What Is Thesis In An Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of defining and understanding the concept of a thesis within
an essay presents a formidable challenge. This task requires delving into the foundational
elements of academic writing, exploring the nuanced role of a thesis statement as the linchpin of
an essay's argument or analysis. To adequately address the topic, one must navigate through
various perspectives, scholarly insights, and practical examples to offer a comprehensive
understanding.
At its core, the difficulty lies in articulating a concise yet thorough explanation of what a thesis
signifies in the context of an essay. It demands clarity of thought, precision in language, and a
deep comprehension of the principles of composition and rhetoric. Moreover, elucidating the
significance of a thesis necessitates grappling with complex ideas such as critical thinking,
logical reasoning, and persuasive communication.
Additionally, the challenge extends beyond mere definition; it involves illustrating the dynamic
function of a thesis in shaping the structure, coherence, and persuasiveness of an essay. This
entails analyzing how a well-crafted thesis guides the direction of the argument, informs the
organization of the essay, and engages readers in a meaningful intellectual discourse.
Furthermore, the difficulty intensifies when considering the diverse array of essay types and
academic disciplines, each with its own conventions and expectations regarding thesis
formulation and execution. Negotiating these diverse contexts requires a nuanced understanding
of disciplinary norms, rhetorical strategies, and audience considerations.
In conclusion, navigating the complexities of elucidating the essence and significance of a thesis
within an essay demands intellectual rigor, analytical acumen, and effective communication
skills. It is a task that requires a careful balance of theoretical insights, practical examples, and
critical reflection. Yet, despite its challenges, unraveling the mysteries of the thesis is a rewarding
endeavor that deepens one's appreciation for the art and craft of academic writing.

Introduction History
The Spanish navigator Vicente YГЎГ±ez PinzГіn was the first known European in
the region now constituting Brazil. Landing near the site of present day Recife on
January 26, 1500, he subsequently drifted northward as far as the mouth of the
Orinoco River. In April 1500, the Portuguesenavigator Pedro ГЃlvares Cabral also
reached the coast of present day Brazil and formally claimed the surrounding region
in the name of Portugal. The territory was named Terra da Vera Cruz(Brazil

Politics (past/present)
In 1961 Janio da Silva Quadros became President. He believed that Brazil had to
trade with all nations and worked to increase trade with communist countries such
as Cuba. Pres. Joao Goulart succeeded him after seven months, when military
leaders feared that Silva would open the doors for a communist take over. In 1964
troops forced Goulart out of office and Gen. Castel Branco took over. Branco was
given many powers by the military including the right to suspend the rights of
citizens and he was succeeded by three other Generals until 1978. During the late
1960 s and early 1970s Brazil s economy flourished after the military banned political
as well as trade union activities (Brazil Government).

Public Sentiment Regarding the Vietnam War
Many of the democrats within the legislative branch turned against Johnson s war.
Scholar s conflict on the reason why Johnson s own party turned against him, some
scholars attribute it to the growing number of antiwar constituents, while other
scholars such as E.M. Schreiber, Burstein and Freudenburg cite the numerous deaths
of American soldiers in combat. One democrat by the name of Eugene McCarthy
labeled the entire Vietnam War as an error and describes the Johnson administration
as misguided. McCarthy decides to run for President, but loses in the primaries by a
slim margin to Johnson, further indicating that the antiwar movement was gaining
significant momentum. Things were only beginning to get even worse as the Tet

In response to the tragedy and the Cambodia invasion, mass rallies were held in
almost every major city in that month. The elite demographic, which includes doctors,
lawyers and other professionals also flooded into Washington to display their
opposition not only to the war but the increasing domestic violence. The incident
dramatically affected Americans and it was further indicated through public opinion
polls, which pointed blame towards the National Guard. To many Americans, the
domestic upheaval following Cambodia and Kent State suggested that the country
was becoming unhinged according to Melvin Small. Newspapers such as the New
York Times suggested that the United States was as divided as it had been since the
Civil War. Individuals that would identify themselves as pro war now felt that the war
s cost in terms of domestic consequence outweighed the benefits of continuing the
war. The White House was now in full damage control following the Kent State
shootings. Public opinion polls showed a 31 percent approval for the war following
the Kent State massacre. In response, White House officials anxiously discussed how
to contain the uproar. According to David Anderson and John Ernst in their book
titled, The War That Never Ends: Student Opposition to the Vietnam War, White
House officials agreed that it was important to avoid steps that would further
Critical Race Theory And Feminist Juurisprudence
Feminist jurisprudence is a complicated legal theory that covers an extensive range
of issues affecting women. Feminist jurisprudence rose to prominence in the 1960
s while critical theory flourished in the late 1980 s and early 1990 s. Both
movements provide a comprehensive and thorough analysis of the relationship that
exists between law, women, and people of minority. Both critical race theory and
feminist jurisprudence highlight how the law is the embodiment of the interests of
the most powerful persons in any society (Culver 211). According to feminists, the
law and legal concepts reflect an exclusively male or patriarchal view of the world.
Two central themes are nearly agreed upon by all feminists. The belief that all male
dominated institutions should be rejected and for effective and rapid reform to be
introduced to amend existing laws and in the ways... Show more content on

They believe and argue that since patriarchy is so pervasive and deeply entrenched in
our societies molding our thoughts and attitudes, our assumptions and our basic
institutions. Some radical feminists, such as Adrienne Rich or Mary O Brien have
focused on the special roles of females as mothers and caregivers, arguing that women
must be relieved from having the sole responsibility or must be in control of them.
Others such as Kate Miller highlight the violence that is perpetuated against women
by focusing on domestic abuse, sexual harassment, rape, pornography, and the
objectification of women. Most radical feminists believe that the construction of
gender by a patriarchal society is responsible for the subjugation of women and
henceforth should be rejected. Consequently some advocate for androgeny, which is
the encompassment of both female and male traits as a treatment for the subjugation
of women. Overall radical feminists advocate the rejection of the constructed
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer Essay
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer Are there many ways that themes and
symbols can be shown in stories? Geoffrey Chaucer uses many different themes,
symbols and styles in writing all of tales in The Canterbury Tales. By using these
things, Geoffrey utilizes several specific symbols to illustrate various central
themes. The characters in the tales make the same mistakes that ordinary people
would make, and they receive the same or even worse consequences. One message
that is portrayed is greed can make people to evil actions. An example of this is in
The Pardoner s Tale, when the three friends wind up killing each other because of
their greed for the money. The second message that is displayed is that one should be

While he is gone the two other friends talk and plot actions to occur when he
returns. The one friend says to the other, You see that we are two, And two are
twice as powerful as one. Now look; when he comes back, get up in fun To have a
wrestle; then, as you attack, I ll up and put my dagger through his back While you
and he are struggling, as in game; Then draw your dagger too and do the same.
Then all this money will be ours to spend, Divided equally of course, dear friend.
(Page 163 line 166 174) By them both agreeing to this, they believe that they will
have more money to split between the two of them by killing the other one. This is
proof that they are greedy because all three of them found the money and each one
deserves their share of the money. Plus they are all friends with eachother and
should be splitting the money, not trying to stab each other in the back in order for
them to get more money. The next example showing how greed can deceive friends
is portrayed when the friend goes into town. As the other two were plotting a plan,
so was the friend that went to town. However, none of them thought that the other
friend would also be plotting kill them. He slyly says to himself, And so the Fiend,
our common enemy, Was given power to put it in his thought That there was always
poison to be bought, And that with poison he could kill his friends. To men in such a

many of children and adults wearing the same look, the look of terror and fear
directed at myself. I begin to feel the matted carpet beneath me and the stiff, school

Dracula Gender Roles
The role of women in Western literature is constantly changing. In the span of less
than a hundred years, it has evolved and changed into a completely different set of
ideals and expectations for a female lead. In the repressed Victorian era of Bram
Stoker s Dracula, women are kept in the roles of the idealized proper womanor
portrayed as sex crazed temptresses. In Italo Calvino s If on a Winter s Night a
Traveler, women are given a more dynamic role one that drives the narrative, as
opposed to reacting to it. There are many key ideas that can be found in both the
novels in how these women affect the storyline and what their roles are. Foremost is
the concept of female sexuality and how it is portrayed in these two books. In this
respect, we come to understand how gender... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Finally, we see the effect the female role has on the male characters and how the
lead women affect the narrative. This paper will explore how the roles of women are
portrayed in these two vastly different novels and how the narrative is affected by
them.
Though sexuality is a popular subject when studying Dracula, it is in fact the lack of
any explicit sexual scenes that makes it stand out. Mina, the main heroine of the
book, is the example of a proper woman; she is industrious, nurturing, and pure.
Though she is engaged to Jonathan for the entirety of the novel, never do they display
any sort of truly intimate moments on page. The sexual content instead comes from
the instances of violence and vampirism. The first such scene comes from Jonathan
Harker s encounter with the vampire sisters in Dracula s castle. Harker writes, There
was a deliberate voluptuousness that was both thrilling and repulsive...I could hear
the churning sound of her tongue as it licked
Reasons for Nora Helmer to Stay in Henrik Ibsen’s A
Doll’s...
In A Doll House Ibsen made a very controversial act, by having Nora leave her
husband and her family. After first reading the play I thought that what Nora did
was the right thing to do. But after thinking about I now realize that wasn t the
right thing to do. Yes, Torvald was not the best husband in the world, but Nora
should have considered that before she married him. To turn your back on your
spouse is one thing, but to turn your back on your children is another. Nora was
around in an era were women were looked down upon, not considered equal to men,
so it would be hard for her to find a job. If Nora were to leave her Torvald she would
have no were to go.

