Splintered Essay On Alice In Wonderland
Published in 2013 by Amulet Paperbacks, Splintered is the first book of the heart warming
Splintered series written by A.G Howard, filled to the brim with heartbreaks, sacrifices, and
betrayals. There are multiple genres in which this book fits in. These genres include Romance,
Adventure, and Fantasy, with some scenes of affection and many more adventures, laced with
difficulties and trials. The protagonist of Splintered is a naive and stubborn teenage girl named
Alyssa Gardner with a strange hobby of using insects for her morbid mosaics and also the daughter
of a father with a mysterious past and a mother in an asylum for attempted murder. And the
antagonist? Well, that s up to you to decide.
Howard bases the book on Alice in Wonderlandby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is told in Alyssa s point of view. Howard has somehow weaved all these fantastically complex
and interesting details into one book perfectly. It fits into most of the things that Alice in
Wonderland introduces but makes the reader think that all of the beauty and the light is mistaken,
for this book is set in a dark and mad landscape with creatures inside of which Tim Burton would
be proud of. In Wonderland, Howard makes Wonderland make no sense. As Morpheus says:
You understand the logic behind the illogical, Alyssa.
Morpheus is stating that there is sense behind nonsense, which is complete and utterly nonsense.
Which sort of makes sense, because it is Wonderland they are talking about, where there is logic
behind the illogical .
Personally, this book is one of the best books I have ever read. I am really into this book and the
way that it jumps off of Alice in Wonderland makes it really enticing, perhaps because I am a
huge fan of Alice in Wonderland. The detail of the setting, the characters, and the emotions make it
very realistic and full of life as if you could almost hear the heartbeat of each of the characters in
the book. This is truly a must read and I highly recommend this

Lead Time Management at Littlefield Labs
Background
Littlefield Laboratories has opened a new blood testing lab. This laboratory uses the same process
as the lab encountered in your prior assignment, Capacity Management at Littlefield Labs neither
the process sequence nor the process time distributions have changed. The lab began operations
with a raw materials inventory of 160 kits and $1,000,000 cash. Customer demand continues to be
random, but the expected daily demand will not change during the lab s life span. Expert advisors
know that demand will end abruptly on Day 268 and the lab will no longer be necessary. Any
remaining machinery or inventory will be useless after Day 268, and thus have no residual value.

Comparing Hinduism And Shintoism
Hinduism, Buddhism, and Shintoism
Both Hinduism and Buddhism originated in India. Hinduism originated first when around 1500
B.C the Indian civilization was overtaken by an invasion of pastoral nomads from around the
Caspian Sea, north of Persia. These nomads continued to invade the region over several hundred
years, conquering and settling among the native people. As a result of the clashes between these
two cultures Hinduism emerged as a result of the fusion of the beliefs that the native people of India
and the new arrivals had. Hindu priests created a caste system to deal with the problems caused by
racial tensions between the new arrivals and the native Indians. The caste system divided the
population into groups in which highest caste were the Hindu priests, who were followed by the
warriors, the farmers and merchants, the servants and laborers, and ultimately the lowest caste were
the war captives and slaves.
The first encounter between Hinduism and Buddhism occurred consequently when Buddhism was
created, since a Hindu prince named Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Buddha or The
enlightened ) created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first conflict in which there was significant violence occurred in the third century B.C. when
the Mauryan emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism and banned animal sacrifices. This action
angered many Hindus who in return persecuted Buddhists after the Mauryan Empire fell. After
these events the relationship between Hindus and Buddhists became very hostile until finally in the
13th century Buddhism became extinct in India, however, Buddhism kept spreading in Asia.
Another more recent conflict between Buddhists and Hindus can be appreciated in Sri Lanka. This
conflict was a civil war between the Sinhalese (which are mostly Buddhist) and the Tamil (which
are mostly Hindus) that started on 1984 and ended in

Minimum Wage Is An Issue That Is Causing Uproar Amongst...

Minimum wage is an issue that is causing uproar amongst working class citizens. For many
workers, a simple increase of 30% in the federal minimum wage could be the difference between
living in or out of poverty. Over the past few decades there have been countless increases in
salaries, although none of those went to people who actually needed it. To this day the rich
continue to get richer, vastly increasing their wealth, while the poor are struggling to provide
basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing. While the rich keep get richer and the poor
continue getting poorer, we have seen a decrease in the middle class; median income has turned
into upper or lower middle class. Establishing legislation that provides workers with a wage that is
able to sustain simple necessities is necessary, it would provide ample support for those who may
not have been able to afford living to take a step away from poverty and move into the middle class.
The minimum wage was set with the passage of The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). Its
initial price point was $0.25 per hour, and it has been raised twenty two times since. It allowed for
federal protections against employers like minimum wage, overtime pay for time worked over a set
number of hours in a workweek, restrictions on the employment of children, and recordkeeping
requirements (uc davis). In that year, the act applied to industries whose

The Shaping Of Our Country
Celeste Munoz
U.S History I to 1876
Mr. William Stowe
28 November 2014 The shaping of our country has been impacted by several different factors, each
contributing to it in their own way. Four of the major pivot points that occurred consists of:
Jeffersonian democracy, Jacksonian democracy, Civil War/Reconstruction, Revolution/Constitution.
However one of them happened to be the most impacting which was the Civil War and
Reconstruction. The American Civil Waroccurred during 1861 to 1865, lasting only five years.
America s bloodiest clash resulting in the death of approximately 620,000 Americans and
millions more were injured. In the spring of 1861, the north and south began to rise into conflict
over issues like states rights. Other conflicts include federal authority, westward expansion and
slavery. When Lincoln was elected president in 1860, seven states seceded from the union and
they formed the confederate states. After the first shots were fired four more states joined the
confederate states. Abraham s election was the rising point to long debate over the federal and
state governments. The war can be viewed in many ways. One as the final violent stages in a
conflict of two regions. Another as the breakdown of the political system of the Democratic Party
and as the max point of several years of social reform. Or also viewed as the main chapter in
America s racial history. The survival of the U.S as one nation was at risk, and the outcome of the
war

Advantages and Disadvantages of switching from U.S.GAAP to IFRS

Charles Center Summer 2009
2 Advantages and Disadvantages of switching from U.S.GAAP to IFRS
In today s business, markets are demanding increasing conformity. Many countries have converted
to and implemented the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) s accounting standards.
The United States, however, still maintains its own Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
Both IASB and FASB have created International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and U.S.
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S.GAAP) respectively. These accounting standards
are rules of measurements for financial statements that companies issuing stock to the public must
provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to more discretion, the differences also affect the numbers the companies choose to
represent themselves. The area of financial liabilities and equity gives rise to differences that
could affect how a firm chooses to raise capital (Hail,54). Reclassification of certain instruments
as equity and debt will affect reported net assets and debt to equity ratios (De Jong, 2006).These
changes will affect firms borrowing activities, debt covenants, ratings, and other contracts
(Hail,54). In the area of consolidation, one of the specific differences is the order of the
inventory. U.S.GAAP uses the Last In First Out (LIFO) method, which assumes that goods
purchased most recently are sold first and that the remaining items have been purchased at earlier
periods (Libby, 2007). Using the LIFO method results in lower gross profit, which allows a
company to be taxed less. Under IFRS, however, the LIFO method is prohibited. Implementing
IFRS would trigger a big tax hike for U.S. companies (Bogoslaw). This would probably diminish a
company s position because of a higher tax burden. Thus, the differences between the standards in
the various areas affect a firm holistically. The switch of numbers effect more than just the financial
report but also the company s financial standing and its bargaining power. The second benefit of the
conversion is cost savings, primarily for multinational companies. Before companies can

Diversity In Magnet Schools
In 1976, federal courts accepted magnet schools as a method of desegregation (Morgan v.
Kerrigan). A benefit that can assist a community for its impact on diversity. Magnet schools are
known for enrolling children from different cultural background. And also it could make a safer
working environment for the students and also at same time the schoolcould provide well
experienced teachers. That can help the students have a better learningexperience. In a way magnet
school can score higher test scores because many magnet schools attract the brightest and best
students. For an example, 74th St. Gifted Magnet (in L.A) scored 90% in math and 91.1% in

Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment Essay
Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment The Tuskegee Syphilis experiment was a study conducted by the
U.S. Public Health Service and the Tuskegee Institute to determine how untreated syphilis affects
African American men. The incident occurred in Macon County, Alabama, from 1932 to 1972 on
the campus of The Tuskegee Institute .The study consisted of a total of 600 African American men;
399 that were previously identified with having syphilis and 201 were uninfected ( USPHS
Syphilis Study 1). Throughout the entire study the men were never told that they had syphilis, only
told that have a condition known as bad blood .

