George Seurat Essay
Impressionism takes the moment at hand and depicts it with light and color. George Seurat was
influenced by Impressionism using modern subjects and urban leisure scenes. He used color
characterizing of Impressionism but also made arrangements based on color theory. Seurat wanted to
capture all the colors that interacted to make their own appearance which differed in thought to
Impressionism of putting colors next to each other to create colors that blended optically. Seurat
helped move Impressionism into Post Impressionism by developing a systematic structured way of
painting.
Seurat was influenced by Cheverul who figured color impose its own complementary on its neighbor.

The way the sun pours down on the people, the rest of the canvas basks in the sun whereas the
shadows are a darker green hue on the lighter green grass. The way the sun is portrayed, it looks as if
it s mid afternoon. Seurat s pointillism shows the light coming from the left onto the people and
objects. The trees show the special blending effects of the colors. To the left of the painting, the use of
white creates a light and as the eye moves to the right, it blends into the color of the greens of the
trees. Here, Seurat is placing white and green next to each other. The brushwork of the painting is
dotlike with the dots varying in size and shape. These individuals dots blend together into one scene.
The painting s perspective is to the left with the people all looking that way toward the river. The
people in the front of the painting are closer to the eye. The woman in the front and that man walking
with her are the biggest figures in the picture. These sizes help balance the artwork. Lines were mostly
avoided with the use of shading for a softer effect.
Seurat s painting is one of the most reproduced paintings. Initially, pointillism was not received well
as this new painting style was like nothing else and the general public did not receive it well. A
Sunday on La Grande Jatte was the first painting to be painted entirely in pointillism which changed
the way art was viewed from Impressionism to Post

Thomas Jefferson Biography
Thomas Jefferson Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia. His mom
came out of royalty from a Scottish family and his Dad was a successful farmer. He was the third born
out of ten siblings. As a child Thomas Jefferson loved to play in the woods, Practice violin, and read.
At age nine he went to a local private school and was taught Greek and Latin language. At age 14 he
went back to school and study classical languages and he also studied Literature, and math. He went to
college of William and Mary. There were a lot of distractions at the college kids didn t study like
Jefferson suspected they played cars and bet money on horse races but that didn t let Jefferson get in
his way. He studied law and turned out successful after college, he was already one of the best lawyers
in Virginia. He married a lady named Martha Skelton. When her and Thomas first met she was one of
the wealthiest people in Virginia. They fell in love and got married on January 1st, 1772. They had six
children all together, but sadly two of them didn t make it to their adult years. Jefferson was amazing

Manual Sizing Of Analog Blocks
There is around 10 to 200 real valued parameters in an analog circuit, and value of these parameters
must be set in order to meet the specification .Circuit sizing is the process of setting these parameters.
for example a simple two stage operational amplifier has around 12 parameters ,which includes width,
length and passive component values of all transistors which have to be set to achieve specifications
such as CMRR(common mode rejection ratio), gain, power ,area ,bandwidth ,noise ,settling time
,offset value and slew rate . Figure 1 two stage operational amplifier
There are 6 mosfets in this figure, so we have two compute values of width and height of 6 mosfets
along with other parameters such as slew rate, bandwidth and noise margin.
A system on a chip (SOC) is an integrated circuit that integrates all components of a electronic system
into a single chip. SOC is made automated to a large extent. Manual sizing of analog blocks is a
bottleneck. There are several methods and techniques of sizing; circuit sizing is an optimization
problem. SPICE model is being considered the most accurate model as the final check point is spice
correctness since the designer does not have access to the fabrication process so designer relies on the
simulator. Apart from spice there are circuit equations. These equations can be derived taking some
assumption with regard to the transistor behavior. There are three

What A Railgun Is It Functions, And Why It Was Created
This research paper will show and illustrate the basics of what a railgun is, how it functions, and why
it was created. From there, it will further explicitly explain some of electromagnetics and physics that
dictate the machine and its operation. Finally, a few of the arduous problems as well as what impact
the railgun might have in our future is explained.
I. Introduction
By definition, a railgun is a weapon consisting of a pair of parallel conductive rails, using a magnetic
field and electric current to launch projectiles at very high velocity (1). In other words, a railgun is an
physical apparatus that uses the basic laws of electromagnetics by taking the flow of current through a
loop to generate a Lorentz force on a bullet like projectile, which then propels it at an extremely high
velocity. The method used to generate power in some DC motors uses this same electromagnetic
theory. The concept of railguns has grown tremendously in popularity in the past couple decades,
especially after the idea of this type of weapon was shown in various television shows and movies.
The fact that makes a railgun so unique, is that no combustion process has to take place in order for
the projectile to be fired. The inefficiency of railguns, however, has highly prohibited its further
research and development.
II. Body
Almost ninety five years ago, in 1918, the French inventor named Louis Octave Fauchon Villeplee
designed the first railgun prototype. By connecting two parallel

