of collaborative net creations.
• Playing Participation –
Important Net art factors attract user participation.

The shape of works change with user’s
participation and contribution.

• Transferring Authorship –
Artist of collaborative creations become the editors
of projects, and users participating in the project
become artists at the same time.

This Project focuses on an assumption about fortune-telling: The Internet and computers may have a mysterious power to predict something that people do not know yet. In this experiment, a net art creation is used to present this notion, which is particularly based on the tension of collaborative creation on the Internet. Hence, while users are participating in the procedure of fortune-telling, they are contributing to the net art project as well. Talking about the entire project structure.
The research will be divided into two parts: the exegesis and the major creative project. Investigation of collaborative practices of net art using fortune telling as a model and the developed circumstance of net art will be the main focus of the written section. The research on the modes of fortune telling will be served as the conceptual core for the major creative project. Thereafter, a series of net art projects will be created based on the research findings.
I am looking at the three aims of this project, which are, the research into the practice fortune telling in Taiwan, analyzing and classifying collaborative net art, and research into the esthetics of the collaborative creation in Internet.
The methodology applies to this project is the combination of qualitative methodologies; it has engaged the philosophical perspectives of interpretive research and critical research as well as utilised the qualitative research methods of case study and grounded theory.
The hypothesis of this research is: The net and computer (machines) can operate as a fortune-teller, utilising the power of the net, specifically collaborative interactive activity. In order to answer this hypothesis, three main research lines of enquiry have been followed: A).The relation between fortune-telling, computers and the net. B).The function of collaborative interaction across the Internet. C).The relation between fortune-telling and collaborative creation on the Internet. Here is a chart to show the correlation between these three areas and the execution of the creative project.
To justify the notion that the internet can function as a fortune-telling’s mystic power, this project has employed the theoretical concepts of the collective unconscious and synchronicity from Carl Gustav Jung to illustrate the rational predictive power of the I Ching. And to justify the rationality between fortune-telling and computers, the relation between the I Ching and binary code has been analysed by studying Leibniz’s research on binary arithmetic.
At this point, I have researched the most popular fortune telling practices in Taiwan which are shown as followings:
The term of net art is an art or cultural production which uses the internet as its primary medium, Net dot art embraces the content more
Collaborative creation is the main art form that I am looking at for this research program. Here I have analyzed four important factors on collaborative creation based on my research outcome , which including the following:
This project not only has examined the folk culture of fortune-telling itself, but also the phenomenon of the combination of folk culture and digital culture, particularly how people’s behaviour has changed throughout the hi-tech era. this project also attempts to integrate traditional cultural lore, the digital media logic of the computer and the Internet into an original net art project, which serves as a cyber fortune-teller and user-generated collaborative creative website.
