What Is Poverty Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of poverty can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires a nuanced
understanding of the subject and the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling
manner. Poverty is a multifaceted issue that encompasses economic, social, and political
dimensions, making it essential for the writer to delve deep into various aspects of the topic.
One of the difficulties lies in striking the right balance between providing factual information
and incorporating a humanistic perspective. The essay should not only present statistical data and
theoretical frameworks but also capture the human experience of poverty. This necessitates
careful research to gather relevant data, case studies, and real-life examples that can resonate
with the reader on an emotional level.
Crafting a coherent and logical argument is another challenge. Poverty is interconnected with
numerous factors, such as education, healthcare, employment, and societal structures. The writer
must skillfully weave these elements together to build a comprehensive narrative that elucidates
the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to poverty.
Moreover, addressing the complexity of poverty requires sensitivity and empathy. It's crucial to
avoid oversimplification and generalization while acknowledging the diversity of experiences
within the broad spectrum of poverty. Balancing objectivity with compassion is a delicate task,
as the essay should neither romanticize nor stigmatize individuals living in poverty.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of poverty demands a blend of research, empathy,
and analytical thinking. It involves navigating through a myriad of interconnected issues and
presenting a well-constructed argument that engages the reader. For those seeking assistance

Cosmos, Balance And Order In Ancient China
The ancient chinese believed that the cosmos had a greater logic as well as order.
This concept of the cosmos lies at the heart of chinese culture which shows why the
concept dealing with the cosmos is important. Foundations to the chinese beliefs
within the concept of the cosmos, balance, and order are important to the chapter due
to the chinese culture being highly influenced by their beliefs about the world. The
idea of order comes from balance within the chinese culture. When things seem to be
out of balance diviners might use their ability to reliably predict the future and in turn
say that the universewill right itself. Another important concept is the yin yang
symbol. This helps apply to the world view of the chinese due to their influence...

One example of the art that was influenced is the bronze casting. The idea of yin and
yang is present in this because a negative space shape is filled with the positive shape
of the molten metal. The yin and yang symbols represent both a light and dark aka
positive and negative shapes that fit together. One without the other would be
incomplete and this is clearly seen in the bronze casting technique of the chinese. An
example of the art that is produced from this technique is called the guang or ritual
wine vessel. Another important concept within the chapter is the influence of daoism
and Chu spirituality on Chinese culture. The idea of spirituality, that is free, exotic,
and full of worshipping ghosts and spirits through shamans and priests was exhibited
in the Chu spirituality. Although the concept of daoism and confucian logic were
starkly different from the Chu beliefs they still all had an impact on the development
of the culture. The daoist belief of restraint, simplicity in life, and achieving
enlightenment through such simplicity and self control also contributed to the Chinese
Comparing Finding Forrester And Breathing Underwater
By...
Breathing Underwater is a novel written by Alex Flinn about a 16 year old boy
named Nick who has been accused of beating his ex girlfriend Caitlin. The book
tackles very serious subjects such as abuse and anger. The movie, Finding Forrester,
is about a young man named Jamal Wallace who undergoes a big life change when
he meets a famous author. In many ways, the novel and the movie seem to mirror and
reflect the familiar elements. However, many differences come up when reviewing
the plot line and different aspects of the two stories. Breathing Underwater and
Finding Forrester are similar and different in their main characters personalities,
families, and writing.

While one may draw parallels to the missing parent figures in our main character s
lives, the role s those parents left seemed to differ in the novel and the film. Nick s
mother s absence seems to be why Nick is so cold hearted. The abuse by Nick s
father can be related to his mother not being present and also his ability to justify
his own personal agenda. Nick seems to victimize himself for everything that
happened to him throughout the book. However, Jamal seems to be better suited
for overcoming obstacles and not whining about them. Jamal s lack of a father
figure seemed to have made him a better person and helped him grow into the
person he is today. He doesn t victimize himself because he, himself, realizes that
his own life is a choice. He takes responsibility for what he does and he grows from
it. Jamal s lack of a father helped him learn, ultimately, that he is the master of his
own fate. Whereas, it took Nick the whole novel to realize this and take responsibility.
Lastly, Breathing Underwater and Finding Forrester are similar in their writing.
Nick and Jamal are both given a gift to write. Writing is a heavily influential theme
made in both the novel and the film. Nick and Jamal use writing as an outlet to
channel their frustration and struggles in their lives. It allows them to grow and
express a sense of individuality, as well as giving them opportunities. In the end of
bothe the novel and the book, both characters used their writing to benefit and help
them advance their lives. Nick gets Tom back and Jamal get a large portion of money
to help him in his future

12 Hour Shift In Nursing
Nursing is a profession that is known for requiring staff to work nights, weekends,
and holidays. This is a duty that most nurses are aware of prior to going into the
field, however, they may not be fully aware of the impact these varied shifts have on
personal health and performance. These types of fluctuating work hours are often
referred to as shift work, which is defined by Berger and Hobbs (2006) as shifts
taking place aside from the traditional daytime hours (p. 465). Typical hospital shifts
outside of the day shift are usually classified as evening shift or night shift. Some
nurses may work permanent days or nights; however, it is more common for nurses to
find themselves rotating between the two shifts. Studies have shown that shift... Show

Each of my shifts for preceptorship were night shifts. This was an adjustment for me
as I had never worked consecutive overnight shifts prior to this semester of nursing
school. I adapted fairly well to this change after the second night of the experience.
However, I found that my body adjusted too well to night shift and on the nights
that I didn t have a shift I wasn t able to fall asleep until early morning hours. I also
had a hard time resisting the urge to nap during the days that I had off. As a result,
I felt that I spent less time on school work and had much less time for family and

Arielle Gibson Interview Essay
Can you get to know a classmate with only four general questions? Yes, because that
is all it took to get to know Arielle Gibson. On Thursday, November tenth, I
conducted an interview with Arielle Gibson to get to know who she is as a person.
Arielle was kindly answering the questions that were presented to her. The questions
included her past job experiences, personality, favorite movies, and fears. Through the
interview, it became extremely clear that Arielle is an honest, funny, and concerned
individual. Her past job experience, personality, movie taste, and fears exposed her
intelligence, honesty, humor, and fearfulness that only a friend could understand.
Arielle s past job experience has made her future career choice very clear. Last
summer, Arielle worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore City as a nursing
assistant. She recalled working in the ultrasound department, observing sonograms.

HOW CLAY BRICKS ARE MADE
INTRODUCTION
Clay bricks are used in a wide range of buildings from housing to factories, and in the
construction of tunnels, waterways, bridges etc. Their properties vary according to
the purpose for which they are intended, but clays have provided the basic material of
construction for centuries. Brick is the oldest manufactured building material, and
much of its history is lost in antiquity. The oldest burnt or fired bricks have been
found on the sites of the ancient cities of Babylonia, some of which are estimated to
be about 6000 years old. Brick is, after all, virtually indestructible. The industry
developed on traditional lines, using hand making processes for the most part. ...

Water can be added here or if it is a dry pan the clay is reduced to dust and water
added later. Further crushing takes place through conveyor rollers reducing the clay
particles to about 1 2mm.
FORMING THE BRICK SHAPE
Most bricks are formed by one of two basic processes.
Extrusion
The clay body is mixed to a fairly stiff texture and is then loaded into an extruder
where a worm screw pushes it along a barrel into a vacuum chamber which
compresses it through a taper and out through a die. The die is machined to a
precise size and shape larger than the finished size of the brick, calculating how
much the clay will shrink during the drying and firing process. The clay emerges
as a continuous brick shaped column. Initially this is smooth but it can be modified
by removing a thin sliver from the top and sides using a taught wire to produce a
wiredrag effect or by placing textured rollers over the column to create a rusticated
effect or even by blasting the column with sand. The clay column is then cut into
single bricks and palletised ready for the dryers or in some factories, are loaded
directly onto kiln cars. Extruded bricks are generally perforated and can be solid but
cannot be frogged.