Social Costs Of Smoking Cigarettes
Introduction
The overall economic costs of smoking cigarettes has become somewhat of an epidemic in society for
a variety of reasons. It includes numerous private and social costs. The private cost to smokers goes
far beyond the price of cigarettes alone. Smokers also pay with their health, life, and finances.
Alongside the great cost to smokers, they enjoy benefits to the same degree. The total cost of smoking
not only effects smokers, but society as well. The externalities from smoking are both negative and
positive. Society bears the burden of the negative externalities, or social costs, both physically and
monetarily. The positive externalities, or social benefits, play a significant economic role in society.
The tobacco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The average smoker s overall quality of life is jeopardized because of the health ramifications. Many
long time smokers have lower endurance than non smokers which results in frequent shortness of
breath. They are also more prone to common illnesses due to their lowered immune system. Finally,
they are at a high risk for disease and premature death. Although these costs are high, smokers do reap
some benefit by making the choice to smoke.
If the private cost of smoking to smokers is so high then why smoke? According to economic theory,
if smokers are fully informed, rational and under no duress, it can be assumed that the benefits of
smoking to them are at least equal to the costs which they themselves bear. (Collins; Lapsley)
Otherwise, they would not smoke. The benefits to the smoker are both physical and psychological.
Cigarettes are highly addictive. Reinforcement and withdrawal are the two key factors that establish
cigarette smoking as an addictive behavior. As a learned response to consumption, reinforcement leads
smokers into becoming dependent on the rewards or benefits they reap from smoking. The nicotine in
cigarettes creates a physical dependence while the act of lighting up and smoking creates a
psychological dependence. A smoker benefits from the positive reinforcement that comes from both
the physical and psychological effects of smoking. Smokers are also influenced by

The Archetypal Hero In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Archetypal heroes play the leading role in many new and old pieces of literature. Main characters
usually exhibit characteristics that lead them to be identified as the archetypal hero. Some
characteristics of an archetypal hero are having godlike ability, being granted with magical help, and
takes upon a task that requires a long journey. Gilgamesh the main character in the Epic of Gilgamesh
displays the characteristics of an archetypal hero because he was born three parts god, had Enkidu to
help him along the way; along with the gods help, and goes on a quest to obtain immortality.
Gilgamesh is considered a hero because he has unique abilities that no human could possess. During
the time period that The Epic of Gilgamesh was written a hero contained godlike features. In the
prologue translated by N.K. Sandars it states, Nonetheless, accounts of this famous king Two thirds a

arrogance and guide him through life. In the story of Humbaba Enkidu says to Gilgamesh, O my lord,

Hispanics do come through the system but not as much as blacks juveniles, with a small number of
kids that are Caucasian and other races. Blacks and Hispanics usually can t afford a private attorney
like the Caucasian kids and other races, and usually have to end up with a public defender unless it is a
high profile case and a private attorney comes in.
According to Juvenile Courts, a juvenile is classified into three different groups. The first group is
considered a Delinquent. A Delinquent is a person who is under age (usually below 18), who is found
to have committed a crime in states that have declared by law that a minor lacks responsibility and
thus may not be sentenced as an adult (Legal Dictionary). Another term a juvenile can be referred to
be a status offender. A status offender is a juvenile charged with or adjudicated for conduct that would
not, under the law of the jurisdiction in which the offense was committed, be a crime if committed by
an adult (Act 4 Juvenile Justice). Finally a Juvenile can be identified as a dependent and neglected
child. These are usually youth that are deprived and in need of support and supervision (Cliff Notes)
Not every child that encounters a police is taken in custody. Police officers are more lenient on
juveniles because they do not want a stigma to be placed on them as they grow up. Some youth s are
not that lucky, in which they are taken into custody and are given one of

Data Compression Essay
Data Compression
I. Introduction
In the modern era known as the Information Age, forms of electronic information are steadily
becoming more important. Unfortunately, maintenance of data requires valuable resources in storage
and transmission, as even the presence of information in storage re quires some power. However,
some of the largest files are those that are in formats re plete with repetition, and thus are larger than
they need to be. The study of data compres sion is the science which attempts to advance toward
methods that can be applied to data in order to make it take up less space. The uses for this are vast,
and algorithms will need to be improved in order to sustain the inevitably larger files of the future.
Thus, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chronicle of modern data compression begins in the late 1940 s with a method de signed by
Claude Shannon and Robert Fano, logically named Shannon Fano coding. It takes the frequencies of
the symbols in a file to represent the more recurrent ones using shorter coding. This was improved
upon by one of Fano s students, David Huffman, into an optimal version, and has obsoleted Shannon
Fano coding (except for historical pur poses).
The next step up, arithmetic coding, is similar to, and even better than Huffman coding, but it requires
more resources to implement. Also, it is burdened with patentship, one of the most adverse (in terms
of adoption) properties of data compression algorithms. The same also applies to others such as LZW,
MP3 and more obscure ones. LZW, standing for Lempel Ziv Welch, was developed by Terry Welch,
and is still patented, and used in .gif and .pdf files.
Mp3, developed by the German Fraunhofer Society in the 1990 s, is used for com pressing sounds by
removing inaudible redundancy and frequencies. It is, however, a lossy compression algorithm, called
so because it loses some information that is not es
1
sential in order to save a lot of space. I decided to gear research mostly to lossless com pression
algorithms, and will mention little more about these.
The ZIP file format is also worthy of mention in any account of data compression. It was

Analysis Of Hockey Game By Andy Warhol
The image that I have chosen from Artstor, to demonstrate the understanding of the visual culture is a
painting titled, Hockey Game . This image was created by Andy Warhol who was an American
painter, printmaker and filmmaker from 1928 until 1987. There is no date on this piece. The actual
size of this image is 8 by 10 inches and the material used is Gelaton silver print. Among the images
found in Artstor, there is more than one image called the Hockey Game, created by the same author
which are shots in time of pieces of specific hockey games. The image I choose, was of two pairs of
players fighting with another player with a referee. Finding this image was achieved through the

