employed with Kearney Company, P.C. (Kearney), I was assigned the responsibility of acting as a
member on the prime contractor s (MAXIMUS) Social Committee. As an active member of the
committee, my colleagues and I were tasked with promoting collaboration amongst the
subcontractors. While hosting a variety of events successfully boosted morale throughout the office,
the committee agreed that we should do more. As it was the holiday season, we decided to display a
giving tree in the office which had ornaments hanging on it with different items requested by families
in need currently staying at the Heartly House. Located in Frederick, Maryland, the Heartly House
provides comprehensive services for victims and survivors of domestic violence. The tree was a great
success. In just four short weeks, the employees from all of the subcontractors united and purchased
every item on the tree. The families at the Heartly House were able to enjoy the holiday season

Harold Pinter´s Among the Hidden and the Theme of Propaganda
It s so easy for propaganda to work, and dissent to be mocked, believes Harold Pinter, Nobel Prize
winning English playwright, screenwriter, director and actor. Various propaganda from the totalitarian
government of Among the Hidden will affect citizens, baron or farmer. Either way, there will be
attempts to voice other sides of the story. The government is spreading lies about the population
police; their deceptive ways will change citizen s lives.
Luke is the third child of a farmer s family, and propaganda deeply interfered with his life. Ever since
he was a toddler, he was obliged to a strict set of rules from his paranoid parents. Then they started
running all that on TV about the Population Police, how the Population Police had ways of finding out
everything, how they d do anything to enforce the law... And your dad started hearing rumors in town,
about other babies... (10 11) Luke s mother replied to his questioning. His mother was telling him
about the government s propaganda, the propaganda they had believed. Luke s parents fell right into
the government s trap of lies. Therefore, Luke was forbidden from watching TV, using the computer,
or calling someone on the phone, blocking him from the outside world. Being a farmer s third child
practically meant Luke was clueless when it came to real life. The doctrines of the government
changed Luke s life.
Barons were impacted, in a distinct way. They say. But everybody knows the Government s not that

Cultural Contributions Of Healer s Association To Bram Stoker
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Transylvania is it s association to Bram Stokers,
Dracula, however for such a small area of land, its at times cloudy history with it blends the beautiful
Carpathian landscape creating a feeling of enchantment when gazing up pictures of Transylvania.
Besides for my grandparents being born in Transylvania, I have always been intrigued by its rough yet
resilient history. Its cultural history consists of multiple heritages due to its geographic location
through time. Its important to remember that for centuries, despite being a small area, the area of
Transylvania has always been extremely divers. From the beginning of written history up until post

Stricter Gun Control Laws
Do stricter gun control laws, equal less violence and death rates in America?
Gun control (or firearms regulation) is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale,
transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians (Wikipedia). Some presume that this
means banning guns. In actuality, gun control only acts to protect citizens through enforcing the
appropriate use of firearms; it does not ban the weapon. By implementing stricter gun laws and
regulations, there would be a large decrease in death rates and help prevent violence in America.
For instance, the United States Constitution Second Amendment declares that everyone has the right
to bear arms . The United States Constitution was written with the intention of securing all United
States citizens basic rights. Its purpose is to outline the laws of this country by mandating the powers
of the people and what the United States government considers acceptable. Despite this, people feel
the introduction of stricter gun control laws would deny them their sense of safety by violating their
right to defend themselves by the law of the Second Amendment. By allowing everyone including
criminals the ability to gain ownership of a weapon, increases violence and death rates in America.
Therefore, stricter gun control laws and regulations should be implemented. Furthermore, many
people feel that guns are not causing the problems, people that are using these weapons are. This is
partially true.

Essay Manual vs Automatic Transmission
Manual vs. Automatic Transmission
You want to get a new car, but you are not sure whether to get one with an automatic transmission or
one with a manual transmission. Well read on and perhaps this essay will help you out with your
decision. Cars have played a big role in my life. When I was a little kid my dad and I used to work on
his 197? Ford Granada. Every time something would go wrong with the car he would ask me to help
him fix it. Not because I knew much about cars, because I didn t know anything about the subject, but
because he wanted me to learn about cars and spend some time with me. Or maybe he just didn t want
me to get ripped off at a garage when something went wrong with my car. Either way, we spent a lot
of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Automatic transmissions, however, do not have this problem; they do not roll back on hills. A benefit
of manual transmissions is acceleration. Cars with manual transmissions accelerate more rapidly and
evenly than automatic transmissions, if you know exactly when to shift. Automatic transmissions
accelerate a little slower. One very important con on automatic transmissions is that it gives much
lesser mileage. Manual transmissions do not use any power from the engine to change gears, because
you do that your self, thus saving you money. Another advantage on a car with a manual transmission
is that, if your battery dies, you do not need jumper cables and an additional car. All you have to do to
start up a car, with a manual transmission and a battery failure, is to push it to a reasonable speed
(walking speed) and then jump in and start the vehicle.
The manual gearbox just gives you a lot more control over your car. Like safermotoring.co.uk says, on
one of their reports, Many veteran drivers who have experience of both types of transmission systems
insist that a vehicle with a manual gearbox is safer because it gives them more control. I mean I don t
know about you, but for me the more control I have over my car the better. Another con on automatic
transmissions is that they are just boring to drive. I may be a little bias, because of the simple fact that
I like manual transmissions a lot better than automatics, but statistics never lie.

