Comparing Making Sarah Cry And The Watsons Go To Birmingham
The poem Making Sarah Cry and the play The Watsons Go to Birmingham have a similar theme
of being different. Even though they have the same theme, they show it different ways. For
instance, the characters have a different influence on others. The theme in Making Sarah Cry is
being different. This is the theme because in the poem, it said Sarah was not like the rest, she
was slow and not smart. Sarah wasn t accepted by the boy and his friends. They made fun of the
faces she made, the way she stomped her feet, and the stutter when she spoke. Another reason
why the theme is being different is because when the boy got hurt they treated him differently.
They called him a freak and asked where he got the ugly mask because of his limp and jagged
scar across his face. When he got hit by the car and people started treating him differently, he didn
t like it. Now that people are treating him like he treated Sarah, he rethinks the choices that he has
made. In the poem it says for at last he knew the difference, between what s right and wrong. And
Sarah didn t seem so weird, in his understanding eyes . In this part, he finally realizes that teasing
Sarah and making fun of her, because she was different, was not right.... Show more content on

The Skin has numerous functions as it serves as a protective barrier, regulates body temperatures,
controls water retention, and secretes sweat and so on. The anatomy of skin can be broken down
into three different layers which include; the epidermis, dermis, and the subcutaneous tissue also
known as the hypodermis. The purpose of this paper is to explain the relationship between the
layers of skin and friction skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flexibility of a ridge means that no two people have the same fingerprint. According to Maceo
(2011), the morphology of friction ridge skin is a mere reflection of its functions. She states that
ridges and sweat pores allow the hands to grasp things while the creases allow the skin to be
flexible (Maceo, 2011).
Friction ridge skin has two properties; uniqueness and permanence. Permanence is the principle that
a person s fingerprints remain essentially unchanged throughout their lifetime. As new skin cells
form, they remain cemented in the existing friction ridge and furrow pattern (Center, National
Forensic Science Technology, 2015). Friction ridge skin is actually pretty durable however it does
go through subtle changes throughout our lifetime and the variations are caused by the flexibility.
According to Maceo (2011) even though the skin is subject to things such as injury or aging,
understanding the process is the key to explaining the loss of minutiae. As for injuries, once the
skin is healed of any damages these ridges begin to grow back. Even a cut through the finger doesn
t necessarily change the uniqueness of anyone s fingerprints. If scars are present it simply adds
another unique characteristic to the print.
In conclusion the relationship between the properties of skin and friction skin impressions is that
without these characteristics or capabilities fingerprints wouldn t exist. The

The Harms of Losing Predatory Animals
Though it is not as commonly known, loss of predatory animals can be just as bad, if not worse, for
the environment than the loss of prey animals. The depletion of animals like bears, mountain lions,
and wolves have affected the environment around us in more ways than one might think.
The deciduous forest can be a very harsh environment to live in. The temperature can range from
extremely cold during the winter to nice sunny, fairly warm days in the summer. Precipitation can
be anywhere from fifty to 200 inches in one year, which is a pretty big range. Deciduous forests
are filled with different kinds of organisms. The most important predatory animals are wolves,
bears, and mountain lions. If they were gone, the population of rabbits and deer would skyrocket
which would throw off the stability of the forest. Bears, wolves, and mountain lions all live
together in the deciduous forests of northern California. They live in other places, but this is one of
the few where they all share a space in the environment.
The decline in numbers of bears, wolves, and mountain lions were all caused by their one biggest
shared predator: Humans. We almost knocked out three whole species because we honestly
believed they were bad for the environment. We wanted to save all the cute little animals, and did
not realize the huge impact it would be on the environment if the predators were gone. Humans
have been hunting bears for both sport and extermination for about one hundred years. Wolves have

Sydney Parkinson Research Paper
As a young person I was captivated and intrigued by the tales of early explorers and naturalists,
especially the British. Captain James Cook s voyages especially sparked my sense of adventure
and curiosity. Being among the first westerners to have contact with unknown cultures must have
been magnificent. To be exposed to foreign languages, material culture, flora and fauna and then
to have the opportunity to record the life style and environment for generations to glimpse is
extraordinary. Sydney Parkinson was one of these fortunate people who was in the right place at
the right time, to work in the capacity of one of botanical artist on board the first voyage to the
South Seas on board the Endeavor , captained by James Cookand hired by Sir Joseph Banks. He

people in the world of natural history and botany who recognized his talents and skills as an
artist. He was introduced to James Lee, also a Quaker, who had a major influence in botanical
enterprises in England. Lee, for a time, was employed at the Chelsea Physic Gardens; published
the first book written I English titled, An Introduction to Botany which introduced the principles
of Linnaeus classification; partnered with Louis Kennedy in establishing the Vineyard Nursery,
and the infamous French Botanical artist Pierre Joseph Redoute also stayed with the Lee s for a
period of time. Needless to say, Lee was influential and esteemed in the field of botany and the
natural sciences. Lee saw Parkinson s early flower paintings which were exhibited at the Free
Society in London in 1766 he was so impressed by Parkinson s ability, that he hired him to tutor
his 13 year old daughter, Ann. Several of her adult paintings are now at Kew. (Parkinson Journal,

Band Is More Than Just Playing An Instrument Essay
Band Is More Than Just Playing an Instrument
I have been asked many times by my friends that aren t in band why are you in band? Get out of
band so we can be in the stands together during the game. band is lame, They do not understand
what band is really about. Band is not just about playing an instrument and marching. I started
band in the 6th grade, I honestly thought that I wasn t going to make it to my senior year, but
here I am a senior in band. I am not forced to be in band I can get out at anytime anyday, but I
choose not to. It is hard when you are marching and it feels like 100+ degrees. You feel like you
want to pass out, but you just have to suck it up and be tough. Throughout the years I have been
in band I have created friendships. I have my closest friends in band. I have created many
memories in band that will last a lifetime, that I will share one day with my kids. I do not know
what I would do without band. Getting in band has been the best decision I have ever made. Band
has been the highlight of my high school years. One of the scariest moments I have experienced in
band was when we messed up at U.I.L. contest, I was terrified I did not want us to make a 2, it all
happened so fast. It was time to get our results, we made a 1, I was so happy. The judges said that
if you were to close your eyes and listening to us, you would not know we messed up. We never
stopped playing and we recovered so fast, we were so matured when this happened. Band takes up