Virginia, is not open when North (union) forces under General Ulysses S. Grant
closes down the end of LeeВґs lines close to Petersburg. The South suffer large
casualties, and the war triggered LeeВґs withdraw from Petersburg as the two armies
started a race that would close a week later at Appomattox Court House. For close to
a year, Grant had laid siege to LeeВґs team in an elaborate network of trenches that
ran from Petersburg to the Confederate capital at Richmond, 25 miles north. Lee s
hungry army steadily diminished through the winter of 1864 65 as Grant s army
swelled with well fed reinforcements. On March 25, Lee attacked some of the North

southwest to Petersburg, but the focus of the battle became Five Forks, a road

commander there, General George Pickett, to Hold Five Forks at all hazards. On
April 1, Sheridan s men banged into Pickett s army. Pickett had his army badly

General Gouverneur K. Warren s V Corps helped Sheridan, and the 27,000 North

causing fever and a red rash on the skin, typically occurring in childhood. This
infectious disease can be prevented by getting a vaccine. A vaccineis a substance used
to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or
several diseases. In the past 50 years, vaccinations have saved more lives worldwide

If your vaccine primed immune system stops an illness before it starts, you will be
contagious for a much shorter period of time, or perhaps not at all (citation).
Receiving these immunizations can also be very cost effective. In a 2005 study on
the economic impact of routine childhood immunization in the United States,
researchers estimated that for every dollar spent, the vaccination program saved
more than $5 in direct costs and approximately $11 in additional costs to society
(Citation). Vaccinating prevents unnecessary illnesses and suffering for your child.
Instead of waiting and seeing if your child with become immune to the disease, why
does not everyone vaccinate which can prevent them all together. Vaccinating your
child is the healthier and cheaper solution. There are numerous people that are
against receiving these vaccinations for various reasons. One of these reasons being
their own personal opinions. These people believe that if they do not want to

they have control over what happens to their body. If we made it so it was illegal to

Racial Tension And Civil Unrest
As diverse as the city of Los Angeles is, it has a history of racial tension and civil
unrest. From 1910, the start of the Mexican Revolution and World War I when
President Theodore Roosevelt instituted the brown scare (Coerver, 2001), to 1913,
when the California Alien Land Act prohibited Japanese immigrants and citizens of
Japanese descent from owning land in California, to 1934, when 3000 Chinese
immigrants were displaced to make way for Union Station, to 1942, when 110,000
Japanese Americans were forced into internment camps, Los Angeles has historically
been the center of racial controversy and tension ( Year by Year, 1999). In 1943, Los
Angeles was also full of young African Americans and Mexican Americans trying to
protest the racism in the American culture by expressing themselves with their own
music, clothing, culture, and style (Cosgrove, 1985). By the time of the Sleepy
Lagoon murder in 1942, the stage had been set for the Zoot SuitRiots that occurred in
June 1943. Although the riots only lasted ten days, the ramifications ranged from
cultural repression on the part of many Mexican Americanfamilies, to political
activism on the part of others, and the beginning of reform within the Los Angeles
Police Department.
In 1910, Mexico entered into a revolution; shortly thereafter the United States
entered World War I. About this time President Theodore Roosevelt started talking
about a brown scare ; profiling Mexican Americans as possible trouble makers
Essay on The Sociological Imagination
According to C. Wright Mills, the sociological imagination is when an individual
views his society as the potential cause for his daily successes and failures.
Individuals often tend to view their personal issues as social problems and try to
connect their individual experiences with the workings of society. Mills believes
that this is the way for individuals to gain an understanding of their personal
dilemmas. The sociological imagination helps people connect their own problems
with public problems and their history. In order for an individual to figure out the
causes of their problems, they first have to be able to understand the causes of the
problems in the society in which they are living in. The sociological imagination tries

There is typically an underlying social force causing the individual to act or think
in that specific way. (Cox, 1986) I like to think of myself as a leader rather than a
follower, but this is not always true. There have been countless times in my life
where I have made decisions based on social forces. When I think of this, one
particular memory stands out. After much deliberation, I had finally come to the
decision that I was going to wear a mimosa colored gown to the wedding. This was
not a decision that I made lightly, as I knew I d never be able to wear it past that
season. The day after I made my decision, I sat down to read the New York Times
with my breakfast. I opened up to the Thursday Styles and the headlines read
something to the effect of Turquoise is the new mimosa . I was beside myself.
How could this be? There was no way that I was going to now wear a mimosa gown.
No, I was definitely going to wear a turquoise colored one. In this scenario, I let a
social force, which in this case was the media, dictate my decision of which color
gown I was going to wear. My sociological imagination had a big role in this
decision. I was hoping to be perceived as in style by wearing a turquoise colored
gown. I was connecting my personal issue with the public issue of our cultural
obsession with being in . All these factors combined helped me come to the
conclusion that I was going to wear a turquoise colored gown. The previous example

Persuasive Essay On Water And Gold
Money is nothing more than a governmental structure where people are forced to
accept the fact that a thin slip of paper holds essential value. For instance, to society,
water and gold have two different values, as well as two different functions. Although
water is a sustenance, gold is somehow worth more. If humans had no concept of
value, we would be less intelligent than monkeys, because even they can understand
the difference of value between food and dirt. Different countries have created their
own form of currency, the modern dollarbill being created by the United States
government. Therefore, the government has the ability to do whatever they wish
because they can print more paper money, and ultimately devalue the dollar any time
they want.
This creates a problem. Eventually, if the government continues to devalue the
dollar, more will become poor, and majority of American citizens will be living in
poverty. Therefore, we must prepare for this outcome. Objections may include that
Obama fixed everything that was wrong with America, or that Trump will make
America Great Again. As unpleasant as preparing for an economic collapse sounds,
it is something we must do. You might be thinking that if all of your debts are wiped
out during an economic collapse, you might as well live it up now, but that will only
create chaos within the country.
I now propose to you a solution, and furthermore, a way to prepare. I urge readers to
focus on the five basics food, water,

Antony used rhetorical questions to help himself seem more persuasive because it

themselves when the rhetorical questions were asked.
How does he gain support of the people?
Antony speaks about Caesar s will and his intentions with the Roman Empire.
Write a fully developed paragraph (12 sentences long; at least two direct quotes)
comparing Antony s and Brutus speeches and explain why Antony s speech is more
effective.
At Caesar s funeral, the people are moved by Brutus speech, however, they find
Antony far more convincing. Antony used rhetorical questions and that resulted in
the crowd to think and get to their emotions. Brutus, on the other hand, continues
on and talks about why Caesar s assassination occurred. Antony mentions what
Caesar has done for Romans. Caesar s will, however, was what mainly caught
people s attention. Antony was begged by the crowd to read it. Eventually, the will
is read to them. Antony s use of rhetorical questions and reading Caesar s will are
two reasons why his speech was more effective. Brutus speech wasn t as effective
because all he did was talk about why Caesar s assassination occurred and tried to
prove to people that he still had love for Caesar. He wanted to show that he was
The Outsiders Should Not Be Banned
The Outsiders English teachers in middle schools and high schools have been
through many debates over the years on whether or not a certain book should be
taught to students in United States public schooling systems. The Outsiders, is a
book that should not be on the list of banned books. Believe it or not the book has
been banned from schools and libraries. The Outsiders should not be banned because
it provides valuable life lessons involving loyalty. Books like this one, that involve
gangmembers, fighting, shooting, stabbing and other gory incidents, should be
portrayed to kids in middle schooland beyond. This generation that people are
growing up in nowadays is a weak, soft generation who need to realize that the
world is not always going to be kind to them. The neighborhoods that a lot of kids
live in are safe environments, which is not a bad thing, but they are unaware of the
horrible things that go on in the ghettos or other places in our nation. Books are a
great way to reach out to kids and show them valuable life lessons while also giving
them learning experiences through that English class they are enrolled in. The
author of this novel, The Outsiders, Susan Eloise Hinton, is a very popular author
of young adult fiction stories and she is especially popular in the Oklahoma area
because she makes the setting in a lot of her books from that area. She wrote the
books That Was Then, This Is Now, Rumble Fish, Tex, and Taming The Star Runner.