Oresteia
Oresteia The Issue of Justice in Aeschylus Eumenides
The concept of justice is manifested through the three plays of Aeschylus Oresteia. The old tradition
of justice, the private blood feud, caused an ungoverned succession of violent acts that spiralled
uncontrollably. Aegisthus, Clytemnestra s lover, is introduced in Agamemnon; he desires vengeance
for the plot contrived by Agamemnon s father (Ag: 1605 1611).1 Neither Agamemnon nor Aegisthus
took part in this plot and yet as the chorus explains (Ag: 755 6)
But ancient Violence longs to breed,
new violence comes
when its fatal hour comes,
The justice system of this period demanded that one avenge the death of a family member, this can be
seen in The Libation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the violent acts of reprisal do not end with Agamemnon. With this act comes a twist within
the traditional system of justice. In The Libation Bearers, Orestes must choose to avenge his father s
murder. The twist comes in that by avenging his father, Orestes will be committing matricide, a crime
revolting to the gods and especially to the Furies. Orestes is placed in a no win situation; he must
avenge his father or else be plagued by (Lib: 285 6)
.................leprous boils that ride the flesh,
their wild teeth gnawing the mother tissue,
Unfortunately, the same fate awaits him if he commits matricide, thereby avenging his father. Orestes
chooses the latter and is besieged by the hounds of mother s hate. (Lib: 1055 6). Through this
sequence of murderous events, Aeschylus demonstrates the complexity and futility of the blood feud
as a system of justice. There are no winners, and the cycle of violence does not end. Thus, this cycle of
vengeance is not justice.
In the Eumenides, Aeschylus manifests a new system of justice for the more civilised times. Orestes,
plagued by the Furies, turns to Apollo (Eum: 88 90)
Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice
know them well. Now learn

Taste Buds Research Paper
The tongue, soft palate, and epiglottis are covered with structures known as taste buds, or lingual
papillae, that allow humans to sense different tastes in the foods they eat. They are chemoreceptors,
meaning that they transduce, or translate, chemical signals in food into electrical signals in the body.
These electrical signals, called action potentials, travel to the brain via the nervous system, allowing
us to experience the sensation of taste. Taste buds are known as direct chemoreceptors, meaning that
they must make direct contact with the chemicals in food in order for us to taste. Distance
chemoreceptors, on the other hand, such as those that sense smells, do not need to make direct contact
with chemicals.
There are five distinct tastes that can be registered by the taste buds, but whether each one can sense
one or many tastes is not known. The ability to sense each taste is present in all areas of the mouth.
The five tastes are salty, sweet, bitter, sour, and umami or savory each linked to a specific chemical in
foods. In general, humans have evolved to find salty, sweet, and umami foods pleasant, while sour and
bitter foods are usually unpleasant. This is because sour and bitter tastes may indicate rotten food or
poison, while nutritious, high calorie foods usually taste salty, sweet, or savory. ... Show more content

Salty foods contain the chemical sodium chloride (NaCl), commonly called table salt, each molecule
of which is composed of a positively charged sodium ion and a negatively charged chlorine ion. The
sodium ions trigger ion channels in the taste buds, changing the electrical charge of the cells and
beginning an action potential. Similarly, sour foods contain acids, which have positively charged
hydrogen ions that create an action potential in taste

Selflessness In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
Adolescents are always encouraged to avoid conformity and the peer pressure placed upon them.
However, adolescents are given the impression that these demands will fade with their youth. When in
fact, society never ceases to force conformity and break individual spirits.
Ayn Rand takes the supremacy of the individual to a whole new level, shattering the idea that altruism
and good works prove true selflessness. In fact, The Fountainhead presents the notion that true
selflessness lies within a selfish nature. Like an iterated function, the two paradoxical qualities feed in
to one another. As an individual becomes more selfish by satisfying self interest in defiance of society,
he or she becomes more virtuous, a word with a connotation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dominique Francon, an individualist parallel to Roark, who is also his lover, comments eloquently on
each character s relationship to the individual. She describes Roark s temple as one that worships
humanity and its potential, not acknowledging a higher spirit or supernatural deity. Howard Roark
built a temple to the human spirit. He saw man as strong, proud, clean, wise, and fearless. He saw man
as a heroic being (365). Any temple Roark wishes to visit would only worship mankind and it s future
possibilities. Since he never wavers from his philosophical belief system and architectural premises,
he erects the Stoddard Temple not as the masses wish to see it, but as he knows it should be seen.
Ellsworth M. Toohey on the other hand, wastes no time degrading Roark s building to both the masses
and his employer. The abhorrence of the temple spreads like an infection. Each single member of
society begins to believe the edifice is an example of heresy until the entire masses maintain the same
opinion, cultivated by no other than Ellsworth Monkton Toohey. Dominique explains his reaction as a

A Closer Look at Serial Killers What comes to mind when you hear the words Homicide in American
? For most in society, an image of a bloody crime scene or a smoking gun comes to mind. However,
there is a form of homicide that, due to its individuality, society has put it into a category of its very
own; this is known as serial murder. Serial murder is the rarest form of homicide, although it has
become widely popular (Haggerty Ellerbrok, 2001). From the very beginning society has been

Myths about Serial Killers
The phenomenon of serial killers has attracted immense attention from the public, to the media, and
has even crawled its way into Hollywood. Unfortunately because of their glorified fame, many myths
about serial murderers have surfaced. It is important that the facts are known instead of incorrect
information that backslides the understanding of the problem itself. The following list is that of the
more popular myths about serial murderers and the facts that correct these myths. 1. Everyone is at
danger from a serial killer. The problem with this myth is that serial killers have a specific victim
typology that they target. They do not just target victims at random, there is always some method to
their madness. For example, the elderly is not normally targeted by serial murders and serial murders
are known to be more prevalent in urban areas rather than in rural areas (Holmes Holmes, pg. 10). 2.
The FBI is involved in a serial murder cases. This myth can be attributed to television and the many
shows that air showing the FBI and their specialized division, the Behavioral Analysis Unit, helping to
solve serial murder cases. In truth,