Misplaced Government Spending Essay
Misplaced Government Spending
I am proud to say that I live in America, the land of opportunity. I am proud to live in one of the
richest countries in the world. I guess you could say that I am a proud American. What other
government has a national budget of $2 trillion? People say money can t buy happiness, but I
disagree. The reason people say money doesn?t buy happiness is because they are spending it on
the wrong things. Of the $2 trillion at the government?s disposal, $355.4 billion is spent on the
military every year. I know that our President must fight terrorism and wants to spend billions of
dollars in order to keep American citizens safe; however I don?t think that spending almost a billion
dollars a day on military defense is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which means that these sources are paying around $658.8 billion dollars a year and the federal
government contributes the other 10% (www.ed.gov). This includes expenditures not only from the
Department of Education, but also from other federal agencies, including the Department of Health
and Human Services Head Start program, which is a comprehensive child development program
that serves children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. They are child focused
programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low
income families (http://www2.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/hsb), and the Department of Agriculture s
School Lunch Program which provides nutritionally balanced, low cost or free lunches to more than
25 million students each school day (http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/Lunch/ default.htm). When these
are subtracted, the Department of Education is left with 6% of the total education spending. Which
in turn is $55.8 billion dollars and 2.7% of the federal government s budget of $2 trillion. Despite
this large amount of money spent on the American education system, it is still not a reflection its
quality.
Perhaps if the government were to trim the fat on their national defense budget which will reach
$451 billion by 2007, there might be hope for the education system in our country. Instead of

Corruption In Tammany Hall Scandal, By Joe Mockler
My fellow Americans, America is falling apart right in front of our eyes. The American way of
life is deteriorating and we may never recover. The working class of America is being treated
poorly, and it continues to become worse. Massive businesses dominate every aspect of the
economy, from light bulbs to tobacco. To add to that, politicians have become corrupt and are
working for themselves, not for the greater good of society. As a populist member, I, Joe
Mockler, will combat these monstrosities and bring back the jocular American way of life. The
backbone of America, the workers, are being treated appallingly. The working class of America
creates the foundation for our nation. It is key to treat the working people of this nation with... Show

Political corruption causes instability in the government, damages the economy, depletes the nation
s wealth, and a multitude of other horrid implements. Even the president, Ulysses S. Grant, became
corrupt during his presidency. In 1872, the Pacific Union Railroad went bankrupt, after being
supplied money by the federal government. So, to try and escape bankruptcy, they offered
politicians and even the president, Ulysses S. Grant, shares of their stock in exchange for more
funding. Furthermore, many politicians that were offered accepted the bribe, continuing corruption
in the United States. Another famous example is the Tammany Hall Scandal. William Tweed
turned Tammany Hall, in New York City, into a political machine. Then, he used it to facilitate
widespread corruption, and most importantly, to rob New York of almost $100 million. One
particular example of corruption occurred during election day when the Republican party hired
Armed U.S Marshals to stand outside of the polls to improve their prospects. The guards would
stop Democrats from voting for their own party, denying their fifteenth amendment rights. The
Populist strives to end political corruption and create a more stable political environment for
future generations. America has entered a dark, depressing age where workers are mistreated,
massive businesses drown other businesses, and widespread corruption runs rampant on the local,
state, and federal level. But there is hope for our broken, fragmented nation. The populist party
fights to restore America to its former greatness and will fight for what is right and what is
needed. I implore you to vote for the Populist party to help create a prosperous future and a better

Persuasive Essay On Sulfide Mining
Mining; the act, process or industry of extracting minerals from the Earth. This is a relatively
simple term that most people, especially in Minnesota, are familiar with due to Northern Minnesota
s iron range, which is home to the MinnTac facility, the largest iron ore operation in the Unites
States. However, the proposed PolyMet sulfide miningproject would be the first of it s kind in the
state s history. In order to protect and conserve the environment along lake Superior in Minnesota,
and keep local residents safe, the PolyMet mining project should be stopped. I will firstly discuss
what sulfide mining really is, and what the impacts of a mine this size would be for both the
environment and the people of Minnesota. Then I will shed light on the business PolyMet, and
what they would have to do in order for the project to succeed and be safe. An article written by
MPR news hosts Elizabeth Dunbar, and Dan Kraker titled Everything You Need to Know About
PolyMet, on Dec. 13th, 2013 states that, Sulfide mining is a term used in the Upper Midwest to
refer to mining metals that are found in sulfide bearing rock... such as copper, iron, gold and silver
(Dunbar and Kraker 1). Sulfide mining is seen as more dangerous than that of its counterpart: iron
mining. This is due to the fact that in sulfide mining, minerals are trapped in the ground along with
sulfide, thus meaning that when the ore is exposed to air and water, sulfuric acid, the same material
that makes battery

Symbolism In Under The Persimmon Tree
(AGG) Many authors use symbolism to show the development of a character, like the author of
Under The Persimmon Tree does. (BS 1) In the beginning of the novel, Najmah changes from a
childlike girl to an adult like woman and the author uses the bukri, or baby goat, to symbolize this
change. (BS 2) When Mada Jan and Habib die Shaheed is born while Golestan Najmah dies, and the
author uses Najmah s first haircut to give a deeper meaning to this change. (BS 3) After Najmah
meets Nusrat, she develops into another version of herself and the author uses another haircut to
add another level behind this literal change. (TS) The author uses symbolism to show Najmah s
development throughout the novel.
(MIP 1) Najmah goes from an innocent child in the family to an adult in the family and the author
tracks this change with the bukri. (SIP A) The author shows that Najmah grows up to be an
adult after her father and brother were taken away. (STEWE 1) After Najmah s brother and
father are taken away, her mother goes into depression and just silently sits. This is like a role
reversal between Najmah and her mother. Before, Najmah used to need to be told to do the
work because she was much like a child. Now, it is the other way around. Najmah knows she has
to have the maturity of an adult in order to survive, so she does. This is why she tells her mother,
You may choose not to live, but the baby and I need you. And the flock needs food. I don t want to