Girls need a women figure to talk to about female things. Not only that but if Nora
left and then later on down the road decided to enter back into the children s lives,
they might have resentment towards her. Another reason why Nora shouldn t
leave her children is because Torvald may one day decide to remarry. She needs to
be more to her children than an empty figurehead. (Thomas cyberessay.com) The
children s new mother might try to take the place of Nora. If she were to succeed,
the children might not remember Nora. But on the other hand maybe she wouldn t
succeed in taking Nora s place, and that would be very hard on the children as well.
Nora was around at a time when women weren t considered equal to men, so it
would be hard for her to get a job, if she could find one at all. The mere fact that Nora
s well intentioned action is considered illegal reflects woman s subordinate position in
society. It can be suggested that woman have power to choose which rules to follow
at home, but not in the business world, thus indicating her subordinateness. (Thomas,
cyberessays.com)
If Nora were to look for a job she would probably hear a sexist remark like, shouldn
t you be at home raising the children. Ibsen saw women s proper role as
motherhood, and motherhood only. (Frank Magil, 1572) It is hard enough in the
new millennium for a women to get a good job to support herself, let alone in 1879,
when this story took
The Robber Bridegroom Short Story
oth The Robber Bridegroom and The Trespasser are revised from its original
versions. The novel of The Robber Bridegroom by Welty is based on the Brothers
Grimm fairy tale. In Campbell s short story The Trespasser draws from the tale of
Goldilocks and The Three Bears which was originated by the Robert Southey. In
each work, there are similarities as well as changes that are made for significant
reasons all related to folklore in which the context changes to better suit the
audience. There are of course simple differences between Grimm and Welty s
portrayals of The Robber Bridegroom. One inconsistency is that Rosamund in
Welty s book is the daughter of a planter and in the other version the daughter of a
miller. Although they are similar in plot as she must marry a rich man; whom she
doesn t know much about then follows him into the woods where she is either
threatened to be killed or kept as a servant. There are more complex changes within
the two Robber Bridegroom stories. In the Grimm version, the bride is seen as a
helpless pawn. They story piles together foreshadowing signs of meetings with the
bridegroom and the annihilation of the body, and the witnessing of the terrible fate
of the substitute bride. There is also a difference in each ending in reference to the
robber s fate. In Grimm s version, the robber is outed by the presence if the finger
from Rosamund s pocket and then executed for his wicked deeds. While in Welty s
version the story ends in marriage, with
The Paintings On The Ceiling Of The Sistine Chapel
One of the most famous painter and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance, the age of
renewal and cultural achievement circa 1500, was the artistic genius Michelangelo
Buonarroti. The man that desired nothing but perfection often reached it in his work.
He captured the motion of the human figure and the anatomy of muscles in a way
that was increasingly beautiful and startlingly realistic. Whether because of one of
the most famous sculptures in history, the David or the paintings on the ceiling of the
Sistine Chapel, that became the textbook examples for the art period of High
Renaissance, Michelango s art changed the world and he will continue to be studied
with awe throughout history.
Michelangelo s era, the Renaissance was not a time of great social or economic
change, only cultural and ideological development because it only affected a small
portion of the population, which were the rich and powerful scholars that had more
surplus money to spend on luxury goods like art and architecture. One of these
families the Medicis rose to prominence and held the position of the Florence s
leading family for three centuries. The Medici family controlled the republican
government and were the unquestioned leaders, Lorenzo the Magnificent the last to
hold power and first Medici to be educated in the humanist tradition and was known
as an important patron of the arts; Lorenzo gave Michelangelo the chance to become
the magnificent artist he was. The humanist movement, one that

Comparing Two Movie Versions Of Romeo And Juliet
In this essay I will be comparing two different movie versions of Romeo and Juliet.
The two films I will be comparing are Romeo and Juliet directed by Carlo Carlei
and Romeo + Juliet directed by Baz Luhrmann. The points that I will be comparing
are the props, setting, and costumes. Within each movie there are good things and
there are bad things and I will be comparing those good and bad things. The props
in the two films of Romeo and Juliet are extremely different which make them a
good point of comparison. Luhrmann s version of Romeo and Juliet is a more
modern take on the play. I think this because they use guns, cars, television and
newspapers. By using guns, it brings a more dramatic and forceful feel to the movie.

The costumes in Luhrmann s film are defiantly more modern and beached themed.
Some of the men/boys in the film wore floral patterned Hawaiian shirts, but most
of them would wear plain black jeans and a tight t shirt with their gun belt. They
also would have their hair slicked back. The women/girls would wear mainly what
girls would wear now. Juliet in particular had some scenes where she was just
wearing a boyfriend tee look and in others she was wearing just a simple sailor
looking outfit. For a lot of the movie it was a ball so both Romeo and Juliet were in
costumes. Romeo was wearing a knight costume. I think that his costume is kind
of playing a tribute to the older more play like costumes that they would have worn
in the plays. Juliet costume was an angel. I think they chose this costume for Juliet
because it represented her innocence and how she was innocent before she went
off with Romeo a boy from the rival family. In Carlei s version of the film the men
/boys wore the jackets and pants with the shirts with the puffy white sleeves and
also they would wear their sword belts with every outfit. Definitely what you would
typically think of from the original play. The women/girls wore the puffy elegant
ball gowns that the little puff on the shoulders. The ball in this version was a
masquerade ball so they were all wearing masks. But the women/girls were still
wearing big, huge ball gowns and the men/boys were still wearing their outfits. I
definitely think that the costumes from both movies were different from each other
but good in their own
Analysis Of The Passage By Dalton Trumbo
ВЁParents act so strong for us, that we often forget just how fragile they are.ВЁ As
we grow we often find ourselves not spending as much of our free time with our
parents as we had when we could barely speak a sentence without having bad
grammar. This maturing state is something all of us experience. We become more
interactive with sports, friends, relationships, and we forget who gave us this
wonderful life. In the following stories of ВЁ The PassageВЁ, ВЁThrough the
TunnelВЁ , and ВЁAmerican HistoryВЁ the author utilizes dialogue to indicate the
disconnection from their parents in the journey to adulthood.
In the story The Passage By Dalton Trumbo, the author portrays coming of age and
the beginning of a new chapter in life through the dialogue between the
protagonist, Joe, and his father. The bond between Joe and his father is exhibited
as very stable and happy. Their bond displays the attachment every adolescent
acquires with their parents; as we learn almost everything basic to life from our
parents. This short story suggests that at one period in time we start to grow out of
adolescence into young adults and begin to detach from our forever known
guardians and heroes. We begin to mature and become more distracted with friends,
school, sports, etc.. Joe, in this short story, depicts this detachment from our parents
as we grow for example in paragraph two: Now he was 15 and Bill Harper was going
to come tomorrow... Tomorrow for the first time in all their trips
Skin Cancer Research Paper
Cancer in many ways is a mystery and this is why my investigation is always up for
questioning and rethinking what could fully cause cancer. Despite this, my research
is based on facts and causes that can be supported by experiments and experts. I have
come to the conclusion that the obvious tobacco and an extended amount of sun
exposure can cause cancer, but also some that surprised me obesity, alcohol abuse,
and environmental factors such as food nutrient availability as well as some types of
foods have been known to cause cancer. My conclusion supports my hypothesis that
the chemicals that we release into the air (cigarette smoke, fossil fuels, etc.) is one of
the major causes of cancer however there is much more where that came from the...

