PROGRAMME „ZIPPY’S
FRIENDS”
• Zippy's Friends is a
programme that promotes the
mental health and emotional
wellbeing of young children in
many different countries and
cultures.
• The fundamental concept
behind the programme is very
simple - if we can teach young
children how to cope with
difficulties, they should be
better able to handle problems
and crises in adolescence and
adult life.
13
• Zippy's Friends is a
programme for schools and
kindergartens. It usually runs
for 24 weeks, with one 45-
minute session each week.
• The programme is built around
a set of six stories. Zippy is a
stick insect and his friends are
a group of young children, and
the stories show them
confronting issues that are
familiar to young children.
• Each story is illustrated by
brightly coloured pictures.
• Each session begins with the
teacher reading part of the
story, and then the children
take part in activities such as
drawing, discussing and
playing games. The aim of
these activities is to help the
children to explore and
understand their feelings and
behaviour.

• Teddy Emo is a teddybear which comes from a distant world- The
Magical World of Emotions, which is behind seven high mountains
and seven long rivers. It always comes with two fairies to meet the
children.
• In each session it greets the children and says goodbye, always
shares interesting stories from its life and asks the children if they
have had similar experiences.
MAGICAL WORLD OF
EMOTIONS
19
When the meetings come to an
end, the fairies say goodbye but
teddy Emo stays with the children
forever so that they can always give
it a hug.
Teddy talks about situations which
brought about different feelings in it - it
calls them and says how it handles
them. Children react to Emo very
enthusiastically, tell it about their
experiences and also guess its
emotions and advise how to cope with
them.

WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS „Understanding Children’s World of
Emotions”
• The aim of the workshop is to support the activities which develop
emotional intelligence and social maturity in children.
• Parents learn how to express emotions effectively, a parent-child
communication model by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish.
• The workshop also supports parents in the process of handling
violent and often uncontrollable emotions in their children.
• Together we look for answers to questions:
• How to channel child’s emotions?
• How to react to child’s emotions?
• How to handle them but not suppress?
• How to use the language of children?