The key aspects of the study did give doctors and scientist an in depth of view of how syphilis
effects the body when untreated. On the other hand, the consequences is that other people, such as
the wives, sexual partners, and unborn children were also infected with the disease and were unable
to obtain proper treatment. Another consequence was uncovered racism in the medical community.
This lead people to believe that the reason the experiment went on so long was because the subjects
were all African American men that wore poor, and some even unable to read. For African
American community, the exposure of this unethical study continued to distrust in the government
and laws. The study did contribute to major changes. For example, public concern about lax
protocols and potential harm motivated the U.S. government to reevaluate standards for federally
supported studies involving human subjects. The changes made included requiring proof of
informed consent by subjects and mandatory review of all proposed studies by groups called
independent review boards. These new standards encourage ethical treatment of subjects, and help
to make certain that people are aware of the potential benefits and risks of participation in research

It has so many advantages. To start with, super kamagra enables lasting erections in men. It is
surely a top quality drug that gives out effects of erection for as long as four hours in men. It,
therefore, enables satisfactory performance by men during sex. The other advantage is that, it is the
finest quality drug. It is approved by FDA for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and premature
ejaculations. In addition, super kamagra improves sexual desires in men. This is because it contains
Sildenafil Citrate and Dapoxetine for mutually curbing the problem of erectile dysfunction and
premature ejaculations.
The greatest advantage with Super Kamagra is that it is a dual mechanism drug. This means it not
only treats erectile dysfunction but also curbs the complication of premature ejaculations in men.

Leadership Styles And Leadership Style
Stacey Feiner once stated, For those of you who really want to give critical thought to your unique
leadership style and foster genuine followership, learn from what s out there and weave it into
something meaningful and authentic. (Feiner, 2015) For the last two weeks, I have spent time self
analyzing and soul searching to identify the qualities I bring to a leadershiprole. Many of the core
values important to me also align between the participative leadership style and laissez faire
leadership style. These values include working in a team environment, empowering others to
make decisions and providing support for those decisions, keeping an open mind to new ideas
/suggestions, and being involved with my team members on a daily basis. (Mooney, n.d.) As I
learn ways to build on my strengths within these leadership styles, I also need to improve upon my
weaknesses to become the well rounded leader I want to be.
Larry Page, CEO of Google, is a leader who I would like to emulate. He also shares the
participative/laissez faire leadership style. Mr. Page believes employees should be empowered to
dream the impossible. He encourages out of the box thinking from his employees and encourages
them to create the next new product innovation. To successfully lead Google, Mr. Page expects his
employees to be productive and results oriented while being self managed. He does not believe
employees should be micromanaged. In addition, he considers it important to help employees

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World
Annotations for: The Statue of Liberty:
1. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World : was a gift of friendship from the people of
France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.
2. Treaty of Peace at Versailles : refers to The Peace of Paris (1783), a set of treaties which ended
the American Revolutionary War. In September 1783, King George III of Great Britain signed a
treaty in Paris with the United States known as the Treaty of Paris (1783) and two treaties at
Versailles with King Louis XVI of France and King Charles III of Spain known as the Treaties of
Versailles (1783).
3. Lafayette: During the American Revolution, French military man Marquis de La Fayette served
under George Washington as a Major General in the Continental Army.
The first article that I examined from Harper s Weekly was titled The Statue of Liberty. The
Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. In the early 1880s,
French citizens raised money to present to the United States Liberty Enlightening the World, the
immense sculpture by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi . (Edwards 90.) It is important to note that gift
was not from the French government. It was a gesture of friendship from its citizens and I feel
symbolized the stature, in France s eyes, that America had achieved in the world during the Gilded
Age. The Harper s article discusses the dedication on October 28, 1886 of the statue of Liberty

Why Is The Nurse Important In Romeo And Juliet
1 Romeo and Juliet From William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet is the most famous love story in
the English literary tradition. The most important theme is love, specifically, love at first sight
between Romeo and Juliet. I chose to write about the Nurse because she is the personal servant,
guardian and former wet nurse of Juliet Capulet, and has been with Juliet since she was born. This
character played a strong part in allowing Romeo and Juliet s relationship to grow and their
passion to become stronger because she sends the letters to Romeo and helped them arrange their
secret marriage. She also affected the tragic ending because she did not intervene when Juliet was to
marry Paris. Because of the fight between the Capulets and the Montagues,... Show more content on

gives Juliet the tragic news about Romeo s banishment. Atthe same time, Lord Capulet decides it
is time for Juliet to marry Paris. Rather than supporting and understanding that Juliet doesn t want

Specificity
Specificity: There are general or global demands that all human beings need to have general
strength and power, good posture, core stability, mobility, and stability at all of the major joints.
These components are all requirements for a healthy and functional body, especially in an
athletic environment. All human beings squat as every single day activity. Picking up a box?
Getting up or sitting down? Starting your lawn mower? That is a single arm row, using both
back and core muscles to generate rotational power. Carrying groceries in from the car? That is a
farmer s walk, which places a huge demand on the core and upper back (Wilmore Costill 2005).
The concept of Specificity simply states that training bouts must go from highly general training
sessions to highly specific training sessions. The concept of Specificity also implies that athlete
become better at a particular and specific exercise or skill, athlete must perform that highly specific
exercise or skill (verywell).
The training sessions must be specific not only to athlete s sport/skills but to athlete s individual
abilities (recoverability, tolerance to training stress, outside obligations, etc) (fitstar).
Specificity also means that to become better at a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Essay on The Duality of Light and Matter
In school you learned about the atom as though the electrons were particles. But what if you
were taught wrong? What if matter is in reality a wave? This is the question raised by Lois de
Broglie and is the focus of this essay. First we will cover the difference between particles and
waves. Then we will cover the origin of this debate, the duality of lightand the double slit
experiment. Then we will look at the man behind this unorthodox idea, what his scientific
background is and his reasons for suggesting this unorthodox idea. Finally we will examine the
data behind this experiment and see if it stands up or not. What are the main differences behind a
wave and the particle? A particle has locality, this means it can be in only one... Show more content

In the photoelectric effect light was transmitted onto a metal surface, with certain conditions the
light could knock off electrons, its behavior could only be explained by considering light as a
particle aka a photon. In Compton scattering the radiation of high frequency waves off of
electrons could only be explained by considering the radiation in terms of quantified particles.
So is light a wave or a particle? Throughout the years the debate has gone back and forth and back
and forth. In the 19th century Leon Foucault Established that light moves slower in water than
in air which is in favor of wave theory in the same century Maxwell proved that light was an
electromagnetic wave. But in the 20th century Max Planck discovers that light is quantified and
not continuous and Albert Einstein reestablishes particle theory with his mathematical proof of
the photoelectric effect. Interestingly a good example of the ongoing struggle is the fact that J.
J. Thompson got the Nobel Prize in 1906 for proving that electrons were particles, but his son
received the prize in 1937 for proving electrons to be waves. Of course if scientists were
questioning the properties of light why not matter as well? Enter in our main character Prince
Louis Victor de Broglie. Prince Louis Victor de Broglie was born in Dieppe on the fifteenth of
August in the year 1892. He graduated from the LycГ©e Janson of Sailly in