Their are these chemicals called Carcinogens that are often found in food. They
are not in the food naturally, but i thought it was still important to include into my
conclusion since it is something that happens everyday. Carcinogens is a broad
topic considering they are also found in cigarettes, it is surprising that they cold
also be found in our food. However, Carcinogens like Dioxin are caused to be in
your food by the plastic that surrounds some foods and drinks. Preventing this is
pretty simple don t freeze your plastic water bottles as this releases dioxins in the
plastic and don t heat fat containing food in the microwave using plastic containers.
Other Carcinogens such as Aflatoxins are detected occasionally in milk, cheese,
corn, peanuts, cottonseed, nuts, almonds, figs, spices, and a variety of other foods
and feeds this is caused by the feed given to the animals or put into the soil to
improve efficiency. Another thing about food and cancer is; Eating large amounts
of processed meats may increase the risk of colon cancer secondary to nitrates
added to the food. that is why you see nitrate free lunch meat and hot dogs now.
Also, a report from the American Cancer Society stated that the regular consumption
of charred well done meat showed an increase in the risk of pancreatic cancer . This
could also relate back to obesity causing cancer. Overall
Differences Between The Taliban And The Taliban
It all started in 1920 1924 when Al Qaeda supported the Taliban while Nazis were
supported by a lot of germans.During the Third Reich, the Nazis were against a few
writers, artist and so had destroyed all their work as it was degraded. Whilst the
Taliban in the Middle East were focusing on destroying religious monuments. Both of
them had the same perspective, To Liquidate things that did not represent or respect
their faith. The one thing they had in common was ruling others through violence and
intimidation. They were the best at it.
Taliban was an Islamic Fundamental Political movement in Afghanistan. While they
had the power of Afghanistan they had imposed strict laws which were called the
Islamic laws.Taliban mostly consisted of Afghan tribal men. Soon after that Al Qaeda

Breathless Final Scene Essay
Breathless/ГЂ bout de soufflГ© scene analysis The final scene of Jean Luc Goddard
s Breathless (1960) is one of the most memorable scenes of the film. Not only does
it portray the conventions of new wave cinema but it also depicts the existentialist
themes that are presented throughout. New wave cinema was typically low budget
and this is presented in the climactic scene of Breathless. The scene was shot on
location and included a lot of jump cuts and disjointed editing. However, despite
appearing to be unprofessional and unpolished, Breathless evokes a sense of harsh
realism that is present in contemporary relationships. The final scene also symbolises
the end of Michel (Jean Paul Delmondo) and Patricia s (Jean Seberg) ill fated

The majority of Breathless was filmed in Patricia s apartment room or in Paris,
reflecting the low budget of new wave cinema and also the new array of options

location in which they were shooting was not cleared for filming. As Michel is

escape. Every step he takes is monitored, and eyes record movement. In one scene,
Anderton gets on board a train, and looks up to a machine (an eye dent scanner),
which scans his eyes and identifies him. This is when he realises that he will not be
safe in his own city. He decides to take drastic action he decides that he will go and
get his eyes changed.
Sight is a main theme for the film. Anderton cannot escape the Precrime unit with
his own eyes, everywhere he goes he will be identified, so he has to somehow get
new eyes. He goes to a man who replaces his eyes with someone else s and
Anderton is now slightly safer. He is informed that he cannot remove the bandages
that are covering his new eyes for twenty four hours, which poses a problem when
the flat that he is staying in to recover is invaded by spyders (Small mechanical
critters that work in the same way as the machine on the train.). These creatures are
relentless and seek heat. So, Anderton tries to lower his body temperature by filling
a bathtub with water and ice, and he climbs into it. The spyders eventually find him,
and they pull at his bandages, and scan his eyes. He is not identified as Jon Anderton
and so the spyders leave.

Human Conflict And The Four Notions Of Justice
The terrors of human conflict are always depicted through pictures of torn cities,
starving children, helpless adults, the gravely wounded or severely mutilated, and
most of all masses of dead corpses. There is always some sympathy for the civilians
that live under the rule of enemy entities , but they are viewed as collateral damage.
The damage done to their lives is a necessary evil for the greater good . Even more
unfortunate is the impact humanconflict has on wildlife, which is rarely ever the
subject of discussion. Throughout history, wildlife has always been an afterthought
to humanity and when reflecting on the subject of human conflict, it is no different.
From the views raised by the 8 notions of Justice, we can speculate if wildlife would
be granted justice under these perspectives.
When we put human conflict s impact on wildlife into the perspective of the three
ancient notions of justice, wildlife would never be granted full justice, but instead a

In the Daws and ABA President readings, justice is the same as law, which doesn t
not mean much in terms of human conflict (Daws). The laws of one country do not
carry over to another country, so it is never guaranteed that any laws will be
followed. Of course there are international laws, but enforcing them is difficult.
Human conflict can even begin because one country s laws are not granting justice
like they are supposed, but this could be entirely disregarded because certain
countries do not want to be drawn conflict unless they have to. In this case, I do not
believe that justice is granted to wildlife in times of human conflict, unless there is an
extreme circumstance, and even the potential justice may not be realized. I do not
foresee, at least within the close future, a national law that would aid or stop wildlife
from becoming victims of human

Legalizing Marijuana Essay
Legalizing Marijuana
Drugs are a major influential force in our country today. The problem has gotten so
out of hand that many options are being considered to control it or even solve it.
Ending the drug war seems to be a bit impossible. The war on drugs seems to be
accomplishing a lot but this is not true. Different options need to be considered.
Legalization is an option that hasn t gotten a chance but should be given one.
Although many people feel that legalizing marijuana would increase the amount of
use, marijuana should be legalized because it will reduce the great amounts of money
spent on enforcement and it will increase our country s revenue. There are also many

. Forty percent of the people in federal prison are drug law violators (Long 114).
One can only imagine what this figure would be like today. Too much money is
wasted on a cause that seems to be no end to. In 1989, a Republican county
executive of Mercer County N.J. estimated that it would cost him as much as 1
billion dollars to build the jail space needed to house all the hard core drug users in
Trenton alone (Long 128). All of this money could be used on better things.
By lifting the ban on marijuana use and treating it like other drugs such as tobacco
and alcohol, the nation would gain immediate and long term benefits. This change
in the law would greatly improve the quality of life for many people. Victims of
glaucoma and those needing antinausea treatment, for example, would find
marijuana easily available. Also, the cloud of suspicion would disappear, and
doctors could get on with investigating marijuana s medical uses without fear of
controversy. In the essay, Drugs , Vidal states, Nevertheless many drugs are bad for
certain people to take and they should be told why in a sensible way (321 322). It
might become possible to discuss the dangers of marijuana use without getting caught
up in a policy debate..
Meanwhile, the black market would disappear overnight. Some arrangement would
be made to license the production of marijuana cigarettes. Thousands of dealers
would be put out of business, and a secret part of the economy would come
The Necessity At The Heart Of Every Command
The necessity to communicate is at the heart of every command. General Gordon
Sullivan put this in perspective best when he explained: Force XXI will leverage the
capabilities of the latest technologies to optimize the skill and courage of our soldiers.
We will integrate information age technology with our tactical units. We will redesign
units, built around people and new technologies, to enhance their agility, versatility
and lethality. Combatant commanders who rely upon their communication channels
are not able to effectively move vital elements within a combat theatre without the
ability to move information. As the country continues to engage combatants in
countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, the need to effectively communicate
has become ever increasing. Moreover, the requirement to share data within and
amongst theaters is even more imperative as we link actors to one another well
beyond the borders in which we are currently engaged. Program Manager WIN T
(Warrior Information Network Tactical) provides commanders with the ability to
move data across the world and receive real time directions from commanders located
within the Continental United States through internet access. Soldiers, to include
commanders are now able to further untether themselves from their command post
and communicate both on the move or at the halt, further maximizing their time on
the ground. However, progressing to such a point has taken years to accomplish. The
The 2012 London Olympic Games
Introduction
The 2012 London Olympic Games, lasting from 25 July to 12 August 2012, was
one of the largest events ever hosted in the UK. During this world wide sport event,
4 billion people watched the opening ceremonies on television; more than 10,000
athletes from over 200 countries participated; 20 million people visited the city; and
approximately $14 billion were generated (Kubo, 2014).
For London and UK, hosting this mega sport event provide them a great opportunity

this paper will only focus on two aspects: overseas visitor arrivals and spending and
destination image improvement.

efficient communication. The Royal Air Force success stories were because of
efficient communication between the ground troops and guidance from the control

the Second World War. The other important lesson learned is efficient mobility.
Lack of oil during the oil campaign led to the loss of the Luftwaffe air defense of

lesson learned from the air defense forces of the Second World War is the
commanding system adopted by the Army. Luftwaffe adopted a single commander
while the Royal Air Force had three different commanders who played different roles.

inability or unwillingness to send aid can be a tipping point for some to commit
terroristic acts. It also discusses how natural disasters often leave us extremely

part of the stability we have and when something such as a natural disaster alters that