With each view having different ideologies when viewing an image, the artist in this case has left the
power of his influence up to the value of the viewer. Ideologies are produced and affirmed through the
social institutions that characterize a given society, such as the family, education, medicine, the law,
the government, the entertainment industry, among others (p.23). As a hockey player and coach, I
would view this image of a hockey fight as a natural progression of the game. If a person, ignorant to
the game of hockey viewed this image, they may take offense or even be upset with the turn of events
of the game. It is interesting that the there are a series of pictures called the Hockey Game created by
Warhol, not all at the same game but showing different events of a game through this TV screen. I
think the power of the series would give a viewer a much more vivid image or representation of
hockey than the one specific image I choose a given instance in time.
The second visual concept that will aid in the explanation of my visual analysis is the concept of
realism and perception. Art and images are in one view, a practice dedicated to the visual and material
reproduction of things and events in the world. In this view, we might say that there are things in the
world and then there are their representation . (p.143). It is

I Don?t Want to Grow Up, I?m A Toys ?R? Us Kid.? This magical place for children was established
in 1948 by Charles Lazarus in Washington, D.C, with the name Children?s Bargain. His vision at the

Satisfying the customer was his number one obligation as he introduced infant products and toys for

Stacey Dale, an economist at Princeton University, states the difference between the students who
went to super selective colleges and those with similar SAT scores that were rejected from those
institutions and went to less selective colleges is indistinguishable from zero (Source A). The data
reported here represents the individual student as responsible for their career success rather than where
they attend college. Two of Harvard s most famous alumni, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates, dropped
out to move into their full time technology operations. While not every student will become as rich
and powerful as Gates and Zuckerberg, this shows the person, not the school, make the career. The
lack of need for top students to receive an Ivy League education highlights the fact that the institution
must reform itself in order to attract top students. This lack of a need also hurts the Ivy League brand .
The Ivy League presents itself as a set of institution that best prepares students for the high level jobs.
In part this remains true, as the average Ivy League graduate earns about forty thousand dollars more
per year than the average college graduate (Source H). That number gets overblown, however, as
community colleges and other trade schools with lesser paying jobs deflate the average earnings of the
entire group. In fact, the Ivy League is beginning to fall behind in the executive level jobs held by
alumni, with the number of executives at Fortune 100 companies with Ivy League undergraduate
dropping from 14% to 10% from 1980 to 2001 (Source I). The fall of the influence of Ivy League
coincides with the massive rise in tuition over those decades. As the cost of attendance increased,
talented students took their smarts elsewhere to receive their education. This hurts the Ivy League as

Keeping People Well with Effective Public Health Practice
The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice.
In this assignment I will consider the statement The well being of communities is dependent on
effective public health practice. I will do this by looking at wellbeing, defining public health practice
and by looking at evidence based practice, epidemiology, policies and goals generated and their
effective application. I will also suggest why public health practice is not always as effective in
practice as it is in policy.
Achievement of wellbeing is the nation s aim, so now how do we in practice with limited resources,
political divisions, diverse demographics and actual poverty rising year on year causing 350,000
families alone to access one group of food banks last year( Trussel Trust 2013) , even begin to address
this process. The momentum of disease, poverty, isolation moving towards wellbeing, achievement
and community is the aim of all public health, an aim to improve the quality of lives lived out in a
myriad of circumstances. With this momentum for quality and change wellbeing has been recognised
as a measure for quality of life individually and in community and the Prime Minister in 2010 asked
the Office of National Statistics (ONS) to measure the nations wellbeing (Cameron, 2010) The ONS
attempted to comprehensively assess wellbeing of adults, youth and children including finance, social
and human capital , asking questions where networks with others were also seen as a measure of

Video Games Outweigh The Positive Effects
The essay s audience will be parents that are trying to decide whether or not their children should be
allowed to play video games or parents that have already decided to not let their children play them.
These parents may be under the belief that video games have only negative effects on their child s
cognitive, physical, and social states, or that the negative effects of playing video games outweigh the
positive effects. This audience only needs a simple understanding of what video games are; they do
not have to be knowledgeable as to the different genres of games or their titles etc. The parents also
may be misinformed by the stereotypes that surround playing video games, such as that video games
turn their child s brain to mush, or that video games could make their child exhibit violent tendencies.
These parents are expected to have children in or around the fourth grade level, which would put them
at around nine to ten years of age. This age group was chosen because at this age the child is
undergoing a lot of psychological growth, and this development greatly affects what kind of person

A Decade Of Fear Summary
Sam Robert in the article A decade of fear argues that Mccarthyism turned Americans against each
other. Robert supports his claim by illustrating fear, describing betrayal, and comparing it to other US
internal conflicts. The author s purpose is to point out a vulnerable point in American history in order
to demonstrate how Americans fell prey to Mccarthy s propaganda. The author writes in a direct and
cynical tone for an educated audience. I Strongly agree with Rogers. Mccarthyism caused Americans
to turn on each other because it sparked and strengthened the fear of there being communist spies in
the government. As well as inciting Americans to hunt and expose communists or anyone they thought
to be communist and plunging Americans into a mass hysteria.
Clearly Mccarthyism planted the fear of there being communist spies in the government. For example
Mccarthy stated I have here in hand a list of of 205, a list of names that were made known to the
Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working
and shaping policy in the state department. This alone had people beginning to become anxious.
Additionally, as Roberts states in 1953 Mccarthy became chairman of the Senate Permanent
Subcommittee on investigations and used the platform to make ... Show more content on

Much like in the Crucible when the people of salem obtained a sort of bloodlust after the witch hunts
began, Americans began hunting out alleged communists when Mccarthy began to accuse people.
Furthermore some Americans saw that the American way , democracy, was the only way to go and
when communists came into the picture they weren t ready to give up their ideals. Additionally,
political figures used the fear and dislike of communist to give themselves a push. Joseph Mccarthy
himself used the hate to rise to fame and climb the ranks in politics continuing to accuse people of