Statistics and Psychology
Statistics and Psychology Paper There are numerous applications of statistical reasoning and
research methods in the field of psychology. From simple aspects of reading and interpreting
psychology articles, to completing personal research, statistics is a necessary concept to understand.
The scientific method is essential to research, and many of the concepts cross the lines into statistics
. It is also imperative for us to compare and contrast the characteristics of primary and secondary
data. Ultimately, the focus of these topics centers on the application of statistical reasoning in
psychology.
Statistics in Psychology One might ask themselves how mathematical concepts could possibly
apply to psychology. The answer is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondary data is published data, or data collected by others (Triola, 2010). Primary data is
preferred in research because the knowledge is obtained first hand, where secondary relies on the
observations of others. For instance, more accurate results in a weight study will come from the
direct weighing of the patients than asking them their weight.
Statistics in Research Psychologists use univariate principles when they measure only one variable
and multivariate procedure when using variables to ascertain relationships (Chow, 2002).
Psychologists often use statistics to identify areas of research interest. In testing a hypothesis, many
researchers need to turn questions into testable numerical data. One of the most common statistics
applications is the testing of the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis involves the original claim
like 50 out of 100 patients see success in regression techniques to overcome phobias and turning it
into a mathematical claim (Вµ = 50). The alternative hypothesis represents the difference of a claim,
or the probability that it is untrue because the test statistic is outside the given range (Вµ в‰ 50).
These claims are tested, and if it is found that less than 50 patients saw success with regression
techniques, then researchers are able to use statistical reasoning to disprove the statement. Overall,
statistical reasoning is extremely important in the interpretation of research results

Disenfranchisement In “Franchise”. Isaac Asimov’S 1955
Disenfranchisement in Franchise
Isaac Asimov s 1955 short story Franchise tells the story of a future United States in which all
elections are decided by a supercomputer, known as Multivac. In order to work, a single citizen is
selected to answer a series of questions; Multivac uses that person s responses along with other
information to determine who the winner of an election is. This story works as a prime example
of the concept of subjectivity as discussed in Jeffrey Nealon and Susan Searls Giroux s book The
Theory Toolbox.
Nealon and Giroux define subjectivity by exploring the distinction between self and subject. The
authors write that self is that which is primary, untouched by cultural influences ; continuing, they
write that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning, it seems that the supposedly free self is already a responding subject
(39). This dual nature is evident in the main character of Asimov s Franchise, Norman Muller.
Norman Muller is average; even his name seems to hint at that. A description early in the story
reinforces that sense of averageness:
His forehead bore deepening lines born of uncertainty and, in general, he had never seduced his
clerkly soul with the thought that he was either born great or would under any circumstances
achieve greatness. He had a wife, a job and a little girl and except under extraordinary conditions
of elation or depression was inclined to consider that to be an adequate bargain struck with life. (4)
While by no means a unique individual, Norman seems to have some sense of self based upon
this description. He did not feel the urge to set himself apart from others or to define himself to be
some sort of false greatness. Norman is perfectly happy with his average self, his adequate bargain
struck with life. As excitement grows in the Muller house about the possibility of the vote
happening in Indiana, Norman s anxiety seems to increase over this adequate bargain being at risk.
Perhaps Norman is fearful of being selected voter of the year because he recognizes the erasure of
self, however average it may be, when he is plugged into Multivac. His grandfather in law talks
about how he cast votes in

Summary Of Alfred Hitchcock s Rope
Film innovator and auteur Alfred Hitchcock is renowned for his genius in building tension, fear and
suspense throughout his films. Hitchcock used visual cinema techniques including cinematography,
symbolism and colour in films such as Rope and Vertigo to invoke a response from his audience.
Hitchcock wanted us to identify with the psychological and physical situations that his protagonists
and antagonists experience.
In Rope, Hitchcock uses innovative cinematography techniques so that the audience feel as if they
are a part of the unfolding drama. The camera work is choreographed so that the action is filmed in
one continuous shot. In this way, in Rope Hitchcock attempted to create the effect of a live stage
show. The effect of the real time footage has the result upon the audience of a constant unrelenting
sense of uncertainty and suspense that anything could happen at any time, such as a dinner guest
opening the chest containing the body of David. Because the audience is constantly on edge, their
reactions, such as fear, are heightened. The camera journeys through the unfolding drama in a point
of view style that is immediate and personal in terms of the characters and objects Hitchcock wants
his audience to see. This camera movement not only gives the audience a sense of involvement, but
creates a sensation of unease and claustrophobia in their minds. Due to the close up
cinematography, the audience becomes drawn into the film, feeling as if they are experiencing the

Theme Of Superstition In Huckleberry Finn
The use of superstition in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain makes the novel
more interesting. It adds character depth, gives reasons for the actions of the characters, and drives
the plot. It also makes the story a bit more humorous for the reader. Superstition, both good and
bad, is a large part of this novel. This is true especially when it comes to the characters, and the way
they interact with their surroundings and each other.
The main character of the novel is Huckleberry Finn. His superstition is shown early on in the
novel starting in chapter one, page three, paragraph three, line nineteen, when he talks about
brushing a spider off of his shoulder into a candle. He says this is bad luck and immediately turns

Also in chapter three, page fourteen, paragraph one, line one, Tom tells Huck about genies, and
how to summon one, but Huck can t make a genie appear and comes to the conclusion it s
another one of Tom s tall tales. Another one of Huck s influencers is his father. His father, Pap
Finn has two nails formed into a cross of his left boot heel, which he believes will keep away the
devil (chapter four, page sixteen, paragraph one, line ten). But Pap and Tom aren t his only
influences.
His beliefs could also come from his friend Jim, a slave who works for his guardians, Widow
Douglas and Miss Watson. He is an extremely superstitious character, and it makes him very
different from the rest. Jim s superstition is introduced in chapter two, page six, paragraph one,
line six, when he says his hat had moved to a tree limb above him while he was sleeping because
of witches bewitching him and taking him around the state, when it was really just Tom Sawyer
messing with him. These stories make him well known. Huck looks up to Jim, and comes to
him for answers. Huck asked Jim for answers from his hair ball oracle about his father. Jim tells
him he has to pay, and after he does, Jim says that the hair ball told him that his father was
coming, but Huck was going to be okay (chapter four, page seventeen, paragraph one, line three).
Jim believes that hairy chest and arms means one day he will be rich, which proves to be true by

Cannabis In Prisons
While mental health issues and violence are common in prisons throughout the country, developing
solutions to these problems has proved challenging. This study aims to evaluate cannabis along
with training, rehab and knowledge support inside of prisons as a solution to these problems. The
legalization and medicinal movement for marijuana is one of the most highly debated issues in our
country. The new recreational laws further complicate the issue in states in which the legislation is
in between medical and recreational legality. Massachusetts for example, passed a bill legalizing
cannabis. This makes it legal for any person over the age of 21 to use, possess, and grow cannabis
for Massachusetts residents (Edelson). This differs from cannabis laws in other parts of the United
States. For example, in Michigan cannabis is legal for medical... Show more content on

