al. (2010) looks at an immersive ethnography in several online digital worlds. Bonilla and Rosa state boldly that by using social media as their platform, subscribers can demand public attention, and garner the attention from anthropologists by using hashtags (Bonilla et al. 2015, 5). Compare and contrast this attitude with the attitude of another figure we have studied in the course (e.g., Hector, Achilles, Antigone, Socrates). Do you accept either of these attitudes? Why In his handbook, Epictetus asserts that the gods created a perfectly just universe. Humans must align their beliefs with the wills of the gods and acquiesce to whatever happens in the world. People must understand that death, like the rest of the universe s events, is a deliberate element of the gods world. Therefore, people should want [events] to happen as they do happen, and [their] life will go well (Epictetus, 13). When people shape their perception of death in accordance with the gods wills, they are able to maintain equanimity. On the other hand, Epictetus argues, If [people] are averse to illness or death or poverty, [they] will meet misfortune. So [people must] detach [their] aversion from everything not up to [them] (Epictetus, 12). People must not dwell on uncontrollable courses of events, like death, because it places their wills in opposition to the will of the gods, resulting in suffering. However, when people accept that death is an intentional aspect of the gods immaculate set up of the universe, they bring their wills in agreement with the gods wills and may live with composure. In addition, Epictetus argues that people must remember that human life in the gods well and just universe is a transitory gift from the gods, which justifies its preordained revocation death.