Exploration Of Good And Evil In Rashomon
On one level Rashomon, by director Akira Kurosawa, is a classic whodunnit, a tale of rape,
murder, deceit and redemption. How was the samurai warrior killed and his wife violated in lonely
woodlands at a time of dissonance in medieval Japan? Suspects emerge and an inquisition is held.
But why do all players profess their guilt, rather than protest their innocence? Kurosawa has taken
two stories (the 1950 filmis loosely based on the works of writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa) and
created a multifaceted masterpiece peppered with shifts and contrasts. He delves into aggression
and accountability to explore the collective Japanese consciousness after World War Two. He
considers the meaning of truth and the judging of others. In doing so, Kurosawa... Show more

Kurosawa unsettles at the outset with rain and gloom, then employs a series of rapid cuts to draw
his viewer into the heart of the moral dilemma. His is a radical experimentation with narrative
marked by dislocation and incompleteness (Goodwin, page 114). Kurosawa himself wrote: These
strange impulses of the human heart would be exposed through the use of an elaborately fashioned
play of light and dark (Akira Kurosawa, Something Like an Autobiography, p 182). It would be a
keynote for the entire film (Akira Kurosawa, Interviews, edited by Bert Cardullo, p. 176). That
keynote is struck as the woodcutter recalls the crime. Flashbacks were an unconventional way of
constructing a storyline, and Kurosawa s create a complex intertextual relationship. The woodcutter
strides into thicket, through full light, dappled light and shade, in an evolving montage of surety,
uncertainty and disquiet. The scene plays with long shots, pans, close ups and takes in high angles
and laterals. The segment is still analysed today for its technical and visual brilliance (Martinez, p
31). The shooting script for Rashomon was littered with directions to create a sense of motion, to
pan, to dolly in and out, notes cinema expert Donald Richie (The Films of Akira Kurosawa,
Donald Richie, pages 77, 78). It is here that Kurosawa and cameraman Kazuo Miyagawa break one
of cinematography s taboos shooting directly into the sun. With craft

Six pack of beer in a cardboard container will be processed on scene. The cardboard will be
processed via the chemical method of ninhydrin just as the previous evidence. The six bottles
will individually be processed with a white powder or cyanoacrylate fuming method and placed
into separate brown evidence bags or boxes securely without movement. I personally would
utilize the cyanoacrylate fuming method (superglue fuming) for better results. Initially, you
would have to make or have a fuming chamber. The chamber could be made with a box, all it
needs to be airtight. One the box is built; you will need a small heater, cyanoacrylate glue, small
metal tray, and small tray of water. When the items are available, you place the warming tray in
the box with the small metal tray on top of the warming tray. The small container of water will
be directly next to the warming tray. When this is set up place the bottle in the box on the
opposite side of the warming tray, then put the superglue into the metal tray, turn on the warming
plate and seal the box. Wait 15minutes and open the box and remove the beer bottle to
photograph the prints. Always make sure that you are in a well ventilated area because the fumes
are toxic and could harm a person. Evidence of the bullet embedded into the wall behind the
counter is actually a fixed or non moveable item. The investigator will not dig the bullet out at any
time. We will cut a portion of the wall around the bullet and send to the lab for further ballistic,
touch DNA and possible fingerprinting. Touch DNA would be collected with a buccal swab as

CHAPTER 10 MINOR INTERNATIONAL PART 1 a. The software consultant is a sunk cost.
The consultant is being hired to assist with the decision as to whether to invest in either project or
not. This cost will be incurred before the decision for either project is made and is not incremental
to either project. Consequently, it is considered a sunk cost. In addition, the inter company charge
for the computer time is not an incremental cash flow to the firm. Consequently, it is really an
internal allocation and should not be considered in the valuation of either project. Alternative A

Guilt vs. Innocence, Allegories, Puritanism in Nathaniel...
Sabrina Bullock Professor Erin Whitford American Literature I (409) 18 August 2013 (SumII)
Grade: 88 Guilt vs. Innocence, Allegories, Puritanism in Nathaniel Hawthorne Nathaniel
Hawthorne was a nineteenth century American writer that was born in Massachusetts with a
Puritan Heritage. Born in Massachusetts on the Fourth of July, 1804, he was the descendant of
Puritan worthies and the son of a ship s captain who died at sea in 1808 (Gollin). Allegories are
portrayed in his writings to depict a vivid outlook of his moral themes. Many of his works
describe the human conscience and how it deals with guilt. Hawthorne s works describe his
contemplation on sin and guilt. He believed it had an effect on one s social behavior, as well... Show

As Georgiana drinks the potion it puts her into a deep sleep, but later on when her husband is
shouting at the heavens for his created perfection, it awakens her from her slumber. As she rises
up, to look in the mirror to notice the flaw has been demolished, she turns to Aylmer, You have
aimed loftily! you have done nobly! Do not repent, that, with so high and pure a feeling, you
have rejected the best that earth could offer. Aylmer dearest Aylmer I am dying
(Bayum,etc.Pg.429)! Georgiana s death is an allegory of guilt and innocence because her
husband was ugly on the inside and he picked at her because her flaw was on the outside only to
be more noticed. Aylmer failed to see his wife s purity and innocence because he could not look
past her birthmark. She died because the beauty in earth and humans is our imperfections.
Georgiana could not survived on earth because perfection could not exist here. It portrays how
human nature is to point out others flaws so that they are not looked upon for theirs. Georgiana
was the closest thing to perfect and Aylmer was incapable of accepting it, as he was bitter about
not being able to create a perfect world or woman and his obsession killed her. In Rappaccini s
Daughter Hawthorne wrote a story much like The Birthmark. It is based around a beautiful young
woman named Beatrice who was as pure at heart, but in the end was destroyed by someone trying

Abstract
Which stages of the project life cycle are evident in the case study?
Did Martens select the right two project managers in Patil and Wright?
What are toughest challenges faced by the project manger during a high visability and high risk
project?
Would you like to have been involved with the Ford Escape Hybrid project?
Paper # 2: Ford Hybrid
The Ford Escape Hybrid program was the midterm step of the company s steps of sustainability.
The program was included in the company s long term plans for more than two decades. The
program in the past decade accelerated rapidly due to increased pressure from recently enhanced

Hybrid Project personnel Decisions The task of managing a project of the magnitude Martens was
assigned could either fail, succeed. The scope of the job contains extremely complex engineering
feats combined with a rigid timeline. The only path for success was to find a project manager well
versed in both aspects of the project. Instead Martens decided to split the responsibilities of the
project with two managers with different experience and subject matter expert qualities. Patil was
brought his PhD scientific experience to the table. While Wright brought the can do spark plug
approach to the project. The two will be instrumental in the projects outcome (Salter 2004).
Challenges
This type of project required an organized approach to working out side of the normal confines of
Ford s production models. The bench mark for success is not in comparison to other previous
projects. Large scale engineering designs had been implemented in the past, but never a machine
with dual means of propulsion. The company had already announced release of the Hybrid and the
whole world was waiting to see the outcome (Tierney 2005).
Member of the TeamHaving the opportunity to be part of a team steeped in innovative engineering
tradition would be an honor for anyone in the automotive production industry. The overall project
requires more than just strong management, designers, and engineers. The entire project requires

