My name is Helen Callaghan. I am a proud Aboriginal woman of the Bidjara people (Mum's Mob). I was born in Townsville (Iles/Thomas/Pattel/Geary/Brooks Mobs) although I have family spread from Palm Island (Barnes & Geary mobs) through to Winton (Iles Mob) and Cherbourg (Fraser/Bonds/Holts) but my sacred homelands are the Carnavon Range in Queensland. I have grown up in the familiar setting of social disadvantage and inequities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I have intimate knowledge and experience of the devastating gap in health outcomes for my people.