Phineas P. Gage Essay
Phineas P. Gage was born in 1823. He was a railroad construction worker outside a small town of
Cavendish, Vermont. On September 13, 1848, Phineas suffered from a traumatic brain injury, which
caused severe damage to parts of his frontal brain due to his accident at work. The day of Phineas
accident, he was performing his work duties on the construction of a railroad track. His duty was to set
explosive charges in holes drilled into large pieces of rock so that they could be broken up and
removed. He had to fill the holes with gunpowder, with a fuse, and then pack in sand with a large

Antonio Damasio has written significantly on Gage and other patients that he studied on with similar

stated that Gage s story was the historical beginnings of the study of the biological basis of behavior .
Gage s case inspired the development of frontal lobotomy, which now is a psychosurgical procedure
that leads to emotional response and personality traits. On the other hand, historical analysis doesn t
support this claim because Gage s injury didn t have enough influence on the development of this
practice. Gage not only suffered the accident but it had a dramatic impact on his life. There was
criticism of Gage s story including the doubts on accuracy between scientific and popular discourse
from Australian psychologist Malcolm Macmillan. According to Macmillan there was little
information about Gage s personality and habits before the accident. The post traumatic psychological
changes reported while Gage was still alive were less dramatic than later reports had stated. A first

Cologne Guitar Town
Sponsored by The Gibson Foundation, Guitar Town is a famous event where a town is filled with huge
guitar sculptures replicas of Gibson most famous models. The event also includes special concerts,
workshops, lectures and get together with guitar legends. So far, this event only once came to Europe,
was in London 2007.
After the exhibition of the guitars, they enter in an auction and the money generated is given to social
causes.
Gibson wishes to do such a program in Cologne. The need to enter and gain customer proximity in the
European market makes this an excellent choice and so, Gibson is seeking a partnership with Music
Store in order to bring the event to Cologne. Also, is important to state that joining both brands in such
invent is a way to Gibson generates a strategic position near a major retailer in Europe.
Special Productions
As previous stated, although Music Store has in its catalogue several products from Gibson, truth is,
Gibson isn t in the best sellers list. The main reason identified for that is probably the premium
position that Gibson has. Their Guitars are priced above the regular and most sold guitars in the store.
In order to invert this tendency, it may be possible to create a special line just for Europe and have the
launching fully dedicated to Music Store for a pre determined set of time. This way it could be price
controlled, targeting an European Market that is investing less in premium

The controls aren t as simple as you would think: for example, you have to time breaking through the
gates. It isn t a button masher at all, but the controls are a bit complicated, and the same can be said
with the mechanics. You need to control your horse s speed by tapping on the up arrow on the screen
and make sure it stays in the good area of the speed bar. You may also change your horse s direction in
the track, but be sure to stay near the rails!
Despite being a freemium game and having numerous microtransactions, the game doesn t shove it

Invertebrate Receptors
N acetylcholine Receptors Neuromuscular effects of ACh are typically mediated by post synaptic
nicotine acetylcholine receptors. These are so named because of their high affinity for nicotine.
Structurally, nAChRs are members of the Cys loop ligand gated ion channel (LGIC) superfamily.
They form homo and Hetero pentameric structures, which are organized in a barrel shape around a
central ion selective pore[39]. An important distinction between the vertebrate and the invertebrate
channel is that Vertebrate nAChRs are invariably cation selective (Na+, Ca2+, K+) and mediate
excitatory responses while Invertebrates, on the other hand, have both cation and anion selective (Cl2)
ACh gated channels[40]. The invertebrate anion selective channel mediate Cl2 driven membrane
hyperpolarization and therefore are believed to play a role in inhibitory responses to ACh. One
example of these unique invertebrate receptors is the acetylcholine gated chloride channel (ACC) of
the snail, Lymnaea, which is structurally related to nAChRs, yet is selective for chloride ions [41]. In
addition, nematodes have an unusual type of ACC, which is a functional acetylcholine gated chloride
channel but is more closely related to other chloride channels (GABA and ... Show more content on

In fact death of Doodle is the result we get and it is the narrator s fault because he overworked him, he

How Generational Trauma In The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist...
The way we live defines us, tradition defines us. Tradition is a very important thing. It is something
that spans many generations and is a part of one s identity. Tradition can define us. Therefore when
tradition is forcibly taken away it can hurt a lot of people and generations. An example of a people
who have had many of their traditions suppressed and taken away are the original inhabitants of the
Americas. Their tradition was taken from them and they were either killed or forced into following a
new tradition which erasing all of their identity. The effect this has on the newer generation is bad
because they will feel like a part of them is missing because their tradition was taken and it can cause
a trauma called generational trauma. The book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in heaven,
focuses on a Native American named Victor in order to describe how generational trauma causes a
weakening of tradition because it becomes replaced with alcohol and isolation. In addition, Alexie
presents how a rekindling of old traditions is a way out of this harmful circle.
When Victor was a child his parents would drink a lot and would neglect him because they dealt with
their pain by drinking. They drank because they were drinking away the problems caused by the
generational trauma they and the generation before them had to endure. For example, during the New
Year s party, everyone got drunk, even Victor s parents, left Victor by himself. Victor s father and
mother drank more

Disney, Racism, And The Renaissance Era

Disney is a multi billion dollar industry. Originally founded by the Disney brothers, Walt and Roy E.,
the company has now become a world wide phenomenon, diversifying its company into live action
film production, television, and theme parks. It surrounds us every day, in almost every way possible.
More importantly however, the Disney industry is known to people world wide as being one of the top
leaders in children s popular films and subsequently, storybooks. The countless movies and short films
made over the years have not only provided joy and happiness to families and young children, but
have ultimately influenced the way that these young children see the world as they grow older. Many
of the traditional fairytales known throughout the ages have been Disneyfied and have become more
modern through their adaptations, in order to increase revenue and audience appraisal. In addition, a
vast majority of the films released are based on different cultures, countries, or a certain historical
group or figure to create a more wholesome atmosphere where children can learn and become
cultured. However, the responses to these films that are often overlooked are the ones that bring a
negative light to the Disney Company and their reputation as a whole. Disney was and is known for