Dbq Similarities Between Samurai And Knights
There are many similarities between the samurai of medieval Japan and the knights of medieval
Europe, especially considering their training, armor, and code. For example, Document A and B

loyalty, and finally they both got raked up when they were fourteen years old, but the knights

horse skills when they were younger and how to ride a horse and pony at a young

Analysis Of Tick Tock By Brian Eno
Tick Tock is an ambient piece of music that was made as a direct influence of Brian Eno s four
part ambient series of albums. 2/1 in particularly from Music for Airports is a reference for the
aesthetics of the sound design in the song which has a lot of darkened textures and is almost
lullaby esque in nature. A lot of randomness is often found within the ambient genre as a piece is
meant to demonstrate an ever evolving state. This is hard to express in a one minute piece
however, so a constant tempo was decided upon for the piece. To introduce some kind of
randomness into it, the vocal part begins playing on different beats through out the evolution of the
music. Minimalist music had a massive influence of Eno s music and I also wanted to take the
aesthetics of that genre and try to apply it into my music. As a result of this, only using the three
selected sounds allowed me to avoid overcrowding the piece which isn t meant to be imposing in
nature i.e. background music.
The sound is derived from a vocal part saying tick tock and heavily laden with a clear long hall
reverb to give a huge depth to the voice. A slight delay on the voice is introduced halfway through
the piece to represent the ever evolving state in ambient music. The piano sound is a grand piano
mixed with a long hall reverb with a soft attack and medium long release to produce a dream like
characteristic as well as provide a deeper spacial texture to the soundscape. The third sound was a
string sound that

The development of digital integrated circuits is...
The development of digital integrated circuits is challenged by higher power consumption. The
combination of higher clock speed, greater functional integration and smaller process geometries
has marked their contribution to significant growth in power density. Scaling improvises the
transistor in 65nm and below density and functionality on a chip. It helps to increase speed and
frequency operation, hence giving a higher performance. As voltage scales downward with
geometries, threshold voltages must also decrease to gain the performance advantages of the new
technology but leakage technology increases exponentially. Thinner gate oxides have led to an
increase in gate leakage current. Today, leakage power has become an increasingly... Show more

Also, the dynamic range is degraded by these strict limitations. Upwards, the dynamic range is
lowered due to the reduced signal headroom as a result of reduced supply voltage. Downwards, the
dynamic range is limited by larger noise voltages due to curtailed supply currents. The only way to
make the operational amplifier survive the trend towards lower supply voltages without
weakening its characteristics, is by developing very efficient operational amplifier topologies
that combine low voltage and low power operation and be as simple as possible to save die area,
in its contemporary sense. In this thesis, we design and analyses different design approach of
operational amplifier circuits using power gating technique and MTCMOS leakage reduction
techniques. Both these techniques are very effective for reducing leakage power and group delay,
increasing gain margin in electronic devices. Here, power gating technique is used to reduce
leakage power, group delay and increase gain and phase margin.
We reduce the leakage current in stand mode and ground bounce noise in sleep to active mode
transition. In MTCMOS technique, high VTH devices are used on non critical paths to reduce
static leakage power without incurring delay penalty. If we reduce the leakage current and delay,
ground bounce noise of circuit will increase circuit reliability. On the other hand, when a power
gating technique works in standby mode, the switch transistor is turned OFF, which disconnects the

HIV In Haiti
Haiti is one of the regions with the highest HIV infection rate, especially in Caribbean. About 3% of
adults are infected. The reason for that are poverty, sexual partners, gender, and almost non existing
health care.
The epidemic started in late 70s due to prostitution, blood transfusion and unprotected sex. Around
the same time the epidemic was discovered in the USA, and the virus was found in Haitians
immigrants. Because of that Haiti become one of the risk factors for HIV. The stigma brought
disastrous consequences to the whole country, including the collapse of tourism.
At the beginning, the disease was associated with male homosexual behavior, but the virus spread
quickly to the heterosexual population. Now women are more likely to get infected than man
because of their lower position in society. Rape, unprotected sex and prostitution increase their
chances of HIV. Most of the pregnant women with HIV gave it to their children. Now a lot of
efforts are taken to prevent it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

help, mostly basic education about AIDS/HIV prevention.
There is a significant drop in percentage of people with HIV in Haiti, but there s still a lot of work

Let s take a look at the conversation below between a mother and her son to illustrate the impact
of texting and abbreviation in our interpretation. Mother: What does IDK mean? Son: I don t
know. Mother: Never mind, I ll ask your sister. Her son gave the correct answer to her question,
but she thought that he didn t know the answer and wanted to ask his sister instead. This is an
example of an abbreviation that might lead to confusion and misunderstanding in our
conversations. Tweeters and texters try to refine sentences into a few characters, and this results
in excessive use of abbreviations which makes it inevitable to miss some important information.
Using initials of a word or totally different characters to form a shorthand acronym is unreliable
and confusing. David Crystal wrote in his article that No texter is entirely consistent and no two
texters use identical conventions (245). Someone who text CYA (see you) in a text message will
most likely pronounce it the same way as his text, making it an unclear and unpleasant phrase for
the listener. Critics say abbreviations save us time, and there is no connection between how we
tweet and how we speak. I have been in many situations where I have to search for the meaning of
an abbreviation in a text message. An abbreviation doesn t necessarily save you time. To the
contrary, the ambiguous nature of an abbreviation

Research Paper On Quantum Entanglement
Quantum Entanglement Quantum entanglement, also known as spooky action at a distance as
first referred to by Einstein, is a phenomenon which occurs when two or more particles interact in
such a way that their physical states can be described as one whole system rather than as each
particle separately. The particles spin in opposite directions to each other and, no matter how far
away each particle is from the other, if one particle changes its spin the other particle/s will
instantaneously change their spin too in the exact opposite direction. You can, therefore, determine
the physical state of each particle just by examining the state of one particle. History: In 1935,

Twentieth Century America
Faderman takes a decidedly social constructionist analysis as she examines lesbian life in Twentieth
Century America, arguing from the start that its definition has less to do with innate same sex
attraction than with external sociopolitical influences. It is apparent that in the debate between the
essentialist lesbians and existentially lesbians she offers no apologies (and plenty of reasons) in
siding with the latter. Not only does she explore how the sub culture continually responds to
external pressures such as conservative politics and institutional biases but deeply analyzes how
then the community expands and contracts to its marginalization and oppression. For instance, she
describes numerous times (such as the butch/femme role enactment and the demand for a regulated
sexual intercourse between women in the 1970 s) when the lesbian community and corresponding
social movement enacts various border patrolling and internal policing to maintain its strict identity
as women to keep the pressure and agents of the patriarchy outside. It is this policing and its
motives I find so applicable to my work. The lesbian community has undergone many tribulations as

Compare And Contrast The Knight And The Canterbury Tales
Although the Knight and the Squire both possess the same occupation, they exhibit disparate
approaches in relation to devotion. In regard of battles, it was the main point in the Knight s
description, whereas in the Squire s, was barely a significant component. All of the Squire s
involvement amidst the militaryis very shortly revealed saying that he had seen some service with

the focus in his description. The Knight traveled along the Mediterranean coast (Chaucer 61) to
multiple regions including Russia, North Africa, Anatolia, etc. and also fought in fifteen mortal
battles (Chaucer 63) and always killed his men (Chaucer 65) showing evidence of his devotion to
his profession. This is the opposite of the Squires distracted attitude as shown in the text when it
says, He could make songs and poems and recite, /Knew how to joust and dance, to draw and
write (Chaucer 97 98). The Squire s focus is fixated on his own entertainment instead of this
profession, displaying how he is not as dedicated to his work compared to his father. Chaucer s
countless descriptions about battles in the Knight s description shows how the Knight is chivalrous
and dedicated, willing to fight solitarily in a moments notice, while in the Squire is more focused
on himself than battles, showing how they both exhibit disparate approaches in relation to devotion

