Over 91 million people in India do not have access to safe drinking water, and contaminated water is a major cause of diseases like diarrhea and malnutrition among children. The organization HOPE has installed water purification units in schools and communities in Kolkata slums since 2007, providing clean water to over 100,000 urban slum residents and 3,450 students. By ensuring access to safe drinking water, the project aims to improve nutrition and reduce water-borne illnesses that impact school attendance.