The Shoemaker And The Tea Party Summary
Book Analysis: The Shoemaker and The Tea Party
This book, The Shoemaker and The Tea Party is split into two different sections. The
first part is about the events that happened in Boston through the eyes of George
Robert Twelves Hewes. The second part is written about the Author, Alfred Young,
who asks the question When Did They Start Calling It the Boston Tea Party. This
book is written about the memory that Hewes had of the many events that he
participated in. These events included the Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party,
and the tarring and feathering of people. The recollections of Hewes helped
Americans to realize that we are all equal, and all capable of doing great things to
help our country.
The first section of the book is a recollection of memories that Hewes explained to
two different men, James Hawkes and Benjamin Thatcher. When Hewes finally
explains some of these events he is ninety years old and is trying to recall
memories from many years before. Hewes grew up very poor, and was a
shoemaker but was very humble with the life that he lived. He played a big role in
the destroying of the tea in the Boston Harbor that was later named the Boston Tea
Party . The Boston Tea Party happened because of the large amount of taxes that the
Parliament in England was making the colonies in America pay. One of these taxes
was the tax on tea that was imported to the colonies. The citizens of Boston had
realized that there was going to be a large shipment of tea

is more so than the Galaxy S4, but they have a great deal in common. I assume that
the design of the phone is the fundamental component that will draw the consumer

there is a silver trim that goes around the sides. On the front, there is a 2 megapixel

Development...
Psychosocial Development Theory Erik Erikson postulated eight psychosocial
stages, an innovation to the five stages of development of Dr. Sigmund Freud. Each
of the psychosocial stages are present at birth but only begin to unfold according to
the childrens ecological and cultural upbringing. Each stage is marked by a
psychosocial crisis that needs to be resolved so that the individual can move to the
next stage of development (Heffner, 2014). The developmental task for the
preschoolers in this theory is to achieve a sense of initiative and overcome sense of
guilt. Erikson believed that children in this stage begin to plan activitites, make up
games, and initiative activities with others. In this theory, parents and other care

Piaget believed that children are like little scientists and that they actively try to
explore and make sense of the world around them. He developed a stage theory of
intellectual development that includes four distinct stages: sensorimotor stage,
preoperational stage, concrete operational stage and formal operational stage. In
his stages especially the second stage which is the preoperational, the child rises
above simple sensory experiences. Words can be used as symbolic representations
of objects and events. Children in the preoperational stage can be egocentric. They
cannot distinguish between themselves in the place of others. At this stage, the child
does not seem to be capable of certain logical operations and the child thinks that
more things are alive than an older child or adult would. Further, because the child is
egocentric, there is a tendency to blame oneself for the event (Crain, 2011). With
this, Piaget believed that children learn through pretend play but still struggle with
logic and taking the point of view of other people (Cherry, 2016). Piaget theory and
its concepts is applicable to this study because thru this theory, the researcher was
able to develop play activities which involves cognitive, affective, and psychomotor to

Tolson was an African American writing trying to gain fame during a time when
white males were the only people who were revered, so Tolson was categorized as
a poet, and because of such, his greatest works haven t been realized until just

times during his career. According to the Norton Anthology of Modern and
Contemporary Poetry, its made clear that Eliot later in his life tried to pursue

stereotyped in any way. He was a foreigner because he was living in London,
especially during a time when a world war was occurring, he was labelled a waste

Essay on Dehumanization in Night by Elie Wiesel
Dehumanization in Night
In the novel, Night, Elie Wiesel narrates his experience as a young Jewish boy during
the holocaust. The captured Jews are enslaved in concentration camps, where they
experience the absolute worst forms of torture, abuse, and inhumane treatment. Such
torture has obvious physical effects, but it also induces psychological changes on
those unfortunate enough to experience it. However, these mutations of their
character and morality cannot be accredited to weakness of the Jews spirit, but they
can be attributed to the animal like treatment they receive. They devolve into
primitive people, with savage, animal characteristics that are necessary for survival
under such conditions.

Hitler as being humane. Elie s father then holds a community meeting in his backyard,

They went by, fallen, dragging their packs, dragging their lives, deserting their

The National Security Council is a forum for the president to consider issues of
national security and foreign policy with his national security advisers and senior
cabinet officials. The problem of national security strategy is that it causes many
conflicts and arguments. There are many definitions of concepts of national security.
Traditionally security means, first, as the physical survival of the state, protection
and preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity, the ability to react
adequately to potential and real external threats. The date September 11, 2001 has
changed the way the world began to perceive their own security threats and related to
these threats. As for security and US approach, the White House has released its new
National Security Strategy in 2002 establishing a pattern for eventual war against

argument presented here today will hopefully answer the question Why is it so
difficult to develop and implement a successful national security strategy ? This
paper is an analysis of the strategy plan of national security of the United States
specifically after the attacks of Sept. 11. The National Security Strategy is poor,
especially in relation to national warfare threats. First, the threats are too expansive in

Homeostasis Research Paper
Homeostasis; it refers to the maintenance of a steady state in the body (optimum
level) through hormonal and nervous mechanisms despite the external environment
or fluctuations. It is important as it regulates normal body function. It is required for
biochemical processes which work efficiently within a specific temperature and pH
range and therefore the body must maintain these conditions. Homeostasisworks by
detecting change in environment which is then corrected with the appropriate
response, this is called negative feedback. Negative feedback is the mechanism that
corrects the change in the body. It has three main components in regulation of the
human body; these include a receptor to detect change, and control centre and an

Fahrenheit 451 Essay
The Role of Technology as a Theme in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451
The average person in our society spends 7 8 hours a day(The Washington Post)
using technology; that is stuff like television, video games, surfing the web, etc. Let
that set in; that s a long time. Our society procrastinates also is constantly distracted
by technology like no other. We are practically glued to technology; before we
become slaves of technology we must change that. The theme of technology in
Fahrenheit 451 informs us that the overuse of technology makes people lazy
/procrastinate, that technology will overpower people s lives, and technology
takes away from people s education. Firstly, have you ever had tons of work to do ,
but you put it off because you just have to check facebook because you feel as if
you don t you might just die? Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the first side
effect of overusing technology: laziness/ procrastination. Ray Bradbury knew this was
coming in fact he wrote Fahrenheit 451 in 1953. In Fahrenheit 451 the society
freakishly mirrors ours. The average american spends 2.7 hours a day just watching
television, (Technology Uninhibited) think about all the other things that you could
do in 2.7 hours other than watching television. Sometimes, every other blue moon,
even I procrastinate and my main excuse comes back to technology with questions to
myself. Why don t I watch some funny youtube videos before I
Rahsaan Eldridge s Analysis
For many years, I didn t really know Rahsaan Eldridge. In the same way that I don t
know much about whiskey. Besides the fact that it goes down like fire, or blues,
except the fact that it s something you live through, listen to, or both. I only knew
of him, by way of our mutual friend. Thankfully, over the past few years, we ve
peeled back the layers and became friends, supporting one other s projects and
bonding over our loveof words, music, good food, and laughter. After reading
whiskey blues, I felt...full. It was like a good meal, one that I didn t even realize I
needed. Maybe it was the nearly soul breaking year that I was coming out of that
made me resonate with his words. Whatever it was, I felt his blues was mine.

Abortion Thesis
Rough draft Assignment four
Thesis:
In 1965, illegal abortions made up one sixth of all preganacy and childbirth related
deaths.
Abortion should remain a legalized procedure in the United states of America
because it is one of the safest medical procedures, pregnancy is not always a
responsible choice, and how American Health care prevents women from getting an
abortion. Among these issues it is important to recognize the culture behind the
prochoice movement.
CONCEPT 1 PROLIFE
The controversy of abortion that divides American politics is caused by an
ideological gap between those who prefer religion and those who do not. The sparks
really began to fly when the court case of Roe v. Wadewhere the supreme court

Yung Limited preparing the consolidated statement. A few issues regarding to the

This material error overstated the profit of Yung in 2010 by 10%, but understated the
profit of Yung in 2011 by the same rate. John Au also mentioned that he prefers to
ignore this error because he can get benefit from this error as the understated profit.
Ignoring revenue cut off problem leads to conflicts in ethical and professional. This
conflicts with fundamental ethical principles, such as integrity, objectivity and
professional behavior. In the integrity aspect, we should not disclose any untrue
financial statements. In the objectivity aspect, our professional judgments should not
be influenced by reputation of our audit firm and any potential legal sue. In the
professional behavior, we should comply with relevant laws and regulations relating
to this revenue cut off problem. The following are some of my recommendation on
this revenue cut off problem. The first recommendation would be reporting to the
board of directors directly. This material error should be report the board of directors
of Yung Limited. This report could give directors chance to decide the treatment of
this material error. They could estimate effect of this material error. The second
recommendation would be following John Au s suggestion, ignoring this material
error. This could be a way to accommodate our client. The third recommendation
would be requiring John Au to correct this material error. This could reflect the true
financial position of Yung Limited. The fourth
Renewable And Alternative Energy Policies
When discussing renewable or alternative energy policies, common ideas such as
more solar and wind come to mind foremost without or with little thought when you
hear renewable or alternative energies. However, policies for these can be quite
alarming to someone who does not work or study the field. With Pennsylvania
deregulating their the electricity sector in late 1996, alternative energies were
certainly not the first thing when it came to their minds when trying to reduce their
ever increasing electricity bills. Deregulation brought many ways for Pennsylvania to
reduce costs, with still many more questions to be answered and in 2004, when the
Alternative EnergyPortfolio Standards Act was passed, it was not just up to the