Benefits Of Lucid Dreaming
All You Need to Know About Lucid Dreaming
Chapter 1: Overview of Lucid Dreams
Dreams have played a very crucial role to cultures through the years. The aborigines have believed
that the stories of the world very start as the realization of their dreaming. Native Americans have
believed that their dreams are doorways to the spiritual world, ways to quests and prophecies.
The concept of lucid dreaming is not something new either. Aristotle is considered to be the first
one to write about lucid dreaming; however, he did not coin a term for it. Certain Tibetan
Buddhists have been practicing dream yoga for a long time, which is something similar to lucid
dreaming.
The ultimate goal of dream yoga is to examine your consciousness and give you to a state of
constant awareness. Bulk of the principles governing the Buddhist belief is to be familiar with the
world for what it is, without illusion. A lucid dreamer is familiarized with the dream world for
what it is a dream. As you dream, you go with the flow of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

adopted as key text for the imperial examinations which meant that most of the educated men of
that period would have a high of understanding of his thought. [11]One of Zhu Xi s most famous
books was the book family rituals where he offered advice on many rituals including how to
conduct weddings, funerals, family ceremonies, and the veneration of ancestors.[12] Zhu Xi was
also known for implementing Buddhist thought into his philosophy. He argued for a Buddhist sense
of high moral and also argued that one should engage in both academic and philosophical
pursuits.[13]
The other branch of neo Confucianism advocated by Wang Yang Ming was known as the school of
mind which was founded by Ch eng Hao (1032 1085). [14] Although this school of thought also
believed that the material world was built from a single immaterial principle, the difference was that
this principle existed solely in the human mind. Wang Yang Ming believed that the principle of the
universe is equivalent to the human mind and that the practice of humanity, referred to as jen
unifies man with the universe. Wang Yang Ming expanded on this saying that innate knowledge
can manifest the original mind that is equivalent to the universe.[15] The innate knowledge, in his
opinion, represented the

Comparing Max Bohm s Painting The Happy Mother And Child
Both the painting featured above have a common theme of Motherhood. They both picture a
smiling mother holding their child to their chest. The painting on the left is called The Happy
Mother; it was created by Max Bohm in 1913, and is currently located at the Smithsonian
American Art Museum. The Painting on the right is Mother and Child, and was made by Werner
Drewes at an unknown date and is also located in the Smithsonian American Art Museum. In
terms of line and shape, color, texture and pattern, and unity and variety, Bohm s paint is much
more pleasing to the eye than Drewes piece. Max Bohm was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1868, but
spent much of his life living overseas in Europe. He studied AcadГ©mie Julian in Paris and later
won a gold medal from the Paris Salon for one of his paintings in 1898. He later taught at school in
London until he returned to the States in 1911. He now has paintings in many museums, including
the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, and the Luxembourg Gallery. Max Bohm

Cuzco History
The City of Cuzco was a complex urban center with distinct religious and administrative functions.
It was surrounded by clearly defined areas for agricultural, artisan, and industrial production.
Besides the religious and government buildings, there were also exclusive abodes for royal
families, which formed an unprecedented symbolic urban compound. This compound showed a
stone construction technology with remarkable aesthetic and structural properties, such as the
Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha. Cuzco was the capital of the Tawantinsuyu Inca Empire, which
covered much of the South American Andes between the 15th and 16th centuries AD. It was
abandoned by the Incas when the Spaniards conquered it in the 16th century. Effigy mounds are

the well known cliff dwellings. Approximately 600 cliff dwellings built of sandstone and mud
mortar have been recorded within Mesa Verde National Park, such as the famous multi storey
Cliff Palace, Balcony House, and Square Tower House, and 4,300 other archaeological sites
have been discovered. The cliff dwelling sites range in size from small storage structures to
large villages of 50 to 200 rooms. Many other archaeological sites, like pit house settlements and
masonry walled villages of varying size and complexity, are distributed over the mesas. Non
habitation sites include farming terraces and check dams, field houses, reservoirs and ditches,
shrines and ceremonial features, as well as rock art. Mesa Verde style kivas included a feature
from earlier times called a sipapu, which is a hole dug in the north of the chamber and symbolizes
the Ancestral Puebloan s place of emergence from the underworld. Also, starting during the late
Pueblo II period (1020) and continuing through Pueblo III (1300), the Ancestral Puebloans of the
Mesa Verde region created plaster murals in their houses, particularly in their kivas. The murals
depicted both painted and inscribed images depicting animals, people, and designs used in textiles
and pottery. Others depicted triangles and mounds thought to represent mountains and hills in the
surrounding landscape. Geometric patterns that resemble symbols used in pottery and zigzag that
represent stitches used in basket making are common motifs.Mesa Verde provides an important
link between past and present ways of life of the Puebloan Peoples of the American Southwest.

Ash Lawn-Highland Research Paper
Ash Lawn Highland is the home of James Monroe, fifth President of the United States, and its
located on the outskirts of Charlottesville in Albemarle, Virginia. Originally, owned by Champe
Carter, Ash Lawn Highland was a part of a much larger estate known as the Blenheim. This
changed in 1793 when James Monroe purchased the land from Carter for 1,000 pounds. After
several delays, Monroe, and his family moved to the Highland in 1799, where they would stay
until 1825. The Highland, as Monroe and his family called it, was a working plantation that
consisted of 1,000 acres that eventually expanded over time to 3,500 acres. Monroe began
changing his home in the early 1800s as he added several adjacent buildings such as a slave

Another construction presumed to have taken place on the structure is the creation of outrigger
beams, which help support the building s exterior. Due to their complete replacement in the 19th
century, the building s outrigger beams construction dates are unattainable. The inability for the
beams to be dated has lead archeologist to believe that the construction of the support was in
Monroe s time. The building s southern cornice molding provides evidence that the porch was once
enclosed or reconstructed to fit the building s addition. Although later replaced in the late
nineteenth century, the framing of the roof suggests that the porch s first alteration took place in
the early eighteen hundreds during Monroe s ownership of Ash Lawn

the new environment. He chooses neither. Instead, he exceeds the preposition and completely
submits to the savagery. Jack commits hateful, cruel acts. He kills Simon as well as condemning
the death of Piggy. He dresses up in camouflage and aggressively kills animals. For example,
Jack made a rush and stabbed at Ralph s chest with his spear.... They were chest to chest,
breathing fiercely, pushing and glaring (177). This shows his complete transformation. Ralph
hadn t transformed like Jack, and didn t feel the constant pressure. Jack constantly needed more
power and more fear. He needed to devote himself to the island. He wanted to act upon all evil
urges. As stated, They were savages it was true; We see now from Ralph s side, that Jack twisted
the tribes mind like a devil would to the point of making them little savages (185). Since Jack
had yielded, he had to turn everyone else too. Jack resembles Gimpel in many ways. As Gimpel
was confronted with darkness that altered the way he thought about the world, so was Jack. Both
characters allow urges that linger in the back of their mind to assert control. Unlike Ralph, both
characters could not resist temptation. However, Ralph is able to stick with his morals, even as
everything is taken away from him. He is starving, hurt, and truly alone, yet he still holds onto
himself. Ultimately, the evil and hatred Jack possessed trump Ralphs realistic and fair ideals. This
is because of everyone has their own battles within.