Romeo Juliet ¨ Balcony Scene Character Comparison
Balcony Scene (Act 2, Scene 1) in Romeo and Juliet is almost certainly the most famous scene
throughout the world. The prevalent reason for it being famous is that this scene is the scene where the
two lovers come together, took an oath for their love and plan to marry. This scene foreshadows the
next scene, their marriage, which is tremendously important for the rest of the play. In my opinion,
there is one more reason for gBalcony Sceneh to be famous. In this scene, Shakespeare reveals the
characteristics of the protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, in their speeches secretly. If we analyze them,

A Comparison Of IQ Tests And The Stanford Binet Test
By definition, intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. It is determined by
the ways we are able to solve problems, our mathematical skills, interpersonal and intrapersonal
knowledge, and naturalist intelligence. We are able to test our personal intelligent through many
different quizzes called IQ tests. One of the most popular ones being the Stanford Binet tests, which is
used as a good resource to test the intelligence of students. However, it is questionable whether or not
IQ tests are very accurate. The two IQ tests that I took for this paper was a Stanford Binet Test, and a
test from a website called Memorado. Each test took me approximately 10 15 minutes to complete in
its entirety. Comparing the two tests, I saw a lot more similarities than I did differences. The Binet test
was a set of 30 questions which assessed verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, as well as abstract
reasoning. The areas were depicted in questions such as mathematical problems, word problems, and
even problems that had a set of letters that I was instructed to make out an English word from them.
The Memorado test was very similar, however it tested more questions about relationships between
objects, and mathematical problems regarding what number came after the last in a tricky sequence.
Regardless of the few differences in question structure, both tests seemed to be looking at the areas of
mathematics, problem solving skills, and our ability to see

Perk Of Being A Wallflower, And The Perks Of Being A...
To the average American teenager, high school may have seemed like a real life nightmare. So why is
it that so many movies today revolve around this hellish concept? According to David Denby, the
author of High School Confidential: Notes on Teen Movies , there is a whole genre of these teen films.
As explained by Denby, such genre films include stereotypical male and female villains of the social
queen or jock type, mixed up emotions and teens rising above the poisonous system of status,
snobbery and exclusion that is commonly known as high school (Denby 367). By this definition, the
film The Perks of Being a Wallflower can be categorized as a teen film. Based on the book published
in 1999, The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows Charlie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, for the majority or teens, there is a considerable amount of teen angst that comes from this
emotional growth. When depicted in movies, Denby explains that these films arise from remembered
hurts which then get recast in symbolic form. (Denby 369). In Denby s example, the main character
may have suffered from the death of a parent and thus is ill equipped for the emotional pressures of
school. (Denby 369). This can be seen to be incredibly true for the main character of The Perks of
Being a Wallflower. Through out the film, there are memories brought up from Charlie s past about his
best friend s suicide, his Aunt s Death, and his past sexual abuse. For example, when Sam kisses
Charlie and rubs his leg, Charlie gets flashbacks of a similar situation in which his adult Aunt sexually
abuses him. Due to his past, Charlie is depicted as unable to cope with the problems he faces, through
his actions over the course of the film. Charlie takes a passive role in his life. For example, when his
sister is abused by her boyfriend, Charlie does not step in. He also doesn t speak up when Mary
Elizabeth declares that she and Charlie are dating, though he clearly doesn t have any interest in her.
From the audience s point of view, it is known that his passive actions are a result of his emotional
problems. However, as explained by Denby, the motherless child also has powers and will someday be

biophysical knowledge with knowledge of human behavior to generate or promote health and to
provide ministrations to those who are ill. He also concluded in his review of Jean Watson s work that
the science of caring is complementary to the science of curing . MSU s department of nursing
associates with Jean Watson s human caring theory as pointed out in the holistic health aspect of its
theoretical constructs. This section strongly reflect the ideas of Jean Watson. Pros of the theory * It
presents distinct difference between nursing and other health care professions * It is logical and easy
to apply to various practice situations * It presents nurses with a good view at nursing Cons of the
theory * Caring alone isn t enough as the health care system now incorporates technology in client s
care. Therefore, with the caring model and its processes, nurses need to find a blend where technology
has its place. Madeleine Leininger s Culture Care

The Popularity Of Professional American Football
While the Popularity of professional American football has grown to unbelievable numbers across of
America, the effects on the brain health of the game s players have led to people asking if it is worth
it. For a long time, the game of American professional football has been a love for many Americans
and even a lot of people that do not live in America. For a lot of people, the game has been all over the
TVs in their homes for a long time and has been a source of joy and a reason to get together and
socialize and celebrate. Many of the teams today have built large stadiums that are partly paid for by
these same fans. For example, when the Pittsburgh Steelers were building their new stadium, they
looked to the fans for help pay for it. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sale of professional football jerseys, t shirts, hats and other clothes are making teams very rich.
On any given Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday night, it is not hard to find
groups of people that have gathered to enjoy the game of professional American football. All of this is
taking place in a time where concussion or head injuries have begun to gain attention at every level of
the game. As more and more games are being played, we are beginning to see more and more
concussion injuries on the playing field. While we think that this would scare people, the popularity of
the game continues to be at great levels.
The Birth of the Game of American Football
The National Football League (NFL) is the professional football league that most people recognize as
the giant of American football. However, the game did not begin with a professional level. The first
ever game of football that was played happened on the college level on November 6, 1869. It took
place in New Brunswick, New Jersey and was a game that put Rutgers University against Princeton
University. The two schools are located only 20 miles from each other.
At that time, players were not allowed to pass the football in the air or run with it down the field. The
only way to move the ball down the field was by batting the ball or dribbling it kind of like you were
playing soccer. There were no

Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector
December 22, 2008
Final Project: Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector There are rules, regulations and ordinances
that all guide the recruiting process in the public sector; however, in my opinion these challenges just
interfere with a governmental agencies ability to hire the best and most qualified new employees. As
an example, a couple of the solutions that I think will help the public sector s recruiting process are 1)
making the application process more simplistic, 2) targeting younger workers by working with
universities and colleges and 3) developing a workforce strategy. The public sector has a lot ... Show

When it comes to recruiting in the private sector, there are a few guidelines that you might reference
here and there, but by and large recruiting is done without interference. The process seems fairly
simple; you develop a job description, establish a salary structure and place an advertisement. There
are no testing requirements or mandates that you need to satisfy to be able to hire a new employee.
Along with this the time it takes to recruit someone in the private sector takes only as long as it takes
to get a qualified applicant to apply for a position and interview for the job. Interviewing is straight
forward and although an applicant might go through two or three interviews, before being offered the
position, there is no one outside the organization telling the organization how to recruit and how to
hire a qualified applicant. Recruiting in the public sector is so much more complex than it is in the
private sector. In the public sector many positions have testing requirements built into them. This
means that you must test the candidates that meet the minimum qualifications, which at times means
you test over 100 people with some positions, and with some positions within the Fire and Police
Departments; this means that there could be well over 1,000 applicants to test. The testing process
various by positions, for

Warren Harding Errors Chapter 3 Summary
In Chapter Three, The Warren Harding Error, Gladwell focuses on what he calls the dark side of thin
slicing the way that our unconscious minds tend toward Gladwell by arguing why our minds
subconscious automatically assumes things based of stereotypes using the art of persuasion.
Throughout this book you constantly hear of the idea of how we make snap judgements of everything
and everyone and how we can be more aware of it in our lives. It also explains the good and bad side
of thin slicing. (AKA snap judgements) In the book it says, ...to convince you that our snap
judgements and first impression can be educated and controlled. (Gladwell Pg. 15) In chapter three of
the book, Blink, it reflects on how snap judgements tie in with stereotypes. It says in the book, We
make connection much more quickly between pairs of ideas that are already related in our minds...
(Gladwell Pg. 77) The chapter starts off with exemplification when Gladwell gives the Warren
Harding example which also explains the bad side to thin slicing. He then goes into classification and
definition with the example of the IAT tests. The IAT tests are the perfect example as to how thin
slicing is not always a good thing. This test measured that second level of attitude in an unconscious
level, so it is our immediate associations that tumble out before you have time to think about them.
The test also shows the unconscious attitudes that you might have even if they are completely opposite
of what your

