Aims:
- to review concepts and vocabulary related to
different sports
- To agree/disagree
- To teach and practice vocabulary related to
sport equipment and players
- To learn vocabulary related to popular,
uncommon and Olympic sports
8. Can you guess what the sport is?
•…………………a game played on a rectangular court by two players or two pairs of
players equipped with rackets, in which a ball is driven back and forth
over a low net that divides the court in half.
•……………………..a game in which two opposing teams of 11 players each defend
goals at opposite ends of a field having goal posts at each end,
with points being scored chiefly by carrying the ball across the opponent's goal line and by place-
kicking or dropkicking the ball over the crossbar between the opponent's goal posts.

players equipped with light rackets used to volley a shuttlecock* over

10. Can you think of any other sports?
• Ss are divided into groups of 3-4. Their task
is to write down the definitions of at least 3
(new) sports they have thought about.
• Definitions are written on the board and are
corrected with the help of other
groups/students.
• Students are encouraged to think about
uncommon sports and look at some pictures
(The Outsiders, B1, unit 10, p. 96, pre-reading
activity)
