 “SOCIETY ” is defined by Oxford Dictionary as:
“The aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered
community.”
 Living in a society of diverse ethnicity, faith and ideology etc. we are
bound to be exposed to various influences other than our own.
 “CULTURE” is defined as the shared patterns of behaviours and
interactions, cognitive constructs and understanding that are learned
by socialization.
 Thus, culture can be seen as the growth of a group identity fostered by
social patterns unique to the group.

 The word “CULTURE" derives from a French term, which in turn
derives from the Latin “COLERE," which means” to tend to the earth
and grow, or cultivation and nurture. “
 “It shares its etymology with a number of other words related to
actively fostering growth," – (Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at
Barnet and Southgate College in London).
 "Culture is the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes
the members of one category of people from another." (Hofstede, G.
(1984). National cultures and corporate cultures.).

 "Most social scientists today view culture as consisting primarily of the
symbolic, ideational, and intangible aspects of human societies. The
essence of a culture is not its artefacts, tools, or other tangible cultural
elements but how the members of the group interpret, use, and
perceive them. It is the values, symbols, interpretations, and
perspectives that distinguish one people from another in modernized
societies; it is not material objects and other tangible aspects of human
societies. People within a culture usually interpret the meaning of
symbols, artefacts, and behaviours in the same or in similar ways.”

 Muslims must not be complacent and naïve, assuming that in the country
of diverse community, there are no challenges directed towards the
masses seeking to influence our thoughts, value or even our faith.
 What is worrying is that many Muslims, devoid of the spirit of Da’wah,
have become easy targets, subjected for various agenda or propaganda.
 It is ironic, nay tragic, that instead of we doing the ‘calling’, others have
steadily and are investing much in trying to proselytize or indoctrinate
Muslims to their respective faiths, or ideologies or life-styles, etc. This our
shortcomings need to be addressed.
MAY ALLAH GRANT US WITH
WISDOM AND ELOQUENCE
WALLAAHU-A’-LAM

“He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead
out of the living and brings to life the earth after its
lifelessness. And thus will you be brought out.
And of His signs is that He created you from dust; then,
suddenly you were human beings dispersing [throughout
the earth].”
(Qur’an: Rum: 30: 19-20)

“AND [know that] all mankind (AN-NAAS ) were once but
one single community (UMMATAN WAA-HIDATAN ),
and only later did they begin to hold divergent views. And had
it not been for a decree - that had already gone forth from thy
Sustainer, all their differences would indeed have been settled
[from the outset].”
(Qur’an: Yunus: 10: 19)

“This (UMMA-TUKUM ) community of yours is one
community (UMMATAN WA-HIDAH) , and I am
your Lord; so hold Me alone in fear (FAT-
TAQUUN). But people later cut up their religion into
bits, each group rejoicing in what they have. So leave
them immersed in their heedlessness till an appointed
time.”
(Qur’an: Mu’minun: 23: 52-54)

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and
female and made you (SHU-’UU-BA) peoples and
(QOBAA-IL) tribes that you may (TA-’AA-RAFU) know
one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of
Allah is the most righteous (AT-QAA-KUM) of you. Indeed,
Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.
(Qur’an: Hujurat: 49: 13)

“FASAD - Corruption has appeared throughout the land and
sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He
may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have
done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].”
(Qur’an: Rum: 30: 41)

“To each of you We prescribed (SHIR-’ATAN ) a law
and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made
you one (UMMATAN ) -nation [united in religion], but
[He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so
(FASTABIQ-AL-KHAYRAT ) race to [all that is]
good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will
[then] inform you concerning that over which you used
to differ.”
(Qur’an: Maa-idah: 5: 48)

““For each [religious following] is a direction towardFor each [religious following] is a direction toward
which it faces. (which it faces. (FAS-TA-BI-KUL-KHAY-FAS-TA-BI-KUL-KHAY-
RAATRAAT)) So race (vie, compete) to [all that is] good.So race (vie, compete) to [all that is] good.
Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth [forWherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth [for
judgement] all together. Indeed, Allah is over alljudgement] all together. Indeed, Allah is over all

