Published in 1982, Willard Van Orman Quine wrote an epistemological book title, The Pursuit of
Truth. Quine ranges from different aspect, from evidence to reference, in his quest to gain
epistemological truth from science. This is a short summary of the book s contents then the latter
half of the paper is critique and review of the book and Quine s points within. In the first chapter
Quine, deals with the evidence and all things pertaining to it. He starts the chapter with the point
that evidence is based on sensory experience and that this combined with past experiences can
predict evidence of new things based on past experience, much like memory. He then talks about
what he calls observation sentences, this is the statement of evidence itself. Next, Quine gets into
how his definition of observation sentences is different than that of others who have defined it.
This is really big to Quine and it sets up a lot of what he works with. Quine then discuss
observation categoricals, which he says are test in pairs of observation. Next in the chapter is
holism, which is the theory that parts of a whole are in interconnection, such that they can t be
understood without reference to the whole, which is then regarded as greater than the sum of its

Women have long fought for the right to be viewed as equal within the work place. Over the past
decades the percentage of women in management has risen from a mere 13.8% in 1950 to 50.6%
in 2007 (Latu, 2000). However, gender stereotype bias and discrimination are still present in the
modern workforce. Gender stereotypes are beliefs of how men and women should be and act.
When evaluators don t have clear criteria, ambiguity causes gender stereotypes to fill the voids.
Leading to differences in the way men and women are evaluated. This happens, in most cases, on
an unconscious level, though it does still occur consciously. It has been shown by psychologists
that we routinely categorize individuals within milliseconds of meeting them, we classify them by
their gender. In doing this we assume they will possess certain gender role traits, either feminine or
masculine. Men are expected to have strong leadership traits, while women are known to have
nurturing, submissive qualities. The cause of gender discrimination is based on cultural beliefs and

In chapter twenty five, Holden, while walking along Fifth Avenue, begins to believe that he will
not be able to get to the other side of the street each time he reaches the end of a block, as if he will
just fall off. He talks aloud to Allie to help him get through the ordeal. Holden also continues to see
Allie as one of the few things he likes about life.
Yet another demon that Holden avoids is the process of having to grow up. Throughout the book,
he seems hesitant to develop any real ambitions or goals. He is a perpetual failure at school. He
refuses to associate himself with mature ways of living, and so isolates himself from anyone his

Composing an opera seems like a daunting task, now imagine trying to take an Epic Poem and
make it into an opera, it seems almost like an ultimate challenge; a challenge only few would
take on. One of the most famous composers who took on this challenge was Claudio Giovanni
Antonio Monteverdi famously known only as Monteverdi, was one of the greatest composers of
his time and he was able to bring classical Greek Epic Poems to life. Even though Monteverdi was
one of the greatest composers of his times it must have been very daunting challenge to take a story
that had been only really heard and written down almost from interpretation from the Greeks and
turn it into an Italian Opera. Another challenge he may have faced was condensing the long Epic
Poem so that the audience could sit through the opera and still get the most important points of the
Epic Poem. One of biggest problems Monteverdi must have encountered was when he first began
to compose the story of Ulysses there was the challenge that it was in a completely different
language. Homer wrote the Odysseyin Greek and Monteverdi was Italian, to add to this the Greek
Homer wrote the story in was completely different from the Greek that the native people spoke.
Even though the Odyssey was already being translated, no one really knew how to translate
Greek; it had been a langue that basically disappeared for some time. This could have mean that
some of the story could have literally been lost in translation, or the Italian scholars could have
added even some parts of the story accidently due to misinterpretation. Monteverdi being one the
greatest composers would have had to study the story of Ulysses and known the story
thoroughly no matter what translation he may have read or heard. Knowing the plot of the story
he would then have to match musical pieces to each of the characters, and there were many
characters in this Epic Poem, who were fundamental to this opera even more difficult to
compose. Not only did Monteverdi have to face a language barrier but also, he then had to keep

HealthSouth Corporation is based in Birmingham, Alabama, it is the largest provider of
rehabilitative health care services. It operates in 26 states in the United States of America and in
Puerto Rico. HealthSouth provides rehabilitation hospitals, long term heightened care hospitals,
outpatient rehabilitation satellite clinics and home health agencies.
HealthSouth was found by Richard Scrushy in the year 1984 and was called Amcare, Inc. It opened
its first facility in Arkansas and later on that year another one in Birmingham. In 1985 the company
changed its name into HealthSouth Rehabilitation Corporation, in 1990 the company expanded to

HealthSouth financial officer William Owens contributed with the securities and exchanges
commission and became an informer by recording his conversation with Scrushy to provide the
government evidence for their case. In one of the conversation Scrushy said to William Owens that
he could get killed if he fixed the financial statements immediately, but this problem could easily be
dealt with over time.
On March 19 of the year 2003, Securities and Exchange Commission brought the trading of
HealthSouth to an end on the New York stockexchange, charging the company for inflating its
earnings by more than 10 percent and overstated its profits by more than $2.5 billion between
1999 and 2002. HealthSouth s trading reached to $30.81 in the year 1998, but ever since the
trading of the company has been put to an end it reached to $3.91 per share. One week later, Owens
pleaded guilty to changing and editing the company s financial statements.
On March 31, the board of directors fired Scrushy and Owens and the auditors Ernest amp; young.
The company removed Scrushy s name from the conference center and hired a restricting firm to
help the company to avoid bankruptcy.
As HealthSouth started reviving from the scandal, Scrushy s problems were only starting. In
October of the year 2003 Scrushy faced more than 85 charges, including charges that he falsified
accounts at the HealthSouth s company which lead to $2.7 billion fraud of investors, by reporting