Geocaching Essay
Geocaching is a great way to spend an afternoon, a day or a weekend. This activity seems to take
the nation by storm and is responsible for the increasing popularity and availability of GPS and car
navigation systems on the market today. Many people do not just buy minimal systems that guide
their coordination with the beeps and echoes, but investing in complete systems that can monitor
much more useful and utilities mapping. Whether you buy a mini skeleton when it comes to

It can be argued that you can do at any time and do not really need geocaching in order to do so.
It would be incorrect, geocaching can take up hiking, biking, swimming, climbing and mountain
to find a small premium for the cache. Most of us would not solve all of these things during the
afternoon. In other words, is how to live outdoors only intensified. 3) With respect to the others.
When geocaching find all kinds of treasures clean and elegant. The idea is that if you take
something that you should leave something behind and create a log. You can learn a lot of
different people by examining the treasures they left behind and reading the log. You can enjoy
many different people from many different cultures, this appears to be a fairly common hobby in
which people of all ages and cultures spend hours in question. 4) As a part of something bigger
than ourselves. They were all out to find a special treasure, but I keep getting the clues to various
destinations along the route. Geocaching might not have millions of dollars of profit but of little
treasures along the way and many people are involved, which makes the game fun and exciting at
the same time. By participating you are one of the many people who will tread the same ground
and seek the same treasure. It is a unifying experience in many ways, and can be an exciting

Good Times Become Good Memories, And Bad Times Become Good...
Good times become good memories, and bad times become good lessons. I have had many good
and bad memories but this is one of the most memorable ones I have ever had. The most important
and vivid memory that seems like it was just yesterday was when my dad had to go to Iraq in 2009
for a year. At the time I was 5 and didn t realize the risks of him going over seas with the Army. He
could get injured or even killed. I was so depressed when I finally understood that he would be
gone for a whole year. He would leave when I was 5 and come back when I was 6. He would miss a
whole year of my life, and he would miss my 1st year of school(kindergarten). I remember exactly
where I was when my parents told me he was going away, when we had his going away party, and
when he actually left. I remember all of my emotions. It was a nice sunny day and my parents
decided we were going out to dinner. Little did I know it was the dinner that would change my life.
We decided to go to Max Erma s because that was my favorite restaurant at the time when I was 4.
They had the ice cream bar, and I loved it. I was wearing a pretty dress because earlier that day I
was playing outside and I got very dirty. After deciding where to eat, we went inside, and I had a
bath to get cleaned up. When we were all ready we got into our car and drove up to Gibsonia to go
to Max Ermas. It was very bright and sunny. It was a long drive and it felt like it took forever
because I was so excited to get ice

How Does Bret Harte Create The Image Of An Ordinary Person
In the storyline of the novel, the landscape enters organically, which is the main way of revealing
the character. Using the techniques of folklore, Bret Harte spiritualizes nature. Joyful and radiant,
with its fragrances, bird s hubbub, and color overflows, it becomes an ally of miners who were
raising an adoptive. And at the end of the story naturetakes up arms against the people. It brings a
disastrous hurricane that destroys the prospecting camp. Nature in Bret Garth novels acts as an
individual literary character.
In his novels Bret Harte created the image of an ordinary person, striving for all the best. He
portrayed outcasts as real people. There are unselfishness, self sacrifice, cordial kindness and high
nobility under rough appearance.

Virgil and Dante Essay
Virgil and Dante
In the note to Canto V regarding Francesca and Paulo, the Hollanders exclaim that Sympathy for
the damned, in the Inferno, is nearly always and nearly certainly the sign of a wavering moral
disposition (112). Indeed, many of the touching, emotional, or indignation rousing tales told by the
souls in Hell can evoke pity, but in the telling of the tales, it is always possible to derive the
reasons for the damned souls placement in Hell. However, there is a knee jerk reaction to separate
Virgil and, arguably, some of the other souls in limbo from this group of the damned, though, with
careful perusal of the text, the thoughtful reader can discern the machinations behind their
damnation.
Although the dynamic between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arguably, like the fathers of the Old Testament, he foresaw what would occur though not
precisely knowing the saving details. Also, like the Hebrew prophets, his work is filled with an
underlying sadness. The Aeneid ends, not with the joy or inevitably glory and majesty that
would be Rome, but with the bitter, angry Aeneas plunging his sword into the breast of Turnus,
howling for revenge for the dead Pallas. Thus, it is not surprising that Virgil ends up in precisely
the same place as the writers of the Old Testament: Limbo. While in the first circle of the damned,
a list is given of these souls which include Moses, Noah, Abel, the patriarch Abraham (IV.58), etc.
However, Out of our midst [Christ] plucked [these shades] (IV.55) shortly after the poet s death.
These are not the only similarities between Virgil and the old prophets: as many came to reach
goodness in and through the Old Testament, so did the poet Satius, who appears in Purgatorio
reach Christianity only by the help of Virgil. True, there is some awkwardness when Statius
confesses this fact to Virgil, but this awkwardness translates also to the rift between the old
prophets and the new, as depicted in the Earthly Paradise in Purgatorio:

Introduction
It is general consensus that how brains remember the past or imagine the future by using filling in
trick. For instance, college students more likely to remember that they always felt as they currently
feel when they hear persuasive speeches that demonstrably change their political opinions. (G. R.
Goethals R.F. Reckman, 1973) When studentreceive their grades on an exam, they currently are
more likely to remember being as concerned about the exam before they took it. (M. A. Safer, L. J.
Levine, A. L.

they try to recall what they thought about their romantic partners couple months earlier. (C.

The World Of The Eastern Hemisphere
Before the renowned expeditions of Christopher Columbus, or Ferdinand Magellan, the Polo family
were the original explorers whose triumphs and success stories inspired future travelers to discover
the unknown world of the Eastern hemisphere. During the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries,
Europe was in need of an intervention, something to bring life to the dull communities throughout
the continent. Marco Polobrought exactly this, and contributed so much more with his travels
across the world, bringing back religious morals, new spices, new languages, and new commercial
goods that were never heard of before. Although his intention might not have been as significant as
his impact, the obstacles he encountered and traversed through as written throughout his book,
sparked an interest and desire for international trade and traveling for Europeans to come. His
unique spark and impressive capabilities proved he was a tough man, especially with the voyages
he survived, the diseases he avoided, the country he governed, the bandit ambushes he fought, and
imprisonment he endured. Not only was he able to document his journey to various places, but he
was also able to spread his experience throughout Europe, thereby immortalizing his name.
Although Marco Polo was an exquisite explorer of his time and age, his wealthy merchant father
Niccolo and his uncle Matteo had originally introduced him to the world of the East with their
trading with the Middle East and pilgrimage to the great

Development Of A Mentoring Program
Hybrid Assignment 3
In today s volatile business world, it is vital for organizations to engage employees both
intellectually and emotionally. Through mentoring, employees identify themselves as a vital part of
the organization while creating a heightened level of ownership. Mentoring programs are of great
value to any company. In most cases, these programs are considered essential. By developing and
implementing a mentoring program, the learning process for employees is accelerated. It is said
that mentoring can accomplish things that training cannot (Johnson). Even though, developing a
mentoring program is not an easy task, the benefits outweigh the challenges. A mentoring program
will help alleviate high employee turnover and assist in building a pipeline of diverse employees.
The development of a mentoring program begins by deciding on whether it should be a formal or
informal program. On one hand, a formal mentoring program includes 1. Connection to a strategic
business objective of the organization 2. Established goals 3. Measurable outcomes 4. Expert
training and support 4. Direct organizational benefits and 5. Mentoring engagements lasting 9 12
months ( Business mentoring matters , 2012). On the other hand, an informal mentoring program
includes: 1. Unspecified goals 2. Unknown outcomes 3. Self selection of mentors and mentees 4. No
expert training or support 5. Long term mentorship and 6. Indirect organizational benefits ( Business
mentoring matters , 2012).