“(UD-’UU) Invite (all mankind) to the way of your Lord with
(HIKMAH) wisdom and (MAU-IDZATUL-HASANAH)
good instruction, and (JAA-DIL-HUM) argue with them
(HIYA AHSAN) in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is
most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is
most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.”
(Qur’an: An-Nahlu: 16: 125)

“And let there be [arising] from you a nation (UMMAH)
inviting to [all that is] good, (AMRU-BIL-MA’RUF)
enjoining what is right and (NAHYU-ANIL-MUNKAR)
forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 104)

““((WA-’IBAA-DUR-RAH-MAA-N)) And the servants of the
Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when
the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace,““

““And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord
(SUJ-JADAN) prostrating and (QIYAA-MA) standing
[in prayer],““

And those who say, "Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell.
Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering; Indeed, it is evil as a
settlement and residence."

““And [they are] those who, when they spend (ANFAQU) , do so not
(LAM -YUS-RIFU )excessively or (LAM -YAQ-TURU )sparingly
but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate““

““And those who (LAA-YAD-’UU ) do not invoke with Allah another
deity or (YAQ-TULU ) kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be
killed], (IL-LA-BIL-HAQ) except by right, and (LAA -YAZ-NUN )
do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do
that will meet a penalty.““

““ Multiplied for him is the (‘AZAA-BA ) punishment on the Day
of Resurrection, and he will abide therein (MU-HEE-NA )
humiliated - Except for (MAN - TAA-BA ) those who repent,
(AA-MA-NA ) believe and (‘A-MA-LAS-SWO-LI-HAAT )
do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds
with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.““

““And (MAN-TAA-BA ) he who repents and (‘A-MILAS-
SWO-LI-HAAT )does righteousness does indeed turn to
Allah with [accepted] repentance.““

““And [they are] those (LAA-YASH-HADUU-NA- ZUUR ) who
do not testify to falsehood, and (MAR-RU-BIL-LAGH-WI )
when they pass near ill speech, (MAR-RU-KI-RAA-MA ) they
pass by with dignity.““

““And those who, (IDZAA-DZUK-KIRU ) when reminded of the
verses of their Lord, do not fall upon them deaf and blind.““

““And those who say, “(ROB-BANAA-HAB-LANAA ) Our
Lord, grant us (MIN-AZ-WAA-JI-NAA-WA-DZUR-RIY
-YAA-TINA ) from among our wives and offspring (QUR-
RO-TA - A’-YUNIN ) comfort to our eyes and (WAJ-’AL-
NAA ) make us (LIL-MUT-TOQEE-NA – IMAA-MA )
an example for the righteous."

BETTER TO BE A CUB

AN-NASEEHAH
Sincere Advice
” … do they seek honour, power and glory with them
(the disbelievers rather than the believers)? Verily, then
to Allah belongs all honour, power and glory.”
– (Qur’an: An-Nisa: 4: 139)
CERTAINLY THE BEST OF
ADVICE IS INDEED FROM
ALLAH AZZAA-WAJAL

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH,
MOST COMPASSIONATE,
MOST MERCIFUL.
“But those who were certain that they would meet Allah said,
"How many a small company has overcome a large company by
permission of Allah. And Allah is with the patiently persevering.“
(Qur’an: Baqarah:2: 249)
AN-NASEEHAH
The Sincere Advice
ALLAH IS GREATER
THAN ALL

““Do not be deceived by theDo not be deceived by the TAQAL-LUBUTAQAL-LUBU (seeming inhibited,(seeming inhibited,
free disposal and affluence) of the disbelievers throughoutfree disposal and affluence) of the disbelievers throughout
the land. (It is but) a small enjoyment; then their [final]the land. (It is but) a small enjoyment; then their [final]
refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.”refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.”
((Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 197Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 197))

“And never (WA LAN TAR-DWA ) will the Jews
or the Christians approve of you until you follow their
religion (TAT-TABI-’A-MIL-LA-TAHUM).
Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only]
guidance." If you were to follow their desires after
what has come to you of knowledge, you would have
against Allah no protector or helper.”
(Qur’an: Baqarah: 2: 120)