Teen Television Dram The Next Generation, By The Bell
And...
Every television show falls into one genre or another. Whether its an Action,
Comedy, Drama, Adventure show, they all fall into the category of different types
of television genres. The concept of a genre can be used in rhetoric, literary theory,
media theory and more recently linguistics, to refer to a distinctive type of text
(Chandler, 1). Thus, every aspect of television exhibits a reliance on genre in which
becomes a principal factor of framing texts which support comprehension.
Throughout this essay, I will focus specifically on the genre of Teen TV Drama using
the television show Degrassi: The Next Generation, and comparing it to two other
programs such as Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills of 90210. Through this notion,

Presently, there are many iconic television shows that draw on the generic identity of
teen drama for instance, Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood s, Degrassi: The Next Generation. Degrassi is known
to be a very popular television show that first started in the 1980 s. It is a franchise
of five television shows that focus on the lives of young teenage students. Some of
Degrassi franchise includes the kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi junior high, and
Degrassi classic. However, in 2001, there was a new addition of Degrassi that was
premiered, Degrassi: The next generation. During its eight seasons, the viewers kept
up with numerous different regular teenagers who go to school at Degrassi High
school and learn to juggle school while being able to maintain a social life and
basically just trying to fit in and finding their place in the world.
Looking back to these three popular shows, we are able to discuss the central genre
of teen drama. However, when examining the three teen drama television shows,
there are many focal points that must be considered. As chandler mentioned before,
genre is known to be a distinctive type of text. However, there are a number of things
that must be considered when analyzing a genre. Not only do we study the text, but
also the creators and producers of the text, the effect the text has
Essay On Academic Achievement
Throughout my academic career, it has always been my mission to perform at my
best ability. I did this not only for myself, but also for my family and friends who
put their faith in my capacity to achieve success. It was my family that raised me to
be family oriented and to give my spare time to those that may need my help. By
applying for the Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society, I am continuing to strive for the
highest level of excellence possible in academics and service to the community.
Through my grades and persistence, I have proven that academic excellence is a
pivotal part of my education. I believe that I have achieved outstanding academic
achievement through my ongoing evolution as a student, my motivation to better
myself, and my desire for success. From freshman year to junior year, I have
evolved and changed in order to learn more effectively and perform better inside

from what I had experienced in high school. This required me to adapt to the higher
level of thinking that was expected from me. Since freshman year of college, I have
actively sought out new study methods in order to understand classroom material. I
realized that simply memorizing the material for one test would not be beneficial to
me in my future career of nursing, so I began to actively understand the material.
Adapting to the higher level of education I have received in college has helped me

Characteristics Of The Null Hypothesis
Our lab investigated the morphological characteristics of leaves found in the sun
and shade on various species of maple and oak trees around campus. Our null
hypothesis was Acer and Quercus acclimate similarly with regards to SLW (specific
leaf weight), size, and sinuosity. Our hypothesis was Quercus acclimation is greater
than Acer SLW, size, and sinuosity. We tested these hypotheses by picking small
sections of a branches from both maple and oaktrees. A group was assigned either a
maple or an oak tree, and needed a total of three different trees per group. Once
three different trees were chosen, groups needed three shade leaves and three sun
leaves of off each different tree. In total, each group should then end up with 18
leaves for testing. After collecting the leaves, we ran them through the LiCor 3100
leafarea meter to identify the area of each leaf. Major results found by the classes
mutual data was each one of our p values were greater than .05. This means that we
failed to reject the null hypothesis. Thus, the lab results do not support our hypothesis
that Quercus acclimation is greater than Acer SLW, size, and sinuosity.
Introduction
In articles written by Thomas Jurik and Ulo Niinements and Kalevi Kull they
discuss how sun and shade leaves look different and why. Both papers suggest that
sun leaves have thicker cuticles and are more deeply lobed. In addition, sun leaves
have less surface area to limit the amount of evapotranspiration that occurs in the

Militarism In Ww1
War World War I (WWI). Words that bring back some horrid memories of an
unpleasant time. The War of 1914 1919, fought with tanks, airplanes, trenches,
machine guns and more. Fought in forms of Alliances such as the Triple Entente,
including France, Russia, and Great Britain. Also the Triple Alliance, which
includes, Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. Fought in the countries of France,
Italy, Russia and Turkey. The Great War, caused by many events such as
imperialism and alliances, but militarism out of all was the underlying (main) cause
to the start of one of the bloodiest wars. To begin, imperialism plays a key role in
the start of, WWI. Imperialism is the practice to extend power, to control or rule by

Militarism was the belief or desire of a government or the people should maintain a
strong military and ready to use it when needed and aggressively to defend or
promote national interests. Building up your army can be a major set of to other
countries, making them feel as if they are about to get attacked. Also other
countries would want to have more power than the others so they would have a
competition that could lead to war. For example, evidence shows in a chart by
Richard Overy, in 1999, all the countries were building up their armies and navy
and spending lots of money on them. This can cause war because if the other
countries saw that another country has a good military they wouldn t want to be
unprepared and they start building up their army and then all hell breaks loose.
Another example written in, The Hammer or the Anvil , by Bernhard von Bulow;
he writes, There is no welfare for us without power, without a strong army and a
strong fleet. (Bulow 1). This shows to readers that they were readying themselves
for some kind of war. This shows to readers that militarism is obviously the
underlying cause for WWI, because without a military there would be no
Using Alternative Fuels For Cars
There are many different types of alternate fuels for cars at our disposal, such as
Ethanol, Natural Gas, Electricity, and Hydrogen Fuels. We can use these fuels
instead of normal gasoline fuels that pollute our air and contribute to destroying
our environment. Many of these alternative fuels may be less convenient to use,
because they are less accessible. However, if people decide to use these fuels then
they can make our world a green friendly world. There this a ton of upside to using
alternative fuels, according to Larry West s article on the top eight alternative fuels,
as they can help nations become more energy independent. In addition, there are
several downsides or challenges associated with alternative fuels for cars, such as...

At its low price it s much more affordable then most fuels making it a good option.
There a lot of positive sides to using ethanol but there an also a few negative things it
can produce when used or even made.
Ethanol is a good alternative fuel but there is negative things that come with it.
Ethanol requires a bunch of corn, barley, and wheat to make (Meyers, 2014).
Which in turn could be used to feed starving people all over the world. Using corn,
barley, and wheat hinders food availability and even the prices of the food. The new
York times has stated that using ethanol actually decreases gas mileage. Ethanol
gives you 2 3 miles less than normal gasoline (West, 2014). Ethanol can also break
down faster than normal gasoline. Meaning that ethanol can cause rust of the car
engine. Making ethanol can actually pollute the air a bunch because of all the
gasoline it requires to power the tractors and machines that gather the required
material to make it. Ethanol has negative impacts on our environment but overall it
has more positives then negatives and makes a good alternative fuel.
Natural Gas is another alternative fuel option that has a bunch of positive sides to it.
Using natural gas produces lower negative emissions that pollute the air. Natural gas
produces less smog then your normal gasoline that everyone uses. Natural gas is
helping America as a nation to use clean environmental friendly energy sources.
Using natural gas can reduce the probability of

course you should. However, you may be wondering why you would take the time

insulating residential pipes and what are the benefits to you?
The benefits for pipe insulation come in three basic forms, all of which have the
eventual result of saving you money. Insulation reduces heat loss in hot water pipes,
helps prevent freezing of water lines, and prevents condensation from forming on the
outside. How does this translate into saving you money?
Keeping the Hot Water Hot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Home improvement experts estimate that by properly insulating your hot water pipes,
you can turn the temperature of your water heater down about 2 to 4 degrees. This
translates into a direct savings on your energy bill. Admittedly, most savings are not
huge, but they continue year after year. They often recoup the cost of installing the
insulation the first year.
Keeping the Cold Water From Freezing
If you live above the freezing line, then you have probably heard horror stories about
water pipes freezing and bursting. This causes hundreds, and sometimes thousands of
dollars worth of damage. Water usually comes from the supply at about 50 degrees
Celsius. When it enters your home, it is emerging from the (relatively) warm
underground into a below freezing environment. With little to no water movement,
that water freezes solid, expands, and breaks out of the pipe. Insulation stops this
thermal transfer, keeping your pipes from freezing and saving you the cost of cleanup.

