1. Jimmy Kimmel to the White House
No, this isn’t a call to action to get a comedian in the White House. Jimmy Kimmel has been
tapped to host the White House Correspondents Association Dinner. President Obama and the
First Lady, along with high-level government officials and journalists, will be in attendance. The
event is scheduled for April 28, 2012 and airs on C-SPAN. Kimmel will join recent hosts Jay
Leno, Wanda Sykes, and Seth Meyers.
When asked about the event, Kimmel replied, “”I look forward to being a part of the White
House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. I love dinner.”
Of course, this is an excellent choice, as comedians remind us that nothing is really as serious as
it seems and keep things light-hearted. As long as you can take a joke. When Ricky Gervais
hosted the Golden Globes for the second time, it was said that he’d never return, because of his
dark humor and how he “roasted” Hollywood’s elite for some pretty serious stuff. The best was
perhaps the opener.
“It’s going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking — or, as Charlie Sheen calls it,
breakfast,” the comedian quipped at the start of the show. “Wow, so let’s get this straight, so
what he did was, he picked up a porn star, paid her to have dinner with him, introduced her to his
ex-wife — as you do — went to a hotel, got drunk, got naked, trashed the place while she was
locked in a cupboard, and that was a Monday. What does he do New Year’s Eve?”
We all know that Hollywood types can be sensitive and politicians, well, they at least know how
to grin and bear it. And yes, I know this has nothing to do with tech, or business, or advertising,
but once in a while you like to read about something else. Right?
