3. Facebook Cover Photo
This is the big picture at the top of
your Facebook timeline page is called
a cover photo:
Width: 851px
Height: 315px
Changing out the cover photo:
• If you haven’t put a cover photo
up before click on the “Add a
Cover photo” button on the top
right. You can always upload
another image, reposition the
photo or remove it from this
area.
It’s best to create a photo for this
area. Try and find a beautiful,
emotional cover and represents your
brand's identity.
*Cover photos cannot include:
A. Price or purchase information, such as
“40% off” or “Download it at our
website”.
B. Contact information such as a website
address, email, mailing address, or
information that should go in your Page’s
“About” section.
C. References to Facebook features or
actions, such as “Like” or “Share” or an
arrow pointing from the cover photo to
any of these features.
D. Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or
“Tell your friends”.
Covers must not be false, deceptive or
misleading, and must not infringe on third
parties’ intellectual property.
4. Facebook Profile Photo
Your profile picture represents
your page on other parts of
Facebook, in ads, sponsored
stories and the news feed
Width: 180px
Height: 180px
Facebook will resize this image
down to 32x32 to be shown with
each of the posts your brand
makes.
It’s extremely important to choose
a picture that can be scaled down
as the profile pictures that are
displayed on timeline posts are
really small. Best practice is to
choose your logo or identifiable
with your brand.
Changing out your photo
Rollover your current photo and
click on “Edit profile picture” and
select your choice from the drop
down. You can edit the visible
area of your photo from this area
as well in case your image doesn’t
fit right.
5. About
This is the area to display two
sentences describing your brand.
Make sure the main message isn't
truncated. Character count for
truncation varies, but can be
between 150‐160 characters.
The user than can click on the
word about to find out more info
about the brand such as contact
info, website and more.
Please refer to the US Facebook
page for the current About page
info.
6. Highlights
Under the about/application tab
area you will see the word
highlight with a line running down
your page. A user can easily select
how they want to view your page.
There is no way to default to what
view a fan sees. Everybody is
defaulted to highlight.
Highlights – things you have
highlighted and what Facebook
thinks is important – you won’t see
all your posts here. The user and
admin will need to click on See
more recent stories to see all the
posts.
Friend activity – what your friends
are talking about around the brand
Posts by the page – all the posts by
the page
Posts by others * – the posts you
allow to show up on your brand
page if it is moderated. You can
turn off this tab all together in the
admin panel if you aren’t allowing
users to comment because it will
appear blank to them and might
be confusing. Highlighting a post
here means it is highlighted on
that tab – it does not show on the
main timeline.
*see activity log page
7. Friend Activity
There is a section on each brand
page called Friend Activity. This
category lets the user know which
friends of theirs are interacting
with content from the brand page.
Followed by the number of friends
is a most recent post by one of the
user’s friends. In addition, the user
will always see a list of friends who
“Like” the page as well
8. Pinned Posts
You have the ability to “Pin” the
most important story to the top of
your Page for up to seven days.
After seven days the story will
move back to it’s place in your
brands timeline and you will need
to “Pin” another story if you desire
to do so. You can only have ONE
pinned story on your timeline at a
time. It’s a great way to call out
your most important post.
The yellow bookmark graphic on
the post denotes when something
has been pinned by the page.
To “Pin” a story roll over the right
hand area of the post so the pencil
/star icon appear. Click on the pen
and “Pin to top”.
*note that the video here is using the
native Facebook player.
9. Highlight Stories
Highlighting a story causes the
story to take up both sides of the
Facebook page calling attention to
the post. You can have as many
stories highlighted as you want.
They will stay highlighted until you
unhighlight them.
To highlight a post click on the star
icon when you roll over the right
hand area of the post.
Edit Pencil
Hide or delete stories that aren’t
as engaging or relevant with the
pencil icon.
You can also reposition the area
that shows in the post thumbnail.
From here you can also change the
date on of the story so it appears
in another place in your brands
timeline.
10. Milestones
Set milestones to define your key
moments over time. You can have
as many of these as you want.
Milestones live on your timeline
under the date you have
designated the post and are
denoted by a flag on your timeline.
Examples of milestones include
reaching a certain number of fans,
opening weekend, or a new trailer.
Dimensions for milestone photos
are 843 x 403 pixels.
You will need to set the “founded
by” date for your page before you
can insert milestones. To do so,
click on “founded” on the right
hand side of your page and go to
the very bottom of your page. You
will see the date that your page
was originally created. Roll over
the right hand of the post to reveal
the pen icon. Click on edit. Here
you can change the start date of
your page, insert more info and
upload a photo or video to give the
post more meaning.
You can then go back and start
creating posts to the date you set
your page for creating a history
around your brand.
11. Backdating Posts
You can begin filling in your
timeline with posts from the past
in order to start creating a rich
history around your brand.
You will notice that if you roll your
mouse over the line in the center
of your brands page a + icon
appears.
Once you click on that + icon you
can create a status update, upload
a photo, ask a question or set a
milestone for your page and set
the date you want that post to
appear on in the past.
Don’t worry about getting the right
area in the timeline to click on the
+ icon. You can set the date of your
post in the actual post itself.
12. Tabs | Applications
Your photos and custom apps
appear at the top of your Page.
You can have a total of 12 tabs on
your brand page. Each one must
have a application image and a
favicon image.
Four of your tabs will always be
visible, the user will have to click
on the arrow next to the fourth tab
to see the rest and it will give a
number as to how many are
available.
Ordering your tabs:
The photo tab will always be the
first of the 4 visible tabs and it will
always be the last photo that you
uploaded. You can reorder the
rest of the tabs by rolling over the
image and clicking on the pencil
icon and swapping out the
placement for another spot. Keep
the most important tabs as your
first four tabs.
You can customize the larger image
for your apps under “Manage” in
“Edit Page” “Apps” “edit settings”
“Custom Tab Image “ in the admin
panel. The smaller 16x16 image is
uploaded when the application is
created by the developer.
*note that the video graphic is a thumbnail of
the last video uploaded to the page. You can
change the thumbnail by editing the video.
13. Tabs | Applications
From each tab in on your brand
page you can see a list of all the
other applications by the brand
page.
Take advantage of larger app width
Page app width can now be
adjusted to be “Narrow” (520px)
or “Wide” (810px) in the
Developer App under “Edit App”.
Height is unlimited.
Note that the old fan gating a
landing page before liking a brand
page is obsolete. Your users will
always land on your timeline. You
can still put a fan gate on your
other applications and content to
encourage them to like the page
before interacting with the
application content.
14. Admin Panel

Create a priority list of pages to work on.
Identify the following items:
‐ Cover photo – Use this area to highlight your latest release with beautiful imagery.
‐ Applications – not only selecting the images, but are they still relevant and working for your pages? It’s a good time to
reevaluate what tabs you have up. Rearrange your applications to highlight the three you want your views to interact with
most.
‐ Set a founded by date for your pages and create milestones like trailer launches, release dates, cast joining a film.
‐ Start including a pinned post in your content calendars. It’s a great way to highlight your most important post like ticket sales,
a new trailer or dvd releases in a way that users will see them on their own wall and the top of your brands timeline.
Remember posts can stay pinned for up to seven days
‐ Start including highlighted posts in your content calendar, like calling attention to some of the photos from your brand.
Remember that including photos in your posts can generate 2 times more engagement.
