 Life is but a test for mankind, either he be grateful (SHAKUR) or
ungrateful (KUFUR) towards Allah’s bestowals OR patient perseverance
(SWOBR) and unswerving reliance (TAWAKKUL) when afflicted with
deprivation of bestowals for some people.
 ‘Economics’ as in applied system basically should be concerned with
seeking the most efficient and equitable system of production, resource
allocation, exchange, and distribution of goods and services in a society.
 Yet today the most dominant system has become driven by the
exploitative and unjust whose opulence are being regarded as progress
while others are mostly the exploited who are left in extreme poverty.

 Viewed from this economic perspective, the whole Muslim world is in fact
undergoing a great trial and tribulation economically.
 Although Islam has its own teachings and system regarding economics,
most Muslim countries do no follow it but had succumbed to the
dominant secular economic system which follows Western imperialism.
 When the global monetary paper currency system shifted from a purely
‘gold-backed system’ to ‘oil-backed US Dollar’ – Muslim countries were
targeted for domination and exploitation for its wealth and continued to
be destabilized through military occupation, various proxy wars, ruled by
puppet dictators or regime and instigation towards anarchy.
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger
and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to
the patiently persevering (SWOBIREEN)”
(Qur’an: Baqorah:2: 155)

 The dominance of this exploitative economy, with their ‘Riba (Usury)’
banking systems are now so pervasive that every common man would
be afflicted by its ‘madness’ which Allah SWT describes as Satan's touch.

“THOSE who gorge themselves on usury behave but as he might
behave whom Satan has confounded with his touch; for they say,
"Buying and selling is but a kind of usury" - the while Allah has made
buying and selling lawful and usury unlawful.”
(Qur’an: Baqorah: 2: 275)
 The dominance of this exploitative economy, with their ‘Riba (Usury)’

 This attitude which is further compounded with mankind’s tendencies
desiring for the allurement of this world.
“ALLURING unto man is the enjoyment of worldly desires
through women, and children, and heaped-up treasures
of gold and silver, and horses of high mark, and cattle,
and lands. All this may be enjoyed in the life of this world
- but the most beauteous of all goals is with Allah.”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 14)

 Inevitably this breed the disease in many Muslims prophesized and
identified as AL-WAHNU – save those whose heart Allah SWT guide,
purify and preserve.
 To be saved, Muslims must adhere to those basic principles and realize
the profound concepts inherent in our basic Fardhu ’Ain knowledge viz.
Nafaqah, (Infaq), Zakah, Swodaqah, Irth, Waqf, Tijarah, etc.
 As well as deepen our understanding, appreciation, practice and
spiritual exercise (RIYAADHA-RUHIYYAH) – a prerequisite to eradicate
the diseases afflicting our hearts.

Thus the usual English translation for SWODAQAH as “charity” is not
accurate as it also include all forms of goodness whether it be obligatory or
non-obligatory; and extensively covers all forms of kindness not merely of
material help but that even sharing a ‘smile to others’ can be SWODAQAH.

“It is not for thee [O Muhammad] to make people follow the
right path, since it is Allah [alone] who guides whom He wills.
And whatever good you may spend on others is for your own
good, provided that you spend only out of a longing for
Allah's countenance: for, whatever good you may spend will
be repaid unto you in full, and you shall not be wronged.”

“[And give] unto [such of] the needy who, being wholly
wrapped up in Allah's cause, are unable to go about the earth
[in search of livelihood]. He who is unaware [of their
condition] might think that they are wealthy, because they
abstain [from begging]; [but] thou canst recognize them by
their special mark: they do not beg of men with importunity.
And whatever good you may spend [on them], verily, Allah
knows it all.”

“The offerings given for the sake of Allah are [meant] only for
the poor (FAAQIR) and the needy (MASAAKIN), and those who
are in charge thereof (‘AAMILEEN), and those whose hearts
are to be won over (MU-ALLAF), and for the freeing of human
beings from bondage (RIQOB), and [for] those who are over
burdened with debts (GHORIMEEN), and [for every struggle] in
Allah's cause (FEE-SABILILLAH), and [for] the wayfarer (IBNUS-
SABEEL): [this is] an ordinance from Allah - and Allah is all-
knowing, wise.”

[5] From the word meaning “neck” – it refers to the ransoming or freeing
Muslims from slavery.
This shows that every Muslim must be freed from all forms of slavery
or from being under oppression. Their freedom must be accorded for them
(if need be) using the zakat funds.
Although chattel slavery no longer exist, yet Islamic scholars are known
to apply ‘Qiyas’ (juristic analogy) for what may constitute modern ‘slavery’.

[6] These are “those who are indebted”.
We differentiate “debt” from “loan”. Loan is merely one who
can afford to repay what he owes, except that it be deferred. He is
not what we mean by “one who is indebted”.
“Those indebted” are akin to “Faaqir & Miskeen” but in a
temporary sense, because of unforeseen expenditure incurred due
to misfortune, sickness, accident, calamities etc.

during war as fighters; and In peace time, it include the “Mujahid
of Da’wah” i.e. those striving to “raise the kalimah of Allah, to be
highest” in the field of spreading the teachings of Islam through
Da’wah.

A Muslim traveller in need, has rights to zakat funds, wherever or
whenever he encounters difficulty while travelling in Muslim lands. In
fact, there were times in history that the Islamic state provided 3 days
hospitality in caravanserais (Musafir-kana) managed by Islamic
treasury (Bayt-ul-Maal) , for every Muslim travellers.

not consume it will nevertheless be affected by it.”

“THOSE who gorge themselves on usury behave but as he
might behave whom Satan has confounded with his touch; for
they say, "Buying and selling is but a kind of usury" - the while
Allah has made buying and selling lawful and usury unlawful.
Hence, whoever becomes aware of his Sustainer's admonition,
and thereupon desists [from usury], may keep his past gains,
and it will be for Allah to judge him; but as for those who
return to it -they are destined for the fire, therein to abide!”
(Qur’an: Baqorah: 2: 275)

therein to abide: a ready welcome from Allah. And that
which is with Allah is best for the truly virtuous. ”

IDENTIFYING THE DANGERS AFFECTING THIS UMMAHIDENTIFYING THE DANGERS AFFECTING THIS UMMAH All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2016))  Life is but a test for mankind, either he be grateful (SHAKUR) or ungrateful (KUFUR) towards Allah’s bestowals OR patient perseverance (SWOBR) and unswerving reliance (TAWAKKUL) when afflicted with deprivation of bestowals for some people.  ‘Economics’ as in applied system basically should be concerned with seeking the most efficient and equitable system of production, resource allocation, exchange, and distribution of goods and services in a society.  Yet today the most dominant system has become driven by the exploitative and unjust whose opulence are being regarded as progress while others are mostly the exploited who are left in extreme poverty.
