Overview of WP3: Establishment/Enhancement of the Careers,
Employability and Enterprise Services (CEES)
Methodology of the effective graduate
employability enhancement scheme
preparation
•career orientation evaluations for students and
graduates;
•professional portfolio for students with a listing
of their skills
•preparation for employability based on real-life
scenarios;
•a skill-based job placement;
•the internship during the study
•the market study in which the current trends
maintaining a close relationship with graduates
for their support in professional development
and receiving ongoing feedback enables to guide
continuous improvement efforts.
CEES services will include:
It all starts with a strategy...
•Resource planning vs. resource management
•Resource management - the overall idea of making informed decisions about
where to place resources in order for your initiative to run efficiently. RM is
usually done by people with training who have the expertise and background to
make these kinds of judgments calls on behalf of a business or an initiative.
•or it can be done by top management to decide how to best utilize the resource
•they should decide what additional resources might be needed (e.g. more career
counselors?), and determine where resources are being wasted (too long opening
hours?)
•Resource planning is a particular strategy that can make resource management
more effective.
•Identifying every resource that will need to be used in order to complete your
initiative
You should have a resource strategy completed before starting any kind of
project/initiative/task
•To enhance graduates employability you must have staff who posses the knowledge, skills, and abilities
•Specialised functions: career and employment advising/coaching/counseling, cooperative education, internships,
work-study/on-campus employment, graduate and professional school advising, integration of technologies, etc.
•If you have a Career Centre: students, alumni, faculty, administrators, community members, and employers
•But also interns, assistants, volunteers, support staff, technicians...
Workforce human resources
•In the case of Centre: the director, associate directors, and assistant directors
•Selected on the basis of formal education and training, relevant work experience, personal skills and competencies,
relevant professional credentials, and their potential for promoting learning and development in students, applying
effective practices to educational processes.
•If career services are offered by several units, the institution must designate an individual or team that will be
responsible for coordinating the institution’s programs and services, and aligning career services with the mission of
the institution.
•Regular assessments of performance
Management/leadership
Expertise
Prerequisities: formal education and training, relevant work experience, and personal skills and
competencies (e.g. mock interviews)
•They should be given access to professional development opportunities, including inservice training
programs and professional conferences/workshops/webinars.
•Ongoing staff training and development to promote knowledge and skill development
•All staff members working in initiatives supporting graduates employability should be trained in legal,
confidential, and ethical issues related to providing career services.
Technology
•Good awareness of current trends in technology and their use in practice
•Adequate hardware, software, such as:
1. Career services websites: up-to-date information regarding mission, location, staffing, contact information, programs, and services
available to students and graduates. The website should be integrated within the college/university technological infrastructure and
include links to appropriate sites both within and external to the institution.
2. Internal systems: online opportunity listings and student resume databases.
3. Social media platforms, apps, etc.
4. Appropriate tools to support virtual advising, programming, and recruiting.
Data security and privacy of student records must adhere to the institutional legal and technology privacy policies.
•Absence of dedicated and stable public funding for career development support
•Career guidance in education and training is frequently under-funded
•Lack of clarity regarding the administrative responsibility for guidance activities
•“floats” between different stakeholders with different priorities, such as schools, VET institutes or municipal authorities, depending on the whims of
administrative or political reforms – state specific
If you run a career centre you must demonstrate fiscal responsibility consistent with institutional policies and procedures as well as local,
state, and federal regulations.
•Budget strategy: relevant expenditures, current internal resources, unmet needs of the unit and the stakeholders and preparation for potential budget
variations.
•Just a few examples of costs: the payment of wages, the purchase of equipment, or the renting of a workspace, etc.
•Funding strategy: university, sources of funding outside of the institution: special projects, scholarships, national/international funding programmes,
donor funding (NGOs?), sponsorships, foundations, and professional associations, etc.
•Be as specific as possible
Finance
Facilities
• Typically located on college campuses
• The most important for career services: Equipment and facilities must be secured to protect the confidentiality and safety of records.
• Usually provided: Internet connection, offices, and access to conference rooms and large-group meeting rooms that have an appropriate
level of technology to support service delivery.
• Facilities must be accessible to persons with disabilities.
• provide office hours at times appropriate for its stakeholders (consultations, mentoring etc.)
• Offices, open-space, co-working, library, internet cafés, laboratories, student waiting area, a career resource center, sufficient storage space
etc.

Actions
Timeline and Responsibilities
Stakeholders
1) The Most important Stake holders
Admission groups are on the front-lines of
student enrollment, and since
most higher education websites have the
mandate to solve student
enrollment problems, admission groups are
the key stakeholder group
Since financial aid is often critical in meeting
enrollment goals, we seek
to understand how the institution supports
prospective students and
families through the aid process, what sorts of
aid are available, and the
overall philosophy and approach
In addition to learning about prospective
students, we learn about the
admissions goals and targets, specific
recruiting priorities, and how the
CRM and other recruitment systems might
need to integrate into the
website.