“O you who have attained to faith! If you pay heed to some
of those to whom revelation was vouchsafed aforetime *,
they might cause you to renounce the truth after you have
come to believe [in it].”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 100)
* THE People of the Book – Jews and Christians

“Now if thou pay heed (follow) unto the majority of those
[who live] on earth, they will but lead thee astray from
the path of Allah: they follow but [other people's]
conjectures, and they themselves do nothing but guess .
Verily, thy Sustainer knows best as to who strays from
His path, and best knows He as to who are the right-
guided.”
(Qur’an: An-’am: 6: 116-117)

"And"And do not follow (pursue) anything of which thou hast nodo not follow (pursue) anything of which thou hast no
knowledgeknowledge: verily (thy) hearing and sight and heart - all of: verily (thy) hearing and sight and heart - all of

“ O you who have believed, (IS-TAJEE-BUU ) respond
to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that
which gives you life (LI-MAA-YUH-YEE-KUM ).
And know that Allah intervenes between a man and his
heart and that to Him you will be gathered.
(WAT-TAQUU-FIT-NATAN ) And fear a trial which
will not strike those who have wronged among you
exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty.”
(Qur’an: Anfaal: 8: 24-25)

“O YOU who have attained to faith! Remember Allah with
(DZIK-RAN-KA-TSI-RAA ) unceasing remembrance, and
extol His limitless glory from morn to evening.
He (Allah) it is who bestows His blessings upon you, with His
angels [echoing Him], so that He might take you out of the
depths of darkness into the light. And, indeed, a dispenser of
grace is He unto the believers.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 41-43)

“Allah is the (WALIY ) Protector of those who have
faith (Believers) : from the depths of darkness He will
lead them forth into light.
Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones:
from light they will lead them forth into the depths of
darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell
therein (For ever).”
(Qur’an: Baqaah: 2: 257)

““ O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the
Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you
life. And know that Allah intervenes between a man and
his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.
And fear you of (FITNAH) a trial which will not strike
those who have wronged among you exclusively, and
know that Allah is (SHA-DEE-DUL-’IQOB) severe
in penalty.““

“(WADZ-KURUU) And remember when you were few
and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct
you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory,
and provided you with good things - that you might be
grateful (TASH-KURUN).”
(Qur’an: al-Anfaal: 8:26al-Anfaal: 8:26)

“O you who have believed, (LAA-TA-KHUU-NUU )
do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your
trusts (AMAA-NAA-TUKUM ) while you know [the
consequence]. And know that your properties and your
children are but a trial (FITNAH ) and that Allah has
with Him a great reward.““

“And (TA-’AA-WANU) cooperate in (AL-BIRR) righteousness
and piety (AL-TAQWA), but do not cooperate in sin (ITH-MI)
and aggression (‘UD-WAAN). And (be conscious of and) fear
Allah (TAQWA); indeed, Allah is (SHADEE-DUL-’IQOB)
severe in penalty .”
(Qur’an: Maa-idah: 5: 2)

“(WASW-BIR) And keep yourself patient [by being]
with those who (YAD-’UU-NA – ROB-BAHUM) call
upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking
His countenance. And let not your eyes pass beyond them,
desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey
one whose heart We have made heedless of Our
remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair
is ever [in] neglect.”
(Qur’an: Kahfi: 18: 28)

““O you who believe!O you who believe! Take notTake not for friends and protectorsfor friends and protectors those who takethose who take
your religion for a mockery or sportyour religion for a mockery or sport,― whether among those who received,― whether among those who received
the Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but (bethe Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but (be
conscious and) fear you Allah, if you have Faith (indeed).”conscious and) fear you Allah, if you have Faith (indeed).”

“”Man follows his friend's religion, you
should be careful who you take for friends.“
(Hadith reported by Tirmidzi and Abu Dawud)

“The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in
comparison with a bad one, is like that of the musk seller
and the blacksmith's bellows (or furnace); from the first
you would either get to buy musk or enjoy its good smell
while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your
house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof.“

"You see the believers as regards their being merciful among
themselves and showing love among themselves and being
kind, resembling one body, so that, if any part of the body is
not well then the whole body shares the sleeplessness
(insomnia) and fever with it.“