However it is not until 2007 where AEPS s timetable for the next fifteen years for a
progression to hit their desired targets for renewable energies (State Impact). As it
stands, PUC s standards involve roughly an eighteen percent alternative energy
resources by the year 2020 2021 (DSIRE). In that eighteen percent, eight percent
should be comprised of tier one energies, which includes solar, wind, biomass,
anaerobic decomposition, geothermal, ocean, fuel cells powered through renewables,
small hydro, poultry litter incineration facilities, waste to energy facilities
(Energy.Gov) and ten percent to be tier two energy usually, black liquor, blast
furnace gas, distribution generation, hydro, municipal solid waste, other caste, waste
coal, waste heat, wood/wood wastes solids (PUC 2013 Annual Report). Now
standards and compliance are just numbers, and not truly indicative of Pennsylvania s
utility companies can keep up with them. In PUC s 2013 annual report, all standards
are in compliance to their requirements for the 2013 year (PUC 4). That means of the
seventeen qualified generating facilities, each are in compliance to their quarterly
adjustments towards the goal of 18% alternative energies. For those adjustments,
PUC uses the formula:
Non solar PV Tier I % = New Tier I MWh generation/Electric Distribution Companies

Character Analysis of Blanche DuBoise In the play A Streetcar Named Desire,
Tennessee Williams portrays Blanch DuBoise as the character who suffers inner
struggles all through her life. She is a fallen woman in the eyes of society. She
would prefer to live in her own imagination. Her name is befitting for her in that she
acts more as a woman of the night she would rather be out at night or in the dim
lights. She is a southern woman on all counts who lives in Laurel, Mississippi. Her
life has been full of disappointments, death, and sexual propriety. Through her
misfortunes, she becomes more unstable. She wants to create a life within her life
to cope with all the stresses of her reality. Blanche is unable to find an escape from
herself. She finds herself as a victim at the hands of her sister s husband. Blanche
hopes for new beginnings when she leaves Belle Reve from which she has been
evicted. She moves to New Orleans to be with Stella, her sister, and her husband
Stanley. Leonard Berkman pities her and views her as a misunderstood character, a
tragic figure trying to start a new life for herself in New Orleans (34). As much as
she tries, she can never fully gain peace. The name Williams chose for her character
causes some speculations and opposition among critics. There are those who see it as
a name of purity, but others think Williams is trying to play with the critics. Critic

Samsung set aside around US$ 126 million for its design initiatives till 2000. After
that Samsung sent 17 designers to the Art Center College of Design to broaden
their ideas about design. Its determination to excel in design inspired the
government of South Korea to announce the beginning of a Design Era in the
country, in an effort to encourage businesses to recognize the importance of design
and use it as a competitive advantage. Design plays a significant role to add big
value to the Samsung. Earlier most electronics products were expensive and not
within the reach of everyone. Also purchase decisions were based on price,
features, and quality, over time, products like TVs, cameras mobile became cheap
price and within the reach of a people. Quality was no longer a differentiator, and
most brands offered similar products of pricing and features. Most of consumer
electronics companies were those accepted the importance of design, example Sony
assume design is the only thing that differentiates one product from the other in the
marketplace because most of products of our competitors will have same price,
performance and features. Good design allowed Samsung to command a price
premium, For example, its mobile phones had the highest average unit sale price
(US$ 215) in 2002 in their category. It was believed that the company was able to
achieve the goal because its mobile phones featured a combination of technology and
good design. It s trying to connect with its customers by introducing products with
appealing designs. In 2006 Q1 Q2, Samsung was the number one company in terms of
worldwide TV sales. Samsung chairman transform his company from Electronics

Summary Of Ten Questions By Joel M. Charon
The study of sociology is the study of a society and how people behave in these
societies. According to Joel M. Charon in his book Ten Questions, he states that
Sociology is an academic discipline, an attempt to seek knowledge and understanding
through painstaking and critical investigation (Charon 3). In other words, it is an
attempt to become knowledgeable about of different societies and people in those
societies work together. When studying sociology, a person is trying to understand
human society and how humans act and react to certain situations presented to them
in their society. It also seeks to understand how much a person will interact with their
society.
When Charon first discusses society he says, Society is not simply a bunch of
individuals; it constitutes a larger whole, a reality that it is more than the sum of
the individuals who make it up (Charon 5). This means that society does not mean
lots of people in the same place, it is people living together as a community, having
relationships with each other and having a similar or the same culture. A culture
can be defined as a way of life for a group of people within their society. Living in a
place where everyone comes from the same culture does not necessarily mean that
you automatically have a well working society. While culture is very important to a
society, it is important for the people living there to be able to establish relationships
with the people living around them. For a society to thrive, the

South America s Two Liberators Two men, One room, A Spanish Empire is

an empty room towards the back of a narrow building. When they enter the room
silence is all that is left to hear from the outside. No one has ever known exactly

Before the conference was even planned, San Martin wrote to Bolivar, stating that
the two of them must join forces if the struggle for independence was to succeed.
(Simon Bolivar and Sam Martin) After Bolivar had agreed happily, The meeting
was scheduled, and the two of them had failed to meet eyes and agree on how they
wanted to liberate Peru. The flamboyant and self assertive BolГvar stood in sharp
contrast to the reflective and self effacing San MartГn. BolГvar wished to accomplish
the liberation of Peru himself in spite of San MartГn s previous efforts there, and as a
republican, he rejected San MartГn s contention that the disruptive political factions
in Peru would be best contained for the national good by a monarch. There isn t a
record of the Guayaquil conversations, except for a few details that were given in
subsequent correspondence between the two men. Apparently, San MartГn offered to
serve under BolГvar s command, but BolГvar seemed to be unwilling to share the
task of liberation. The result was that San MartГn retired from active service in the
wars of liberation and from the political imbroglio in Peru, and BolГvar s forces
delivered the final blow to the Spanish colonial regime in South America at the Battle
of Ayacucho two years later. What is still unknown from this event is why San Martin

What Are Richard Feyman s Major Accomplishments
Tyler Swanbeck
3/5/17
Physics
Mr. Jennings
Richard Feynman Richard Feynman is heralded as one of the greatest physicists of
all time. This is mainly because of his achievements in the fields of quantum
electrodynamics, and other works while being a theoretical physicist. Feynman was
also able to be recognized as one of the leading figures in the U.S. atomic bomb
program, and received many awards during his lifetime; most famously the Nobel
Prize in 1965.
One of Richard Feynman s most notable achievements was his achievements in
remaking modern day quantum electrodynamics. Quantum electrodynamics is the
theory of interaction between light and matter. Feynman did this by fixing previous
mistake that he found in the overall understanding of the entire theory. The outcome
of his work helped other understand such a complex theory through Feynman
diagrams. These diagrams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was able to contribute to the project with the vast knowledge that he had gained
through his life works. He was able to contribute by determining critical masses
involved with creating the bombs. He also was able to invent the Bethe Feynman
formula that allowed scientists/physicists to calculate implosion efficiency. Also, he
was able to calculate neutron equations that provided the needed knowledge to create
nuclear reactors.
Feynman was also able to become a world renowned teacher. He first started his
career at Cornell as a physics professor. Later, he then became a professor at
Caltech, and his lectures were widely listened to because of his achievements in
the field of physics. Feynman recieved another achievement in the field of physics
called the Oested Medal, but it was now in the field of teaching. This proved that
Feynman was one of, if not, the greatest physicists of all time because he was able to
achieve great feats in both the world of physics as a physicist and as a
Essay on Letters from a Skeptic
Summary: Dr. Gregory Boyd is a professor of theology at Bethel College. He
attended such universities as the University of Minnesota, Yale Divinity School,
and Princeton Theological Seminary. As well as being a professor he is a
preaching pastor at Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has
authored three books and several articles. This particular book is a dialogue
between he and his father, Edward Boyd. Edward lives in Florida and worked for 35
years in sales management. He has six kids, 15 grandchildren, and nine great
grandchildren. Gregory attempted for years to try and convert his father to Christianity
without any success. About the time he felt like giving up on his father, he felt the
Holy Spirit leading him... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the most part I really appreciated Gregory s answers and found them to be very
insightful, as well as theologically correct. I liked his defense of God when Edward
blamed Him for all the evil in the world. I also like how he explained the freedom
that God has chosen to give each of us, and that that very freedom, which was
given so that true love could exist, must also bear with it the possibility of evil.
Gregory said in one of his responses If we have the potential to oppress or slay
millions, it s because we also have the potential to liberate and love millions. I
thought Gregory did an exceptional job of explaining salvation to his father as
well. He gave great evidence that the Bible was, in fact, true and reliable. I,
personally, was very pleased with the apologetic effort of Dr. Boyd.
There were just a couple of things that, I did not necessarily disagree with, but that
definitely challenged my way of thinking. The first is about God s omniscience. In
Terry Bowland s Romans class, while discussing Calvinism, we went over this a
little bit. My understanding of what Dr. Bowland believes (I am sure he would
explain it better) is that God does know the future. He knows everything. Before I
was born He knew the choices I would be making today. He did not predestine me
to make these decisions, but because he is Almighty God, He simply knows the
choices that I will make. That all made sense to me until I