Social Conformity Of The 1950 s
The social conformity of the 1950s can best be described as a traditional family that abides by their
gender roles. Essentially, the 1950s were when people could finally take advantage of the new time
consuming inventions and economic boosts after having experienced WWII and the Great Depression.
However, the social conformity was just the general overview of the 1950s but poverty, racism, and
alienation still persisted. The resistance against social conformity was expressed by rebellion
including occurrences like the Empire Zinc Strike, the Mendez v. Westminster case, and Montgomery
Bus Boycott. Particularly, the Empire Zinc Strike of 1951 was when Mexican American mine workers
were being discriminated in terms of working conditions and

Columbine High School Shooting And Virginia Tech...
Taking a look at the Columbine high school shooting and the Virginia Tech University shooting, they
followed different and similar situations. When these events occurred they both reached the record of
worst mass shootings in U.S. history. On April 20, 1999, the Columbine shooting occurred early
morning in which most of the students had already filled the school. The columbine shooters
intentions to murder the students at the school were pre meditated and were determined to destroy as
much lives as possible. As for the Virginia tech shooting, it occurred 4 days before the 8th anniversary
of the columbine shooting in which the shooter also referenced the two columbine shooters, Eric
Harris and Dylan Klebold. As the events developed throughout the morning, they both conquered one
goal, fear amongst all students and faculty. On the morning of April 20, 1999 Eric and Dylan took the
lives of 13 innocent people, 12 students and 1 teacher and needless to say wounded dozens. Their
plans began just a year before the massacre and it possibly could have been prevented. The duo had
gotten arrested the previous year due to them stealing electronics from a van. Throughout the year
they recorded all of their plans in videos, journals and established signs in their school work. In these
videos they also included an apology to their parents for the pain they were going to bring. As their
time came to unravel their raged expressions, they purchased guns and ammo and created homemade

Romeo And Juliet Love
Ever since Romeo and Juliet was written, people have debated whether it was written to be a love
story or a tragedy. The play is centered around a romantic relationship, which may cause some to
believe it to be a love story. However, Romeo and Juliet show tragic themes as well as themes of love.
This play can be considered both, but even so, it shows more elements of being a tragedy than a love
story. In the just prologue alone, the play establishes the fate of our main characters, Romeo and Juliet.

MONTANA 1948 ESSAY ANTHONY TODARO Essay Topic: This novel has much to teach us about

1948 is a novel based on a 12 year old boy named David Hayden. The story is written as though David
Hayden is recounting back on his former life, to where he lived in a small town named Bentrock, in
Mercer County, Montana. The novel teaches us a lot about justice and injustice. The use of power is

shows racism from a negative perspective. Whilst many of the characters in the Novel portray racism

affection for Marie. The Indian community is depicted in an undesirable perception amongst the
Hayden men. The racial discrimination publicized all through the Hayden boys is handed down

that his father believes that Indians with only a few exceptions were, ignorant, lazy, superstitious and

How Did Tchaikovsky Contribute To Ballet
According to George Dorris, classical ballet music can be divided into two big eras: the years of the
classical multi act ballets and the two decades of the Diaghilev era ; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky falls
into the first one, which lasted from Coppelia in 1870 to Raymonda in 1898. He is certainly one of the
mainstays in Russian ballet; his creative works make him the first really gifted professional musician
who put an end to the domination of amateurism in Russia. His most popular and famous works
include The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and The Sleeping Beauty.
Sergei Lifar noted in his article that Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty were retained in Diaghilev s
(founder of the Ballet Russes) repertory in early 20th century, even though these productions were
rather unpopular in Paris during that period. Today, these Russian ballets from Tchaikovsky are ...

Romeo And Juliet Doomed In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare tells the story of two people in love, both from wealthy
families who hate each other. Romeo comes from the Montague family, while Juliet comes from the
Capulet family. Although the reasoning for the feud between their families is unknown, it results in
many young people killing each other. The story ends tragically with Romeo and Juliet both killing
themselves, but this only happens because of the feud between their parents. Romeo and Juliet
unexpectedly meet during a party and later, once they realize who the other is and the family they
come from, they know the relationship is doomed. After Juliet figures out that the mysterious man she
met at her father s party was Romeo, she says My only love sprung from my only hate! She says this
because her family and Romeo s family hate each other, but she is in love with Romeo. Since Romeo

Investigating The Co2 And Temperature Changes From The...
In this investigation, we were required to design our own self sustaining ecosystem, and monitor the
changes in temperature and CO2 levels. We compared the outside temperature and CO2 levels, to
those of our ecosystem. Self sustaining ecosystems are in the process of being designed tested, so that
one day humans will be able to survive and thrive on other planets, like Mars. The outcome of our
ecosystem was a failure, like all other previous attempts. Our ecosystem was too hot and had too
higher CO2 levels, to be able to sustain the life of insects, and grow plants. This was because, we did
not have enough fresh water, going into all the layers and fresh oxygen, as a result of no greenery
growing. I believe, if we placed grown plants in our bottle at the start of our experiment, we would
have had a very different outcome. Aim:
In this practical we are going to investigate the CO2 and temperature changes from the outside
environment, compared to our ecosystem in a bottle. We are also creating a fully self sustaining
ecosystem in a bottle, which needs to grow a type of plant and provide a habitable environment for an
insect/animal.
Hypothesis:
I believe that the temperature and CO2 levels inside our ecosystem will be a lot higher than outside
the bottle. I also do not think that our insects or plants will survive and thrive, because there is not
enough oxygen in the bottle, and it is too hot. Other groups that have plants and water in their bottle,
will have lower CO2