Francis published a number of reports between 2010 to 2013 which revealed failings by mid
staffs in providing basic care; from provision of food, drink, pain relief, wash facilities to
unhygienic wards and toilets. The francis report also estimated that between January 2005 and
march 2009, approximately 400 1200 deaths occurred as a result of poor care.
The inquiry laid blame on poor staffing, lack of compassion, poor management. Francis also noted
a lack of concern when issues had been raised stating Staff who spoke out felt ignored and there is
strong evidence that many were deterred from doing so through fear and bullying . Again other
agencies were slow to react to warning signs that things were not right at Mid staffs.
One of the recommendations that emerged from the francis report was the expectation upon all
NHS staff of a duty of Candour . It says Every healthcare organisation and everyone working for
them must be honest, open and truthful in all their dealings with patients and the public, and
organisational and personal interests must never be allowed to outweigh the duty to be honest,
open and truthful.
The total sum of both these findings equals to recurring themes of:
Poor staffing levels lack of training at all levels
Organisational cultures, that turn a blind eye to poor practices
Lack of communication between management boards and staff on the frontline

Essay on Retirement Revamping
Social Security is a major concern in American society today. Social Security first started in 1935
under President Roosevelt when he signed the Social Security Act that provided the elderly with
guaranteed retirement income. In 1939, benefits for spouses, dependent children of retirees, and
survivors of workers who die before retirement were implemented by congress. In the 1950 s,
disabled workers were also given benefits. Now days, Social Securityis under close scrutiny. Funds
are depleting, and Social Security is in need of some serious revamping. Many solutions have come
forth, but the most workable plan is to create privatized investment accounts that allow individuals

Still others feel that America needs to do nothing and the only measures needed are good economic
policies. They feel that the situation can work itself out, and as long as the economy is kept
healthy, then Social Security will be just fine. (Strengthening)
Of all the ways posed, the best way to solve both the need for Social Security reform and economic
growth simultaneously is private investment accounts. This solution is one of allowing the younger
generation to start privatized accounts for their social security funds. Martin Feldstein, a professor
of economics at Harvard University and president of the National Bureau of Economics Research,
states:
Our current Social Security system is acting as a drag on economic growth in two important
ways. First, the payroll tax distorts the supply of labor and the type of compensation sought by
workers. These losses are inevitable because of the low return implied by the pay as you go

Breast Cancer Prevention and Education Essay
According to the American Cancer Society, Breast cancer is the common disease of women in the
United States, other than skin cancer. After lung cancer, it is the leading secondary cause of cancer
death in women. It helps to have some basic facts about the normal makeup of the breasts to
understand breastcancer. In the past, this disease was one of the most feared forms of cancer due
to its fatality rate and because complete recovery often required breast removal. The best way to
fight this disease is to have a plan that helps you detect the disease in its early stages. Now,
however, treatment options have been expanded and there is a higher probability of full recovery
than ever before. Lives can be saved by increasing awareness of... Show more content on

These ducts lead to the nipple in the center of a dark area of skin called the areola. Fat encloses
the lobule and ducts. There are no muscles in the breast, but the rest underneath each and cover

especially in women who are poor or who have undersized breasts. Each breast also contains
blood vessels and lymph vessels which carry colorless liquid and lead to little bean shaped organs

of breast cancer. Several risk factors can be traced to better ways of identifying and detecting
cancer in an early stage and the effect of changes in the way we live by delaying childbirth, taking
substitute hormones and oral contraceptives, eating foods high in fat, or drinking excessive
alcohol. More risk factors include early menstruation, late menopause and having your first child
neither at an aging period nor given birth, and taking birth control for years if women are under
age 35. Other risk factors are a family history of breast cancer and concentrated breast

Who Is Lily In The Giver
The character I chose to do for my Character Analysis was Lily. Lily is Jonas sister in the
community. She has dark hair and dark eyes and her hair ribbons are always untied. At the
beginning of the book, Lily is a seven, so she wears a front button coat. Then, later in the novel,
when Lily turns eight, she starts wearing a front button coat with smaller buttons and small
pockets as a sign that they are old enough to start keeping track of small belongings . She has
very long dreams and always tells a lengthy description at breakfast. Since she is only eight, she
says she is looking forward to getting a bicycle when she turns nine. She bickers occasionally with
Jonas because they are siblings, but they always make up, because they live in a perfect world.
When the familystarts taking care of Gabriel, she becomes attached to him and it is clear she
would be a good nurturer, just like her father. She also has a stuffed comfort object that is an
elephant. She usually gets in trouble with her family because of her careless mannerisms. She talks

Other characters in the story think she is talkative and speaks without thinking. However, they also

the book, Lily is angry because a visiting child from another community kept getting in front of her

Discrimination In To Kill A Mockingbird
INTERTEXTUAL STUDY
Compare the ways in which the authors of both texts explore the idea of racism
Racism has been a major problem in the world for hundreds of years and it has never been resolved
nor it will never be resolved.
Harper Lee s 1960 novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Joel Schumacher s 1996 film, A Time To Kill,
both share similarities in the way racism is explored throughout both texts.
Racial violence and discrimination are two major themes that are depicted within both texts, but the
most important theme overall is the acceptance between the two races which is shown in both texts.
To Kill A Mockingbirdand A Time To Kill are two very similar texts that share the same plot and
the same meaning.
Both texts explore the idea if racism through the theme of racial violence.

Racial discrimination is the main type of discrimination throughout the novel when compared with
class or gender.
The primary example of discrimination in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, is when Tom
Robinson, a black man is wrongly accused of rape and assault on Mayella, a white woman.
When in court with Attics, a white lawyer, defending Robinson, the blacks were to be seated on the
top level of the courtroom to show that they were not important and that their opinion doesn t matter.
Discrimination is also shown in the film, A Time To Kill, when, again, in the courtroom blacks
were to sit on the top level.
Not only is discrimination shown in the courtroom, but also in the town.
For example, the two races were living on different sides of the town, blacks were not allowed to
associate with whites let alone touch them or nearly look at them.
Lee and Schumacher provide evidence that shows discrimination as being a major theme used
throughout both texts.
Acceptance was an important theme shown in both