Albert Einstein Contribution
In the early 1930s after WW1, the Nazis were becoming stronger and more well known due to
violent propaganda. They were influencing scientists to label Einstein s work as Jewish physics.
Jews were not allowed to work official jobs, or university work, and Einstein was targeted to be
killed. Albert Einstein was a German theoretical physicist who accomplished much in his life.
He developed the general theories of relativity, the equation E = MC2, and won the Nobel Prize
for Physics for his research on the photoelectric effect. These are just some of the things that
Einstein did that made him the most influential scientist of the 1900s. In this report, I will explain
Einstein s life and accomplishments, and describe why I think he is a good role model. Einstein
was born on March 14th, 1879 in Ulm, Germany. He grew up in a Jewish family with his father,
Hermann Einstein, his mother, Pauline, and his sister, Maja. Einstein got married on January 6th,
1903 to Milena Maric, a fellow physics student. Due to Maric s ethnic background, Einstein s
parents tried to discourage the relationship, but they stayed together anyway, marrying the year
after Einstein s father died. The year the two got married, Einstein and Maric had a daughter, and
later had two sons. Einstein s marriage with Maric ended in 1919, but that same year, he married
his cousin, Elsa Lowenthal. However, Lowenthal died in 1936. When Einstein was in elementary
school at the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich, he felt