The Culture Of Aboriginal Australians
Demolishing the Culture of Aboriginal Australians In Australia before the late eighteenth century, the
native Aboriginal people s unique culture flourished, fostering a great sense of pride within its
inhabitants. The Aborigines were able to familiarize themselves with their geographical surroundings,
which in turn helped them to obtain food, while simultaneously upholding their many traditional
spiritual and ancestral beliefs. Many native songs, dances, and collections of art were referenced by
the Aborigines in their Dreamtime , a collection of cultural stories that connected the spiritual world to
their modern world and its creation. These stories conveyed the importance of treating nature with
respect, a view that starkly contrasted with European philosophy. The Aboriginal people thrived in the
terrain of Australia for nearly 40,000 years before British colonization in 1788. Many distinct tribes
lived throughout Australia, and the Aboriginal population peaked at 500,000 people in the 1780 s
during the pre colonization era. During the early stages of their colonization of Australia, European
forces did not intend to harm the Aboriginals, but due to Europe s unrelenting racism and Social
Darwinism, the Aboriginal culture was eventually obliterated. During their first European explorations
of the Australian Continent, Captains Willem Jansz, James Cook, and Arthur Phillip had no intention
of obstructing the Aboriginal peoples way of life. In 1606, Dutch fleets led by

Recoil Pad Benefits
In my 18 years of being a shooter, I realized the benefit of having a great recoil pad. Having a recoil
pad for both a wood or synthetic stock will increase a shooters precision, comfort and reduce pain.
Replacing a recoil pad is a common job that may need to be installed or just slipped onto the
buttstock. Depending on its thickness, a recoil pad may increase the shooters pull or modify the fitting.
The overall goal should be to find a recoil pad that will allow the shooter ease of use, reduce the recoil
and have compatibility with the rifle or shotgun if it s not a universal pad.
Customizing the fit of the recoil pad is easily done with a rubberized slip over device or may require a
few hand tools if it s a customization issue rather than

Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Analysis
As I trudged through the halls of Wolfson Children s Hospital, I slowly sipped on a white, chalky
liquid. My doctor tried to persuade me it would taste identical to the sweet and refreshing Crystal
Light drink, but with every swallow, my stomach became more and more queasy, and I was not
convinced. This large drink that took me what felt like days to finish was part of the upper
gastrointestinal series and just one of the many tests I was subject to on the long journey of being
diagnosed with the rare disorder, Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. This illness kept me up night after night
with severe nausea leading to vomiting every ten to fifteen minutes, and ultimately a trip to the

As my mom would wheel me through the hospital, the amount of people I saw suffering from various
sicknesses crushed my heart. Even though witnessing this multiple times first hand was incredibly
hard, it gave me an intense compassion and a love to want to help others. Two years ago, I had the
privilege to attend a mission trip to Costa Rica with my church. One day, while staying in the small,
impoverished town of Alajuelita we visited an orphanage for children with disabilities. As soon as I
walked into the building, my eyes immediately fell upon a beautiful, young girl who was squirming on
her bed while yelling at the top of her lungs. I was informed that she was unable to communicate with

Due To The Transaction Costs Being Lower Through Online
Due to the transaction costs being lower through online channels allows for companies to offer
individual products that were previously only sold as part of bundles. The advent of online stores such
as Apple s iTunes music meant music was now sold in the form of individual tracks as opposed to the
previous model of the singular album. The ready availability form of singles, raises the question as to
whether a number of songs on an album still matters, does it mean the track listing becomes a thing of
the past and can hit songs now be relied upon to generate profits as opposed to the declining album
format?

Steve Jobs claimed that Apple s 0.99 solutions would be the model for selling and distributing digital
music files online in post Napster world (Jobs,2003)
Digital formats promote the disaggregation of music (Bakos 1997, Drew 2005)
Disaggregation carries the challenges for the overall integrity of the album as the most leading form of
music products. It also allows for different types of showcasing and retailing music in the way that
reaggregates into new forms of commodified packages.
Radiohead s initial resistance to appearing on the iTunes store was because the band refused to sell
songs individually, because it wanted to keep the album, as an artistic statement, whole (Van Buskirk,
2007)
The splintering of music has, in turn, created a multitude of repackaging options for music.
Playlists haven t displaced the album, but they have however relegated it to just of the many ways in
which people choose to consume music.
The fundamental difference between digital downloads and physical goods. In terms of digital, the
consumer is not limited to tracks that the label decides to issue as singles. Every track is available for
individual download. The numbers overwhelmingly show that consumers prefer being able to buy the
only tracks they want.

Essay on The Three Witches in Macbeth
The three witches in the tragedy Macbeth are introduced right at the beginning of the play. The scene
opens with the witches chanting three prophesies: Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, Thane of Glamis
and King. These prophesies introduce Macbeth to his plan of defeat and to over power. Macbeth will
eventually follow through in killing king Duncan. Some people believe that the witches had the ability
to reverse the order of things. This brings into the play idea of fate and the role with which it has in the
play. One can only wonder if Macbeth ever had a chance of doing what was right after he met with the
witches. It is however, more realistic to believe that Macbeth was responsible for his own actions
throughout the play and in the end, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lady Macbeth manipulates at Macbeth s self esteem by playing on his manliness and his bravery. This
then convinces Macbeth to kill the king..Macbeth is like a child who is easily gudied. Lady Macbeth

becomes the dominating one. Lady Macbeth becomes very obedient. She becomes pathetic and only a
shadow of her former self. Where she used to be manipulative and stong willed she is now weak and
is unable to control Macbeth.

ambition that drives them. Lady Macbeth s ambition drives her to manipulate Macbeth into