Chapter 2 Of The Annual Shape Trip-Personal Narrative
It was day 2 of the annual canoe trip that my Boy Scout troop goes on. I was in a
kayak because of a lack of canoes. The day started out with a cold and groggy
morning. The scouts ventured out to find wood to start a fire with, and the adults
began to fix breakfast and their morning cup of coffee. After the boys had gathered
enough wood for a fire, and the adults had breakfast prepared to be cooked, the
scouts constructed a roaring fire for everyone to cook their food over. Breakfast
was set to be fish. Since we were without any electronics or cooking devices, we
made hobo packs, which consisted of putting all of our food in an aluminum foil
wrap and heating it. The painstaking wait was over, and we now had a delicious
meal to fill our stomachs before another day on the water.... Show more content on

The day began a slow one. It picked up as time ticked by. Eventually, the time for
lunch had rolled around, so we stopped on an island to have lunch. Slowly, but
surely, the entire troop regrouped at the island and enjoyed a tasty meal of hotdogs
and chips. Lunch came to an end, and everyone s stomachs were full. Once more,
we abided by our Scout Motto, and left the island so we could paddle our way to the
end of our endeavour. Just a short distance of nearly a mile from the island, some
heavy rapids awaited our coming. They were something we all had to just deal
with, and figure out by trial and error, the best way to pass through them. A fellow
scout of mine, Ben, decided he wanted to be the first to try his luck in these rapids.
Ben was a first year scout, who had never been on the canoe trip before. Ben was in a
kayak as well. I followed closely behind Ben so that I could be of assistance should

The Core Values Of Zappos
The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit
organizations in several countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber,
Zappos.com has been the first organizational reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online
shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by Amazon since 2009. During
the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern was to
maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a
culture that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm
alive and healthy. Such an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up
the ten core values of the Zappos family:
deliver wow through service;
embrace and drive change;
create fun and a little weirdness;
be adventurous, creative, and open minded;
pursue growth and learning;
build open and honest relationships with communication;
build a positive team and family spirit;
do more with less;
be passionate and determined;
be humble.
The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos
way and folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s
most significant innovations is making governance something that happens at every
level of the organization. Governance becomes an ongoing process that happens in

Essay Russian Revolution and Orwell
Russian Revolution and Orwell
Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution have many similarities and ideas. The
characters, settings, and the plots are the same. In addition Animal Farm is a satire
and allegory of the Russian Revolution, George Orwell meant for it to be that way.
My essay will cover the comparison between Animal Farm and the Russian
Revolution. Also it will explain why this novel is a satire and allegory to the
Revolution.
First of all the characters of the farm have a special role in Russian Revolution. The
farm itself represents Russia, with its poor conditions and non responsible leaders.
Napoleon, the evil pig who plays Joseph Stalin in real life. Snowball, the leader who
gives aid and information to Napoleon and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both the novel and Russian Revolution cover the same ideas because of these
reasons. In the Russian Revolution an non responsible leader name Nicholas the
second or how people those days refer to him as the Czar was overthrown by a new
leader with better ideas and ways to keep Russia alive. Stalin ruled for a great
period of time, and so he got kicked out too, this time by his own people. In Animal
Farm an old pig named Old Major has a dream about a world where animals rule,
there are no differences, all equality, a dream about communism. This same thought
applies with the idea of Stalin and his plan in ruling Russia. So when Snowball
hears this he and his comrades get ready to attack the government, Mr. Jones (also
known as the Czar ). When he is overthrown Snowball becomes the leader and is
betrayed by Napoleon. This event is when Stalin kicks out Lenin. Mendez 3
Animal Farm is a great example of a Political Satire . In Chapter one it tells how the
author, George Orwell, feels about the novel. Also it gives reference to the farm and
how it relates to Russia. But you can see all the irony in chapter two. Human nature
can t handle communism . We are too devious and too demanding for the things we
want, we are bossy . From chapter two to the last chapter shows how the novel is

The Keynesian School Of Economic Thought
Our economy has evolved from centuries ago to what it is today from the start of
supply and demand and learning how to make trades. The foundations of this
learning process has also came from theories on how to manage and control the
economy. This has been built from several thinkers and theorist implanting their
ideas into action and having results in the prosperity or failure of an economy. As
these theories have evolved as well and some with great prosperity they have been
recognized and titled as the Keynesian School of Economic Thought as this is a
theory believing aggregate demand is influenced by public and private economic
decisions. There is also the Monetarism School of Economic Thought which focuses
on how the money supply has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only thing that really drags down the aggregate demand or GDP would be if the
country brought in more imported goods than anything else. A public decision would
be the money that government programs put into the economy, investing in programs
such as education, medical research, Medicare and other things. In the formula, these
variables would be Government spending and Investment spending. Private decisions
are an individual s decisions on where to spend money. In the formula, this is
represented by investment spending and consumption spending. Keynesian
Economics relies on that they believe the government can kickstart the economy by
spending money when in a down period.
Another school of thought is that changes in aggregate demand, whether anticipated
or unanticipated, have their greatest short run effects on real output and employment,
not on prices. John Maynard Keynes said that everything in life is in the short run.
The theory believes that just because something is happening in the short run, may
not necessarily mean it will happen in the long run. He thought the government
should get involved when the economy was stagnant to give it a boost and get it
moving again in the short run. They also believe that monetary policy effects, output
and employment only. That makes sense because as the more money that is pumped
in, the more a good needs to be produced and the more goods needing to be produced
means the more people you
Case Study Of Swift Burgers
Karen Deria is a married mother of two children in a typical family home in
Marikina City. To support her children s education, Mrs. Deria decided to venture
in a burger making business after realizing that she has a great recipe for burgers.
In January 2016, she made use of a capital of в‚±500,000 to start this venture. She
named her business Swift Burgers because it aims to produce ready to serve
burgers in hopes of competing with the large fast food chains around her area while
providing customers with affordable yet delicious burgers. Ultimately, she envisions
Swift Burgers to be easily available and affordable all over the Philippines.
Swift Burgers can be classified as a sole proprietorship, or an unincorporated

business and the owner. In other words, she is entitled to all profits and is solely

KV Pharmaceuticals Case Study Essay
Introduction Business ethics is an extremely important topic in our world today.
This is especially true because of the fact that we live in a changing society where
it has become increasingly common to see more and more cases of companies that
participate in illegal, immoral and unethical activities. So that we can prevent
these behaviors, it is necessary to study and understand how these situations can
occur and what we can do to prevent them from happening. In this research paper,
we will examine in detail the case of KV Pharmaceuticals, also known as KV. We will
discuss a few major areas of topic that include how and why these events took place,
as well as what could have been done to prevent them. Next, we will take a look at...

One month later, KV decided to recall some of the morphine sulfate it had distributed,
and it also filed a field alert report to the FDA informing them about their recall. KV
immediately began an internal investigation of their manufacturing process and their
products; the investigation revealed that not only were the morphine sulfate pills
oversized, but the propafenone and dextroamphetamine sulfate tablets as well. These
oversized tablets can result in the patients receiving almost twice the amount of the
recommended dose, which can lead to fatal consequences. Propafenone is an anti
arrhythmic medication that treats illnesses associated with heart palpitations. An
overdose can cause low blood pressure or heart palpitations which may lead to death.
Dextroamphetamine sulfate is used to treat narcolepsy, ADHD in children, epilepsy
and parkinsonism; an overdose can lead to fatal poisoning (KV Pharmaceutical,
2010).
The complaints led to the inspection of KV by the FDA from December 2008 to
February 2009; the inspection results confirmed that KV Pharmaceuticals had a
considerable amount of cGMP violations, and even then they decided to manufacture
unapproved drugs. While conducting the inspection, the FDA also realized that
ETHEX had never filed the field alert reports concerning the oversized propafenone
and dextroamphetamine sulfate tablets, which is required under the Food, Drug, and
Cosmetic Act. This Act states that drug manufacturers must carefully

Essay on Drugs and Rock and Roll
Drugs and Rock and Roll Beginning with the late 1960 s counterculture in San
Francisco, music and drugs will forever be inter linked. Hippie bands such as the
Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, and Phish are associated with marijuana,
mushrooms, and LSD. Modern electronic rave , or club music is associated with
MDMA or Ecstasy. When one thinks of rock and roll, sex and drugs immediately
come to mind. While the use of drugs is not essential for the creation or performance
of all new music, it was certainly in important factor for the counterculture music of
the late 1960 s. While some of the most important and influential music was made
with the help of psychoactive drugs, it was often to the detriment of the artist. Janis...

Psychedelics, and drugs in general became such an important part of life during
the 60 s that it s influence was inescapable. Nowhere can this fact be seen more
clearly than in the music of the time. The most obvious influence drugs had on
music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s
Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds ,
obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug inspired, as
Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from
Aldous Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of
drug use. Even the music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of
the music by the Doors. Their song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the
world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in the song was probably created
with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard while on drugs.
This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much more
clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of
their music is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs.
Hearing one of their 30 minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that
is the experience that they intended the audience to have. While drugs were very
much connected to the music of the sixties,

Again, it is essential to point out that there is no timetable for healing or grieving;
it takes time, and it should not be forced or hurried. Some can heal within a few
weeks, but others may need months or years. Grieving is a slow and gradual
process, and it is vital to be patient and allow the grieving process to unfold
naturally (Maclejewski et al., 2007). There are a few myths associated with
grieving. One of them says that a person ought to be strong in the face of a loss.
Feeling lonely, frightened or sad in the wake of a loss is a normal reaction, and it
does not show that the grieving person is weak (Maclejewski et al., 2007). Hiding
the feeling is not helpful; it is healthy to grief. Another myth suggests that the pain
will go away by ignoring it; it is vital to face the truth. Running away from it won t
help; in fact, it will lengthen the grieving process. Additionally, other fallaciously
thinks that those who do not cry are not hurt by the loss. That is not true; some
people may grief but not necessarily by crying; therefore, judging them because they
did not cry, is wrong.
Elizabeth Kubler Ross engineered the five stage grieving model; she based her
theory on the feeling terminally ill patients had (Maclejewski et al., 2007). However,
this model has been found to be useful in

In contrast, there exist many intermediaries with the traditional radio business model.

