E-learning via Moodle
1. e- learning, the platform,
the potential
Application for organizations
Access to information, is the key to the new era. Educational Organizations
turn to e-learning .
How can e-learning be beneficial for them?
2. WHAT IS E-LEARNING?
E-learning includes all forms of electronically supported learning ,
distribution of educational materials and structured information through the
web, or a local intranet.
The trainee can be in full control of his own progress ,while he can -if
asked-be supported by a teacher or an expert on the subject of his
interest. This form of support is essential, since without it , we would be
talking about self-education, in which other means are used, like books or
CD-ROMs.
3. Advantages of e-learning
1. E-learning content-rich, meaningful and doesn„t wear out the student. It
is extremely effective when done with advanced presentation: videos,
multimedia, sound, texts, miming, speaking or brain storming. It is
flexible, offering multiple approaches, so it can meet with the students
needs: self teaching, asynchronous collaboration, synchronous
teaching and communication with the teacher or the rest of the
students as well.
2. The student comes in touch with the subject directly; it is personalized,
whenever, wherever. Participates actively in contradiction to the
passive way a student is being taught in a “classic” classroom. He
interacts with the subject, answers to questions and can direct his own
path.
4. Advantages of e-learning
3. The student‟s activity is being automatically recorded giving the
teacher the chance to follow, to correct or offer his support in possible
problems. The analysis and management of the statistics, is easier
and “bureaucracy” is simplified, for example in printing certificates.
4. The learning material can easily be updated and distributed through
internet or intranet, without any delay, without reprinting books or any
reporting works, without packaging or delivery costs.
5. The development, distribution, maintenance and support of an e-
learning application is less than the cost of a conventional training
program.
5. Τhe limits of e-learning
E -learning:
1. Can not be a substitute for the experiential character in the
educational process,
2. can not establish a full interpersonal and social contact among the
members of the e-class,
3. can not fulfill the emotional and social goals of education.
6. THE PLATFORM PROVIDING
THE E-LEARNING-MOODLE
1. Moodle is the most known worldwide LMS (Learning Management
System)
7. THE PLATFORM PROVIDING
THE E-LEARNING-MOODLE
2. It can be installed on every computers that can run PHP and support
an SQL database type. All that is needed is an updated browser.
3. Allows customization of the form and permitted / desired functionality
4. Provides multiple methods of registration of members with many
degrees of safety, document management tools and the ability to
create roles (Instructor, assistant instructor, learner, observer, parent,
etc
5. It allows creating, editing, copying (backup), restore, reset, import of
courses and controlled registration of members in these courses.
6. Allows the system administrator to be aware of every user‟s actions
and forward them to the instructor, so that he has a full knowledge of
the students‟ activities.
8. THE PLATFORM PROVIDING
THE E-LEARNING-MOODLE
7. Helps all system members (in course level) to communicate (forum,
chats, messaging, blogs) and provides multiple modules that inform,
announce, remind of obligations e.t.c.
8. Also allows the issue of all kinds of certificates (for completion,
attendance or seminars)
9. THE PLATFORM PROVIDING
THE E-LEARNING-MOODLE
9. In each lesson the teacher:
• Can choose the form that fits his course (social, weekly, meaning wise,
Lams- scorm)
• Can import different sources of information (texts, multimedia), create
many different mandatory activities for the students grading (assingments,
quiz, dictionaries, lessons etc
• Allows to create closed (true/false, filling gaps, simple/multiple choise,
combining etc) or open type tests, to the desired levels of difficulty and
adjusted scales of success or grading. Grades can be announced to the
students and can be checked by the system administrator any time.
• Can manage students and form different groups giving assignments and
obligation to them or to the assistant instructors. Group activities
(databases and wikis) are also provided to the teachers for use.
10. MORE BENEFITS FOR THE
ORGANISATION
1. Organizations can diminish the number of copies or notes, using the platform,
even stop them at all.
2. The instructors help and inform their students about demanding examinations.
3. Teachers can assist learners lagging or learners with special pens or slopes.
4. The cooperation of teachers of the same subject in several sections tunes
easily. At the same time, the cooperation divides the workload by making it
more functional.
5. The means used in group assignments (dictionaries ,databases, wikis) allow
the collaboration between students and trainers in specific fields.
In conclusion, the development and use of an e-learning system in an educational
organization is pioneering and helps it build a solid fame.