  • 2. Splintered Essay On Alice In Wonderland Published in 2013 by Amulet Paperbacks, Splintered is the first book of the heart warming Splintered series written by A.G Howard, filled to the brim with heartbreaks, sacrifices, and betrayals. There are multiple genres in which this book fits in. These genres include Romance, Adventure, and Fantasy, with some scenes of affection and many more adventures, laced with difficulties and trials. The protagonist of Splintered is a naive and stubborn teenage girl named Alyssa Gardner with a strange hobby of using insects for her morbid mosaics and also the daughter of a father with a mysterious past and a mother in an asylum for attempted murder. And the antagonist? Well, that s up to you to decide. Howard bases the book on Alice in Wonderlandby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is told in Alyssa s point of view. Howard has somehow weaved all these fantastically complex and interesting details into one book perfectly. It fits into most of the things that Alice in Wonderland introduces but makes the reader think that all of the beauty and the light is mistaken, for this book is set in a dark and mad landscape with creatures inside of which Tim Burton would be proud of. In Wonderland, Howard makes Wonderland make no sense. As Morpheus says: You understand the logic behind the illogical, Alyssa. Morpheus is stating that there is sense behind nonsense, which is complete and utterly nonsense. Which sort of makes sense, because it is Wonderland they are talking about, where there is logic behind the illogical . Personally, this book is one of the best books I have ever read. I am really into this book and the way that it jumps off of Alice in Wonderland makes it really enticing, perhaps because I am a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland. The detail of the setting, the characters, and the emotions make it very realistic and full of life as if you could almost hear the heartbeat of each of the characters in the book. This is truly a must read and I highly recommend this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Comparing Hinduism And Shintoism Hinduism, Buddhism, and Shintoism Both Hinduism and Buddhism originated in India. Hinduism originated first when around 1500 B.C the Indian civilization was overtaken by an invasion of pastoral nomads from around the Caspian Sea, north of Persia. These nomads continued to invade the region over several hundred years, conquering and settling among the native people. As a result of the clashes between these two cultures Hinduism emerged as a result of the fusion of the beliefs that the native people of India and the new arrivals had. Hindu priests created a caste system to deal with the problems caused by racial tensions between the new arrivals and the native Indians. The caste system divided the population into groups in which highest caste were the Hindu priests, who were followed by the warriors, the farmers and merchants, the servants and laborers, and ultimately the lowest caste were the war captives and slaves. The first encounter between Hinduism and Buddhism occurred consequently when Buddhism was created, since a Hindu prince named Siddhartha Gautama (also known as Buddha or The enlightened ) created ... The first conflict in which there was significant violence occurred in the third century B.C. when the Mauryan emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism and banned animal sacrifices. This action angered many Hindus who in return persecuted Buddhists after the Mauryan Empire fell. After these events the relationship between Hindus and Buddhists became very hostile until finally in the 13th century Buddhism became extinct in India, however, Buddhism kept spreading in Asia. Another more recent conflict between Buddhists and Hindus can be appreciated in Sri Lanka. This conflict was a civil war between the Sinhalese (which are mostly Buddhist) and the Tamil (which are mostly Hindus) that started on 1984 and ended in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Minimum Wage Is An Issue That Is Causing Uproar Amongst... Yimaj Sherif ENG 1520 Dr.James 16 August 2015 Minnsincsndcdcsdc Minimum wage is an issue that is causing uproar amongst working class citizens. For many workers, a simple increase of 30% in the federal minimum wage could be the difference between living in or out of poverty. Over the past few decades there have been countless increases in salaries, although none of those went to people who actually needed it. To this day the rich continue to get richer, vastly increasing their wealth, while the poor are struggling to provide basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing. While the rich keep get richer and the poor continue getting poorer, we have seen a decrease in the middle class; median income has turned into upper or lower middle class. Establishing legislation that provides workers with a wage that is able to sustain simple necessities is necessary, it would provide ample support for those who may not have been able to afford living to take a step away from poverty and move into the middle class. The minimum wage was set with the passage of The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). Its initial price point was $0.25 per hour, and it has been raised twenty two times since. It allowed for federal protections against employers like minimum wage, overtime pay for time worked over a set number of hours in a workweek, restrictions on the employment of children, and recordkeeping requirements (uc davis). In that year, the act applied to industries whose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Shaping Of Our Country Celeste Munoz U.S History I to 1876 Mr. William Stowe 28 November 2014 The shaping of our country has been impacted by several different factors, each contributing to it in their own way. Four of the major pivot points that occurred consists of: Jeffersonian democracy, Jacksonian democracy, Civil War/Reconstruction, Revolution/Constitution. However one of them happened to be the most impacting which was the Civil War and Reconstruction. The American Civil Waroccurred during 1861 to 1865, lasting only five years. America s bloodiest clash resulting in the death of approximately 620,000 Americans and millions more were injured. In the spring of 1861, the north and south began to rise into conflict over issues like states rights. Other conflicts include federal authority, westward expansion and slavery. When Lincoln was elected president in 1860, seven states seceded from the union and they formed the confederate states. After the first shots were fired four more states joined the confederate states. Abraham s election was the rising point to long debate over the federal and state governments. The war can be viewed in many ways. One as the final violent stages in a conflict of two regions. Another as the breakdown of the political system of the Democratic Party and as the max point of several years of social reform. Or also viewed as the main chapter in America s racial history. The survival of the U.S as one nation was at risk, and the outcome of the war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Advantages and Disadvantages of Switching from U.S.Gaap to... Advantages and Disadvantages of switching from U.S.GAAP to IFRS Nara Yoon Charles Center Summer 2009 2 Advantages and Disadvantages of switching from U.S.GAAP to IFRS In today s business, markets are demanding increasing conformity. Many countries have converted to and implemented the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) s accounting standards. The United States, however, still maintains its own Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). Both IASB and FASB have created International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S.GAAP) respectively. These accounting standards are rules of measurements for financial statements that companies issuing stock to the public must provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to more discretion, the differences also affect the numbers the companies choose to represent themselves. The area of financial liabilities and equity gives rise to differences that could affect how a firm chooses to raise capital (Hail,54). Reclassification of certain instruments as equity and debt will affect reported net assets and debt to equity ratios (De Jong, 2006).These changes will affect firms borrowing activities, debt covenants, ratings, and other contracts (Hail,54). In the area of consolidation, one of the specific differences is the order of the inventory. U.S.GAAP uses the Last In First Out (LIFO) method, which assumes that goods purchased most recently are sold first and that the remaining items have been purchased at earlier periods (Libby, 2007). Using the LIFO method results in lower gross profit, which allows a company to be taxed less. Under IFRS, however, the LIFO method is prohibited. Implementing IFRS would trigger a big tax hike for U.S. companies (Bogoslaw). This would probably diminish a company s position because of a higher tax burden. Thus, the differences between the standards in the various areas affect a firm holistically. The switch of numbers effect more than just the financial report but also the company s financial standing and its bargaining power. The second benefit of the conversion is cost savings, primarily for multinational companies. Before companies can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another consequence was uncovered racism in the medical community. This lead people to believe that the reason the experiment went on so long was because the subjects were all African American men that wore poor, and some even unable to read. For African American community, the exposure of this unethical study continued to distrust in the government and laws. The study did contribute to major changes. For example, public concern about lax protocols and potential harm motivated the U.S. government to reevaluate standards for federally supported studies involving human subjects. The changes made included requiring proof of informed consent by subjects and mandatory review of all proposed studies by groups called independent review boards. Leadership Styles And Leadership Style Stacey Feiner once stated, For those of you who really want to give critical thought to your unique leadership style and foster genuine followership, learn from what s out there and weave it into something meaningful and authentic. (Feiner, 2015) For the last two weeks, I have spent time self analyzing and soul searching to identify the qualities I bring to a leadershiprole. Many of the core values important to me also align between the participative leadership style and laissez faire leadership style. These values include working in a team environment, empowering others to make decisions and providing support for those decisions, keeping an open mind to new ideas /suggestions, and being involved with my team members on a daily basis. (Mooney, n.d.) As I learn ways to build on my strengths within these leadership styles, I also need to improve upon my weaknesses to become the well rounded leader I want to be. Larry Page, CEO of Google, is a leader who I would like to emulate. He also shares the participative/laissez faire leadership style. Mr. Page believes employees should be empowered to dream the impossible. He encourages out of the box thinking from his employees and encourages them to create the next new product innovation. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World : was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. 2. Treaty of Peace at Versailles : refers to The Peace of Paris (1783), a set of treaties which ended the American Revolutionary War. In September 1783, King George III of Great Britain signed a treaty in Paris with the United States known as the Treaty of Paris (1783) and two treaties at Versailles with King Louis XVI of France and King Charles III of Spain known as the Treaties of Versailles (1783). 3. Lafayette: During the American Revolution, French military man Marquis de La Fayette served under George Washington as a Major General in the Continental Army. The first article that I examined from Harper s Weekly was titled The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. In the early 1880s, French citizens raised money to present to the United States Liberty Enlightening the World, the immense sculpture by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi . (Edwards 90.) It is important to note that gift was not from the French government. It was a gesture of friendship from its citizens and I feel symbolized the stature, in France s eyes, that America had achieved in the world during the Gilded Age. The Harper s article discusses the dedication on October 28, 1886 of the statue of Liberty Enlightening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Why Is The Nurse Important In Romeo And Juliet 1 Romeo and Juliet From William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet is the most famous love story in the English literary tradition. The most important theme is love, specifically, love at first sight between Romeo and Juliet. I chose to write about the Nurse because she is the personal servant, guardian and former wet nurse of Juliet Capulet, and has been with Juliet since she was born. This character played a strong part in allowing Romeo and Juliet s relationship to grow and their passion to become stronger because she sends the letters to Romeo and helped them arrange their secret marriage. She also affected the tragic ending because she did not intervene when Juliet was to marry Paris. Because of the fight between the Capulets and the Montagues,... Later in the story, it is the Nurse who gives Juliet the tragic news about Romeo s banishment. Atthe same time, Lord Capulet decides it is time for Juliet to marry Paris. Rather than supporting and understanding that Juliet doesn t want to marry him, the Nurse advises Juliet to forget Romeo and marry Paris. • 15. Specificity Specificity: There are general or global demands that all human beings need to have general strength and power, good posture, core stability, mobility, and stability at all of the major joints. These components are all requirements for a healthy and functional body, especially in an athletic environment. All human beings squat as every single day activity. Picking up a box? Getting up or sitting down? Starting your lawn mower? That is a single arm row, using both back and core muscles to generate rotational power. Carrying groceries in from the car? That is a farmer s walk, which places a huge demand on the core and upper back (Wilmore Costill 2005). The concept of Specificity simply states that training bouts must go from highly general training sessions to highly specific training sessions. The concept of Specificity also implies that athlete become better at a particular and specific exercise or skill, athlete must perform that highly specific exercise or skill (verywell). The training sessions must be specific not only to athlete s sport/skills but to athlete s individual abilities (recoverability, tolerance to training stress, outside obligations, etc) (fitstar). This is the question raised by Lois de Broglie and is the focus of this essay. First we will cover the difference between particles and waves. Then we will cover the origin of this debate, the duality of lightand the double slit experiment. Then we will look at the man behind this unorthodox idea, what his scientific background is and his reasons for suggesting this unorthodox idea. In the photoelectric effect light was transmitted onto a metal surface, with certain conditions the light could knock off electrons, its behavior could only be explained by considering light as a particle aka a photon. In Compton scattering the radiation of high frequency waves off of electrons could only be explained by considering the radiation in terms of quantified particles. So is light a wave or a particle? Throughout the years the debate has gone back and forth and back and forth. In the 19th century Leon Foucault Established that light moves slower in water than in air which is in favor of wave theory in the same century Maxwell proved that light was an electromagnetic wave. But in the 20th century Max Planck discovers that light is quantified and not continuous and Albert Einstein reestablishes particle theory with his mathematical proof of the photoelectric effect. Interestingly a good example of the ongoing struggle is the fact that J. J. How was the samurai warrior killed and his wife violated in lonely woodlands at a time of dissonance in medieval Japan? Suspects emerge and an inquisition is held. But why do all players profess their guilt, rather than protest their innocence? Kurosawa has taken two stories (the 1950 filmis loosely based on the works of writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa) and created a multifaceted masterpiece peppered with shifts and contrasts. He delves into aggression and accountability to explore the collective Japanese consciousness after World War Two. He considers the meaning of truth and the judging of others. Kurosawa himself wrote: These strange impulses of the human heart would be exposed through the use of an elaborately fashioned play of light and dark (Akira Kurosawa, Something Like an Autobiography, p 182). It would be a keynote for the entire film (Akira Kurosawa, Interviews, edited by Bert Cardullo, p. 176). That keynote is struck as the woodcutter recalls the crime. Flashbacks were an unconventional way of constructing a storyline, and Kurosawa s create a complex intertextual relationship. The woodcutter strides into thicket, through full light, dappled light and shade, in an evolving montage of surety, uncertainty and disquiet. The scene plays with long shots, pans, close ups and takes in high angles and laterals. The segment is still analysed today for its technical and visual brilliance (Martinez, p 31). Analysis Of Tick Tock By Brian Eno Tick Tock is an ambient piece of music that was made as a direct influence of Brian Eno s four part ambient series of albums. 2/1 in particularly from Music for Airports is a reference for the aesthetics of the sound design in the song which has a lot of darkened textures and is almost lullaby esque in nature. A lot of randomness is often found within the ambient genre as a piece is meant to demonstrate an ever evolving state. This is hard to express in a one minute piece however, so a constant tempo was decided upon for the piece. To introduce some kind of randomness into it, the vocal part begins playing on different beats through out the evolution of the music. Minimalist music had a massive influence of Eno s music and I also wanted to take the aesthetics of that genre and try to apply it into my music. As a result of this, only using the three selected sounds allowed me to avoid overcrowding the piece which isn t meant to be imposing in nature i.e. background music. The sound is derived from a vocal part saying tick tock and heavily laden with a clear long hall reverb to give a huge depth to the voice. A slight delay on the voice is introduced halfway through the piece to represent the ever evolving state in ambient music. The piano sound is a grand piano mixed with a long hall reverb with a soft attack and medium long release to produce a dream like characteristic as well as provide a deeper spacial texture to the soundscape. The Knight traveled along the Mediterranean coast (Chaucer 61) to multiple regions including Russia, North Africa, Anatolia, etc. and also fought in fifteen mortal battles (Chaucer 63) and always killed his men (Chaucer 65) showing evidence of his devotion to his profession. This is the opposite of the Squires distracted attitude as shown in the text when it says, He could make songs and poems and recite, /Knew how to joust and dance, to draw and write (Chaucer 97 98). The Squire s focus is fixated on his own entertainment instead of this profession, displaying how he is not as dedicated to his work compared to his father. Chaucer s countless descriptions about battles in the Knight s description shows how the Knight is chivalrous and dedicated, willing to fight solitarily in a moments notice, while in the Squire is more focused on himself than battles, showing how they both exhibit disparate approaches in relation to devotion Though the Knight and the ... Both characters allow urges that linger in the back of their mind to assert control. Unlike Ralph, both characters could not resist temptation.