The part about the Rocky statue that makes it so universal is that it represents the
tale of an underdog. This underdog tale not only relates to Philadelphians, but it
inspires people everywhere. An interview was conducted where boxers were asked
to talk about Rocky s impact on Philadelphia. Justin Sargus, a boxer in Philadelphia
says The impact it has had on fighters, and what they think they can do, and endure,
and the way they go about training and style is certainly still felt today. A world
championship is a possibility, based from being a relative unknown . (Dinero 1)
The statue gives Philadelphia something monumental to stand on and something to
represent all the hardship the city has been through. The Rocky character also
embraces the culture, and lifestyle of a true Philadelphian. He eats at the same
restaurants, runs through the same streets, and speaks like a Philadelphia. This
gives the statue a personal connection to the people of the city, one they can claim
as their own. The places and stores seen in the movie are very popular tourist
attractions in the city. Zeke Ferguson from Di Brunos Bros, a popular site from the
movie says It is an iconic story of an underdog which I think all Philadelphians
have been at, at one time or another, and it shows you can succeed in the face of
overwhelming odds (Dinero 1) The city is filled with an enormous amount of
diversity and just as the city and its people have been through hard times, so has
Rocky. The statue also appeals to people worldwide not only because of its iconic
underdog story, but because of its ability to appeal on a personal level. Whenever
failure is upon someone, Rocky inspires them to come back strong because if you
work hard you can achieve your goals. Justin Sargus says The thing about the Rocky
movies is that they make it seem like you can take an enormous amount

People of color, specifically African Americans, need to be understood. This is the
only group in the room that does not have an identity. When looking at the group,
each man could relate to their original culture, for example, Lee Mun Wah and David

The American Dream In The Virgin Suicides
Jeffrey Eugenides novel, The Virgin Suicides, depicts the lives of the Lisbon family.
Within the novel, we as readers, learn about the lives or more like the suicides of the
5 Lisbon girls: Cecilla, Lux, Bonnie, Mary, and Therese. Through the suicides,
Eugenide connects the fictional world of the novelto the nonfictional world that we
live in. Along with this, he also depicts his messages through different themes such
as the lack of freedom. Finally, Eugenides uses different postmodern approaches to
his novel in order to stress importance. The Virgin Suicides shows a clear depiction
as to how the fictional world in the novel can relate to the nonfictional world.
Eugenindes uses two different concepts that prove this connection. One connection
is the presence of suicide. Another one is the depletion of the American Dream.
Each of these components comes together in order to connect to nonfictional
world that we live in. As readers can see from the title of the book, suicides will be a
huge part of the novel. In the fictional world of the book, readers see the suicides of
5 young sisters who all take their lives in different ways except for two of them....

Capstone Project Report Project Definition: The purpose of this project was to
design and construct a robot that would demonstrate the skills we ve learned in
our program up until this point. This includes following pin diagrams for
components, wiring circuits, soldering, programming, and troubleshooting on
both a physical and digital level. To demonstrate those skills, Josh and I decided to
create a product that would have the ability to detect and avoid obstacles using an
ultra sonic frequency generator. Practical applications: An excellent real world
application for this type of program would be in an industrial manufacturing
setting. With the rise of automata in manufacturing a microcontroller designed
and programmed to actively avoid obstacles is a must. With this technology,
technicians and other employees operating in the vicinity of high speed machinery
would be much safer, as beforehand, you would need to bring the operation to a halt
in order to move into a machines operational area, because there would be a chance
that people could be injured or even killed by the machines inability to recognize
their presence. The best part about it, is that its already being implemented by

had any siblings, but they were raised in caring households by nurturing guardians.
They each have a given name that they are not referred to as often as their iconic
hero name. Superman s adoptive parents gave him the name of Clark, Clark Kent.
Batman s actual birth given name is Bruce Wayne. Both men have a ridiculously
large amount of wealth. Batman always had money, because he was born into a rich
household. Superman also has a large sum of money, but he did not grow up with
loads of cash. Both heroes share certain personal attributes; although, they still have
more in common. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of them fight crime routinely in their own individual city. Batman fights crime
in Gotham City and Superman fights crime in Metropolis. Their fighting abilities are
out of this world, and they are both ridiculously strong. Batman works hard for his
strength, but superman has always been super strong. They both have their own form
of an arch enemy and a special suit that they wear when they fight crime. Batman has
an insane clown as an archenemy, but superman has a thing as his archenemy.
Superman s archenemy is kryptonite. Most suits feature a tie and a coat, but batman
and superman s suits feature their underwear on the outside of the suit. These two
heroes have coinciding things about their work
Bank Loans
BANK LOANS statistics project on bank loans
1. Introduction
This study has been conducted in order to obtain some extra information regarding
credit retrieval from banks. We have collected data from 120 people which have
contracted bank loans, by asking them to answer our questionnaire. The questionnaire
consists of 15 interconnected questions we consider relevant and might help interpret
the results better.
In a loan, the borrower initially receives an amount of money, called the principal,
from the lender, and is obligated to pay back or repay an equal amount of money to
the lender at a later time. The loan is generally provided at a cost, referred to as
interest on the debt, which provides an incentive for the lender to engage ... Show

2.4. Children
Children seem to play a major role in the decision of getting a bank loan of a
person or couple. Out of the selected persons, only 27 did not have any children and
most of them were in our youngest age group, fact that is understanble considering
the implications that raising a child has. Most people had one or two children, but
there were two cases in which the person had more than three children.

2.5. Education level
As expected, the education level had a major impact on the number of loans
accesed. The wining category was the bachelor degree one, as people from this
group have a higher level of education and are prone to have better jobs, thus having
more chances in receiving a loan from a bank. Furthermore, they are the ones that
require more money for investments, which usually comes from banks. The sutyd
revealed that 67 people with a bachelor degree had a loan, thus more than 50% of the
total interviewed subjects.
On the other hand, there were 23 people who had finished high school and responded
positive, showing that loans for personal needs attract customers.

2.6. Profession

results. Although we tried to offer a large variety of options, many of the interviewed
volunteers chose the option Other . The graph speaks for