He used color characterizing of Impressionism but also made arrangements based on color theory. Seurat wanted to capture all the colors that interacted to make their own appearance which differed in thought to Impressionism of putting colors next to each other to create colors that blended optically. Seurat helped move Impressionism into Post Impressionism by developing a systematic structured way of painting. The trees show the special blending effects of the colors. To the left of the painting, the use of white creates a light and as the eye moves to the right, it blends into the color of the greens of the trees. Here, Seurat is placing white and green next to each other. The brushwork of the painting is dotlike with the dots varying in size and shape. These individuals dots blend together into one scene. The painting s perspective is to the left with the people all looking that way toward the river. The people in the front of the painting are closer to the eye. The woman in the front and that man walking with her are the biggest figures in the picture. These sizes help balance the artwork. Lines were mostly avoided with the use of shading for a softer effect. Seurat s painting is one of the most reproduced paintings. Initially, pointillism was not received well as this new painting style was like nothing else and the general public did not receive it well. Manual Sizing Of Analog Blocks There is around 10 to 200 real valued parameters in an analog circuit, and value of these parameters must be set in order to meet the specification .Circuit sizing is the process of setting these parameters. for example a simple two stage operational amplifier has around 12 parameters ,which includes width, length and passive component values of all transistors which have to be set to achieve specifications such as CMRR(common mode rejection ratio), gain, power ,area ,bandwidth ,noise ,settling time ,offset value and slew rate . Figure 1 two stage operational amplifier There are 6 mosfets in this figure, so we have two compute values of width and height of 6 mosfets along with other parameters such as slew rate, bandwidth and noise margin. A system on a chip (SOC) is an integrated circuit that integrates all components of a electronic system into a single chip. SOC is made automated to a large extent. Manual sizing of analog blocks is a bottleneck. There are several methods and techniques of sizing; circuit sizing is an optimization problem. SPICE model is being considered the most accurate model as the final check point is spice correctness since the designer does not have access to the fabrication process so designer relies on the simulator. Apart from spice there are circuit equations. These equations can be derived taking some assumption with regard to the transistor behavior. There are three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What A Railgun Is It Functions, And Why It Was Created This research paper will show and illustrate the basics of what a railgun is, how it functions, and why it was created. From there, it will further explicitly explain some of electromagnetics and physics that dictate the machine and its operation. Finally, a few of the arduous problems as well as what impact the railgun might have in our future is explained. I. Introduction By definition, a railgun is a weapon consisting of a pair of parallel conductive rails, using a magnetic field and electric current to launch projectiles at very high velocity (1). In other words, a railgun is an physical apparatus that uses the basic laws of electromagnetics by taking the flow of current through a loop to generate a Lorentz force on a bullet like projectile, which then propels it at an extremely high velocity. The method used to generate power in some DC motors uses this same electromagnetic theory. The concept of railguns has grown tremendously in popularity in the past couple decades, especially after the idea of this type of weapon was shown in various television shows and movies. The fact that makes a railgun so unique, is that no combustion process has to take place in order for the projectile to be fired. The inefficiency of railguns, however, has highly prohibited its further research and development. II. Body Almost ninety five years ago, in 1918, the French inventor named Louis Octave Fauchon Villeplee designed the first railgun prototype. By connecting two parallel ... It includes numerous private and social costs. The private cost to smokers goes far beyond the price of cigarettes alone. Smokers also pay with their health, life, and finances. Alongside the great cost to smokers, they enjoy benefits to the same degree. The total cost of smoking not only effects smokers, but society as well. The externalities from smoking are both negative and positive. Society bears the burden of the negative externalities, or social costs, both physically and monetarily. The positive externalities, or social benefits, play a significant economic role in society. The tobacco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The average smoker s overall quality of life is jeopardized because of the health ramifications. Many long time smokers have lower endurance than non smokers which results in frequent shortness of breath. They are also more prone to common illnesses due to their lowered immune system. Finally, they are at a high risk for disease and premature death. Although these costs are high, smokers do reap some benefit by making the choice to smoke. If the private cost of smoking to smokers is so high then why smoke? According to economic theory, if smokers are fully informed, rational and under no duress, it can be assumed that the benefits of smoking to them are at least equal to the costs which they themselves bear. (Collins; Lapsley) Otherwise, they would not smoke. The benefits to the smoker are both physical and psychological. Cigarettes are highly addictive. Reinforcement and withdrawal are the two key factors that establish cigarette smoking as an addictive behavior. As a learned response to consumption, reinforcement leads smokers into becoming dependent on the rewards or benefits they reap from smoking. The nicotine in cigarettes creates a physical dependence while the act of lighting up and smoking creates a psychological dependence. Unfortunately, maintenance of data requires valuable resources in storage and transmission, as even the presence of information in storage re quires some power. However, some of the largest files are those that are in formats re plete with repetition, and thus are larger than they need to be. The study of data compres sion is the science which attempts to advance toward methods that can be applied to data in order to make it take up less space. The uses for this are vast, and algorithms will need to be improved in order to sustain the inevitably larger files of the future. Thus, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chronicle of modern data compression begins in the late 1940 s with a method de signed by Claude Shannon and Robert Fano, logically named Shannon Fano coding. It takes the frequencies of the symbols in a file to represent the more recurrent ones using shorter coding. This was improved upon by one of Fano s students, David Huffman, into an optimal version, and has obsoleted Shannon Fano coding (except for historical pur poses). The next step up, arithmetic coding, is similar to, and even better than Huffman coding, but it requires more resources to implement. Also, it is burdened with patentship, one of the most adverse (in terms of adoption) properties of data compression algorithms. The same also applies to others such as LZW, MP3 and more obscure ones. LZW, standing for Lempel Ziv Welch, was developed by Terry Welch, and is still patented, and used in .gif and .pdf files. Mp3, developed by the German Fraunhofer Society in the 1990 s, is used for com pressing sounds by removing inaudible redundancy and frequencies. It is, however, a lossy compression algorithm, called so because it loses some information that is not es 1 sential in order to save a lot of space. I decided to gear research mostly to lossless com pression algorithms, and will mention little more about these. The ZIP file format is also worthy of mention in any account of data compression. As a hockey player and coach, I would view this image of a hockey fight as a natural progression of the game. These parents may be under the belief that video games have only negative effects on their child s cognitive, physical, and social states, or that the negative effects of playing video games outweigh the positive effects. This audience only needs a simple understanding of what video games are; they do not have to be knowledgeable as to the different genres of games or their titles etc. The parents also may be misinformed by the stereotypes that surround playing video games, such as that video games turn their child s brain to mush, or that video games could make their child exhibit violent tendencies. These parents are expected to have children in or around the fourth grade level, which would put them at around nine to ten years of age. This age group was chosen because at this age the child is undergoing a lot of psychological growth, and this development greatly affects what kind of person the child will be in the future. • 29. Invertebrate Receptors N acetylcholine Receptors Neuromuscular effects of ACh are typically mediated by post synaptic nicotine acetylcholine receptors. These are so named because of their high