West Side Story
No 10: Tonight (Ensemble)
Maria, Tony, Anita, Riff, Bernardo, Jets and Sharks
In this number, all the participants talk about the eventful evening they feel is ahead, each with
their own thoughts on what will happen.
There are three trains of thought:
1Riff and Bernardo thinking (in terms of their own gangs) of the fight arranged for later that evening
2Anita thinking about her nocturnal activities with Bernardo after the fight
3Tony and Maria more romantic love, idealised, though Tony has to agree with Riff, in

Abraham Lincolns Assassination
Abraham Lincoln was conceived in a log lodge in Hardin County, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln

Things Fall Apart Igbo Culture
Chinua Achebe once said, the world is like a mask dancing...if you want to see it well, you do
not stand in one place, (Goodreads). Renowned for his novel Things Fall Apart, in which he
responds to the stereotypes of the British who conquered the continent of Africa in the era of New
Imperialism, Achebe explores Igbo culture through many aspects of daily village life.
Contradicting the racism employed by whites in the 1890s in order to justify slavery in earlier
history, Things Fall Apartoffers a new fresh perspective into the lives of ordinary villagers of the
Igbo tribe in Nigeria, before they are taken over by the British. Just as the whites in Europe, the
tribe applies their own religion, customs, beliefs, and language to their lives. Through this lens the

penning the famous novel.

Sending Children To Public School Analysis
Allison Benedikt wrote this article to persuade parents of her opinion that sending children to
public school will improve the public school system. It does not matter if the parents can afford
private school; paying taxes to the local public school is not good enough. Every child should be
sent to public schooleven if the local public school is not very good. Public schools will not give
your child the best, but it will give them the tools to manage to get through life. The author
encourages parents to send their children to public school because if every parent sent their
children to public school, the public school system will improve over time and become an
excellent school for generations to come. This article has many bad arguments throughout it. The
primary one is the statement: You are a bad person if you send your children to private school .
According to the dictionary, a bad person is someone who does harm to others. If a child s parents
want their child to go to private school for a number of personal reasons, they are not doing harm

state of mind would not want their children underage drinking and risking their future. The author
makes this point seem like a positive experience about public school when in reality it did nothing
for her. Saying that she got drunk with her friends before basketball games gives parents a bad
picture of public schools. The article was written to persuade parents to send their children to public
schools but if a parent read this, they would start to think more. They would want their children to
grow up with good friends and learn good morals and after reading that statement, they might think

Narcissism in John Milton’s Paradise Lost Essay
Narcissism in John Milton s Paradise Lost
When Eve eats the forbidden fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, her decision to tell Adam of her
disobedience turns on two suppositions. If her transgression is kept secret from God, Eve s
augmented knowledge might increase Adam s love for her, and perhaps cause her to be more
equal or even superior to Adam. Even though Eve was created comparable to Adam as his helper,
she refers to Adam as her Author and Disposer. Furthermore, she says that while God is Adam s
law, Adam is her law. Apparently, Eve chafes under this arrangement, as she wraps up her
evaluation of not telling Adam of her sin with, for inferior who is free? However, her death is
assured if God has seen her wrongdoing. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Raphael joins Adam for dinner, Eve serves them naked, affirming her place in God s
hierarchy. However, Eve s nakedness arouses no libidinal desires in God s heavenly representative.
Eve listens in on their conversation while Raphael relates how Satan and his rebellious angels were
defeated, and how God and God s Son created the world. Eve leaves when Adam and Raphael
discuss astronomy, her reason not suitable for this subject matter, and she only overhears Raphael s
final warning about Satan. Information is power: Eve s status as Adam s weaker is clear.
During the conversation with Raphael, Adam relates his first experiences of passion with Eve,
an emotion mixed with his love. While Raphael praises Adam s capacity to love, he disparages
Adam s ability to control his passion. Adam should love, cherish, and honour Eve, but not subject
himself to her. Moreover, Raphael stresses Adam s need to love God, and the potential conflict
between his love for God and his love for Eve. To love God, is to obey God. For Adam, obeying
God means never to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil. While God leaves Adam free to
will and in his own will free, his will though free is mutable. Under the influence of passion sexual
desire for Eve Adam could choose to act in ways at variance with his free will and God s will.
Sexual passion engenders pride, affecting Adam s obedience and love for

one of the most controversial topics when it comes to professionalism mixing with open

Many stereotypes have latched onto the art form to make these appear negative, making it hard for
some people to find a job in certain expertise.
Despite tattoos becoming more accepted and mainstream in society, studies show that individuals
with visible tattoos are often hired at a lower rate than people without visible tattoos. A survey of
current undergraduate students reveals that students today are well aware that having a tattoo may
adversely impact their chances of being hired, but regardless of that knowledge almost half are still
considering getting tattooed. (Foltz, 2014).
Although, due to the effects tattoos have made on society, many jobs and businesses have become
open minded to these stereotypes that remain constant. Tattoos won t be fully accepted by everyone
in society, but with increasing popularity, society is getting more used to seeing them as another
form of art and self expression.
In terms of tattoos on actual bodies, the earliest known examples were for a long time Egyptian
and were present on several female mummies dated to c. 2000 B.C. But following the more recent
discovery of the Iceman from the area of the Italian Austrian border in 1991 and his tattoo patterns,

The Central Nervous System Cns
Impulses are transmitted from one neuron to the next through chemical and electrical conduction.
Presynaptic neurons conduct impulses toward the synapse while postsynaptic neurons conduct
away from the synapse. The electric impulse move from the first neuron, along the axon, to the
synapse at the synaptic knobs. Secretion of chemical transmitter into the synaptic nerve depolarizes
the membrane of the subsequent neuron. In its unexcited state, a neuron retains a resting membrane
potential. When the membrane potential is excited, the arrival of an action potentialat the synaptic
knob allows the neurotransmitters released into synaptic cleft to trigger an action potential in the
postsynaptic neuron (McCance Huether, 2014).
The central nervous system CNS is the main control center of the body that receives sensory input,
organizes and synthesizes it then provides instructions for motor output to the rest of the body. It

functioning such as thinking, and the cerebellum which maintains coordination. The midbrain,
pons and medulla are part of the brain stem and they control lower level functioning such as
respiration. The spinal cord joins the body s main receptors, and functions as a channel for sensory
input and motor output.

employers can not alter anything that can disadvantage a particular employee. An employer can

negotiation of terms and conditions after wage exceeds 100 000 and employee wishes to opt out,
as they can now get a common law contract. It means that even if an employee is not working hard
enough or the employer wants them to work harder by doing something negative to them, eg. wage
reduction, they are legally not allowed to. It also restricts employers in what they can do with their
employees. They can not be negotiated between employer and employee as they are common in
between all companies in certain industries. The Enterprise Agreements They legally protect the