The Awakening
By: Kate Chopin
AP Literature
Topic 3
Hart 1 Over the course of time the male species has always been the gender to attain
the more favorable conditions. Numerous cultures heed to the belief that the man is
the provider and head of his family. This machismo nature can condition the mindto
believe that a man should feel superior to a woman. The continuous cycle of male
superiority flows down from father to son subconsciously. Do to this unceasing
sequence of behavior women fall subject to repression and control at the hands of
mentally undeveloped men. Kate Chopin s The Awakening, illustrated this particular
topic in a way that not only appealed to the readers sense of pathos but, the readers
likeliness to be able to relate to the aforementioned as well. Chopin stylistically
renders the struggle of the protagonist Edna Pontellier, a strong willed woman who
finds herself imprisoned to the concept of trans temporal existence, as she seeks
refuge to her true being, Edna experiments relationships with multiple men that
unintentionally repress her existence. Between Leonce Pontellier, Robert Lebrun,
Alcee Arobin and The Colonel effect of Edna s life they catalyze her awakening
and ultimately lead her suicide. There are certain ideals that need to be met while
being in a relationship; they play concrete roles in the stability of the partnership.
The idea of Edna being confined in a marriage with Mr. Pontellier who doesn t
Facebook Password Essay
Sharing Facebook Password
Employers and schools nowadays evaluate applicants from their social media
accounts. For example, the applicant s Facebook profile could be used to get
information such as age, residence and even academic history. What worries Joanna
Stern in the article, Demanding Facebook Passwords May Break Law, Say Senators
is the fact that employers and schools require employees and students to give their
Facebook passwords to access their profiles. This practice poses unanticipated legal
liabilities. Thus, government officials have rose against the practice. Indeed,
requiring a user to share Facebook account s password for access to the user s profile
is morally wrong and does not meet its intended objective.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such information could cause organizations to make wrong conclusions on a user
based on the wrongful information on the user.
However, this practice has been noted to be beneficiary in understanding the
character of an employee or student. Going through their profiles would reveal more
on their relationships and interactions with other people. This would help
organizations get the rightful applicants because an error in this could result in
irreparable harm. Even so, as this practice becomes widespread, people would
always clean their accounts before interviews to depict the needful and erase the
undesired. This way, employers and schools would not gather useful information as
the profile would have been customized to impress. Additionally, people could
operate Facebook accounts to be used for interviews. Such accounts would contain
what would be considered desirable for interviewers. They would have other accounts
for normal socialization. Therefore, at the end of it, interviewers who access their
Facebook accounts get wrong information on the interviewee.
Despite the increased practice of requiring interviewees to provide passwords for
their Facebook accounts so as to analyze their profiles, the practice does not meet its
goals. It is an infringement into people s privacy thus illegal. More wrong than right
information would be retrieved as most people use disguised identities on social
media.
Revolt of Mother, by Mary E. Wilkins Essay
The story Revolt of Mother, by Mary E. Wilkins depicts a woman (Sarah Penn)
who is constantly exempt by her husband (Adonriam Penn) in taking part in
important decisions until her frustration reached a breaking point, which ultimately
leads to drastic changes in their family. In contrast a similar conflict arises in the
movie Sleeping With the Enemy (1991), which was directed by Joseph Ruben. In
the movie the main character, Laura Burney, had everything her heart desired. On
the surface she had a beautiful house, a successful husband, and any material item
she could ever want. However below the surface she was really married to a
possessive as well as a physically abusive husband who made all the impressive
luxuries she had seem... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gradually the reader is introduced to Adonriam and Sarah s ambitions, which
begin structuring the conflict at hand. Adonriam s goals are obviously work
driven due to the fact that he decided to build a barn instead building a better house
for his family. Sarah s growing frustration with her lack of influence in decision
making ultimately fuels her ambition to go against societies norm, and decides to
strip her husband s power. It is evident that Adonriam mentality is that his wife
should take on a position of servitude, while he takes charge and makes the
decisions. Sarah s presumed role is to be the housewife with little to no power. The
conflict is resolved in the last paragraphs where Sarah moves her family into the
barn while her husband was gone. Sarah is definitely the winner because once her
husband comes back he does not tell her anything about it, and even tearfully says, I
ll put up the partitions, an everything you want, mother. There is an absolute shift in
power from Adonriam to Sarah in the end, which would also make Adonriam the
loser. In Sleeping With the Enemy similar conflicts arise shortly after the movie
begins. The movie saturates the viewer around the general conflict regarding the
stereotypical gender roles within a marriage. The conflict is clearly evident in the
very start of the movie where her husband (Martin Burney) beats his wife (Laura
Burney) after he

How Weather Conditions Affects Health and Well Being Singapore is an island lying
north of the Equator. Because it lies in the tropics, it receives sufficient sunlight, has
mostly uniform temperature and pressure, high humidity and abundant rainfall.
Singapore s climate can be categorized into two main monsoonseasons.
During the Northeast Monsoon season, from December to early March, northeast
winds prevail. It is cloudy with frequent afternoon rain in the early part of this
season. From late March to May, winds and showers are present mostly during

Cold weather contracts blood vessels. Hence, heart attacks, migraines, and high
blood pressure, caused by constriction of blood vessels and insufficient blood flow,
can be triggered by cold weather. According to research conducted by the New
England Center for Headache, as many as half of all migraines are triggered by
weather conditions. This applies for Raynaud s phenomenon where the blood vessels
dilate and blood flow is disrupted.
Cold weather increases joint stiffness and affects people with arthritis. Arthritis
patients believe that the lower the barometric pressure, the greater the pain in the
joints. An example is that the residents at the North Shore Hotel note when the
barometric pressure goes down, their pain goes up. Their arthritis goes into overdrive
before a storm.
Nerve fiber coverings break down more easily, causing Multiple sclerosis to happen
more frequently in cold weather. For Fibromyalgia Syndrome, a 1981 survey reported
that more than 90% of the patients felt worse in cold and humid weather. Changes in
barometric pressure affected those with the syndrome.
Sinus headaches are caused by barometric pressure as the nasal cavities are not able
to adapt quickly to the change in air pressure. Asthma is often caused by high winds
as these bring pollen and particles which some have allergies to.
In our research, we have also found out that sunlight can be both beneficial and
harmful to the human body. The

  • 1. What Is Poverty Essay Writing an essay on the topic of poverty can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires a nuanced understanding of the subject and the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner. Poverty is a multifaceted issue that encompasses economic, social, and political dimensions, making it essential for the writer to delve deep into various aspects of the topic. One of the difficulties lies in striking the right balance between providing factual information and incorporating a humanistic perspective. The essay should not only present statistical data and theoretical frameworks but also capture the human experience of poverty. This necessitates careful research to gather relevant data, case studies, and real-life examples that can resonate with the reader on an emotional level. Crafting a coherent and logical argument is another challenge. Poverty is interconnected with numerous factors, such as education, healthcare, employment, and societal structures. The writer must skillfully weave these elements together to build a comprehensive narrative that elucidates the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to poverty. Moreover, addressing the complexity of poverty requires sensitivity and empathy. It's crucial to avoid oversimplification and generalization while acknowledging the diversity of experiences within the broad spectrum of poverty. Balancing objectivity with compassion is a delicate task, as the essay should neither romanticize nor stigmatize individuals living in poverty. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of poverty demands a blend of research, empathy, and analytical thinking. It involves navigating through a myriad of interconnected issues and presenting a well-constructed argument that engages the reader. • 2. Cosmos, Balance And Order In Ancient China The ancient chinese believed that the cosmos had a greater logic as well as order. This concept of the cosmos lies at the heart of chinese culture which shows why the concept dealing with the cosmos is important. Foundations to the chinese beliefs within the concept of the cosmos, balance, and order are important to the chapter due to the chinese culture being highly influenced by their beliefs about the world. The idea of order comes from balance within the chinese culture. When things seem to be out of balance diviners might use their ability to reliably predict the future and in turn say that the universewill right itself. Another important concept is the yin yang symbol. This helps apply to the world view of the chinese due to their influence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of the art that was influenced is the bronze casting. The idea of yin and yang is present in this because a negative space shape is filled with the positive shape of the molten metal. The yin and yang symbols represent both a light and dark aka positive and negative shapes that fit together. One without the other would be incomplete and this is clearly seen in the bronze casting technique of the chinese. An example of the art that is produced from this technique is called the guang or ritual wine vessel. Another important concept within the chapter is the influence of daoism and Chu spirituality on Chinese culture. The idea of spirituality, that is free, exotic, and full of worshipping ghosts and spirits through shamans and priests was exhibited in the Chu spirituality. Although the concept of daoism and confucian logic were starkly different from the Chu beliefs they still all had an impact on the development of the culture. The daoist belief of restraint, simplicity in life, and achieving enlightenment through such simplicity and self control also contributed to the Chinese

Breathing Underwater is a novel written by Alex Flinn about a 16 year old boy named Nick who has been accused of beating his ex girlfriend Caitlin. The book tackles very serious subjects such as abuse and anger. The movie, Finding Forrester, is about a young man named Jamal Wallace who undergoes a big life change when he meets a famous author. In many ways, the novel and the movie seem to mirror and reflect the familiar elements. However, many differences come up when reviewing the plot line and different aspects of the two stories. While one may draw parallels to the missing parent figures in our main character s lives, the role s those parents left seemed to differ in the novel and the film. Nick s mother s absence seems to be why Nick is so cold hearted. The abuse by Nick s father can be related to his mother not being present and also his ability to justify his own personal agenda. Nick seems to victimize himself for everything that happened to him throughout the book. However, Jamal seems to be better suited for overcoming obstacles and not whining about them. Jamal s lack of a father figure seemed to have made him a better person and helped him grow into the person he is today. He doesn t victimize himself because he, himself, realizes that his own life is a choice. He takes responsibility for what he does and he grows from it. Jamal s lack of a father helped him learn, ultimately, that he is the master of his own fate. Whereas, it took Nick the whole novel to realize this and take responsibility. Lastly, Breathing Underwater and Finding Forrester are similar in their writing. Nick and Jamal are both given a gift to write. Writing is a heavily influential theme made in both the novel and the film. Nick and Jamal use writing as an outlet to channel their frustration and struggles in their lives. It allows them to grow and express a sense of individuality, as well as giving them opportunities. In the end of bothe the novel and the book, both characters used their writing to benefit and help them advance their lives. Nick gets Tom back and Jamal get a large portion of money to help him in his future

