So, here's what I believe: Schools by and large have lost their focus on what Seymour Sarason calls "productive learning," that is "learning that endgenders wanting to learn more." All too often, the "learning" that our students do in school does not lead to the passion and engagment each one of us knows is required for deep, sticky learning to happen.
