i’m here for
I’ve watched over 5,000 people create &
launch online courses while at Teachable.
Plus, I’ve traveled a fair amount (19 countries
& counting) & am a seasoned freelancer.
From all of this, I’ve learned how to take a
side project to full-time money-maker, and
I’m going to share that knowledge with you!
i’m Allison from Teachable.
Henna in Marrakesh!
There are many ways to make
money while traveling, so…
I’m just going to talk about 3 of them …

First off, I know making money
while traveling isn’t easy.
It takes hard work and dedication.
But Don’t
take my
word for it
6-figure blogger Matthew
Karsten of The Expert
Vagabond explains…
"I’m not going to sugar-coat this
and tell you that making money
while traveling has been easy.
Quite the opposite actually. I work
a lot more now than I did when I
first started. It’s also taken me 5
years to get to this point. For
the first 2 years, there’s no way I
could’ve survived on my travel
blog income alone.”
But, if you’re ready to embrace the
journey & make money while you
travel, here are 3 options to explore.
Making Money
Blogging
You can blog anywhere.
All you need is an internet
connection and your computer.
You can share your experiences -
your wins & losses, hardships &
triumphs, the good & bad
and you can do this on any topic!
If you already have an audience &
you’re making money with your blog,
well, you’re set!
Use that baby to fund your fun!
Now, if you’re just
starting out, it takes
much more time &
effort to get the
money rolling in.
According to Amy
Lynn Andrews (a 12-
year blogging vet)…
"If you’re new to the
blogging and social
media scene, I’d say give
yourself at least 3-6
months before you start
pulling in an income. And
even then, it’ll most likely
be coffee money.”
Typically, she says, it takes
much more time than that.
Remember, it took Matthew over two years
before his blog afforded him a livable income.
To make money
through blogging,
you first need a
few things…
You need to continually
publish high-quality content.
no. one
This keeps your
audience coming
back for more.
You need to be committed and
consistent with your posting
schedule.
no. two
You need an audience.
no. three
To monetize your blog,
try advertising,
partnerships, affiliate
links and selling your
own products.
And to make money with most of
these options , you need influence.
How do we
know this?
We asked Morgan!
Our awesome content intern,
who has blogged for almost
three years & runs 2 successful
blogs!
One of the biggest
blogging lessons she’s
learned is that…
"Blogging doesn’t make you
money. Influence makes you
money. A following makes you
money. Running a blog is a
means to gain that influence and
following, but at the end of the
day, the blog itself is not what is
going to make you money.”
To earn money with advertising,
you will host ads in the side bar
or even headers of your blog.
But sadly, these really don’t
generate much income.
Earning money with partnerships
is a very popular
option for those
just starting.
You can charge
anywhere from a
few hundred to
a few thousand
dollars for a
sponsored post
on your site!
You can leverage your blog audience
to sell your own product.
This can be anything from
physical goods to ebooks to
online courses.
This can be anything from
physical goods to ebooks to
online courses.
(The last being our fave, but
more on that later).
How profitable is blogging?
Bloggers can expect to make 1% of
their average page views.
If a blogger gets 50,000 views a month,
they can make around $500.
So not super profitable to fund travel.
The takeaway: use a blog to build an
audience and share your experiences,
but not to make money.
Earn money
freelancing
Freelancing is much easier when you have skills
that allow you to work remotely, like…

Social media consultants

Virtual assistants
Photographers
Freelancing is much easier when you have skills
that allow you to work remotely, like…
These skills are often
sought after & you
can easily find job
listings on fiver,
elance, and odesk.
But these sites are not the best
places to find freelance jobs & clients.
The problem with sites
like fiver & odesk is the
high competition & the
low price point.
Your skills are much
more valuable than $5!
Getting the better paying gigs requires
connections & clients.
Reach out former employers, colleagues, friends,
& college networks to see if you can find companies
hunting for your skills.
The more connections you make & the more projects
you complete will help you get more consistent work.
But it takes time,
once again, to get
there.
Once you get a job, the pay & the hours also vary.
Depending on the job & your niche, it could
mean long hours, which you may not want
to invest in while you’re traveling.
Make money with
online courses
Needless to say,
here at Teachable
we think online
courses are the best
way to share your
knowledge & make
money!
You can create courses while traveling or even
before you leave.
Online courses are one of the best
ways to make money because

Courses monetize quickly
We ran the numbers & on
average, it takes a
Teachable instructor 67 days to
go from first step to first sale.
Why?
Courses are gated content.
Your audience has to pay for your
course if they want it.
Your audience has to pay for your
course if they want it.
Only you can decide to give it away for free.
As a society, we value education.
People are more likely to pay more for
products (like online courses) that further
education & knowledge than a blog, where
the content is expected to be free.
no. two
Courses become an asset
Once you create your course, you can leave it
up & people can buy it, whenever, wherever.
Meaning as you travel, you’re able to
make money without much effort!
It’s also very easy to redo any
content you’re not thrilled
with or is outdated.
Once the full course
becomes exhausted,
you can use it as a lead
magnet to get people to
buy your other courses.
Courses are scalable
no. Three
You will get as much out of your
course as you put into it.
You can do a
one & done
course launch
OR, you can create multiple courses, host webinars, join
summits/masterclasses/podcasts to continually expand
your reach, grow your audience & your business.

Courses help people
Online courses are
one of the quickest
ways to share
knowledge with
people who want it.
“I dreamed of creating a community that
empowered people and gave them the
tools to achieve their dreams… I felt
unfulfilled and unhappy with my job and
life, so TNC rapidly became my after-work
obsession...I am crazy about helping
others find that same “something” in
their lives. Whether it be sharing all of
my lessons learned so you can grow the
biz of your dreams or reminding you why
you’re ready, even when you think you’re
not, I hope TNC unlocks something BIG
deep inside you.”
Teachable instructor &
blogger, Melyssa Griffin
shares why she creates
courses…
no. Five
Courses allow you to
build community
Not only do courses
help people, but
you can build a
thriving community
amongst your
students.
You can do this through
• Comments on lectures
• Discussions in Facebook
groups or Slack communities
• Hosting webinars
• Even via email
As your course is consumed, you
will build a following of loyal &
raving fans, and start to become a
mini-celeb in your space.
Having an invested
following will also help
you sell new products
in the future.
Why?
Your students trust you.
They loved your previous course & will want
to buy your new ones when released.
This helps you
make more
money too!
no. six
Courses are easy to make
You can make a course on any topic from
cake decorating & water color painting to
programming & business development.
All you need is a
specific transformation,
knowledge on the topic
& a platform to host your
course (like Teachable)
You can create your
course content in
any form

• Slides with voiceovers

• Videos
Plus, you can even reuse
content you already have!
The possibilities are endless.
no. SEVEN
One extra reason courses are great...
You can presell your
course before you’ve
created any content!
Use your presale
launch as a way to
gauge audience
interest, find holes
in the content &
make some money!
Although I’m not going into depth, here are
8 more ways to make money while traveling
Selling

Now some data…
Here are a few numbers from our data & around the web on
why courses are the best source of passive income.
The “average” YouTuber with 5K views per month
makes just $15/month.
81% of “bloggers” never even make $100.

An author makes only 8-15 cents on every
dollar made on their book.

Now with online
courses, our

earns $5,426 off