Other Stakeholders
President
It’s important to gather from the President
the high-level business and
strategic goals for the website. If a multi-
year strategic plan is in place, we
review this beforehand and follow up with
questions. We also seek to
understand how she or he would like to
be involved in the project and at what
points she or he would like to check-in
The deans
• They are the heads of their own
“business units” and we like to get their
perspective across: brand, market
position, admissions, research, and
academics
• For smaller universities and colleges, we
look to the deans, department heads,
and faculty to help us understand the
academic student experience
Student life stake
During discovery, we frequently speak with all the departments that
touch enrolled student experience —
housing, dining, student services, career services, student groups —
as one large group. These groups provide
critical information about the student experience on campus outside
of the classroom. Some of these groups
have unique content needs or third-party tools that need to be
integrated into the website. We’re also looking
to speak to these groups about the unique traditions on campus as
these can become “choice factors” and
storytelling moments on the website
Alumni
Alumni and development groups typically look for
smooth integration or entry points into
their existing community systems, email, and online
donation systems. Typically, alumni
departments want to ensure that they can
effectively communicate their message to their
audience. They are also interested in
understanding how they can leverage the calendar,
student stories, and news stories to engage alumni
and donor audiences.
Information Technology
Our conversations with IT tend to focus on practical
and tactical issues — integration,
hosting, and ongoing support and maintenance.
During discovery we like to engage IT
in conversations to make sure that the launch of the
site goes smoothly and we
follow any internal protocols
Athletic
athletics are an important
stakeholder as we work to integrate
the athletics calendar
with the main calendar, share
content between the sites, and tell
a comprehensive
story about the opportunity that
sports plays in the life of the
school.

The website should be integrated within the college/university technological infrastructure and include links to appropriate sites both within and external to the institution. 2. Internal systems: online opportunity listings and student resume databases. 3. Social media platforms, apps, etc. 4. Appropriate tools to support virtual advising, programming, and recruiting. Data security and privacy of student records must adhere to the institutional legal and technology privacy policies.
  • 9. •Absence of dedicated and stable public funding for career development support •Career guidance in education and training is frequently under-funded •Lack of clarity regarding the administrative responsibility for guidance activities •“floats” between different stakeholders with different priorities, such as schools, VET institutes or municipal authorities, depending on the whims of administrative or political reforms – state specific If you run a career centre you must demonstrate fiscal responsibility consistent with institutional policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations. •Budget strategy: relevant expenditures, current internal resources, unmet needs of the unit and the stakeholders and preparation for potential budget variations. •Just a few examples of costs: the payment of wages, the purchase of equipment, or the renting of a workspace, etc. •Funding strategy: university, sources of funding outside of the institution: special projects, scholarships, national/international funding programmes, donor funding (NGOs?), sponsorships, foundations, and professional associations, etc. •Be as specific as possible Finance
  • 10. Facilities • Typically located on college campuses • The most important for career services: Equipment and facilities must be secured to protect the confidentiality and safety of records. • Usually provided: Internet connection, offices, and access to conference rooms and large-group meeting rooms that have an appropriate level of technology to support service delivery. • Facilities must be accessible to persons with disabilities. • provide office hours at times appropriate for its stakeholders (consultations, mentoring etc.) • Offices, open-space, co-working, library, internet cafés, laboratories, student waiting area, a career resource center, sufficient storage space etc. Source: NACE Professional Standards for College and University Career Services
  • 17. 1) The Most important Stake holders Admission groups are on the front-lines of student enrollment, and since most higher education websites have the mandate to solve student enrollment problems, admission groups are the key stakeholder group Since financial aid is often critical in meeting enrollment goals, we seek to understand how the institution supports prospective students and families through the aid process, what sorts of aid are available, and the overall philosophy and approach In addition to learning about prospective students, we learn about the admissions goals and targets, specific recruiting priorities, and how the CRM and other recruitment systems might need to integrate into the website.
  • 18. Other Stakeholders President It’s important to gather from the President the high-level business and strategic goals for the website. If a multi- year strategic plan is in place, we review this beforehand and follow up with questions. We also seek to understand how she or he would like to be involved in the project and at what points she or he would like to check-in The deans • They are the heads of their own “business units” and we like to get their perspective across: brand, market position, admissions, research, and academics • For smaller universities and colleges, we look to the deans, department heads, and faculty to help us understand the academic student experience Student life stake During discovery, we frequently speak with all the departments that touch enrolled student experience — housing, dining, student services, career services, student groups — as one large group. These groups provide critical information about the student experience on campus outside of the classroom. Some of these groups have unique content needs or third-party tools that need to be integrated into the website. We’re also looking to speak to these groups about the unique traditions on campus as these can become “choice factors” and storytelling moments on the website
  • 19. Alumni Alumni and development groups typically look for smooth integration or entry points into their existing community systems, email, and online donation systems. Typically, alumni departments want to ensure that they can effectively communicate their message to their audience. They are also interested in understanding how they can leverage the calendar, student stories, and news stories to engage alumni and donor audiences. Information Technology Our conversations with IT tend to focus on practical and tactical issues — integration, hosting, and ongoing support and maintenance. During discovery we like to engage IT in conversations to make sure that the launch of the site goes smoothly and we follow any internal protocols Athletic athletics are an important stakeholder as we work to integrate the athletics calendar with the main calendar, share content between the sites, and tell a comprehensive story about the opportunity that sports plays in the life of the school.