What Is Thesis In An Essay. Writing a thesis

  • 1. What Is Thesis In An Essay Crafting an essay on the intricacies of defining and understanding the concept of a thesis within an essay presents a formidable challenge. This task requires delving into the foundational elements of academic writing, exploring the nuanced role of a thesis statement as the linchpin of an essay's argument or analysis. To adequately address the topic, one must navigate through various perspectives, scholarly insights, and practical examples to offer a comprehensive understanding. At its core, the difficulty lies in articulating a concise yet thorough explanation of what a thesis signifies in the context of an essay. It demands clarity of thought, precision in language, and a deep comprehension of the principles of composition and rhetoric. Moreover, elucidating the significance of a thesis necessitates grappling with complex ideas such as critical thinking, logical reasoning, and persuasive communication. Additionally, the challenge extends beyond mere definition; it involves illustrating the dynamic function of a thesis in shaping the structure, coherence, and persuasiveness of an essay. This entails analyzing how a well-crafted thesis guides the direction of the argument, informs the organization of the essay, and engages readers in a meaningful intellectual discourse. Furthermore, the difficulty intensifies when considering the diverse array of essay types and academic disciplines, each with its own conventions and expectations regarding thesis formulation and execution. Negotiating these diverse contexts requires a nuanced understanding of disciplinary norms, rhetorical strategies, and audience considerations. In conclusion, navigating the complexities of elucidating the essence and significance of a thesis within an essay demands intellectual rigor, analytical acumen, and effective communication skills. It is a task that requires a careful balance of theoretical insights, practical examples, and critical reflection. Yet, despite its challenges, unraveling the mysteries of the thesis is a rewarding endeavor that deepens one's appreciation for the art and craft of academic writing. • 2. Brazil Currency Devaluation Essay examples Introduction History The Spanish navigator Vicente YГЎГ±ez PinzГіn was the first known European in the region now constituting Brazil. Landing near the site of present day Recife on January 26, 1500, he subsequently drifted northward as far as the mouth of the Orinoco River. In April 1500, the Portuguesenavigator Pedro ГЃlvares Cabral also reached the coast of present day Brazil and formally claimed the surrounding region in the name of Portugal. The territory was named Terra da Vera Cruz(Brazil Historical Setting). About a year later in 1501, an expedition under the command of the Italian navigator Amerigo Vespucci was sent to Terra da Vera Cruz by the Portuguese government. He believed that Brazil had to trade with all nations and worked to increase trade with communist countries such as Cuba. Pres. Joao Goulart succeeded him after seven months, when military leaders feared that Silva would open the doors for a communist take over. In 1964 troops forced Goulart out of office and Gen. Castel Branco took over. Branco was given many powers by the military including the right to suspend the rights of citizens and he was succeeded by three other Generals until 1978. During the late 1960 s and early 1970s Brazil s economy flourished after the military banned political as well as trade union activities (Brazil Government). In 1985 military
  • 3. Public Sentiment Regarding the Vietnam War Many of the democrats within the legislative branch turned against Johnson s war. Scholar s conflict on the reason why Johnson s own party turned against him, some scholars attribute it to the growing number of antiwar constituents, while other scholars such as E.M. Schreiber, Burstein and Freudenburg cite the numerous deaths of American soldiers in combat. One democrat by the name of Eugene McCarthy labeled the entire Vietnam War as an error and describes the Johnson administration as misguided. McCarthy decides to run for President, but loses in the primaries by a slim margin to Johnson, further indicating that the antiwar movement was gaining significant momentum. Things were only beginning to get even worse as the Tet Offensive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In response to the tragedy and the Cambodia invasion, mass rallies were held in almost every major city in that month. The elite demographic, which includes doctors, lawyers and other professionals also flooded into Washington to display their opposition not only to the war but the increasing domestic violence. The incident dramatically affected Americans and it was further indicated through public opinion polls, which pointed blame towards the National Guard. To many Americans, the domestic upheaval following Cambodia and Kent State suggested that the country was becoming unhinged according to Melvin Small. Newspapers such as the New York Times suggested that the United States was as divided as it had been since the Civil War. Individuals that would identify themselves as pro war now felt that the war s cost in terms of domestic consequence outweighed the benefits of continuing the war. The White House was now in full damage control following the Kent State shootings. Public opinion polls showed a 31 percent approval for the war following the Kent State massacre. In response, White House officials anxiously discussed how to contain the uproar. According to David Anderson and John Ernst in their book titled, The War That Never Ends: Student Opposition to the Vietnam War, White House officials agreed that it was important to avoid steps that would further
  • 4. Critical Race Theory And Feminist Juurisprudence Feminist jurisprudence is a complicated legal theory that covers an extensive range of issues affecting women. Feminist jurisprudence rose to prominence in the 1960 s while critical theory flourished in the late 1980 s and early 1990 s. Both movements provide a comprehensive and thorough analysis of the relationship that exists between law, women, and people of minority. Both critical race theory and feminist jurisprudence highlight how the law is the embodiment of the interests of the most powerful persons in any society (Culver 211). According to feminists, the law and legal concepts reflect an exclusively male or patriarchal view of the world. Two central themes are nearly agreed upon by all feminists. The belief that all male dominated institutions should be rejected and for effective and rapid reform to be introduced to amend existing laws and in the ways... They believe and argue that since patriarchy is so pervasive and deeply entrenched in our societies molding our thoughts and attitudes, our assumptions and our basic institutions. Some radical feminists, such as Adrienne Rich or Mary O Brien have focused on the special roles of females as mothers and caregivers, arguing that women must be relieved from having the sole responsibility or must be in control of them. Others such as Kate Miller highlight the violence that is perpetuated against women by focusing on domestic abuse, sexual harassment, rape, pornography, and the objectification of women. Most radical feminists believe that the construction of gender by a patriarchal society is responsible for the subjugation of women and henceforth should be rejected. Consequently some advocate for androgeny, which is the encompassment of both female and male traits as a treatment for the subjugation of women. Overall radical feminists advocate the rejection of the constructed
  • 5. The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer Essay The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer Are there many ways that themes and symbols can be shown in stories? Geoffrey Chaucer uses many different themes, symbols and styles in writing all of tales in The Canterbury Tales. By using these things, Geoffrey utilizes several specific symbols to illustrate various central themes. The characters in the tales make the same mistakes that ordinary people would make, and they receive the same or even worse consequences. One message that is portrayed is greed can make people to evil actions. An example of this is in The Pardoner s Tale, when the three friends wind up killing each other because of their greed for the money. The second message that is displayed is that one should be careful when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While he is gone the two other friends talk and plot actions to occur when he returns. The one friend says to the other, You see that we are two, And two are twice as powerful as one. Now look; when he comes back, get up in fun To have a wrestle; then, as you attack, I ll up and put my dagger through his back While you and he are struggling, as in game; Then draw your dagger too and do the same. Then all this money will be ours to spend, Divided equally of course, dear friend. (Page 163 line 166 174) By them both agreeing to this, they believe that they will have more money to split between the two of them by killing the other one. This is proof that they are greedy because all three of them found the money and each one deserves their share of the money. Plus they are all friends with eachother and should be splitting the money, not trying to stab each other in the back in order for them to get more money. The next example showing how greed can deceive friends is portrayed when the friend goes into town. As the other two were plotting a plan, so was the friend that went to town. However, none of them thought that the other friend would also be plotting kill them. He slyly says to himself, And so the Fiend, our common enemy, Was given power to put it in his thought That there was always poison to be bought, And that with poison he could kill his friends. To men in such a state the Devil sends