Suffering In Cormac Mccarthy s Blood Meridian
There is a horde of explanations pertaining to the epilogue of Blood Meridian. The short passage has
sparked ideas of the idealistic human nature of suffering, the search for enlightenment through
Gnosticism, and the subtle persuasion that lies beneath eloquent language, both in Judge Holden s
claims and Cormac McCarthy s narration. It is important, before delving into these ideas, that the
passage is recounted.
In the dawn there is a man progressing over the plain by means of holes that he is making in the
ground. He uses an implement with two handles and he chucks it into the hole and he enkindles the
stone in the hole with his steel hole by hole striking the fire out of the rock which God has put there.
On the plain behind him are the wanderers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has no desire to alleviate human suffering, or to intervene in humanity s slow self destruction; he
only watches. McCarthy uses these ideas as a platform for the bizarre atmosphere of the West, calling
into question why a creator in favor of humanity would create a place so desolate and violent. The
man in the epilogue is described as striking the fire out of the rock which God has put there,
suggesting that he is a pneumatic (Someone who understands the true state of the cosmos and the
nature of the nameless Alien God ) who frees the sparks of the divine fire trapped in matter or rock by
the God of this world, the demiurge. Within the context of Gnosticism, the steel of the man s tool
causes sparks as he digs; each hole dispersing these sparks into the cosmos and restoring unity to the
Alien God. This difficult process is one of salvation, and the pneumatics task is a long and ongoing
one, as each spark that dies without escaping to the alien God is thrown back into its realm, and thus
they all move on again like clockwork, presumably until the last bit of fire has been freed from the
rocks. In this framework, those who have not attained spiritual enlightenment follow the man and the
holes he s making. Those who search for bones are followers of religions that claim that all will be
revealed in the afterlife. These wanderers look to the empty promise of death for salvation, not
realizing that without Gnosis (Gnostic enlightenment) they will be flung back into the manifest world,
life after life. The ones who do not search are the materialists, content with the achievement of wealth
and power, who are even less awakened to Gnosis than those who search for answers in bones. Both
parties move haltingly in the light like mechanisms because they do not posses free will, and display
themselves as

Gun Control vs. Crime Rate

Gun Control vs. Crime Rate According to the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United
States of America, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of
the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed. In this very amendment lies the main issue of
gun control. To many, the language of the amendment appears to grant to the people the absolute right
to bear arms. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that the amendment merely protects the right
of states to form a state militia. (Kimberlin) Gun control, or the controlling of firearms, is any act or

The gunman then ran and took his own life (Benner, 2012). The latter side of the debate shows how
civilians are capable of stopping a crime before the police are able to arrive. Some even claim that
more guns will help to control the crime and prevent mass shootings from occurring. (Wicked) After
being subjected to so much information, how is the reader to know which side is right? According to
Wicked, This can be a difficult question to answer and requires detailed analysis to come to an
informed decision. Studies that have been done on the issue of gun control have found many things
that gun control affects and many things that it does not affect. One key item that studies have found is
that gun control laws affect the use of specific guns in violent crimes, but do not affect the rate of
crime itself. The controlling of firearms by either banning the sale, transfer, importation, or
manufacture of, as well as controlling the amount of ammunition available and the storage of that
ammunition, is irrelevant to the reduction of violent crime.
When debating the effect that a particular law, or ban of item, has on the rate of violent crime, it is
beneficial to look back at the effect that laws and bans similar to these have had on the crime rate
throughout history. The 1994 Assault Weapons ban which Dianne Feinstein proposed and that of
which Congress passed would be a prime example. This ban specifically selected fire arms

My Experience Of My Life
It was the summer of 15. Filled with travel, laughter, and smiles. But, at that time I didn t pay attention
or even cherish those moments. Now, I truly know how much I miss the feeling of being that happy all
the time. School was out. Everyone just waiting for the clock to hit the 12, that s when everything in
my life changed. It was my first time going on my airplane. My first time being in a car for more than
8 hours. It was my very first firsts. I m not going to lie. That scared me. You know. Experiencing
something for the first time. That s a tough job. But anyways, that s the background to this very
important part of my life. During this time, I saw happiness beaming off of everyone s face and saw
no bad in people. I wish I thought this way now. High School changed my perspective a lot. The stress
is at its ultimatum. It just doesn t want to stop. I constantly am in books, studying for a test, in books,
memorizing a poem, or in books because I generally have nothing to do. All I want is to go back to the
time that I explored something every day. With a friend or just with my family. Summer was great. I
also had my first experience at an overnight summer camp. Let me tell you more about that. The car
ride to the buses was filled with emotion. It was the first time that I would leave my family for a
whole week. I was still in the 7th grade so that was a big wave of independence instantly coming my
way. I honestly thought that I wasn t going to survive. What would I

The Emotions of Captivity in Psalm 137 Essay
The book of Psalms contains some of the most beloved pieces of scripture across centuries and
cultures of this world. Psalms have been frequently cited is sermons, devotionals, movies, poetry, and
songs. Most often, Psalms are attributed to King David of the 10th century BCE. But regardless of the
authorship of the different psalms, each seem to carry a special place in describing human
relationships to God, to country, to friends, to enemies and more. As time has progressed, certain
psalms have become favorites because of their encouraging and uplifting messages, such as the
timeless Psalm 23. However, other psalms are neglected in Christian circles because of the difficulty
they present in interpretation. Often, these psalms are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For there our captors demanded of us songs, And our tormentors mirth, saying, Sing us one of the
songs of Zion. How can we sing the Lord s song in a foreign land? If I forget you, O Jerusalem, May
my right hand forget her skill. May my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth. If I do not remember
you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem, above my chief joy. Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom the
day of Jerusalem, who said, Raze it, raze it, to its very foundation. O daughter of Babylon, you
devastated one, how blessed will be the one who repays you with the recompense with which you
have repaid us. How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock.
(Ps 137, NASB) It is not often that theologians can agree upon the date of authorship of a text, but
Psalm 137 is an exception. It is widely accepted that this psalm was written during or shortly after the
exilic waves of the Southern Kingdom during the Babylonian captivity of 597 BCE and 587 BCE ,
extending to 538 BCE . While no specific author is identified as the author of Psalm 137, it certainly is
not King David due to the time elapse from King David s reign and the Babylonian Captivity. The
anguish described in the beginning of the Psalm paired with the vengeful remarks at the end of the
Psalm, in addition to the reference to Babylon while the writer s heart longs for Zion undoubtedly
make this Psalm a description of the exile written during or shortly