affinity for nicotine. Structurally, nAChRs are members of the Cys loop ligand gated ion channel (LGIC) superfamily. They form homo and Hetero pentameric structures, which are organized in a barrel shape around a central ion selective pore[39]. An important distinction between the vertebrate and the invertebrate channel is that Vertebrate nAChRs are invariably cation selective (Na+, Ca2+, K+) and mediate excitatory responses while Invertebrates, on the other hand, have both cation and anion selective (Cl2) ACh gated channels[40]. The invertebrate anion selective channel mediate Cl2 driven membrane hyperpolarization and therefore are believed to play a role in inhibitory responses to ACh. One example of these unique invertebrate receptors is the acetylcholine gated chloride channel (ACC) of the snail, Lymnaea, which is structurally related to nAChRs, yet is selective for chloride ions [41]. In addition, nematodes have an unusual type of ACC, which is a functional acetylcholine gated chloride channel but is more closely related to other chloride channels (GABA and ... In fact death of Doodle is the result we get and it is the narrator s fault because he overworked him, he left him in the storm, and the fact that he never even loved Doodle in the first place. One of the reasons the narrator was responsible for killing Doodle was because he overworked him. • 32. How Generational Trauma In The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist... The way we live defines us, tradition defines us. Tradition is a very important thing. It is something that spans many generations and is a part of one s identity. Tradition can define us. Therefore when tradition is forcibly taken away it can hurt a lot of people and generations. An example of a people who have had many of their traditions suppressed and taken away are the original inhabitants of the Americas. Their tradition was taken from them and they were either killed or forced into following a new tradition which erasing all of their identity. The effect this has on the newer generation is bad because they will feel like a part of them is missing because their tradition was taken and it can cause a trauma called generational trauma. The book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in heaven, focuses on a Native American named Victor in order to describe how generational trauma causes a weakening of tradition because it becomes replaced with alcohol and isolation. In addition, Alexie presents how a rekindling of old traditions is a way out of this harmful circle. When Victor was a child his parents would drink a lot and would neglect him because they dealt with their pain by drinking. They drank because they were drinking away the problems caused by the generational trauma they and the generation before them had to endure. For example, during the New Year s party, everyone got drunk, even Victor s parents, left Victor by himself. Victor s father and mother drank more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Originally founded by the Disney brothers, Walt and Roy E., the company has now become a world wide phenomenon, diversifying its company into live action film production, television, and theme parks. It surrounds us every day, in almost every way possible. More importantly however, the Disney industry is known to people world wide as being one of the top leaders in children s popular films and subsequently, storybooks. The countless movies and short films made over the years have not only provided joy and happiness to families and young children, but have ultimately influenced the way that these young children see the world as they grow older. Many of the traditional fairytales known throughout the ages have been Disneyfied and have become more modern through their adaptations, in order to increase revenue and audience appraisal. In addition, a vast majority of the films released are based on different cultures, countries, or a certain historical group or figure to create a more wholesome atmosphere where children can learn and become cultured. The prevalent reason for it being famous is that this scene is the scene where the two lovers come together, took an oath for their love and plan to marry. This scene foreshadows the next scene, their marriage, which is tremendously important for the rest of the play. In my opinion, there is one more reason for gBalcony Sceneh to be famous. It is determined by the ways we are able to solve problems, our mathematical skills, interpersonal and intrapersonal knowledge, and naturalist intelligence. We are able to test our personal intelligent through many different quizzes called IQ tests. One of the most popular ones being the Stanford Binet tests, which is used as a good resource to test the intelligence of students. However, it is questionable whether or not IQ tests are very accurate. The two IQ tests that I took for this paper was a Stanford Binet Test, and a test from a website called Memorado. Each test took me approximately 10 15 minutes to complete in its entirety. Comparing the two tests, I saw a lot more similarities than I did differences. The Binet test was a set of 30 questions which assessed verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, as well as abstract reasoning. The areas were depicted in questions such as mathematical problems, word problems, and even problems that had a set of letters that I was instructed to make out an English word from them. The Memorado test was very similar, however it tested more questions about relationships between objects, and mathematical problems regarding what number came after the last in a tricky sequence. Regardless of the few differences in question structure, both tests seemed to be looking at the areas of mathematics, problem solving skills, and our ability to see ... So why is it that so many movies today revolve around this hellish concept? According to David Denby, the author of High School Confidential: Notes on Teen Movies , there is a whole genre of these teen films. As explained by Denby, such genre films include stereotypical male and female villains of the social queen or jock type, mixed up emotions and teens rising above the poisonous system of status, snobbery and exclusion that is commonly known as high school (Denby 367). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, for the majority or teens, there is a considerable amount of teen angst that comes from this emotional growth. When depicted in movies, Denby explains that these films arise from remembered hurts which then get recast in symbolic form. (Denby 369). In Denby s example, the main character may have suffered from the death of a parent and thus is ill equipped for the emotional pressures of school. (Denby 369). This can be seen to be incredibly true for the main character of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Through out the film, there are memories brought up from Charlie s past about his best friend s suicide, his Aunt s Death, and his past sexual abuse. For example, when Sam kisses Charlie and rubs his leg, Charlie gets flashbacks of a similar situation in which his adult Aunt sexually abuses him. Due to his past, Charlie is depicted as unable to cope with the problems he faces, through his actions over the course of the film. Charlie takes a passive role in his life. For example, when his sister is abused by her boyfriend, Charlie does not step in. He also doesn t speak up when Mary Elizabeth declares that she and Charlie are dating, though he clearly doesn t have any interest in her. From the audience s point of view, it is known that his passive actions are a result of his emotional problems. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2011), Jean Watson s theoretical framework lies in carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship, and caring moment. This implies basically that the core of nursing is in caring and other qualities of nursing as a profession builds on it. Her assumptions of caring affirms that in all we do to assist a client, caring is the most important. She claimed that without caring, curing cannot effectively occur. Gonzalo (2011), refers to caring as being more healthogenic than curing because it integrates biophysical knowledge with knowledge of human behavior to generate or promote health and to provide ministrations to those who are ill. He also concluded in his review of Jean Watson s work that the science of caring is complementary to the science of curing . MSU s department of nursing associates with Jean Watson s human caring theory as pointed out in the holistic health aspect of its theoretical constructs. This section strongly reflect the ideas of Jean Watson. The process seems fairly simple; you develop a job description, establish a salary structure and place an advertisement. There are no testing requirements or mandates that you need to satisfy to be able to hire a new employee. Along with this the time it takes to recruit someone in the private sector takes only as long as it takes to get a qualified applicant to apply for a position and interview for the job. Interviewing is straight forward and although an applicant might go through two or three interviews, before being offered the position, there is no one outside the organization telling the organization how to recruit and how to hire a qualified applicant. Recruiting in the public sector is so much more complex than it is in the private sector. In the public sector many positions have testing requirements built into them.