Audiology Personal Statement Fading in as I slowly regain consciousness, I peek at my surroundings and observe many of children and adults wearing the same look, the look of terror and fear directed at myself. I begin to feel the matted carpet beneath me and the stiff, school lost and found box I am propped up against, as I slowly begin to fade out again. A loud ambulance siren assaults my ears as the seizure finally resolves and I begin to see the interior of the ambulance. Experiencing darkness, illumination and everything in between, this constant feeling of consciousness created holes in my memories, awareness of time, and language delays. I required intensive sessions of speech language therapy during and after school, multiple times a week which was my first introduction to the world of speech and hearing sciences. • 8. Dracula Gender Roles The role of women in Western literature is constantly changing. In the span of less than a hundred years, it has evolved and changed into a completely different set of ideals and expectations for a female lead. In the repressed Victorian era of Bram Stoker s Dracula, women are kept in the roles of the idealized proper womanor portrayed as sex crazed temptresses. In Italo Calvino s If on a Winter s Night a Traveler, women are given a more dynamic role one that drives the narrative, as opposed to reacting to it. There are many key ideas that can be found in both the novels in how these women affect the storyline and what their roles are. Foremost is the concept of female sexuality and how it is portrayed in these two books. In this respect, we come to understand how gender... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, we see the effect the female role has on the male characters and how the lead women affect the narrative. This paper will explore how the roles of women are portrayed in these two vastly different novels and how the narrative is affected by them. Though sexuality is a popular subject when studying Dracula, it is in fact the lack of any explicit sexual scenes that makes it stand out. Mina, the main heroine of the book, is the example of a proper woman; she is industrious, nurturing, and pure. Though she is engaged to Jonathan for the entirety of the novel, never do they display any sort of truly intimate moments on page. The sexual content instead comes from the instances of violence and vampirism. The first such scene comes from Jonathan Harker s encounter with the vampire sisters in Dracula s castle. Harker writes, There was a deliberate voluptuousness that was both thrilling and repulsive...I could hear the churning sound of her tongue as it licked
  • 9. Reasons for Nora Helmer to Stay in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s... In A Doll House Ibsen made a very controversial act, by having Nora leave her husband and her family. After first reading the play I thought that what Nora did was the right thing to do. But after thinking about I now realize that wasn t the right thing to do. Yes, Torvald was not the best husband in the world, but Nora should have considered that before she married him. To turn your back on your spouse is one thing, but to turn your back on your children is another. Nora was around in an era were women were looked down upon, not considered equal to men, so it would be hard for her to find a job. If Nora were to leave her Torvald she would have no were to go. Nora was a doll all of her life, first to her father then to Torvald,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Girls need a women figure to talk to about female things. Not only that but if Nora left and then later on down the road decided to enter back into the children s lives, they might have resentment towards her. Another reason why Nora shouldn t leave her children is because Torvald may one day decide to remarry. She needs to be more to her children than an empty figurehead. (Thomas cyberessay.com) The children s new mother might try to take the place of Nora. If she were to succeed, the children might not remember Nora. But on the other hand maybe she wouldn t succeed in taking Nora s place, and that would be very hard on the children as well. Nora was around at a time when women weren t considered equal to men, so it would be hard for her to get a job, if she could find one at all. The mere fact that Nora s well intentioned action is considered illegal reflects woman s subordinate position in society. It can be suggested that woman have power to choose which rules to follow at home, but not in the business world, thus indicating her subordinateness. (Thomas, cyberessays.com) If Nora were to look for a job she would probably hear a sexist remark like, shouldn t you be at home raising the children. Ibsen saw women s proper role as motherhood, and motherhood only. (Frank Magil, 1572) It is hard enough in the new millennium for a women to get a good job to support herself, let alone in 1879, when this story took

In Campbell s short story The Trespasser draws from the tale of Goldilocks and The Three Bears which was originated by the Robert Southey. In each work, there are similarities as well as changes that are made for significant reasons all related to folklore in which the context changes to better suit the audience. There are of course simple differences between Grimm and Welty s portrayals of The Robber Bridegroom. One inconsistency is that Rosamund in Welty s book is the daughter of a planter and in the other version the daughter of a miller. Although they are similar in plot as she must marry a rich man; whom she doesn t know much about then follows him into the woods where she is either threatened to be killed or kept as a servant. There are more complex changes within the two Robber Bridegroom stories. In the Grimm version, the bride is seen as a helpless pawn. They story piles together foreshadowing signs of meetings with the bridegroom and the annihilation of the body, and the witnessing of the terrible fate of the substitute bride. There is also a difference in each ending in reference to the robber s fate. In Grimm s version, the robber is outed by the presence if the finger from Rosamund s pocket and then executed for his wicked deeds. While in Welty s version the story ends in marriage, with

The Paintings On The Ceiling Of The Sistine Chapel One of the most famous painter and sculptors of the Italian Renaissance, the age of renewal and cultural achievement circa 1500, was the artistic genius Michelangelo Buonarroti. The man that desired nothing but perfection often reached it in his work. He captured the motion of the human figure and the anatomy of muscles in a way that was increasingly beautiful and startlingly realistic. Whether because of one of the most famous sculptures in history, the David or the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, that became the textbook examples for the art period of High Renaissance, Michelango s art changed the world and he will continue to be studied with awe throughout history. Michelangelo s era, the Renaissance was not a time of great social or economic change, only cultural and ideological development because it only affected a small portion of the population, which were the rich and powerful scholars that had more surplus money to spend on luxury goods like art and architecture. One of these families the Medicis rose to prominence and held the position of the Florence s leading family for three centuries. The Medici family controlled the republican government and were the unquestioned leaders, Lorenzo the Magnificent the last to hold power and first Medici to be educated in the humanist tradition and was known as an important patron of the arts; Lorenzo gave Michelangelo the chance to become the magnificent artist he was. • 13. Comparing Two Movie Versions Of Romeo And Juliet In this essay I will be comparing two different movie versions of Romeo and Juliet. The two films I will be comparing are Romeo and Juliet directed by Carlo Carlei and Romeo + Juliet directed by Baz Luhrmann. The points that I will be comparing are the props, setting, and costumes. Within each movie there are good things and there are bad things and I will be comparing those good and bad things. The props in the two films of Romeo and Juliet are extremely different which make them a good point of comparison. Luhrmann s version of Romeo and Juliet is a more modern take on the play. I think this because they use guns, cars, television and newspapers. By using guns, it brings a more dramatic and forceful feel to the movie. It makes every death... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The costumes in Luhrmann s film are defiantly more modern and beached themed. Some of the men/boys in the film wore floral patterned Hawaiian shirts, but most of them would wear plain black jeans and a tight t shirt with their gun belt. They also would have their hair slicked back. The women/girls would wear mainly what girls would wear now. Juliet in particular had some scenes where she was just wearing a boyfriend tee look and in others she was wearing just a simple sailor looking outfit. For a lot of the movie it was a ball so both Romeo and Juliet were in costumes. Romeo was wearing a knight costume. I think that his costume is kind of playing a tribute to the older more play like costumes that they would have worn in the plays. Juliet costume was an angel. I think they chose this costume for Juliet because it represented her innocence and how she was innocent before she went off with Romeo a boy from the rival family. In Carlei s version of the film the men /boys wore the jackets and pants with the shirts with the puffy white sleeves and also they would wear their sword belts with every outfit. Definitely what you would typically think of from the original play. The women/girls wore the puffy elegant ball gowns that the little puff on the shoulders. The ball in this version was a masquerade ball so they were all wearing masks. But the women/girls were still wearing big, huge ball gowns and the men/boys were still wearing their outfits. I definitely think that the costumes from both movies were different from each other but good in their own
  • 14. Analysis Of The Passage By Dalton Trumbo ВЁParents act so strong for us, that we often forget just how fragile they are.ВЁ As we grow we often find ourselves not spending as much of our free time with our parents as we had when we could barely speak a sentence without having bad grammar. This maturing state is something all of us experience. We become more interactive with sports, friends, relationships, and we forget who gave us this wonderful life. In the following stories of ВЁ The PassageВЁ, ВЁThrough the TunnelВЁ , and ВЁAmerican HistoryВЁ the author utilizes dialogue to indicate the disconnection from their parents in the journey to adulthood. In the story The Passage By Dalton Trumbo, the author portrays coming of age and the beginning of a new chapter in life through the dialogue between the protagonist, Joe, and his father. The bond between Joe and his father is exhibited as very stable and happy. Their bond displays the attachment every adolescent acquires with their parents; as we learn almost everything basic to life from our parents. This short story suggests that at one period in time we start to grow out of adolescence into young adults and begin to detach from our forever known guardians and heroes. We begin to mature and become more distracted with friends, school, sports, etc.. Joe, in this short story, depicts this detachment from our parents as we grow for example in paragraph two: Now he was 15 and Bill Harper was going to come tomorrow... Tomorrow for the first time in all their trips

Despite this, my research is based on facts and causes that can be supported by experiments and experts. I have come to the conclusion that the obvious tobacco and an extended amount of sun exposure can cause cancer, but also some that surprised me obesity, alcohol abuse, and environmental factors such as food nutrient availability as well as some types of foods have been known to cause cancer. Carcinogens is a broad topic considering they are also found in cigarettes, it is surprising that they cold also be found in our food. However, Carcinogens like Dioxin are caused to be in your food by the plastic that surrounds some foods and drinks. Preventing this is pretty simple don t freeze your plastic water bottles as this releases dioxins in the plastic and don t heat fat containing food in the microwave using plastic containers. Other Carcinogens such as Aflatoxins are detected occasionally in milk, cheese, corn, peanuts, cottonseed, nuts, almonds, figs, spices, and a variety of other foods and feeds this is caused by the feed given to the animals or put into the soil to improve efficiency. Another thing about food and cancer is; Eating large amounts of processed meats may increase the risk of colon cancer secondary to nitrates added to the food. that is why you see nitrate free lunch meat and hot dogs now. Also, a report from the American Cancer Society stated that the regular consumption of charred well done meat showed an increase in the risk of pancreatic cancer . This could also relate back to obesity causing cancer. Overall