Analysis Of The Book The Cat
A gunshot stirred the sleeping cat, jerking him awake. His unpleasant dream, filled him with horror as
he recalled the smell of burning firewood, boiling water, and the cruel laughter. His senses came back
to him as he found himself hanging from a log, upside down, his legs tied together. Battered and
bruised, the cat tried to remember why he was hanging on a piece of wood. As the cat s memory came
back slowly, he remembered himself fighting men, trying to escape their firm grip. One of the big men
lifted his oversized fist and connected it to the cat s hind legs. The feline shrieked in agony as the pain
shot up towards his body, and he fell into an unknown darkness. He frowned as he tried to remember
what had happened before the hunters came, but his mind was utterly blank. The cat blinked twice,
finally taking in his surroundings. Two men came towards the cat and lifted him over to an open
space. The cat looked below him and saw some wood. The men walked away, leaving the cat alone by
himself. He closed his eyes; his throbbing legs were becoming numb and he started to feel a sense of
dread, as he realized what would happen to him. The feline twitched as a stick prodded his bruised
body. An old man stood over the cat, grinning from ear to ear. The cat shuddered at the sight; the man
wore rags and looked as if he had never taken a bath in his life. His stench could be smelled from
miles away, and it angered the hanging cat. All of a sudden, the ancient man untied the

Laval. Rousseau grew up in a very tough, poor background with many struggles that which created
who he is. With his father being in great debt, he had to move out from his town. There he went to
school with below average grades, but still received prizes for his drawing and music skills. After his
father s death, Rousseau moved to Paris to help his widowed mother out. While in Paris, he found a
girl who he eventually married, but later ended up dying to tuberculosis. His wife s death is when he
began taking painting seriously, in which he later quit to paint only. Rousseau claims that he had no
teacher other than nature although did receive some tips from Felix Auguste Clement and Jean Lean
Gerome. With Rousseau self teaching himself, he obtained a unique technique in his art work.
The Eiffel Tower by Henri Rousseau was painted in 1898. The painting is a nice scene with a river in
the middle which has a light current. There are brown boats that are also in the water with fishermen
on the side of the wall fishing. To be exact, there are five people fishing, one on the left and four on
the right. On the sides of the river are green trees with piles of sand or rock next to them. On the right

As part of my assignment while employed with Kearney Company, P.C. (Kearney), I was assigned the responsibility of acting as a member on the prime contractor s (MAXIMUS) Social Committee. As an active member of the committee, my colleagues and I were tasked with promoting collaboration amongst the subcontractors. While hosting a variety of events successfully boosted morale throughout the office, the committee agreed that we should do more. As it was the holiday season, we decided to display a giving tree in the office which had ornaments hanging on it with different items requested by families in need currently staying at the Heartly House. Located in Frederick, Maryland, the Heartly House provides comprehensive services for victims and survivors of domestic violence. The tree was a great success. In just four short weeks, the employees from all of the subcontractors united and purchased every item on the tree. • 5. Harold Pinter´s Among the Hidden and the Theme of Propaganda It s so easy for propaganda to work, and dissent to be mocked, believes Harold Pinter, Nobel Prize winning English playwright, screenwriter, director and actor. Various propaganda from the totalitarian government of Among the Hidden will affect citizens, baron or farmer. Either way, there will be attempts to voice other sides of the story. The government is spreading lies about the population police; their deceptive ways will change citizen s lives. Luke is the third child of a farmer s family, and propaganda deeply interfered with his life. Ever since he was a toddler, he was obliged to a strict set of rules from his paranoid parents. Then they started running all that on TV about the Population Police, how the Population Police had ways of finding out everything, how they d do anything to enforce the law... And your dad started hearing rumors in town, about other babies... (10 11) Luke s mother replied to his questioning. His mother was telling him about the government s propaganda, the propaganda they had believed. Luke s parents fell right into the government s trap of lies. Therefore, Luke was forbidden from watching TV, using the computer, or calling someone on the phone, blocking him from the outside world. Being a farmer s third child practically meant Luke was clueless when it came to real life. The doctrines of the government changed Luke s life. Barons were impacted, in a distinct way. They say. But everybody knows the Government s not that competent, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Stricter Gun Control Laws Do stricter gun control laws, equal less violence and death rates in America? Gun control (or firearms regulation) is the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians (Wikipedia). Some presume that this means banning guns. In actuality, gun control only acts to protect citizens through enforcing the appropriate use of firearms; it does not ban the weapon. By implementing stricter gun laws and regulations, there would be a large decrease in death rates and help prevent violence in America. For instance, the United States Constitution Second Amendment declares that everyone has the right to bear arms . The United States Constitution was written with the intention of securing all United States citizens basic rights. Its purpose is to outline the laws of this country by mandating the powers of the people and what the United States government considers acceptable. Despite this, people feel the introduction of stricter gun control laws would deny them their sense of safety by violating their right to defend themselves by the law of the Second Amendment. By allowing everyone including criminals the ability to gain ownership of a weapon, increases violence and death rates in America. Therefore, stricter gun control laws and regulations should be implemented. Furthermore, many people feel that guns are not causing the problems, people that are using these weapons are. • 8. Essay Manual vs Automatic Transmission Manual vs. Automatic Transmission You want to get a new car, but you are not sure whether to get one with an automatic transmission or one with a manual transmission. Well read on and perhaps this essay will help you out with your decision. Cars have played a big role in my life. When I was a little kid my dad and I used to work on his 197? Ford Granada. Every time something would go wrong with the car he would ask me to help him fix it. Not because I knew much about cars, because I didn t know anything about the subject, but because he wanted me to learn about cars and spend some time with me. Or maybe he just didn t want me to get ripped off at a garage when something went wrong with my car. Either way, we spent a lot of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Automatic transmissions, however, do not have this problem; they do not roll back on hills. A benefit of manual transmissions is acceleration. Cars with manual transmissions accelerate more rapidly and evenly than automatic transmissions, if you know exactly when to shift. Automatic transmissions accelerate a little slower. One very important con on automatic transmissions is that it gives much lesser mileage. Manual transmissions do not use any power from the engine to change gears, because you do that your self, thus saving you money. Another advantage on a car with a manual transmission is that, if your battery dies, you do not need jumper cables and an additional car. All you have to do to start up a car, with a manual transmission and a battery failure, is to push it to a reasonable speed (walking speed) and then jump in and start the vehicle. The manual gearbox just gives you a lot more control over your car. Like safermotoring.co.uk says, on one of their reports, Many veteran drivers who have experience of both types of transmission systems insist that a vehicle with a manual gearbox is safer because it gives them more control. I mean I don t know about you, but for me the more control I have over my car the better. Another con on automatic transmissions is that they are just boring to drive. I may be a little bias, because of the simple fact that I like manual transmissions a lot better than automatics, but statistics never lie. As you can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Oresteia Oresteia The Issue of Justice in Aeschylus Eumenides The concept of justice is manifested through the three plays of Aeschylus Oresteia. The old tradition of justice, the private blood feud, caused an ungoverned succession of violent acts that spiralled uncontrollably. Aegisthus, Clytemnestra s lover, is introduced in Agamemnon; he desires vengeance for the plot contrived by Agamemnon s father (Ag: 1605 1611).1 Neither Agamemnon nor Aegisthus took part in this plot and yet as the chorus explains (Ag: 755 6) But ancient Violence longs to breed, new violence comes when its fatal hour comes, The justice system of this period demanded that one avenge the death of a family member, this can be seen in The Libation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the violent acts of reprisal do not end with Agamemnon. With this act comes a twist within the traditional system of justice. In The Libation Bearers, Orestes must choose to avenge his father s murder. The twist comes in that by avenging his father, Orestes will be committing matricide, a crime revolting to the gods and especially to the Furies. Orestes is placed in a no win situation; he must avenge his father or else be plagued by (Lib: 285 6) .................leprous boils that ride the flesh, their wild teeth gnawing the mother tissue, Unfortunately, the same fate awaits him if he commits matricide, thereby avenging his father. Orestes chooses the latter and is besieged by the hounds of mother s hate. (Lib: 1055 6). Through this sequence of murderous events, Aeschylus demonstrates the complexity and futility of the blood feud as a system of justice. There are no winners, and the cycle of violence does not end. Thus, this cycle of vengeance is not justice. In the Eumenides, Aeschylus manifests a new system of justice for the more civilised times. Orestes, plagued by the Furies, turns to Apollo (Eum: 88 90) Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice know them well. Now learn