This is a duty that most nurses are aware of prior to going into the field, however, they may not be fully aware of the impact these varied shifts have on personal health and performance. These types of fluctuating work hours are often referred to as shift work, which is defined by Berger and Hobbs (2006) as shifts taking place aside from the traditional daytime hours (p. 465). Typical hospital shifts outside of the day shift are usually classified as evening shift or night shift. TECHNICAL INFORMATION SHEET 16 HOW CLAY BRICKS ARE MADE INTRODUCTION Clay bricks are used in a wide range of buildings from housing to factories, and in the construction of tunnels, waterways, bridges etc. Their properties vary according to the purpose for which they are intended, but clays have provided the basic material of construction for centuries. Brick is the oldest manufactured building material, and much of its history is lost in antiquity. The oldest burnt or fired bricks have been found on the sites of the ancient cities of Babylonia, some of which are estimated to be about 6000 years old. FORMING THE BRICK SHAPE Most bricks are formed by one of two basic processes. Extrusion The clay body is mixed to a fairly stiff texture and is then loaded into an extruder where a worm screw pushes it along a barrel into a vacuum chamber which compresses it through a taper and out through a die. The die is machined to a precise size and shape larger than the finished size of the brick, calculating how much the clay will shrink during the drying and firing process. The clay emerges as a continuous brick shaped column. Initially this is smooth but it can be modified by removing a thin sliver from the top and sides using a taught wire to produce a wiredrag effect or by placing textured rollers over the column to create a rusticated effect or even by blasting the column with sand. The clay column is then cut into single bricks and palletised ready for the dryers or in some factories, are loaded directly onto kiln cars. Extruded bricks are generally perforated and can be solid but cannot be frogged. Soft mud moulding. This covers a number of processes where

  • 11. Essay on The Sociological Imagination According to C. Wright Mills, the sociological imagination is when an individual views his society as the potential cause for his daily successes and failures. Individuals often tend to view their personal issues as social problems and try to connect their individual experiences with the workings of society. Mills believes that this is the way for individuals to gain an understanding of their personal dilemmas. (Cox, 1986) I like to think of myself as a leader rather than a follower, but this is not always true. There have been countless times in my life where I have made decisions based on social forces. When I think of this, one particular memory stands out. After much deliberation, I had finally come to the decision that I was going to wear a mimosa colored gown to the wedding. This was not a decision that I made lightly, as I knew I d never be able to wear it past that season. The day after I made my decision, I sat down to read the New York Times with my breakfast. I opened up to the Thursday Styles and the headlines read something to the effect of Turquoise is the new mimosa . I was beside myself. How could this be? There was no way that I was going to now wear a mimosa gown. No, I was definitely going to wear a turquoise colored one. In this scenario, I let a social force, which in this case was the media, dictate my decision of which color gown I was going to wear. My sociological imagination had a big role in this decision. I was hoping to be perceived as in style by wearing a turquoise colored gown. I was connecting my personal issue with the public issue of our cultural obsession with being in . All these factors combined helped me come to the conclusion that I was going to wear a turquoise colored gown. The previous example may seem
  • 12. Persuasive Essay On Water And Gold Money is nothing more than a governmental structure where people are forced to accept the fact that a thin slip of paper holds essential value. For instance, to society, water and gold have two different values, as well as two different functions. Although water is a sustenance, gold is somehow worth more. If humans had no concept of value, we would be less intelligent than monkeys, because even they can understand the difference of value between food and dirt. Different countries have created their own form of currency, the modern dollarbill being created by the United States government. Therefore, the government has the ability to do whatever they wish because they can print more paper money, and ultimately devalue the dollar any time they want. This creates a problem. Eventually, if the government continues to devalue the dollar, more will become poor, and majority of American citizens will be living in poverty. Therefore, we must prepare for this outcome. Objections may include that Obama fixed everything that was wrong with America, or that Trump will make America Great Again. As unpleasant as preparing for an economic collapse sounds, it is something we must do. You might be thinking that if all of your debts are wiped out during an economic collapse, you might as well live it up now, but that will only create chaos within the country. I now propose to you a solution, and furthermore, a way to prepare. I urge readers to focus on the five basics food, water,

Antony mentions what Caesar has done for Romans. Caesar s will, however, was what mainly caught people s attention. Antony was begged by the crowd to read it. Eventually, the will is read to them. Antony s use of rhetorical questions and reading Caesar s will are two reasons why his speech was more effective. The Outsiders Should Not Be Banned The Outsiders English teachers in middle schools and high schools have been through many debates over the years on whether or not a certain book should be taught to students in United States public schooling systems. The Outsiders, is a book that should not be on the list of banned books. Believe it or not the book has been banned from schools and libraries. The Outsiders should not be banned because it provides valuable life lessons involving loyalty. Books like this one, that involve gangmembers, fighting, shooting, stabbing and other gory incidents, should be portrayed to kids in middle schooland beyond. This generation that people are growing up in nowadays is a weak, soft generation who need to realize that the world is not always going to be kind to them. The neighborhoods that a lot of kids live in are safe environments, which is not a bad thing, but they are unaware of the horrible things that go on in the ghettos or other places in our nation. Books are a great way to reach out to kids and show them valuable life lessons while also giving them learning experiences through that English class they are enrolled in. The author of this novel, The Outsiders, Susan Eloise Hinton, is a very popular author of young adult fiction stories and she is especially popular in the Oklahoma area because she makes the setting in a lot of her books from that area. She wrote the books That Was Then, This Is Now, Rumble Fish, Tex, and Taming The Star Runner. The Outsiders was

It was my family that raised me to be family oriented and to give my spare time to those that may need my help. By applying for the Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society, I am continuing to strive for the highest level of excellence possible in academics and service to the community. Through my grades and persistence, I have proven that academic excellence is a pivotal part of my education. I believe that I have achieved outstanding academic achievement through my ongoing evolution as a student, my motivation to better myself, and my desire for success. From freshman year to junior year, I have evolved and changed in order to learn more effectively and perform better inside and outside of the classroom. The dynamics of college classes are far different from what I had experienced in high school. This required me to adapt to the higher level of thinking that was expected from me. Since freshman year of college, I have actively sought out new study methods in order to understand classroom material. I realized that simply memorizing the material for one test would not be beneficial to me in my future career of nursing, so I began to actively understand the material. Adapting to the higher level of education I have received in college has helped me become a more
  • 17. Characteristics Of The Null Hypothesis Our lab investigated the morphological characteristics of leaves found in the sun and shade on various species of maple and oak trees around campus. Our null hypothesis was Acer and Quercus acclimate similarly with regards to SLW (specific leaf weight), size, and sinuosity. Our hypothesis was Quercus acclimation is greater than Acer SLW, size, and sinuosity. We tested these hypotheses by picking small sections of a branches from both maple and oaktrees. A group was assigned either a maple or an oak tree, and needed a total of three different trees per group. Once three different trees were chosen, groups needed three shade leaves and three sun leaves of off each different tree. In total, each group should then end up with 18 leaves for testing. After collecting the leaves, we ran them through the LiCor 3100 leafarea meter to identify the area of each leaf. Major results found by the classes mutual data was each one of our p values were greater than .05. This means that we failed to reject the null hypothesis. Thus, the lab results do not support our hypothesis that Quercus acclimation is greater than Acer SLW, size, and sinuosity. Introduction In articles written by Thomas Jurik and Ulo Niinements and Kalevi Kull they discuss how sun and shade leaves look different and why. Both papers suggest that sun leaves have thicker cuticles and are more deeply lobed. In addition, sun leaves have less surface area to limit the amount of evapotranspiration that occurs in the leaves

Militarism was the belief or desire of a government or the people should maintain a strong military and ready to use it when needed and aggressively to defend or promote national interests. Building up your army can be a major set of to other countries, making them feel as if they are about to get attacked. Also other countries would want to have more power than the others so they would have a competition that could lead to war. For example, evidence shows in a chart by Richard Overy, in 1999, all the countries were building up their armies and navy and spending lots of money on them. This can cause war because if the other countries saw that another country has a good military they wouldn t want to be unprepared and they start building up their army and then all hell breaks loose. Another example written in, The Hammer or the Anvil , by Bernhard von Bulow; he writes, There is no welfare for us without power, without a strong army and a strong fleet. (Bulow 1). This shows to readers that they were readying themselves for some kind of war. This shows to readers that militarism is obviously the underlying cause for WWI, because without a military there would be no