Not only does it portray the conventions of new wave cinema but it also depicts the existentialist themes that are presented throughout. New wave cinema was typically low budget and this is presented in the climactic scene of Breathless. The scene was shot on location and included a lot of jump cuts and disjointed editing. However, despite appearing to be unprofessional and unpolished, Breathless evokes a sense of harsh realism that is present in contemporary relationships. There is always some sympathy for the civilians that live under the rule of enemy entities , but they are viewed as collateral damage. The damage done to their lives is a necessary evil for the greater good . Even more unfortunate is the impact humanconflict has on wildlife, which is rarely ever the subject of discussion. Throughout history, wildlife has always been an afterthought to humanity and when reflecting on the subject of human conflict, it is no different. From the views raised by the 8 notions of Justice, we can speculate if wildlife would be granted justice under these perspectives. Combatant commanders who rely upon their communication channels are not able to effectively move vital elements within a combat theatre without the ability to move information. As the country continues to engage combatants in countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, the need to effectively communicate has become ever increasing. Moreover, the requirement to share data within and amongst theaters is even more imperative as we link actors to one another well beyond the borders in which we are currently engaged. It also discusses how natural disasters often leave us extremely vulnerable. This goes along with the strain theory because it causes large amounts of strain on some. Communities that are impacted by the disaster are under strain as well as those feeling obligated to aid. • 32. The Shoemaker And The Tea Party Summary Book Analysis: The Shoemaker and The Tea Party This book, The Shoemaker and The Tea Party is split into two different sections. The first part is about the events that happened in Boston through the eyes of George Robert Twelves Hewes. The second part is written about the Author, Alfred Young, who asks the question When Did They Start Calling It the Boston Tea Party. This book is written about the memory that Hewes had of the many events that he participated in. These events included the Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party, and the tarring and feathering of people. The recollections of Hewes helped Americans to realize that we are all equal, and all capable of doing great things to help our country. The first section of the book is a recollection of memories that Hewes explained to two different men, James Hawkes and Benjamin Thatcher. When Hewes finally explains some of these events he is ninety years old and is trying to recall memories from many years before. Hewes grew up very poor, and was a shoemaker but was very humble with the life that he lived. He played a big role in the destroying of the tea in the Boston Harbor that was later named the Boston Tea Party . The Boston Tea Party happened because of the large amount of taxes that the Parliament in England was making the colonies in America pay. One of these taxes was the tax on tea that was imported to the colonies. The citizens of Boston had realized that there was going to be a large shipment of tea

Within this generation, the top smartphone manufactures are Apple and Samsung. However, Apple has had the edge for a while, but ever since the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung has soared to the top. I personally admire Samsung over Apple because I own a Samsung Galaxy S4. Teenagers who favor Samsung over Apple are going to have to decide on either the Galaxy S4 or the Note 3. A majority of the people believe that the Note 3 is more so than the Galaxy S4, but they have a great deal in common. I assume that the design of the phone is the fundamental component that will draw the consumer s attention. The Galaxy S4 s dimensions are 5.38 x 2.75 x .31 inches. The S4 materializes in four different colors: black, white, brown, blue, red purple pink, and light pink. From a glimpse, you will notice that it is covered in plastic, which is actually polycarbonate chassis, it incorporates a removable rear cover, and that there is a silver trim that goes around the sides. On the front, there is a 2 megapixel front facing camera and LED notification lights. On the back, there is a 13 megapixel camera, LED flash, and speakers. The Note 3 s dimensions are 5.95 x 2.75 x .33 inches. The Note 3 is obviously larger than the S4, and from a glance, the Note 3 looks outwardly different. The Note 3 was

Psychosocial Development Theory Erik Erikson postulated eight psychosocial stages, an innovation to the five stages of development of Dr. Sigmund Freud. Each of the psychosocial stages are present at birth but only begin to unfold according to the childrens ecological and cultural upbringing. Each stage is marked by a psychosocial crisis that needs to be resolved so that the individual can move to the next stage of development (Heffner, 2014). The developmental task for the preschoolers in this theory is to achieve a sense of initiative and overcome sense of guilt. Erikson believed that children in this stage begin to plan activitites, make up games, and initiative activities with others. In this theory, parents and other care takers take... He developed a stage theory of intellectual development that includes four distinct stages: sensorimotor stage, preoperational stage, concrete operational stage and formal operational stage. In his stages especially the second stage which is the preoperational, the child rises above simple sensory experiences. Words can be used as symbolic representations of objects and events. Children in the preoperational stage can be egocentric. They cannot distinguish between themselves in the place of others. At this stage, the child does not seem to be capable of certain logical operations and the child thinks that more things are alive than an older child or adult would. Further, because the child is egocentric, there is a tendency to blame oneself for the event (Crain, 2011). With this, Piaget believed that children learn through pretend play but still struggle with logic and taking the point of view of other people (Cherry, 2016). Piaget theory and its concepts is applicable to this study because thru this theory, the researcher was able to develop play activities which involves cognitive, affective, and psychomotor to enchance the childrens potential and improve their

According to the Norton Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Poetry, its made clear that Eliot later in his life tried to pursue deracination further , giving credence to the fact that he didn t want to be stereotyped in any way. Such torture has obvious physical effects, but it also induces psychological changes on those unfortunate enough to experience it. Her name is befitting for her in that she acts more as a woman of the night she would rather be out at night or in the dim lights. She wants to create a life within her life to cope with all the stresses of her reality. Blanche is unable to find an escape from herself. She finds herself as a victim at the hands of her sister s husband. Blanche hopes for new beginnings when she leaves Belle Reve from which she has been evicted. • 50. Summary Of Ten Questions By Joel M. Charon The study of sociology is the study of a society and how people behave in these societies. According to Joel M. Charon in his book Ten Questions, he states that Sociology is an academic discipline, an attempt to seek knowledge and understanding through painstaking and critical investigation (Charon 3). In other words, it is an attempt to become knowledgeable about of different societies and people in those societies work together. When studying sociology, a person is trying to understand human society and how humans act and react to certain situations presented to them in their society. It also seeks to understand how much a person will interact with their society. When Charon first discusses society he says, Society is not simply a bunch of individuals; it constitutes a larger whole, a reality that it is more than the sum of the individuals who make it up (Charon 5). This means that society does not mean lots of people in the same place, it is people living together as a community, having relationships with each other and having a similar or the same culture. A culture can be defined as a way of life for a group of people within their society. Living in a place where everyone comes from the same culture does not necessarily mean that you automatically have a well working society. While culture is very important to a society, it is important for the people living there to be able to establish relationships with the people living around them. For a society to thrive, the

Also, he was able to calculate neutron equations that provided the needed knowledge to create nuclear reactors. Feynman was also able to become a world renowned teacher. He first started his career at Cornell as a physics professor. Later, he then became a professor at Caltech, and his lectures were widely listened to because of his achievements in the field of physics. Feynman recieved another achievement in the field of physics called the Oested Medal, but it was now in the field of teaching. This proved that Feynman was one of, if not, the greatest physicists of all time because he was able to achieve great feats in both the world of physics as a physicist and as a
  • 53. Essay on Letters from a Skeptic Summary: Dr. Gregory Boyd is a professor of theology at Bethel College. He attended such universities as the University of Minnesota, Yale Divinity School, and Princeton Theological Seminary. As well as being a professor he is a preaching pastor at Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has authored three books and several articles. This particular book is a dialogue between he and his father, Edward Boyd. Edward lives in Florida and worked for 35 years in sales management. For the most part I really appreciated Gregory s answers and found them to be very insightful, as well as theologically correct. I liked his defense of God when Edward blamed Him for all the evil in the world. I also like how he explained the freedom that God has chosen to give each of us, and that that very freedom, which was given so that true love could exist, must also bear with it the possibility of evil. Gregory said in one of his responses If we have the potential to oppress or slay millions, it s because we also have the potential to liberate and love millions. I thought Gregory did an exceptional job of explaining salvation to his father as well. He gave great evidence that the Bible was, in fact, true and reliable. I, personally, was very pleased with the apologetic effort of Dr. Boyd. There were just a couple of things that, I did not necessarily disagree with, but that definitely challenged my way of thinking. The first is about God s omniscience. In Terry Bowland s Romans class, while discussing Calvinism, we went over this a little bit. My understanding of what Dr. Bowland believes (I am sure he would explain it better) is that God does know the future. He knows everything. Before I was born He knew the choices I would be making today. He did not predestine me to make these decisions, but because he is Almighty God, He simply knows the choices that I will make. That all made sense to me until I