Major Component Of Sustainability And Its Effects On The...
Biodiversity is major component of sustainability, and it is defined as the variety of genes,
organisms, species, and ecosystems in a given area or on the planet as a whole (Miller and
Spoolman 2015, 5). Urban spaces typically lack biodiversity due to a variety of factors that cause
the destruction of ecosystems, such as replacing established ecosystems with large lawns, parking
lots, buildings, and highways. When these well established, high functioning ecosystems are
disturbed, we eliminate the variety of genes, organisms, and speciesthat lived in that ecosystem. In
doing so, we have caused stress for the organisms that live there. For example, if we fragment an
ecosystem via highway or road expansion, at a minimum we are permanently altering the
breeding and feeding relationships that existed in that ecosystem. In terms of breeding, highway
construction separates organisms of the same species and keeps them from mating. This results

John Rain Quotes
John Rain is the main character in the John Rain series of novels authored by Barry Eisler. The
first novel that featured the series s titular character was Rain Fall that was published in 2003 and
later renamed A Clean Kill in Tokyo. The series of books may be classified as espionage novels.
John Rain has had years of training when he served in the CIA, the Special Forces and as an
assassin for hire. He displays a strongly rooted sense of paranoia, a drive to tie up loose ends
(typically through killing his victims), and an inability to trust anyone.
Rain had served in the Vietnam War as a member of the Special Forces before he was later
recruited by the CIA. The series of novels begins after he has already quit the CIA and is now

he gets a message from a rogue agent assassinate three targets or his partner (Dox) who has been

The Quad Cities Area Adult Population
The Quad Cities Area adult population generally fails to meet the USDA s recommended dietary
guideline of consuming at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, with only 35.7%
reporting meeting these guidelines (Professional Research Consultants, 2015). This policy analysis
will review current community efforts within the Quad Citiesarea that are concentrating on
improving fruit and vegetable consumption of area adults. Additional policy options to help
increase access, knowledge and skills regarding fruit and vegetable consumption will also be
reviewed in terms of strengths, weaknesses, feasibility, and economic impact.
This is specifically prevalent within the low income population (those who are just above the federal

The USDA classifies the different food groups as fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, dairy, and
oils. Each of these food groups has specific serving recommendations and other considerations
regarding food choices and consumption. In regards to vegetables, intake should vary among the
subgroups dark green, red and orange, legumes, starchy, and other. Servings per day should be 2
ВЅ 3, depending on personal needs. Having a variety of vegetables, as close to the whole form
as possible, offers an abundance of essential nutrients such as Vitamin C, A, K, E, B6, fiber,
potassium, niacin, just to name a few. Fruits offer similar nutrients as vegetables and should be
consumed daily, ideally two servings a day. Fruit juice can count as a serving of fruit as long as it
is 100% fruit juice. However, the benefit of fiber is lacking from this source and added sugar may
be present. Ideally, it should have no added sugar if choosing it as a serving of fruit (USDA, 2016).
Background
The Quad Cities metropolitan area comprises of East Moline, Moline, and Rock Island, Illinois
(Rock Island County) along with Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa (Scott County). The population
of the metro area is approximately 380,000 with 87.7% living in urban designated areas. The total
population by race (independent of ethnicity) in the Quad Cities breaks down as 90.1% white,
4.5% black, 2.0% some other race, and 2.0% multiple races. As of 2013, 6.1% of

Japanese Anime Vs American Culture
Recently, Japan s entertainment industry has swept the nation. With popular anime films like,
Your Name, and In This Corner of The World, it s no surprise that Japanese television erupted

familiar, but new world of entertainment filled with action, adventure, and melodramas. This
paper will reflect on Japanese dramas and their storytelling, ass well as marketing and production.

From family dramas, to high school dramas, action, comedy, the list goes on. And that s what is
so great about Japanese television, because there is something for everyone. Japanese dramas
really are different to American dramas. Today, a lot of American series focus on vampires,
zombies, or some random C.S.I. spin off. Now of course, Japan follows that pattern as well. But
there are so many series, mostly due to the fact that Japanese dramas only last about one or two
seasons, (Dunning, pg. 38). But some can go even longer. For example, the series Mito Komon,
aired all the way back in 1969, and continued to air years after, (Dunning, pg.

George Washington And Jefferson s Influence On The...
There are very few people who wouldn t think about George Washington,John Adams and
Thomas Jefferson when someone mentions the Founding Fathers. Without a doubt we can say
that they were three very important men who greatly affected the independence of our country.
Out of three, Washington and Jefferson are more talked about. They helped form this nation
into a sovereign and free country. Both were great men who did so much to shape and protect
this country and it is impossible to say that one did a better job than the other. Washington and
Jefferson did what was best for this county even though they had different views on many issues.
Both grew up in Virginia, but they were from two different class levels of living. Jefferson grew
up in more famous and richer family which gave him many opportunities in education. He went
to college where he was introduced to the writings of Isaac Newton,John Locke, and Francis
Bacon which later influenced his political views. After Jefferson graduated from college he
worked as a lawyer and later got into politics. Prior to his presidency he had many government
positions such as Member of Virginia House of Burgesses,Member of Continental Congress,
Governor of Virginia,Secretary of State, just to list a few. He was well educated in many different
fields. Because Jefferson had very good writing skills he was asked to write the main draft of
Declaration of Independence, but when he was done it was edited so much. Another writing, which

The Death Of Alzheimer s Brain
Introduction: Lost keys, an overlooked name, requiring an additional minute to recall where you
stopped your auto. No doubt we re talking average absentmindedness or simply ordinary age
related changes, not Alzheimer s ailment. In any case, when you start battling with errands that
have dependably been simple (e.g., abruptly not having the capacity to adjust the checkbook)
that is more reason for concernsaid by Nancy Udelson. Despite the way that 5.1 million
individuals age 65 and more seasoned are as of now influenced by Alzheimer s, it is not a typical
some portion of maturing (however the danger rises with age). It is a dynamic issue that assaults
the cerebrum s nerve cells, clarifies Ditty Steinberg, the official VP of the Alzheimer s
Establishment of America. The brains of individuals who have Alzheimer s are stopped up with
injuries that conform to the outside of neurons, eventually annihilating these mind cells. As the
person born after WW2 populace gets more established, the rate of Alzheimer s is anticipated to
blast, influencing upwards of 16 million individuals by 2050, unless therapeutic achievements
distinguish approaches to forestall or all the more viably treat the illness. In the event that you
have relatives who have experienced Alzheimer s, you may think about whether you re at higher
danger, however just the early onset type of the malady (which influences individuals more
youthful than 65 and records for under 5 percent of all cases)

