week of getting to know the

management practices in the Army.
The Army aims to create a working
environment in which everyone can be
authentic about themselves, because
it improves operational effectiveness,ā€

The next LGBT conference is for all services in
the Armed Forces, and will be organised by
the Royal Navy at MOD Main Building on

LGTB conference held in March.
The theme of this yearā€™s conference was
ā€œCultivating LGBT Talentā€ to address the fact
that there are few visibly LGBT soldiers or
ofļ¬cers in senior roles despite recent statistics
from Phase 1 and 2 recruits indicating that
around one in six new soldiers joining their
units in 2013 are in this group.
ā€œThe concern is that LGBT senior soldiers and
ofļ¬cers feel unable to be open about their
sexual orientation or gender identity, or that
they leave before achieving senior positions,ā€
explains Major Damian Jenkins, chairman of
the Army LGBT Forum.