  • 11. Taste Buds Research Paper The tongue, soft palate, and epiglottis are covered with structures known as taste buds, or lingual papillae, that allow humans to sense different tastes in the foods they eat. They are chemoreceptors, meaning that they transduce, or translate, chemical signals in food into electrical signals in the body. These electrical signals, called action potentials, travel to the brain via the nervous system, allowing us to experience the sensation of taste. Taste buds are known as direct chemoreceptors, meaning that they must make direct contact with the chemicals in food in order for us to taste. Distance chemoreceptors, on the other hand, such as those that sense smells, do not need to make direct contact with chemicals. There are five distinct tastes that can be registered by the taste buds, but whether each one can sense one or many tastes is not known. The ability to sense each taste is present in all areas of the mouth. The five tastes are salty, sweet, bitter, sour, and umami or savory each linked to a specific chemical in foods. In general, humans have evolved to find salty, sweet, and umami foods pleasant, while sour and bitter foods are usually unpleasant. This is because sour and bitter tastes may indicate rotten food or poison, while nutritious, high calorie foods usually taste salty, sweet, or savory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is certainly one of the mainstays in Russian ballet; his creative works make him the first really gifted professional musician who put an end to the domination of amateurism in Russia. Sergei Lifar noted in his article that Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty were retained in Diaghilev s (founder of the Ballet Russes) repertory in early 20th century, even though these productions were rather unpopular in Paris during that period. In this investigation, we were required to design our own self sustaining ecosystem, and monitor the changes in temperature and CO2 levels. We compared the outside temperature and CO2 levels, to those of our ecosystem. Self sustaining ecosystems are in the process of being designed tested, so that one day humans will be able to survive and thrive on other planets, like Mars. The outcome of our ecosystem was a failure, like all other previous attempts. Our ecosystem was too hot and had too higher CO2 levels, to be able to sustain the life of insects, and grow plants. This was because, we did not have enough fresh water, going into all the layers and fresh oxygen, as a result of no greenery growing. I believe, if we placed grown plants in our bottle at the start of our experiment, we would have had a very different outcome. Aim: In this practical we are going to investigate the CO2 and temperature changes from the outside environment, compared to our ecosystem in a bottle. We are also creating a fully self sustaining ecosystem in a bottle, which needs to grow a type of plant and provide a habitable environment for an insect/animal. Hypothesis: I believe that the temperature and CO2 levels inside our ecosystem will be a lot higher than outside the bottle. I also do not think that our insects or plants will survive and thrive, because there is not enough oxygen in the bottle, and it is too hot. • 33. Suffering In Cormac Mccarthy s Blood Meridian There is a horde of explanations pertaining to the epilogue of Blood Meridian. The short passage has sparked ideas of the idealistic human nature of suffering, the search for enlightenment through Gnosticism, and the subtle persuasion that lies beneath eloquent language, both in Judge Holden s claims and Cormac McCarthy s narration. It is important, before delving into these ideas, that the passage is recounted. In the dawn there is a man progressing over the plain by means of holes that he is making in the ground. He uses an implement with two handles and he chucks it into the hole and he enkindles the stone in the hole with his steel hole by hole striking the fire out of the rock which God has put there. On the plain behind him are the wanderers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has no desire to alleviate human suffering, or to intervene in humanity s slow self destruction; he only watches. McCarthy uses these ideas as a platform for the bizarre atmosphere of the West, calling into question why a creator in favor of humanity would create a place so desolate and violent. The man in the epilogue is described as striking the fire out of the rock which God has put there, suggesting that he is a pneumatic (Someone who understands the true state of the cosmos and the nature of the nameless Alien God ) who frees the sparks of the divine fire trapped in matter or rock by the God of this world, the demiurge. Within the context of Gnosticism, the steel of the man s tool causes sparks as he digs; each hole dispersing these sparks into the cosmos and restoring unity to the Alien God. This difficult process is one of salvation, and the pneumatics task is a long and ongoing one, as each spark that dies without escaping to the alien God is thrown back into its realm, and thus they all move on again like clockwork, presumably until the last bit of fire has been freed from the rocks. In this framework, those who have not attained spiritual enlightenment follow the man and the holes he s making. Those who search for bones are followers of religions that claim that all will be revealed in the afterlife. These wanderers look to the empty promise of death for salvation, not realizing that without Gnosis (Gnostic enlightenment) they will be flung back into the manifest world, life after life. The ones who do not search are the materialists, content with the achievement of wealth and power, who are even less awakened to Gnosis than those who search for answers in bones. Both parties move haltingly in the light like mechanisms because they do not posses free will, and display themselves as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Gun Control vs. Crime Rate Jessica Vickers Dr. Jonne Akens Engl 1302 25 February 2013 Gun Control vs. Crime Rate According to the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed. In this very amendment lies the main issue of gun control. To many, the language of the amendment appears to grant to the people the absolute right to bear arms. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that the amendment merely protects the right of states to form a state militia. The gunman then ran and took his own life (Benner, 2012). The latter side of the debate shows how civilians are capable of stopping a crime before the police are able to arrive. Some even claim that more guns will help to control the crime and prevent mass shootings from occurring. (Wicked) After being subjected to so much information, how is the reader to know which side is right? According to Wicked, This can be a difficult question to answer and requires detailed analysis to come to an informed decision. Studies that have been done on the issue of gun control have found many things that gun control affects and many things that it does not affect. One key item that studies have found is that gun control laws affect the use of specific guns in violent crimes, but do not affect the rate of crime itself. The controlling of firearms by either banning the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacture of, as well as controlling the amount of ammunition available and the storage of that ammunition, is irrelevant to the reduction of violent crime. When debating the effect that a particular law, or ban of item, has on the rate of violent crime, it is beneficial to look back at the effect that laws and bans similar to these have had on the crime rate throughout history. The 1994 Assault Weapons ban which Dianne Feinstein proposed and that of which Congress passed would be a prime example. This ban specifically selected fire arms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now, I truly know how much I miss the feeling of being that happy all the time. School was out. Everyone just waiting for the clock to hit the 12, that s when everything in my life changed. It was my first time going on my airplane. My first time being in a car for more than 8 hours. It was my very first firsts. I m not going to lie. That scared me. You know. Experiencing something for the first time. That s a tough job. But anyways, that s the background to this very important part of my life. During this time, I saw happiness beaming off of everyone s face and saw no bad in people. I wish I thought this way now. High School changed my perspective a lot. The stress is at its ultimatum. It just doesn t want to stop. I constantly am in books, studying for a test, in books, memorizing a poem, or in books because I generally have nothing to do. All I want is to go back to the time that I explored something every day. With a friend or just with my family. Summer was great. I also had my first experience at an overnight summer camp. Let me tell you more about that. The car ride to the buses was filled with emotion. It was the first time that I would leave my family for a whole week. Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom the day of Jerusalem, who said, Raze it, raze it, to its very foundation. O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one, how blessed will be the one who repays you with the recompense with which you have repaid us. How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock. (Ps 137, NASB) It is not often that theologians can agree upon the date of authorship of a text, but Psalm 137 is an exception. It is widely accepted that this psalm was written during or shortly after the exilic waves of the Southern Kingdom during the Babylonian captivity of 597 BCE and 587 BCE , extending to 538 BCE . While no specific author is identified as the author of Psalm 137, it certainly is not King David due to the time elapse from King David s reign and the Babylonian Captivity. The anguish described in the beginning of the Psalm paired with the vengeful remarks at the end of the Psalm, in addition to the reference to Babylon while the writer s heart longs for Zion undoubtedly make this Psalm a description of the exile written during or shortly ... • 37. Analysis Of The Book The Cat A gunshot stirred the sleeping cat, jerking him awake. His unpleasant dream, filled him with horror as he recalled the smell of burning firewood, boiling water, and the cruel laughter. His senses came back to him as he found himself hanging from a log, upside down, his legs tied together. Battered and bruised, the cat tried to remember why he was hanging on a piece of wood. As the cat s memory came back slowly, he remembered himself fighting men, trying to escape their firm grip. One of the big men lifted his oversized fist and connected it to the cat s hind legs. The feline shrieked in agony as the pain shot up towards his body, and he fell into an unknown darkness. He frowned as he tried to remember what had happened before the hunters came, but his mind was utterly blank. The cat blinked twice, finally taking in his surroundings. Two men came towards the cat and lifted him over to an open space. The cat looked below him and saw some wood. The men walked away, leaving the cat alone by himself. He closed his eyes; his throbbing legs were becoming numb and he started to feel a sense of dread, as he realized what would happen to him. The feline twitched as a stick prodded his bruised body. An old man stood over the cat, grinning from ear to ear. The cat shuddered at the sight; the man wore rags and looked as if he had never taken a bath in his life. His stench could be smelled from miles away, and it angered the hanging cat. All of a sudden, the ancient man untied the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