  • 2. Comparing Making Sarah Cry And The Watsons Go To Birmingham The poem Making Sarah Cry and the play The Watsons Go to Birmingham have a similar theme of being different. Even though they have the same theme, they show it different ways. For instance, the characters have a different influence on others. The theme in Making Sarah Cry is being different. This is the theme because in the poem, it said Sarah was not like the rest, she was slow and not smart. Sarah wasn t accepted by the boy and his friends. They made fun of the faces she made, the way she stomped her feet, and the stutter when she spoke. Another reason why the theme is being different is because when the boy got hurt they treated him differently. They called him a freak and asked where he got the ugly mask because of his limp and jagged scar across his face. When he got hit by the car and people started treating him differently, he didn t like it. Now that people are treating him like he treated Sarah, he rethinks the choices that he has made. In the poem it says for at last he knew the difference, between what s right and wrong. And Sarah didn t seem so weird, in his understanding eyes . In this part, he finally realizes that teasing Sarah and making fun of her, because she was different, was not right.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flexibility of a ridge means that no two people have the same fingerprint. According to Maceo (2011), the morphology of friction ridge skin is a mere reflection of its functions. She states that ridges and sweat pores allow the hands to grasp things while the creases allow the skin to be flexible (Maceo, 2011). Friction ridge skin has two properties; uniqueness and permanence. Permanence is the principle that a person s fingerprints remain essentially unchanged throughout their lifetime. As new skin cells form, they remain cemented in the existing friction ridge and furrow pattern (Center, National Forensic Science Technology, 2015). Friction ridge skin is actually pretty durable however it does go through subtle changes throughout our lifetime and the variations are caused by the flexibility. • 5. The Harms of Losing Predatory Animals Though it is not as commonly known, loss of predatory animals can be just as bad, if not worse, for the environment than the loss of prey animals. The depletion of animals like bears, mountain lions, and wolves have affected the environment around us in more ways than one might think. The deciduous forest can be a very harsh environment to live in. The temperature can range from extremely cold during the winter to nice sunny, fairly warm days in the summer. Precipitation can be anywhere from fifty to 200 inches in one year, which is a pretty big range. Deciduous forests are filled with different kinds of organisms. The most important predatory animals are wolves, bears, and mountain lions. If they were gone, the population of rabbits and deer would skyrocket which would throw off the stability of the forest. Bears, wolves, and mountain lions all live together in the deciduous forests of northern California. They live in other places, but this is one of the few where they all share a space in the environment. The decline in numbers of bears, wolves, and mountain lions were all caused by their one biggest shared predator: Humans. We almost knocked out three whole species because we honestly believed they were bad for the environment. We wanted to save all the cute little animals, and did not realize the huge impact it would be on the environment if the predators were gone. Humans have been hunting bears for both sport and extermination for about one hundred years. Wolves have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Captain James Cook s voyages especially sparked my sense of adventure and curiosity. Being among the first westerners to have contact with unknown cultures must have been magnificent. To be exposed to foreign languages, material culture, flora and fauna and then to have the opportunity to record the life style and environment for generations to glimpse is extraordinary. Sydney Parkinson was one of these fortunate people who was in the right place at the right time, to work in the capacity of one of botanical artist on board the first voyage to the South Seas on board the Endeavor , captained by James Cookand hired by Sir Joseph Banks. I started band in the 6th grade, I honestly thought that I wasn t going to make it to my senior year, but here I am a senior in band. I am not forced to be in band I can get out at anytime anyday, but I choose not to. It is hard when you are marching and it feels like 100+ degrees. I have created many memories in band that will last a lifetime, that I will share one day with my kids. I do not know what I would do without band. Getting in band has been the best decision I have ever made. Band has been the highlight of my high school years. One of the scariest moments I have experienced in band was when we messed up at U.I.L. contest, I was terrified I did not want us to make a 2, it all happened so fast. I am proud to live in one of the richest countries in the world. I guess you could say that I am a proud American. What other government has a national budget of $2 trillion? People say money can t buy happiness, but I disagree. The reason people say money doesn?t buy happiness is because they are spending it on the wrong things. Of the $2 trillion at the government?s disposal, $355.4 billion is spent on the military every year. They are child focused programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low income families (http://www2.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/hsb), and the Department of Agriculture s School Lunch Program which provides nutritionally balanced, low cost or free lunches to more than 25 million students each school day (http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/Lunch/ default.htm). To add to that, politicians have become corrupt and are working for themselves, not for the greater good of society. As a populist member, I, Joe Mockler, will combat these monstrosities and bring back the jocular American way of life. The backbone of America, the workers, are being treated appallingly. Political corruption causes instability in the government, damages the economy, depletes the nation s wealth, and a multitude of other horrid implements. Even the president, Ulysses S. Grant, became corrupt during his presidency. In 1872, the Pacific Union Railroad went bankrupt, after being supplied money by the federal government. So, to try and escape bankruptcy, they offered politicians and even the president, Ulysses S. Grant, shares of their stock in exchange for more funding. Furthermore, many politicians that were offered accepted the bribe, continuing corruption in the United States. Another famous example is the Tammany Hall Scandal. William Tweed turned Tammany Hall, in New York City, into a political machine. Then, he used it to facilitate widespread corruption, and most importantly, to rob New York of almost $100 million. One particular example of corruption occurred during election day when the Republican party hired Armed U.S Marshals to stand outside of the polls to improve their prospects. The guards would stop Democrats from voting for their own party, denying their fifteenth amendment rights. The Populist strives to end political corruption and create a more stable political environment for future generations. America has entered a dark, depressing age where workers are mistreated, massive businesses drown other businesses, and widespread corruption runs rampant on the local, state, and federal level. This is a relatively simple term that most people, especially in Minnesota, are familiar with due to Northern Minnesota s iron range, which is home to the MinnTac facility, the largest iron ore operation in the Unites States. However, the proposed PolyMet sulfide miningproject would be the first of it s kind in the state s history. In order to protect and conserve the environment along lake Superior in Minnesota, and keep local residents safe, the PolyMet mining project should be stopped. I will firstly discuss what sulfide mining really is, and what the impacts of a mine this size would be for both the environment and the people of Minnesota. Then I will shed light on the business PolyMet, and what they would have to do in order for the project to succeed and