There a lot of positive sides to using ethanol but there an also a few negative things it can produce when used or even made. Ethanol is a good alternative fuel but there is negative things that come with it. Ethanol requires a bunch of corn, barley, and wheat to make (Meyers, 2014). Which in turn could be used to feed starving people all over the world. Using corn, barley, and wheat hinders food availability and even the prices of the food. The new York times has stated that using ethanol actually decreases gas mileage. Ethanol gives you 2 3 miles less than normal gasoline (West, 2014). Ethanol can also break down faster than normal gasoline. Meaning that ethanol can cause rust of the car engine. Making ethanol can actually pollute the air a bunch because of all the gasoline it requires to power the tractors and machines that gather the required material to make it. Ethanol has negative impacts on our environment but overall it has more positives then negatives and makes a good alternative fuel. Natural Gas is another alternative fuel option that has a bunch of positive sides to it. Using natural gas produces lower negative emissions that pollute the air. Natural gas produces less smog then your normal gasoline that everyone uses. Natural gas is helping America as a nation to use clean environmental friendly energy sources. Pipe Insulation Benefits Exploring the Benefits of Pipe Insulation If you ask any plumber or home improvement specialist is you should bother insulating the pipes in your basement, the overwhelming answer will be yes, of course you should. However, you may be wondering why you would take the time and expense to wrap them in foam or other material. What are the reasons behind insulating residential pipes and what are the benefits to you? The benefits for pipe insulation come in three basic forms, all of which have the eventual result of saving you money. Insulation reduces heat loss in hot water pipes, helps prevent freezing of water lines, and prevents condensation from forming on the outside. How does this translate into saving you money? Keeping the Hot Water Hot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Home improvement experts estimate that by properly insulating your hot water pipes, you can turn the temperature of your water heater down about 2 to 4 degrees. This translates into a direct savings on your energy bill. Admittedly, most savings are not huge, but they continue year after year. They often recoup the cost of installing the insulation the first year. Keeping the Cold Water From Freezing If you live above the freezing line, then you have probably heard horror stories about water pipes freezing and bursting. This causes hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars worth of damage. Water usually comes from the supply at about 50 degrees Celsius. When it enters your home, it is emerging from the (relatively) warm underground into a below freezing environment. With little to no water movement, that water freezes solid, expands, and breaks out of the pipe. Insulation stops this thermal transfer, keeping your pipes from freezing and saving you the cost of cleanup. Nobody Likes a

The day started out with a cold and groggy morning. The scouts ventured out to find wood to start a fire with, and the adults began to fix breakfast and their morning cup of coffee. After the boys had gathered enough wood for a fire, and the adults had breakfast prepared to be cooked, the scouts constructed a roaring fire for everyone to cook their food over. Breakfast was set to be fish. Since we were without any electronics or cooking devices, we made hobo packs, which consisted of putting all of our food in an aluminum foil wrap and heating it. In the formula, these variables would be Government spending and Investment spending. Private decisions are an individual s decisions on where to spend money. In the formula, this is represented by investment spending and consumption spending. Keynesian Economics relies on that they believe the government can kickstart the economy by spending money when in a down period. Another school of thought is that changes in aggregate demand, whether anticipated or unanticipated, have their greatest short run effects on real output and employment, not on prices. John Maynard Keynes said that everything in life is in the short run. The theory believes that just because something is happening in the short run, may not necessarily mean it will happen in the long run. They also believe that monetary policy effects, output and employment only. The most obvious influence drugs had on music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds , obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug inspired, as Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from Aldous Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of drug use. Even the music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of the music by the Doors. Their song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in the song was probably created with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard while on drugs. This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much more clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of their music is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs. Hearing one of their 30 minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that is the experience that they intended the audience to have. Along with this, he also depicts his messages through different themes such as the lack of freedom. Finally, Eugenides uses different postmodern approaches to his novel in order to stress importance. The Virgin Suicides shows a clear depiction as to how the fictional world in the novel can relate to the nonfictional world. Eugenindes uses two different concepts that prove this connection. One connection is the presence of suicide. Another one is the depletion of the American Dream. Each of these components comes together in order to connect to nonfictional world that we live in. Capstone Project Report Example Capstone Project Report Project Definition: The purpose of this project was to design and construct a robot that would demonstrate the skills we ve learned in our program up until this point. This includes following pin diagrams for components, wiring circuits, soldering, programming, and troubleshooting on both a physical and digital level. To demonstrate those skills, Josh and I decided to create a product that would have the ability to detect and avoid obstacles using an ultra sonic frequency generator. Practical applications: An excellent real world application for this type of program would be in an industrial manufacturing setting. With the rise of automata in manufacturing a microcontroller designed and programmed to actively avoid obstacles is a must. With this technology, technicians and other employees operating in the vicinity of high speed machinery would be much safer, as beforehand, you would need to bring the operation to a halt in order to move into a machines operational area, because there would be a chance that people could be injured or even killed by the machines inability to recognize their presence. The best part about it, is that its already being implemented by some companies. Another great application for a more complex program that is designed around this one is self driving vehicles. However, this practice has been noted to be beneficiary in understanding the character of an employee or student. Going through their profiles would reveal more on their relationships and interactions with other people. This would help organizations get the rightful applicants because an error in this could result in irreparable harm. Even so, as this practice becomes widespread, people would always clean their accounts before interviews to depict the needful and erase the undesired. This way, employers and schools would not gather useful information as the profile would have been customized to impress. Additionally, people could operate Facebook accounts to be used for interviews. Such accounts would contain what would be considered desirable for interviewers. They would have other accounts for normal socialization. Therefore, at the end of it, interviewers who access their Facebook accounts get wrong information on the interviewee. Despite the increased practice of requiring interviewees to provide passwords for their Facebook accounts so as to analyze their profiles, the practice does not meet its goals. It is an infringement into people s privacy thus illegal. More wrong than right information would be retrieved as most people use disguised identities on social media.

Wilkins depicts a woman (Sarah Penn) who is constantly exempt by her husband (Adonriam Penn) in taking part in important decisions until her frustration reached a breaking point, which ultimately leads to drastic changes in their family. In contrast a similar conflict arises in the movie Sleeping With the Enemy (1991), which was directed by Joseph Ruben. In the movie the main character, Laura Burney, had everything her heart desired. Gradually the reader is introduced to Adonriam and Sarah s ambitions, which begin structuring the conflict at hand. Adonriam s goals are obviously work driven due to the fact that he decided to build a barn instead building a better house for his family. Sarah s growing frustration with her lack of influence in decision making ultimately fuels her ambition to go against societies norm, and decides to strip her husband s power. It is evident that Adonriam mentality is that his wife should take on a position of servitude, while he takes charge and makes the decisions. Sarah s presumed role is to be the housewife with little to no power. The conflict is resolved in the last paragraphs where Sarah moves her family into the barn while her husband was gone. Sarah is definitely the winner because once her husband comes back he does not tell her anything about it, and even tearfully says, I ll put up the partitions, an everything you want, mother. There is an absolute shift in power from Adonriam to Sarah in the end, which would also make Adonriam the loser. In Sleeping With the Enemy similar conflicts arise shortly after the movie begins. The movie saturates the viewer around the general conflict regarding the stereotypical gender roles within a marriage. The conflict is clearly evident in the very start of the movie where her husband (Martin Burney) beats his wife (Laura Burney) after he

Cold weather contracts blood vessels. Hence, heart attacks, migraines, and high blood pressure, caused by constriction of blood vessels and insufficient blood flow, can be triggered by cold weather. According to research conducted by the New England Center for Headache, as many as half of all migraines are triggered by weather conditions. This applies for Raynaud s phenomenon where the blood vessels dilate and blood flow is disrupted. Cold weather increases joint stiffness and affects people with arthritis. Arthritis patients believe that the lower the barometric pressure, the greater the pain in the joints. An example is that the residents at the North Shore Hotel note when the barometric pressure goes down, their pain goes up. Their arthritis goes into overdrive before a storm. Nerve fiber coverings break down more easily, causing Multiple sclerosis to happen more frequently in cold weather. For Fibromyalgia Syndrome, a 1981 survey reported that more than 90% of the patients felt worse in cold and humid weather. Changes in barometric pressure affected those with the syndrome. Sinus headaches are caused by barometric pressure as the nasal cavities are not able to adapt quickly to the change in air pressure. Asthma is often caused by high winds as these bring pollen and particles which some have allergies to. In our research, we have also found out that sunlight can be both beneficial and harmful to the human body. The