be safe. An article written by MPR news hosts Elizabeth Dunbar, and Dan Kraker titled Everything You Need to Know About PolyMet, on Dec. 13th, 2013 states that, Sulfide mining is a term used in the Upper Midwest to refer to mining metals that are found in sulfide bearing rock... such as copper, iron, gold and silver (Dunbar and Kraker 1). Sulfide mining is seen as more dangerous than that of its counterpart: iron mining. This is due to the fact that in sulfide mining, minerals are trapped in the ground along with sulfide, thus meaning that when the ore is exposed to air and water, sulfuric acid, the same material that makes battery ... (SIP A) The author shows that Najmah grows up to be an adult after her father and brother were taken away. (STEWE 1) After Najmah s brother and father are taken away, her mother goes into depression and just silently sits. This is like a role reversal between Najmah and her mother. Before, Najmah used to need to be told to do the work because she was much like a child. Now, it is the other way around. From simple aspects of reading and interpreting psychology articles, to completing personal research, statistics is a necessary concept to understand. The scientific method is essential to research, and many of the concepts cross the lines into statistics . It is also imperative for us to compare and contrast the characteristics of primary and secondary data. Statistics in Psychology One might ask themselves how mathematical concepts could possibly apply to psychology. The answer is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondary data is published data, or data collected by others (Triola, 2010). Primary data is preferred in research because the knowledge is obtained first hand, where secondary relies on the observations of others. For instance, more accurate results in a weight study will come from the direct weighing of the patients than asking them their weight. Statistics in Research Psychologists use univariate principles when they measure only one variable and multivariate procedure when using variables to ascertain relationships (Chow, 2002). Psychologists often use statistics to identify areas of research interest. In testing a hypothesis, many researchers need to turn questions into testable numerical data. One of the most common statistics applications is the testing of the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis involves the original claim like 50 out of 100 patients see success in regression techniques to overcome phobias and turning it into a mathematical claim (Вµ = 50). The alternative hypothesis represents the difference of a claim, or the probability that it is untrue because the test statistic is outside the given range (Вµ в‰ 50). These claims are tested, and if it is found that less than 50 patients saw success with regression techniques, then researchers are able to use statistical reasoning to disprove the statement. Overall, statistical reasoning is extremely important in the interpretation of research results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Disenfranchisement In “Franchise”. Isaac Asimov’S 1955 Disenfranchisement in Franchise Isaac Asimov s 1955 short story Franchise tells the story of a future United States in which all elections are decided by a supercomputer, known as Multivac. In order to work, a single citizen is selected to answer a series of questions; Multivac uses that person s responses along with other information to determine who the winner of an election is. This story works as a prime example of the concept of subjectivity as discussed in Jeffrey Nealon and Susan Searls Giroux s book The Theory Toolbox. From the very beginning, it seems that the supposedly free self is already a responding subject (39). This dual nature is evident in the main character of Asimov s Franchise, Norman Muller. Norman Muller is average; even his name seems to hint at that. A description early in the story reinforces that sense of averageness: His forehead bore deepening lines born of uncertainty and, in general, he had never seduced his clerkly soul with the thought that he was either born great or would under any circumstances achieve greatness. He had a wife, a job and a little girl and except under extraordinary conditions of elation or depression was inclined to consider that to be an adequate bargain struck with life. (4) While by no means a unique individual, Norman seems to have some sense of self based upon this description. He did not feel the urge to set himself apart from others or to define himself to be some sort of false greatness. Norman is perfectly happy with his average self, his adequate bargain struck with life. As excitement grows in the Muller house about the possibility of the vote happening in Indiana, Norman s anxiety seems to increase over this adequate bargain being at risk. • 14. Summary Of Alfred Hitchcock s Rope Film innovator and auteur Alfred Hitchcock is renowned for his genius in building tension, fear and suspense throughout his films. Hitchcock used visual cinema techniques including cinematography, symbolism and colour in films such as Rope and Vertigo to invoke a response from his audience. Hitchcock wanted us to identify with the psychological and physical situations that his protagonists and antagonists experience. In Rope, Hitchcock uses innovative cinematography techniques so that the audience feel as if they are a part of the unfolding drama. The camera work is choreographed so that the action is filmed in one continuous shot. In this way, in Rope Hitchcock attempted to create the effect of a live stage show. The effect of the real time footage has the result upon the audience of a constant unrelenting sense of uncertainty and suspense that anything could happen at any time, such as a dinner guest opening the chest containing the body of David. Because the audience is constantly on edge, their reactions, such as fear, are heightened. The camera journeys through the unfolding drama in a point of view style that is immediate and personal in terms of the characters and objects Hitchcock wants his audience to see. This camera movement not only gives the audience a sense of involvement, but creates a sensation of unease and claustrophobia in their minds. Due to the close up cinematography, the audience becomes drawn into the film, feeling as if they are experiencing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Security first started in 1935 under President Roosevelt when he signed the Social Security Act that provided the elderly with guaranteed retirement income. In 1939, benefits for spouses, dependent children of retirees, and survivors of workers who die before retirement were implemented by congress. In the 1950 s, disabled workers were also given benefits. Now days, Social Securityis under close scrutiny. Funds are depleting, and Social Security is in need of some serious revamping. Many solutions have come forth, but the most workable plan is to create privatized investment accounts that allow individuals to have more influence over their own money for retirement.... They feel that the situation can work itself out, and as long as the economy is kept healthy, then Social Security will be just fine. (Strengthening) Of all the ways posed, the best way to solve both the need for Social Security reform and economic growth simultaneously is private investment accounts. This solution is one of allowing the younger generation to start privatized accounts for their social security funds. Martin Feldstein, a professor of economics at Harvard University and president of the National Bureau of Economics Research, states: Our current Social Security system is acting as a drag on economic growth in two important ways. First, the payroll tax distorts the supply of labor and the type of compensation sought by workers. These losses are inevitable because of the low return implied by the pay as you go character of the unfunded Social Security system. Second, the system reduces national savings and investment. Privatizing Social Security, transforming it from an unfunded pay as you go system to a system of mandatory private savings accounts, would solve both of those problems and increase ... Biodiversity is major component of sustainability, and it is defined as the variety of genes, organisms, species, and ecosystems in a given area or on the planet as a whole (Miller and Spoolman 2015, 5).
